Thoughts I had during TGCF S2 Ep 11

The last two reactions took a while, since I was doing a lot of sketching and writing a one shot after listing to the latest Epic livestream on Ytube now let’s get to it!

-Innocent children outside of the palace were spared from the Banquet’s massacre

-It’s the same elderly man from Ep 9!

-You know this Ep’s gonna be awesome once the animation’s upped it’s ante

-The CGI background effect!

-It’s the outer wall of Ba Sing se from ATLA Book 2 Earth, (subtle worldbuilding spoilers from The Scrap Immortal and the Avatar)

-Barren land outside of the wall…

-Hua Cheng’s wraith butterfly

-*takes a really deep inhale* HAAAAAAAH!  It’s the same butterfly from 5 Eps earlier who landed on Xie Lian’s palm as the others swarmed towards FX and MQ!  *Gasps again* He must’ve landed on XL’s hand because of the length he went to locate him in Yong’An’s area.  So if he failed to find him, the butterfly was exhausted, and since he was tired, he rested on Xie Lian’s hand

Hua Cheng: Tongue piercing, and he knows how to use it - next question

Xie Lian: Back dermals. Didn't even flinch while getting them and they look cute on his little back dimples that he has because I say so!!!

Mu Qing: Nipple piercings. No one expects it, so on the rare occasions he's seen without his shirt on people sustain massive psychic damage and apoplectic levels of gay/bi panic.

Danmei Faves Meet Chopped: The Thought Experiment

(with the caveat that I have not read All The Danmei so actually this is “a limited selection of danmei faves” meet chopped) (also as of their official translations, no spoilers pls)

The Contestants:

1) Xie Lian

Pros: There is not one single thing that you could put into a basket that this man would be intimidated by. Not a single thing. He will cook anything that you hand to him, and be delighted to do so. You cannot phase him with unlikely ingredients or conflicting flavor profiles, he has risen above these concerns. He is smiling at everything he pulls out of the basket and probably scaring the other contestants in the process.

Cons: He might kill someone. Not on purpose. He will be out after round one, guaranteed, once the medics standing by in case of cuts intervene for a severe case of “all the judges are now poisoned.” Filming will probably have to stop so ambulances can be called. The crew generously allows him to take his leftovers with him.

2) Wei Wuxian

Pros: He is going to pack so much flavor in every bite! Every single bite! This man knows and embraces spice, and no one will be able to tell him that his meal is bland or underseasoned! Chili oil all over the damn plate!

Cons: The flavor is pain, he’s used every pepper the pantry has, and if he makes it to round two it’s only because of Xie Lian accidentally unleashing the horrors in round one.

3) Mo Ran

Pros: He’s a good cook! He makes a variety of dishes, and he’s gotten used to adjusting recipes for specific preferences. He’s well-traveled so it’s likely he’s encountered many ingredients and had practice in a variety of conditions, which is good experience to have in this competition. He’s been doing his best to be on his best behavior, but heaven help anyone who monopolizes the fryer.

Cons: Again - he’s been on his best behavior, but that’s really for one person who is not currently in the kitchen. He also only really cooks for one person, who has particular tastes.

4) Luo Binghe

Pros: Also a good cook! He, too, has a range of dishes he knows how to prepare, with years of practice going back (probably) as far as his adoption in his early childhood. He is well-traveled as well, with such exciting and… unique locales such as Hell Dimension (aka Endless Abyss) where he probably had to make… questionable culinary choices, so he probably won’t be thrown by whatever’s in the basket.

Cons: There’s a non-zero chance that there’s blood in the food.

(Of this particular line-up, I think it would come down to Mo Ran vs. Binghe for the dessert round, which will be a close call - they both have experience with desserts, I imagine, but I think Mo Ran might have a slight advantage considering Chu Wanning’s sweet tooth. He’s made a lot of sweets and more often. Also, can Binghe lean on a “protagonist halo” when Mo Ran is the protagonist of his own story?)

(Assuming the final round doesn’t devolve into chaos and sabotage, which… is very, very possible.)

The Non-Contestants:

Hua Cheng: Could he do well on chopped? Almost certainly. But why would he? He is here to cheer on gege.

