Regarding the latest post, I at least use "babygirl" as a gender neutral term (I actually use it only for grown hairy men tbh), and I think a lot of others do too :) Just wanted to mention that, but I also completely understand why it would make people uncomfy too! Also sorry to hear people haven't been going by the rules it always sucks when people don't respect boundaries :( Anyways have a great day!
I think the reason it makes me personally uncomfortable is that I exclusively see it used as a term for 'twinky' (and almost always popularly headcanoned as queer) men. "Why does Serizawa call you babygirl?" says Mob to Reigen Arataka, one time winner of the tumblr sexyman poll. It cannot be a gender neutral term if it's only used specifically to describe men.
For me it lends greatly into a research project I've been doing about how fandom treats trans and other 'visibly' queer men (not great, generally) and I personally have seen a lot of correlation between the term and more uncomfortable feminization of queer men
(Like, for a very common example, Gojo Satoru is, textually, in love in some manner with Suguru Geto. We see him say visibly- if not audibly- the words 'I love you' to Geto onscreen, after having earlier described love as being "a curse" to his student, Yuta.
I have also very commonly seen Gojo described as being a "princess", "babygirl", and it's for some reason common at least on tumblr to see him and Geto called each other's "girlfriends" and "wives". This is a correlation I see in fanart and posts about a lot of popular m/m ships)
I'm still far from comfortable actually releasing all the data and research for this project publicly since I think there are going to be a lot of hurt feelings if I don't figure out a way to approach this from an angle of understanding. I know it's common for people to tend to be reactionary about things that upset them, and while I get it, I don't think it's very proactive when you're trying to approach it from a more professional manner, if that makes sense.
I'm not trying to make anyone feel bad about trying to have fun on my silly little tournament, that's not what this blog is about. But I wish I didn't have to be resigned about wanting something I'm responsible for to be a safe space for me when I've worked very hard behind the scenes to ensure that it's one for all of you.
(Spoilers for seasons 1-2 of TMA) HAPPY NEW YEARS!!!!
I got hyperfixated on The Magnus Archives back in November and now I can finally post some fanart for it! Here's my season 1 and 2 dump. I have much more stuff for the later seasons, which I will be posting soon hopefully.
Enjoy my drawings of the Eye's special little boy!!!!!
gently pushes her to lay on her back and moves her hair out of her face as he softly monologues to her? HELLO?
"I'm not allowed to go home without him"- reminds me of when he tried to bargain for Katara's necklace in the "Waterbending Scroll" or their moment in the Crsytal Catacombs.....guess he just can't help sympathizing with her. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Was this really necessary? was it?
Did we really need a bollywood coded scene of katara's scarf flowing cinematically through Zuko's hands as he stares mesmerized for a few seconds and the music swells?
wait explain to me the destiel hatred i’m curious what abt it angers u that doesn’t apply to the other two ships
great question! the answer would unfortunately require 3 hours and a powerpoint presentation, so i will try to do a brief summary:
a ship sucking only ever has about 25% to do with the ship itself. destiel is bad in the sense that i think dean winchester is an annoying character that gets treated with kiddie gloves by the narrative, which makes him irritating to see on screen, because i personally dislike it when "men are angry and abusive because they just love too strongly, and don't know how to express it :(" is played straight as a character's primary internal conflict. especially over 15 seasons. it's boring, he's boring, and 35 year old men shouldn't be going to colleges trying to figure out which freshman girls are legal or not. hate him.
however the real sin of destiel, beyond the fact that dean winchester and i have beef that will only ever resolve when i get to reincarnate as the rusty nail that kills him, is that the fans are so so so fucking annoying. like yes the narrative frames dean as a golden boy who can either do no wrong, or "well, i guess he did wrong there, but what about how tortured he is :(" but good god. at least the show isn't trying to convince me that destiel is some groundbreaking lifechanging love story, complete with "omg this moment" montages where they romanticize scenes that feature dean either insulting, threatening, or humiliating cas. like this entire show (post season 5) is dean chronically either infantillizing and attempting to keep cas under his control, or holding him up as the only person he can rely on, thus giving cas expectations that are impossible to fulfill.
