First of all, she's on the money; that's how much of a treasure she is. She's beautiful in such a distinct way you need very few lines to draw her. (Drawing by Einar Nerman) She managed to be mesmerizing in both silent and sound films. She kissed a woman in Queen Christina (and probably several more in real life). She was super dry and really funny in Ninotchka. She got the hell out of Hollywood and stayed out, living for almost 50 years after her retirement.

Garbo is one of the many reasons why I'm gay. If you haven't seen Queen Christina please do, She is so gender in that film. Also her accent makes it sound like she's always talking in cursive and it's so hypnotic (or at least I think so).

She's a gay introvert, like all of us here on Tumblr.

Hi there! I started relistening to the bright sessions (as one does) and had a random question come up. When did you know that Mark/Sam wasn't going to be endgame (romantically)? I know in s4 they both fall apart separately and together, but even in Safehouse pt 2 (my absolute beloved) they argue about their coping mechanisms. Did you know then that they weren't going to end up together? How did you come to that conclusion?

hey!! this is a great question - I definitely did start the show thinking they were endgame and that's mostly what I was thinking at the time of safehouse too, despite their issues. I think it was really in writing Season 4 actually, when I realized that I was no longer telling a story about two people in love working through their issues, but was instead telling a story about two people who were in love but realized they shouldn't be together in that way. I started to feel those tension points in Season 3 (I would say the safehouse episodes were a true attempt for them to learn to work through their issues), but it wasn't until planning S4 that I really made the decision.

there are a lot of things that led to this that I'll try to articulate, because the honest, simplest answer as to why the plans changed was "because it felt like they should". but if I were think back and pinpoint a few reasons for that...

there was never supposed to be a love triangle. Mark was always bisexual but he and Damien were never supposed to develop feelings for one another. but the first time we got Andrew and Charlie into a room and read through their first episode together it was like "oh, OH-kay" (which, sidebar: clearly I was writing something between them subtextually because it wasn't like Andrew and Charlie were strangers to each other - I'd watched them act ALL sorts of scenes together in acting class but the romantic chemistry popped OUT with Mark/Damien. pretty much from the second motel episode on, I was writing leaning into that dynamic). that threw a lot of spanners into the works because while I never had plans to put Mark and Damien together, I hadn't anticipated Mark grappling with feelings for someone else.

similarly, I'd underestimated just how flawed Sam was. Sam is not a bad person, but she sometimes doesn't really know how to be a person who cares about other people. when you add that to the dynamics of Damien and Joan kind of, like, hovering over Mark in various unproductive ways (for Damien, it's destructive and invasive; for Joan, she's just a too-involved older sister sometimes), Sam becomes another person who is kind of, like...controlling Mark, or trying to, because she loves him and doesn't know how to (I mean, I'm pretty sure I'm just regurgitating actual lines I wrote lol). this is not to say that her flaws make her unable to be in a relationship (Mark is also deeply flawed!) but just that their flaws clashed against each other in ways I hadn't planned.

finally: Joan and found family. in my mind, there was something grand and romantic about Sam meeting Dr. Bright so that she could be led to Mark - like they were somehow always fated to meet. in actuality, it's not that at all - instead, the bond that Sam and Joan have is just as important as the one she has with Mark, albeit different. I don't believe in soulmates personally, but I've always liked the idea that you have people out there. soulmates in a more general sense - people you click with, have a connection with. it can be romantic, familial, friendship, work or creative partnerships, whatever. I think the Bryant siblings and Sam have that. I think Sam and Mark are meant for each other but in a non-exclusive way and in a...maybe not non-romantic way, but a way that doesn't have romance at the forefront. they love each other deeply and they fit, but a romantic partnership might not be the best way forward for them. and Joan and Sam are the whole heart of the show to me in some senses. as I was writing the finale, I very intentionally ended with the two of them - both because the final appearance of every character is in order of when they first appeared, but in reverse and also because the show starts with both of them in dark, destructive places and while there's broken trust between them throughout, they ultimately help each other get better. I thought Sam's story was about finding love and it was, but that love looked differently than I had planned.

okay, god, this has gotten waaaaaay too long and rambly. I hope this answers your question? one of my favorite things/the thing I miss most about making a show like TBS is being able to shift things based on chemistry/what the actors bring/etc. so often now, I'm writing entire seasons of things and then handing them off to production, in which anything can happen! the flexibility of recording episode by episode in TBS is something I took full advantage of.

Cinder (The Lunar Chronicles) Marissa Meyer*

Young Adult fairy tale retelling. Cinder, a cyborg with a mysterious past she can't remember, lives with her stepmother and two stepsisters in New Beijing as a deadly plague ravages the world and a race of Lunar people threaten war against the entire planet. As Cinder becomes entwined with the young prince Kai, she is pulled more and more into dangerous politics that see her as less than human due to her cybernetics, yet need her to save them.

House of Suns by Alastair Reynolds

Six million years in the future, humanity has spread across the entire Milky Way galaxy. Every 200 000 years they all meet to compare memories and experiences. Worse; she herself isn't sure if she's still really Lia, or whether she's even a person at all anymore.

