Speculating on the contents of The High Republic Adventures Annual 2025

(because i love the high republic, procrastination, and completely inconsequential speculation)

The High Republic Adventures annual for phase 3 was recently announced as part of upcoming Crash Zone TPB out in April 2025.

THRA had an annual issue in phase 1 (2021) and none for phase 2. THRA annual 2021 was an anthology of 5 stories by the 5 original story architects of the high republic, each by a different penciller, with storylines largely unconnected to The High Republic Adventures 2021 comic:

Charles Soule: Set For Life, a story about Bell and Loden;

Claudia Gray: No Stone Unturned, a story about the Vessel crew;

Justina Ireland: First Mission, a Vernestra prequel;

Daniel José Older: Crash and the Crew Do What They Do, a Crash story setting up Midnight Horizon and other stories involving Crash's team;

Cavan Scott: The Haul, a Lourna story.

that's 1 story for every person writing high republic media at the time, each featuring what could be considered their pet character(s), plus some crossovers (Porter in Cavan's story, Stellan in Justina's, etc.). two stories tell the peace-time backstory of phase 1 characters, the others take place during the events of phase 1.

in 2023 we got Tales of Light and Life, an YA short story anthology by the high republic authors at the time, bridging all 3 phases and giving us the first phase 3 stories. they were:

i assume there will be either 5 or 6 stories (leaning 5, because they'd have to make them pretty short to squeeze 6 into one issue). the Soules are obviously writing together. the issue is part of phase 3, and i expect all the stories to be set during it or potentially give backstory to characters introduced in phase 3.

the inclusion of the issue in Crash Zone implies a(t least one) Crash-focused story. DJO is the author of the collection's other two Crash issues but Alyssa Wong has written Rogue Element about Crash, a character based on them, and co-written another high republic work with DJO (Escape from Valo). maybe they're cooperating on this one too?

Rosemary Soule cooperated with her dad on Jedi Brave in Every Way, a children's book featuring Burry, Yoda, and the younglings Bree, Jon and Toko. these three have shown up in phase 3 comics as cameos (Shadows of Starlight issues 1 and 3, and Echoes of Fear issue 1). i think there's quite a chance the Soules' story brings them back in bigger roles, and i wouldn't be surprised to see Bell, Ember and Burry together in a low-stakes story.

i'm sorry if i have a limited mental image of Justina Ireland but i do feel fairly confident that her story is about Vernestra again... it's her brand after all, and she clearly enjoys writing Vern across the years. dark horse prediction: something about Avon, maybe connecting more to the Sana Starros comic.

Zoraida Córdova has written one phase 3 story (Beware the Nameless), and her high republic writing is connected by the Greylark family. i predict more Zenny Greylark, quite possibly with Churo the Hutt, set after BtN. i wouldn't be surprised to see a more explicit connection to Axel Greylark and the phase 2 storyline.

Zoraida, Alyssa, and Daniel have also all written the phase 3 Valo youngling gang including Tep Tep, Kildo, and their single teen dad Ram. are they going to do anything with them in this collection? i don't really expect it but it'd be cool. those kiddos have great designs.

i have no idea what to expect from Cavan, man. definitely a connection to the adult comics. quite possibly more about Keeve, whose story in phase 3 has covered the smallest amount of time of the main characters - then again, she is going to be in both Dispatches from the Occlusion Zone and Fear of the Jedi. maybe we're getting more Lourna instead, perhaps connecting to Tempest Breaker.

i went insane about ur story so i made an oc about it!!! mostly cuz i wanna fight people in it (Ram when i catch you Ram)

this is Hikari "Angel" Kang, 13 and a "reject" in their own right from her middle school. with having "behavior issues" which is just undiagnosed/unaccommodated autism and ocd. Angel isn't afraid to fight people who are wrongly antagonistic and actively has, multiple times, which has lead to them changing schools once. Most fights stem from them being bullied for having hearing aids (she has partial hearing loss) and her odd behavior; they also fight when seeing others being mistreated. in general tho, they're usually quiet as she's semiverbal, in some cases being thought to be unable to speak completely, and shy, if not a bit hyperactive when not focused on those around them. initially it wouldn't seem like they could ever be aggressive, which unfortunately leads to some thinking she's an easy target.

