one thing i need 911 to do once buck and eddie officially get together is make their first fight as a couple be about the fact that buck is saved on eddie’s phone as “Buck Work” meanwhile buck has him saved as “eddie 💖🫦👨🏻❤️💋👨🏼💋🫶🏻🥰” and when buck finds out he tries to crash the car while driving them both to work
#i keep seeing that screenshot of buck having tommy saved as BUCK which. 1 is hilarious and 2 is probably just a mistake#but it made me wonder like hmmmm how did they save each other on their phones#and obviously eddie has him saved as Buck Work. no picture no emoji no nothing#while buck would have the corniest string of emojis next to eddies name and the picture would be some candid pic he took of him#AND I KNOWW i know buck would get mad asf at eddies contact for him. he'd go I am your son's legal guardian. does that mean nothing to you.#alice talks#911 abc#evan buckley#eddie diaz#buddie

i know we all joke about buck and eddie and their coparenting of chris, them babytrapping each other and this that and the other, but they've never had 2 navigate their relationship without chris being central to it. which on the one hand is like. cute. chris is such a cornerstone of what buck and eddie both mean to each other, and they both obviously love him separate from their relationship with each other ('do you know how much christopher misses you?'), but also it's genuinely interesting to think about them navigating what that relationship looks like without christopher around. partly because i think sometimes they use chris as shorthand or an excuse between them ('do you know how much christopher misses you?' but bass boosted). eddie defines buck's role in chris's life on paper, bc he can't define buck's role in eddie's life. how much they both love chris is obvious and it's a safe place for how they feel about each other to land. and it's interesting 2 think about them being put in a position to navigate that relationship without the buffer or go-between of christopher for the first time since they met
#buddie#tis the season of taking a second look at your relationship w/ your bff in the light of new circumstances#its just one of the circumstances is 'u have a boyfriend' and the other is 'son ran away bc u had a thing w/ a doppelganger of his dead mom#eddie im sorry but sometimes your life sucks

steddie semi-meet cute where adult star steve (whos attempting a record-breaking gangbang) falls for a mystery man (eddie) who takes him from behind and babbles (endearingly) in his ear nonstop until he finishes and is shuffled out. the only problem: steve never saw him—never got his name!
so steve does the only logical thing and gets a list of the participants from the producers and tracks them down, hoping to find the man he’s fallen for. when he gets to the last name on the list—wayne munson in forest hills trailer park.
steve’s disappointed when an older man—with a voice that’s clearly not his guys—answers the door and says he’s the only wayne munson living there. seeing steve’s despair, wayne invites him in for a drink and sets steve down at the kitchen table with a hot cup of coffee (with a healthy splash of bourbon) and a slice of chocolate cake and asks what brought steve to his door.
steve isn’t ashamed of his job, but he also is very aware of being alone in an unfamiliar home with a man he doesn’t know, so he glosses over the fine details and tells wayne that he’s an actor and he fell in love with an extra on scene and was trying to find him.
steve finds that talking to wayne is easy, and between the chocolate and the hot drink and a sympathetic ear, he starts to feel a bit better. he doesn’t know why someone used wayne’s name and address, but he’s glad his path crossed with waynes none the less.
wayne might not have answers to who his mystery guy is, but he’s a great listener and offers great advice.
when steve hears a car pull up outside, he regrets that their conversation must be coming to an end.
“don’t you worry about that,” wayne says, waving him off when steve tries to make his excuses. “that’s just my boy; he’s supposed to cook for me tonight. you should stay for dinner. he makes a mean lasagna.”
before steve can protest further, the front door opens and all ideas of leaving are gone. because the guy walking in looks like steves wet dreams—like the kind of guy he used to dream about skipping class with so he could rail steve over the picnic table in the woods behind the school.
wayne’s nephew has his hands full—bags of groceries hanging from both arms, a dish in hand that steve assumes is the lasagna, and an orange cat yowling at his heels while he apologizes to his uncle for being late.
steve’s so caught up in looking at eddie that he barely registers wayne explaining steve’s presence there.
when eddie turns to look at him, steve can tell eddie feels the same way about steve—that instant connection.
feeling confident, steve steps forward and offers his hand.
“i’m steve,” he says with his prettiest smile.