Blindsight (Firefall duology)by Peter Watts*

Vampires and aliens and questions of the nature of consciousnesses, oh my. A ship is sent to investigate the sudden appearance of an alien vessel at the edge of the solar system, but the crew, a group of various level of transhumanism, isn't prepared for the horrors awaiting them. No, seriously, this book will fuck you up, highly recommend if you’re okay with a lot of techno babble and existential horror.

Mortal Enginges (Mortal Engines quartet) by Philip Reeve*

Young Adult. On a barely survivable Earth humanity has taken to living on great wandering cities, hunting each other across the plains for resources. Tom lives in London, but when he intervenes to stop a murder, he falls off the city alongside a strange and hostile girl on the hunt for revenge. Together they set out to catch up to the city, but are chased by a murderous machine like being set on stopping them. Trans/posthumanism isn't the main theme of the book, but it continues to grow in importance throughout the series.

Can you rate some bonnie ships

Sure! This is just based on my personal preference, combining what we got in canon and the potential Bonnie stans explore in fanon.

This is pretty long so I'll put a text breaker (or whatever that's called) here. If you wanted me to go in-depth for a certain ship, feel free to ask! I apologize in advance for any misspells, grammar mistakes or errors.

1. Stefonnie and Bonkai

I have a few posts dedicated to my love of Stefonnie, but I’ll say it again, out of all of Bonnie’s ships, they had some of the best foundations based on canon alone. Same with Bonkai. There easily could’ve been a smooth transition into a relationship for both ships.

Season 5 was the perfect time to set Stefonnie up instead we got the blandness that is Ste.roline due to how similar their arcs were up to that point and how the main conflict of that season affected them two the most out of the main cast.

Anyone with eyes could see that Bonkai had a similar setup to TVDUS “dark romance” ships like DE and KC. The whole “bad boy x good girl” trope combined with the “evil guy is willing to change to earn the heart of the morally rich girl” trope was very on brand for Julie and Bonkai did it in a way that, again in my opinion, subverted from the norm. Bonnie held Kai accountable in a way that Elena and Caroline simply didn’t when it came to their highly questionable boyfriends. On top of that, I loved how Kai brought out the more vengeful side of Bonnie that had been somewhat watered down in seasons 3-5. Bonkai had one thing that was missing from all of Bonnie’s canon ships; passion. Out of all of Bonnie’s ships, canon or otherwise, Bonkai had the most electric chemistry. You can feel the emotions from Kat and Chris through the screen and they played off each other so well.

2. Klonnie

Bonnies ship with the most wasted potential. Klaus and Bonnie had everything in place to be a well-done ship. Not only did Kat and Joseph have great chemistry, but they were the biggest captains of this ship when Klaus was just getting started in TVD. They individually had the most interesting lore of all the TVDU characters and given how intertwined the Mikaelsons and the Bennetts were, should’ve interacted far more times in canon. Klaus was said to always have a witch by his side but wouldn't want to seduce Bonnie into joining his team after nearly reaching the damn near impossible feat of killing him? As a "novice" witch at that!

Additionally, Bonnie would've THRIVED in The Originals. TO was a very witch-centric show with a lot of characters I would've loved seeing Bonnie interact with. No offense to Hayley, but there's no denying that Bonnie being Hope's mother would have made more sense than what canon gave us.

3. Bonora

If Julie and Co didn’t want Bonnie to date one of their precious fan-favorite white men, fine. Bonora was there and would’ve been such a nice ship for Bonnie. Kat had been advocating for Bonnie to be bisexual for a long time to no avail instead we got Fr.eelin which, no shade, is basically shein Bonora despite Kat having great chemistry with women as well as men. If you had put Nora in Enzo's place in the later 2 seasons of the show very little would’ve changed. In fact, Bonnie’s arc would’ve significantly improved.

4. Kennett

Kennett has somewhat slipped down my ranking due to how disgusting the actor who plays Kol is, but for the ship's sake let’s just imagine Daniel Sherman was the one to start off playing Kol, okay? Okay <3

Kol was said to have a love of witches very early on in the show. The most consistent thing about his character was how he stayed connected to magic despite no longer being able to practice it himself. Bonnie was undisputedly the most powerful witch he had ever come across. Why wasn’t he more interested in her? Bonnie was the one solving everyone’s magical issues as a 17-year-old self-trained witch. Kol would’ve loved to dissect her mind, watch her do spells, and even share his own 1000 years' worth of knowledge about magic with her.

5. Tonnie

I honestly don’t have much to say about Tonnie, but I do think they could’ve been fun in the later seasons. Julie said that her shitty alternative ending for Bonnie was her ending up with Matt and having children with him, which sucks ASS by the way, and while I had the idea of Bonnie getting an even more half-baked romance than she got with Jeremy and Enzo, I would've sucked it up if it were with Tyler. Bonnie and Tyler were childhood friends and should've gotten even closer when Elena and Matt started dating considering they were their best friends. I can definitely imagine Elena trying to force Bonnie on a double date with her, Matt, and Tyler.

While Forwood is one of my favorite canon TVDU ships, Tyler and Bonnie bonding early on over their supernatural heritage would've made a lot more sense given that witches and werewolves traditionally get along significantly better than either species do with vampires.

