the norse gods
WYRD: destiny, the past that led up to the present
ORLOG: the relationship between actions and outcomes, the things in the present that affect the future
our primeval chaos this round,
GINNUNGAP: an area of abyss in between Niflheim (ice) and Muspelheim (fire). when these two regions grew in power and clashed, water was created
for once we only have one creation myth,
YMIR/AURGELMIR/BRIMIR/BLAINN: ancestor of the jotnar, he was born from venom that dripped from the rivers in Ginnungagap. fed on the milk of Auðumbla, Ymir bore a male and female out of his armpits and a six-headed being from between his legs. Odin, Vili, and Ve created earth from his flesh, oceans/rivers/lakes from his blood, mountains from his bones and teeth, trees from his hair, clouds from his brain, heavens from his skull, and Midgard from his eyebrow
AUÐUMBLA: primordial cow that was created from the fluid of melting ice in Ginnungap, she fed Ymir and licked the god Buri out of a salt rock over the course of three days
BURI: ancestor of the Aesir gods, fathered Bor
BOR: married the daughter of a frost giant, Bestla, and bore three sons, Odin, Vili, and Ve. these three grew tired with the unruly jotnar and killed Ymir, causing an avalanche of blood that killed all the giants except for Bergelmir and his wife
BERGELMIR: the ancestor of all "new" giants, resettled his race in Jotunheim
clan Aesir
ODIN: god of poetry, wisdom, war, and magic. Odin crowned himself king of the gods as he was the first one to decide to kill Ymir. he allowed himself to be hung from Yggdrasil for nine days and nine nights in order to understand the secrets of the runes and sacrificed one of his eyes in order to see the cosmos more clearly. some stories claim he could shape and understand Wyrd and Orlog. he had wolves named Gerki and Freki, ravens named Huminn and Muninn, and an eight legged horse named Sleipnir
FRIGG: once may have been the same goddess as Freyja, she is queen of the Aesir and goddess of beauty, love, and fertility, she was gifted with the power of foresight
BALDUR: son of Odin and Frigg, he was the pinnacle of beauty and likeability. his only weakness was mistletoe
HODR: son of Odin and Frigg, the blind god, he is tricked by Loki into shooting a mistletoe arrow, which kills Baldur
VALI: in some stories he's the son of Odin and the jotun Rindr, in others he's the son of Loki, but it makes more sense for him to be a son of Loki so let's just go with this. conceived to avenge his brother Baldur, which he did by killing Hodr and binding Loki with the entrails of Narfi
VIDAR: son of Odin and the jotun Gríðr, he is the god of vengeance, and is fortold to avenge his father by killing the wolf Fenrir at Ragnarok
HEIMDALL: son of Odin and "The Nine Mothers" (nine sea giants), god of keen eyesight and hearing, sometimes foresight. guardian of the Bifrost
TYR: son of Odin, god of war, justice, and order, he lost one of his arms to the wolf Fenrir
BRAGI: son of Odin, god of poetry
IDUNN: wife of Bragi, goddess of youth and fertility, her apples rejuvenated the Aesir gods and reversed the effects of aging
JORÐ: personification of the earth, consort of Odin, sometimes considered to be a jotun
THOR: son of Odin and the goddess Jörð, he is the god of lightning, storms, strength, fertility, and the protector of humankind. he wields the hammer Mjolnir
SIF: Thor's wife, goddess of faith, family and fertility
THRUD: daughter of Thor and Sif, goddess of strength
MAGNI: son of Thor and the jotun Járnsaxa, god of wrath
MODI: son of Thor, god of might
MIMIR: god of knowledge and wisdom, in some stories he is the advisor of Odin. he is sent either as a peace maker or hostage to the Vanir, where he is decapitated. Odin preserved his head and keeps it to guard a well on one of the roots of Yggdrasil
LOKI: god of mischief, wealth, and chaos. his children often caused trouble for other gods, Fenrir being the great wolf of Ragnarok, Jormungandr being the arch enemy of Thor, and Hel, who ruled Helheim
HEL: daughter of Loki and the jotun Angrboda, goddess of the underworld, she was tasked with taking care of the souls that ended up in her realm (since some ended up in Odin's Valhalla and some ended up in Freyja's Folkvangr)
NARFI: son of Loki and the goddess Sigyn, killed by Vali
clan Vanir
NJORD: patriarch of clan Vanir, god of wind, water, and fortune, he was the patron of fishermen and sailors
NERTHUS/NJORUN: although possibly just a female aspect of Njord, some theorize this is actually the sister-wife of Njord, mother of Freyja and Freyr. goddess of peace and prosperity
FREYR: son of Njord, god of peace, prosperity, male virility, and fair weather, ruler of Alfheim. after the conclusion of the Aesir-Vanir war, he was brought to Asgard as a hostage where he climbed his way up the ranks with charm and a good personality
FREYJA: daughter of Njord, goddess of love, beauty, fertility, and blessings. she is said to have introduced the gods to a form of magic called seidr, which was a form of seeing or changing the future
ODR: husband of Freyja, god of madness, wit and poetry. could also be an aspect of Odin, as they bear good similarities
HNOSS: daughter of Freyja and her husband Odr, her name means "gem"
GERSEMI: daughter of Freyja and Odr, her name means "treasure"
the goddesses of destiny, the Norns,
URD: "fate"
SKULD: "being"
VERANDI: "necessity"

