Sammy Knows AU prt 2

The debriefing left her tired and jerky. Ronnie had checked in, and Sammy didn't miss the way the older woman's eyes saddened at seeing her. She wasn't the only one who believed in having a backup, but having to use one meant things were far worse than they'd've liked.

To bad the older woman couldn't stay on long, her new assigned partner was coming and well, it wouldn't be the first time they lost a possible lead, but well either the new recruit would be a friendly face or could lead them to the web of collectors...

"I'm sorry" Brooklynn says quietly, eyes still glued to the screen. Sammy looks at her and wonders if the woman can see better out her peripherals with how often she uses that portion of sight.

Sammy raises a brow as she kicks off her boots. Her feet ache with sweet relief as they hit the cool wooden floor.

"Your neighbor"

Sammy sighs, "Carl"

She loved the man just as much as she hated him. It hurt surprisingly, or maybe not so much, she had know the man since she was born. He was always gruff and had a chip on his shoulder, but he was a neighbor that would help even if he was bellyaching' the entire time.

Sammy sighed again, eyes tearing up at the thought of the old bastard, he really was a pain in the ass but he was the one who'd help her father and teach her sisters how to shoot.

Despite his real hatred for the dinosaurs, he wouldn't hurt her or her kin. His death only makes the bittersweet taste in the back of her mouth grow sharper.

He was apart of their little group, had overheard one night and stayed to watch over her when her mind was essentially poked and prodded into the right configuration where she could help at a moments notice once the neural pathways were reactivated.

She wondered if that's what Carl was about to do before the weird raptor lady got to him first. Ronnie did say he tried to make contact with her...

Sammy clears her throat of the emotion, Carl would be another thing to clean up when they were done. She wonders how the news would spread through the town, with one neighbor dead on another's property, the one with the crazy dino loving woman who was one of the lost kids...oh, the gossip that will start. And fuck, if she lives she might actually hear from her family again if they find out what happened.

She sighs again and takes the offered coffee Brooklynn gives her, Sammy's honestly surprised her friend hasn't collapsed from an overdose of caffeine.

Her arm jerks with it's own mind and she hisses as knuckles split against the corner wall next to where she's sitting, the scalding coffee stinging just as much.

Brooklynn is up in a second, the one good hand helping to press with Sammy's other to keep the appendage from launching itself at something else.

When the tremors still, Sammy cleans the little ottoman as Brooklynn starts taking out the first aid.

They're quiet as Brooklynn works, the only occasional vocalizations being about what Brooklynn needs Sammy to do with her extra fingers.

Her friend pats her shoulder, "all better"

That pulls a sharp depressive laugh from Sammy. Both knew it was far from the truth but when you're as broken as them even breathing seems like a feat.

Sammy doesn't fight Brooklynn as the younger woman shadows her to the bed, it's small and will be cramped if Brooklynn ever decides to sleep, but it's home for now.

She groans as she falls on top of the covers, she'll shower later right now she just needs to rest.

"Anything else?" Brooklynn says, not unkindly but her nose back in a screen.

"A million dollars" Sammy hums past a painful clench of a calf muscle, thankfully it doesn't seem like another fit about to happen.

She hopes none of this will be permanent.

"Goodnight" Brooklynn says, her soft padding disappearing almost immediately.

Sammy stares at the ceiling and whispers to herself what she wishes to see again and tries not to think of the looks of horror she received at the last moments with the others.

So I wouldn't put it off the table but it could also be Dr. Wu or whatever tf his name is I completely forgor abt him. Anyway to the stuff im actually interested in- BROOKLYN. SHES DEFINITELY ALIVE. Age order of the Nublar Six

Okay. So like, I know people have their headcanons and shit, but I want to know if there is any ACTUAL confirmed age order besides what we already know. Like, I know Darius is the youngest, followed by Brooklynn, then Ben & Sammy, and finally Yaz & Kenji. But I scoured the interwebs and I couldn’t find anything confirming who was the oldest. I’ve seen some people say Yaz, some people say Kenji. Is there a definite answer or are we going based on headcanon?

If that’s the case, lemme cook here. This is all based on my own observations with my own headcanons sprinkled in. Feel free to disagree or call me out if canon contradicts anything.

Yaz: Oldest.

Born April 13, 2000.

10th grade/Sophomore in high school.