Lan Wangji: Would probably actually do better than Wei Wuxian, if he cooks the meal to Wei Wuxian’s taste - I feel like he would be a little more sparing with the spice. Otherwise, his food is probably too bland for the judges.

Chu Wanning: He has one good dish, and it’s [redacted]. He could last a round but after that he’s probably out. He will do his best. He will not look like he is panicking (he is panicking).

Shen Qingqiu: A millennial who choked to death on bad food and rage. He probably has limited kitchen skills, but beyond the powers of having a microwave? Who knows.

Bonus Round:

Li Yu: He would try so hard. He would put every bit of skill he had on the table. He does not have any skill to put on the table. Do not put a fish in his basket, do not do this to him.

Mu Tianchi: Probably wouldn’t even compete. He’s going to steal Li Yu’s food from the judges. How dare they.

Chang Geng: He could probably do well in the competition, if he could be convinced to compete, but he probably couldn’t. He is smiling very politely at the producer, who is feeling a chill down their spine and backing away slowly.

Gu Yun: Do not let this man in the kitchen, he will cause problems on purpose.

Yin Yu blinked at the preposterous suggestion made to him. He blinked again.

“So,” he said, "let me understand this. You want to pretend to court me, someone who you have had minimal interactions with, in the hopes that the person you do like, will get jealous?”

“Yes!” Feng Xin exclaimed.

“General Nan Yang,” Yin Yu sighed. “I am the last person General Xuan Zhen will be jealous of.”

“How do you know it's-” Feng Xin spluttered.

“One,” Yin Yu interrupted, holding up a finger, “I am a ghost. Two, I am the Waning Moon Officer of Ghost City whose master is Hua Cheng. Three, I am a disgraced banished former Heavenly Official. Four-”

Feng Xing reached over and grasped his hand, stopping him. “It's outrageous, I know. And I know we have barely spoken to each other, but please help me on this,” he pleaded.

Yin Yu opened his mouth to reply when they both turned to look for the source of a thundering sound coming their way. A young man with furious eyes topped by wild hair was charging towards them.

Yun Yu gently but firmly pulled his hand from Feng Xin's grasp. “Four,” he continued telling the man. “I am currently, officially, being courted by His Highness Qi Ying.”

Feng Xins's eyes widened when he saw just who was furiously running towards them, towards him. “Oh, fuck!”

He turned and ran. Quan Yizhen in hot pursuit who only stopped long enough for a quick “hi shixiong!” before he was off again.

“I'm not sure why that buffoon thought his stupid idea would work.” A quiet voice said from behind Yin Yu.

He turned to the one who spoke. “If you would simply let him know how you feel, General Xuan Zhen, then he wouldn't be doing things like this.”

A shout drew their attention for a moment, Quan Yizhen had Feng Xin in a choke hold. “It wasn't fucking real!” Feng Xin was shouting, slapping Quan Yizhen's arm.

Mu Qing smirked at the display. “It's more entertaining to see the idiot coming up with hare-brained schemes and then get beaten up like this. I know my feelings. And seeing Feng Xin be stupid instead of telling me his intentions, tells me of his feelings as well.”

Yin Yu frowned but didn't respond. After all, he ran from Quan Yizhen for a long time, rather than confront his own feelings about the man, which he did, eventually. He's not one to judge.

“Shall I play the mediator Mu Qing?” A third voice joined the conversation. It was His Highness Xie Lian. Hua Cheng was behind him, arms folded and smiling sinisterly at Mu Qing.

Mu Qings's eyes widened. “Th-that won't be necessary! I will do it, eventually.”

Xie Lian seemed sad, his lips pouting slightly. “Just don't string Feng Xin along for too long,” he asked. “Or you both will be hurt, and I'll be sad.”

Yin Yu watched Hua Cheng furrow his brow at that statement.

“Gege,” he said to Xie Lian. “If these two make you sad, I'll take them to Mount Tonglu and throw them down into one of the spider web pits and leave them there until they sort this out.” He threatened, looking Mu Qing in the eye to let the man know if he was serious.