6. Bamon

If you had asked me this in 2020/21, Bamon would've topped my list. I don't by any means hate them, but I'm admittedly not as fond of them anymore. I feel like Bamon is most serious Bonnie stans first, and/or most beloved ship. And it makes sense! Bonnie and Damon had excellent chemistry, a large amount of focus on their relationship in season 6 and onward, and a lot of romantically coded scenes despite the writers' hopes of dissuading the fans. My biggest gripe with Bamon is that, like most dynamics including Damon, Damon benefits from having Bonnie in his life significantly more than Bonnie benefits from having Damon in her life. Additionally, given how they wrote Steroline in regards to Stelena, how Bamon would play out in canon in regards to Delena sounds like a nightmare to me.

7. Bonenzo

Bonenzo is Bonnie's best canon ship but lord knows that's not saying a lot. The ship felt as if the writers took bits and pieces from Bamon and Kennett/Kolvina and said "Here, damn!" in hopes to shut Bonnie fans up. I honestly wouldn't dislike them nearly as much if they were actually endgame. Enzo's presence was merely to give Bonnie a romance, and he didn't even fulfill the means that justified his existence.

8. Beremy

He cheated on her with a ghost. Enough said.

MY AU Garmadon Headcanons

As stated in my previous headcanon he and Wu are actually much younger looking than they are in the show, Garmadon doesn’t care for what others think him and doesn’t bother changing his appearance except for maybe making his tail and horns go away but other than that he doesn’t change anything

In my mind I like to think that Misako had gone after Garmadon after Wu introduced them to each other, and they got happily married, had children together and were happy. But after having Lloyd, Misako decided that she should cheat like the bitch that she is and then write about it for ‘history’ then the whole ‘burn/first burn’ thing happens and Garmadon gives her a huge rant before telling her to leave, then he got banished to the underworld(let’s save more of this for another post lmao)

His first name is actually Yakushi(I looked it up I actually named him by a last name lmao) and it means: 薬 meaning medicine, chemical, enamel, gunpowder, benefit./ 師 meaning expert, teacher, master, model, exemplar, army (incl. counter), war. In reality I just put Yaku and Shi together lol because well Yaku was the accumulated bad luck from everyday life and Shi was death so I was like ‘oH uNfOrTuNaTe dEaTh’

He is a very tall man at 6’6(213 cm)

When the other ninja tell him about Harumi, he’s torn between wanting to knock some sense into her or thanking her for bringing him back to his son after all this time

Garmadon takes Lloyd out on Father son bonding days, sometimes he takes the other ninja too

He’s actually Nya and Kai’s godfather, as decided by both Ray and Maya

Garmadon always tells Lloyd and the other ninja he loves them at least once a day to show them he cares 🫶

When the other elemental masters saw him during the tournament of elements they were surprised at how young he looked compared to Clouse and Chen though they were alive at the same time, then Garmadon had to explain his dna and how it worked and worked in jabs at Clouse and Chen

He didn’t steal no letter, Misako wrote letters to him and Wu

Garmadon has been singing lullabies to Lloyd for Lloyd’s whole life like when Lloyd was a baby, when Lloyd was a child at Darkley’s(showed up as a shadow and sang to him like that), when Lloyd was a teen, and even as basically an adult. He will never stop because he likes to sing to his son

He has a few scars on his body like the bite from the great devourer, when he got possessed by the overlord, has a scar on his side from fighting his brother with the golden weapons, has a scar across his chest from when he got into a with someone bullying Wu, has a large burn scar on his back that covers the majority of his upper back, and he also has random scars on his legs from when he was a child

He loves cuddling and will cuddle Lloyd, Wu and sometimes the other ninja(if they want to)

He likes to draw and has taken to drawing Lloyd, the other ninja, Wu, plants and animals in his free time

He hates puppets and he hates snakes even more

He’s an amazing cook and an even better baker, and he always drags the ninja into it along with Lloyd, lots of good memories for the Lloyd, ninja and him

For Cole it’s buddy, Rock star, Beefcake(teasingly), Tiger, Hercules, and Tarzan(when Cole was up in the trees and shit)

For Jay it’s Blue Jay, Chatterbox, Sparky, Giggles, Pipsqueak, Small fry, Freckles, Energizer, Peanut, Turbo, Blueberry,

Chapter 1 - Worthless Words

After the events of the Tournament of Elements, which had left every one of the ninjas forever scarred at the sight of noodles, the group had enjoyed a relatively peaceful few weeks.

Sensei Wu had been focusing mainly on setting up his tea shop, with Misako to help. The ninjas themselves had been focusing on lesser tasks, small disturbances around Ninjago. Things that took no more than an hour to fix up. Loose chickens, petty thieves, the occasional flying sushi restaurant. All easy, all a much-needed break from the chaos of whatever had happened on that island.

Resting on their laurels wasn’t all they were doing, though. Plenty of the reconnaissance Nya had been doing pointed to some strange occurrences, all taking place in or around Jamanakai Village. They’d handled them all. First, there was the missing tea from Mystake’s shop. Then, several livestock disappeared. And most recently, reports of a strange man going from door to door, asking about an abandoned home in the village.

And now, that same abandoned house the man had been asking about was exactly the destination of the ninjas.

“Where is this house anyways?” Cole asked. He slowed his run to a jog, trying to catch his breath.