She drives the van in S1, indicating that she also has her learner's permit. Unlike Kenji, she seems to have a better grasp on driving, which means she's likely been doing it longer.

I headcanon that Yaz is from Seattle, Washington. The legal age to get a learner's permit in Washington is 15, which checks out.

She's always felt like the oldest to me, just based on how she acts. Obviously her maturity doesn't directly correlate with her age, but I think there is usually some overlap with that.

Kenji: Second oldest.

Born October 19th, 2000.

10th grade/Sophomore in high school. He is technically supposed to be a freshman due to cut-off dates, but his dad paid to have him move up a grade to be around people who would “be a better influence” on him.

He mentions that his dad locked the penthouse because he failed algebra, which is typically a course taken in freshman year, and Kenji doesn’t seem like the type of guy to take advanced classes.

I headcanon that Kenji is from Miami, Florida (based purely on the fact that my beta-reader said "he looks like a creature from Miami"). The legal age to get a learner's permit in Miami is 15.

Kenji has his learner's permit, but isn't comfortable behind the wheel, indicating that he hasn't been driving for very long.

(he kind of acts like a freshman. no shade but some of y'all are annoying as fuck. love kenji tho <3)

Sammy: Upper middle.

Born March 29, 2001.

9th grade/Freshman in high school.

She gives big sister vibes, so I feel like she would be next up.

Ben: Lower middle.

Born August 26, 2001.

9th grade/Freshman in high school.

He would be one of the youngest in his grade due to cutoff dates.

It just feels right to me.

Brooklynn: Second Youngest.

Born May 17, 2002.

8th grade.

She is taught by 100% online tudors so it’s hard to determine where she falls on the education scale, but I would assume she learns at an accelerated rate.

Darius: Youngest.

Born January 4th, 2003.

8th grade.

I think he turned 13 pretty early on.

He’s one year ahead in school, so although he SHOULD be in 7th grade, he’s actually in 8th grade. This could have happened for numerous reasons, but I'm just gonna say he was smart and skipped a grade because the school recommended it.

Obviously, a lot of this is just shit I made up, so feel free to disagree. Or, if you like any of these headcanons and want to use them in your own work, go right ahead! No need to credit me. This is how I’m gonna do it in my fic lol. But I’d love to hear other people’s opinions/analyses!

Okay based on the trailer I would like to make some headcanons :3

- what I noticed was that Darius' first instinct when he heard a noise outside; that his first instinct was to immediately zap it, no thought about what it could be, he just used that zappy thing with no hesitation, and was genuinely surprised to see Ben.

- and it wasn't Ben's first time catching the rod either, you could see he wasn't phased at all, he just said like calmly "Hey Darius :]" so I like to think that Ben knows that Darius is scared and traumatised from the island, and he expects Darius to lash out with the rod, which is why he reacted so quickly.

📌 - also that Darius has like 394777 things set up to make noise if anything passes, like to get warned beforehand, you can really tell he's genuinely paranoid

- I feel like Isla Nublar ruined dinosaurs for him, yes, he still loves them. But he wasn't as paranoid about them as he is in Chaos theory, he admired them in camp cretaceous but now it just feels like he's scared, scared of whatever dinosaur there is. Even if it's little.

- why is Ben so tall (i personally LOVE his design but they could give him a fringe or something he looks like a dad 😭)

- DARIUS' FRECKLES. NO EXPLANATION NEEDED.

- Someone is hunting them, the conclusion I came up with is Kenji's dad, he was so pissed off that he got defeated by 6 teenagers. A millionaire with mind controlled Dinos.

- In conclusion I'd genuinely like chaos theory to focus more on Darius' issues, which I feel like were never really brought up in JWCC. Like yeah they brought up Ben's "death" and his dad's death, but they didn't bring up Kash, how he was forced to hurt both his friends and the animals he loves(d), how he was the leader at the ages of 12-13 and how he would do anything to get the others off the island. Yes I have my hopes up for benrius, but I genuinely hope that Darius gets to open up about how he feels, during and after the island.

Dinostar dating headcanons

Brooklynn lives on his lap. She sits on his lap every chance she gets and he doesn’t bother to tell her to get up when he needs to stand because he likes being close to her.

Since the loss of her hand, Darius links his arm to hers when he’s walking by her side instead of holding hands.