and don't get me wrong! people can like a shitty person and a fucked up ship. that's basically everything i enjoy on here. but at least like. acknowledge it. aldfkjalka. and if you're gonna like a shitty person and a fucked up ship, at least write about it in an interesting way. 90% of fic and posts written about destiel aren't even about destiel as presented in canon, they're about two generic men with generic personalities who suffer from the world's most generic tropey problems. cookie cutter ass basic relationship. the high school au of ships. boring.
hey man. i heard from someone that you dont like she/her v2 headcanons because they feel misogynistic to you, and i just want to say in the most respectful way possible (i genuinely mean no ill will or hate i promise. also i should clarify this ask is coming from A Woman) that your behaviour about that feels a little like, idk, making a mountain out of a molehill. except the molehill is just a she/her headcanon.
i do understand the genuine concern behind people heacanoning a "less violent, more peaceful" character with the she/her pronouns; but as far as ive seen no one headcanons v2 as a girl for those reasons, or even characterizes v2 like that at all. and v2 is canonically portrayed just as violently as v1 ? just because v2 is a security bot doesnt mean its more peaceful, its like calling the turrets from portal 2 harmless.
im not saying you have to accept a she/her v2 headcanon, im just saying i think you may need to reevaluate *why* you find a she/her headcanon to be so offensive. because i dont think misogyny is the reason.
I understand the concern and where you're coming from with this, but in the original post where I talk about being irritated by it, it's specifically referring to people who use she/her for v2 while using he/him for v1 at the same time. I tried to get that across but I guess I failed lmao. this is because i personally HAVE seen people woobify and soften v2 for the reason that it's a security bot, and the version of them that they make up in their heads, and while it's definitely not how the fandom views v2 at large, it Does happen, and just because you havent seen it doesnt mean that people aren't doing it, you know? im not trying to be a dick here but like. i dunno man. its a contextual discomfort, not a general hatred, and overall, im fine with she/her pronouns for v2 . i generally dont care if people think v2 is a girl or use she/her for it, but in some contexts it feels weird and i dont like it. thats literally all my problem with it is lmao
I did acknowledge in my head that maybe it irked me for a different reason [you know. potential internalized misogyny considering im a trans guy. acknowledge that you can be an asshole sometimes so you can improve etc etc whatever you know the drill], and came to the same conclusion: that I don't like it because it feels off to me, and not because I dislike the idea of v2 being a girl or using she/her pronouns. you asked me to reevaluate why it makes me uncomfortable, but i already did that before i even talked about it publicly
as for the making a mountain out of a molehill thing, i can also definitely see that, but it . wasnt supposed to be a mountain. i generally use my blog as like. a thinking out loud thing more than a um. Fighting The Good Fight Against Those Disgusting Morally Corrupt Tumblr Users and it wasn't supposed to be a big deal. which is why i turned off reblogs. on thepost where i talk about it !
i may not be a girl anymore, but i used to be one and most people still perceive me as one in real life. i have experienced, and continue to experience misogyny, so my occasional discomfort with those headcanons is actually coming from somewhere and isn't just me trying to find something to get pissed off about
believe me or dont, its up to you, but i can promise the reason isnt because i hate women
If any of you ever wonder 'How the hell does she keep coming up with weird new ways to torture and inflict pain in these Gil'ead/flashback fics?! Does she just sit around thinking of horrific things done to the body and how it could be applied?!'
Well...
Yes.
Yes I do.
I literally lay there on my bed and think these things up. Or in the shower. Or while driving. Or at work. I literally set aside chunks of time for this pondering and then spend a little time on the side checking if what I come up with is feasible with or without magic.
It's a pastime. A hobby. It is interesting and requires me to use my brain in new and intriguing ways. It can combine biology, physiology, psychology, history, chemistry, and physics all in one. It pushes the boundary of my imagination and application of a variety of knowledge from a variety of sources.
Note that I do not condone torture, and think its use is horrific, abhorrent and, in a perfect world, all forms of it would never be used. Throughout my research into torture through history and the present, and the aftereffects of it on the body and the mind, it's abundantly clear that torture is above all else horrible and beyond wrong.
If you’re putting characters in an environment wildly different than what we’re used to you’d better be putting your back into it.
Like your telling me Bucky Barnes went to the water park? No he didn’t. Your lying. Sherlock is at the rainforest cafe? Fine, convince me. Hannibal and Will go to Disneyland? Fucking prove it. Write bitch.