“We don’t know,” Kai gritted his teeth. Cole knew that.

“Then where are we going?” Kai sighed, still running, creating more and more distance between him and Cole.

“We’re just going to search until we find the guy, okay?” Cole caught up to him, still panting and wheezing slightly. Not that anyone would notice, he hoped.

“And if we don’t?”

“Cole,” Zane cut in. “I seem to remember Sensei telling you something about worthless words. Perhaps this is not the time for such things, considering your elevated heart rate and lower oxygen intake.”

Cole remembered that.

“Don’t waste your breath on worthless words,” Master Wu had said. It was one-on-one training, but had quickly changed course when Cole said something along the lines of ‘Are we done yet?’

He knew it had been a stupid question.

Don’t waste your breath, was all Cole thought about. He singled out the phrase, a useless one, at that, and repeated it. He rolled it over in his mind, contemplating his next move.

There was a meaning Master Wu meant, a deep one, but Cole couldn’t help but laugh a little. That was the wrong move. Wu drew himself up to his full height – which wasn’t very tall compared to Cole, but then again, no one was – regarding Cole with a look that could only spell one thing.

S-t-u-p-i-d.

“Is something funny to you?” Wu had asked. Cole knew at that moment that honesty was the only correct answer, if he wanted to have time to play videogames with Jay instead of more training – or even worse, chores.

“Yeah, it’s just, you know I have asthma. Wasting my breath is kind of my whole thing.”

He spent the rest of the night doing laundry for everyone.

Cole snapped back to the present moment.

Sensei wasn’t here. He could respond however he wanted.

“Are you saying my questions are stupid?”

“Because they are, dirt clod!” Jay was suddenly beside Cole, keeping up with ease. Cole scoffed at him.

“Says you! You’re the one always wasting your words on stupid jokes!” Cole was nearly doubled over by the end of the sentence, but he managed to keep going. There was no doubt the others noticed his lagging behind now.

“Guys, maybe we should stop,” Lloyd called out. He slowed, keeping pace with Cole, and grabbed his shoulder. Cole glared at him, but eventually came to a halt. Jay followed shortly after, walking back a little to grab Cole’s other shoulder. Zane and Kai exchanged a glance, before pausing also.

Cole immediately doubled over, gasping and heaving with the effort to suck in breath. Lloyd pulled on his shoulder, and he looked up.

“Stand up straight,” Lloyd commanded. Cole did so, hesitantly. Lloyd nodded, and guided his hands to rest on top of his head. “Like that. Makes it easier to breathe.”

Cole still struggled to speak, so he nodded. It did make it easier to breathe. It also made it easier to see the scowl on Kai’s face.

“Kai, just keep going. I’ll catch up later.”

“No, we go as a team.” Lloyd glared at Kai, who only rolled his eyes. “Ignore him,” he said to Cole.

“Seriously, I’m fine. You guys go ahead.” Lloyd shook his head. Kai tilted his head back in a deep sigh, before coming over to Cole.

“No, Cole. Lloyd’s right. We’re ninjas. Ninjas stick together.” Kai rested a hand on Cole’s back, and threw a strained smile in his direction. Cole grunted a response. “Yeah, I probably deserve that.” Kai laughed a little, and rubbed a small circle into Cole’s shoulder blade before retracting his palm. “How about we split up after this? Cover more ground? We’ll have to run a lot less, and we can go at our own pace.”

“That sounds like a good idea for once, Kai. But as soon as anyone finds anything, get the others. No one should be going in alone.” Everyone nodded at Lloyd’s words, but Cole knew they were mostly directed at him.

Cole shouldn’t be going in alone.

"Alright. After we're all ready, we'll split up. I can take the main road, Zane and Jay can go left, Kai and Cole can go right. From there it's up to you how you want to split your areas up. If anything happens, we all have communication devices. Just give us a shout. Sound good?" Everyone except Cole nodded.

After Cole is ready.

Cole suddenly realised the others were staring at him, and he gave a half-hearted nod of his own.

A few awkward minutes passed before Cole was (mostly) ready to keep going. He nodded at Kai, and the group headed off in their respective directions. Not before they all had the chance to shout, in unison,

"Ninja, go!"

Which Cole was a little bit tired of but he admired the sentiment.

"So, how do we want to do this?" Kai asked. Cole shrugged. "I mean, we don't have to split up. If you don't want to."

"I want to! I don't need to be taken care of, I can handle shit myself."

Kai put his hands up in surrender.

"I wasn't saying you couldn't."

"Sure you weren't. I'll go up here, you look down there. Is that good enough?" Cole gestured up and down the side road they stood in the centre of.

Kai nodded wordlessly, and the pair split. Cole ran, ignoring the burning in his lungs, and haphazardly glanced at the houses next to him.

Why did Kai – why did everyone, for that matter – treat him like he couldn't do anything? He was perfectly capable, he just also had occasional asthmatic symptoms that made it a little hard to be a ninja. But it didn't completely stop him, so what was the big fuss all about?

He could still do things.

He would prove it.

He could prove it to them all, especially Kai. Kai, who always acted like he knew everything, knew what was the best for everyone. Cole didn’t know what he’d do without Nya, who seemingly never failed to shut Kai up. But Nya wasn’t with them, so Cole had to listen to Kai go on and on with all the thoughts that entered his head. The brain-to-mouth filter on Kai was incredibly thin, if it existed at all. Cole was starting to doubt that.