They’re love language has always been acts of service and words of affirmation but since they started dating they start becoming more physical to show their love, cheek kisses, hugs, one or the other just placing a hand on a leg because they can type of thing.

Double dates with Yasammy! + turns into an giant ester stone fan club where Darius just listens to the girls talk and watches Brooklynn smile.

Brooklynn could listen to Darius info dump about dinosaurs 24/7 but after six years of friendship she knows most of the facts already and ends up hearing things over and over again so sometimes she finishes his sentence just because it makes him blush.

They comfort each other after nightmares with cookies and cuddles.

Kenji gently warned Brooklynn to not break his brothers heart when Darius and her got together

Whenever they play board games they always strategize to win and it annoys the rest of the camp fam so sometimes the entire group refuses to pair Darius and Brooklynn together when playing.

Neither of them can cook and have given up on trying to.

Darius still has nightmares about that night he was supposed to meet Brooklynn and sometimes she has to assure him that she’s right there when he wakes up.

Brooklynn steals his hoodies and sometimes instead of returning them, she buys him another but every new one is yellow because it suits him well.

Darius in return buys her novelty T shirts to wear because he knows what media she’s into.

Brooklyn and Ben definitely convinced Yaz to start smoking with them. Brooklyn pulls Yaz aside and is like “Bro. I think you would benefit from a bit of weed”. and Yaz is mad sus. she couldn't smoke in hs bc of track and just never got into it. but Brooklyn has her hit a joint and Yaz is like “Wow… I love… not being anxious for like five seconds ….”

Okay but like, I know Bumpy is technically Ben's, but we get to see Sammy and Bumpy interact and like 1) I want to see more of the camp fam have their own little Bumpy arcs, but also 2) I want to see a scene where Ben asks Bumpy to do one thing and Sammy asking to do the other and like...I don't know what I want more Bumpy not knowing who to chose or Bumpy actually and almost immediately following Sammy's commands.

Like Sammy's big critter bonding skills but also the heartbreak of Ben feeling the distance from his time away from Bumpy. Would also be interesting to see Ben and Sammy have tension like at the Dino King place.

Not that I know of, but you have to realize that a lot of us didn't even know the campers' exact ages on Camp Cretaceous until Dreamworks made that promo post with their ages and heights out of the blue a couple years back LOL (and I'm also not entirely sure how accurate their heights were on that post)

During Chaos Theory Darius is 18, Brooklynn would've been 19, Ben and Sammy are 20, and Kenji and Yaz are 21.

Edit: I do think Scott once admitted he fudged the ages and the timeline just a bit though so it's all kind of just approximate. They are all over 18 in Chaos Theory though.

No bc I'm so mad rn I usually post my rants on ig stories but I need the tumblrites to tell me if I'm crazy or what. Jwcc/ct spoilers WHATEVER

First of all I want to preface this by saying that this is just my opinion on the matter, I'm not saying your headcanons are "wrong" or whatever tf, it's a kids cartoon where they unironically use terms like "fam". You can play with the characters however you'd like.

That being said, this is why TO ME it does not makes sense for Ben to be anything other than gay. Again, if you think he's bi or straight or anything else that's cool. I'm also leaning towards the opinion that he does actually have a girlfriend. I don't think the shows gonna pull a 180 on it because, realistically, 2 queer characters is already a lot for a DreamWorks kids show. As much as I'd like it not to be.

But, since the beginning, Ben has been very clearly coded as exclusively into men to me. Before finally going into it, I remind everyone on here that I'm a lesbian. I have felt an affinity with his character specifically for the experience of only liking the same gender. I might be totally projecting.

Ok, so.

1. The arc Ben goes through during the show is yes, one of self discovery, but also one of self acceptance. He changes a lot from the start of s1, but he also comes to terms with stuff himself or other people didn't like about him. He doesn't throw the dork pouch away or tells Kenji to keep it, the first thing he does when he takes it back from Kenji is put on hand sanitizer. He is covered in dirt, he's not afraid of filth anymore, but he still does that action because it's part of who he is as a person. He also becomes very unashamed at the things he does. He went from being embarrassed of his carob bars to eating grubs in front of people who he knows think it's gross. He knows himself as he is and he accepts it. To me (and to lots of other people) this works very well as a gay metaphor, and pairs up pretty nicely with the whole "jungle boy? Jungle MAN" arc being a trans metaphor. But how does this make Ben uniquely into men?

