MODERN HIGH! THEODORE X READER HEADCANNONS && IMAGINES
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
High! Theo who literally has red eyes as he just eyes you across the room getting himself a drink of water.
High! Theo who just smiles with those gorgeous dead eyes that seem to hypnotize you every time
High! Theo who hallucinates 50/50 of the time of his high trip.
“Bella…why do you have two heads??”
“…omg you really are that high.”
Headcannon on High! Theo who is a snuggle bug.
High! Theo who just stays put when you ask him too. This man is just sitting on the couch like a dad ready to watch a sport.
High! Theo who switches to his native language to ramble. Sometimes he can’t control it.
“Ti amo così tanto. Voglio sposarti quando ci laureeremo all’università amore mio.” (I love you so much. I wanna marry you when we graduate college my love.)
“Mhm…” you hummed not understanding him, but you knew he loves you.
High! Theo who just pepper kisses your face a lot
Imagine High! Theo who sings a random song as you are trying to keep his munchies down
High! Theo who ate a pizza you order, but he wants more.
Headcannon on High! Theo who would just watch you and follow you around. Literally turning his head around to watch you literally go in the hallway
High! Theo who is literally baked to the point he can’t even stand correctly for 5 minutes.
High! Theo who would count his own fingers for fun out of no where.
High! Theo who says he could do a hand stand for 10 minutes only for him to land on his back with a big thump!
High! Theo who cooks randomly. Feeling the need to cook for you.
“Theo? What in gods name are you doing?” You ask seeing a high Theodore stirring up some pasta.
“I’m makin pasta for the love of my life..”
High! Theo who trips over the littlest of things and sometimes curses the thing out
High! Theo who tells you to dance with him randomly. He doesn’t take no for an answer this time. He wants to dance with you.
High! Theo who literally complains about wanting to fall asleep but feels hungry at the same time.
High! Theo who would drool in his nap as you told him to sleep off his high. And he listened

Sleep In Heavenly Peace | One Shot
In which Finn loses a special member of his family...
tw: major pet death ;-;
Finn was sound asleep when little coughs jarred him awake. He glanced around bewilderedly to try to figure out where it came from. It took him a few minutes before he registered that it was Pannie. His Pannie was…well it wasn’t even really a cough. It seemed as though he was struggling to breathe. Finn’s heart sped up and he jumped to his feet, nearly tangling himself in his own blanket to try to get to his dog. He managed to put it aside and scooped Pannie up into his arms and rushed down the stairs.
He knew he had to look like a mess, hair all over, in his striped blue pajamas and barely a thought for a coat as he rushed out of the house. He moved in a daze, not really letting himself think about much of anything until he finally got to the emergency vet. He explained the situation and they took Pannie back immediately, asking Finn to wait in the lobby while they checked him over.
It was then the anxiety took him over. What if something was choking him? What if he snuck some chocolate somehow even though Finn was so so careful with everything he ate around Pannie? He worried at his lip until it drew blood, arms wrapped around himself as he waited for…well anything.
It felt like forever and like not long all at once before a vet came out to him and the look on his face made Finn’s heart sink. “Is it…is it really b-b-b-bad?” Finn managed to ask, tears already starting to blur his vision at the thought. Pannie was his buddy. His companion that had soothed him and protected him and loved him so well. “I’m afraid so. He has a collapsed trachea. Now, it is possible to do surgery to fix that in some cases, but we took an x-ray to look at the damage, and the unfortunate truth is that it is too complex for one of us to treat here in our clinic. We can still try, but the success rate for this is about 40-50%.”
Finn’s face fell, and he wrapped his arms around himself even tighter. “Is he… is he in p-p-pain?” Finn asked weakly, wishing that he had thought to wake Nemo and bring him here with him. Maybe he would have handled the world caving in on him better with him there. As it was, he wanted to curl up into a ball and cry. “Not at this moment. We do have him sedated. However the damage being so extensive does mean he will struggle more and more to breathe and he will not be able to live a full and happy life. There’s a good chance his little body would give out in a manner of weeks without surgery.”
Finn started openly crying, but he felt he was owed it. Either he tried to save his Pannie and it hurt him horribly and it didn’t have a strong chance of success, or he didn’t and he would have to end Pannie’s suffering. He wanted to throw up. He wanted to run far away from this place. It had been Finn and Pannie against the world for years. He had expected there to be quite a few more years.
He took heaving, shuddering breaths, wiping at his eyes furiously. “C-C-Can…” he faltered. “I d-d-don’t want him to suffer,” he said next, his body trembling. “If I…if you…. C-c-can I hold him and say goodb-b-b-bye?” He requested then. “Of course,” the vet said, and he guided Finn back and to where his Pannie was laying across an examination table. “P-P-Pannie,” Finn blurted, stumbling over and burying his face in his dog’s fur on his head, peppering him with kisses. “I love you so so so m-m-m-m-much,” he told the dog, rubbing his nose on his head. He let out a weak giggle as his Pannie, lethargic as he still managed to lick away some of his tears a little.
He gave him several more kisses. The vet was kind enough to wait until Finn finally sat up and reluctantly nodded. He continued to pet Pannie as the vet came over with a shot. Finn didn’t dare look at that or what the vet was doing. He just pet his Pannie and watched his sweet little face as he labored to breathe until his eyes seemed to roll back and Pannie was gone from him.
The next steps were a blur to Finn because of the tears. He was given options on what to do with Pannie, but only one felt right to Finn. He scooped Pannie up again and brought him back to his childhood home. He texted his mom to let her know he was coming in the early hours, and he found a favorite spot he and Pannie had always shared and slowly he dug up the earth, bit by bit until it was enough to set Pannie down inside.
He then carefully started covering him back up with dirt, pausing only when he realized he didn’t have much of a marker for Pannie’s spot. He almost panicked then, but it was then that his mom came over to him and brought him snowflower seeds. “Here my dearest. Why don’t you plant these for now, and then when they are no longer in season we can plant other flowers over it, or perhaps a tree nearby hmm?”
Finn nodded numbly. A tree to mark the spot would be perfect in the long run. He carefully covered his dog and covered the seeds well too. He then stepped back to look at his handy work. A part of him wanted to dig right back up and pull Pannie out again. It didn’t feel real. It couldn’t be real. It was real. “Goodbye P-Pannie,” he mumbled softly as he started to cry again, letting his mom steer him inside as he processed through his grief.

Shawn x reader.
Word Count: ~1.5k
Warnings: Drinking/drunkenness, blink and you'll miss it angst.
// * // * //
You rested your head back against the front passenger seat of Shawn’s Tesla and closed your eyes. “I drank too much.” He had picked you up from a girls' night out with your friends. You had been ready to go home before the others and Shawn had told you to never hesitate to call him if ever you should need to.
“Just don’t puke in my car,” he snickered. “We’ll be home in ten.”
You rolled your head to the side and met his eyes as he glanced at you. “You really didn’ have to come,” you said softly.
“Of course I did. I wanted to make sure you got home safe.”
“But your friends...”
Shawn had had a few of his friends over at his place that evening. He had chosen to not drink much himself, anticipating a possible call from you.
“It’s just Brian left. He crashes there all the time.”
“When am I gonna meet ’em?”
“When I’m ready to share you with them,” he smirked.
“’m yours,” you whispered, small smile on your lips, and closed your eyes again.
The thought of you being his made his heart skip.
// * // * //
Once in the elevator, you placed your hand on Shawn’s shoulder for balance and slipped off your heels. You exhaled in relief. “That’s better.”
He took your shoes in his own hand and when the elevator door opened, he said, “Hold on to me, honey.”
You bubbled, “’m not so drunk I can’t walk!”
“I beg to differ. You almost bit it getting out of the car,” he teased.
“You have good reflexes,” you said, wrapping both of your arms around his bicep as you started down the hall.
Stopping in front of your door, Shawn asked, “Where are your keys, Sweetheart?”
“In here. Somewhere,” you mumbled, letting go of him to dig through your clutch.
“Give it here. I’ll find them.” Cell, cash, credit card, dark pink tinted cherry lip balm, a-ha, keys, and, “Condoms? I didn’t think you were that kind of girl.” He smirked, trying to conceal the disappointment in his voice.
“’m not but the twins are,” you giggled.
It shouldn’t have mattered if the condoms had belonged to you. Still, Shawn found himself profoundly relieved.
Unlocking the door and stepping inside, he set your heels on the shoe rack and hung your clutch from a wall hook.
He led you to the kitchen and made you sit on one of the stools at the island. “Let’s get some food in you. You’ll thank me in the morning.”
You watched intently as Shawn cut an avocado, removed the pit, and scooped out the flesh. He mashed it and added small pinches of garlic, sea salt, and pepper and then put two slices of whole grain bread in the toaster.
“I haven’ been drunk since college... "I do stupid things when I’m drunk.”
“We all do stupid things when we’re drunk,” he chuckled, taking a glass from the cupboard and filling it with water.
He was about to pass it to you when you said, abruptly, “I kissed some guy at the club.”
He lost his grip on the glass. It hit the ground with a crash and shattered.
“Shit.”
“Lemme help,” you said, starting to move from the stool.
“No, you need to stay right there while I clean up. I don’t want you to get hurt.” He laid a dishtowel over the mess before retrieving a new glass and trying again. This time he successfully placed it before you, followed by a slice of avocado toast. “Eat.”
You ate dutifully while Shawn sopped up the water and swept up the glass. He found a post-it and wrote:
No bare feet in the kitchen!
He stuck it right where you would see it in the morning. He wasn’t sure if he’d gotten all the slivers.
Shawn polished off the second piece of avocado toast himself while leaning elbows and forearms on the kitchen island across from you. Finish your water too, angel.”
“Thank you for taking care of me,” you whispered.
He smiled tenderly. “You would do the same for me. Now, come on. Time for bed.”
He followed closely behind you as you made your way to the master bedroom. It would be the first time he had been in your room; he was undeniably curious. He slipped his slides off just outside the bedroom door and crossed the threshold.
It was a stunning space. King-sized, hard maple, canopy bed, likely custom made, with matching bedroom furniture. The bed rested on a large rug which felt ridiculously plush beneath his bare feet. Above the low-rise dresser hung a 50” flat screen television.
Shawn was pulled from his perusal when he heard you apologize. “I’m sorry.”
“Why?”
“I feel guilty.”
“For what?”
“For kissing someone else.”
“You can kiss whoever you want, babe.”
“’cept you,” you sighed. “He wasn’ even a good kisser. Too sloppy. Too eager.”
“Of course he was eager. You are gorgeous. And darling, in this dress...”
“Which I can’t wait to get outta.” You reached behind you and started to unzip it.
“Whoa,” Shawn said, spinning away, flushing.
You giggled and hiccupped. “I’m not gonna get naked in fron’a you! I just need outta this damn dress! Help me!”
He stepped up behind you and moved your hair to the side.
