with partners like jumin and v it’s impossible for you to not be spoiled rotten — they love providing for you and each make sure, in their own ways, that you’re never without whatever you want, need or crave (whether that’s a home cooked meal, a new outfit, supplies for your hobbies, or anything else)

jumin is incredibly protective of you and v, feeling a lot of guilt about what happened to his best friend (and now partner) in his last relationship and what followed it — so he makes sure that the two of you are accompanied by security whenever you’re out and about (overtly if you’re at a public event, like a gala or a fundraiser by the rfa, and covertly by a smaller group if you’re just running errands or going on a date or something else along those lines)

jihyun took up painting again after settling into your relationship and you and jumin are his muses — pretty much all of his warm up sketches are of the two of you (countless expressions, poses, scenarios, moments captured in pencil and pastel and oils and pen and charcoal and…), he takes pictures of you all of the time, makes sure that you know how wonderful you both are, even if most of his art featuring the two of you never leaves your home

jumin leans towards traditional pet names (like ‘darling’ and ‘dear’, when addressing the two of you) whilst being responsive to anything you use for him — including some ‘sillier’ pet names like ‘honey bunny’ and ‘baby’ — whereas v will generally just call you and jumin by you names or, occasionally, ‘my love’ or ‘my loves’ when addressing you both

Jumin, who never really thought himself to be the romantic type, but loses himself so easily in his relationship with you that he’d do anything imaginable just to see you smile for him. This sophisticated, pressed-suit wearing, stone-faced man who just crumbles when it comes to you, —who once thought love was some sick ruse made to rope people in and keep them hostage to their feelings, suddenly realizing that this rush is marvelous, and he can’t quite clearly remember a time before his heart seemed to beat for you. This man who swore he’d never love someone enough to put aside everything else on his mind and just live in the moment who sheds that dry cleaned business attire at the end of every workday and lets himself come undone for you. His walls come down and he welcomes you inside, and for once, he’s not scared of what will happen when you see the parts of him that perhaps aren’t as pretty as others. Hyun, who stops pretending to be perfect over time and lets you see him in all the stages of healing. This man who often shields himself from the world, hiding behind a mask of narcissistic confidence, who finally lets his imperfections seep through to the surface and breathes another sigh of relief every single time you stay in the aftermath. He lets you in on the insecurities that lap at his ankles much more often than he'd ever had liked to have admitted before. He lets you hold him when he shatters instead of pushing you away, —dulls all his rigid edges to feel your warmth surround him, as if lowering all his defenses for the very first time. The world can be a cruel place to those that have made mistakes, but Hyun feels like he's finally found someone who can look at him for more than just the pretty, well-kempt face he maintains for the public. There's no sense of shame he feels the need to drown in when you let him fall apart in your arms. There's no crushing feeling of disappointment or suffocating feeling of disdain. He's more human than he fears he's ever been when your thumbs wipe the tears from beneath his eyes and you whisper to him that everything will be okay.

Yoosung, who learns over time how to not let things fester until they’ve built up so much he can’t keep them in any longer. For all he is and might not ever be, he’s come to realize that it’s okay to express his emotions before they reach a boiling point. He comes to you at the onset of upsetedness, —allows himself to feel frustrated without stuffing it down and pretending the problem doesn’t exist until it explodes. He finds that it’s so much easier to be earnest when you never talk down to him or make him feel like he’s any less of a person in your eyes because of it. Sometimes he needs advice, and other times, he just needs someone to talk to. No matter the case, he seeks you out before anyone else, knowing that you care enough about him to value his thoughts and opinions without qualifiers or regulations. He holds grudges sometimes that aren’t good for his own sake, and being shut down when he tries to address them only adds fuel to the fire. Having someone who truly listens and tells him that it’s okay to feel the way he does goes such a long way, —perhaps longer than you’ll ever know.

