Sammy Knows AU prt 2

The debriefing left her tired and jerky. Ronnie had checked in, and Sammy didn't miss the way the older woman's eyes saddened at seeing her. She wasn't the only one who believed in having a backup, but having to use one meant things were far worse than they'd've liked.

To bad the older woman couldn't stay on long, her new assigned partner was coming and well, it wouldn't be the first time they lost a possible lead, but well either the new recruit would be a friendly face or could lead them to the web of collectors...

"I'm sorry" Brooklynn says quietly, eyes still glued to the screen. Sammy looks at her and wonders if the woman can see better out her peripherals with how often she uses that portion of sight.

Sammy raises a brow as she kicks off her boots. Her feet ache with sweet relief as they hit the cool wooden floor.

"Your neighbor"

Sammy sighs, "Carl"

She loved the man just as much as she hated him. It hurt surprisingly, or maybe not so much, she had know the man since she was born. He was always gruff and had a chip on his shoulder, but he was a neighbor that would help even if he was bellyaching' the entire time.

Sammy sighed again, eyes tearing up at the thought of the old bastard, he really was a pain in the ass but he was the one who'd help her father and teach her sisters how to shoot.

Despite his real hatred for the dinosaurs, he wouldn't hurt her or her kin. His death only makes the bittersweet taste in the back of her mouth grow sharper.

He was apart of their little group, had overheard one night and stayed to watch over her when her mind was essentially poked and prodded into the right configuration where she could help at a moments notice once the neural pathways were reactivated.

She wondered if that's what Carl was about to do before the weird raptor lady got to him first. Ronnie did say he tried to make contact with her...

Sammy clears her throat of the emotion, Carl would be another thing to clean up when they were done. She wonders how the news would spread through the town, with one neighbor dead on another's property, the one with the crazy dino loving woman who was one of the lost kids...oh, the gossip that will start. And fuck, if she lives she might actually hear from her family again if they find out what happened.

She sighs again and takes the offered coffee Brooklynn gives her, Sammy's honestly surprised her friend hasn't collapsed from an overdose of caffeine.

Her arm jerks with it's own mind and she hisses as knuckles split against the corner wall next to where she's sitting, the scalding coffee stinging just as much.

Brooklynn is up in a second, the one good hand helping to press with Sammy's other to keep the appendage from launching itself at something else.

When the tremors still, Sammy cleans the little ottoman as Brooklynn starts taking out the first aid.

They're quiet as Brooklynn works, the only occasional vocalizations being about what Brooklynn needs Sammy to do with her extra fingers.

Her friend pats her shoulder, "all better"

That pulls a sharp depressive laugh from Sammy. Both knew it was far from the truth but when you're as broken as them even breathing seems like a feat.

Sammy doesn't fight Brooklynn as the younger woman shadows her to the bed, it's small and will be cramped if Brooklynn ever decides to sleep, but it's home for now.

She groans as she falls on top of the covers, she'll shower later right now she just needs to rest.

"Anything else?" Brooklynn says, not unkindly but her nose back in a screen.

"A million dollars" Sammy hums past a painful clench of a calf muscle, thankfully it doesn't seem like another fit about to happen.

She hopes none of this will be permanent.

"Goodnight" Brooklynn says, her soft padding disappearing almost immediately.

Sammy stares at the ceiling and whispers to herself what she wishes to see again and tries not to think of the looks of horror she received at the last moments with the others.

Anyway since I haven't watched the entire show I'm gnna theorize real quick heheheh

SO. The dinosaurs are definitely being controlled by someone but who? I'd say kenji's dad but I'm not sure, I kinda forgot what happened to him 😭 he's still alive tho right? So I wouldn't put it off the table but it could also be Dr. Wu or whatever tf his name is I completely forgor abt him. Anyway to the stuff im actually interested in- BROOKLYN. SHES DEFINITELY ALIVE. RIGHT?? (Don't answer that) THERES NO WAY THEYD KILL OFF THE BEST CHARACTER RIGHT??? THERES NO WAY. PLUS THEY ALREADY RECASTED HER IN THE FLASHBACKS(btw I think the voice is pretty good! Idk if people have complained abt it yet but if they have... shut up??) SO WHY WOULD IT MATTER TO KEEP HER DEAD? THATS A WASTE OF MONEY PLUS. PLUUS. idk. I just kinda want her alive bro.... SURVIVE BROOKLYN. SURVIVE.