-Angel is multilingual, from her father being Korean-American and their mother being Afro-Japanese

-she knows different forms of sign language

-they're undiagnosed because their parents think their behaviors are mostly normal (both of them are also undiagnosed neurodivergent)

1: if there was a starburst comic/cartoon/manga, how would you write it? Do two volumes for both kids separately showing their origins & before they meet and then bring them together in like the third volume/chapter?

2: since you mention they like to wrestle, what’s their favorite wrestling move; also to perform on goons?

3: what’s the power level gap between mar’i & Jake? Since both are probably already in the puberty stage, I can see Jake being a little bit more powerful due to the fact boys are stronger than girls with our bone density & stuff. (Unless tamaranians are build different lol)

4: even though they don’t kill due to being heroes, if they were in mortal kombat, what fatalities would you give to the boys? I can see Chris summoning the Nightwing entity and have the dragon eat the upper half of the opponent similar to liu kangs dragon fatality.

5: silly question :p you mention earlier that Chris gets powerful when the moon is out, does he get powerful when he looks at someone’s bare butt? Get it full moon XD I can see Jake or Conner making that type of joke & making Chris laugh.

I think that’s an ideal approach enough though if we take into account that first issues/volumes of any comic are meant to entice the reader into the actual team themselves, I’d do their respective origins on one or two pages each of that volume, with narration from Chris and Jake themselves to help give the reader their points of view before then cutting to the present day for their first adventure shown in the pages.

2. Chris Kent by his the nature of powers is an absolute powerhouse and despite having some acrobatic moments, has a fighting style that reflects that. Hence his wrestling finisher of choice and one of his go to finishers against crooks and goons would be the Jackhammer Slam, a suplex which he carries his opponent on one arm up high before then slamming them on the ground back first. Best demonstrated by real life pro wrestler, Bill Goldberg

Now as for Jake, being more nimble and flexible, his preferred wrestling finisher of choice would be the Diamond Cutter aka the RKO. Here, he’d have a well placed headlock with his hands on the back of his opponent’s head, then slide forward onto his back, slamming the opponent face first onto the ground. Part of its charm for Jake is that he can strike with that move out of nowhere and anywhere, his stealthiness being utilized to great potential. Pioneered by wrestler Diamond Dallas Page and refined by Randy Keith Orton

When the play wrestle and spar in some of their free time, the Duo would also perform these moves albeit dialing back the intensity to sure they don’t hurt each other for real

3.I’d say Mar’i by a very thin margin has a little bit more power than her baby brother only though since she’s about to enter puberty (or as the Tamaraneans dub it ‘Gradual Transition into the Transformation’) while Jake has about two to three years to go before he can do so as well. That being said, other than that small margin, the Grayson siblings are somewhat even in terms of combat prowess and ability

4. Oh yes, Chris would do that for a MK fatality while for Jake, his would be charging up an esrcima with a starbolt, ramming the taster tip of it onto his opponent’s chest, unleashing it’s full blast, frying the guy but truly finishing them off with another supercharged escrima starbolt on the back to compliment the front one, finally causing the unfortunate opponent to explode in a blue blast of electricity and fire, leaving behind only a lower body with its top charred to a crisp

5. As hilarious it sounds, naturally Chris won’t be gaining a charge up of his powers via someone’s rear end anytime soon lol. And yes, his brothers and best friend would tease him about it but he’d take it in good fun. He’d probably quip that if those ‘full moons’ did count, they’re be a lot more werewolves during the nighttime hours of the city since that’s what Mom Lois told him about when he’s curious about what are ‘Adult Clubs’ all about.