To a certain extent it was admirable. And on more than one occasion, Cole found himself lost to whatever tirade Kai had gone on. It was infectious, to a degree, and Cole did discover he had picked up some of those traits of a classic Kai monologue.

For example, how Cole would sometimes pinch his fingers together in front of him like Kai would to light a flame, almost always to punctuate something particularly important. Or how Cole would accidentally slip in a few puns related to fire, rather than his normal earth theme.

No one mentioned it.

Cole was grateful for that.

The point was – Cole had lost track of his own train of thought – that Cole could do things. Would do things. And show Kai – and everyone else – how useful he was.

Not that Kai had ever outwardly said he wasn’t useful, but Cole certainly felt the implication when Kai extended his long column of throat and sighed to the heavens. Not that Cole noticed the warm, tanned skin and the bob of his Adam’s apple. Or the way he sucked in a deep breath before exhaling and his nostrils would flare up, pulling his lips into an almost-smile. And Cole definitely didn’t notice the little eye-roll that almost always accompanied the gesture, something Kai probably assumed no one saw, unless they were looking into those deep brown eyes with such an intense stare it would be impossible to miss – no, Cole didn’t notice any of that.

Cole only noticed the implication.

The ‘Oh god, I hope Cole doesn’t fuck this up too.’

Cole noticed that.

And he hated it.

Cole rarely messed anything up for the team. If anything, Kai was the one who usually got them in trouble by running his mouth. Or by trying to use hair oil to slip through the bars of a cage. Kai fucked things up. So did Jay! If anything, Cole was the least likely to fuck things up. Behind Nya and Zane, of course.

Cole was the middleground. Yeah, that worked. Cole was the average amount of fuck-up.

Dad would probably agree with that sentence, Cole thought. The idea made him laugh. He couldn’t imagine his dad saying any sort of swear word.

Cole almost missed the glowing wooden hut tucked between two larger houses on the side of the road. His thoughts had clouded his vision, and he quickly shook the remaining few out of his head.

Cole slowed to a halt, digging both of his heels into the ground and glancing up and down the road. He could just barely see Kai, going from house-to-house in close inspection, but he was far enough away and his back was turned.

Surely, Cole could investigate the glowing hut on his own? He didn’t need help to just look around.

Just a quick perimeter search, nothing more.

Cole approached the hut slowly, making a tight circle around. He didn’t see anything out of the ordinary besides the pulsing green glow emanating from the windows all around the hut. It was an inconspicuous sort of building otherwise, neatly sandwiched between two larger, much more prominent homes. Made of wood and straw, it didn’t stand out in the plain environment of the mountain-side village. Nothing weird about the outward appearance – save for the green luminesce.

He did, however, hear something strange. A chant, low and threatening, that sounded like multiple layers of voice over top of one another. And yet, each voice maintained the same even tone and cadence. It seemed like it must be one singular voice, echoing strangely in the small abode. Cole was familiar with the sound.

Someone was casting some sort of spell or incantation inside the hut.

Suspicious.

Cole hesitantly climbed the stairs to the front door. The Kai in him screeched ‘Get the others!’ and he ignored it. Mostly.

He did pause, when he was directly standing in front of the wooden door. It was slanted, dislocated. Wear and tear decorated what might have once been an intricately painted front, but was now only a few chips of paint away from being entirely barren.

He argued with Kai – in his own mind, of course – about the pros and cons of going in.

On the one hand, Cole knew that the plan was to get the others if they saw anything strange. This hut certainly qualified as such. Spells or magic of any kind was considered by the ninjas to be worthy of note, despite how many supernatural encounters they’d faced.

Kai would probably say something like, ‘This is some weird shit, you should get the others so you can investigate together. Going in alone is a bad idea.’

And Kai had a point. It was most certainly a bad idea. But how else was Cole supposed to prove himself when it was so clear that none of the others believed in him? Cole was capable. Cole knew his limits. This was not one of them.

‘We believe in you.’

Cole rolled his eyes at that. Of course the Kai in his mind was effortlessly sweet. If only the Kai in real life cared that much about Cole’s feelings and wellbeing. No, the Kai outside of Cole’s mind thought he was nothing more than a useless fuck-up.

‘Maybe he’s right.’

The door nearly fell off its hinges when Cole shoved it open.

random headcanon: When he fully put down roots on Mirinoi, the Astro Rangers made it a point to visit when they could to help out and TJ Johnson introduced Leo to Bulk so he could get a proper job and learn how to cook properly for himself so he didn't have to keep relying on Kai for his meals. Oddly enough, when the former Angel Grove resident wasn't occupied with the Professor, he made a very good life coach and didn't mind having Leo around.