“i’m eddie. i think we’ve met before.”

manifesting a s7 bi buck confirmation where the 118 are on a call and the victim/their friend/Random Civilian is getting annoyed makes a comment aimed at buck & eddie about "straight white men" and they both look offended then eddie says "do I look white???" and buck's like "do I look straight???"
how the others react (if at all) is tbc at this stage
i'm a sucker for inappropriate whisper arguments in the Absolute Worst of Situations so now all i'm seeing is eddie whipping around to buck when he says it with the widest doe eyes any human being has ever achieved and oblivious little buck waving the vic/friend/civilian off like "it's fine, could happen to anyone, you know" and then eddie's like "uh, yeah, it did, you're not straight?" and then it's like for the GA oh no are they going to do a kind of internalised homophobia arc for eddie where he re-examines his entire friendship with buck after finding out he likes men and yes he is going to re-examine his entire friendship with buck after finding out he likes men but it'll be the opposite of internalised homophobia (externalised homoeroticism)
#sami answers#very attached to their little whisper argument ive created in my head as hen and chim try to treat the patient#eddie: you're not straight?#buck: no??#eddie: since when?#buck: since always eddie? i know you know how gay people work#eddie: but. natalia? taylor? ali? abby? oh my god you weren't like punishing yourself for being gay with them were you?#buck: no wtf eddie. you were there when i was explaining bisexuality to chris the other day. when i came out to him u know#eddie: im pretty sure id remember you coming out to my son buck#buck: why are you being so weird about this#eddie: because im your best friend!#buck: what and it's freaking you out that i like men?#eddie: NO! i'm freaked out that i didn't know. did you not think you could tell me 🥺#buck: I THOUGHT YOU KNEW#and bobby's just live slugging it over in the corner like 'should i intervene or are they going to come to some realisations rn'

Death Waits For No One… Except Eddie Munson
Warning: Temporary Character Death
Could be read as Part 2 of This Post
Enjoy!
~*~*~*~
Eddie dies. He knew it was coming, felt it as soon as he’d stepped foot into the sordid little town as a puny and pale eleven year old. There was a grim acceptance that he wouldn’t survive long enough to leave. He spent his years being as authentic and genuine as possible; loud, eccentric, world-devastatingly handsome with awesome hair, and completely and utterly metal.
He spent his adolescence in Hawkins being true to himself, being someone that he could be proud of. However, there was always an undercurrent of danger. Being different in a small town where everyone else is the same is a hazard and Eddie wondered things everyday.
Would this be the day it ends?
Would Hargrove, Hagan, or any other small minded jock choose today to bash his head in?
Would the cops make an example of the weird “devil-worshipping”, rock n’ roll, high school fiend today?
Sometimes death was the cost of being different and he had accepted that.
Eddie, and unfortunately Wayne, had seen it coming for years and were not so eagerly awaiting his demise. Whether it be a beating from a bully gone too far, an overdose like his Ma, or a fiery crash, they lived each day in tentative hope that he’d escape death’s clutches once again. Neither one of them expected him to die in a haunted parallel universe in pain, cold and alone, with blood in his mouth and holes bitten through his flesh.
Eddie watched Dustin grieve him through teary eyes as the cold set in, warm blood leaking from his wounds and a numbness settling in his bones. He distantly heard Steve screaming for the both of them and maybe even the uncoordinated footfalls from Robin as she ran towards them. He tried to hang on, gripping the last dredges of life with both hands. Eventually though, his eyes closed with the weight of the world and his heart sluggishly slowed its beat.
The last thing he saw before his eyes were forced closed was Steve shoving a crying Dustin aside with determined eyes and a frown on his face. He felt a vague pressure center in his chest before everything faded to black.
Death wasn’t the peace or nothingness that he expected. It wasn’t bright lights or past memories flashing in front of your eyes. He was conscious, worriedly wondering if his friends had made it home from the Upside Down and how Wayne would take the news, if the Party could even tell him anything.
His death was a nightmare to him, everything he hated; darkness, silence, and too much time to ruminate on his thoughts. There was nothing to see and his feet were getting cold in an inch or so of standing water. Wonderful. The only noise he could hear was the blood from his deepest wounds dripping to the water at his feet.
