Aastha Vidya Mandir Jawanga Students Shine at District-Level Startup Competition
Geedam/Dantewada/Chhattisgarh, 25 August 2024: On National Entrepreneurship Day 2024, the Institution's Innovation Council (IIC) Cell at NMDC DAV Polytechnic Jawanga organized a District-Level Startup Competition. This event brought together students from various schools in the Geedam and Dantewada blocks to present their innovative startup ideas.
In the competition, Savinlal Markam and Nitesh Madvi from Aastha Vidya Mandir English Medium School, Jawanga, secured second place with their innovative "Multidisciplinary Skill Tech Education and Training" startup idea, which they showcased in the poster exhibition. Other notable presentations included Rajesh Kunjam's proposal on Waste Management and Eco Products, Rashmita Tirkey's concept on Event Management and Services, and Lalita Gawade's initiative on Bastar Art & Culture to Environmentally Friendly startups.
The competition was part of a broader outreach program aimed at fostering entrepreneurship and innovation among students, a program supported by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). Dr. Mukesh Thakur, Principal of NMDC DAV Polytechnic College, highlighted the institution's commitment to promoting innovation through such events and workshops in various schools across the district.
The event was graced by several distinguished guests, including Geedam Block Education Officer Sheikh Rafiq, who served as the chief guest, and Cluster Principal Kailash Neelam, who attended as a special guest. Both guests honored the participants with certificates and mementos, recognizing their efforts and encouraging further innovation.
Lecturer Amujuri Biswanath from Aastha Vidya Mandir Jawanga emphasized the importance of the School Innovation Council (SIC), an initiative approved by the Ministry of Education, CBSE, and AICTE. This initiative aims to enhance the knowledge and skills of both students and teachers through innovative activities.
Raghavendra Dhar Diwan, President of the Institution of Innovation Council Cell, and Vice Principal Pankaj Sharma shared that NMDC DAV Polytechnic Dantewada is the only institution in the Bastar division to organize IIC programs, having achieved a star rating in the higher education category. The event was smoothly managed by jury members including K Pappa Rao, Head of the Electrical Department; Rubina Shaheen, Head of the Chemistry Department; and Rituraj Chandrakar, a lecturer in Mechanical Engineering.

COLLAGE ON VIEW
Fiber Reimagined II
at Gravers Lane Gallery in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA through 20 September 2024. This exhibition is an ongoing in-print, online and brick-and-mortar exhibition designed to showcase new and exciting works of art using innovative and alternative materials and processes. Conceived of and juried by Fiber Art Now‘s creative team, there are no geographic boundaries as artists are challenged to interpret what constitutes “Fiber Reimagined”. The staff at Fiber Art Now were the first round judges and chose the works accepted for the in-print and online showcase. Gravers Lane Gallery approached the selected works from the perspective of curating as a physical installation, which is a much different mindset, approaching the physicality, materiality and creative design. Greg Mort is an internationally recognized American contemporary artist whose unmistakably modern creations have the classic feel of the Dutch Masters juxtaposed with startlingly modern designs. His signature images combine his passions for art, science and nature.
Mort’s 2024 summer open studio titled BEYOND MY WINDOW is unique as he is sharing his lifelong fascination with illuminated multimedia 3D art creations. The primary focus of this limited collection of only twelve multimedia collage constructions is an original watercolor painting presented or “viewed” from the interior standpoint of a room via the perspective of a window.
Mort’s artwork is in many prominent collections including the Smithsonian, National Gallery of Art, Boston Museum of Science, Delaware Art Museum, Farnsworth Museum, Academy Art Museum, Portland Museum of Art, Brandywine River Museum and the Smithsonian National Air & Space Museum. His works have been selected for many public space venues. He has been honored to participate in the United States Department of State’s Art in Embassies program. Mort strongly believes in the ideals of cultural diplomacy and recently had paintings displayed at The White House as part of this program. Mort’s artwork has been exhibited in over one hundred museum and gallery shows around the world. Recent museum shows include “Lunar Attractions” at the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, MA and “Starry Skies of Art” at the Serlachius Museum in Mänttä, Finland and The American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore Maryland.