Introducing... Amari & Sven for @madebycoffee

Amari Oates (29, Straight?) has dreams of making it big in music and dance. He’s smooth, confident, friendly and always looking for his next adventure. He has so much energy he nicknames himself the energizer bunny (and I’ll let you interpret that how you want 😏), however this comes with a drawback. He’s often restless and this includes socially where he may want to move too quickly. He keeps himself in great condition through dance, calisthenics and yoga. He lost his hearing in one ear due to a childhood illness but this didn’t stop him leaning to spin the decks. He’s entering the challenge with eyes for Xiomara, and maybe to sneakily gain some fame too👀 . Originally from Oasis Springs, Amari moved to San Myshuno to achieve his dream of being a professional dancer (Bailey Kay hit him up pls🥹) Only it hasn’t quite worked out. But he’s never worried! His slightly better than average DJ skills have kept him living comfortably in San Myshuno. Right??

Wrong. The increase in living costs has hit the sims world hard. And with these living costs, Amari has had to get a roommate. Which brings us to:

Sven Lingaard (31, Bisexual). An upbeat, very handy, but incredibly messy gentleman. Sven comes from a large family originally from Widenburg. They moved to Henford on Bagley, purchased a 50x40 plot of land and built a farm. Sven is not shy of hard work, and anything that broken he can fix. Now, despite Sven coming from a big family (five brothers and sisters), he can be reserved and almost naïve at times. He hasn’t had many experiences and in fact has only had one partner in life (his high school sweetheart called ?????) He prefers a slow burn type of romance. He’s decided to try new things from moving to San My, to entering the bachelor/ette hopefully winning the heart of either Xiomara or Taine.

Roommate dynamic and other points:

These two have only known each other for a short while. They’re sort of friends, but can clash at times. Amari isn’t a exactly tidy himself but he has a really hard time with Sven’s untidiness (think constantly muddy boots, dirty clothing and plates across the apartment). 

Sven works the morning shift as a fisherman but Amari’s late night dance rehearsals or mixing means a lack of sleep at least three times a week. 

Sven would love a big family one day (soon). He has a very good relationship with his family and couldn’t dream of having anything less than five kids. Amari is neutral on this topic but perhaps someone can change his mind...

Because Amari doesn’t worry about things, he can fail to realise the importance of some situations. This is why he hasn’t gotten a steady job.

Sven likes to craft beer...or juice 😏. He currently only does this for personal use. Even if Amari is often “borrowing” a bottle or two (pre-drinks amirite?)

Amari’s confidence means he likes to show off. A lot. He can come across as arrogant. But just give him a reality check and he’ll pack it in.

Anyway, I hope you, Xiomara and Taine like them both!

B, N, U and Z for the fandom ask game please 👀

B - A pairing you initially didn’t consider but someone changed your mind

Harrisco actually. Its so obvious to me now, but it was seeing the fandom edits and the like here on tumblr that made me go 'huh, I should check this ship out' and then I went and devoured basically everything for the ship on Ao3 at the time. And then started writing for the ship myself.

N - Name three things you wish you saw more or in your main fandom (or a fandom of choice)

Well, in general terms, I wish I saw more aro headcanons from non-aspec people. I'm starting to see more of that to some degree but when I'm in the mood for aro characters the pickings are slim in fandom even when there's a canonically aro character. Or possibly especially when there's a canonically aro character? It's kinda gotten to where every time we get a canonically aro character in a show I wind up avoiding that fandom for a while because there's an uptick of allos going 'well actually what if i ship them romantically and ignore their queer identity anyway because fandom is boring without shipping' and well how dare I want representation that isn't erased by the fandom huh? (*insert big sigh here*) And that's not even touching what happens if you happen to mention headcanoning as aro a character who is popularly headcanoned as gay/lesbian but doesn't actually have a canonical sexuality mentioned. (Looking straight at Luke Skywalker and Queen Elsa.)

I think another thing I wish I saw more of in fandom was acknowledging character faults without it turning into character bashing. It's something I try to balance out in my fics, making space for character flaws to be called out while still showing them learning and growing from that. But I see a lot of fics out there where a single mistake in canon is the basis for damning that character forever and clearly they're secretly an evil monster. Its a phenomenon that happens more in some fandoms than others, but it does pop up everywhere and can be exhausting to run into. Cobra Kai seems to suffer from character bashing a lot in particular, which made my foray into that fandom rather short lived.

In the Flash fandom in particular, I wish there were more Gideon fights back against Eobard fics. It's a fun premise to write and Gideon deserves more love than canon gives her. So I'm always excited when I find that someone else has written her as more than a passive background character. (And then maybe Ao3 would finally stop conflating tags for Gideon on the Flash and Gideon on Legends as being the same character when they aren't...)

U - 5 favorite characters from 5 different fandoms

Yuri Lowell from Tales of Vesperia - He's a vigilante trouble maker who encourages delinquency in his friend Estelle (the Princess) and helps save the world because he's a good person who just wants to protect the people he loves and the world they live in. He's snarky and probably has a jail cell in Zaphias reserved specifically for him and has canonically shoved knights into the fountain for various reasons that had Karol going O_O why??? upon hearing it recounted later. (Yuri - I forgot about that. Still hilarious. *snicker*)

Cisco Ramon from The Flash - Genius mechanical engineer whose greatest power is his imagination because what else would let him create so many amazing inventions? He's steadfast and loyal, probably the kindest person on the show. His hair is amazing - which he knows quite well - and he gets flustered when complimented on it by cute guys. (Leo - Love the hair. Cisco - *blushes*). It's amazing when oblivious show writers think they've written a straight guy, but it's actually a character who is intensely bisexual.

