Liquid metals shake up century-old chemical engineering processes
Liquid metals could be the long-awaited solution to "greening" the chemical industry, according to researchers who tested a new technique they hope can replace energy-intensive chemical engineering processes harking back to the early 20th century. Chemical production accounts for approximately 10–15% of total greenhouse gas emissions. More than 10% of world's total energy is also used in chemical factories. Findings published in Nature Nanotechnology offer a much-needed innovation that moves away from old, energy-intensive catalysts made from solid materials. The research is led by Professor Kourosh Kalantar-Zadeh, Head of the University of Sydney's School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, and Dr. Junma Tang, who works jointly at the University of Sydney and UNSW.

ETTIN a mythic giant of Germanic and old English lore, but the specificity of it having two heads would seem to point to it being a D&D reference.
BAMULVRIS appears to be gibberish but I'm compelled by the way both WA2 and WA3 retained being a two colored two-headed creature with an affinity for both fire and ice. The Japanese reads, ba-mu-ru-bu-ri-su[バムルブリス].
NIDHOGG is the Norse dragon that gnaws on the roots of the Yggdrasil. It's referenced in WA3 pretty directly. Although there's really no association with two-headedness in lore, at least to the best of my knowledge.
GORG is, i think, a reference to the 1984 giant robot anime, GIANT GORG. Otherwise is seems like a fairly popular generic fantasy brute name, but not one attributable to any particularly relevant characters or properties. Oh wait no, I got it! It's another cryptid from that one funky Japanese cryptid hunter show from the 80s that WA got APEMAN JUNMA and VARGON from. It once featured a giant two headed snake called GORG.

This is Basque band emerged in 1980 and they are the most influential band in the scene of Spanish punk. The band was made by three boys in their 20's, Pako Galán (also known as Pako Eskorbuto), Jesús María Exposito (Iosu) and Junama Suarez, unfortunately Jesús and Juanma died in the 1992 because their drug addiction: Iosu died of AIDS that got because his heroin addiction and Junma died because the mix between drugs and heart disease.

Political opinions: They called them selves anti-everything (Anti-todo) so basically they are anti-police, anti-government (anarchism), anti-religion...
Polemics: They were arrested because of a song that compared tax authorities and ETA (A terrorist group).

OKAY!!! Exo Fanmeet recap!!!
SO: first of all, it took for fucking ever to get my ticket since i could only pick them up in person which means i missed the merch sale ㅠㅅㅠ but its not so bad since i can buy later online. now ik for next time to get there 3 or more hours early to really make sure i have time for everything
the actual event was really great!! the guys opened with Hear Me Out which was fun to listen to. Minseok's new hair is so pretty and he was super fucking handsome. the cheers for Baek and Kyungsoo and Junma were nuts, everyone went crazy for them (including the ahjumma i was sitting next to), sadly Jongdae got less cheers but he had a good bit and i screamed as loud as i could obvi. the setlist was kinda ass tbh bc it was the same songs they always do and like SURE theyre fun and all but i want to hear other things!!! i will say tho that i liked the Don't Go performance bc Min was doing his solo dance to it while they were singing and i love that performance so much.
they played some games and were absolutely ass at it except Junmyeon and his jump rope skills with the accupuncture slippers on. Exo turned into golfers yet none of them could putt, its so funny. everyone was so cute tho!! they had fun and it was so nice to watch
the best part was the "Title Killing Voice" corner where they did basically all the titles (except Mama my beloved) they skipped from Killing Voice or the parts that people wanted to see like Kyungsoo's LMR high note. that was the best part and believe me when i say i SCREAMED for Obsession. also for this corner they were wearing panda costumes and it was so adorable. they all made jokes about being related to Fu Bao but also Min was like "I'm Xiu Bao" like babe no youre Baozi!!
anyway then they did outfit change again and had a ment where Myeon pointed out that Kai and Sehun were there and when i tell you i nearly died,,,, also i cried to Universe. they ended with XOXO and Just as Usual (?) for the encore stage which annoyed me a little bc i thought they were going to do Heaven which is one of my favorite songs but its fine. Junmyeon said when Sekai are back, we're getting a new album and a world tour so maybe theyll come to the city i live in now

Liquid metals could be the long-awaited solution to “greening” the chemical industry, according to researchers who tested a new technique they hope can replace energy-intensive chemical engineering processes harking back to the early 20th century.