Underrated pagan/witch tip!
This tip is very much for honoring nature or nature/earth deities such as Gaia, Jorð etc.
Take a walk to appreciate nature and pick up trash! Mother earth is full of trash by ungrateful people that don't care about keeping our nature clean. It doesn't matter if it is a park, the streets, forest, mountains, beach, Mother earth is everywhere and she will see what a great job you do. It's a perfect, closet friendly, budget friendly way anyone can honor their nature deity or our earth.

Had an awesome day working with @curiousjean and @brennahcavanaugh at @crossinghedgerowssanctuary. The first shot or two is my daughter saying hi to the chickens. Then, we got the sunchokes cut down, cleaned up, and put in the compost. One of the best tools to have on a farm, alongside good, solid boots, gloves,.clothes, and a Leatherman, is a machete. Made good work of the sunchokes! Then, Brennah was awesome and harvested greens and Jean gifted us some of her delicious harvested tomatoes. A good, wet work day. Hail Jorð! Hail Freyr! Hail Gerða! Hail to the Ancestors! Hail to the landvaettir! #HeathenVisibility #Heathen #landvaettir #landvættir #Freyr #Frey #Gerda #Gerða #Jorð #Jord #Ancestors #polytheism #polytheist #animism #animist https://www.instagram.com/p/B3L55adnhps/?igshid=jix9ia8xi4rc

Finished reading this a couple weeks ago. The author makes an interesting and compelling case that Frigg is one name for an earth goddess that was worshipped from at least around the first century CE all the way up to the Viking Age. Connecting her to other goddesses such as Nerthus and Jorð. It was a good read even if you're not convinced in the end. It's well researched and referenced. #pagansofinstagram #pagan #heathensofinstagram #heathen #norsepagan #norsegoddess #frigg #jorð #nerthus https://www.instagram.com/p/CN089_LniRa/?igshid=1lr89dkyr7l48

Apologies, @master-leah-sakurai, Hyrr felt the urge to fight them. Vindr always liked a challenge, and Lauf wanted to get involved too. Luckily Jorð restrained them.
Also, your art work is marvelous. I'm most fond in your Human Spinel AU Story.

Just 2 Gay Girls Cosplaying 2 Gay Guys :P but for real, everytime I see Beta Lumity remindes me of BakuDeku,
Deku is sweet and yet brave to protect his friends (Like Luz) and Bakugou is short temper and yells alot and it’s a bit Tsundere (just like Amity) so that’s why I drew them dressed as Deku and Bakugou :3
tho I love both ships so yeah ^^;

Heathen Prayer to Jord in BOS
Translated from an unnamed prayer on http://theasatrucommunity.blogspot.com/p/prayers.html.
Original:
Hail Jord, Mother of All! May your fields increase and flourish, your forests grow and spread and your waters run pure and free. Accept my offering, great mother Jord, bring forth that which is good, and sustaining, for every living thing. Skoll!
Bastardized Old Norse version:
Helsr Jorðr, móðir af allr! Mega þin akrs aikr ok blémstrr,  þin skógrs grér ok breiðr, ok þin vatns rinr hrein ok frjáls. Þiggja min fórn, stór móðir Jorð ferr áfram  þat sem er góðr, ok viðhaldand, firir hver lifand hlutrr. Skál!

