Black Box Gallery - Dynamic: Shadow and Light
Tumblr media
Black Box Gallery is excited to announce a juried group photo show on shadow and light. Photography is the documentation of patterns of darkness and light. Shadows enhance the relationships of subjects in an image, they give definition and dimension, which complements the quality of the light values. Photographers have used dramatic shadows and patterns in black and white images and have also explored using ethereal and moody shadows and textures in color photography. We will be looking for a range of how shadow and light are interpreted by contemporary photographers.
DEADLINE: August 11, 2023

Frédéric Bazille, La Toilette, 1869
La Toilette depicts a rather traditional subject matter: the orientalist scene, perhaps as a way of appealing to a well known judge at the Academy who specialized in such subjects. While painting it, Bazille had excitedly written to his mother that he had found the most "ravishing model" but lamented that she was "ruinously expensive." It is believed that the woman on the right was one of Pierre August Renoir's mistresses, Lise Tréhot. The two had become friends after Tréhot modeled for Bazille in a previous picture.
Though it is now held by the Musée Fabre in Montpellier, Bazille painted La Toilette to be displayed at the Paris Salon of 1870, where the greatest art fair of the Western world would be held: the Académie des Beaux-Arts. If Bazille could land a spot exhibited there, his reputation would cemented in French art history as a master painter. However, the work would be rejected by the jury and in his shame, Bazille would never display it publicly.
This is one of the final pictures produced by Bazille before his untimely death in the Franco-Prussian War. Bravely taking command of the regiment after the injuring of his officer, Bazille was fatally hit with two bullets as he charged through enemy lines; he was killed right then and there on the battlefield. He was 28 years old.

Your Honor, I found a few things during my research of your story’s lore and I found a few things.
Exhibit A
Tumblr media
The way Sivith is reacting to holding Huey in one of the comics you and TC collaborated on is gentle and loving. This indicates on her part that she must have had a baby similar to him.
Exhibits B1 and B2.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The way Sivith’s facial expressions and reaction to the hinted reasons for keeping her scars show more evidence of the fact that something bad happened to her baby that she wouldn’t talk about until now.
Exhibit C1, 2 and 3
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In context, Gwen was able to see somewhat into Sivith’s mind and judge her emotional state. What she felt was severe emotional trauma that is deeply rooted in Sivith and the “Him” that is referenced here seems to correlate perfectly with this universe’ alternate version of Huey.
In summary for the Jury, Your Honor, Sivith either had this baby taken from her or the ones that attempted to take him accidentally killed him in the process, causing Sivith to spiral mentally to the point where she attacked Jericho solely because he kept company with Lakota, a human that was housing him and his daughter. This intern damaged their relationship and caused resentment and hate toward each other for a time.
The defense rests its case.
(Sorry for the ramble, I think I’ve seen too much of Law and Order 😅)
I don't blame you. It's a good show XD
I plead guilty to the lore charges lol
