Protecting the Rebellion (solo #1) [Rogue One AU]

Cassian faded in and out of consciousness once he and Jyn had made their way back down from the citadel to the beaches of Scarif. They had successfully managed to get the signal out. They had achieved their goal.

That's when his memory became blurry.

Jyn was screaming his name. There was pain. A lot of pain. There was a scuffle at some point.

When he finally woke up for good, he looked around at the unfamiliar space.

Somehow he'd ended up sprawled out on the floor of the tiny room he was in, and when he tried to move he groaned in pain. He remembered being injured. He had believed he was going to die.

After gathering up enough strength (and courage), he managed to roll himself over onto his back as he cried out in pain once more. He's pretty sure his leg was broken as well as a few ribs, and the shot he'd gotten when Krennic hadn't missed still burned as if it were brand new.

It might as well be as he remembered the Empire wasted no time when it came to torturing him. They had become frustrated with him when even their truth serum hadn't extracted what they'd wanted from him. His lack of trust in nearly everyone he met prevented him from falling for their act. The most he shared was information that would lead them nowhere. That had led to torturing him with electric shock, hoping he'd give in and tell them what they wanted to know just to make the pain stop.

The realized they'd underestimated his resolve, but the Empire's torture methods were no secret and they had prepared for the eventuality.

Part of him wishes he'd died on Scarif though, or that the Empire would give up and kill him already. He wasn't sure his resolve could last forever after all.

Jyn scowled, rubbing at her raw wrists, slapped a branch out of her face. Those damn troopers. First Order Imperial lookalikes. Gods be damned, she was going to kill every last one of them if it was the last thing she did. 

Somewhere out there, Leia was crying out for help, and it was somewhere Jyn could not reach, because the First Order was blocking any resistance frequencies from recieving. Jyn swore loudly, startling some kind of bird out of its tree. She kicked a stump. That meant nobody else knew what was happening, or - and she shuddered to think of this - that they had been captured, too. 

It was sheer luck and training that got her out alive. That, and Cassian, she thought, glancing over her shoulder to where the man in question was seated on a fallen tree, reasembling his blaster. He'd found her. She wasn't surprised. The First Order got sloppy once they had her. 

Fuck.

There were too many allies out there that might need help. Hera Syndulla, her son Jacen, Ezra Bridger, Sabine Wren, Kallus and Zeb, the Lasat, even, Iden and Del Versio, Bodhi-