While he slid the zipper all the way down to where it stopped at the dimples above the swell of your bottom, you confessed, "He coulda been your twin. Or maybe I jus’ saw your face in his ’cause you’re always in my head.”
Before Shawn could even digest that, your dress fell from your body to the floor. He groaned softly. You were wearing a blush colored, lace, strapless bra and matching thong panties. He looked up at the ceiling and breathed deeply. This would be an inappropriate time to get aroused, but damn if you didn’t have the most amazing body he had ever seen.
Suddenly unsteady, you swayed on your feet. You reached out to grab the bedpost, almost missing it, but Shawn was there to catch you, again.
He chuckled. “I need you to sit down so I can find you something to wear to bed without worrying about you faceplanting.”
“I should take a shower.”
“In the morning, love. I’m afraid you’ll stumble in the tub and hurt yourself.”
“I gotta’least wash my face an’ brush my teeth.”
Shawn stood beside you, holding your hair back, while you scrubbed your face pink and brushed your teeth. He then had you sit on the chair at your small vanity while he went to choose something from your dresser drawers.
He returned with a pair of white boy short underwear with rainbow hearts all over them and a white racerback tank top.
“I like these,” you said about the boy shorts. “But I don’ want this.” You handed the top back to him.
“What do you want instead?”
“Can I wear your shirt? It’ll smell like you an’ I’d really love that.” He was wearing a simple white button-down.
“You’re lucky I’m wearing a tank top underneath, and that I have a hard time saying no to you,” he chuckled, undoing the only three buttons that were fastened, slipping it from his shoulders, and handing it to you. He then waited on the other side of the door to give you privacy to change.
You exited the bathroom, thankfully seeming to be a little more stable on your feet. He bit softly on his bottom lip; he liked how you looked in his shirt.
“Come on, babe. Into bed.”
You crawled to the very middle of the mattress. He retrieved the brush from your dresser and positioned himself behind you. He gently brushed your hair out before loosely braiding it. That way, should you wake up sick, at least your hair would be out of the way.
When he had finished, you glanced back at him over your shoulder. “Do you really think I’m pretty?”
“You are the most beautiful woman I have ever known,” he said softly, tucking a loose strand of hair behind your ear.
“Then why don’t you want me?” you whispered.
He kissed your shoulder and breathed in the scent of your soft, warm skin mingling with the smell of himself from his shirt. His heart began thumping in his ears. You probably wouldn’t remember any of this in the morning, which made him braver than he would be otherwise.
“I want you, more than you can imagine, and that scares me,” he murmured. “You were…unexpected. You walked into my life and turned my world upside down so quickly; it’s making me question everything. I feel unbalanced around you.”
“’m sorry, I didn’mean to.”
“I wouldn’t wish it any different,” he smiled tenderly.
Shawn helped you settle under the covers and retrieved a glass of water and two ibuprofens to set on the nightstand beside the bed. He also moved a small wastebasket to within arms’ reach.
He crouched down to level himself with you and gently asked, “Do you really want to kiss me?”
You exhaled, your words almost imperceptible, “Every damn day.”
He took a deep breath. “If you remember any part of our conversation tomorrow, I’ll let you,” he promised. “Damn the consequences.”

This was made for my wonderful pal @dis-gorl! Here ya go and I hope ya enjoyed it~ 💕💕
Please ignore the typos it's 3am lol
100 Days (Saeyoung x MC)
You quickly got up from bed as soon as you heard your alarm go off. You hated waking up early, mostly because you were not a morning person, but today was special. Today, you celebrated 100 days if being with the love of you life, Saeyoung.
It had been tough road to get where you are now, but thanks to hard effort and of course, love, you managed to make it through all the challenged the world seemed to throw at you.
You immediately put on your cutest clothes, and made your hair in the way he liked it the most. Today, you were going to spoil the heck out of that man~
You quickly went outside and bought some PhD Pepper, both if your favorite candy, your favorite movies and a small bento box -this one you had made yourself, weeks before having practiced over and over how to make the perfect meal, with hearts and smiley faces and everything Saeyoung liked that wasn't trash food. You had to admit that for now being an expert with cooking you did an amazing job.
You immediately got a ride to Saeyoung's home. You slowly made your way to the door, your face blushing a bit and your hand trying to fix a strand of fair away from your face.
You stood in front of the door waiting for it to immediately open like it always did ever since Saeyoung adjusted it to obey your voice too, but this time it didn't seem to move.
You tried looking around, confused, and then tried to open the door once again.
It wouldn't buckle.
That was strange.
You quickly took your phone out, and leaning against the door texted your boyfriend, trying to ask where he was without being too obvious you had come to visit him.
You immediately got a reply back.
"Me and Saeran decided to go in an impromptu brother's trip!~ Look! Saeran caught a big fish!"
Immediately after that came a picture of a selfie Saeyoung took with Saeran in the background (he was indeed holding a big ass fish.) The second one he sent was of him currently getting smacked in the face with said fish while Saeran seemed to scream something at him.
You chuckled at the sight, but immediatly felt your heart tighten as you realized that, Saeyoung wasn't here and most importantly, that he had forgotten about the anniversary.
It wasn't something you had discussed with him before, but all couples in korea knew and did this tradition, so you just assumed Saeyoung would know it too.
As you bit your bottom lip trying not to cry, Saeyoung sent you one last message telling you that you had left something in the house, and that if you wanted to go and get it that the back yard door was open, and only opened for your voice.
You felt confused as to what you could've possibly left inside, and debated wether to go in or not....you were feeling pretty down.
But maybe going to Saeyoung's room and putting his clothes on while sleeping on his bed wrapped in blankets might help. And you could eat his food, as a bit of revenge for forgetting something so important.
You quickly made your way through the backyard and opened the door. The first thing you saw was a small red string, with a small note attached to it.
Ohoho~ Surprise surprise my sweet 606! Wanna play a game?? Of course you do! Now, all you have to do is follow the red string all the way to the house. Once you've collected all the pieces of paper, in the end of your journey you will find a key that will lead you to your secret treasure! Have fun~
You felt your stomach do a flip as you read the note over and over again. He....he had something planned? Oh how fun! You squealed as you followed the piece of red string near the garden, which Saeran had been tending to ever since he arrived. You immediately found the first note with a flower attached to the back, and it said, in small letters in the top: Reasons why I love you.
In Saeyoung's messy handwriting you made out what it said.
1. I love your smile.
You flushed red and tried to hide your face in your hands. You giggled as you put the note in your bag along with the flower carefully, and followed the red string towards a big tree in the yard. It used to be very lonely and depressing, but thanks to Saeran he managed to make the whole place look absolutely wonderful!
You found the second note with your favorite candy attached on the side. It said:
2. I love you be because make my heart smile.
Yoh let out a small chuckle and happily ate the candy while following the red thread. Quickly you found number 3, with a cute plushie of a cat next to it.
3. Because with you I can truly be myself.
You made your way through the garden, each time collecting more and more notes and small items.
4. When we're together you make all my problems disappear.
9. Because you make me feel like I'm the only person in the whole universe~
You made your way inside the house through the backdoor and went into the living room.
14. Because you're always there for me, no matter what
17. Because you are yourself with me.
25. Because you encourage me after I've failed.
29. Because you love me and my family! Even though we're crazy!
34. You always make time for the two of us.
You went inside the living room and found a big teddy bear laying on the couch and smiled, picking up the next note.
37. You take care of me and spoil me~
40. Because you are determined to make this relationship work, and you always give it your best.
46. When you laugh it makes me laugh!
49. Because your arms feel more like home than any house ever did
50. You always keep your promises.
53. You have the ability to comfort me simply by your touch.
56. When things don't go as planned you always roll with it, instead of getting stressed.
59. Because you always swap the wet towels for dry ones when you know I'm showering.
64. You always believe in me and inspire me.
69. Because your are so sexy and I can't believe I get to call you mine. (☞ ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)☞
You let out a laugh and then gasped as you looked at the kitchen. The table was a lined up with your favorite food and dishes and drinks. You put your part of the food in the table and had to debate wether or not to keep going. The food looked way too delicious...but you had do wait for Saeyoung. With a determined step you kept going down the hall.
71. I love you because you picked me.
75. You are sweeter than any PhD Pepper, or Honey Buddha Chips. I'd chose you over them any time.
78. You have the courage to chase your dreams.
80. You make an effort with my friends and family because you know they matter to me.
81. I love you because you gave me the gift of yourself.
84. Because you make me feel special.
87. You are my best friend in the whole world.
88. I will love you forever.
90. You make all my dreams come true.
You felt your heart melt as you walked down the hall and into the spare rooms, slowly walking up to Saeyoung's room.
91. Because I can't imagine life without you.
92. You don't just tell me you love me, you show me.
93. You never give up on me, even when I'm at my worst.
Closer.
94. You care about the people around you.
95. You are smokin hot!
96. I love your snuggles.
You were now passing the bathroom, and after that, came Saeyoung's room. You felt your heart start beating faster and faster.
97. You still give me butterflies.
Closer.
98. Your hand fits perfectly in mine
The only thing you could hear was the quick thumping of your heart.
99. I love that I get to go through life with you....
The last note had a key attached with a red string. You grabbed it and opened the door.
Your eyes took a moment to adjust to the darkness of the room, but you saw the curtains were drawn, and that in the roof there were holograms of dancing stars and planets.
There was a small fort in the middle, and you gasped as you saw Saeyoung standing there, a big goofy smile in his face.
You felt your cheeks heat up as he made his way towards you, pulling you into the room. He grabbed your hands and squeezed them, looking deep into your eyes.
"I love you because...." He whispered, and kissed your forehead. "You have taught me...." He kissed your cheek. "The true meaning...." He kissed your nose. "Of love..." And then, he locked your lips against yours in a chaste kiss.
You wrapped your arma around his neck and melted deeper and deeper into the kiss, making Saeyoung sigh in happiness. When the two of you ran out of breath, he quickly held on finger up and dug for something in his pockets.
He took out a small box and opened it's showing a beautiful red ring with small diamonds on the side (looking like stars) and caressed your cheek.
"MC." He said. You nodded.
"I...you've truly made me the happiest man alive. I would've never thought I'd ever be able to have something like this...to have someone i get to call my own...but thanks to you, everything seems possible now. I've found my brother. I'm happier. I have someone I love and cherish. I...I don't exactly know much about this... anniversary, but I read about promise rings and...well...." He quickly took the ring out and gently placed it in your finger, kissing your knuckles. "I promise, from now on, to always be by your side. To love you, no matter what, and to cherish you and adore you and spoil you. I will love you forever, my dear 606."
You let out a happy sigh and immediately wrapped your arms around Saeyoung, then kissed his nose and his forehead and his cheeks, muttering how much you loved him, how happy you were.
*Oh Saeyoung! This is...this is absolutely wonderful! Thank you, I... I love you so much!!!" You kissed him again, making him laugh and then, in one swift movement pick you up and twirl you around and around.
