realization about regis blackgaard i just had: in “the battle” he says he’s stupid with computers and relies on richard to do all the computer stuff, hanging back and asking a bunch of basic questions, but then in “double trouble” whit posts the article about regis being in vienna at some kind of technology conference, iirc giving talks about computer languages or something along those lines
which means that regis, after his escape, was considering finding another computer guy, then looked at everything that happened with his original computer guy — a teenage thug who spent most of his time (and some of regis’s pocket change) drinking sodas and milkshakes with a kid who had very little actual strategic value to their corporate espionage plans, and then used his “i’m in” skills and the moral code he’d accidentally absorbed from said kid to wreck literally everything regis had built in odyssey — and said “if you want something done right, do it yourself”
#richard: you made me spend years of my life either in jail or keeping tabs on you so I could get revenge/justice#regis: you made me learn BASIC i had to spend time with COMPUTER PEOPLE#adventures in odyssey#regis blackgaard#also remember when Richard says in dbd that he lost track of blackgaard after chicago#and then double trouble happens and he’s literally in journals with international credentials talking about computers#hey Richard are you okay. what were you doing then

Honestly I know it should be VERY FAR AWAY still the moment where we get to have justice for what was done to our family and our people but I will just say that if Viatica's rebelion end has taught me anything, is that it will ABSOLUTELLY be incredible to read through
But for now I shall be sitting patiently in my seat, and maybe putting on a 6th playthrough of Viatica in my schedule
Hope you have a good week Fir!
Thank you, my friend! I love that you’re rereading Viatica! ❤️
Yes, the final revenge is still a long ways off (so far off I haven’t even outlined it, lol). But you’ll definitely have missions and moments where you can derail the regis’s plans and therefore get some retribution. 😈
This IF will definitely be a long haul, and the story is ever evolving. But I hope you’ll enjoy it as much as Viatica! I hope you have a good week, too!

You’ve said before you haven’t got anything solid planned for Regis, have you at all considered the various sentient monsters that show up in the witcher and what sort of moral conundrum that could present? I’d be so interested to see a Doppler or vampire ending up in political machinations and having to figure out how the hell to handle it. When you catch a Doppler doing petty crime you can’t just like. Kill that guy. Could also present a spying opportunity. Who knows!
I feel like petty crime doesn't really rise to the level of Witcher justice in the AWAU. Like, if a doppler is disguising itself as various people in order to murder their family members, then yes, that's a Witcher problem, but not because it's a doppler, just because it's someone doing murder. Likewise, if a higher vampire is killing and eating people because of a blood addiction, the problem isn't that they're a vampire, it's that they're killing and eating people.
That said, when someone mentions dopplers to Mouse, she is going to lose her shit and demand to recruit at least a dozen.

Was thinking about my little headcanon that Color and the souls work out easier to say nicknames for them, makes it easier on all of them and easier to remember, especially if the souls don’t remember their actual names, and made a short list. A few nicknames/names belong to others who came up with them, but I’ve seen them around, like Marine.
Bravery:
Ave or Avery. Marine. Rave. Bravie. Bray. B-Rav. Bri. Vey. Briar.
Perseverance:
Perse (pronounced Percy) or Eve. Maybe Perseve. There’s also Vera.
Integrity:
In. Teg. Rit. Inny. Teggy. Tiri. Grit. Nitty. Tiggy. Iggy. Gritty. Regi. Ingo. Tegri. Tigris.
Kindness:
Ness. Kiki. Nicki/Nicky. K-Ness. Kine. Kenny. Kendi. Dessy. Kino.
Patience:
Pat. Pati. Just Patience. Ten, Tia, Penny and Ace are also options. Pati-Pie could also be a nickname from older souls.
Justice:
Jus. Ice. J/Jay. Tic. Clover. C. Clo. Juju. J.C. Jace. Juso. Jex/Jix.