＃ SAEYOUNG (707) !! ♡

Saeyoung, who lets himself be honest eventually, —who lets himself chip away and then lets you smooth him over. He’s done a lot of things he’s not proud of, and he doesn’t need anyone to tell him that it wasn’t his fault. Whether it was or wasn’t doesn’t matter as much as what he knows he has to do going forward, and the last thing he really wants is to be coddled out of pity. He just wants to be heard, no sympathy necessary, no fawning over the way he sheds the skin he used to wear when he felt like happiness was millions of miles away. He just wants to be listened to. To Saeyoung, it’s the ultimate show of trust to admit to all the things he regrets, let them spill out like word vomit and not have to worry about the consequences. He doesn’t need you to understand, and knows you likely can’t given the specifics of his life’s course thus far, but knowing that you’re keen on carrying the burden with him is such an insurmountable feeling of relief. Finally, someone knows every grimy little corner of his soul and they still love him, still hold him, still want him. . . There’s nothing quite like it.

＃ SAERAN (RAY) !! ♡

Saeran, who lets little things slip as time goes on, —stares a little longer when he passes twin popsicles in grocery stores because he knows you won’t ask why. As much as he likes to pretend that he can fix things by pretending they never hurt him in the first place, there are always scars that linger just below the surface, ready to burst at the first sight of mint-colored liquids or at the first sound of deceptively sweet voices offering commands from the shadows. He carries a lot around with him wherever he goes, and just loving him until the sun dies isn’t a cure-all. You can’t turn back time and shield him from all the things in his life that have left him feeling like a shattered stain glass window. All the love in the world can’t fix the past. But there’s nothing that means more to him than knowing he can lean on you, —even if he doesn’t always do it. There’s such a sweet comfort in knowing he can turn to you when he feels like he’s drowning. And if sometimes that manifests only in letting himself shed a few tears while he eats an ice cream cone outside next to you in the sunshine, then so be it.

Jihyun, who talks about it all a little at a time, —about the good and the bad, the ugly and the beautiful; because it wasn’t always bad. There were times before you came in which he’d been so in love that he’d have done anything to stay exactly where he was, to freeze those moments up and keep them in a capsule that could never be shaken. And it’s important for Jihyun to tell you about those things every now and again, to let you in and reminisce on the way he’d once been so sure of it all, so ready to settle down and stay exactly where he was. But it’s equally as important for him to bare the remnants of the betrayal for you to kiss, and hold, and make peace with. He likes to think you understand him better in the wake of it, —that you’ve seen him in a new light every time he sits with you and tells you of the loss, the desire, the yearning, and all the ways he wishes things could have been different for everyone. Some RFA thoughts for Valentine's day 💙💙💙

Warnings: None, other than they're kinda random.

Being lovers with Zen means him designing a brand new skincare routine for you. You are surrounded by multiple creams, masks, toners and cleansers and now you spend twice as much in front of the mirror. Thankfully you have a boyfriend to do your skincare routine with.

Being lovers with Jaehee means you are always going to have seats in Zen's shows, enjoying great musicals together with your girlfriend. And after that you two will enjoy a quiet ride home, side by side, Jaehee beaming beside you, her smile bright enough to wash away your tiredness.

Being lovers with Jumin means you'll never lack of advice. He's one of the most logical people you know(unless the said problem is about you and Elizabeth) so he's a great help when you feel stuck. Don't let him take pictures if you want to upload them somewhere though. Also as a bonus, Jumin takes care of you really well.

Being lovers with Saeyoung means you'll never have to fear for your security on your device or on the internet again. Saeyoung does many things (both known and unknown to you) to ensure your safety. He also creates many small games or toys for you in his spare time, so that means you are never be bored as well.

Being lovers with Yoosung means that you know every game that came out, and if you're stuck, you have someone to pass the levels for you.

Being lovers with V means you will never find yourself ugly again. You have lots and lots of photos taken of you in the best angles and lights, and if they aren't enough, you'll have V to remind you how beautiful and wonderful you are.

MYSTIC MESSENGER MUSIC HEADCANONS :D (RFA + V, Rika, Vanderwood)

Jihyun / V

I think V would love Mitski. Just imagining him painting while my love, mine All mine plays in the background is so sweet. I also think he'd like cavetown, clario, Adrianne Lenker, Liane Flores and Tears For Fears. He often listens to it as background noise when painting or photographing but I also believe he'd practice singing using certain songs (and maybe sing you to sleep HSHSHS)

Jumin

Jumin gives me trouble because I feel like he listens to music for lyrics or lack thereof rather than sound. He listens to blues, jazz, classical and maybe a soft rock love song here and there. If he listens to a song with lyrics, he'll study them. He doesn't really listen to music often but when he does, it's often used as background noise rather than him genuinely indulging.

