Killer grumbles as he sits on the bench. Trying to ignore the looks thrown his way as parents pull their children away from him.

Which, good! Don't come near him or try to get friendly. He isn't in the mood.

Killer glances around the small park he and Nightmare are in now. And idea from Horror, he figured it would be good for Nightmare to do actual child things which includes going to a park to play and interact wiht others.

Dust, the hovering and motherhenning bastard, had nodded and agreed easily. Until it became obvious that it wouldn't be him that would take Nightmare to the park.

Killer is still not quite sure what caused this... weird thing that Dust got going on. It isn't as if he acts differently, he is still Dust! He is just... Killer doens't know.

Anyway. Dust had been needed to help shadow people for intel. Killer huffs as he crosses hsi arms, he could have gone that just fine.

Horror and Cross however are looking for a magical hotspot to recharge their crystals. Cross could use his knife to cut between dimensions but his power is much more obvious than the crystals and leaves traces.

They pretty much did rock paper scissor to see who would stay with Nightmare. Nightmare hadn't looked like he cared but Dust had looked annoyed at their entics.

Look. Just because Dust was flourishing with taking care of a babybones for some reason meant that they all were!

Killer sighs as his sight easily finds Nightmare. Nightmare is just sitting in the shadw of a tree as he reads his book. Killer isn't surprised. Nightmare isn't exactly the most social babybones, he wasn't either when he was still in his adult form.

The human looks up annoyed before slight worry goes over their face goes back to annoyance "What was that for?!" they stand up and brush themselves off.

Killer hears other people mumble around them and Nightmare starts to shake under his hand. Killer just holds him closer as he rubs his back. Glaring at the human.

Killer huffs as he dismisses the useless waste of space as he turns and picks Nightmare up. His soul finally calms down when it feels Nightmare close and safe against Killer and Killer's soul. It should have been uncomfortable but it is surprisingly nice. The way that Nightmare is warm and tiny and perfect to be held.

Okay. Maybe Killer kinda gets now why Dust seems to take personal offence to the idea of putting Nightmare back on the ground.

Killer walks away and is halfway across the park when a hand reaches for him. Killer turns and has his knife out and a snarl on his face in seconds.

The human, a new one, pulls their arm back and holds their hands up in surrender "right! I am sorry. I should have realised that youwould still be tense after... that." they look back at the other human, who is now surrounded by others, before looking back at him with a smile "My dad owns the ice cream store near here. I am sure he will be happy to offer you two a treat to calm down and relax after what just happened."

Killer frowns as he still feels the lightly shaking form of Nightmare in his arms "As... nice as that is... He is stressed and I don't think being around others will help him with that... Ice crema stores tend to be busy." especially as it is summer in this universe.

The human smiles "I will make sure it is empty! Give you two room to relax! If you don't like it you are obivously welcome to go. I just..." they rub their arm "I am sorry I didn't help. I saw it happen and was frozen and stuck on how i should act or behave. What I could do and what was... appropriate for me to do. You just. did whatever was needed!" they smile.

Killer looks at the human as if they are crazy. He shoots Nightmare a look and Nightmare looks just as shocked, through his own still slightly shaky state. Killer raises a brow at him and nods towards the human "What do you think tiny boss? Want ice cream?"

Nightmare pulls a face at his new nickname but gives ashrug as reply.

Okay yeah Killer will assume that means 'yes but i don't want to admit it because wanting things in the past always got me hurt.'

Killer is not at all projecting.

Killer nods and not much later finds himself in an empty ice cream store. the human having spoken to an older human, their father, and the grumpy old man just listened before nodding and changing the sign from open to closed.

A lot of taste testing later and they settled on a very sweet sunday of some kind. Some very sweet strawberry mouse kinda thing with white chocolate sauce with blueberries on top.

Killer honestly hadn't expected that but maybe he should have. Back in the castle Nightmare had always drunk his coffee with a lot of cream and sugar cubes. Killer snorts as he watches Nightmare enjoy the treat and slowly relax.

