something I’ve been thinking abt is how many people think Makoto is immune to despair. I don’t think he is. I think becoming the ultimate Hope was BECAUSE he felt despair. He wouldn’t have fully reached that point without Junko. Makoto becoming such a beacon was his last attempt to avoid completely falling and it wasn’t because he didn’t feel despair, it was because he was too damn stubborn to allow everything to go to waste and he refused to sacrifice his beliefs for someone else’s. His inner monologue tells me he DID experience the same new low the other suvivors did in the final trial, but at the point where he had the choice to give up and die, he looked at the others and he looked at Junko and he couldn’t allow it to happen, not out of self preservation, but because the idea that Junko would have control over their lives made him FURIOUS. and that utter refusal to die kicked in, wether luck or otherwise, and he made the concious effort for one last push while something in him was breaking. He had to be broken in order for the Ultimate Hope to come through so aggressively, bc it could only exist in the face of the Ultimate Despair. He snapped the same way she did, but in the other direction. In what could have been his final moments he chose to embody everything Junko wasn’t, and every single optimistic and luck fueled ideal in him suddenly charged forward and pushed him. It was a combination of the final straw and a choice. Makoto isn’t immune to feeling despair, he’s just too stubborn to fall into it of his own volition. I think that’s why I like that scene in DR3 so much. People were SO SHOCKED Makoto actually fell for the tape, that he actually became despair for a moment. I saw people getting mad or disappointed, saying it was pathetic and Makoto seemed to fall from some sort of pedestal for them. Honestly part of me wonders if that sort of mentality, which clearly people had in universe, affected Makoto a bit. Like he started to see himself as less of a person, subconsciously. Prompting him to take more risks, less self preservation, act way more bold. It seems he has to be reminded a lot not to put himself in danger by his friends, to not do something too reckless. All over the place I would see in regards to that scene either this frivolous ‘oh this was just angst drama with no meaning behind it’ or ‘he can do better than that. he’s so weak’ or ‘come on, there’s no way he’d fall into despair, he’s the Ultimate Hope!’ This kind of mentality, which was kind of ironic considering Ryota was there the entire time saying the same thing and treating Makoto the same way. Like Makoto was superhuman. Like Makoto didn’t feel despair the same way ‘normal people’ did. In a way that was also how Munakata saw Makoto. Makoto stopped being a PERSON to the world when he became Ultimate Hope, he became a concept, a belief system, much the same way Junko ascended beyond herself. But the difference is that treating Makoto that way is the opposite of the reason Makoto became such a representative for hope. He wasn’t doing something no one else could. He was doing something everyone had the chance to, he just… was a little more optimistic, a little more stubborn, a little more ‘gung-ho’ about things. He just took the lead where no one else did, where no one else knew they even COULD in the face of Junko’s unstoppable force. She had overcome the biggest threats and obstacles in the world, what could one person do? And the answer Makoto found was, anything. Everything. It doesn’t all rest on Makoto, he’s just the one that was inspired to try to do what seemed like the impossible. But as evidenced by the change in his friends after that trial, it’s clearly not something only Makoto is capable of. The others pulled out of despair thanks to Makoto, but it was their choice to do so.
“But… this world is so huge, and we’re so small. What can we do…? No, we can probably do anything. Yeah! We can do anything!”
#makoto naegi#Danganronpa character analysis#Danganronpa#danganronpa thh#danganronpa future arc#I fucking love Makoto Naegi man.#I think there’s a fine line of nuance to Makoto that’s easy to miss bc he doesn’t really make it known#he’s not a pushover and he’s not overpowered. he’s a people pleaser but he will say what needs to be said#he’s an immovable object and the exact opposite of Junko but he’s also just a normal guy who’s optimistic and (un)lucky#he isn’t invincible but he has immense power to his words the same way Junko did#if anything his superpower is being kind above all else. he’s compassionate to some of the worst people in the world.#he was even conpassionatr to an extent to Junko. he didnt want her to kill herself despite everything she’s done#and he still acknowledges that for years she was a classmate and friend.#I do think the more he learned abt what she did the more he’s come to actually hate her though#post the first game he always refers to her without a suffix to her name which is one of the most subtle rude things you can do#it means you have zero respect for the person you’re referring to#and he speaks about her with some venom he doesn’t use for anyone else in the future arc#he’s not incapable of feeling negative emotions#I really liked the future arc scene bc it showed that Makoto DID experience enough despair to have overcome him if he didn’t refuse#and that it still affects him deeply. people treat him like he’s either this perfect ideal Chad or this baby chick who’s so delicate#and no one really focuses on how makoto shoulders so much and yet is still vulnerable.#honestly that guy was DUE for a mental breakdown even without the tape. it would have happened eventually#I actually wrote one based on him finally hitting a breaking point after giving so much of himself away and keeping nothing for himself#that his issues that he shoves down constantly finally can’t be held down anymore. Hajime helps him bc he knows how that feels#it was a LONG time ago that I wrote that but honestly if I can remember where i was going w it I might finish it#it was initially an rp but I could make it a fic#anyway. the point is Makoto is SO much more complex than people give him credit for#the most fundamental thing about him is that he’s normal and that’s ok! that’s what helps him rise!