Hi 💙 My practice is heavily influenced by Norse and Scandinavian folk traditions. I work close with Viðarr (Patron god), Fjorgyn/Jorð (Patron goddess) and Lofn (Emotional guide). I divinate a lot using my Older Fuðark Hasel runes most of the time, but I also use the Viking Oracle deck and Tarot deck. Most of my magic is in the form of bind runes and incantations, and I celebrate some Nordic, ancient and newer, holidays. I also work a lot with winter related items and correspondences 💙🦊❄

New Post has been published on The Maier Files
New Post has been published on http://the.maier-files.com/the-goddess-saga/
The goddess Saga
In the Maier files puzzle and quest everything adds up to something and there are several intertwined layers that will eventually result in solving the Otto Maier enigma. One clue and deeper meaning can maybe be found in the history of Saga.
Saga is one of the Norse goddesses who are numbered among the Asynjur. Snorri (Gylfaginning, ch. 35) lists her as the second goddess and states that she lives in a great dwelling called Sokkvabekk. In the Grímnismál we learn that Sokkvabekk is the fourth hall in Asgard, surrounded by cool waves, and that every day Odin and Saga drink there gladly together from cups of gold.
Although we are not told many details about Saga, there is still much that can be inferred from the sparse information available. Her name, while technically not the same word as the feminine Icelandic noun saga, undoubtedly comes from the same root, segja, meaning “to say or tell.” The Old Norse word saga means “story,” “tale,” or “history,” and in modern German and English it still means “legend” or “myth.” More specifically, we use it to refer to heroic narratives written in the twelfth or thirteenth centuries that chronicle the feats of historical or legendary figures in Scandinavian culture or modern narratives written in the same style.
A saga is more than mere history—it blends fact with legend, narrative with poetry. The pre-Christian Norse made no distinction between factual, historical works and fictional, literary ones. Instead, people sought to record all aspects of reality, combining factual, artistic, and spiritual truths into an organic whole. They had no concept of fiction but regarded all tales as true on a certain level. To them, legends were as real as documented occurrences, and therefore they did not distinguish between the two in their sagas. A saga records the history of a people’s soul rather than mere events and thus is a link between the ancestors and the present and future generations.
The goddess Saga, then, can be seen as a personification of these stories, and indeed she is not the only feminine figure to be used to personify a legend. The Greek muse Klio personified history, although what Saga represents would probably encompass several of the muses’ functions. In Germany, when people took turns telling stories, they said the Märlein went around from house to house. This game of passing around the telling of myths or fables was also practiced by the ancient Greeks and Romans. In Norway parents still tell their children eventyr (“fairy tales,” from the ON ævintyr and related to the English adventure).
The poets of the thirteenth century captured the spirit of adventure in their verse. In their Frau Aventiure tales, Dame Aventiure wandered the countryside on foot, knocking at the doors of the minstrels and demanding that they let her in. Peter Suchenwirt, late-fourteenth-century Austrian poet, describes a vision of Dame Aventiure. In it, she appears in a forest grove and says she has traveled throughout the land, visiting kings and lords as Frau Ehre’s messenger, and now has come to make her report. Then, putting a gold ring on her finger, she disappears. Ehre is the German word meaning “honor,” “reputation,” or “glory,” and, like Saga, it is a feminine noun. Frau Ehre can be compared to Frigg, the queen of Heaven, who functions as a dispenser of glory much as an earthly queen would and who, as Lady of the Asynjur, is Saga’s leader. Also, spinning and storytelling, the special functions of these two goddesses, have long been connected in the lore of the dísir and wisewomen of Germanic culture.
Saga has often been compared to Frigg, many seeing her as merely another name or guise for Frigg herself and not a separate goddess at all. Some sources claim that Saga is Frigg because Odin, Frigg’s husband, drinks with Saga daily in her hall. Given Odin’s reputation with women, I find this reasoning less than persuasive. But what is the relationship between Odin and Saga? Odin, in his function as poet and giver of divine inspiration, represents here all writers and poets who must return to the primal legends and the collective soul of their people to derive that inspiration that is the mark of truly great poetry.
Vague as the mythical references to Saga are, she has managed to leave an impression on the modern Norse mind, as shown by a line from the Norwegian national anthem, “Ja, vi elsker dette landet” (“Yes, we love this land”):
Og den saganatt som senker, drømmer på vår jorð. (And the night of Saga sinking dreams upon our land.)
Granted, they may have been thinking of saga, the tale, rather than Saga the goddess, but the images of sinking and dreams are highly reminiscent of Saga’s realm of memories, the Sinking Brook.
Viewed symbolically, Saga’s hall represents the stream of the unconscious, a typical meaning assigned to water in both myth and psychology. Again, Saga’s dwelling is the source of our inspiration, our songs and stories that ring true and have the seeds of greatness in them. Odin, wise as always, knows he needs to periodically drink from this well of collective memory to refuel his energies. In return, the father of heroic deeds supports, favors, and protects history and the past, and through the poet’s song remembers and glorifies it. The cup from which they drink is both the cup of poetic inspiration and the cup of immortality.
The waters of Saga’s hall can also represent the Well of Urd, where the spiritual might of the past resides. The Germanic concept of time is dominated by the past, which is seen as an ever-growing accumulation of experience that shapes and nurtures the present and into which all actions are constantly being interwoven.