Mara and Garam together, they drink, a lot. It always starts with beers, be it at the bar or at one of their places, with a chat and food, the beers lead to tequila and the tequila lead to watching dumb movies and fucking against a wall. It's fun. She likes those nights with him - however, they don't happen on a daily basis. Being creatures of solitude, they both need their own space, these nights of just being by themselves like a retreat, or at least, that's how it used to be. More and more, Mara finds herself knocking on his door without sending a text first. It's correlated to how her life has been spiraling into chaos these days, she has started to talk to him, to open up, slowly but surely. Garam... it's different, he listens, he listens a lot. Sometimes he doesn't speak yet it's the perfect form of comfort that Mara seeks in him, again, he listens to her like nobody else does. He worries too, by lecturing her and telling her she's going to be arrested yet all she hears is concern and it reassures her not to be completely alone anymore in her mistakes. All the space she starts occupying, it could have been space for him to talk to, but he does not. Perhaps, once or twice, yet it was brief, about the life he lived before about how it's not his life anymore. Mara is aware by whom's side Garam has been working for so many years and yet... he never quite described the hole it left in his life, truly, she has no idea. The door is wide open and the scene is so not expected. Drunk sure he is, but he usually waits for her to start the festivities. His first words are spoken, like a true drunk man - he attacks, which causes a slight frown above her eyes and a sarcastic scoff. Classic Garam though.

"Yeah yeah sorry papi, you don't get to kick me out or you're gonna die alone." Mara speaks walking inside, pushing him with her shoulder, and throwing her leather jacket to the side as it hits a chair and lands on it. "I bought some burgers from accross the street. Oh, and you look like shit." She says, flashing the paper bag that she sets down the first wooden surface she can find. Turning around, she's staring at him. No matter how she wants to keep on getting sassy like she always does, she doesn't like that sight og him in that state so much. Him telling her she should text first... what is it, was is drinking himself to death when she isn't around or something? Mara believes it's either harder or easier to have a conversation with him now. Harder as talking to a drunk can be a complicated task - but perhaps easier as in, maybe, now with all his walls down he would open up to her. Stepping to stand in front of him, one of her hand scoops his jawline, taking a long look at him, pensive. "Say you're freshly coming back from the club. Say you don't always drink alone like that." It's 8pm. She knows the answer already, Garam doesn't party. "Come on, talk to me."

I don't know what I was expecting when I started this one. Certainly not what I got. I wasn't expecting to laugh with such a title. The end is also anticlimatic. No spoiler here but I would have prefered it to end is a not so happy ending. No rewatch value whatsoever for that one.

List of series about revenge, justice, revenge-justice and solving mysteries (Warning: Spoilers)

If you're as vindictive as I am but still like a happy ending, these maybe for you. (Don't worry, I've never actively tried to ruin someone's life irl...yet)

Also, if you're like me, once you get hooked on one genre or type of series/movie, you'll probably want to watch more similar items.

So, whether you want to kick back with a relaxing series about revenge/murder or you want to take notes for your own revenge, here's a list of series about revenge/solving mysteries that I've watched recently:

1. Taxi Driver (2021-) starring Lee Je-hoon, Kim Eui-sung, Pyo Ye-jin, Jang Hyuk-jin, Bae Yoo-ram

I mean, it's starring Lee Je-hoon. Need I say more? Ok fine. He's an ex-militant that had a loved one murdered. He groups together with like-minded people that seek revenge but for other people who are experiencing similar pain as they are. It's thrilling but also ridiculous, funny, goofy, and very satisfying. i.e. The good justice-seekers always win. I mean, what they're doing to get justice puts them in a gray area at best. But still better than the soulless that they go after.

2. Bulgasal: Immortal souls starring Lee Jin-wook, Kwon Nara, Lee Joon, Gong Seung-yeon, Jung Jin-young, Park Myung-shin, and Kim Woo-seok

3. The Untamed starring Xiao Zhan, Wang Yibo

Based on the Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation, Wei Wuxian's spirit is summoned 16 years after his death to seek revenge for the summoner. On his quest, he unravels the common enemy that was responsible for his own demise. The theme starts with revenge but it's so much more than that. If you love slow-burn love and chemistry bursting through the screen without uttering a single word, this is for you.