He didn’t know how long he was there. Standing there, admittedly freaking out more than a little bit, and doing nothing could’ve taken three minutes or thirty years.
But when he opened his eyes again after a slow blink, he was back in the Upside Down next to his trailer. His wounds still throbbed with each heartbeat and he could feel the stickiness of blood clinging to his war outfit. Upon further surveillance, he noticed his favorite necklace with his mother’s old guitar pick was missing. Those fucking bats probably ate it. He considered rifling through the rotting carcasses surrounding him before letting out a sigh. He didn’t have the energy to perform necropsies.
The next thing that made itself known was the heat. Eddie remembered the Upside Down being cold, a strange mixture of humid and frigid. But now, the air was practically sizzling with heat and it made the stickiness of blood even more unbearable.
It wouldn’t stop Eddie though. He was apparently still alive after facing death once more. If anything could be said about Eddie, it was that he was a survivor. So, he pulled himself up despite his agony and set out on the trek of a lifetime. He climbed through the gate in his trailer, ignoring the cooking of his flesh and the pain accompanying the burns. He flopped onto the unforgiving carpet of his trailer that he really should’ve cleaned when Wayne told him to. Then he went to Steve’s because if anyone could help him, it was him.
He didn’t expect the town to be in chaos or the rippling chasms of fire that lengthened his walk.
He hid in trees when cars passed him but no one paid him any mind. Everyone was too apt to get out of town than they were to pay the walking zombie (so he supposed) any mind.
Eddie walked until he was standing over a sleeping Steve in his room in the Harrington house. He wasn’t sleeping peacefully and Eddie could imagine why.
“Hey, Harrington. Wake up, it’s okay. You’re dreaming.”
Steve jerked awake and started screaming his fool head off. Eddie stumbled back in surprise and hissed as the movement pulled at the worst of his wounds.
“Shh! Harrington, Jesus H. Christ, calm down. Holy shit, I thought you’d be the calm one. Calm down, please god,” Eddie breathed through the pain and calmed him. He probably looked like shit so he understood Steve’s fright. A small part of him, his inflated ego probably, took offense though he wouldn’t voice it.
“Eddie?” Steve’s voice was tinged with disbelief as if he couldn’t believe what his eyes were seeing.
He beamed, “I see we’re on a first name basis now, Stevie. If I knew this was all I had to do, I would’ve died a long time ago!”
Steve threw himself forward into Eddie’s arms with a soft gasp of pain and Eddie let out an oomph of surprise and pain in response.
“You’re not going to be here in the morning, are you?” Steve whispered into the crook of his neck.
Eddie’s shaky hand latched onto Steve’s shoulder to deepen the hug. “Hell Steve, I’ll never leave you again if you’ll have me.”
Steve fell asleep on top of him in what appeared to be his first restful slumber in weeks. Eddie wasn’t going to ruin that. Instead of treating his wounds or showering Upside Down grime and dried blood off, he ran a hand through Steve’s hair and closed his eyes. It would all be there in the morning, after all. What could a little shut-eye hurt?

I can see the show addressing the whole father and sons of it all with Ramon and Eddie and Chris especially after 8x04 and the convo he had with the cheerleaders father and that’s good that’s great if they address it well but I think the Helena of it all is going to haunt me forever if it’s not touched on with the comments “don’t drag him down with you” and the way she’s so happy to have Chris as a do-over and how she was the present parent and the role she plays in the Diaz family dynamic and just how both his parents have fucked him up and how Eddie only really sees his dad as the messed up one
#and this isn’t to excuse Ramon or say one of the Diaz parents is worse than the other or anything like that#but just that there’s such a focus in the show on Ramon and how I can see it being addressed but them skimming past Helena’s role in#Eddie’s life and how she’s had just as much impact on him etc#bc if you made me choose which of his parents I could have him confront it’s not Ramon#bc of the whole sonhusband person there taking the misplaced resentment digging comments regretting/resenting her own life and projecting#that onto Eddie and how that’s all so insidious in how it’s seeped into the shape of Eddie’s life#and how she wants Chris as a replacement for all she messed up with Eddie and how Eddie doesn’t meet the expectations she and Ramon had#and how it’s easier for Eddie to identify his issues with his dad and confront them bc of the whole fathers and sons of it all blame the#absent parent over the present one etc but ugh the Helena of it all haunts me#and just ugh maybe I need to write a fic that explores this bc I don’t see the show doing it but god do I think about it often#noah watches 9-1-1

