I mean this gently but I have to say somethin' here-
I've been getting so much "make your skirts cheaper" "I love this but why are they soooo expensive" etc lately and like look, I know a lot of this is because times are hard.. (otherwise why would I be hearing this more & more this year when prices haven't changed compared to last year) but I just wanna say that one of the only ways I could lower prices (if I was ruthless and didn't care) would be to cut sizing options. Like idk how to word what I'm trying to say, but just know when you shout stuff like this at other brands & they decide they need to find a way to cut costs to lower prices, being size inclusive is gonna be one of the first things to go.
I have no plans to do this myself, but for example, a D Size Skater costs me almost twice as much (talking about only the direct from the manu cost, there are other factors too such as that they weigh more so that adds more shipping costs as well) as an A Size Skater. Say I cut D Size altogether.. and many companies would have by now while also not even lowering the price.. I could increase my profit margins significantly right away. Now lets say I cut both C and D and become a shop that only offers the standard range of SM-XL. Wow! Suddenly profits are up so much!! Or maybe going not full corporate greed, I could handle lowering skater prices by like $10 (random number not based on real math idk what things would actually work out to because I'm not gonna do it). But now no one over a size XL can order from me.
I fear none of what I'm trying to get across is getting across but I just mean to say, in order to offer what I offer, the prices need to be what they are. They aren't set arbitrarily high & lowering them would mean needing to make choices that I will not make (becoming less size inclusive or making my business unsustainable in the sense that it would not survive long).

Rereading Sunshine by Robin McKinley (one of my favourite vampire books). All I remember from reading it 10 years ago is the amount of page-time dedicated to baking cinnamon rolls. But I've realised, this time round, that the baking of cinnamon rolls is the symptom of a much larger theme in characterisation - Rae's ride-or-die commitment to the 'I'm just some guy' bit.
Every single chapter, another thing is revealed about Rae that puts her closer to being a special snowflake Chosen One: her name is Raven Blase but her nickname is Sunshine, she has sunlight powers, she's not just an innocent bystander but the daughter of a powerful warlock, she can help a vampire walk in sunlight, she's performing powerful magic. And every single time Rae just turns round and says to the reader, "but that's not important :) I'm just some guy :) I really like baking :) ignore that gothic heroine coding :) it's time to get up at 4am to make bread :)"
Her commitment to being Just Some Guy is genuinely carrying the novel. Every single day she becomes more of a Chosen One, but there's cinnamon rolls to make. Fucking D&D-ass characterisation. High art.

You know, it's a tragedy that there are no (or very little) Vampire x Christian stories out there, not for angst or theology or forbidden seductiveness or whatnot but for the sheer comedy of it all. I mean, the Christian would technically be immune to all of the vampire's shenanigans, like for example...
Vampire: Fool, I am the most powerful vampire in the West. Nothing but the force of an entire holy temple could even deign to scratch me
Christian: Idiot, I AM a holy temple. 1 Corinthians 6:19, fear me and the Spirit inside that can burn you to ashes

When romancing Astarion, a line I really, truly love is after defeating Cazador, after the act 3 spawn romance scene when you have the option to say to him, "I promise I'll keep you safe always. You'll never need the powers of an Ascendant."
And he replies, "It would be nice not to rely on you as my great protector, but... well, I do appreciate the thought."
It's just so very relatable.
Of course he doesn't want to put his life in others' hands. Even if that was his intent when he started out, to have someone to protect him from Cazador, that doesn't mean that's what he, Astarion, wanted. It was what he felt he needed.
And now that he has the space to actually consider what he wants, while he knows he wants Tav (the entire night before is about that), he also knows he wants to be capable, to be able to stand on his own and walk together as equals.
Ultimately, he knows that having Tav be his 'great protector' only takes away from that agency that he's just now able to exercise, takes away from the balance he's striving for.
That being said! He also accept Tav's sentiment, "I appreciate the thought."
Which actually super impressive to me?
Despite everything he's gone through, he has the strength to accept help (which is not easy to do, in my experience) and acknowledge that leaning on each other is part of their relationship.
He knows he wants Tav at his side and that it's a give-and-take. That it's nice to just know that someone has your back and will catch you if you stumble.
That one line, which doesn't even have any follow up dialogue, and, admittedly, I initially thought felt somewhat out of the blue, is such a nice way to show his growth and path forward.
