Also idk if you have read any of these or if any of them are your type of book, but since you sent me so kindly some suggestions thought I should do the same. Since like I said I haven't been reading that much, these are just some old readings I liked from top of my head. You might also realize that I also have a tendency to books that depict some kind of medical condition or mental health. Probably because I studied Psychology in college. It's probably not your vibe, but I also quite like reading books from special needs teachers and foster care moms that depict real stories and how they helped the kids. The ones I have read the most so far are Torey Hayden, Cathy Glass and Casey Watson
The Language of sisters by Amy Hatvany
Behind closed doors by B.A Paris
The first day of spring by Nancy Ticket
The Midwife's confession + The Silent sister by Diane Chamberlain
The Whisperer by Donato Carrisi
She's a bit of a mainstream author, but I quite like Dorothy Koomson. I think her earlier works are a bit more chick flick territory, but I only read one of those and I thought it was fun and light and not too bad. So these are my suggestions: My bestfriend's girl + The Rose petal beach + The woman he loved before + The chocolate run
Other mainstream author I like sometimes is Jodi Picoult. Now, she sticks to a formula so if you don't like the structure maybe you won't like her books. Also I don't read all of her books, but thematically wise not all of them interest me. I think the ones I liked most so far are Handle with care and House rules
I can't say the whole series is good cause I haven't finished it, but I have like the detective Will Trent series from Karin Slaughter
A bag of marbles by Joseph Joffo
Born survivors by Wendy Holden
My undergrad was actually in English and Psych, I have counseling certification and my PGCE is for English and PSHE (Health/whatever tf it’s called in other places) and I also have a SEN certificate and work with special needs teens so yes that kind of thing actively interests me but I don’t know if I’d read it for “fun” per se because that always makes me think of work/studies etc. I actually teach history but I did that more out of passion so I think that’s why I’m more keen to read like history nonfiction just for fun whereas that other stuff always just feels like… work. And it’s funny you mention fostering because that’s something I think I may well want to do when I’m much older (specifically teens). I’ve read some of Cathy Glass’s books and did enjoy (or maybe the word enjoy is the wrong word but I found it interesting and she writes beautifully). I’ve heard of Torey and Casey but haven’t read their work.
I like a few of the writers/books you mention and a bunch more I haven’t ever read or heard of so I’m definitely going to check them out! Thank you so much!!