Eddie’s arc gonna be so so so good this season
The Chris stuff is going to hurt so bad and break me but healing is coming for them both and I’m expecting a Chris-tmas episode reunion of father and son
#Eddie needs this time apart#and actually so does Chris - I think he’s going to realise how good he is it with his dad - how loved and supported he is#and how much space and freedom he’s been given to become who he wants to be#because I think he’s going to find Helena and Ramon stifling and controlling and smothered#and that will be good for him - we don’t realise (especially as a child) how good things are - even when they seem to be awful - until they#are taken away#and Chris made this choice so he is going to learn his actions have consequences- and they’re not always good ones#(Chris has every right to feel hurt etc by his dads actions I’m not taking away from that)#I’m obessed with how Chris running away to his grandparent is like Eddie running away to war - already a bit broken by loss (of childhood#for Eddie and of a parent for Chris) running away will break him more but healing comes in the aftermath#and after the war Eddie and Chris became even stronger and a father son unit so I expect Chris’s return to do the same thing#make them stronger than before#because Eddie is a great dad#the diaz boys paralleling each other is just so interesting and good#I’m incoherent over it actually#911 spoilers#eddie diaz#christopher diaz#911 abc

snippet sunday ⛈
this is WAY more than seven sentences but sometimes i just can't be bothered to count, especially after the day i had okay
but please enjoy hoa eddie being an absolute fuckin menace
“Actually, Mr. Diaz,” Henry starts, and it’s the tone of his voice, snarky and superior and fuck, Eddie’s encountered enough people in his life with this attitude to know he’s not the one, spent enough time in detention at school to know he’s not the one, but he spins around, anyway, because he’s a glutton, “you have to pay ten dollars for every person that spends the night.” “Huh?” “Yes,” Henry plows on, as if he’s clarified something. Eddie’s just as lost now as he was two seconds ago. “Your friend—Buck, I think. You have to pay ten dollars for every guest that stays over.” That’s stupid. Like, his son is a popular kid, right, and he’s got loads of friends—more than Eddie ever had at that age but hey, his kid is fucking amazing—and now that he has a larger house with an even larger backyard, he knows there’s going to be weekends where his place is full of teenagers. He’s not paying ten dollars a head for Christopher’s friends. Besides, Buck has his own room at the house. That has to count for something. “He’s not a guest. My home is his home, too.” Henry shrugs. “I don’t make the rules,” he says, and Eddie’s pretty sure that’s a lie since his photo is hanging up on the wall behind his chair. “Unless they’re part of the household or a partner, you have—” “He is.” “Excuse me?” An idea forms in the front of Eddie’s brain, one his sister’s would be laughing over since they’ve always had a way of reading his mind, and says, “He is. Buck, I mean. He’s my partner.” “Romantic?” Eddie makes a noise. “Does it matter?” He snorts a laugh, one that hurts his throat, and shoves his hand through his hair because he has got to get himself under control. What the fuck is he doing? “He’s my—my Buck. He’s mine.” “Oh.” Henry taps his fingers against the desk. “I didn’t know that.” “Yeah, well, it’s none of your business,” Eddie bites, a little meaner than he ought to be, but he can’t be blamed. Buck and Chris are waiting at home for him with dinner and dessert, and he’s here, haggling with a stranger over the special place Buck holds in his heart, and Buck’s worth ten dollars, worth ten gazillion dollars, more, yeah, but it’s the principle of the thing. “Now, I’m going home to him and my son. I’ll see you later, Harley.” He snatches a pamphlet off the desk, turns around, again, and makes his way out of the office, ignoring the flustered call of, “My name’s Henry, actually!” because he’s tired, worked a 12 hour shift without his normal team because he owed a favor to the rookie on B shift, and he wants to go home, needs to go home to relax and decompress and eat some fucking cake, and this little club isn’t going to ruin another one of his nights.

The demon (marauders brainrot) in me is creating temptations beyond the flesh (compelling me to write a multichap about Wayne Munson & Eddie’s mum growing up) that are unshakeable and deadly (there is no target audience for this bullshit)

I’m gonna have to name this little AU if I keep going, but I have no idea what I’d call it. Suggestions? Part three of these posts. AO3 link!
