Deep in the heart of Jakarta's slums lies an impenetrable safe house for the world's most dangerous killers and gangsters. Until now, the rundown apartment block has been considered untouchable. Cloaked under the cover of pre-dawn darkness and silence, an elite SWAT team is tasked with raiding the safe house in order to take down the notorious drug lord that runs it. But when a chance encounter with a spotter blows their cover and news of their assault reaches the drug lord, they find themselves stranded on the 6th floor with no way out. The unit must fight their way through the city's worst to survive their mission.

Something funny/cool I've noticed about the Scott Pilgrim Takes Off soundtrack is that with all the keyboard and synth, a lot of its tracks have a real moody, cyberpunk feel when you listen to them on their own.

Like in addition to having the absolute PERFECT name, Ramona's and Roxie's big reconciliation theme feels like something right out of Bladerunner.

I'm late but happy Film Score Day (April 3rd)!!!
Just a few of my favorite film scores include Star Wars, pretty much any Christopher Nolan movie score but especially Interstellar, Inception and Tenet, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and of course my all time favorite soundtrack, TRON: Legacy.
And of course I have to honor the amazing composers behind these amazing albums as well. The absolute legend, the Maestro himself, John Williams. And perhaps the second best to do it, Hans Zimmer, who along with Ludwig Göransson help create my favorite parts of Nolan films. And it's not a movie but Göransson's soundtrack for The Mandalorian is phenomenal. On the subject of Star Wars shows I have to mention Nicholas Britell and Kevin Kiner. The Kiners are the true successors to John Williams' Star Wars legacy. And of course Daft Punk and Joseph Trapanese created the soundscape that is Tron, and Trapanese did it again with M83 on Oblivion. I could go on but my last two favorite film composers would be Klaus Badelt and Nathan Furst. Badelt of course did the first Pirates of the Caribbean (though Zimmer often gets credit for all of those films) and he also did one of my personal favorite movies, ExtremeDays. And Nathan Furst just went way too hard for the third BIONICLE direct to DVD movie. I mean, that Web of Shadows soundtrack is solid!
Here's a playlist of a lot of my favorite soundtracks, mostly in a similar vibe so not every Williams score is in there:

There has apparently been some discussion over the years about whether Daft Punk truly were the composers of the Tron Legacy soundtrack, or if they "stole credit" from other people, specifically the orchestrator Joseph Trapanese. I've managed to find a very interesting interview with Trapanese, which goes into many interesting aspects of the creation of the soundtrack (it took two years to make, which is apparently an unusually long production time for a film soundtrack) and the relationship between him and "the robots" (Daft Punk). It's well worth a read:
In case you don't want to read the whole thing, I think this quote is Trapanese's answer to the controversy: "The fact is that (Daft Punk) was involved in every single note that you hear in that film. The credits are very fair on it. ... The fact is, the word composer is attributable only to Thomas and Guy-Manuel. Period."
So there you have it. Of course, one could speculate that Trapanese is "too humble" or that he doesn't want to stir up trouble and risk career opportunities or something like that, but to me that just feels like conspiracy theories. I think it's better to just take his word for it, unless he says something different in some other interview I haven't read. Still, I do have a great respect for Trapanese's work, especially when he went on to do the soundtrack for Uprising. He definitely shouldn't be forgotten by Tron fans.

thoughts on the shadow and bone season 2 score! (part one)
from a s&b fan, non-professional cellist, and soundtrack enthusiast (listening before the show drops)
1. On the Run (3:42)
definitely mal and alina theme- great to be back with trapanese!!
2. Market Chase (2:49)
fuck yeah!!! love the chase music and the cellos really carry the soundtrack in the best way (not biased or anything but really they’re the best objectively) also the haunting, ethereal flute theme from the middle was amazing - definitely guessing mal/alina are getting chased based on that theme callback
3. Tolya and Tamar (2:14)
i’m in LOVE! giving me real pirates of the caribbean vibes in the best way— playful but also a bit of danger *chefs kiss* also the transition to some of the crows’ theme from “just ask” is such an interesting choice (and one of my fav parts from the s1 soundtrack!!) makes me intrigued about if it’s a cut to a different scene with the crows or if they interact that early👀
4. Wylan (2:28)
i wonder if this track is wylan’s theme or if it’s playing while he’s being introduced— not as clear cut as tolya and tamar’s theme. very airy and anticipatory, and the staccato at the end really contributed to those feelings
5. Come Sail Away (2:03)
i’ve listened to this on repeat since they released it as a single. love. epic. definitely a fight scene or at least one with a lot of tension and action.
6. Brother (1:47)
yeah if we had any doubt it was kaz, it’s gone now. i’m not ready to see that scene. music isn’t too overbearing and leaves a sense of silence even in the sound (if that makes sense), very haunting and full of dread. maybe i’m projecting but i don’t see how this could be a different scene with the track having this title.
7. Arriving at the Island (1:09)
pretty short track. my guess for the island is kerch? seems like the sun summoner team is gonna go to ketterdam 🙌 based on the inclusion of their theme
8. Crows Ambushed (2:27)
oh this is great (the music not the crows getting ambushed). the fast tempo and ominous slides are perfect. love me some chase music. would be so fun to be in the orchestra playing this one.
9. Return of the Useless Grunt (1:25)
kind of unsure what this will be. i jokingly said it was gonna be mal but i’m genuinely uncertain. different vibes than all the other tracks so far and has a bit of a tonal shift towards the middle.
10. I’m Here for the Killers (2:16)
ooh. hellgate maybe? gives very dark vibes. really enjoyed the tremolos at the end accompanied by an almost marching theme- but very much like marching to the gallows. doesn’t have much overlap with the other themes we know except maybe in key.