Thinking about this again. I hadn't given it any thought at the time but that last post does make this specifically Wrath Carmen because it's a major difference in characterization that tabletop Carmen is, despite everything, not a hypocrite and is too morally pure to tempt (despite her questionable choice of morals). Wrath Carmen is a little more susceptible to the ends justifying the means as long as the right people are doing things (her).
Which is to say: tabletop Carmen would not be writing up other girls on dress code violation while violating it herself. She'd be writing them up while following the code and arguing for code reform.
Every so often I check the last few things in my notes app because I forget what I appended what I'm looking for to and I have rediscovered something from that day of dating sim AU posts going around which states, incorrectly, that Carmen Regis would be "aggressively and painfully normal" in a high school based dating sim. Lies and slander. I'm here to call my own private thoughts out. Carmen Regis would be one of those weirdly totalitarian anime student council members in an unhinged, deranged overpowered authoritarian student council. Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.
#I would not call tabletop Carmen a better person. she's a more consistent one but also more 'maybe some people inherently deserve to die'#which isn't great!! she's LE either way lmao.#I've always thought there was something to it about rank though- tabletop Carmen is not especially high up in her order#and Wrath Carmen is obviously the KC and even before was no longer directly attached to her order#different to be the one following the standards vs the one setting them...#and also something about circumstances where tabletop Carmen was trying to demonstrate a kind of exceptional virtue /because/ of separation#and in opposition to people she suspected were hypocrites within her order#carmen regis#character motif is always justice perverted by inflexible extremes it just manifests a lil differently