The old grumby owner stands by him "Well? what do you want?"

The older human huffs and has a smile on his face "Good to hear. You two take your time." which is when Lass gets to them with Killer's drink before both humans leave to do stuff by the counter and back.

Killer watches them before leaning close to Nightmare "You good? Food actually okay and not bothering you?"

Ngihtmare shrugs as he eats another bite.

Killer grins "Come on tiny boss. Gotta use words or I will just keep talking and tlaking and talking-"

Nightmare groans and shoots him a glare. There is his grumpy buddy! Nightmare turns back to his treat before answering "It is good... Teeth hurt a tiny bit still..."

Nightmare nods and eats his ice cream. Looking content and actually relaxed.

Killer... Killer feels warm and content. Just making sure the other is okay.

He for now is just going to ignore these changes and thoughts. They don't matter too much in the grand scheme of things. Nothing changes after all. Just that he may actually get why Dust wants to look after Nightmare so much.

I'm at the stage of pmdd where I feel awful and guilty because I've convinced myself my flatmates hate me I've been avoiding them and the kitchen like the plague except for sometimes when I pass them on the stairs so I'll say hi or when one of my flatmates visits my floor and I feel terrible they have gone out drinking 6 nights in a row and that got me pissed even tho it's none of my business and they did try to include me and ask if I'm going the first few days but then they stopped bc I literally have been staying in my room all day then I started leaving early and returning late to take away that stress and after went out with friends Friday i was so chill it was the two glasses of alcohol but I thought that maybe I could do this and could go down to the kitchen but it's so impossible and my mum calls me everyday what did you have for lunch and I've been saying so much rubbish like all that food I had bought hasn't been touched even tho I said I've been eating it because she told me earlier how when she left on Saturday she was so worried how would I fend for myself when I was literally pushed into the deep end but she said she felt so much better after I explained how I was doing because I just know it would be 100% worse if i told her the truth. Anyway as I was saying my bread went mouldy and the cheesecake I thought everyone finished went mouldy and I do think my flatmates are nice because this girl asked if forgot that I had some and tbh I want to make an effort but I'm just so damn tired on Saturday they did a pub crawl and I thought maybe that's the perfect time but no i messed that up because I just didn't text them and then today they had a movie night and again that'd be a good way to break the ice but no i messed that up again because I'm sill sitting in the library at 1:50 am. notes from coff-in: aw man, i'm sorry to hear that 'nonnie :( i'm not all that good at comforting strangers but i hope that you're able to enjoy the game still. this is jsut me rambling about my oc, i hope it makes you feel a little bit better or entertained

rambling, oc talk (amy "mimi" graves)

i've been mostly thinking about my oc amy lately. her relationship with nina is supposed to have made a big impact on her that persists after her death. nina was supposed to be her first friends outside of her siblings, a relationship that she would have to herself, you know? a more platonic (possible one-sided romantic) relationship rather than a familial one.

the romantic thing is something i've been focusing on too. mimi forms... really strong attachments to people. or maybe she just really liked nina, and it made nina's death disappearance more impactful to her. leyley's manipulation didn't help either since she told mimi that nina left because of her or something she did (though the reasoning was vague), mimi took it to heart and sort of internalized it.

nina and mimi's relationship wasn't the best because it was a friendship of convenience. they were both using each other for their own goals that weren't friendship or companionship (mimi was seeking it out, but she mostly just wanted to be able to have an outside life from andy and leyley [so she wouldn't feel like she was burdening them so even her outside life was for them] while nina was using mimi to get brownie points for andy's affection). i keep flip flopping their relationship in my head. i like the idea that over time, mimi and nina's relationship became something genuine and possibly sapphic (at least on mimi's side) and nina not reciprocating this feeling would cause mimi to close up and become more inward, i guess. on the other hand, i don't see nina hanging out with mimi any more than what she needed to in order to look good to andy. i'm pretty sure nina was older than leyley (she responds to leyley's plan of hide and seek with "you're such a kid" or something along those lines, which wouldn't make too much sense if her and leyley were the same age).