"I love you too! More than anything in the universe!"
That afternoon, after having some fun times in the bedroom and watching a movie (well, tried to, you kept getting distracted since he would kiss you every five seconds) inside the beautiful fort he had made, you had dinner and spent the whole time in each other's company, every once in a while kissing you and hugging you tight.
Thay night you spent it in each other's arms, happily hugging and whispering words of love yo each other.
Now you couldn't wait until you celebrated your 200 day anniversary!

Book Two: Sapphire (Ignis x Reader) Chapter VI
After speaking to Monica and learning of Cor's plan to dismantle the Norduscaean Blockade, the sun had set. Deciding to head to the rendezvous point the next morning, the royal retinue departed from Prairie Outpost. They were stripped of funds and couldn't even afford the caravan. Instead, they opted to camp out at Lepellieth Haven nearby.
Once the campsite was established, Ignis went to work on dinner. While he was deciding what to cook, (Y/n) grabbed a wood-knitted basket lined with a pale blue fabric. She examined the basket before nodding in approval.
Prompto, who's been scrolling through the pictures on his camera, lifted his head when he heard her hum faintly. "What's with the basket?"
"I'm going to take a short stroll around the area and search for ingredients. The basket makes it easier to carry whatever I find," (Y/n) explained.
The photographer hopped to his feet. "Lemme go with you!" He put his camera down in his chair. "I-I know you're badass and all in a fight, but you really shouldn't be walking around at night. Y'know, with all the daemons..."
She smiled reassuringly at him. "I'll be fine, Prompto. If I'm not back in an hour, that's when you should start worrying. I'll be back soon, okay?"
"Do tread lightly, (Y/n)," Ignis spoke up as she left the safety of the haven.
Gladio watched the guardian leave before glancing back at the advisor. "You're not worried?"
"Unlike you all, (Y/n) knows her limits. I have confidence she needs not a hand to hold whenever she pleases to explore," he replied as he began chopping vegetables.
"Damn, Speccy," Noctis spoke up. "Sounds like you trust her more than us."
"To be fair, they've been together pretty much their entire lives," the shield remarked. He leaned back in his seat. "So tell us about (Y/n), Iggy. The rest of us have no clue what it's like growing up with a guardian."
"What could I possibly convey that she could not?" The tactician retorted.
"And why're you so curious?" Noctis mumbled. "Pretty sure they taught you the basics in school."
"I think spiritual beings was the only class I passed," Prompto chimed in.
"Some of us didn't go to a school where they could learn about guardians," the shield stated.
"Now that I think about it, the books mentioned each guardian is unique and their timings vary. When did (Y/n) come into the picture?"
Ignis kept his attention focused on cooking while answering the question. "(Y/n) manifested when I was merely three months old, but our unification didn't come until my fifth birthday. As you may know, spirits are born unto this world via a soul which they are sworn to protect. Just as we, they are brought in with an innocence and pure form. Guardians, unlike us, are stunned at growth and only develop their human form after their masters have reached certain ages. Their spiritual form can also change once development has begun."
Noctis blinked in realization. "Now that you mention it, (Y/n)'s tail was really short when we first met."
"Our first meeting was a time when (Y/n) had yet to develop her human form."
The prince smiled at the memory. "She was really small, too. All I remember was seeing a white fluff ball curled up on your shoulder. She was fast asleep and didn't even budge when I poked her."
"When did she develop her human form?" Gladio asked.
"The day I turned eight," Ignis answered.
Prompto gasped, eyes wide as saucers. "Now I remember!"
"Why're you shouting?" Noctis groaned.
"The reason why guardians take so long to develop is because their human forms are determined by their masters deepest desire!"
Gladio smirked when understanding what Prompto was getting at. "So (Y/n) looks the way she does because Iggy's deepest desire was a beautiful woman. Nicely done. Better make sure no one else tries to take her from you."
"Isn't that a little extreme? Y'know, for an eight-year-old?" Prompto muttered. "I thought maybe it was because Iggy may have been lonely..."
Prompto was indeed correct. Ignis' deepest desire at a young age was someone who would be his friend and someone who would care for him. He had his uncle, but he wanted someone else important in his life to care for him. (Y/n)'s physical appearance was not the result of his desire but simply how well she took care of herself. And now his newest desire was her. He cares deeply for her not because of her beauty, but her heart. What he adored most about her was her kind, caring nature and how selfless she was. She always put everyone else first, just like he did with Noctis. Although he was duty-bound to the throne, he wanted to put her first. However, his job prevented him from doing just that. His duty was to Noctis, not to (Y/n). He couldn't neglect the prince simply for love. He had a job to do and there wasn't any time for any thing or anyone else. Being an advisor was the one thing that was keeping him from professing his true feelings to the one variable that was constant in his life.
Once completing dinner, Ignis handed everyone their dishes. Noctis immediately groaned when he saw the chunks of vegetables floating in the broth, but he ignored the prince and enjoyed what he prepared. As he was about to scold Noctis for not eating, (Y/n) returned with a basket brimming with ingredients. Curious as to what she brought back, Ignis stood up and returned to the cooking station.
With a smile, the guardian showed him what she found. "I found some sweet peppers, sweet potatoes, chocobeans, and tomatoes."
Noctis had overheard and sighed dramatically. "You didn't find any meat?"
The girl placed a hand on her hip while Ignis examined the many items she brought back. "Meat doesn't grow on trees or bushes, Noct."
Suddenly, all eyes were on Ignis as he shouted, "That's it!" with a sweet potato in his grasp.
(Y/n) turned back around and began putting the ingredients back into the basket. "Some new inspiration, Iggy?"
"Indeed. I've come up with a new recipe."
"It better not have vegetables in it," Noctis grumbled.
"I look forward to trying it," (Y/n) smiled at the tactician, ignoring the prince's complaining. "Maybe I could even help prepare it."
"Yeah, right," Gladio scoffed. "Iggy never lets anyone help him cook."
"On the contrary," the advisor spoke up. "(Y/n) is quite the delight to have as an assistant when I am in need of aid in the kitchen."
"Wha-?" Prompto gaped. "You're treating us like curbside garbage compared to (Y/n)! We could totally help you in the kitchen!"
"Your cooperation in the kitchen would be fruitless for you, Noct, and Gladio are ghastly cooks."
The sapphire-eyed girl bit her bottom lip to keep from laughing. She couldn't help but agree after tasting some of the dishes Ignis prepared with help from one of the boys. They always either tasted burnt or half-cooked. Even the cookies Noctis tried to help make weren't cooked all the way through. The center was still doughy because he made them too big and didn't set the oven temperature high enough for the cookies to bake properly. She wondered if the prince had done it improperly only because he wanted to eat the cookie dough raw and not bake it into cookies.
"Oh, c'mon, Iggy! Give us a second chance!" Prompto begged.
(Y/n) placed the basket down beside the grill and listened to Prompto continue to plead with Ignis. She took her portion of dinner and sat down around the fire. She enjoyed the simplistic soup, savoring each and every bite. As she was almost finished with the soup, she looked down at her bowl when she detected movement. Noctis was scooping the vegetables out of his bowl and placing them into hers. "Noct, why...?"
"You know I hate veggies," he said, continuing to remove what he hated from his bowl. "You take 'em."
She inhaled deeply before exhaling. "How old are you again?"
"I don't care if I'm 5 or 50, I'll always hate veggies." When all the vegetables were gone, Noctis ate what remained of the broth.
Deciding not to argue, (Y/n) finished what was left of her serving and Noctis' vegetables. With her bowl clean and her belly full, she offered to do the dishes in Ignis' stead. The advisor tried to protest, but she snatched up all the dishes before he could grab one. "You four should get some rest. I'll deal with the dishes. It won't take long."
Noctis and Prompto crawled into the tent to play a few rounds of King's Knight before going to bed. Gladio followed suit with his book in hand while Ignis lingered in his seat by the fire. He stared into the flames for a few minutes, delving into deep thought. When he looked away from the campfire, his eyes traveled over to (Y/n). She had finished with the dishes and neatly stacked them on the preparation table by the grill. Now she stood at the edge of the haven, eyes casted up to the night sky.
Pushing himself out of the chair, Ignis wandered over to stand beside her. He followed her gaze to see what had her attention. When he couldn't find what captivated her, he wondered if she too was lost in thought like he was a couple minutes ago. "(Y/n)?"
She blinked rapidly a few times before humming in acknowledgement. "Hm?"
"Are you feeling unwell?" He asked.
She smiled sweetly at him. "I'm fine, Iggy. Guess I was lost in thought again."
That's when he remembered what she told him at Galdin Quay. "Has the voice returned?"
She hung her head. "I...was hoping you'd forget about that." Looking back up at the sky, her eyes glistened as she focused on the cluster of stars only spirits could see. "I never told you before, but there's this mass of stars only guardians can see. It's called the Celestial Crescent. I would often gaze at it back in the city, but the lights and barrier prevented me from getting the perfect view. Out here, I can see it perfectly. And now whenever I look up at it, I hear the voice. With each passing day it becomes clearer, but I still can't make out what it wants."
"Is there nothing I can do to ease your concerns?" Ignis offered.
"Just talking to you about it is enough. I am grateful for you listening to me ramble on. It does put me at ease having someone to talk to this far from home."
"It puts my own harrowing thoughts to rest knowing you decided to accompany us. I fear our time together would've been cut short if you had desired to remain in the city."
She clasped her hands together behind her back. "I don't know what I would've done if I stayed behind. You and I are connected no matter how far apart we are. And if I had perished in the city when the empire struck..." She moved one of her hands from behind her back and placed it over the gemstone embedded in her chest. "I'd rather not think of the gruesome outcome that could've happened if I had decided to remain in Insomnia and wait for your return."
"Neither do I," Ignis confessed.
(Y/n) finally looked away from the night sky and focused her eyes on Ignis' tall stature. "It's getting late. We should call it a night. We've quite the day tomorrow and wouldn't want to be sleep-deprived. It'd be awful if one of us were to slip-up in battle and wind up injured." Without skipping a beat, she transformed into her spiritual form and flew into the tent. Ignis followed after her once extinguishing the campfire.
Inside the tent, the three boys were already asleep. Ignis laid down on the opposite side of Prompto. Once lying comfortably on his side and turned away from the others, he felt a familiar furry presence curl up near his stomach. Unconsciously, he reached down and stroked (Y/n)'s back as she slumbered. Even in the darkness of the tent, he could see her snowy fur clearly.
Eventually, Ignis felt sleep tugging at his being and he soon fell into a deep slumber.
<-------------<<<<<
The next morning, the group ate breakfast and packed up the haven. Ready to leave Lepellieth Haven, they set their destination to be the Norduscaean Blockade. They rendezvoused with Monica, who instructed Noctis to join Cor up ahead while she and the others remained behind to be a diversion.