Origins of legendary Pokemon: gen V
I am once again covering the real-life inspirations of legendary and mythical Pokemon, this time covering those introduced in generation V (plus Enamorus). For previous entries see Gen IV, III, II, and I. For previous series I did like this see all fish Pokemon, all non-fish aquatics, and all starters.
The Swords of Justice all all based on different ungulates (hoofed mammals) and the three musketeers from the novel of the same name. Cobalion is based on Athos, the oldest of the musketeers who acted as the leader of the group. Its steel typing references Athos's title "Count de la Fère" where "Fère" is a pun on "fer", french for "iron". Physically, its upright, twisting horns look like those of antelopes like the greater kudu and common eland or the markhor, a wild goat. The ruff on its neck also looks like a cravat, a bit of old-school fashion. Terakkion is based on Porthos, the larges and strongest of the musketeers. Its rock typing comes from Porthos's title "du Vallon de Bracieux de Pierrefonds" where "pierre" means "stone". Physically it is based on a bull. Virizion is based on Aramis, the greatest swordsman of the musketeers, as well as the most feminine and romantic. Its grass yping comes from Aramis's real name René d'Herblay, which contains "herb". Its head also resembles a tricorne hat. Physically it resembles a gazelle.
(Image: a greater Kudu. It is a deer-like animal with two long, spiraling horns that point up into the air. It is brown but with stripes on its face, along the back, and down the sides. End ID)
(Image: a black bull. It has two horns that emerge from the sides of its head and curl around to face front. End ID)
(Image: a gazelle. It is a brown, deer-like animal with a shorter face, long neck, and two straight horns pointing into the air. End ID)
Keldeo is based on d'Atragnan, the fourth member of the musketeers who joins them during the course of the novel. Like d'Atragnan, it is the youngest member of the group, a fourth addition to a trio, and doesn't follow the naming scheme of the others. It's feather-like tail is based on d'Atragnan's feathered cap. Physically, Keldeo is based on a unicorn and it draws from the Scottish legend of the kelpie and the Chinese legend of the qilin. Like the kelpie, Keldeo is a legendary, horse-like creature that is associated with water. Kelpies were generally depicted as hostile to humans and Keldeo was orphaned by humans during a battle. The qilin is a creature describes as a horse-like dragon or dragon-like horse that was often depicted with a backwards-curving horn and the ability to walk over water.
(Image: art of a kelpie by Linley Barba. It looks like a black horse with wet, almost seaweed-like hair. End ID)
Like I did with the Regis, I'm including Enamorus with the other members of its group even though it debuted in a later generation. The Forces of Nature have a number of inspirations. In their human-like Incarnate forms, they resemble pop culture depictions of genies while their Therian forms they are based on the Four Symbols, a quartet of animals from Chinese mythology who represented different cardinal directions. Enamorous is Xuánwǔ, the black tortoise of the north, who was often depicted with a snake wrapped around its shell. Thundurus is Qīnglóng, the azure dragon of the east. Tornadus is Zhūquè, the vermillion bird of the south. Landorus is Báihǔ, the white tiger of the west. The four also represent the Anemoi, Greek gods of the four winds who were often associated with the seasons. Thundurus is Notus, the south wind who brings summer storms. Tornadus is the north wind Boreas, who brings winter. Enamorus is the west wind Zehyros, who is associated with flowers and spring and works for the love god Eros. That leaves Landorus as the east wind Eurus, who brings dry air and is associated with crops. Ken Sugimori also stated that the group are associated with Japanese gods, with Tornadus being the wind god Fujin, Thundurus being the thunder god Raijin and Landorus being a land god he didn't name but is probably Inari, god of harvests. This statement came out before Enamorous debuted, but it could be associated with the fertility god Ugajin. The original three are also assocaited with wind storms, thunderstorms, and sandstorms. Enamorus doesn't correspond to a storm, but they do say that love is in the air. The reveal glass being what is used to change forms implies inspiration from the Chinese myths of Yaoguai, animals and plants who spent thousands of years cultivating power to become gods. Their original forms can still be revealed with a demon-detecting mirror.
(image: an artistic depiction of the Four Symbols by RootOfAllLight on Wikipedia. They are the four animals drawn in dark blue on white, each enclosed in a circle and centered around a dot. End ID)
The Tao Trio are based on Yin and Yang, opposing yet interconnected forces that form the universe in Taoism. Reshiram represents Yang, which is associated with the color white and femininity while Zekrom represents Yin, which is associated with the color black and masculinity. Commentary from the developers indicates that Zekrom was designed to look more masculine and Reshiram was designed to look more feminine. Zekrom is also designed to look mechanical while Reshiram looks biological. Like Yin and Yang, the two dragons oppose each other but are still two parts of the greater whole that is the original dragon from which the two split. They also may draw from other mythological dualities. In Zoroastrianism there are two equally powerful deities that oppose each other, with Ahura Mazda representing light and truth (and therefor Reshiram) and Ahriman representing lies and darkness (and therefore Zekrom). Alchemy has the concept of two dragons, one black and one white, that oppose and yet complete each other. They are commonly depicted as a white, fluffy dragon with two wings and a black, scaly dragon with four limbs. Use of the elements that dragons represented was beleived to lead to the creation of a philosopher's stone, which may have inspired the stones the grasons are sealed in. The two stones may also draw from the Jewish concept of the Urim and Thummim, who were often depicted as black and white stones. Kyurem is the broken form of the original dragon that Zekrom and Reshiram split from and therefore represents Wuji, the absence of Yin and Yang. In some forms of Taoism, Wuji was the original state of the universe from which Yin and Yang sprung. It seeks to reunite with Reshiran and Zekrom to return to its original state, which, in the Taoist metaphor, would mean returning the universe to Wuji.
(Left image: the symbol of Yin and Yang: a circle divided into two segments, one whit and one black. A dot of the other color is in each color's half. Right image: art of the two dragons in alchemic mythology. They are depicted as two serpents, one white and with bird wings and one black with four legs, each biting the other's tail. End ID)
Victini is the Mew clone of gen V and it is themes around fire and victory. Physically, it represents the symbol of V for victory, with its hears making a V shape and it doing the V sign with one hand in its official art. It may also be based on Victoria, the Roman goddess of victory and triumph. Its fire typing also draws from the idea of the eternal flame, which symbolizes perseverance and victory. Victini is found in Liberty Garden, which is off the coast of Castelia City, which is based on New York City. This makes Liberty Garden the counterpart to Liberty Island, the home of the Statue of Liberty. Victini's fire typing likely represents the torch that the statue holds. Finally, Victini's rabbit-eared appearance comes from usagi-ringo, a technique of skinning apple slices to make them look like rabbit ears. This could be a shout-out to NYC's nickname of the Big Apple.
(Image: apple slices cut in usagi-ringo style. The skin of each slice has been cut so that a wedge is missing and the tips of the remaining skin rise into the air to look like rabbit ears. End ID)
Meloetta is also sort of a Mew clone. It has the small size and psychic typing down, as well as the 600 BST, but its stats are not all 100s like the other Mew clones. It is based on the nine Muses, a group of Greek Goddesses who acted as patrons for the arts and sciences. Accounts differ on which Muse patronized which art. Meloetta's Aria form represents song and would be associated with Euterpe and Polyhymnia while the Pirouette form's focus on dance would associate it with Polyhymnia and Terpsichore. Meloetta's hair looks like sheet music and its hands look like music notes. Aria form is based on a singer and has a structure that look's like a microphone headset. Pirouette form is based on a ballerina or flamenco dancer and appears to be wearing a tutu.
(Image: an artistic depiction of the nine Muses showing them as women dressed in robes carrying different objects related to their crafts. Sourced from worldhistory.org. End ID)
Genesect is based on giant, prehistoric bugs from the Carboniferous period. Its dex entries put it as being from 300 million years ago, which would be the tail end of the Carboniferous. Bugs could get much larger in the Carboniferous due to extremely high levels of oxygen in the atmosphere. Bugs don't actively breathe the way tetrapods do, they rely on oxygen entering the body through tiny holes in the exoskeleton called spiracles. The larger the spiracles, the more oxygen the bug can get, but the weaker the exoskeleton becomes. In the Carboniferous, oxygen levels were high enough to have giant bugs without needing to make their spiracles so big they would compromise the body's integrity. Ironically, despite being based on the largest bugs in geologic history, there are many modern bug Pokemon that are larger than Genesect. Genesect being a resurrected extinct species is likely a reference to Jurassic Park. The cyborg elements are shout outs to science-fiction stories where animals are weaponized.
Image: a photo of two men standing next to a life-sized model of Arthropleura, an over 8-feet long millipede from the Carboniferous period. end ID)