and since nina was mimi's main/only close friend outside of andy and leyley, the rest of mimi's social life kinda collapses after that. especially since mimi is associated with leyley, no one really wants to hang out with her either (i think her trans/queerness could also play a role in her isolation too, depending if you want to see the game's world as someplace harsh and cruel**). nina's disappearance affected mimi's grades, her mood and personality, and her self-image. what did she do so wrong that nina would just leave? what if she did it again? what she too much? was she too little? it would cause her to detach herself from having a social life... why bother if you're going to fuck up and they leave? it's better to just stay to yourself. if she needs to talk to someone she has andy and leyley to talk to (and even then, they could also leave her. they just can't because they're siblings and currently aren't old enough to move out. but they could. if her own parents don't love her then what's stopping her siblings from not loving her too?)

mimi and amy should feel different, even if it's subtle. nemlei is a remarkably great writer so it's a little hard trying to, uh, replicate her level of writing or depth in her characters. one difference in my head is that mimi likes having affection given to her ("i like hanging out with you" or "you're my best friend") while amy shies away from it (brushing it off or trying to deflect the complements to someone/thing else). having people tell amy that they like freaks her out so much that she screams and yells at them to take it back, to tell her that they think she's alright or the fucking worst or else she won't calm down. she doesn't want a repeat incident like nina again. she doesn't want to get so attached to someone that it'll hurt her when they inevitably leave. it's why she makes herself quiet and small (though she's naturally short), and by small i mean her presence. she doesn't have a lot of her own stuff and anything she has it kept tidy in a box somewhere under a bed or in a closet. her clothes are borrowed or handed down, they're in some sense not hers (even though they may belong to her currently).

i think of a scenario where andrew and ashley try to admit to amy that they like hanging out with her, that they don't want to leave her alone so they can live their own lives or whatever delusion amy tells herself is real. they love her. and she panics. she says "that's nice... thanks" or "if you say so" or maybe a "whatever you say, big bro/sis". the more persistent they are about it, the more aggressive amy gets until she's telling them to "shut up! shut up, shut up, shut up!" or "no! take it back, take it back!!" or even maybe "liar!!" she doesn't like it. how genuine they sound, the gentle looks they're giving her, the honesty in their voice. it's not real... it can't be real because if it is then it'll be more painful when they do leave. she's crying and sobbing as they hold her in their arms, "you can't do that! you can't do this to me..."

or you know, something like that. sorry if it doesn't make sense.

** i think queerphobia wouldn't be an uncommon thing to come across in the world of tcoaal, however i don't know if it would be so prevalent in elementary/middle school... i guess it could be since children tend to echo some bigotry that they hear from adults or others ("that's gay!" "you punch like a girl" said as something negative, etc etc)

my favourite peice of lost media that i want to be found IS my animal jam fan comic that spanned many pages and i dont remember what plot point i was working towards but i jsut stopped making it one day and i think i burned it bc i was filled with embarassment. OOPS

edit: for the curious i will describe it ::-]

One thing I did in the comic that I think is fun is I was combining a lot of game mechanics into the story ::-)

The comic started with my monkey player character (creature cleverclaws) in the tutorial stage given by Liza at the Mira statue. (By now theyve changed the tutorial up so much i dont know what it is anymore... this was cgi liza not the 2d one).

Liza is interrupted by a falling phantom that crash lands next to them and has to leave on urgent business! but creature decides to do their own snooping around in the area, and rather than enter the town visits some woods on the other side of the statue where there are phantoms hiding. creature is initially captured but thinks the phantoms are cool and would love to join them ::-) the last thing i remember them doing was facing a huge cave where the phantom king (which was never revealed at this point, but i had sketches of what he might look like) was hiding in.