Monica, (Y/n), Gladio, Ignis, and Prompto approach the blockade from the front. The imperial troopers on duty aimed their weapons at the group as more poured out of the blockade with their own guns drawn on the group. The guardian raised her hand and formed an ice wall made from large icicles around her and her companions to protect them from the gunfire. When there was a break in the firing squad, Ignis, Monica, and Gladio emerged from cover and attacked the soldiers. Prompto and (Y/n) remained behind the ice wall and used projectiles to attack any imperial forces that scurried their way.
After some time, soldiers stopped pouring out of the blockade and the grand metal gate slid open to reveal Noctis and Cor on the other side.
Prompto bounded over to his best friend with an excited squeal. "Noct!"
"Marshal. It's good to see you again," Ignis said.
Noctis glanced at his companions. "All right on your end?"
"Right as rain," Gladio replied. "The Niffs couldn't take their eyes off us."
"Thanks to you we were spared their attention," Cor stated.
(Y/n) went to speak up, but held her tongue when she heard the low humming of an engine. Looking around, she spotted an imperial drop ship approaching them. It hovered in the air as the imperial officer aboard addresses Noctis and the others. "Stay right where you are. Well, well, if it isn't Cor the Immortal. So you survived the Citadel. But you won't survive what I have in store for you. It's past time your legend came to an end." The officer, known a Loqi, spotted the guardian among the group and cackled. "And it seems a lowly spirit has ranked itself among this band of misfits. It'll be another one to mark off the list." Loqi enters the cockpit of his MA-X Cuirass magitek armor, then deploys to the ground.
"Say, Marshal, how 'bout you show us how it's done?" Prompto asked nervously.
Cor unsheathes his katana. "No wimping out. Let's move."
Alongside the MA-X Cuirass was a horde of soldiers and magiteks. Noctis focused on the large mech while everyone else dealt with the smaller enemies. After slicing through one of the MTs, the marshal glanced over at the spirit. "I'd like to see your specialty again, (Y/n)."
The girl glanced towards the magitek armor. "Who am I to deny a request from the marshal himself?" She broke away from the soldier she was attacking and ran towards the MA-X Cuirass. Ducking under its arm when it swatted at her, she trailed her fingers across the mech's arm. Ribbons of lightning course across its exterior before entering its metallic body and alter its coding. Loqi noticed his mech's strange behavior and how he was unable to control it any longer. "What is the meaning of this?!"
The MA-X Cuirass fires missile after missile at its own allies. Soldiers and MTs were blown to smithereens, leaving only Loqi and his out-of-control magitek armor. He screamed out when one of the mech's missiles hit the cockpit, causing it to crumble to a single knee. Noctis went to finish it and Loqi, but (Y/n) stopped him by grabbing the hem of his short-sleeved black jacket. She met his gaze just as the MA-X Cuirass self-destructed with Loqi still inside the cockpit.
Noctis looked back to the magitek armor and watched in awe as it exploded. He dispelled his blade at the same time (Y/n) released him. Turning to face her, he complimented her ability. "Nicely done."
"You can thank the empire for installing a self-destruct sequence. My magic only activated it when there wasn't another imperial enemy detected within a certain vicinity," she explained.
"Still, it's pretty damn cool."
She smiled. "Then maybe I should work on more surprises to keep you on your toes in battle."
Noctis blinked in excitement. "Wait, really?"
She nodded. "Yeah. There's been a few more things I've been wanting to try over the years, but never really got the chance. Now that we're all the way out here and we have to fight for our survival, it makes for the perfect opportunity to try the many other tricks I've stored up my sleeves."
Cor sheathed his katana and walked over to Noctis and (Y/n). "Impressive. Seeing you both in action puts my mind at ease. It's clear I don't need to worry any more. I'll return to watching the Niffs. 'Til next time, take care." The marshal leaves with Monica.
A moment later, Noctis and his companions move toward the open gate of the blockade. Ignis, who has retrieved the Regalia, slowly drives alongside the others. Gladio rested his greatsword on his shoulder. "Ain't so bad out here once you get used to it."
"Still a lot we haven't seen, though," Prompto stated matter-of-factly.
"And a lot for us to do," Ignis added.
"Yeah."
"Buck up. We're just getting started," Gladio said.
Noctis smiles, but it fell when he realized (Y/n) wasn't following them. Turning around, he found her staring up at the sky with a stoic expression. "Hey, (Y/n), you coming?"
Ignis stopped the Regalia and glanced at her. Gladio and Prompto turned around to also gaze at the girl. She blinked a couple of times before looking at them. Her heels clacked against the asphalt as she walked towards them. "Yeah. Let's see what other trouble we can get ourselves into."
"Do try to keep the trouble to a minimum," Ignis remarked.
She giggled. "No promises."

It had been nearly a year of luteless evenings.
Jaskier had passed in the way lucky humans (exceedingly lucky, in his case) do; warm, safe, in his own bed, with those who cared for him nearby. He’d also had the decency to go during a cool spell in the summer, meaning they could all gather outside for the funeral, mourn him properly, the way he’d wanted: a going-away party.
It had been beautiful; his students from all over had paid tribute, sung songs, played their instruments; tales had been told, Jaskier’s favorite pieces had been played. The annual festival Jaskier had become a patron of made promise to keep his memory alive. Oxenfurt had announced they would set up a fifth scholarship in his name, Jaskier having established the first four himself. All those he held dear had been able to attend, and by the end, it had truly felt more like the going away party he’d wished for rather than a somber elegy. A long line of former lovers had come as well, which had been amusing, to say the least.
It had been… good. It was a good funeral. They’d done as he asked, and he would have been proud.
“Is there such thing as a good funeral?” Geralt had asked.
The wind has whispered through the trees for the rest of the year in ways that sounded suspiciously like the tuning of a lute, to Yennefer, at least. She was projecting, she knew. But it was hard not to, when so much of the little world they’d built for themselves at Corvo Bianco had involved Jaskier, down to the accent tiles in the kitchen, a brilliant touch of cornflower blue running along the walls. The hanging chair in the backyard, wicker and worn now, where he’d sit and play for them while they watched the sun. The library that was filled with so many of his own works, and so many of his favorites.
All of it felt like ghosts now. He had only barely left, but felt so far away already, and yet he was right there in everything they owned, touched, did, said.
“As good as a funeral can get,” Yennefer had replied.
He’d grown old. He was a ripe 94 when he passed, and they’d both privately suspected he had wanted to go sooner than later at that point, as it became harder and harder to play. Not that Yennefer had ever had much insight into how the bard thought; they were… friends. Occasional lovers. Not like he and Geralt had been, though— and not that she’d ever minded, of course. Geralt had brought the mage and bard together, and neither had ever forced it further. Which, Yennefer admitted, had given her a deep respect for the bard she hadn’t been expecting to form. Yes, they’d been friends.
She’d expected Jaskier’s death to be difficult on Geralt. Of course it would, the two had been attached at the hip for decades, they were best friends, lovers, tied together so deeply she wouldn’t begin to try and decipher it, just as he had stopped trying to decipher her and Geralt. What she hadn’t been expecting was the loss to be such a blow to herself.
But that was death, wasn’t it? Knocking your breath away as someone else loses theirs. If he couldn’t breathe it, what use was air at all?
It was a stupid thought. But it lingered in her nonetheless.
Almost a year had passed, then, in the way grieving time always passes; both as molasses and the wind, heart-stoppingly slow and so quick they lost weeks to the ether. But it was summer again, and the birds were singing, and the sun cast the vineyard in a warm and pleasant glow, and the breeze carried the sweet smell of grapes to their porch, and Geralt had been spending increasingly more time in the study.
She’d peaked in a few times, just to see what he was up to— she could only ever see his back, it wasn’t reading, wasn’t writing, wasn’t… whatever she had expected. Instead, Geralt stood in front of the bookcase on one wall, where there was a waist-high counter of sorts, separating the top shelves from the bottom, which were reserved for larger, heavier tombs. He wasn’t looking at a book, though, or even staring ahead blankly as he had so often in the weeks after the bard’s death. He was staring at something small in front of him, lying on that counter, and for the life of her, Yennefer had no idea what it was.
The days were long and the evenings were heavy, and as one tumbled on past another, Yennefer became increasingly frustrated that she could not figure out what was preoccupying Geralt so. It was small, smaller than a book, so it wasn’t one of Jaskier’s poetry collections. Nor could it be the memory album Ciri had put together for the bard’s 85th.
He just stared. More than once, she could see him take a shuttering breath against tears. A handful of times, she’d crept in once he had left, looking for… something, some clue of what had been paining him, but she’d found nothing.
Weeks drew on. Geralt was increasingly agitated and trying hard to conceal it. He must have known she’d been spying, but neither had dared say a word. There was no bar, now, to break the tension. Well, something had to give.
Another evening, another opportunity for Yennefer to peak through the door ajar, to see her witcher’s back, his gaze drawn down, in the middle of a deep breath. The softly lit room made him appear almost as a statue, his sharply defined body looking smoother. She watched for a while, the steady rise and fall of his back and shoulders, the faded loose chemise he wore, his hair dropping around his shoulders and toward his face. She’d think him peaceful if she didn’t know any better. She did, of course. She tended to.
After a minute or two of just looking, (a gift she admitted she often took for granted, after everything they’d been through,) Yennefer pushed the door open just a bit, and it creaked in greeting. Geralt didn’t stir, but took a deeper breath than usual, and she only waited a moment before slowly stepping into the room.
“May I?”
Geralt went stiller, if at all possible, before raising his head and tilting it in invitation. She crossed to him, wrapped her arms around his middle, and planted a soft kiss against his back, burying her head in his shoulder.
“Hi,” he rumbled softly.
“Hello,” she returned with another small kiss. Geralt lifted his arm and brought it around her shoulders, and she tucked in neatly to his side. She looked down at his hands, and finally, there, the culprits lay. Two small strips of fine quality parchment, worn from how often Geralt had held them. Each had a fine filigree along the edges, and along the top read, “Toussaint Annual Bardic Festival”. Below, in neat calligraphy, one ticket read “Geralt of Rivia”, and with a slow sinking in her stomach, Yennefer read the next, identical in all ways save the center, which in small letters read “in memory of” above the gentle curl of the name “Jaskier, Julian Alfred Pankratz”. The bottom of both strips read two dates, the first a week and a day from then, the second a week later.
“Tickets,” Geralt sighed. She hated herself for not having figured it out before. Geralt and Jaskier had gone to the local festival every summer for thirty years, and she hadn’t even realized it was time— how had she forgotten? She’d never… gone, to be fair. She’d heard stories and had made the journey with them more than once, but it was Geralt and Jaskier’s time, and she’d let them have it to themselves. He’d let her have the autumn harvest markets with their witcher, so it’d only seemed fair, but now her heart ached to know she’d never seen the streets of Beauclair cleared, the frivolous banners hung, the tawdry vestments, the excruciating recitation of poetry— she’d never seen it with him. She never would, now, never see his eyes light up at the sights and sounds, the great wave of applause from fans as he bowed after a new song.