Okay based on the trailer I would like to make some headcanons :3

- what I noticed was that Darius' first instinct when he heard a noise outside; that his first instinct was to immediately zap it, no thought about what it could be, he just used that zappy thing with no hesitation, and was genuinely surprised to see Ben.

- and it wasn't Ben's first time catching the rod either, you could see he wasn't phased at all, he just said like calmly "Hey Darius :]" so I like to think that Ben knows that Darius is scared and traumatised from the island, and he expects Darius to lash out with the rod, which is why he reacted so quickly.

📌 - also that Darius has like 394777 things set up to make noise if anything passes, like to get warned beforehand, you can really tell he's genuinely paranoid

- I feel like Isla Nublar ruined dinosaurs for him, yes, he still loves them. But he wasn't as paranoid about them as he is in Chaos theory, he admired them in camp cretaceous but now it just feels like he's scared, scared of whatever dinosaur there is. Even if it's little.

- why is Ben so tall (i personally LOVE his design but they could give him a fringe or something he looks like a dad 😭)

- DARIUS' FRECKLES. NO EXPLANATION NEEDED.

- Someone is hunting them, the conclusion I came up with is Kenji's dad, he was so pissed off that he got defeated by 6 teenagers. A millionaire with mind controlled Dinos.

- In conclusion I'd genuinely like chaos theory to focus more on Darius' issues, which I feel like were never really brought up in JWCC. Like yeah they brought up Ben's "death" and his dad's death, but they didn't bring up Kash, how he was forced to hurt both his friends and the animals he loves(d), how he was the leader at the ages of 12-13 and how he would do anything to get the others off the island. Yes I have my hopes up for benrius, but I genuinely hope that Darius gets to open up about how he feels, during and after the island.

Brooklyn and Ben definitely convinced Yaz to start smoking with them. Brooklyn pulls Yaz aside and is like “Bro. I think you would benefit from a bit of weed”. and Yaz is mad sus. she couldn't smoke in hs bc of track and just never got into it. but Brooklyn has her hit a joint and Yaz is like “Wow… I love… not being anxious for like five seconds ….���

Not that I know of, but you have to realize that a lot of us didn't even know the campers' exact ages on Camp Cretaceous until Dreamworks made that promo post with their ages and heights out of the blue a couple years back LOL (and I'm also not entirely sure how accurate their heights were on that post)

During Chaos Theory Darius is 18, Brooklynn would've been 19, Ben and Sammy are 20, and Kenji and Yaz are 21.

Edit: I do think Scott once admitted he fudged the ages and the timeline just a bit though so it's all kind of just approximate. They are all over 18 in Chaos Theory though.

No bc I'm so mad rn I usually post my rants on ig stories but I need the tumblrites to tell me if I'm crazy or what. Jwcc/ct spoilers WHATEVER

First of all I want to preface this by saying that this is just my opinion on the matter, I'm not saying your headcanons are "wrong" or whatever tf, it's a kids cartoon where they unironically use terms like "fam". You can play with the characters however you'd like.

That being said, this is why TO ME it does not makes sense for Ben to be anything other than gay. Again, if you think he's bi or straight or anything else that's cool. I'm also leaning towards the opinion that he does actually have a girlfriend. I don't think the shows gonna pull a 180 on it because, realistically, 2 queer characters is already a lot for a DreamWorks kids show. As much as I'd like it not to be.

But, since the beginning, Ben has been very clearly coded as exclusively into men to me. Before finally going into it, I remind everyone on here that I'm a lesbian. I have felt an affinity with his character specifically for the experience of only liking the same gender. I might be totally projecting.

Ok, so.

1. The arc Ben goes through during the show is yes, one of self discovery, but also one of self acceptance. He changes a lot from the start of s1, but he also comes to terms with stuff himself or other people didn't like about him. He doesn't throw the dork pouch away or tells Kenji to keep it, the first thing he does when he takes it back from Kenji is put on hand sanitizer. He is covered in dirt, he's not afraid of filth anymore, but he still does that action because it's part of who he is as a person. He also becomes very unashamed at the things he does. He went from being embarrassed of his carob bars to eating grubs in front of people who he knows think it's gross. He knows himself as he is and he accepts it. To me (and to lots of other people) this works very well as a gay metaphor, and pairs up pretty nicely with the whole "jungle boy? Jungle MAN" arc being a trans metaphor. But how does this make Ben uniquely into men?