meanwhile after liza left, she enters the run down door in the Temple of Zios (which became the adventure base camp), this is a secret entrance to the alpha headquarters where they are all hanging out ::-) they discuss the growing numbers of phantoms and how they may combat them.... sir gilbert is very strategic and war-experienced but greely is argumentative and standoffish. (i will always maintain that greely has some weird evil thing going on for real.) umm i dont remember what other alphas do tbh.

liza goes back to the mira statue and finds that creature is gone and doesnt know what to do...

and it is at this point that i don't remember if i carried this on at all.

dog may remember this but there's a page from an unrelated animal jam coming of the shamans / alphas going to war with phantoms, i think peck charges forward but it injured, and all the other alphas charge forward in retaliation.... it was very Le Epic if i may say...

this was all drawn in a composition notebook so god knows how i managed to even rip them out to destroy them @__@ okay bye

what if i just rambled

like ik people have thoughts that they cant get out but what if i became so autistic enough that i understood the blorbo and- fuck it lets talk about a jrwi character again (spoilers obvi)

i couldnt choose between ollie and jay but i feel like ollie i got more to talk about for so ill do him first then jay cause they feel very connected for no fucking reason

so i think everyone acknowledges that ollie is just a kid but he really isnt just a kid? like he semi has the mind of an adult from the usage of the compass, because it didnt just mature him physically, but mentally too. from what i can guess, it was slow and unnoticeable until it was too big for ollie to know how to handle. thats when ollie was a kid.

yet ollie adapted, and while he really was 12 for that time still, he wasnt a kid. he grew up for a bit, he was an adult. and thats what scared him. because we all have been scared of growing too fast. so when ollie had that hit him like a truck, he didnt want to leave bed and shit. yet he became the adult his body reflected. sure, he never was fully an adult, but thats because hes not just an adult, hes still a kid.

and after he had adjusted to it, he got to have it for a couple more days. then it was gone. all the growth was now unnecessary and he didnt know what to do again. yet he didnt handle it like he did the first time. he thought about it. and again, he got over it. yet he didnt let go of what maturing so quick taught him, and hes still grown after. because hes something in between an adult and child, yet its not a teen or something.

another thing to note: ollie didnt have a say every fucking time. when he aged up, he didnt ask for it. he asked for a way to get him home and maybe it brought out another desire ollie had inside him by using it so much (touching on that more later). when ollie adjusted, he didnt ask to. he probably just wanted to curl away in that blanket and hide, because it was scary out there. yet somewhere inside he thought earl was right (earl calls him a baby or smth because he just keeps on staying in bed) and forced himself to adapt the new adult body. and when he was aged back, he didnt get a say. chip just decided it, thinking thats what ollie wanted. and he did, he did want to be a kid again. yet he wasnt ready yet. but when would he be?

so why do i bring up so much his lack of input? because it sounds similar to how he got onto the albatross. he first was taken from his home, then working with marshal jon, then working with the albatross. now being so amazed by the sea yet scared of its dangers hes been accustomed to quite a bit now, soon enough hes going back home and has to act like he didnt have the most terrifying and great adventure of his lifetime (another detail i wanted to add is theres no way jon and ollie didnt encounter some form of sea monsters or danger after being out at sea so long, we jsut arent told anything about it so yeah extra trauma thoughts).

so to me, ollie's lying (like his dad aka chip would /j). to me, ollie's desire wasnt just to return home. i doubt it was more then just a whiff of a thought that loomed in ollies head. because yeah, he wanted to go home, but not yet. he wanted to be on the ship longer, but not jsut that. he wanted to be able to help his friends. he didnt like seeing his friends come back beaten and bruised, yet being in the corner doing nothing. and he was told by chip that when he was older he could hang out with them on the ship again. so ollie, unknowing of consequences that could happen, wishes for not just a way home, but a way to help. i literally could write theory shit for this cause its not just thoughts for once! niklaus has said that the people's desires can twist from their greed, and maybe ollie didnt realize his greed (or the amount he was asking to be brought real was "greedy" and ollie didnt notice) so it twisted his desire (it being the compass), thus why niklaus doesnt understand what happened with ollie, because accidentally beign greddy can happen, or being greedy in the eyes of another.