Part 4
*
“Okayokayokayokay,” Steve said, half way through their second shared bottle of vodka, “I gotta know, if this’d happened, like, two years ago, would this have happened?”
Billy squinted at him, the cogs in his head almost visible as he tried to make Steve’s question make sense. Eddie and Tommy however seemed to latch right onto the meaning behind his slightly slurred words.
“Noooooo.” Eddie declared with a shake of his head and a wave of his hands, “Nope. Woulda ended bloody ten minutes in. Tops.”
“The hell are we talking about?” Billy asked, rather than continuing to try to puzzle it out.
“This,” Tommy gestured to the group at large, “Us. Could we have all hung out in the same space like this.”
“That is not what he asked.” Billy muttered.
“It’s what he meant.” Tommy shrugged, laying back against the floor.
“Yeah!” Steve agreed, “What’dya think Bills?”
“First, don’t call me that.” Billy’s glare wasn’t half as intimidating with his cheeks all rosy like that, “Second, no way. I couldn’t stand any of you back then. Munson gets a pass, cause he had the hook up.”
Eddie pumped his fist in the air and Tommy made a wounded little noise of derision.
“What? Why didn’t you like us!” He rolled so he was facing the group again, though still laying as comfortably as he could.
“Is that a real question?” Billy cocked a brow.
“Yes!”
“Because you were assholes.” Billy said as if it were obvious.
Tommy threw his hands into the air in exasperation and turned to Steve, gesturing emphatically, the pinching of his eyebrows saying everything his mouth wasn’t.
“Uh, Billy, you were also kind of an asshole.” Steve replied for Tommy since he was too worked up to get the words out without his voice cracking like a middle schooler’s.
“I had a reason to be.” Billy shot back, his expression crumbling into irritated resignation almost the moment the words left his lips.
Tommy scoffed, and Steve knew the next words out of his mouth would be the kind that started fights and that was the last thing they needed at the moment. He moved without thinking, slapping a hand over Tommy’s mouth to both their surprise.
But in for a penny, in for a pound.
“You haven’t gotten the time to develop a ‘don’t be a bitch’ filter yet, so I’m going to do it for you, just this once.” Steve said, leaning in so he didn’t have to speak at full volume, “Before you say anything I want you to think about if it’s going to get you punched in the nose or not. If the answer is ‘yes’ pick something else.”
Tommy glared at him, and licked the inside of his palm. The sensation had Steve pulling his hand back only to wipe it off on Tommy’s already ruined polo.
“You’re so gross! Have you seen the shit I’ve killed today? You’re gonna catch turbo-AIDS.”
Eddie snorted, earning himself a shove from Steve.
“Thanks, Steve.” Tommy pointedly flicked his attention back to Billy who was watching the whole thing while sipping a can of coke he’d pulled from the six pack nearby, “What makes you think we didn’t also have reasons to be assholes?”
Billy scoffed, glancing at Steve for a moment before he seemed to reconsider whatever he was thinking.
“Guess I don’t know, Tommy. What was your reasoning?” He pulled his legs up so he was hugging his arms around his shins, still holding the coke by his fingertips, “Can’t think of much a rich kid with two functional parents and plenty of friends could really be that upset about.”
Eddie made a noise somewhere between agreement and comradery, but otherwise kept surprisingly quiet.
Steve squeezed Tommy’s arm from where he’d left it after wiping his hand on him. Tommy’s self control was usually dubious at best, but his self control in regards to saying some genuinely hurtful shit was virtually non-existent. Or at least it had been the last time Steve had spent any meaningful time with him.
So he was surprised when Tommy took a breath and seemed to follow Steve’s advice about thinking before he spoke.
“Probably isn’t as good as your’s, whatever the fuck that is.” Tommy shrugged, “But that’s why. Growing up that way, that’s what people think you’re supposed to be like. You’ve got everything, you’re supposed to flaunt it. Everyone likes you, you’re supposed to act like it. You’ve got people who care, then you’re supposed to be happy.”
Tommy’s face was carefully blank, the same that he used when he was being more of an asshole than he had to be and didn’t want to feel it. The one that Steve had seen every time someone told him how much of a dick he was somewhere someone else might overhear it if he ever said ‘I’m sorry.’