Chemical production accounts for approximately 10-15 percent of total greenhouse gas emissions. More than 10 percent of the world’s total energy is also used in chemical factories.
Findings published in Nature Nanotechnology today offer a much-needed innovation that moves away from old, energy-intensive catalysts made from solid materials. The research is led by Professor Kourosh Kalantar-Zadeh, Head of the University of Sydney’s School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, and Dr Junma Tang, who works jointly at the University of Sydney and UNSW.
A catalyst is a substance that makes chemical reactions occur faster and more easily without participating in the reaction. Solid catalysts, typically solid metals or solid compounds of metals, are commonly used in the chemical industry to make plastics, fertilisers, fuels and feedstock.
However, chemical production using solid processes is energy intensive, requiring temperatures of up to a thousand degrees centigrade.
The new process instead uses liquid metals, in this case dissolving tin and nickel which gives them unique mobility, enabling them to migrate to the surface of liquid metals and react with input molecules such as canola oil. This results in the rotation, fragmentation, and reassembly of canola oil molecules into smaller organic chains, including propylene, a high-energy fuel crucial for many industries.
“Our method offers an unparalleled possibility to the chemical industry for reducing energy consumption and greening chemical reactions,” said Professor Kalantar-Zadeh.
“It’s expected that the chemical sector will account for more than 20 percent of emissions by 2050,” said Professor Kalantar-Zadeh. “But chemical manufacturing is much less visible than other sectors – a paradigm shift is vital.”
How the process works
Atoms in liquid metals are more randomly arranged and have greater freedom of movement than solids. This allows them to easily come into contact with, and participate in, chemical reactions. “Theoretically, they can catalyse chemicals at much lower temperatures – meaning they require far less energy,” Professor Kalantar-Zadeh said.
In their research, the authors dissolved high melting point nickel and tin in a gallium based liquid metal with a melting point of only 30 degrees centigrade.
“By dissolving nickel in liquid gallium, we gained access to liquid nickel at very low temperatures – acting as a ‘super’ catalyst. In comparison solid nickel’s melting point is 1455 degrees centigrade. The same effect, to a lesser degree, is also experienced for tin metal in liquid gallium,” Dr Tang said.
The metals were dispersed in liquid metal solvents at the atomic level. “So we have access to single atom catalysts. Single atom is the highest surface area accessibility for catalysis which offer a remarkable advantage to the chemical industry,” said Dr Arifur Rahim, senior author and DECRA Fellow at the School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering.
The researchers said their formula could also be used for other chemical reactions by mixing metals using the low temperature processes.
“It requires such low temperature to catalyse that we could even theoretically do it in the kitchen with the gas cooktop – but don’t try that at home,” Dr Tang said.

another loose tangent... Vorpal Ape is an enemy early in WA5, and although it and Gorilla Baron aren't directly related to any other monsters I'm throwing them in here with the broader ape family, just because.
N.U.E. No idea why this is specifically an acronym, but it's a reference to the Nue, a Japanese folk monster most commonly depicted as a creature with the head of a monkey, body of a dog, legs of a tiger, and a snake for a tail. In WA1 it's clearly the root model of the family, but WA2 is a lot more mandrill-like and lacks any of the Nue's chimeric features.
HUMBABA I've mentioned in the boss tournament, but it first appears in WA1 in the forests of the overworld misromanized as FUNBABA. As mentioned during the boss tournament, it's a monster taken from Mesopotamian mythos and the story of Gilgamesh where it was a guardian of the cedar wood forests.
BOSTBABOON is a strange one off enemy contained to WA1. It's another localization fumble; the name should be BOOSTBABOON. But that's not exactly a more sensible name either. A "Boosted Baboon"? Boosted what? Strength? Intelligence? Just everything in general? Oddly none of these baboon monsters made it into the Alter Code F remake directly, but it's possible that this one got reworked into...
...ROCK BABOON in WA3 and Alter Code F, which might seem equally vague as a name at first glance. But in fact it's an old D&D monster that, rather sensibly, no one cares to remember or has ever really used because, like... you have a whole fantasy world to play with why as a GM would you be throwing only slightly more intelligent baboons at your adventurers???
back to WA2 for a sec, VIRSAGO is a misromanization of VASSAGO, another demon of Ars Goetia origin as well as the Liber Officiorum Spirituum and subsequently Pseudomonarchia Daemonum. Oddly it's actually closely associated with the demon AGARES, which was a boss in the original WA. Making him a simian is a weird choice but he seems to stick for a few games before being phased out.
Oddly, DRILL MANDRILL seems to make the most sense as the core of the WA3 model that sticks around for the rest of the franchise, even though it only appears in one game? It is the only enemy in the family to actually account for the drill arms, although the Drill is also the name of another monkey that's a relative of the Mandrill. Also retroactively confusing that the WA2 models definitely look like Mandrills specifically, given the face markings, yet neither of those really drew attention to it?
Then we have APEMAN JUNMA and APEMAN VARGON who also got a mention during the boss tournament. They're both taken from a weird Japanese hoax cryptid hunter show from the 1980s. There's official romanization that shows JUNMA should actually be JUMA, but I couldn't find any addition material on VARGON.
Then finally we get to GORILLA BARON and VORPAL APE, who, as I mentioned, aren't really directly related to this long linage of monkey/ape enemies, but feel like appropriate honorary members. The BARON seems kind of straight forward as just a ruler of Gorillas with his little cape, but I have no idea what's up with VORPAL APE. "Vorpal" is a made up word from Lewis Carroll's Jabberwocky poem as a descriptor of the "Vorpal sword"/"vorpal blade." I have no idea how that applies to an ape...
