July went by so fast 😵‍💫 I can't believe there's only one month of summer left 😭

📚 July reads: -The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern -Botticelli in the Fire and Sunday in Sodom by Jordan Tannahill -Maus by Art Spiegelman -Forget Me Not by Julie Soto -Killers of the Flower Moon by David Grann

they're all standouts in their own right, but I kinda can't wait to read The Night Circus again to get lost in the world 😍 Maus and Killers of the Flower Moon are both incredibly important works on the Holocaust and systemic murders of the Osage Indigenous Americans, respectively.

nothing to note in my receiptify, but I mostly listened to podcasts in July, so this might not be super accurate

moving on to school and focused time, I finally got a job so I no longer have to job hunt 🎉 and I finished sorting my photos so I don't have to do that again until next year!

as for school, it's bad right now :( I'm not sure if I just don't gel with my prof or if I actually don't understand the material, but I'm struggling :/ my midterm is tomorrow but I don't have high hopes for it. I just want it to be done.

I do have plans to finish summer on a high note, I just gotta keep going 🥲

My plan was to try new art things with each drawing I make, learn new tricks, and apply/practice them. By doing this I increased creating time by a lot and so it wasn't wise to continue. Not when quantity is more important than quality.

I'm very glad that I didn't push myself too much and didn't burn out from this experience.

Regarding Art Fight event management itself. Disappointing and bad.

🅧 Frequent maintenance in the first days indicates that admins were not prepared well. Assets were provided with delay. 🅧 Some small parts of the website are still broken as many years before. 🅧 The whole freaking drama unraveled among the staff in the only month everyone needs them to do their work well! Scam, staff shifts, owner change, negativity. Toxic and unprofessional. 🅧 Changes made to the event DURING the event. For example, team points calculation, changes to the search filter, and more. All the changes should be made BEFORE the time. 🅧 Bad Discord server maintenance. Poor structure, boring, immature. I expect more from Discord partners, for an old event with a huge community. I don't see a reason for me to be a member of their server in this situation. 🅧 Artists delete/archive their characters during the event. It's irritating at least. What if I'm in the process of drawing? I won't be able to submit my attack.

When time/energy allows, I plan to create TikTok content from all the speedpaint recordings I made during July.

🎨 Art Summary 2024 🎨

I did the thing I missed out on last year and picked a clone to represent each month :3 it wasn't too hard considering how I've spent the majority of my time drawing them (finally with some OCs - mine and others' - hell yeah!).

In 2025 I really want to wrap up the Hades AU, finish up the poly sketch requests for good, and play around with my art style: simplify a few things and work on my fear of empty spaces. Gotta learn how to hit that nice balance between noise and calm spaces in my art 💪

Trouble is afoot and it will be a long evening for the White Knight.

The White Knight has been in the Queen’s service for more than half his life. He currently stands beside her royal majesty in the throne room, bearing witness to the thorn in the Queen’s side. A thorn he will be called upon to remove.

Whether he was pushing miscreants from the kingdom with his blade, doling out punishments on behalf of the Queen, or sating her majesty’s sexual desires, the White Knight fulfilled his responsibilities every day of his life. However such consistency was not common in all of the Queen's loyal subjects.

This spy in particular, a faun with broad shoulders and a nervous smile, a tufted little goatee and soft, folded ears. He has a penchant for distracting the castle guards with jovial questions about their favorite snacks. He has often derailed the White Knight's retinue from their duties with gossip from the latest winter festival.

Mr. Tammus had come into the Queen’s service only a few short years ago. The White Knight had been on assignment looking for allies to enlist to the Queen’s service. He’d ventured into the western mountains, seeking the brawn of a clan of minotaurs. It was there that he discovered Mr. Tammus beguiling the clan leader and her grandfather with a musical jig. Mr. Tammus had accidentally broken a curse that had fouled their young with human-features. Mr. Tammus could have asked for anything from the grateful clan but instead requested only shelter and their undivided attention while he performed his latest song.

Upon witnessing Mr. Tammus’ charm on the minotaurs firsthand, the White Knight knew the faun would prove useful for the Queen’s service.

Tammus indeed proved to be a valuable asset with eyes and ears in the community and borderlands, able to strike up friendships all due to his cherub-like face and penchant for outlandish tales that could enchant anyone with ears. He found secrets and gossip in the unlikeliest of places that was useful to the Queen and her royal guard.

Yet there are times where the faun’s flightiness has tested the Queen's patience.

Which is why Mr. Tammus is currently on his knees and bowing, snowmelt slipping from his hair onto the floor. read on ao3