Well, it doesn't. But I think this next one does.

2. Enter Yasmina. She's pretty, she's smart, athletic, funny, all that good stuff. I'm not saying that means every wlm character should automatically be into her, but it certainly helps. Now forgive me if I don't remember specific episodes/seasons, but we all remember that episode where Ben convinces himself that Yaz is in love with him for some reason. When he "rejects" her, he says : "I'm just now starting to find myself". That's cool, cause I'm pretty sure Ben's " finding himself " personality wise was over and done a couple of seasons ago. To me, that is a really good hint at him dealing with his gayness.

3. He's also the first person Yasmina talks to about her feelings for Sammy. Now, in this particular context, the options for Yaz to talk to were Darius, Brooklynn, or Ben. It would initially seem to make more sense for her to confide in Brooklynn, since the two of them are far closer than her and Ben, and it also wouldn't be the first time she brings up Sammy as a romantic interest for Yaz (see: everyone tweaking abt that one line back in like s2). So why does Yasmina, a very private and reserved person, choose Ben to talk to about her same sex crush? She has probably gathered from the previous conversation that Ben relates to her struggle in a unique way in which Brooklynn just can't. Ben seems very receptive of what Yaz is saying ("feelings, am I right?") and it seems like he REALLY gets where she's coming from.

4. This is one I don't see talked about a lot, and maybe it's just cause I'm too out of the loop with the fandom, but I want to examine it as well. It's when Ben decides to not actually stay on the island. Everyone (except Sammy) already knew he wasn't going to stay in the end, but still didn't force him out. I think this is especially clear in a line Darius says when they reunite on the boat that goes something like "you needed to figure it out on your own" *smile hand on shoulder combo*. No explanation needed I think

Okay but like, I know Bumpy is technically Ben's, but we get to see Sammy and Bumpy interact and like 1) I want to see more of the camp fam have their own little Bumpy arcs, but also 2) I want to see a scene where Ben asks Bumpy to do one thing and Sammy asking to do the other and like...I don't know what I want more Bumpy not knowing who to chose or Bumpy actually and almost immediately following Sammy's commands.

Like Sammy's big critter bonding skills but also the heartbreak of Ben feeling the distance from his time away from Bumpy. Would also be interesting to see Ben and Sammy have tension like at the Dino King place.

Some of my chaos theory/benrius headcanons ^_^

– Ben can play the guitar like REALLY well, electric and bass. Mostly playing some of his favourite songs (Ben has dad music taste, convince me otherwise. I bet £20 he has the Beatles, David Bowie, Queen, Foo fighters etc on his playlist.)

– Darius goes fishing once in a while, and can name out some species of fish. Some. Other times he'll just go; “okay, that one's blue.. and that one is blueish-green..” so whenever someone asks about a certain type of fish he goes; “Yes! That's the blue guy!” In a confident tone.

– due to Darius isolating himself, Ben visits frequently, bringing him food and constant gifts (flowers, chocolate etc)

– Darius just getting his driver's licence. Whilst Ben has been driving for years. And Ben constantly makes fun of him for being a “rookie” at driving, in a good way though.

– Darius got Ben that T-rex smeller that Ben has on his rear view mirror.

– Ben has road rage. He hates slow drivers, and he gets mad when he can't parallel park properly. Constantly screaming when something bad happens on the road. He hates traffic too.

– Ben Definitely goes to the gym!! Darius sometimes joins him, but Ben goes on a routine. Big Ben indeed.

– Darius tries his best not to swear, like at all. but sometimes it slips out when he stubs his toe or drops something, he'll let out a loud “FUCK!”. Ben on the other hand has absolutely no issues swearing (especially when it comes to driving.)

– Ben still has that headband from Nublar – he sometimes wears it out, and the same with the fanny pack.

– Uncharacteristic of Darius, but he has tried alcohol at least once 😭

– Ben being one of the shortest during Nublar – to being one of the tallest. And be brags about it constantly.

– Darius not keeping in contact with the rest of campfam due to isolation, so the group goes to him instead, keeping him company and comfort and even staying over sometimes, Brooklynn is the one who stays over the most. (They are the duo ever convince me differently)

weirdly enough my favorite thing about jwcc/jwct is kenji becoming a bowman. which is stupid considering the fact the show barely even mentions it. PLEWSEEEEEEE i need some fics focused on kenji's journey as an adopted son at LEAST 😭😭😭😭