Atton Rand from Knights of the Old Republic 2: The Sith Lords - Snarky former Sith accidentally finds atonement and joins the rebooting of the Jedi. Also there's a chance that he'll make fun of the 'are you an angel' line from The Phantom Menace and that cracks me up.

Bastila Shan from Knights of the Old Republic - She's very much the stereotypical uptight Jedi and it's actually no real surprise when she falls to the Dark Side (briefly or not depending on your actions in the game) but she's a lot of fun when she actually lets loose. It's interesting to see her learn to relax and make friends and drop the holier than though attitude the Jedi hammered into her. She just very much wants to be a good person and protect others. And if you play with her as the love interest (default love interest for guys, mods to unlock her for the ladies) then it is absolutely hilarious to hear her say 'shut up and kiss me, you fool'.

Zelos Wilder from Tales of Symphonia - Tragic backstory? Check. Covering his crippling depression with jokes and innuendoes? Check. Struggles to open up to his friends and be honest about his feelings? Check. Triple agent causing headaches for everyone? Triple check. But if you get him the highest relationship values he demonstrates he may actually be gay or bi as he hits on Lloyd ("put on a show that'll make me fall in love" is not a straight thing for him to say to Lloyd... at all) and there a scene that will only change if he has the highest values at that point in the game - the rest of the scenes are different depending on every character, not just him.

Tales of Symphonia was the first game I played where player choices affected the game itself. While the game's ending doesn't really change, there are scenes in the game itself that are different based on the hidden relationship values system. I had no idea about this first time through and got Colette every time, but I learned about the hidden system as I started branching into fandom spaces and did replays with Raine, Genis, Presea, Kratos... and Zelos (sorry, Regal, I was just... uh, not super interested in you, my dude) and it was really Zelos who captivated me the most. And he's queer coded, heavily so, so I suppose it's really no surprise I adore the redheaded, gender non-conforming menace.

It was really my first real venture into fandom spaces beyond just fanfic too, so Tales of Symphonia is very near and dear to my heart for all sorts of reasons. I read a lot of fan theories about the game, but was still at a point where I was way too timid to really contribute my own too much. High school me was definitely struggling with self confidence at the time.

I've got a lot of headcanons for the game which have changed to some degree or other over time, so with the game's HD re-release happening in, like, three days, I've decided the time has come for a replay and I'm really hoping to see a bit of a fandom boom happening as new players discover this game and people who haven't played in a while rediscovering their love for it. Might be time to dust off my old fics, go on an editing spree, and start posting them on Ao3.

making this post because i realized many of my ocs bios don't work anymore since they're linked to my old archived blog. this is a post which i will frequently update with my original character's information so that people can find it easily and all in one place for convenience. all of my ocs bios will be added here as needed, and if more are created, they will also be added to this post

the rebel werewolf.

name: kai fenrir aliases: fang, prefers to be called this than his real name gender: male, he/him age: 16 sexuality: bisexual occupation: bounty hunter species: werewolf height: 5'7ft voiceclaim: louis from the walking dead

personality: rude, brash, bold, easily agitated, arrogant, overconfident, picks fights often, doesn't like authoritative figures, protective over those he trusts, hides his weaknesses.

background: kai fenrir was born to his father, derek, and a mother who has yet to be named. however, the family has a history of it's descendants having the ability to shift into wolves thanks to their ancestor, who once aided the norse god, fenrir, and thus gained wolf genetics as a blessing by the higher being. these traits have been passed down in the family for hundred of years. this comes from derek's side of the family, who also has these wolf life abilities. however, kai was born small, akin to that of a runt in a real life litter of puppies, therefore making him the weakest of the family, which kai despised. he didn't want to be seen as weak, forthless or something which would tie his family down. this is why he began acting out at an early age, becoming a problematic child, developing aggressive and egotistical traits in order to prove himself to his parents. these traits were only amplified however when his mother was killed by poachers due to her association with derek and his cubs. this only caused kai to become more distant, not wanting to listen to his father or brother, and made him act out more, getting into fights with whomever would spare him the time. a group of a hunters were lead towards his house, tipped off by an unknown source. they hated the fact that a human and a werewolf were eloping together. his father died protecting his wife, and his mother then died protecting kai. she took his clothes, which carried his scent, so the hunters would chase her down instead, and told kai to run as far as he could. kai wanted nothing more than to make sure he was never seen as weak, adopting the name 'fang' for himself as another way to make himself seem tougher.

kai ran for his life after that point, running through rivers, brush and swamps, eventually finding himself at a nearby gas station. he sheltered himself in the dumpster, almost too afraid to move. his mind wasn't thinking clearly, so when he saw the open trunk of a car, kai wastes no time in rushing in, anything to get himself out of the area. this would be the trunk of @kokorotm's ocs, sally and park, whom he slowly bonds with and becomes like the little brother of the family.

background: it's unknown when shi first came to earth, for many of the people who live nearby, it seems that his clinic has been open ever since they first started walking. mr. kuromiya presents himself as nothing more than your average family friendly doctor, who's happy to treat patients of any size, age, or walk of life.

however, beneath the surface, this doctor holds a dark secret, if he can even call himself a doctor in the first place. in truth, shi isn't qualified to work in the medical field, nor is he human. he's a demon that's managed to make himself at home in human society, hiding in plain sight as the town's medical professional.