Were those tears? Fuck.
It was stupid. The only thing they’d shared was Geralt, after all. And Corvo Bianco. And, to a lesser extent, Ciri. And, she supposed, over 50 years of history. And friendships. And sometimes, a bed.
That was nothing. That should be nothing, to her.
“We usually go together,” Geralt says, as though that needs explaining. But he’d barely talked in weeks, so she let him go on. “He worked so hard to give patronage. Took him years. Was really proud of it. We’d already been going for years at that point, usually stayed the whole week. It was… tradition, you know. Made me promise…” he took a shuttering breath, “made me promise to keep going. Every year. Don’t know how I can, really, those streets are his. That whole place was just… his, you know? They ate out of his hand. It was,” Geralt laughed, and it was thick and wet, “it was something to see.” She could feel the lift of his arm as he ran his shirtsleeve across his eyes, but Yennefer’s eyes were trained on the tickets. She couldn’t look away.
No wonder Geralt had spent so much time in here.
“So, I’m supposed to go to this, and there’s a ticket for him, and it’s just…” she felt him shake his head. “I don’t know. It’s all his, it always was, I don’t know what the point is. They came… a month ago? Something like that, and a note that they’d be sent ‘in perpetuity’, as a gift for his support. But how can I…” The stood in silence, and Yennefer held to Geralt tighter. For her own sake, really. The world had begun to feel… drifty.
“I want to do right by him. But I’m just supposed to go, year after year, and watch as they forget him? As he fades away? It’s a fucking curse.”
“Sometimes I’m afraid I’ve forgotten his laugh,” Yennefer admitted, and she felt like a fucking child, and couldn’t bring herself to mind that, much.
Geralt nodded. “Mm. Or the— the way his nose wrinkled if something had—"
“Green peppers,” they said together around a laugh.
They stood there, wrapped in each other, and Geralt let a hand come up to stroke Yennefer’s hair as she tucked her nose into Geralt’s chest, on what she belatedly realized was one of the bard’s old chemises. “Let me give you something,” Geralt mumbled, and Yennefer opened up her mind, drew up, and went to go digging in his. But the memory he wanted her to see didn’t need to be dug for at all; he was practically throwing it at her, and she found herself enveloped in the sights and sounds of the streets of Beauclair all done up for the festival. Bright banners hung from windows and beside her, someone was selling some warm pastry out of a stall. She turned and there was Jaskier, maybe 60, that touch of gray dusting his temples that had so quickly taken over his whole head. His eyes were bright and shining and he was rambling on about something. He beamed, bright as the sun, and she felt the ghost of his touch as he wrapped a hand around her— around Geralt’s— upper arm.
She opened her eyes back to the dim study, and it was like a bubble has popped in her chest. She pulled away to look up at him, his eyes still cast on the tickets in his hand.
“Take me instead,” she said before she could even think to say it. “I’ll go. Show me everything I never got to see with him.”
Geralt looked down at her, frowning slightly, and for the first time that night they looked at each other, and she saw his face was full of warring grief and pain and hurt and confusion. There were two tracks of dried tears there, and she wondered what her own face looked like, at that point. She hated not knowing. She must look a mess.
“I don’t…” he sighed. “You’re not much for poetry,” he said, sounding more like a question.
“I could be,” she insisted.
“I just…” He took a deep breath, and she could practically see him trying to arrange the words just right for her. She’d grown more patient with him, something she’d learned from Jaskier. “I don’t know if I can go if you’re not enjoying it. It’s always been… his, and he was so happy there. I don’t want… I don’t want to taint it. With my sadness. Or seeing you… not enjoy yourself.”
“We’re going to be sad,” she said plainly. “We’re going to be sad, that’s just how that is. But… it was his. So there’s a piece of him there, and we can enjoy it. I won’t spoil the fun, and I wouldn’t ask to go if I didn’t think I would have a good time. I know I’m not a replacement for him—” she raised her hand to stop Geralt before he interrupted, “—nor do I need to be, nor do I wish to be, nor would I ever presume to be. It won’t be the same. But he wanted you to go— and if you want to go, I want to go with you. I want to enjoy it.”
Something in her nose stung. Geralt swallowed thickly. This shouldn’t have been anything.
She closed her eyes and remembered the memory Geralt had given her, recalled her own of Jaskier’s ramblings and smiles and soon she was tumbling through them, remembering even their spats and quarrels and it overwhelmed.
Wasn’t she supposed to be above this?
“Nothing,” she suddenly remembered Jaskier saying once, “is above song, or poetry. Some things are above words, but that is exactly why we write.” It had been a cool day in Oxenfurt, and on a whim she’d snuck into one of his guest lectures, and stayed behind after to give him a purposefully difficult time. It had all been barbs for a while, but had ended up turning into a real conversation, something they did not often permit themselves.
“So,” she’d asked, “what, is writing just an approximation of something so… big, grand, you can’t name it? What’s the use of words at all, then? There are other ways to convey something that don’t bother to use words at all. Surely they’d be more fitting for such things.”
He’d smiled widely. “We sing, write, tell stories, because after it’s all over, when we’re gone, you can carry it with you. You can’t carry a massive painting around and share it with someone else, and even if you could, it wouldn’t be the same. When you sing, you participate in the story, Yennefer. It’s never about the words. It’s about the people inside of them, and behind them. It’s about carrying someone else. Someones, really. Everyone. The whole world as it is, and was, and everyone to come.”
She hadn’t had much to say to that. She didn’t really get it, then, much as she thought she had.
And now, here she was. Bastard. Probably chuckling from beyond the grave. Smug as shit with a grin to match.
“Okay,” Geralt finally said. “Yeah.”
“We can?” Yennefer asked, yet again feeling so young and so… eager. She wanted to see the damn festival, now. Wanted to revel in it and let Jaskier be right, wanted to be carried by those songs and carry them with her in return.
“Yeah,” Geralt smiled, and his eyes crinkled in a way she hadn’t seen them do in ages. He nodded and tried valiantly to sound serious. “There are these fried pastries there, we’ll have to get some. Requirement, actually. For entrance. Multiple times a day.”
“Oh, of course. And we have to pick up some new volumes for the collection. Legally, we must,” she agreed soberly.
It was only a moment before they broke again, and she buried her face in his chest, in the warm linen of Jaskier’s old shirt, felt Geralt’s arms come to circle her, and the two began to rock side by side in something approaching a dance. They stayed like that, swaying silently as the crickets and cicadas of the valley chorused away, filling the room with a natural music and rhythm she’d grown to appreciate recently.
“I miss him,” Geralt whispered into Yennefer’s hair. She could feel him crying again. “I love him, I miss him, I miss him so much, fuck.”
“I know. I know.” She tangled the shirt in her hands tighter. Cradled the back of Geralt’s neck with another hand. And soon they were smiling again, not in spite of the grief, but because of it.
At some point, Geralt slipped the second ticket into her hand, and she looked down at it, and could not look away. Toussaint Annual Bardic Festival, in memory of Jaskier, Julian Alfred Pankratz. She read it over and over, until it sounded to her like a song.

Survey #467
“oh, mary, mary, ain’t this fun?  /  mary, mary, i’ve got a gun”
If the last person you kissed asked you to marry them, what would you do? Pray to god it wasn't in public and tell him it's waaaay too soon for that one. Does your favorite uncle have any children? Yeah, a son and daughter. Name all the members (first, middle and last names) from your favorite band. Ha, it's funny how once upon a time, I could do this. All I've got now is John Michael Osbourne. Have you ever heard a young child swear? Maybe? Have you ever seen someone get a piercing/tattoo?: Yes to both. Has a taste of something ever made you smile? Boy meet me at The Cheesecake Factory and see what my face does lmaooo As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up? I wanted to be a paleontologist sooo badly. I wanted to discover new dinosaurs, put a shitload of work into unearthing fossils and being so proud to see the final results... Even now as an adult, if I could handle the heat, traveling, and hardcore school, I'd still love to do that. Would you cuss the person you hate the most out to their face? No. My hatred for her is unjustified and I'd rather just not say anything to her. Have you ever spent more than two weeks in a wheelchair? No. Where do you see your closest friend in ten years? As one of the strongest people around. I imagine her with a job in medical coding, while also pursuing the hobbies of ball python breeding and writing. I'm sure she'll have loads of pets to love, too! Do you like Florence + The Machine? I've never listened to them. Did you watch the presidential debates? No. Do you ever watch Dr. Phil? No. Are you typically unattracted to people outside of your race? No; I can be attracted to any race. Have you ever ridden any animal other than a horse? No. Do you brush your hair when it’s wet? Yes. Do you eat the crusts of your bread? Yeah, I always have. Have you ever flown a kite? Yeah! At my childhood home, there was a tobacco field directly across the street, and when they weren't in season so the field was flat, Dad would help us with getting kites set up and in the air. Those are good memories. How are you for money? I don't make any money. Mom is struggling. Do you think you are more intelligent than the average person? Ha, no. Do you ever think about why we are here? Does it matter? We're here, so make the most of it. Do you like cherries? I fucking hate cherries. Name a celebrity that you admire that nobody would expect you to: Jeffree Star, probs. Can you use a yoyo? Not well, but yeah. Do you think Jenna Marbles’ videos are funny? I've actually never watched her. Do you like folk music? NOOOOOOOOO Ever had a crush on somebody of the same sex? Yes. Do you know any lesbians? Yep. Favourite member of your favourite band: I'm unfamiliar with all but Ozzy himself. And Ozzy is rad. Who’s your favourite female rapper? I don't have one. When you were younger, were you ever in a relationship with someone you now realize was way too old for you? No. Have you ever had a seizure? No. I sometimes have very, very quick spasms when I'm falling asleep that feel like what I assume a seizure would, but they barely last a second. They seriously jerk me awake, though, and are very startling. What’s the oldest man-made object you own? I dunno. Is there anything you feel like you need a break from? Not really, no. What do you hate to hear people joke about? I will actually and remorselessly deck you in the jaw if you make a joke about rape. There are other things that are absolutely forbidden joking matters for me, too. What’s the largest animal you’ve seen in the wild? Hmmm... Nothing that big, really. Maybe a whitetail deer buck? Do any of your friends or family members have strange occupations? Not to my knowledge. Have you ever been in weather so severe that you feared for your safety? Oh yeah. We've had some savage thunderstorms. What political issues are the most important to you personally? LGBTQ+ rights and just equality in general, the pro-choice movement, environmental conservation, gun control, the abolishment of poverty and homelessness... There is honestly a lot. I could keep going. Do you know anyone who doesn’t know how to cook even just simple recipes? ... Me. :x Especially now that I'm in a relationship, I really want to make a greater effort to learn. I want to prove to him I give a damn about the success of our relationship and that I'm capable of being an adult that can take part in general adult responsibilities. ^What’s stopping them from learning this basic life skill? Laziness. Forgetfulness. The fear of getting burned. What small thing makes you automatically distrust someone? I can pick