i think that someone should make an multiverse where non-utmv characters invade the multiverse and it's completely error's fault. why? because of this
(offical CQ) anyways i think that if an error virus was real this is how. i think that the error virus invading the utmv would be really cool and this would be a prime PRIME opportunity for someone to make the best fandom collaboration of all time. error could just be going around multiverses and dragging them into the antivoid. or a bunch of people could fall into the antivoid for no reason at all. antivoid backrooms
#error sans#utmv#undertale#undertale multiverse#undertale au#sans au#sans#utmv au#no because what if you had fucking errorfied steve from Minecraft#errorfied junko from danganronpa#sansmaeda could be real but only with an errorfied nagito#errorfied fucking IDK roblox characters#hell it could even be errorfied YOU since we're a seperate multiverse too#i just really wanna see the utmv's reactions when they realize that all these random error people are popping up#and they are DEFINITELY NOT sans variants (or other undertale varients. or any undertale related varient)#error!madoka is real and she will frighten you#error!terry from bistro huddy could happen guys. you never know

thh’s chapter one is still so funny to me because like. it does kind of make sense as to why sayaka chose leon of all people. she’s very good at reading people and it’s not hard to see that leon will instantly drop anything for a pretty girl, plus his wish to become a musician was something she could easily use as an excuse to talk to him. and it’s not as if sayaka is completely unathletic as an idol, but also. he’s the ultimate baseball star. he doesn’t even practice and he’s naturally strong and fast enough to have gained an ultimate title. her plan was to ambush him sure but HOW did she ever see that as a fight she could win even assuming he was caught off-guard
#icarus speaks#watching therm’s second vod rn#like i know sayaka was desperate#and with how thh’s cast is not a lot of people would’ve accepted her invitation#but you didn’t even try chihiro????#OR JUNKO???#like sayaka doesn’t KNOW that’s mukuro#and despite being an expert people reader#she doesn’t seem to see through mukuro’s act#as she never acts weird or unnerved by her presence#even hifumi would’ve been a more reasonable option#if she pretended to know something she so could’ve lured kyoko too#it’s just. i know meta wise why they were killed#but it’s so insane to me in universe 😭#queen what were you expecting.#dangantag