“Just how it is. Fighting it gets you thrown out with the losers, and the losers hate you because you were an asshole. Steve here knows all about that. Sucked, didn’t it?”
Steve met Tommy’s stare, pursing his lips as he nodded.
“Yeah. Got better eventually. But yeah.”
“See, I’m not like Steve. I’m not a good person deep down, and I’d much rather be comfortable than do the right thing or whatever. Especially if doing the right thing still lands you here.”
He gestured to the room at large, illustrating how they were all more or less trapped together.
For a moment they were all quiet, Tommy’s words seeming heavier and heavier with each passing moment. Steve was about to change the subject, just to dispel some of the awkwardness that had coagulated around them but Billy beat him to it.
“I’m not either.” His voice was hushed, which was just as weird as hearing Tommy being quiet, “A good person. I’m not. Could have done a million other things, didn’t. It’s easier to just….let it all happen.”
Steve was sure he’d never heard Billy volunteer information like that. Despite having fallen into frequent proximity months ago, he still felt like he barely knew the guy. He knew more about Eddie who he’d known for far less time.
“Well if anyone’s asking me, I think you’re all assholes.” Eddie’s easy quip slid in, easing some of the tension almost effortlessly, “But the thing about assholes? If you stretch ‘em, they can grow.”
“Munson, what the fuck?” Billy leaned away from him.
“It’s true!”
“It’s fucking gross!” Tommy threw the end of a Vienna sausage at him, “Do you just say shit like that on purpose or are you actually queer?”
“If I were, you, Tommy Hagan, would be the very last person I would tell.” Eddie lobbed the corner of a poptart back at him. “Last thing this minefield of a quartet needs is homophobia.”
Tommy squinted at Eddie, “Okay now, that one pisses me off. People just assume I hate the gays just because I’m an asshole about everything else.”
“Tommy, think about what you just said for a second.”
“It’s different! Being a dick to, like, regular people is one thing. The gays have enough shit going on, with the bible thumpers. And the whole bible thing is stupid anyway! I’ve read that thing front to back like three times and the whole Sodom and Gamorah thing was about child abuse so that’s a whole lot of people admitting they can’t fucking read. Which just makes Christians look stupid so it makes me even more pissed off cause if I’m gonna look stupid I want it to at least be for a problem I do have. I can’t do trig but I can at least fucking read--”
“Tommy,” Steve pushed him gently to jar him out of the rabbit hole he’d just gone down.
Eddie was staring at him like he was the single most baffling puzzle he’d ever seen, a growing sense of amazement lighting up a smile like the sun cresting the horizon. If there was anything Eddie Munson was, it was uncomfortably perceptive. Steve knew that well enough by now, but Tommy was just about to find out.
“Well, then, in that case, yeah, I’m kinda queer.” Eddie said, casual as anything, despite Billy choking on his soda beside him.
His shrewd eyes locked onto Tommy, and Steve knew he’d be picking apart each little individual bit of his reaction and running it through whatever process in his head equated to judgement. Tommy, to his credit, while looking absolutely floored Eddie had just dropped that like it was nothing, didn’t react much more.
“Okay.” He said once he’d gotten his voice back.
“Okay?” Eddie raised both eyebrows.
“Well what do you want me to do, a backflip?” He wiggled his injured leg, “Not really on the menu right now.”
Eddie grinned and shook his head, looking absolutely delighted, “Man, meeting you two is starting to fuck with me. Cool jocks. Who would have thought?”
“Crazy what can happen when you get to actually know someone.” Steve let out the breath he’d been holding that entire conversation through.
“Yeah, crazy.” Eddie agreed.
*
By the time they finished the second bottle of vodka it was just after nine. Reasonably they should turn in for the night but Steve was still wired from the day’s action and he was pretty sure he wasn’t the only one.
Eddie couldn’t settle at the best of times, while Billy and Tommy were tossing an orange back and forth. If Steve ignored the bloodstained rag wrapped around Tommy’s leg, and the distant sound of demobats, he could almost pretend they were having a sleep over.
A sleepover with his ex-best friend, his rival-turned-ally, and his other rival-turned-friend.
Sure, totally normal.