up on sketchy body language from a mile away. I'm too paranoid not to. Of all the states/provinces in your country, which one is your favorite? At least from photographs I've seen, Utah appears BEAUTIFUL. That whole region of the U.S. in general. Are there any obscure foods you’ve eaten that most people have never tried? That's very unlikely. I'm far from explorative with food. When you travel to other countries, do you always try the local cuisine? I've never been outside the U.S. I would probably do that, though. I'd really want to experience the culture as thoroughly as I could. What did you do for your 19th birthday? Hell if I remember. What’s the kindest thing a total stranger has done for you? I remember as a young kid, my parents, two sisters, and I were getting food at McDonald's, and whoever was in front of us paid for our meals. Such a sweet gesture for a larger family. Have you ever used a meal kit delivery service? No, but there actually is one that I can't recall the name of that I'd like to try when I cook myself, especially getting started learning, but yeah, subscription fees. You see a lot of YouTubers get sponsored by them, if that rings a bell. Do you have any psychological issues rooted in events from your childhood? Possibly my fear of men, with my dad having been an alcoholic that had a 50/50 chance of being very angry when drunk. How organized are the files on your computer? Pretty organized, I'd say. I put stuff into folders. Would you date someone with braces? Yes? Do you ever rehearse conversations before you have them? Only always. Do you get angry at yourself or at others more often? Myself, for sure. When taking a cab, do you talk to the driver? I've never even taken a cab. Who or what greets you at the door every time you come home? Nobody, really. My cat is occasionally in the living room to see who's home, but not always because he's a lazy cat, ha ha. Do you ever chat about your favourite video games with your friends? Not really, no. I wish. Have you ever supported anyone’s Kickstarter? If so, what was it? No, bc I'm poor. Are you currently studying a language? If so, which one? No. Ever had a friend online for a long time without seeing a photo of them? Yeah. Do you carry pepper spray? No, but I want some 'cuz I'm paranoid as hell. Are you waiting on anything right now? No. Have you ever been described as shy? Is it true? Oh, always. It's absolutely true. Name something you’re a complete sucker for? Baby animals, to name one thing. Do you remember when you first went on the internet? Nope. What is one way someone could completely put you off on a first date? Arrogance/over-confidence. What about a way someone could make you like them more on a first date? Make me genuinely laugh a lot, to name one way. Are you in love right now? Not yet. I love him with our decade of history, but I need more experience as a couple before I've got the confidence to say that. Do you wanna get married anytime soon? It wouldn't be smart to. I want to be in a strong relationship for quite a few years before I want that. Have you ever kissed someone in a band? No. Has someone ever made you a Build-A-Bear? No but oh my fucking god I wish!!!!!! Did your mom or dad ever put soap in your mouth? No, but Mom would threaten to. What was the last fruit you ate? Well, I had strawberry yogurt earlier today. Who was the last person to make you laugh? Girt. He is very, very good at that. Have you ever dated someone with more piercings than you? No. Would you kiss the last person you kissed again? Hell yeah man. Is there one night of your life you wish had never happened? I wish it hadn't happened the way it did. Do you have a close relationship with your sibling(s)? No. What was the last thing that you shared? Some watermelon Sour Patch Kids with my mom. Do you think people talk behind your back? You couldn't get me to believe my mom doesn't at least sometimes to my sisters even if you tried your absolute damnedest. In real life do you laugh like ‘haha,’ 'hehe’ or something else? It depends on what I'm laughing at/at what intensity. Do you have any unusual skills? Nah. Who’s your favourite person? I don't have a sole favorite person. I love many people in different ways for varying reasons. Are there any chores you actually enjoy doing? No. When did you last have an "Oh, I get it now!" moment? Watching Attack on Titan yesterday w/ Girt. Have your parents ever suspected something untrue about you? My mom HAD to have suspected I was doing something FAR worse than innocent meerkat RP to have borderline fucking traumatized me invading my privacy and forcing shit out of me regarding what I was always doing on the computer so secretively. Like I get it, she was a concerned mother, but I was a fucking WRECK because I found it so embarrassing. It was insulting that she didn't trust her well-behaved daughter. What do you think about video games? They're great for both the creators and consumers. They're wonderful expressions of creativity, and so much fun to experience as a player, delving into a new world and getting engrossed in the story. I could go onnnn and onnnnn about what video games mean to me. I've gone my whole life as a loyal gamer. Are there any forms of Art you personally find pointless? I really, really don't get a lot of abstract art that's worth fucking thousands, BUT, I absolutely disagree that they are without purpose. The artist created what they did for SOME reason. As a distraction, a method of expressing emotion, to convey an idea... Are you tired right now? I have been SO ridiculously tired today. Like it's unreal. I've taken I wanna say three naps and I'm still sleepy. What’s something you do a lot? Drink something. I'm not talking about alcohol; just in general, I ALWAYS need some kind of drink by me, and I go through drinks pretty quickly. Are you currently on any other websites? Yeah, I'm watching YouTube. Are you good at using Photoshop? I'm decent, I guess. Have you ever been told you naturally tilt your head a certain way? Yes, actually, at least by my mom, and she's right. My head tends to tilt VERY slightly to the right, and I can tell by how easy it is to bend my head that way as opposed to left. I'll feel a biiiit more strain.

I ain’t afraid of no skeleton
Pairing: Steve x F!Reader
Summary: It’s a Halloween party at the Tower and Steve dresses up as the only one things that doesn’t scare the bejesus out of you.
Warnings: Angts, Fluff, Avengers being sweethearts, a happy ending ( is that a warning?)
A/N: So I wrote this a bit late for The Spooky Writing Challenge of the amazing @barnesrogersvstheworld . I had so much fun writing it especially that I had so much stuff on my head lately and still have so it was an amazing get away for me. I do apologise for any mistakes. English is not my mother tongue, but I am doing my best I promise :) This is also my first challange thing, so please be gentle <3
Words: 3740+
Tumblr media
You never liked Halloween. Once because your parents never let you go out with any of your friends, and second you were a proper chicken. It was easy to scare you, and as much as you never believed in ghosts, zombies and other anomalies, you were still terrified.
You chuckled, however, seeing all the skeleton hanging about. As a scientist, skeletons never scared you. Fascinated? Yes. Scared? Never.
It always made you smile whenever you saw the decorations, and being a part of the Avengers tower team, you were mentally prepared for the place to look like a haunted house. After all Tony Stark owned the place. And if someone was about to make it a big wow, then it had to be Tony Stark.
"Spooky", you tensed hearing a chuckle behind you. The one and only Captain America seemed to live to spend his lunch in your lab. You never understood why, but you never minded. He always brought you coffee and something new he tried out cooking or when you made something you thought he would like, you texted him and brought it. It became a routine for both of you. Something you enjoyed. Mostly because you had an enormous crush on the Golden Boy of America. But who were you kidding? You were just one of many people that worked in the tower, and Captain America was just being nice and friendly.
"Yeah, I guess..." you chuckled, thanking him for the cup of coffee he had brought with him. "Am not a fan of Halloween, if I'm honest." He raised his brow and just now realised you only had some skeleton hanging around, nothing more. "I'm a chicken by nature and all those spooky stuff scares me", you pouted hearing him chuckle.
"But no skeletons?" He asked, sitting opposite you at your little table.
"I'm a scientist, Mr Rogers. I ain't afraid of no skeleton" you smiled, hearing his booming smile. You felt proud whenever you were able to make that sound come out. He looked so carefree and beautiful. His mesmerising eyes shined then, making your knot at stomach even tighter. "Ghosts and zombies are a different story though..." you added, making him laugh even more at your adorable face.
"A scientist that believes in ghosts and zombies?"
"From a biological point of view it is possible for zombies to exist... someday," you smirked and bit your lip. "You for example. An amazing example of one. You died and came back to life." He opened his mouth to say something, but only another fit of laughter came out.
"Does that mean you're afraid of me?" He asked in a joking matter, making you chuckle. "I'll dress up as a skeleton for the party. Just to make sure you won't ran away."
**
You promised Tony to bake some of your popular cookies and muffins for the afterparty. Not being able to say no, you were now solemnly tired but happy to see over 50 muffins and 100 cookies on the counter.
"I know that smell!" You turned and smiled at Sam and Bucky who walked into the kitchen.
"Holy cow, doll, you have outdone yourself!" Barnes whistled under his nose seeing all the different Halloween sweets sitting around the kitchen. "Stark should pay you for that", he joked giving you a friendly peck on the cheek, followed by Wilson.
"Please tell me you made some extra for us to try...?" The Falcon asked, smirking at you. Raising your brow you chuckled, unable to fight his puppy eyes. Who would have thought the ex-soldier would have such a sweet tooth. You handed him the cupcakes from the plate away from the others and blushed to hear his happy groans.
"Here." You turned to Barnes giving him a different looking cupcake. "I know you're not a fan of sweets, but a little bird told me once you used to love cheesecake. They probably are not as good as you ate back in those days. But maybe you'll enjoy it", you noticed a little blush on his cheeks and he thanked you with a small smile.
"You are an angel, I hope you know that" he murmured between the bites. You were proud of yourself noticing his smile and the speed he devoured his sweet. "Whoever will be lucky enough to court you, I'm already jealous." You laughed at him, slowly putting all the cupcakes away, leaving the plate for the avengers to eat before the party. "Strawberry cupcakes? I wonder who are they for", you tenses hearing a cheeky tone of the ex Winter Soldier.
"I... I heard he used to be allergic to those. Plus they were quite expensive in the 30s... and I noticed him snacking on them now so..." you are probably more red than tomato, hating the fact that the boys in front of her knew about her stupid crush on the Captain.
"That's adorable", Sam smiled at you in a weirdly encouraging way. "So is this the way you will use to tell him about your feelings?"
"No!" You squealed, making them chuckle at your reaction. "I... I couldn't... look at him and then me. I am not worthy to even think that someone as amazing as him would even consider me... you know..." Just as Wilson was about to say something, the doors to the kitchen opened and the source of the topic walked in.
"Oh!! I know that smell!!" You chucked at his huge grim and shining eyes. "You will make us fat, Y/N!" He joked walking towards the three of you.
"Here", you pushed the special cupcake to him, smiling sweetly. "I gotta go, got some paperwork to do. I will see you guys at the party." You waved at them and left the room.
**
"She's adorable", Rogers looked at Wilson, who was still gazing at the doors that you just used to leave. His brow furrowed. A weird, uneasy feeling appeared in his stomach, with his friends complement. "I think I'm gonna ask her out", Cap's eyes widened, and Bucky could not help but smirk. Their friend was the best guy there is, but he was tense and awful with women. He was almost sure that the big guy was worse than the skinny one in the 30s. "What do you think, Cap?"