4. Birth of a beauty starring Han Ye-seul, Joo Sang-wook, Jung Gyu-woon, Wang Ji-hye and Ha Jae-Sook

Sa Geum-ra, played by Ha Jae-Sook, is kindhearted and overweight (this is a plot point) housewife that's married to Jung Gyu-woon's character, Kang Joon. The latter is cheating on the former with Wang Ji-Hye's character. Long story short, she loses weight to win back her husband's affections but ends up seeking revenge because... find out for yourself. It's funny, ridiculous and goofy and the plot kept me at the edge of my seat. The series does drag a little during the last three or so episodes. The plot is mainly based on revenge, infidelity, and fat-shaming. As someone who grew up being dubbed "fat," "pig" etc. even when I wasn't and later when I eventually was, Sa Geum-ra's pain of feeling unlovable simply because of her size was something I related to greatly. Which leads me to my next recommendation:

5. Switched starring Kaya Kiyohara and Megumi Seki

Kaya Kiyohara is Ayume whose body gets switched with that of Megumi Seki's character. The latter is the "invisible" archetype while the former is the popular, pretty girl. This series explores an interesting perspective (mindset) that challenges that of Birth of a Beauty.

6. Cafe Minamdang

I loved the goofy satire elements of this series. And the ending was satifisfying but admittedly, sometimes the episodes had a tendency to drag the plot on and I had moments when my attention was elsewhere. But I still recommend it.

7. Girl from Nowhere starring Chicha "Kitty" Amatayakul as Nanno

Nanno seems to be an entity of some sort (think Eris, Goddess of Chaos) that infiltrates school after school after school while seeking "social justice." Nanno doesn't pick sides but it has a righteous tone "holding up the mirror to hypocrites." The overall theme isn't evident until about 3 episodes later. Kitty gives a truly enchanting performance as Nanno.

8. The Glory starring Song Hye-Kyo, Lim Ji-yeon

How could I possibly forget the Glory? But I did while writing this list. However, it is one of the best series I've watched. I've liked Lim Ji-Yeon since her movie Obsessed starring opposite Song Seung-Hyeon. She was so natural and convincing that as much as I liked Lim Ji-Yeon, I hated her character so much. Unpopular opinion: While I really like the actor Lee Do-hyun as well as his character, I feel like I could've done without the latter in the movie. His character was really sweet towards Song Hye-Kyo's Dong-eun and very supportive. Bf material, he accepted her with all her flaws. That's all a girl can ask for. However, I feel like his character had nothing to do with the main story and that I would have been fine if he weren't in it.

9. Celebrity

The revenge plotline comes much later. But each episode was so enticing and left me at the edge of my seat. However, they dragged the plotline in the later episodes and the ending was a bit disappointing. So this is on my recommendation list but with a grain of salt.

10. Flower of Evil

The last one is more or less about revenge. But it is about solving a mystery and clearing up one's name. This one made me hella confused and got me hooked. I really like the characters' chemistry. The ending could've been better but great series overall albeit very bittersweet.

Hey, it's me, Aniket!!

You know, while I am excited about Star Trek: Prodigy coming to Netflix on December 25th, I have decided we will take a Break Discussing about ST: Prodigy for a while and let's talk about some new other topic.

Or else, People will think, this blog is more focused about Star Trek: Prodigy!!

So let's talk about an animated series which, some of you don't know, this even exists!! Because, you haven't heard of this series yet or unknown about!!

Look, I am from India, the mostly populated country and developing country in the whole world!! And when we talk about Animation in India, there might be a chance, you won't know anything about Indian Animation. Because, for years, India's Entertainment Industry, didn't even rely upon Animation. Especially, Bollywood Industry. Because, Bollywood Industry haven't been relying upon Animation, a Vast Medium of all things Live-Action Counterpart cannot achieve. Granted, there are VFX existed on Live-Action things, but not Animation!! Because, People are Unaware of that "Animation is not for Kids Only, it's for Everyone."

As an Animation Fan, you know, discovering new things is a habit.

I always think, when will India create their own Super-Creative Animated Series?? If Australia can create Bluey, then why not India??

But then, something happened in Early 2021, that is Unbelievable!!

Before I touched upon ST: Prodigy, in 2021, there was an Indian Animated Series, which I think, it could be the next big thing for Animation!! And it has the Potential to be India's "Avatar: The Last Airbender"!!

Yup, I am talking about "The Legend of Hanuman"!! It's an Original series from the Indian Version of Disney+, called as Disney+ Hotstar, labeling as Hotstar Specials!!

No, it's not from Disney or Pixar or Marvel, in fact, it has nothing to do with Disney, whatsoever, except from giving a boost to this series' massive popularity in India!! It is made by Indian Animation and Comics creation Studio, Graphic India!!