707 / Saeyoung / Luciel

I think he'd listen to mostly everything but especially synth wave, pop, new wave, rap, noise and glam rock for some reason. I could see him vibing to Depeche Mode one moment and then Fetty Wap the next. He would definitely unironically listen to wannabe by the spice girls LMAO. Also probably really likes tv show intros like iCarly theme or something. AND DISCO!! Seven dancing to bee gees when!?!?

Yoosung

To get rid of the obvious he'd listen to video game osts, pixel (I think that's what the genre is called?) and probably, here me out, pop punk. Or like Falling in Reverse. I think his favourite band would be the All American Rejects but I can also see him liking old demi lavato or Camilla cabello. Both basic white girl music and then randomly pop punk mixed in. As for gaming soundtracks I think he'd really like the undertale ost and probably listens to music through gacha life amv 😔

Zen / Hyun

I FEEL LIKE HIS MUSIC TASTE WAS EXPLICITLY STATED BUT I DONT REMEMBER RAHH okay okay uhm- !! I can totally see him listening to Whitney Houston, Abba, The Cardigans, The Beatles etc for some reason but also he'd feel self conscious that his music taste is too "old" so he would throw in shit like Kendrick Lamar and Future to spice things up and he would never ever admit that his favourite song is Angeleyes by Abba.

Jaehee

Bubblegum Pop, Indie and Doo Wop!!! Mitski, Girl In Red, Kinneret, Princess Chelsea, The Chordettes and The Supremes are frequents of Jaehee's playlist! She only really listens to music on the plane or in the office though. It helps her relax and take her mind off the stress for a bit. I can imagine her learning piano and playing songs like Johnny Angel or Mr Sandman in her free time.

Rika

Rika likes Melanie Martinez and i refuse to argue. She would probably relate really hard to some of her music and overall loves the way it sounds. Can also see her liking Penelope Scott. On the other hand, i see her liking classical or just soft piano music. Color me Blue by Akane would also be a song i can see her liking.

Vanderwood

Metal, Glam Rock, Glam Metal, Dad Rock, 80s rock just. Yeah. You get the point. Metallica, Journey, Mötley Crüe, Guns n Roses, Van Halen, Cinderella, Def Leppord and Dokken !! His favourite bands. Just classic 80s/90s rock for ya. Absolutely goes to their concerts religiously. Probably plays electric guitar as well..he could perform his own concert tbf

after working under jumin for so long, it’s safe to say that jaehee is very familiar with what an unhealthy work-life balance looks like and now that she’s working with you she’s very intent on not falling into familiar bad habits — refusing to let work and stress get in the way of your relationship and doing what she can to ensure the two of you get to spend plenty of time together

having a cup of coffee together in the morning before opening up your cafe, making sure to leave work at the door when you both get home, dancing together to whatever song comes on the radio when you’re closing up your business on an evening, taking your lunch breaks together so you have some time to decompress during the work day, meal prepping as a team, attending new musicals together (both those featuring zen and others that caught your eye), going out on the weekends for proper dates, etc. — needless to say you two spend plenty of time together that isn’t related to work and she wouldn’t have it any other way

after spending all day putting on an amiable and charming facade for your customers or for attendees at the latest charity gala the rfa organised, there’s nothing quite like being able to go home, take off the mask, and be yourself with your partner — having the space to be frustrated or upset or exhausted without judgement, and being able to be there for you when you’re feeling those same things, is so important to jaehee and arguably helps prevent most major arguments because there’s no pressure to pretend and bottle things up with each other

bonus points if the two of you join in on each other’s vents, but she’s just as willing and happy to provide comfort and understanding instead as you rant about that one stupid customer who really got on your nerves today — anger may not be pretty, but it’s human and she’s grateful that you trust her enough to show her the sides of yourself that aren’t strictly friendly or ‘nice’, and that she can trust you not to judge her when she shows you her frustration in return