“We should go to bed.” Steve suggested, mostly just so he could say he’d tried to be responsible.
“Unless you mean that in a sexy way, no. There’s no way I’m sleeping tonight.” Eddie replied without looking away from the window.
If Steve could hear the demobats, he was sure Eddie could too. His leg was bouncing and every line of his body screamed ‘tension’. Normally, Steve would have sat him down beside him, pet through his hair and got him talking about something until he chilled out a bit. But given present company…
Given present company? Would they really mind? Yeah, of course they would, they’d both give Steve a metric ton of shit. But would that be it? It wasn’t like they’d beat his ass over it, Eddie had just come out like three hours ago. Maybe Steve was just too far in his own head.
“Eddie?” He called, getting the other’s attention, although not in full, “C’mere for a sec.”
Eddie turned all the way back to him, biting his bottom lip like he was trying to tear the skin off it with just his incisors. So, even more freaked out than Steve had thought. There was no way he was going to prioritize being a coward over Eddie who clearly needed his help.
He sat down beside him, just a little too close as always. Steve scooted even closer, sliding his hand into Eddie’s hair and scratching just the way he knew he liked. Almost immediately his shoulders lost some of their tension.
“So, if you’re not going to sleep, and I’m not fucking you, what should we do instead?” Steve asked, earning himself a laugh.
“How about we play something.” Tommy suggested, despite the question not being addressed to him in the least.
“Like a sleepover?” Billy huffed what almost could have been called a laugh, “What’re we, sixteen year old girls?”
“I could braid your hair too, Sunshine~” Eddie winked at him.
“Stop calling me that.”
“Like you don’t love it.” Eddie grinned right back.
Steve was surprised to see a blush rise on Billy’s cheeks, though he didn’t get to see it long before he was turning his head away.
“If you two wanna stop flirting, I was gonna say two truths and a lie. That one’s always fun.”
“Sounds great, Billy you should go first.” Eddie couldn’t help but tease.
Steve pulled on the baby hairs at the base of his neck a little, getting a hiss out of him and a poke to the side for his trouble.
“Fine.” Billy turned back to the group and held up three fingers, “I have killed a man, I will kill again, and it burns when I pee.”
Tommy looked stricken and Steve could relate. He knew at least one of those was true, although he felt obligated to argue that while Billy’s body had certainly killed someone, he himself hadn’t. Though, he supposed from Billy’s perspective that line probably didn’t feel as clear.
“Second one’s a lie.” Eddie answered, his voice deceptively calm.
“Munson wins.” Billy laid back down and tossed the orange to himself.
“Wait, no, hold on, back it up.” Tommy mimed pumping the breaks, looking just as goofy as his dad did when he did that, “Can we talk about that first one?”
“The game was two truths and a lie, not two truths a lie and an investigation. Mind your own business Hagan.”
“Nah, man you made that my business.”
“He didn’t kill anyone.” Steve said firmly, staring Billy down even though he wasn’t looking in his direction as though daring him to argue, “He was possessed.”
“Possessed? Like Linda Blair possessed?”
“Worse.” Billy answered shortly.
“First monsters, now demons? How in the hell has all this shit been happening without anyone knowing until the town literally split in half?” Tommy blinked, his head reeling back as he tried to make that make sense, “You’re good now though, right? Not possessed anymore?”
“Mostly.” Billy answered cryptically.
“I’m trying really hard not to flip a shit here, and you’re really not fucking helping Hargrove.”
“I don’t know how else to put it. It’s not in me anymore, but I can still feel where it was. I can still hear it, if it’s close. I can still do some of the things it could. Still don’t feel hum--” Billy cut himself off abruptly.
Eddie and Steve locked eyes across the circle. Later, they’d deal with that later.
“How about we play something else?” Steve suggested.
*
“This one is easy.” Steve explained, “We go in a circle, we say things we haven’t done and if you’ve done the thing someone is saying, you put a finger down. Last one to put all their fingers down, wins.”
“This is stupid.” Billy grumbled for the third time.
“But you’re still playing~” Eddie leaned over to bump his shoulder to Billy’s.
The blonde didn’t reply.
“I’ll go first this time.” Tommy all but decided, “Hmmm, never have I ever gone skydiving.”
None of them put a finger down, if anything Billy just stared at Tommy as though he could make him pick up his disapproval like radio waves.