"If... if you like her...", he answered, but his voice low and husky. If Sam did not know better, he'd think his friend would kill him now, from the way he looked at him. "I mean. She is a great dame... I mean girl. A woman. She's a great woman."
"So why the hell have you no asked her out yet?" Bucky finally asked, feeling sorry for his life long friend. Barnes was happy to see Steve smile whenever he was with you. You little lunch dates that none of you actually called dates, were adorable. Even Natasha found it cute, whenever Steve walked into the building with extra coffee and a muffin, two or seven. He liked you and it was not a secret that you liked him. But of course, none of you would say anything. You were both too stubborn to even realise how good you were for each other.
"She's a friend. That's all she sees in me..." the blonde answered ashamed to even talk about it.
"Oh Steve, you're an idiot!" Sam laughed out loud. "You have dates practically every damn lunch. You spend more time with her than with anyone of us. And she doesn't seem to mind that. Come on, man. She made you special strawberry cupcakes. Did you know she hates them? Even the smell makes her sick and yet she made them just for you."
Rogers was looking at Wilson with shock. Of course, he knew all that, but hearing it from his friends' lips had a different impact.
He smiled saying goodbye to his friends. After all, there was a party tonight and he needed to get ready and get into the ridiculous costume he bought especially for you.
**
You were never a party person. You much more preferred to stay in the corner with your drink and watch people.
But this night was different. You did not enjoy looking at that one person. He looked really great in his Jack Skellington costume. You felt your heartache for him for dressing as a skeleton. Some part of you thought he did it for you. But seeing all the women surrounding him, you were sure anymore. All of them were beautiful, skinny and willing to give themselves to him. Who were you to even think that he dress up like that for you?
"You seem miserable, my dear bakery queen", you rolled your eyes hearing Stark's voice.
"Are you drunk already, Tony?" You joked, smiling at him when he landed on the couch next to you.
"No. I'm leaving this for the after-party. Plus pepper would kill me." You couldn't help but chuckle at his fear of his wife. "You know... from what I gathered he is not enjoying any of that women's company." You looked at him and smiled sadly. Apparently everyone knew about the crush you had. How sad.
"Well, he does from here." You answered and got up slowly trying to keep your eyes away from the Captain. "Another whisky, Tony?" He shook his head. His smirked disappeared seeing your sadness. You gave him one of your most beautiful fake smiles and went to the pub. One more drink won't ruin you. But it may be easier to look at the hordes of women lining up to 'talk' to Captain America.
"I have never seen you drink more than one drink before, Sally." You raised humour brow looking at your witch costume. "If his Jack than you're Sally right?" Natasha smirked at you, putting a drink in front of you.
"Quite ironic, heh?" You chuckled, sitting on one of the stools. "Poor Sally wasn't able to show her affection either." You took a deep breath and a sip of the drink. "But we're not the same. In the end, she managed to do it, and Jack returned the love."
"And what makes you think Steve isn't your Jack?" You blew a raspberry at her question.
"Look at all those women there. They are all beautiful and probably better than me in every aspect. Steve would be an idiot to chose me." You laughed trying to hide the pain behind those words. You shook your head to silently tell Romanoff to leave the subject. "I'm gonna go rest a bit before the after-party..." you finished the drink in one gulp and went to your room. It's not that you even planned on coming later but this was a good excuse. At least that's what you hoped.
You exhaled deeply happy to be away from the room. There were too many people, too many questions you didn't know the answers to.
"Hey, where are you going?" You froze hearing the voice you didn't really want to hear right now. Yo stopped and put a fake smile on, before turning around. There he was. Looking so good and adorable in his Jack costume. "Did all the zombies scared you off?" He joked, walking closer to you.
"You never know which one of them are real", you answered in the same manner, making him chuckle.
"Don't worry!" He beamed straightening a bit more with a huge grin on his face. "Your skeleton is here to protect you." Your breath hitched and eyes widen. Your. You bit your lip and looked away feeling pain in your chest. When you realised that he will never be yours, and you will never be his. "Unless this scares you as well?" You looked up at him and smiled at him back seeing his soft one.
"I told you, I ain't afraid of no skeleton!" You answered making his smile grow.
"Are you ok, though? You left the party pretty early." You swallowed hard not knowing what to answer. "Nat said you went for a rest. You feeling alright, doll?" Your heart skipped a bit at the pet name. You noticed he wasn't talking like that to any of the other girls, but you still just assumed he was just comfortable with you.
"I'm not good with crowds." You answered softly, calling for the elevator. "I just wanted to rest before the after-party."
"Y/N" you turned around when you heard his serious tone. "You know you can talk to me if something bothers you, right?" You smiled at him with a sad look on your face. How you wish you could tell him about all that you want. But you just shook your head and smiled
"I'm ok, Steve. Go back to the party. Go find yourself your own Sally." And before he was able to respond you walked to the elevator and watched the doors closing.
"What If I already found one?" Rogers whispered when you were gone.
**
You hated and loved Natasha at same time. But her little sneaky idea was so stupid. You could not really rest. The moment you stepped into your room she followed you like a lost puppy.
"This is ridiculous", you murmured looking at your make up and the weird dress that Nat brought with you. "He is going to freak out! Nat... he doesn't feel the same way! He is just a good friend..."
"Well, every Jack needs his Sally," she said, ignoring everything that you just said. You exhaled loudly, tired to fight with her. "He's gonna love it! And seriously, have some more faith in yourself. You are a beautiful, smart, kind woman, he would be an idiot if he didn't want you." You blushed, internally thankful for a friend like Nat. "Ok, done! Looking amazing!" She cheered and you smiled. You had to admit, she made an amazing job.
"Ok, let's get that over with", you sighed letting her drag you to the whole other level of the building where the party was holding.
**
You weren't sure what you were thinking, but right now you just wanted to disappear. You sank into the couch and wondered why you even came here.
The party was on for more than an hour now. When you walked in looking like Sally, Steve looked positively surprised. He laughed a bit and you talked for a while. It was nice. Comfortable and made you think that maybe he does feel something to you.
But then he went to get you both a drink and never came back. He was sitting there with a beer in his hand talking and laughing with Sharon. You knew there was something between the two of them, but you hoped it was over. However, looking at the two of them, you realised that they looked really good together.
Your gaze landed on him. He looked more relaxed with her. His laugh reached his beautiful eyes and he looked like there was nothing on his shoulders. You wondered what she was telling him, that made him look so adorable and carefree.
You just now realised that it wasn't just a stupid crush anymore. You loved him and he didn't feel the same way.
"You'll burn a hole in his head if you keep on gazing at him like that", you looked to the right to see Sam sitting next to you. "What is it? Where is that beautiful smile that was there just minutes ago?" You bit your lip and took a deep sip of your drink.
"It's with him", you answered sadly. "He looks really happy, right?" He frowned and looked at his friend. There was an ache in his heart seeing you so sad.
"Come on", he stood up and took your hand pulling you towards the dance floor. It wasn't big and you felt all the eyes on you.
"I can't dance" you whispered, making him chuckle. One of his hand was on the back of your waist and the other tangled in your hand.
"Close your eyes and trust me. Just relax." So you did. You closed your eyes, leaned your head on his chest and smiled a little, actually enjoying the slow song. You felt so calm now. You didn't care about the Avengers looking at the two of you. You didn't care about Sharon and Steve flirting. There you were. Sally dancing with Dracula and you really enjoyed it. "Don't ever let a man dictate how you feel, no matter who that man is, you hear me baby girl?" You sniffed and nodded, your cheeks still pressed to his chest. "You are worth so much if you only believe in yourself."
**
You actually had fun throughout the party. After Sam thanked you for the dance, Tony took you for a next one, making you laugh with his inappropriate jokes and pick up lines, that made you wonder how he was able to catch someone like Pepper with that.
After some drinks Bucky took you for something which he described as 30s dance. You felt like burning all the calories you had today, but you laughed so much that your jaw hurt. Clint and Nat took you for a stupid a la 90s dance which was joined by Thor who than danced with you to slower dance, showing you some Asgsrdian moves. Before you knew you danced with everyone. You were even able to have a drink with Loki who seemt to be more and more open to the people of Earth.
You were so occupied with everyone that you forgot about Steve. You havent looked his way the entire time. Haven't noticed how he said goodbye to Sharon who walked away with a guy named Bill that was just late for a party and was ready to take his girl back home now that he was free. You haven't noticed the look on his face whenever there was a slower dance and you were pressed close to the other man. A man that wasn't him. You didn't notice the sad smile on his lips whenever you laughed. He found you so beautiful, but was sad at the same time that he wasnt the one to bring that mesmerising sound out of you. And you haven't immediately noticed how he left the party to go to the balcony to get some air.
You only noticed the last thing when you yourself needed some fresh air. All the dancing, laughing, talking and incredible amount of alcohol made you a bit more tipsy than you planned on becoming tonight.
"Jacky?" He turned around a small smirk appeared on his lips seeing you closing the balcony doors behind you. You walked closer, leaning forward you stopped next to him. "What's wrong, Jacky?"
"Does that make you Sally?" He asked playfully turning towards you. You chuckled and turned around to show your dress.
"Indeed I am. Nat thought it would be funny. I feel stupid though", he frowned not understanding. Feeling a bit braver thanks to the alcohol you turned to look st the city and smiled sadly. "Sharon would fit better as your Sally."
"My Sally?" He asked not taking his eyes off of you. Despite looking like a dead doll you still looked beautiful in his eyes. The way you had fun today pained him a bit. It meant you were able to enjoy yourself so much without him there.
"Well Nat has this absurd idea that you may feel something towards me..." he tensed a bit, but you never stopped. "I really don't know how someone like you would like me back, but well Natasha was always a bit weird... but yeah. So I saw you with Sharon. You really do look good together and..."
"Like you back?" He interjected making you widened your eyes and swallow hard. You were talking faster than thinking and now you were regretting the words that left your lips.
"I... I mean..." you widened your eyes seeing his smirk. "I should go." You were about to turn and leave the balcony, when he stopped you, holding you by the wrist.
"I don't dress up", he started. The smile present on his lips and eyes shining. You braved enough to look up and took a deep breath seeing the way he was looking at you. "Sharon and I have history. We understand each other, we're friends and this is it." He pulled you closer to him, but gently enough not to halt you. "I dressed up in this absurd costume because you told me skeletons are the only things you're not afraid of." There was a blush on his cheeks when he continued. "When I saw you changed to Sally my heart skipped a beat. I thought it was my chance, but... but you were ignoring me the whole night... I was so happy to see you relax and have fun but... I wanted to be the reason to see that smile on your lips."
"I thought you were back with Sharon and it broke my heart to see you both together..." you started, looking down at your shoes. "I always thought I was not good enough for you, so today when I saw you talk with her I decided to give up on my feelings..."