i literally dont think ill have the motivation to wrap this up yet so ill do so later

lets start with 3 because thats where the timeline starts

they sleep with an eyemask on bc the scrred eye glows in the dark (it bothers eight)

they value abilities over looks on gear so most their outfits are atrocious unless someone forces them to look good.

they can speak octarian

if they had a penny for every time they let an octarian who just got to inkopilis live with them theyd have two pennies. which isnt a lot but its weird it happened twice right?

which brings us to the next one which is actually an octoling oc i made back in like 2016??? def splatoon 1 era. shes been redesigned a bajillion times but the story is mostly the same. after the octavio fight she is also one of those octos who tried to get to inkopolis. this one was found by three who was like. i jave no idea what ur saying ur coming with the the old man totes knows octarian from his divorce. this n that and they teach eachother language and culture and its sweet and cool and they probabyl had some wlw stuff going on until 3 had a wholeass gender crisis

this is her btw. the drawing on the right is more up to date. im still thinking of renaming her. ill never find a name that fits. her original name was marianna but thats too close to marina!!!!!

shes also a fashion designer! she likes to use traditional octarian or military designs in her clothes. her pieces are not meant for turf wars though. shes still in close contact with three, and they hang out a lot. she wants to get three to ask the squid sisters if they could wear some of her clothes on a splatfest. three forgets.

next up!!!!! agent 4. i have two of those. they independently became agent 4 and then unrelatedly also became college roommates.

hash is more of a canon adjacent agent 4. poser, loser, really dramatic and really loud. kidna does whatever they want and also likes to leave graffitti on the kettles they clear. theyre also an only child. they also call marie mom jsut to annoy her. also their hairstyle is the bob in the front but the back is spiky/shaved. theyre a silly lil punk.

ikarus is a cynical asshole. and also a self centered poser whos set on looking cool for whoevers watching. he has 2 younger siblings and 1 older sister. hes from outside greater inkopolis, thinks hes better than the in city inkopolitans but behaves the exact same. he sucks i love him. he really looks up to n respects marie bc she reminds him of his elder sister. his fav brand is toni kensa

ikarus got the agent job first, n got rlly mad when they found out that theres another agent 4 bc he didnt show up enough nd marie just hired someone else. they share a uniform. they try to annoy eachother by puttinf the weirdest smelling stuff in the uniform b4 leaving it at the canyon. when talking ab em as agent 4 i like to use #4 for hash and n°4 for ikarus

the two also have a 3rd roommate

she doesnt have a name though. and if she does i forgot it :(

the three actually make a pretty good unit in their apartement. hash and ikarus only find out theyre both agent 4 when its time for the boss fight and both of them show up to get it done with. theyre both very competitive. they end up fighting over it and hash wins. ikarus is on the truck w sheldon and marie and is yelling insults at the battlefield until marie shuts him up so she can sing.

thw three roommates also always do salmon run shifts together. if they fuck up on a wave they always blame it on the one freelancer. yes they also kiss.

theyve always been really fascinated with inklings and also were going to become an engineer before running off and landing in the metro.

they are very well spoken but also pretty shy. they try to make a good impression on people. finds it hard to trust others.

it took a while until he got used to sleeping in a bed. still sleeps with an eye open sometimes. its a habit.

theyre usualyl the one forcing three into at least okay looking clothes. oh also this tall loser likes to wear heels n platforms. hes literally taller than marina and still wears heels.

he actually started learning inklish back in octo valley from really outdated books. after coming to inkopolis hes been given a buncha annotated language books from marina (and from three, who still had the ones they used w the other octo girlie). but they still end up using some really old phrases and words that kinda leave some people perplexed.

oh also they're not THAT good at fighting (they were never a soldier) theyre smart and persistent though. still ended up severely in debt w pearl bc of the metro. pearl offered he can just work as stage crew for off the hook for a few tours or so and theyre good. he took the offer immediately bc bro barely got income to repay that all normally.