“Right,” Steve thought for a moment, “Never have I ever dyed my hair.”
Eddie and Billy both put a finger down while he and Tommy kept their ten.
“Oooh what color?” Eddie eagerly asked.
Billy hesitated a long moment before answering, “Pink.”
Eddie’s head tilted as his smile stretched wider, “You’d look good in pink, sunshine.”
Billy rolled his eyes, “Never have I ever voluntarily worn a polo shirt.”
“Targeted!” Tommy whined, putting a finger down as Steve shook his head and did the same.
“I’m trying to win, Hangman. Skydiving? Seriously?”
Tommy paused at the use of his old nickname. Steve hadn’t thought Billy knew that one, given that Tommy had gotten it years before he’d come to town. Hangman Hagan, they’d called him for years, because fucking with him was tantamount to a social death sentence. Tommy had never been one to simply get even, no, when he set about to ruin someone, he ruined them. As inescapable as the hangman.
It seemed to have flipped a switch in him, Steve could see the moment his competitive nature lit up in his eyes.
“Alright, Sunshine, let’s go then.”
“It’s Munson’s turn.” Billy smirked back, nodding his head over at him.
God help them, Eddie was wearing the same damn smile. As much as Steve cared about them each individually (and wasn’t that a thought), he hoped they never hung out like this again. It was too much chaos per square inch, if this kept up something would end up on fire, he just knew it.
“Okay, never have I ever played basketball.”
Steve, Tommy, and Billy all put a finger down.
“Low blow Munson.”
“Really, not even once?”
“No wonder you can’t run for more than three minutes!”
“Your turn, Van Hagan.” Eddie said around his shit eating grin.
“Fine, you wanna throw cheap shots? Never have I ever kissed a guy.”
Eddie made a face and put down a finger. But so did Steve, and so too did Billy.
“All of--”
“Put a finger down, Tommy.” And God help him now Steve was smiling too, couldn’t help it.
Now it was Eddie’s turn to toss his hands in the air and shout a the top of his lungs.
“I knew it!” He barked as Tommy put a finger down, “Birds of a feather, every fuckin’ time!”
“I’ve got to admit I’m surprised that all of us have.” Steve said, much more calmly than he felt, because all of them had kissed a guy before. If he thought about that for more than a few seconds at a time, he might actually implode.
Eddie’s head whipped over to Billy who was looking anywhere other than the group. He hadn’t tried to take back his answer, however, so that was encouraging.
“I’ve gotta know, who?” Eddie asked the room at large.
“Tommy, duh.” Steve replied as though it were obvious, “How else would I have caught that?”
Eddie nodded, still smiling like an idiot, “Right, yeah, good point.”
“Steve.” Tommy answered, “And, uh,” His eyes flicked over to Billy and Steve almost choked on his tongue.
“Seriously?! When?!” He managed to get out, though his voice sounded like he was being strangled.
Eddie laughed so hard he ended up wiggling around on the floor, pure joy erupting from him.
“Like, right after he got here? We met at a party before we met at school.”
“Crystal’s party? The one I was sick for? The one with that hot blonde that you wouldn’t stop talking about for a week? The hot blonde you met was Billy?”
“Uh huh.”
“You talked about me?” Billy’s smile rode the line between the genuine one Steve had seen glimpses of recently and the trashy smirk he’d worn all through high school.
Tommy’s face was beet red, “Might’ve.” He muttered.
“Sounds like you had a torch burning. What changed?”
“You talked.”
Eddie had been half way to sitting up but immediately lost the battle.

rewatching the 502 scene with ana at the station and it genuinely makes me howl every single time. the long ass silence between eddie introducing chris to ravi and then just staring into space while everyone looks at him waiting for him to introduce ana while he gets absolutely pummeled by the elephant in the room. his thousand yard stare. just a dumpster fire of a human being. a wet rag cosplaying as flesh and bone. I want him carnally.
#im so grateful to 9-1-1 for giving me this relationship just so i could have this breakup because its one of my favorite things in the world#i think about these scenes more than possibly any other scenes in 911 history#maybe you should go home first is on par with theres no on in this world i trust with my son more than you in terms of replayability for me#eddie diaz#911 abc#weewoo brainrot