@danggirlronpa said there was no akane/mukuro stuff and i had a couple of ideas but the other one needs to be a separate thing so here's the first one
“Tag! You’re it!”
Mukuro shifts her gun from her shoulder, focusing on an empty spot in the courtyard below. “I’m not playing right now, Akane.” She peers through the scope. This is a good spot, but it’s not the best. Junko was wrong.
(Junko wasn’t wrong. She’s never wrong. She’s just testing her. Again. It feels like that’s all she does anymore. Test her.)
“But you’re doing that thing where you climb to the tallest buildings around again.” Akane props a hand on her hip as Mukuro turns around and begins to disassemble her gun. “It’s like hide and seek, only you’re seeing if you can get somewhere tall enough that I can’t climb it to get to ya.” She digs a finger into her ear, picks something out, and flicks it away. “So now it’s my turn, right? I find a tall spot, and you gotta find me.”
“That’s not tag,” Mukuro says as she stands. She lifts her gun’s pack, rests the strap on her shoulder, and walks past the other girl.
But Akane ignores her. “Where you goin’?”
Mukuro doesn’t even spare a glance to her. “To find a better spot.”
“But it’s my turn to hide! ‘Cause you’re it!” Akane scowls. Then she sprints past Mukuro. “I’ll get there before you do! It’s a race, and I’m gonna win!” She pauses just long enough to turn and flash Mukuro a huge grin. “And when I do, you’re paying for supper!”
The school pays for everything, Mukuro thinks as Akane hops over the roof’s edge, likely scaling down the building like a spider. (Junko says they should have called her Ultimate Spider-Woman and laughs about it; Mukuro’s getting tired of all the stupid references, like her sister can’t connect to normal people anymore without reaching for something to compare with her constant thoughts.) She scans the horizon again, finding her next spot. There.
~
Akane is waiting for her when Mukuro arrives, that big, excited grin on her face, head cocked to one side. “Beat ya!”
“I wasn’t racing.” Mukuro walks past her to the edge of the roof and doesn’t even set her bag down. This is a bad spot. Anyone worth their salt would notice that this is a bad spot. There are trees everywhere. Sure, she’s a good sniper, and she can get around that, which means the cover is good for her, but she would rather have a cleaner shot than risk it just for cover.
One shot would kill her prey quickly enough, and by the time someone turned around to look where the shot came from, she would be gone. The cover doesn’t matter. Not this time.
Still.
“Yeah, but you’re still gonna buy me dinner, right?”
Mukuro shifts the weight of her bag and turns back. “Catch me first.”
Akane’s brow furrows. “But you’re not it. You’re supposed to hide, and then—” Her eyes light up. “Got it.” She covers them with her eyes. “You got all of ten seconds before I find you and beat you to a pulp!”
That’s not what—
“Yeah, okay.” Mukuro slips away between counts ten and nine and continues to walk calmly to her next destination.
~
No Akane waiting for her, which means she wins.
Still a shitty place to try and snipe her target, for most people, but it should be fine for her.
Mukuro sets up her gun and fires a muffled warning shot just past Kyoko’s hair as she walks through the courtyard. No one will be able to hear it over the students’ and teachers’ passing talk, and Kyoko flinches long enough, one gloved hand raising to the braid tied in her hair. (Junko said something about some sort of tragic backstory that involved a sniping game and Kyoko’s braids being shot off; Mukuro doesn’t know why or how Junko knows that (she doesn’t need to know; Junko’s Junko), but it means that her test shot brings up enough of Kyoko’s PTSD for her to freeze, means that when Kyoko looks and sees no one, she’ll just chalk it up to some sort of flashback.)
Mukuro leans back and lets out a sigh of relief. She could make the shot from the location Junko chose, but she likes the feel of this one better. The other spot would be better for Junko, would allow her to show off or make some sort of grand gesture, but Mukuro’s not that flamboyant. She never has been. Just let her do the job and—
“Found ya!”
Akane flips over the edge of the roof and smacks her hands together. “You owe me a free dinner, Mukie!” Then she props her hands on her hips again. “Let’s go! I’m starvin’!”
“I thought we were gonna fight.” It’s a statement, not a question, and Mukuro puts her gun’s bag to one side easily enough. She can’t leave it here, because someone will notice – someone other than Junko, who will move it to where she thinks it should go and expect Mukuro to just figure it out (she can be petty that way) – and she can’t afford to have someone fucking with her set-up.
“Well, yeah, obviously we’re gonna fight.” Akane tilts her head to one side again and looks at Mukuro curiously. “But after we eat. Can’t fight ya on an empty stomach!” She reaches over and slaps Mukuro’s back hard enough that a weaker girl would have crumpled. (Mukuro is not a weaker girl.) This time, her grin grows toothy. “And then, when I win, you can get me second dinner!”
Junko would call Akane a hobbit.
Mukuro knows better – hobbits aren’t this tall.
“Winner takes the loser out for breakfast,” Mukuro says, “tomorrow morning.”
Akane beams. “Free food’s free food, no matter when I get it!” She leans forward, and her eyes flash darkly. “You’re on.”
(Mukuro almost smiles.)

I think one of the more interesting possibilities with sparkle, like her backstory, is that she doesn't have one. She makes up stories to tell us, asking which one we think is the 'real sparkle' and she tailors her story to the audience. But what if she doesn't have a backstory that explains why she is the way she is? What if nothing significant or tragic happened to her?
My personal preference would be that she grew up with a normal life as a normal girl. The only dissatisfaction she had is that it wasn't fun for her. She'd pretend to be nice, caring, smart, a real class president type but that was the mask that burdened her. I don't think there was a turning point for her, I think she just realized one day that she didn't have to live this kind of life. In the end, the only "backstory" she has was her growing ennui
I'm probably wrong but it's very interesting to think about
#i have thoughts!!!#this characterization would actually be the same as junko enoshima's from danganronpa#hell sparkle even made a danganronpa reference in black swan's companion quest#again this is my take and im probably wrong but what if!!#honkai star rail#sparkle#hsr sparkle#nanjya.txt#i talked a bit abt this theory in a reply on one of my posts too

I do think I want to say that me thinking Whit is the chapter 2 culprit has not a lot of influence on my older theoris of him being the mastermind or more involved in the killing game.
We don't know how far the rabbit hole goes and considering that we're not talking about a mainline Danganronpa game, i think it'd be foolish to just assume the Mastermind reveal would be the same as a regular Danganronpa game.
#drdt#danganronpa despair time#whit young#whit drdt#don't put your eggs in one basket basically#like we don't even know how advanced technology is#like if what happened to junko in danganronpa 1 means anything is that the death of someone can be used to mislead us on who is the#mastermind

