I've seen a few posts about women and pants now and many of them are very good, and not to nitpick those posts or downplay religious sexism or anything, but I have to emphasise:

Somebody who DOESN'T live in a controlling religious country/cult/family is also affected by sexism. We all know that, right? Secular parts of the first world also have opinions about how women dress, including when it comes to trousers, especially in childhood and in institutions like schools and the workplace

Me and many people my age (20s) remember being forced into skirts, punished and shamed by parents & teachers & peers & possibly then bosses about what we wear not being feminine enough, and it wasn't by deeply religious sects. Many updates to dress codes are very new and sexist views are still in place in many institutions. Normalised societal misogyny wants women (and people they want to treat as women) to dress femininely, down to what KIND of pants they're allowed to wear (compare a pink top and jeggings to mens jeans and tell me these two women are treated the same. Hating women in pantsuits is still a sexist office joke today, and even those outfits are feminine compared to male suits, which raise eyebrows when worn by women). The women I know who wear trousers regularly are literally otherwise feminine, and all wear dresses to events.

I know trousers have become much more normalised over the past few decades in secular society (yay!! the result of many many years of effort and lawbreaking) but let's not be absolute when we talk about the pants concept lol. Especially within a larger conversation about female/transmasc/intersex/transfem masculinity and social perceptions, especially in an age of rising fascism

I mean this gently but I have to say somethin' here- I've been getting so much "make your skirts cheaper" "I love this but why are they soooo expensive" etc lately and like look, I know a lot of this is because times are hard.. (otherwise why would I be hearing this more & more this year when prices haven't changed compared to last year) but I just wanna say that one of the only ways I could lower prices (if I was ruthless and didn't care) would be to cut sizing options. Like idk how to word what I'm trying to say, but just know when you shout stuff like this at other brands & they decide they need to find a way to cut costs to lower prices, being size inclusive is gonna be one of the first things to go. I have no plans to do this myself, but for example, a D Size Skater costs me almost twice as much (talking about only the direct from the manu cost, there are other factors too such as that they weigh more so that adds more shipping costs as well) as an A Size Skater. Say I cut D Size altogether.. and many companies would have by now while also not even lowering the price.. I could increase my profit margins significantly right away. Now lets say I cut both C and D and become a shop that only offers the standard range of SM-XL. Wow! Suddenly profits are up so much!! Or maybe going not full corporate greed, I could handle lowering skater prices by like $10 (random number not based on real math idk what things would actually work out to because I'm not gonna do it). But now no one over a size XL can order from me. I fear none of what I'm trying to get across is getting across but I just mean to say, in order to offer what I offer, the prices need to be what they are. They aren't set arbitrarily high & lowering them would mean needing to make choices that I will not make (becoming less size inclusive or making my business unsustainable in the sense that it would not survive long).

i can't say definitively forever, but for now the cathedral skirt will only be available on midi skirts. we are not making miniskirts for 2025 and the proportions of a maxi skirt are completely different from the midi skirts and the cathedral art was designed specifically to work with the proportions of a midi skirt. it just wouldn't look as good on a maxi. (also, the only maxi skirts i make are collabs with @freshhotflavors and are sold in their store and they use FHF's templates, which are significantly different from ours)

i would have to redo a significant amount of art to make it work on a differently proportioned skirt.

plus, if i'm being completely honest, i do not want to format this design on other skirt lengths.

and it’s not just the art that took a long time—in order to make this design as seamless as possible, i have to have a total number of panels that is divisible by 3. for the smaller sizes, that isn’t so bad, because i can put 6 panels on each skirt half for a total of 12. but that doesn’t work correctly on the larger sizes, so for those i have to do 7.5 panels per skirt half for a total of 15 on the skirt and then i have to do my best to align one of the art panels so it matches up over the side seam.

after i finished the art, getting these skirt templates laid out in all sizes took me an entire week and many failed attempts at doing geometry. none of the skirt halves have the same curvature and none of them are actually circular in nature. they are very weird shapes and the upper arc of the waistband and the lower arc of the bottom hem are not the same.

i actually cried like three times trying to calculate the angles of the side seams before i realized that the waistband and hemline are not perfect circular arcs so getting the angles wouldn't help.

i ended up having to manually make my own measuring system by hand to work off.

i am never doing this again it was so much work and i think the final product will be worth it but god was this harrowing.