saeran is someone who knows pain and loss and grief intimately, someone who knows what it’s like to be hurt and used and to be made to lose themselves for the whims of another, and he will do any and everything in his power to keep you from experiencing the same things that he has — and even the smallest amount of pain or illness on your part (like a papercut or a cold) is enough to set him on edge and leave his chest feeling unbearably tight. this fear makes him immensely protective over you — both in the sense that he’d jump in front of a bullet for you, and in the sense that he will nurse you back to health whenever you’re unwell or hurt and will not let you do anything unsupervised until you’re completely recovered

you’re the centre of his universe, the love of his life, and saeran is ready to do whatever it takes to protect you and your peace from the darkness he was raised in… because goodness knows you only deserve the best

quality time

sometimes all saeran needs, more than praise and touch and gentle looks, is just to spend some time with you alone — ideally somewhere quiet where he can just exist with you without the need for conversation or outside entertainment. your presence in general is just really calming to him and he loves being around you, and knowing that you truly enjoy his company in return, even if sometimes he just doesn’t have the energy to do something extravagant or keep up conversation. sometimes it’s just enough for you to be there, with him and with the flowers in the garden.

whether its through his endless pranks and corny jokes over text in the rfa chat, or his so-bad-they’re-good puns and unexpected innuendos that always manage to catch you off guard, or his practical jokes that never cross the line of ‘too far’ and manage to hit just right, saeyoung always finds a way to make you laugh and brighten your day — even if that laughter comes at his own expense sometimes when he’s been a complete idiot

and having you there to understand and mirror his sense of humour means everything to him — because you get it and he doesn’t have to make himself smaller, or quieter, or blander, to fit into your world… you accept him as he is and even manage to use his own methods against him and leave him laughing until he’s in tears, and that means so so so much to him

attention to detail

seven made no secret of the fact that he ran a detailed background check on you when you first joined the rfa, and he also never attempted to hide the fact that he was almost always tuned in to the cameras in the apartment to keep an eye on you, so it shouldn’t come as too much of a shock to say that he knows you extremely well. so well, in fact, that if you didn’t know better it would be all too easy to assume that your darling hacker is an actual psychic for how well he’s able to predict and react to your moods and cravings (even, at times, anticipating you wanting something before you realise it yourself)

and he puts that knowledge to good use: surprising you with gifts he knows you’ll actually appreciate or trips to places he knows you’ve been wanting to visit, knowing what snacks and medications to keep stocked up in his home so you always have exactly what you need, reminding you of an upcoming appointment or birthday or anniversary that he knows might have slipped your mind, and just generally making you feel so understood and seen that it’s impossible to not want to smother him in kisses until his glasses fog up and his cheeks are a deeper shade of red than his hair

gaming / sharing interests

while he does start to game less and less as he gets older (veterinary work keeps him busy, after all), if you were ever to stop by and ask him to teach you how to play then he’s going to be jumping at the chance to share his interests with you — and he’s patient as hell, too, even if you genuinely do suck at the game he’ll just sit back and cheer you on until you’re able to take on an enemy alone and win (at which point he’ll be so genuinely proud it’s adorable)

yoosung is the ‘picks up flowers on his way home everyday’ type of boyfriend, the ‘buys your favourite takeout when he notices you’re feeling down’ type of boyfriend, the ‘helps you take care of yourself when you’re sick’ type of boyfriend, the ‘learns the new game you’re playing just to help you with a level you’re struggling with’ type of boyfriend, the ‘gives you his coat and freezes on the way home type of boyfriend’, and the ‘helps you revise for your exams and interviews’ type of boyfriend — and he does it all with determination and a boyishly charming smile because, to him, you’re worth all of that and more

and if you’re the type of partner who would do all of that for him too — who makes note of all the important dates so he doesn’t forget, who helps him clean his wounds after his encounter with mint eye without a hint of a complaint, who ties his ties for him before he goes out to work just because you can, who makes an account on lolol just to play with him, and who is there with him on those late nights during exam season to keep him healthy and sane — then he’s going to have to fight the urge to propose to you then and there

Hi! I wrote this quickly at.. 8pm the night before posting because the post that was meant to go up today made me a tad uncomfortable, so, alongside this, I wanted to reinstate a very important boundary of mine. I will not under any circumstance write anything that goes against my moral compass, this includes putting the characters in situations they would really struggle with, or ship content between family members (I can't believe I need to mention that, no I will not write choicest).