I 1000% prefer this over how she got mikan to fall for despair in Dr3 (honestly it feels like this was what was supposed to be how it went)
(Extra context: it's Junko's (and by extension Mukuro's, which is why she has an option in the first pic) birthday.)
#I hate dr3 sm#This FEELS canon#It fits so well with mikan constantly saying her beloved forgave her#Not saying Junko didn't abuse her#Because even here shes trying to get information from her#But I wish they didnt go the 'she beats her and mikan gets turned on by it' route#Especially when they wote this for the non despair au#Its still fits in the timeline#Especially when Junko is asking about her classmates#Maybe not the date#Because utpd says this is winter break of her third year????#But mikan is still here??? And Mukuro's option she says she watched Yasuke graduate?? Idk what utdp is on#Utdp timeline is totally fucked bc Japanese students don't graduate in December I don't know what school does??#Unless shes talking about last year?? Which is still weird and doesn't make sense#Let's just say Yasuke is uber smart and graduated so early they held a special graduation just for him 100% totally#Anyway#scarposts#junkan#Bandit I know you're watching your show prolly but I don't think you've seen this or I think I would've seen you atleast mention it#Anyway if you haven't think of this post as a get well gift lmao#Also also the 3000+ gossip topics?? She knew exactly what she wanted lmaooo

actually, as i start approaching 20 i realize nana is not a cool coming of age story but it is, in fact, a horror
#as i age i can't blame hachi anymore#i used to throw so much shit at the “adults” for not protecting shin#but now i realizr your power over a teenager is so so limited unless you are his actual family#the best you can do is be a good influence and soft-parent him into being a decent person#hachi's actions make more sense than they did when i was 16 now and i understand how she was petrified to make a decision in those situation#ren's death hits more and more as a tragedy now realizing how young and misguided and stressed he truly was#and yasu too bc honestly as i live closer to people his age i realize he wasnt so much older or even maturer#he took care of others even though he himself didnt know anything much#being put in those situations without the backing of your family or someone actually wise is so so horrible i don't know what i would do#and i do get junko bc of this bc when you are not in the situation yourself it is easy to just be the virtuous one and play god#nana#i will reread this once i actually hit 20

I know Danganronpa’s school mode is non-canon but I still can’t help but read it as Junko deciding arbitrarily to spend fifty days fucking with Mukuro.
Everyone else? Has a relatively good time. As good a time as you can have when being held prisoner and forced to build teddy bears. They’re fairly enthusiastic about tearing up the school with pickaxes.
But Mukuro Junko has no idea what’s going on, as you can glean from reading her mind because Makoto is psychic now. Things are way off plan and her dialogue seems like she’s going more and more off script because she’s just out of script. So she answers in a weird blend of What Would Junko Say? and barely disguised Mukuro anecdotes.
Monokuma is smacking the kids in the face with hang-out tickets and providing a chart of how much people like each other.
Hypothetically, Makoto is going to spend some of the 50 days with Mukuro. So she can flail about trying to stay in character.
And then at the end of it, when Makoto and Mukuro possibly have become close, Monokuma announces he’s going to randomly execute specifically Makoto.
Got your hopes up hanging out with your crush? Lol get despaired loser
#danganronpa#danganronpa 1#spoilers#and then Usami shows up??#and Mukuro has even less of an idea of what’s going on than everyone else#they’re just confused#she thought she knew what was broadly going on and now there’s a rabbit??#did Junko get turbo bored again and pivot wildly into a new direction???#she may wonder

chat I'm asking this seriously genuinely for realsies what did Junko mean by this
#ooc ramblings.#suggestive //#i rewatched the final trial of dr2 and i completely forgot the details of this exchange my GOD#the real Makoto appears and Junko perks right up. it's kind of crazy!! Makoto is not beating the infinite rizz allegations#i think what she said about Makoto's entrance being 'the gallant entrance of the main character' is really conspicuous in a game like#DR2 that's very concerned with its metanarrative about games. What happened to Makoto after DR1 is that he more or less became#the main character of the world because he was able to resist and defeat its ultimate villain. like Junko says he even makes a very tropey#and MC-like entrance! The MC appearing late in a pinch but just before everything is lost is a trope as old as time itself#the protagonist of DR2 is undoubtedly Hajime but I would say the protagonist of DR's world is Makoto. Hajime ends up making a resolve#for the future and freeing himself of that hope/despair dichotomy that defines a lot of the conflict in the series. this idea is also in#NDRV3 with how the audience are clamoring for either the ''hope'' ending or the ''despair'' ending but Saihara rejects both#and ends the entire system third choices included