An unprecedented female monarch in her dynasty, Rudrama Devi (r.1262-1289) presided over an age of prosperity. A successful warrior queen, she triumphed over both internal and external threats.
Her father’s heir
Rudrama Devi was the daughter of King Ganapati Deva (r.1199-1262) of the Kakatiya dynasty, who ruled over parts of present-day Telangana and Andhra Pradesh in Southern India. Their capital was located at Orugallu (Warangal).
Ganapati Deva was a successful monarch. His kingdom was famed for its’ diamonds and beautiful fabrics. He had no son to succeed him and his older daughter was already married. He thus decided to make his younger daughter Rudrama Devi his heir and gave her the requisite training.
A female monarch would nonetheless be a in vulnerable position and see her legitimacy questioned. To make female rule more acceptable, he arranged a Putrikayagna ceremony for his daughter. This religious rite allowed a sonless man to declare his daughter or his daughter’s son as his son. After that, Rudrama Devi was also known by the masculine name of Rudra Deva. She also attended all public meetings in masculine attire.
Her story is similar in that regard to that of her near-contemporary, Raziya Sultan of Delhi.
A warrior among warriors
In 1259, Rudrama Devi became her father’s co-ruler and assumed sole rule in 1262. She married the Chalukya prince Virabdhadra, who played no part in her administration, and with whom she had three daughters.
Rudrama Devi faced many threats at once. Her neighbors saw an opportunity to conquer her kingdom and her feudatory noblemen couldn’t stand being ruled by a woman.
She stood her ground and prevailed, proving her might as a warrior queen. Many of her nobles rebelled, but she successfully defeated them. The Seuna Yadava king, Mahadeva, invaded her territories and reached her capital. Rudrama Devi chased him after 15 days of fighting and forced them to pay a heavy tribute in money and horses.
To commemorate her victory, she styled herself “Rayagajakesari” or “the lion who rules over the elephant kings”. In the pavilion she built, she was depicted as a warrior mounted on a lion, holding a sword and a shield, with an elephant trunk holding up a lotus to her in sign of submission.
In 1262, another of her neighbors occupied the Vengi region. She was able to recover it after 12 years of fighting. She was nonetheless unsuccessful in fending off the attacks of her southern rival Ambadeva.
Meritocratic policies
Rudrama Devi completed the construction of the nearly impregnable Warangal Fort. She bought large tracts of land under cultivation, increasing her kingdom’s revenue. She also recruited non-aristocratic warriors from diverse castes. Only 17 percent of her subordinates were of noble background. Prominent commanders could receive lands and become feudatory nobles. She thus established a new warrior class. Since the nobility had rejected her rule, this meritocratic policy allowed her to surround herself with loyal retainers.
Marco Polo, who mistook her for a widow of the previous king, wrote about her very flattering terms, calling her a “lady of much discretion” and a “lover of justice, of equity and of peace”.
A warrior to the end
At the end of her reign, she chose her grandson, Prataparudra, as her heir.
Rudrama Devi likely died in 1289 (though some sources date her death from 1295) according to an inscription made by a member of her army commemorating her recent death and that of her army chief. The cause and location of her death are unknown. She likely died facing Ambadeva's armies, leading her troops as she had always done.