a commissioned NASA artist since 1983 and serves on the board of the Lowell Observatory. In 2010 his painting “ZERO-G Apples” was one of six paintings juried into “The First Art Show in Space” aboard the International Space Station. A skilled astro-photographer and telescope builder Mort is a sought-after speaker on the intersection of art and science.
Throughout his career Mort has recognized the power of imagery and used his art to share his passion of promoting environmental awareness. In 2007 he established The Art of Stewardship Project, his family foundation that supports and inspires ecological consciousness through the arts. The Art of Stewardship Project works with arts and educational organizations to build partnerships and collaborations reinforcing the artist’s role in preserving our fragile Earth. Leading
by example Mort is a Clinton Global Initiative Partner offering his artwork to support the goals of Circle of Blue the international educational organization focused on preserving the Earths fresh water.

Loud and Proud Logan celebrates LGBTQIA+ women in art show
New Post has been published on https://qnews.com.au/loud-proud-logan-celebrates-lgbtqia-women-in-art-show/
Loud and Proud Logan celebrates LGBTQIA+ women in art show
The upcoming Loud and Proud Logan is the south-east Queensland region’s first major Pride event and is hosting a special art exhibition to celebrate a group of ten LGBTQIA+ women.
Local arts collective Assorted Grains is organising the inaugural Loud and Proud Logan. The new event will take over the Kingston Butter Factory precinct with a vibrant, multi-arts celebration on Saturday, October 12, 2024.
As part of it, Assorted Grains is also presenting the LGBTQIA+ Women’s Visibility Project. The empowering exhibition celebrating ten LGBTQIA+ women will open on the day of the event.
Assorted Grains’ Ali Strachan is curating the exhibition, and said the project aims to celebrate the contributions and achievements of each of these women.
“Visibility matters because it allows audiences to see and hear from women like them, and to know they’re not alone,” Ali explained.
The artworks, accompanied by the subject’s personal story, will celebrate ten women who are lesbian, queer, bisexual or transgender, as well as First Nations sistagirls and those who identify as gender diverse and non-binary.
Two award-winning local creatives will make the portraits. Visual artist Stacey Bennett (see her work above) and Visual Poets Society photographer Jade Ferguson will create five artworks each.
Jade Ferguson said it’s important to her that the portraits showcase the rich diversity of the greater Logan community, in particular increasing the visibility of trans and non-binary women.
Nominate yourself for the art exhibition
Assorted Grains is inviting queer women from all backgrounds, cultures and abilities to nominate themselves for the exhibition.
Two trans women have signed on, with Gay Skate’s Storm Jury sitting for a portrait. Storm explains that as a trans woman, she embraces her experiences with pride and advocates for women’s rights.
“Being trans isn’t something that limits our identity,” she said.
Participant Amelia Illing is also trans, and says, “I want to show people what it means to be a trans woman, to remove the stigma and improve acceptance of diversity in Logan.”
At the festival, all of the participants are also invited to share their stories with the Just Gay Stuff Podcast with support from LGBTQIA+ counsellor, Jack McWilliams from Rainbow Affinity.
Free entry to Loud and Proud Logan
Until now, Logan was one of the last regions in south-east Queensland without a major Pride event.
On October 12, the inaugural Loud & Proud Logan event is offering Pridegoers drag shows, live music, art, films and more.
On the day, entry is free from 1pm as well as ticketed drag extravaganzas and ballroom cabaret shows from 6pm.
The award-winning drag lineup includes Logan’s own Lulu LeMans, Chocolate Boxx, Scarlett Fever (the trio below), as well as York Lit, Lord Sev and House of Alexander.

See the full lineup and book free tickets at the Logan Arts website.
