everyone experiences a time loop in their life. the duration varies, from person to person, loop to loop — the length of the loop window itself, and the times it, well, loops. the shortest window on record was a ten minute loop (the woman who experienced that nearly went mad, repeating those minutes for months) and the longest loop window was two years.

there are people, too, it’s said, who barely even know they were in a loop: two or three times, and a sense of deja vu.

but everyone knows that it must have been there loop, that moment, that feeling; because everyone experiences a loop, one way or another.

statistically, it’s most likely you’ll experience your loop sometime between the ages of 18 to 45. it’s rare that the loop happens before someone reaches puberty but not unheard of: only three in the whole of record history, though scholars allow there could be more that weren’t reported, not noticed.

the oldest recorded looper was a 92, and lived two weeks for five years. he died a few days later.

there are lots of theories about the loops, whole schools of thought devoted to why humans experience time like this, once in their lives. people spend their whole lives studying it, hoping maybe they’ll spend their own loop looking at it (though of course what you build in your loop is always left behind). books are written, movies are made, time loops romanticized and made more beautiful than they are.

because here is the thing: the point of the time loop isn’t to save or prevent something: it’s to embrace the things we cannot change.

As another lesbian European who went to school with straight boys who jokingly made out in the hallways, slapped each other’s asses and pretended to give each other blow jobs in English class I want to add that while I absolutely agree that none of the grid really reads queer to me (and especially the whole Leclerc family), they are in fact just another example of freaky male Europeans, there’s also the fact that statistically speaking there’s a shit ton of queer people on this planet so like I wouldn’t be that surprised either if some of the drivers turned out to be not straight considering the whole dynamics of the sport lol

Oh yeah absolutely I think the power of statistics is on our side!!! (our = the queers. the gays. the alphabet people) I think some of it is cultural but also, really, men's sport as a whole is just SUCH a homosocial environment, if you'd allow me the term. Shipping aside I'm always thinking about this quote and just, like, the sociology of men's sport in general. Even in cultural spaces that are WAY more "no homo" than Monaco-based racing driver circles, men's sports are just... so physical and so male-centred and so primed for highly emotional moments and 'us against the world, you're my only one' kinda vibes.

Again, some of it is the european-ness but I'd be curious to know whether the people who get legit gay vibes from Lando or Charles are familiar with sportballs kinda dynamics and if they get gay vibes from that too. It is generally kind of disheartening to try and have any sort of conversation about race on this website that leaves room for actual emotion instead of, like, an explicit, straightforward explanation of a concept intended for white audiences to listen and learn from. Even those conversations are hard. I guess it’s because tumblr has a predominantly white userbase but seeing themes of race, culture, disconnection, and assimilation go over so many peoples heads or be confidently misinterpreted as themes of gender, sexuality, or neurodivergence over and over can feel really isolating and discouraging. I get that a lot of people just don’t have the personal experience to connect to those themes, but failing to recognize that they exist in a work entirely makes me kind of sad as a creator, and is a lot of the reason I don’t post on here so much anymore

I get the appeal of the acid bath turning Joker kinda metahuman-adjacent, giving him abnormal durability, I really do. It's a good explanation for his insane plot armor. HOWEVER... I just think it's objectively so much funnier if the acid bath only affected him on a surface level, i.e., his skin, and has nothing to do with him surviving so many lethal situations. It's so much funnier to me if he just has like, INSANE luck when it comes to death. Like he keeps putting himself in these horribly dangerous situations but god just will NOT let him die.

All my life I've been told by all kinds of people that they can never really tell what I'm feeling or what's going through my mind because apparently I'm always just hiding everything behind a smile so that I've become rather unreadable. And then he just. Takes one look at me and goes 'Yeah. I know that face, oh here we go again, she's about to unleash her thoughts. She's gonna bash that theory I just showed her so hard.