It is based upon and Centred around Lord Hanuman, the important character from Saint Valmiki's Ramayana, which is an Indian Hindu Mythological Epic.

For those, who don't know about Ramayana, Google Search about and Research Ramayana!! You will get the Idea!!

This series is about Hanuman's Journey from being an ordinary Vanara (Humanoid Monkey) to becoming a Legend.

This series has the same plot as Ramayana, but centring around Hanuman, he is the Main Character for the show only.

Yeah, yeah, I know, there are many series and Movies made upon Lord Hanuman and Lord Ram!! But for me, after Ramayana: the Legend Of Prince Ram by Indian Animation veteran Ram Mohan and Japanese Animator Yugo Sako released in 1992, this series has etched a special Place in my Heart and Mind, to be honest with you!!

First of all, the elements in Animation, it's not like movie quality like Star Trek: Prodigy, as it's aspect ratio is 16:9 HDTV Format, but the quality is still up to the mark, especially when you rewatch this series entirely or freshly watch it. You will get some good quality Animation in it.

And the Visuals and VFX, all are outstanding!! Every aspect you see is detailed!!

Second, is the Audio mixing, Voice Dubbing and Music. Most of the People voice casting in this series in The Original Hindi Version are the people who excelled in Hindi Dub, for example Sanket Mhatre as Lord Ram, Damandeep Singh Baggan or Da Man as Lord Hanuman etc.

Third, the Direction. Sharad Devarajan, Navin John and Jeevan J. Kang, are just delivering best directing in one of the Animated Series based upon Hindu Mythology Epic. Even Sharad Devarajan said, that he was inspired from Japanese Animator Hayao Miyazaki's "Princess Mononoke" to make this series.

And finally, this series has so much story to tell about Lord Hanuman and his journey from being an ordinary Vanara to Serving Lord Ram and his brother Lakshman to save Lord Ram's Wife, Princess Sita to becoming an Icon for everyone, a legend.

It has Two seasons both released in 2021 with 13 episodes each and The Third season is in production and releasing on January 2024.

As I said, before it is available on Disney+ Hotstar in India, and for the US Viewers, they can watch it on Hulu (Merging with Disney+ later in 2024) in the Hotstar Hub. This series has been dubbed in 7 different Languages like Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Bengali, Malayalam, and Marathi and Subtitled in English.

And talking about 9.2/10 on IMDb, it's the first Indian Animated series to cross 9/10 Rating on IMDb!! For other than India, Only I know as of yet, A:TLA and Bluey got this rating above 9 out of 10

It has a record 9.2/10 Rating on IMDb and in fact, in 2021, according to Ormax Media, it has become the first Indian Animated Series to cross 8.5 million Viewers in the first 10 days after Season 2 of it was premiered!! A Whopping 8.5 million viewers!! No animated series in a paid streaming service in India has done it before, and proof that Indians are very optimistic about "The Legend Of Hanuman" and praising the Animation and the Creative Lore of it!!

If you have time, please watch "The Legend of Hanuman" on Disney+ Hotstar in India and Hulu in the US, it is the series you really need to watch out for and worth the Time and Money!!

And I cannot praise more and I also cannot wait for what's in Store for Season 3 of it!!

The KT Rolster team, which won 16 consecutive games in the 2023 LCK (League of Legends Champions Korea) Summer Regular League, became the All-LCK First Team. LCK said that five key players of KT Rolster were selected as a result of the All-LCK First Team vote held today. The 2023 LCK Summer Award winner was selected through a vote of about 40 people, including each team's coach and representative players, domestic and overseas broadcasters, analysis desk cast members, and reporters.

LCK selects the All-LCK First Team, Second Team, Third Team and Regular League MVP (Regular Season MVP), and Player of the Split through a vote of officials at the conclusion of the regular league between Spring and Summer Split. After the completion of the summer split regular league, the "Best Head Coach" of the year and "Rookie of the Year" of the year will be announced.

KT Rolster's five main players were selected for the 2023 Summer Split All LCK First Team. KT Rolster won 16 consecutive games from the second week to the ninth week of the summer regular league, and in the process, he set a record that is on par with the 17th set winning streak, the record for the most consecutive LCK single split sets.