Well, it doesn't. But I think this next one does.

2. Enter Yasmina. She's pretty, she's smart, athletic, funny, all that good stuff. I'm not saying that means every wlm character should automatically be into her, but it certainly helps. Now forgive me if I don't remember specific episodes/seasons, but we all remember that episode where Ben convinces himself that Yaz is in love with him for some reason. When he "rejects" her, he says : "I'm just now starting to find myself". That's cool, cause I'm pretty sure Ben's " finding himself " personality wise was over and done a couple of seasons ago. To me, that is a really good hint at him dealing with his gayness.

3. He's also the first person Yasmina talks to about her feelings for Sammy. Now, in this particular context, the options for Yaz to talk to were Darius, Brooklynn, or Ben. It would initially seem to make more sense for her to confide in Brooklynn, since the two of them are far closer than her and Ben, and it also wouldn't be the first time she brings up Sammy as a romantic interest for Yaz (see: everyone tweaking abt that one line back in like s2). So why does Yasmina, a very private and reserved person, choose Ben to talk to about her same sex crush? She has probably gathered from the previous conversation that Ben relates to her struggle in a unique way in which Brooklynn just can't. Ben seems very receptive of what Yaz is saying ("feelings, am I right?") and it seems like he REALLY gets where she's coming from.

4. This is one I don't see talked about a lot, and maybe it's just cause I'm too out of the loop with the fandom, but I want to examine it as well. It's when Ben decides to not actually stay on the island. Everyone (except Sammy) already knew he wasn't going to stay in the end, but still didn't force him out. I think this is especially clear in a line Darius says when they reunite on the boat that goes something like "you needed to figure it out on your own" *smile hand on shoulder combo*. No explanation needed I think

Kenji Kon Headcanons pt.1 (been gatekeeping them)

When he was younger his Dad had very low standards of him, and believed he was incompetent and couldn't do anything. And out of spite Kenji would be as incompetent as possible and be lazy all the time and at a point he just kinda started being "lazy".

Every time he tried to be useful. Like making dinner or cleaning around the house. He ended up messing up, and then he'd burst into tears because it hurts worse when he was 'incompetent' on accident then on purpose. And his dad would just be like "oh Kenji, I wasn't expecting much from you anyways. The maids can do it." In his manipulative soft spoken voice.

Kenji is actually really good at cooking guys. He just never does it. But he would usually hang with the maids and cleaners and cooks who actually gave a damn about him unlike some people. And he gained skills from them. He's just too scared to ever apply them.

He has the worst self confidence, but he acts confident in everything that he does anyways.

The kool aid man is on his "hear me out cake" and "smash cake" for some odd reason. And he is PROUD OF THAT.

He has ADHD actually. But he doesn't know it until his adult years, and it explains so much about him.

He actually really loves reading comics and novels and stuff. And has at some point written fanfiction about *that one detective show* which is also a book because I say so.

Cries watching Bluey. He's favourite characters are Mackenzie and Bandit Heeler (cause he's a good dad).

Cries anytime he sees a healthy dad and child relationship in anything. Bro cried watching finding Nemo for goodness sake.

Percy Jackson's Apollo was his bisexual awakening. Mainly Lester from ToA, and he despised ZEUS mainly because of how shit of a father he is to Apollo. And it made him realise that huh, maybe his father was not a good father. (Let's pretend the timeline for Toa matches with the timeline of his teenage years😭)

Okay technically since ToA wasn't there for him as a teen. Let's just say that Apollo from greek mythology in general was his ACTUAL gay awakening. He knew he was bisexual in his teen years!! Just isn't that verbal about it tho. It happened when he was like 14 and had already read PJO and discovered Apollo fanart. And got real into greek mythology. Fricking bi panicked when he discovered feminine Apollo art and GOSHHHHH!!

He wears a buncha bracelets on his right hand. Half of them are the friendship bracelets the camp fan made eachother, and the others are ones he finds cute. And he has exchanged one with Brooklynn. He also has a black leather bracelet with three beads of the bisexual flag.

Wanted to do ballet when he was younger, but his dad stopped him. Telling him that it would ruin the Kon reputation and he was like eight. So, he cried because of that.