She squinted a little as she watched her husband change, he'd been away in a business trip until recently - working hard like always to make the best out of life and to make sure you, his sweet love, had everything you could want for and more. You had missed him, of course you had, but you understood his work was his life and that it would only be a week until he was back in your arms and in the bed you shared together. 

Everything had seemed normal when he got home, His gentle kiss on your temple, the autumn scent that followed him lingering in the air once more. His smile was still as infection as you remembered so nothing would have prepared you for the change in his routine.. the big change 

“Hunny, why do you have cats on your boxers?”

The question caught him off guard as he looked down, an annoying grunt as he quickly pulled his bed trousers on instead. He had been in such a rush to get home to you that morning he hasn't checked what he was throwing on, his shirt buttons were wonkey, he'd run through security with his flys down and now… now he was wearing cat boxers.

“Don't ask..go to sleep”

— Focus. — [Reader] slapped her cheeks lightly.

She sincerely hoped no one had seen her at that moment.

Once again that day, she was nervously fixing her hair and examining her new dress. She hoped Jihyun would like it. She felt nervous and determined at the same time.

Smoothing out the tiny wrinkles in the fabric, she tried to gather her courage and form the right words in her head. It felt like ages before she made her decision.

Now, however, quite calm, she entered the cafe with a smile on her face, searching for blue hair. She wanted to have it all over with.

To her surprise, a blond-haired woman was sitting next to the tall photographer.

— I'm Rika. — The stranger held out her hand.

The woman accepted it hesitantly.

She had to resign that day but she believed that she would still find an opportunity to confess her feelings.

[Reader] was intoxicated. She definitely overdid the wine. From time to time, her loud laughter could be heard in Jumin's apartment, scaring away Elizabeth The 3rd.

— I have a toast to propose — V announced, rising solemnly from the couch.

The woman was sure that nothing could spoil her good mood that evening.

— Rika and I are engaged.

She almost spilled the red liquid on the carpet.

— Congratulations! — Jumin nodded.

There was no denying that the head of C&R accepted it with his typical stoic calm. Perhaps he had been anticipating this moment for some time.

[Reader] stared blankly into her glass, trying to digest the information once again. Her head was buzzing and putting her thoughts together was very difficult. Therefore, pretending to be enthusiastic was rather bad.

It started with an innocent tear rolling down my cheek. But before she knew it, she was roaring loudly, sniffling. She didn't look pretty at all, being drunk and snotty. Fortunately, the photographer handed her some tissues from the nearest table. He was afraid that if the woman started reaching for them herself, she would end up falling.

— Everything's all right?

Something inside her screamed to lie to his face. She couldn't imagine telling him the truth. In the current situation, her confession would only complicate their relationship.

— It is okay. I just fell apart because — she took a ragged breath — I'm still alone. Don't get me wrong, Jihyun. I'm very happy but I'm just a little envious of you.

She blew her chance a long time ago.

— I'm sorry, ladies and gentlemen. — She got up. — I'll go fix my mascara, it's probably smudged. — She staggered towards the bathroom.

She glanced in the mirror, realizing she hadn't brought her makeup bag.

— My excuse sucks — she muttered. — I didn't even wear make-up today...

The woman couldn't stop her hands from shaking as she searched through the vast purse.

It felt like everyone passing her in the park was laughing at her lack of self-control.

Staring at the smartphone screen, she dialed Yoosung's number. She knew that if she looked at V, her efforts would be in vain.

— [Reader]-ah, don't call him.

— How? How can I hide all this from him? Can you hear yourself? Haven't you seen him suffer?

It hadn't been long since she found out that the photographer was going blind because of Rika. Meanwhile, she learned more secrets. Her friend's would-be fiancée did not commit suicide and intended to found a religious cult. As if that wasn't enough, she used Saeran — Luciel's brother — for this purpose. Almost no one at RFA knew of its existence.

Jihyun reached for the phone but did not disconnect the call. He placed his hand on her shoulder, as he did when calming others down.

— I know he's been through a lot but think how dangerous it is for everyone in the organization. The very fact that you found out carries a risk.