"Not good enough for me?" He chuckled shaking his head in disbelief. "You are the most amazing woman I know. Sweet, smart, kind hearted, and not to mention beautiful." He bit his lip and put two of his fingers under your jaw lifting it up. "God. I can't believe even for a second you thought were not good enough..." he shook his head and leaned down putting his forehead to yours.
You closed your eyes and smiled happily. The heat radiating from him killed whatever chill you felt from the cold temperature. His hands moved from your shoulders down to your waist, pulling you closer.
"Your heart is beating really fast, doll", you couldn't help but chuckle at his super hearing. "Are you afraid?" He asked only half-jokingly. His eyes were moving from your eyes to your lip. It melted your heart. This amazing man was waiting for your permission. You bit your lip and rounded your arm on his neck, getting him closer to you. And before you closed the distance between the two of you, you whispered cheekily.
"I already told you. I ain't afraid of no skeleton!"

So, I only have one scar and it’s tiny, just above my right eye. I used to jump into my dad’s armchair when he was at work because it was a rocking chair, so it would tip back when I jumped. It was old, so the foot rest had a bit with the wood peaking out. I ran up to the chair, but somehow tripped and hit the wood just above my eye.
I was a pretty whiny toddler, but I was so surprised and stunned by hurting myself that I didn’t make a sound. I went to show my mom, who didn;t even look up at first, thinking I was just saying I hurt myself for attention (something I did do sometimes because my older brother took up so much attention). She then turned and screamed because she thought I cut my actual eye. She called my dad, a firefighter and EMT, he came down and it was just a deep cut.
That bad boy fucks with my eyeshadow blending, but you can barely see it.
What did you do today that made someone else happy?

chapter three - a family reunion
steve and robin had just finished closing up the video store and took the short three minute car ride to larry johnson’s town favorite diner. robin and steve were laughing amongst themselves and bantering along until they heard a voice.
“do suppose linda will remember me?”
the two turned to see sofia, cigarette in mouth, only a couple of yards away, walking towards them. steve smiled at her and began to speak but her attention was on robin who was still looking at her with the most gentle of smiles.
“i hope she remembers you, she always gave us discounts when you tagged along. ive had to pay full price for almost three years because of you” he walked past, ignoring the two girls he was with. steve harrington had one thing on his mind and one thing only. a royale with cheese. hehe pulp fiction reference the girls broke their eye contact to then walk behind him, sofia taking the cigarette out of her mouth to throw it to the ground and put it out whilst holding the door open for robin and quickly following her to be met with upmost nostalgia.
an older woman, probably in her early 50s, began to yell from behind the counter.
“IS THAT WHO I THINK IT IS? I MUST HAVE SKIPPED AHEAD AND GONE STRAIGHT TO CRAZY!”
sofia moved past the two, lightly touching robin’s arm, causing a chill to radiate throughout her body. sofia was smiling as she walked to the woman and embraced her in a long hug. the woman released her but not before she could cup her face in her hands to see her face more clearly, despite the pain that was radiating through sofia’s body due to having to bend her spine in order to oblige. but she didn’t mind. this woman was her family.
“AH CUORE MIO italian for my heart WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN”
sofia smiled as she replied, “nella città che non dorme mai in the city that never sleeps ”
“i’m so sorry about your mother, have you seen her yet?”
the woman’s back was facing robin, as they had turned when hugging, and she had a full view of sofia’s face. she saw her smile fall, taking her heart along with it as sofia responsed to the salt and pepper haired woman with a sense of dread.
“no not yet. marco is there every time i drive by the hospital. i’m trying to though i promise”
“sei troppo buono per questo mondo, figlia mia you are too good for this world my daughter, but you also need to eat, sit sit i’ll bring out your favorite”
sofia smiled as she realigned her spine, walking behind steve as he hopped into the booth next to robin. robin was a bit disappointed steve sat next to her instead of the other side but at least she had to best view in the house.
sofia fell into the other side of the booth putting one knee to her chest and the other stretched over the seat what a lesbian as the older woman returned with a strawberry milkshake in hand and a smile.
she placed the cold beverage onto the table to then ask robin and steve what they would like to drink. steve snapped out of his staring contest with the milkshake to answer, “ill have one of those.” he paused for emphasis, “exactly one of those” he then winked at her.
robin chuckled and said “can i get the same but in vanilla”
sofia smiled at the woman as she moved the shake away from steve’s reaching capability, “thanks linda”
linda kept her eye on steve as he frowned at sofia’s action, “royale with cheese and extra ketchup?” steve shook his head eagerly. “and for you my dear?” robin liked linda. she saw her around town often but never came into the diner as much to be considered a regular like steve. “i’ll take one of your smoked turkeys with everything but the onions please” she didn’t even have to ask sofia, even if she brought out the wrong thing, she’d still eat it no matter what
“coming right up”
sofia was still eyeing steve eyeing her shake, “OH MY GOD JUST TAKE A SIP” and said as she slide the cold beverage towards him to which he eagerly sipped from the side of the glass and threw his head back in the most dramatic yet unironic way possible
“oh my god i forgot how amazing their shakes were. i came here all the time during summer but i was so damn tired of ice cream, i didn’t even think about ordering one”
sofia smiled as she took back the milkshake, “yeah dustin filled me in on everything i missed” she was now fiddling with the straw and paused to look at steve for emphasis, “and i mean everything. i can’t believe he’s got a girlfriend”
steve laughed thinking about the events of the summer, “yeah none of us thought she was actually real, but im happy for him, i also need to pee, be back in a sec” he hoped out of the seat, nearly hitting robin
sophia placed the milkshake down and met robin’s eyes, “wanna try it? i know it looks like a plain strawberry shake but there’s actually a secret in there”. she jokingly looked around before motioning for robin to come closer as she whispered, “there’s also bits of peach”
she leaned back into her original position and raised her eyebrows briefly showing she meant business
robin smiled as she took the glass and took a sip, “mm never thought about that combination, i like it a lot actually, w-what?”
sofia was laughing as robin talked, “its okay its okay, i got it” she leaned towards robin once again, this time putting her thumb on robin’s upper lip, wiping off the cream that had escaped. the two looked at each other’s eyes during the moment, until sofia’s eyes fell to her lips, robin’s doing the same before she abruptly returned back to her seat, followed by steve hopping back to his place and linda following only a few seconds later. if they had been in that position just a few seconds longer..
linda placed the three plates on the table as sofia reached into her jacket pocket, taking out her wallet until she was stopped by the woman, “la famiglia non paga the family doesn’t pay”
she began to walk away as sofia gave her a warm smile and robin began to speak, “i’m confused. you said hadn’t seen your mother yet, but linda calls you her daughter”
sofia smiled, “she’s my godmother and my mother’s best friend. she’s practically my mother though. i’ve known her my entire life”
steve was already stuffing his face with the burger, mouth already jam packed, “i like sofia’s mom better than my own mom right now”
robin felt warm, but not in the physical, heated kind of way. she felt melting as sofia’s words, “that’s sweet”
“she and my mother grew up together when they were being raised in italy. ma says she wouldn’t have survived mentally if it weren’t for her”
sofia didn’t look up as she spoke but she could feel robin’s eyes on her. and she didn’t mind it.
the three ate while steve caught sofia up on all of his latest strike outs and the crazy nights she missed out on and the whole nancy thing that repulsed both robin and sofia, despite nancy being another one of her old childhood friends. sofia asked robin about her life and her interests and the two asking sofia about her life in new york.
once the three of them had finished, they all got up to leave, sofia yelling at linda on her way out, “CI VEDIAMO PRESTO MAMMA ill see you soon mom” to which linda gave her a big smile and waved to then quickly return to the table she was taking care of
as the three exited the diner, sofia asked “do you need a ride?”
robin felt a bit taken back and wanted to say yes more than anything. she would definitely not mind being in a car with sofia, even if it was for just a few short minutes to her house
“you dont have to really, my bike is in steve’s trunk and im only like five minutes away”
sofia chuckled as she walked to steve’s car and opened the trunk, retrieving robin’s bike and carrying it to her car, “get in freckles, you’re on my way. see ya harrington.”
robin turned to steve who winked at her and turned to leave, “have fun”
robin turned back to see the messy haired girl closing her trunk and getting into her car. once robin got into the vehicle, sophia turned the radio on and asked for the address.
how soon is now by the smiths was playing and robin was reminded of the way she felt earlier that morning, when she first saw sofia at school can you tell i like the smiths
the two were silent as robin looked out of the window, but it was the most comfortable silence she had ever been in. she felt at peace. despite her and sofia both resting their arms of the glove compartment, their hands only about a centimeter apart. she was felt calm; safe.
robin’s thoughts were interrupted when she felt the car stop and she turned to sofia, “thanks for the ride” as she unbuckled. sofia stopped robin as she was about to get out of the car.
“can i ask you something”
robin saw the same look on her face as when she was talking to linda about her mom. robin nodded.
sofia breathed in before speaking, adjusting her body to face robin, “i know dustin told me you and him didn’t spend that much time together but..will..how was he?”
she looked anxious for the answer
“he was okay, steve told me about everything he had to go through so i imagine he isn’t the same boy you knew but there’s probably still parts of him in there. just like any of us when we go through some shit, its takes some, it leaves some”
sofia leaned back in her seat, now feeling the guilt build in her stomach
“i should have been here.”
robin was quick to reassure her, “you didn’t know it was going to happen. i don’t know why you left but i know it was something that none of us could have stopped. everything happens for a reason”
sofia chuckled, “what a clique; the beautiful teen philosopher who doodles on her converses and reads sad love stories with injustice undertones and wears an unsettling yet attractive amount of jewelry” her smile grew more and more as she spoke to then turn to robin who was slightly blushing and smiling back
“i won’t keep you captivate much longer but can i ask you one more question?”
robin nodded again, still looking into her eyes, smiling
“you and harrington?”
robin cut that shit off Q U I C K
“OH GOD NO NO NO he’s like my brother ew no i could never.” she realized how dramatic she sounded and laughed at sofia laughing at her. “i’m sorry. to answer your question, no. harrington and i, not a thing. he’s uhh not my type”
sofia felt better with that last statement leaving robin’s mouth. she scooted closer, but her arm on the arm rest and bringing her face close to her face, almost being able to feel her breathe.
robin was taken back mentally but didn’t move a muscle, she whispered “what are you doing”
robin jumped at the sound of the door opening a tease
“i’m just getting the door for you like the good mannered person i was raised to be”, we said with a smile and moved her face a centimeter closer. robin was almost certain she was going to kiss her until she whispered again “good night freckles”
robin got out of the car and walked to her door completely flustered but still managed to turn her head to give sofia a smile. she was, in fact, so flustered that completely forgot her bike in sofia’s car trunk, but she didn’t even care.