shi has an unhealthy obsession with humans, wanting to learn all there is about them, such as patterns in their psychology, but he has a particular interest in human biology. that is the true purpose of his clinic, which simply looks friendly on the outside. on the inside, down in the depths of his basement is this doctor's true workshop. this is where he takes his victims, dissects them, many times without anesthetic, performing experiments, removing organs and examining tissues whilst the patient is still living.

and just what does shi do with the remaining body parts to dispose of evidence? he consumes the remaining human tissue and organs. those he has chosen as his test subjects have never left his doctor's office alive, leaving the demon's true nature hidden away from the public.

background: kuro was born in a village that lives deep within the forests and mountains. the surrounding area is well known for housing mythical creatures of different shapes and sizes, and because of this, the village prided themselves on hunting these beings for power and riches. kuro was born to his mother and father,  yet one day his father mysteriously vanished, presumably killed by one of the many forest creatures. his mother refused to move on for many years, but she eventually ended up with another partner, the head huntsman of the village; now kuro’s stepfather.

growing up, kuro was enamored with his step father’s job, wanting to be just like him when he grew up, to take over the head position of huntsman. but one day, the boy fell ill, coming down with intense migraines and finding every single noise to hurt his ears. it was that day that kuro discovered about his true biology, being that of a mythical fox like creature. turns out, his birth father was in fact the guardian of the forest, having fallen in love for his mother and vanished back into the forest to not endanger his partner or newborn child

kuro barely had time to process all this information when he realized he had to leave his home, fearing for his safety if his family and friends were to find out about his true biology, seeing him as nothing but another animal for them to hunt and skin. collecting rags and old clothes to help conceal his identity, he fled into the forest where he now survives by the skin of his teeth, travelling from place to place trying to find somewhere safe and hopefully meet his birth father.

the recovering father (tw for child death, suicide and alcoholism)

personality: caring, protective, friendly, goofball, sometimes airheaded, easily flustered, suffers with depression and anxiety, parental, fun loving, adventurous

background: hiroshi was born into his grandfather's yakuza family, but picked up more duties when he was in his early twenties in order to support his wife and young daughter, but kept it secret from them in order to not cause any drama between his family. it worked out well for the first few years, with hiroshi's grandfather being the leader of his yakuza, and believed firmly in only hurting those who harm the family. however, when he passed and hiroshi's uncle took over, the yakuza became a lot more violent and aggressive, something which hiroshi did not agree with.

it all eventually became too much, with hiroshi eventually deciding he wished to quit and lead a normal life. his twin brother however, kurayami, who had taken over the yakuza from his uncle, refused outright, not wanting his brother to disgrace the family. his wishes were met after an intense argument, but his boss wasn’t happy about loosing one of his best men. so he and the remaining men infiltrated hiroshi’s house with guns whilst he was out and killed both his wife and daughter in cold blood. coming home to find his family dead, it broke hiroshi, sending him into a deep spiraling depression, which got so bad he once attempted to end his own life.

it took hiroshi a long time to come to terms with what he did, and even today, he's only just come to a point where he's in a stable enough state. he still often suffers with panic attacks, alcoholism and depressive episodes, but he's actively working to better himself if not for the sake of himself, but others around him. one of these steps to get his life back together was picking up a new job, which he now works as a nightshift security guard. however, he's also decided to try and become a police officer, which he is now in training for, in order to not let what happened to him happen to anybody else, to serve justice to other families such as himself.

the resurrected mage

personality: intelligent, analytical, oblivious, know it all, doesn’t speak a lot unless prompted to, seems distant, spaces out often, stares a lot, loves to read, has memory problems

background: in his previous life, idrowix was a famous and well known wizard, creating spells that could easily cure sickness as well as cause mass destruction if they so pleased.  however, they never wrote down any of their spells, keeping them secret. it was his power, and he didn’t wish to share it with anyone.  he would invite people into his hideout, performing curing spells within before sending them on their way, rarely stepping outside.

though with fame comes side effects. people began to grow curious about his skills, wanting their powers for themselves. there was only one issue, idrowix was rare to ever leave his hide out in the woods. so one night, a group of unsuspecting goons entered his home whilst he was asleep, searching for any books or notes of his, sniping him with a arrow through the eye, killing him. yet they found when ransacking his house, there was no traces of his magic, having murdered idrowix for nothing. with this being the case, his body was quickly discarded and thrown into a makeshift grave just outside his home, making it seem as if he simply vanished without a trace, none of the locals being told about his demise.

this was a hundred years ago.  and with the rise of a new age, people are still curious about what powers he was able to master, magic still not being able to replicate his spells. this leads to the mage reviving idrowix via a powerful spell by another wizard, but despite him now living once again, he has no memories of his past life, a mere husk of the man he used to be. his eye that was fatally shot healed, but the eyelid still remains drooped to this day, also being completely blind within it

despite not having any memories of whom he was, idrowix still has an interest in magic and books, thus spending most of his time within the library, reading and recording history. however, in order to use his magic for his own gain, the wizard who revived him prohibits idrowix from reading certain material to refuse him access to his old life and memories, essentially keeping him prisoner within his home.