FFXV Writing Prompt
"Our magic was never supposed to be bound to the Draconian."
That comment from the spirit who haunts this room causes Prince Regis to pause. He has been able to see spirits since he was a kid. This spirit, an old ancestor, has been chained to this room since he was killed in this room. The place where the Crystal used to rest back in the Healer King's time. This spirit hasn't spoken in all the time he's known him, Regis has been keeping him company anyways, until now. (No, he doesn't use this ancient abandoned room to hide from everyone and everything.)
Regis blinks, slowly putting down his sandwich, "What?"
"We weren't supposed to be bound to the Draconian," the spirit repeats softly, body pinned by a trident to a nonexistent Crystal. Trapped to repeat the events of his death over and over again. Regis hates that he can't do anything about it.
The spirit continues, as he flickers to be standing again in the center of the room, defensively and protectively standing in front of someone whose no longer there, "We once belonged to Eos, our patron and progenitor. But the Draconian grew greedy when Eos went to sleep and angry when Ifrit was betrayed."
Another flicker. This time, the spirit in blue with forever sad eyes stands before Regis, chains appearing around him trying to drag him back to where the Crystal once hanged. His death wounds covering his body, slowly dripping to the floor.
"Obsessed with his prophecies, right?" Regis asks.
The spirit nods. "He would sooner see us all die than deviate from the single possible future he Sees, instead of considering the possibilities which is the reality of futures near and far. The exact opposite of what we are supposed to represent and be."
Regis doesn't comment about the the spirit's sudden talkativeness nor his silent anger hidden behind his sorrow filled eyes. For Regis feels the burning indignation, injustice, rage, and grief that has lasted for generations since Oracle betrayed the Healer and Mystic, the need for justice and wish for freedom clawing at the back of his mind even as he hides it behind steel walls as trained to him by his father.
"What do I need to do to stop it?" Is all Regis asks, staring down the spirit.
A smile, cold and angry, slides on the Mystic's face.

Can you tell me abt your Terrakion and Cobalion? Your Virizion is SOOOO cool!!
I'm so happy to hear you like my Virizion design! I have a bit of a soft spot for the swords of justice, and am happy I'm able to do them, well, justice!
Now, onto Terrakion and Cobalion!
As stated before in Virizion's post, the three Divine Justices are responsible for keeping peace and order between legendaries and their people. If a legend is failing their duty or abusing their position, it is they who deal with the offending legend.
Terrakion is a gruff yet warm soul, who can plow though any obstacle in his way. Known as the Unyielding Ram, it is he who defeated the rampaging Regirock and quelled its frenzy, saving many lives in the process and preventing the rock slides that surely would have followed in its wake. Of the three he is considered the most approachable, and is good friends with most other legends. He is particularly close with Landorus, who he shares a friendly rivalry with in tests of strength.
Cobalion, meanwhile, is calm and collected, seemingly unfeeling. When the regi trio went on their rampage, it was he who took on the daunting task of chasing down Regice, plunging through blizzards and tundras alike. Titled the Indomitable Wave, he is generally who the other two look to for guidance. Despite his preference for solitude, he is surprisingly close with both Terapagos and Articuno, the latter who he's known for many years.
Both are highly respected legends, and the three together are the ones many go to when trouble is brewing on the horizon. More recently they can be seen with Keldeo trailing along behind them, young and eager to learn.

Lawrence Fishburne as Regis is unexpectedly phenomenal casting - see his performances in Hannibal, the John Wick franchise, Othello (1995) (though his british accent could’ve been better), Contagion (2011), and on and on he’s always nailed a slick, intelligent, often condescending figure, but also a scorned outsider, a jaded romantic, and all the nuance and maturity that Regis really needs.
But also! Regis gains an insane amount of depth if you really invest in reframing him as a Black man - The deeper conversations to be had now about a person’s perceived predisposition to violence, stereotyped hypersexuality, alcoholism, social vs physical power, social isolation, ect are fascinating and essentially untouched by fandom/witcher media as of now because no one has ever had a reason to think of Regis as anything but white. I mean truly this opens up a whole new perspective on a deeply familiar character that could move us forward in how we analyze him for the first time since he debuted!
but do I think the Netflix show is going to try and do any of that? absolutely not. justice for TWN’s actors of color as always
#closing my eyes and daydreaming a world where twn took this seriously and gives fishburne something to work with#emiel regis#the witcher#twn#emiel regis rohellec terzieff godefroy#double shot
