Why do I believe Olrox is an amazing character/villain?

It is incredibly common to see portrayals of native civilizations of Latin America, as this group of barbaric and ignorant people, who where blessed by the arrival of the colonizers (believe me, I am from Central America and there a lot of schools that still teach history that way); and with Olrox being set as this villain in the story, it could had been really easy for the writers to fall into this trope…. But they didn’t!

Far from the stereotypical portrayal, Olrox it is shown as this incredibly smart and calculating man, who moves and talks with an exquisite elegance. His character design while showing his vampire features, it doesn’t lose the native appearance – the hair, the wide jaw, the skin tone… I mean, the man is gorgeous. And he is queer! Is so hard to see queer latinos, let alone native latinos. A+ on that decision.

But aside from appearance, my favorite thing is how appealing he is as a character.  The first glimpse we see of him is attacking Richter’s mother, which establishes him as this villain that will hunt the protagonist’s nightmares; Julia attacked something he loved, so he retaliated… I’m not saying it is a justification, but in Castlevania universe, that is how things get done.  Later, we learn that the violence shown was an exception to the rule. Olrox may be a fighter, but he is a survivor first. The alliance with Erzebet, the hiding and running away… he values his life over winning a war.

Which sometimes will make you think, this person is a coward, but in Olrox defense it is because he already lived through being a brave soldier and that only led him to see his civilization fall, the dead of his loved ones and the loss of his humanity all at the hands of the same kind of people that it is now raging war on France. He has no interest in seeing history repeat itself, at least not until something dear to him is in danger again.

I believe that inside his cold and stoic demeanor, Olrox loves deeply and passionately.  He did it that way with the man that Julia killed, and he did it with Mizrak. If he had continued fighting with Doltra, he could have won and Erzebet would had been defeated easily… however, Mizrak would had been loss. Why would he continue fighting a war again if the result would be the same: the loss of a loved one? No, he wouldn’t let that happen again even at the expense of saving the world. Because survival is what matters to him, is more important than the glory of a heroic death or winning a war. And that includes the people he loves.

Like, this is probably one of the most interesting characters in Castlevania and they only grasped a little bit of his story. I need a whole season focused solely on Olrox and Aztec vampires.

My favorite thing about every single Belmont in Netflix's Castlevania and Nocturne?

Every single initial appearance radiates sad, pathetic energy.

Trevor's bar fight scene was equal parts hilarious and disheartening. This is the Last Belmont? A legendary clan of Vampire Hunters, reduced to a drunken brawler who gets his nuts kicked in so many times?

Julia Belmont? Bodied by hot, gay Dragon Daddy Olrox while her son watches. He brings the direct Belmont line down to two, and traumatizes the kid so hard he has ED—Enchantment Dysfunction until he becomes an adult.

Richter? Yeah! Literally has to have his first true core memory be his mom be fucking owned by the sexiest god damn bloodsucker in history. Little bro's canon event was to watch his mama be crushed.

Juste? Sure his entrance is cool, but then we realize he's also suffering from ED, he sucks at this whole grandfather thing, his wife and bestie killed, and he could never even confront his own blood over the death of his fucking daughter.

I love the fact that every single Belmont makes the worst first impressions. Regardless of sex or gender or age. They just fucking suck when introduced.

The thing about the Belmonts is when it comes to vampires, they tend to have a “whip first, ask later (or no ask at all)” tendency, and I can argue that they have a bias against vampires in general, which is understandable given that they’ve been a vampire-hunting clan for centuries since Leon Belmont. This tendency is seen when Trevor attacked Alucard as soon as he saw a hint of fangs, despite the fact that he and Sypha went down to find the fabled “savior”. This tendency is evident when Juste attacked Tera the moment he saw her with Maria, despite them being relatives having known each other for years. He even said something along the line of “I’ve met lots of vampires, they’re all the same”. It’s safe to say Julia likely shared this bias. So, it doesn’t matter whether Olrox’s lover was a benign vampire who ate animals or a bloodthirsty beast on a rampage; as soon as Julia saw fangs, his fate—and hers, by extension—was already sealed. It was just unfortunate all around.

It’s also worth noticing that she had not met Alucard, so she never knew that not all vampires are the same. But even if she had, it’s unsure if her attitude towards vampires would have been different. After all, Alucard is, to the Belmonts, an exception because 1. He fought with their ancestors and 2. He’s only half vampire.

Super obsessed with the idea of some random Belmont (not Trevor or Sypha) coming back to life long after the family has died out with Julius' passing.

I want them to be confused.

I want them to be angry.

I want their overall mental state to be absolute shit.

How'd they get resurrected if their grave is undisturbed? What kind of necromancy can bring someone back without a body? How are they even supposed to survive without an estate to come back to?

In the absence of other Belmonts they'd probably go looking for one of the other off-shoot or in-law families (Morris, Helsing, Riktor, Lecarde, etc), and whoever they found would definitely track down and tell Alucard after a while.

I'm imagining that Alucard would receive an extremely abridged version of the story, because whoever wound up sheltering the resurrected Belmont wouldn't want to risk any breaches in security.

He'd try not to get his hopes up, rushing over as fast as he could to meet with them while becoming almost giddy with excitement despite himself, only to realize that instead of an old friend it's a super obscure Belmont who he either barely knows or doesn't know at all (we'll say that his gap of time spent away from the family was much longer here, and that more generations elapsed without him present).

Or, better yet, it's a Belmont who Alucard had a not-so-great/borderline hostile relationship with for reasons.

Some part of him would of course be happy to see any Belmont, regardless of personal history, but despite his best attempts he'd be hard pressed to hide his bitter sadness and disappointment.

This would make things extremely awkward for both parties, and probably make the Belmont feel some very unpleasant emotions, too.

I need slow-burn reconciliation, bonding, and eventual hurt/comfort.

Richter Belmont spent his entire life being raised by and surrounded by strong women (his mother, Auntie Tera, Maria.) So of course he knows how to be gentle and loving in romantic relationships with strong women (Annette) 🥰