— You wouldn't have told me anything if you didn't need my help — she said reproachfully. — How will you manage to keep it all a secret? They will hate you...

— Noona, nice of you to call. — The voice suddenly came over the loudspeaker.

She carelessly looked up at her broken friend and knew that she would not be brave enough to tell the truth to the youngest member of the organization.

— Sorry, I dialed the wrong number. — She laughed as much as she could. — We'll talk another time. — She pressed the red button.

She didn't know what she should say or do. It was hard to find the right words, especially after being asked to be discreet. She also couldn't imagine physically trying to penetrate Magenta like V wanted to do.

His love was enormous but unhealthy and destructive.

Everything was complicated.

— I'll help you. — She hugged the man. — Just promise, no more secrets.

— We're drinking wine again, again in the same apartment, again on the same couch…— [Reader] said, sipping the dark red liquid.

She felt her melancholic mood take over.

— It's just a pity that our group has become smaller — added Jumin, gently stroking the snow-white cat.

The woman tried to remember the times when the photographer actually took part in meetings. However, it seemed very distant. Especially when she realized that at this point he was probably hanging around a cult among mentally ill people. As if it wasn't enough that he was losing his sight.

— Holy shit, I'm worried about him — she blurted out, knowing there was nothing more she could say.

— I ask you to refrain from saying such words in front of Elizabeth The 3rd.

— You're right, I'm sorry. — She sighed, finishing her glass.

[Reader] managed to get used to the idea that Jihyun Kim's love will never be hers. Ironically, that was when death took him completely from her life.

— V was always consistent and reliable. He was my role model — Jaehee said.

— He was a good friend, teacher and mirror of truth — Jumin said.

— A warm, honest person who gave me a new family — Zen added.

Everything said in the past tense. As if they needed to be reminded emphatically that he was not with them.

But isn't that what funerals are for?

— I hated him... but I forgive him — Yoosung said.

She wanted to shout the truth to the youngest member of RFA. She wanted to tell him loudly and clearly that Jihyun did not commit suicide and that Rika was to blame for everything. After all, not directly but she was the one who killed him.

But she didn't say anything. She had no right to make him suffer any more.

— Don't be lonely there. Don't try to save anyone. Live selfishly. — Saeyoung raised his eyes upwards.

Maybe as a Baptist he has already seen a photographer in another place?

— Goodbye, V.

— I will never forgive you for leaving alone.

— Excuse me for a moment.

— Yoosung?

— I think he needs some time to himself. Let's leave him.

— People love, hate, kill... and then love again.

— Don't play philosopher again. I feel like my brain is failing.

— Are you sure we can leave Yoosung alone?

— He'll be fine. I know how he feels.

[Reader] heard the entire conversation but was unable to match the sentences to the people. She still had the feeling that the funeral was somewhere beyond her consciousness. It takes place but soon life will return to normal and she will see Jihyun surrounded by his friends again.

She moved away from the mourners, heading towards the blonde.

— Rika-noona... You'll get cold standing here. You're really not going to say anything now? I should be happy that you're still alive, and yet... I feel so strange when you don't say anything. Everything is going wrong. I would never have thought... that V would commit suicide. When I see all this, it's so hard to hold back my tears. I hated him but now I'm not sure about anything. God, Rika, say something. Do you think V really loved you? Did he really love and try to protect us?

[Reader] glanced at the woman's unnaturally calm face.

— Sun... — A quiet, strange voice, not fitting for its owner.

— Could you repeat it? — the boy asked, confused.

— Sun.

— What are you talking about...

— I kept my promise V. I'm here — Rika whispered, her eyes sparkling with joy.

[Reader] sat alone by the large window in the almost empty apartment.

The corkscrew and bottle lay sadly next to her.

Drinking alone had never seemed pleasant to her.

Seoul was just welcoming the first day of spring. The woman thought that the event coincided perfectly with her moving out. The company managed to collect all the boxes and furniture and she said to goodbyes to all RFA members. A perfect time to start over.

She focused on the flowers behind the glass. There was no wind outside and yet for a moment it seemed to her that the daffodils were bending.

— Cheers to you... if you're really up there... and to my life... because without you it's so hard to live. — She raised her glass.