Yin Yu covered his mouth with a hand to hide the smile that appeared. Hua Chengzhu did something similar to him with Quan Yizhen. It was highly effective.

Mu Qing glared at Hua Cheng, then sighed. “Fine!” He threw up his hands. “I'll talk to him about it. Right now!” He stormed off towards Feng Xin and Quan Yizhen who currently held the former above his head, like he was displaying a trophy. Feng Xin was still yelling. Mu Qing ignored the inquisitive gaze of Quan Yizhen and spoke loudly to Feng Xin. “Ju Yang! I hope you are prepared to empty your coffers when you court me!” His face was red. “I won't be bought with cheap trinkets!” He crossed his arms, turning his nose up.

Feng Xin was stunned. Quan Yizhen dropped him, the man letting out an “oof” as he hit the ground. His face became red as well when he understood the meaning of Mu Qings's words. Some more words were said between the two but they were too quiet to be heard. Feng Xin hesitantly reached out to grasp Mu Qings's hand with his own. They didn't look at each other; their faces were as red as Hua Cheng's robes.

Yin Yu watched the scene play out while Quan Yizhen came over to stand next to him.

“Crimson Rain,” he said, turning to Hua Cheng. “Thank you for telling me about General Nan Yang’s intentions towards shixiong. Even if they were fake.”

Something clicked. “Chengzhu?” Yin Yu asked. “Were you the one who put the idea into General Nan Yang’s head about the fake courting?”

Next to Hua Cheng, Xie Lian smiled beatifically. “Now, now, Your Highness Yin Yu. San Lang did no such thing.”

Quan Yizhen barked a laugh, Yin Yu smiled leaning into him.

What if Pei Ming started the Ju Yang thing to fuck with Feng Xin a lil bit?

Like Pei most likely thinks Feng Xin is General Virgin #3 since he's from Xianle and Mu Qing and Xie Lian are obviously maidenless.

So he goes into the dreams of the guy making the name plate for a new temple and convinced him that Feng Xin was a little known God of fertility or he got a big dick or whatever bullshit Pei would come up with. And so Ju Yang is born lol

Well little did Pei know his joke took the fuck off in the mortal realm. He finds out as he overhears Mu Qing RELENTLESSLY making fun of Feng Xin by calling him "Ju Yang" and is like "oh shit, oops lmao" and walks the other way.

xl is the only one who calls hc “san lang”, the other two call him “fafa/huahua” and sometimes “chengzhu” in a friendly lil way, hx also calls him “xiao hua” for “little flower” (hc finds it kinda sweet)

they all call yy “xiao yue” for “little moon”,

hx is called “xuanxuan” :> yy also calls him “baobei”! xl does too sometimes

hc calls xl “gege” and the other two mostly call him “lianlian” or “a-lian” and all three refer to him as “dianxia” occasionally <3

hx likes being in the middle when they sleep together. hc on one side, yy/xl on the other, and then whoever’s left just curls up on top of him like a damn cat. he loves it sm <3

when yy is burnt out, he goes up to whoever he can find and just buries his face in the side of their neck/their chest and they just hug him back until he feels better

xl has moments of just total silence. like he’s used to not talking a lot after years of being more or less entirely alone, so he goes quiet and just listens to everyone else and none of them mind

hc paints nails so amazingly. it is so neat and perfect. yy loves getting his nails painted and also loves matching w hx esp

in the summer, xl overheats while all of his ghostie boyfriends are chillin, so he always seeks them out to cuddle

yy still technically works for hc, but he doesn’t do nearly as much as he used to and when he goes on missions, one of the other three always goes w/ him!

hx takes afternoon naps (YES HE IS A CAT TO ME) and yy or hc usually join him

hc and yy are both kind of insomniacs (ghost city’s eternal night smth smth) so they spend a lot of time together late at night, the same way xl and yy spend a lot of time together early in the morning

hc picks and grows flowers w/ different meanings for all of them!

xl’s is the white carnation (good luck/sometimes means “pure love”)

yy’s is morning glory (affection/love/beautiful dawn (<- which i took as a good new beginning :3))

hx’s is bluebells (gratitude and everlasting love)