Chapter 15: Captured
As the rain started to pour the six septaplets find themselves walking on mud and dirt still following the road. "We need shelter" said Hyrr "We need to find something, and fast!" Jorð continued. They then started to move a little bit faster. As they are traveling on foot, Vant had his hands spread above his head. Preventing the rain from making any direct contact towards them.
Vant is starting to show signs that he's getting tired.
Jorð noticed Vant's condition. "That's it!" he reacted. All of them stopped when they heard Jorð and then he lowered his hands to his sides and then raising them up in a half arch motion to create an earth dome around them, Shielding from the rain. Hyrr lit a fire on his hand for light since the dome was pitch black.
Taking a breather on the wet, soggy, muddy ground, Vant is now able to rest until the weather has lighten up. He lied his head on Ljos' shoulder to rest.
"Do you think that Kára was certain of where to find it?" Asked Vindr. "I don't know... I still don't trust that large woman she brought" Þrymja replied. "Whatever the case, she believed that woman's words anyway." said Ljos. "Just what kind of person was she?" "If I was able to control my flames, then I would've burnt her into ashes!" Said Hyrr as he slightly increased the flame from his hand. "Whoa whoa whoa! Be careful." Reacted Vindr.
Hyrr apologetically said, "Sorry." decreasing the flame.
As they all sat and wait for the rain to pass overtime, one after the other fell asleep. When it was Þrymja's turn to dose over and after a few moments, he was awoken by Quogh.
He woke up Þrymja to tell him that something is coming. Þrymja sat up from the ground as he gets himself awake again from a few minutes of sleep. When he's fully awake he found themselves on a plains field surrounded by a heavy mist.
So heavy that their farthest vision is 3 meters(9ft 'cause english measure users are lazy) Þrymja's instincts senses something is coming. He told Quogh to watch each other's sixes for self defence. Quogh doesn't know why but due to the environment they woke up in, he had to trust the only person he knows with him.
And then out of nowhere, a strange shaped mist rush towards Þrymja's face. Nothing happened after that. Though it was too quick to know what it was, but it shaped like a mask. They didn't have enough time to process what happened because large claws appeared and snatched Quogh into the mist. He got annoyed that he started going on a lightning rampage. He kept throwing and slashing his blades around until he got tired.
Still frustrated, Þrymja started hearing voices. "Get back..." it whispered. "... Return...Control..." As soon as it said that, Þrymja heard sparks and then the wisper repeats. Turns out it's coming from his hands. It's producing little flash bolts of red lightning as it makes the sound.
The bolts spark faster until a larger red lightning bolt struck Þrymja and then he woke up. Finding himself and the other 5 Septaplets laying outside of the earth dome, under the chaotic rain storm. He panicked and started to get up. But before he did, a large blue lighting struck in front of him and the siblings.
"Well well well, no use of running anymore ay?"
What came out was the demigods Magni and Móði.
Þrymja didn't hesitate to lash out his lightning blades and slash Magni. When he lunched his attack, Magni blocked it with his bare arm. Þrymja's blades have no effect against Magni.
He could at least try so the others could get a direct hit while he was distracted. So then Magni pushed Þrymja back. He fell down hard from gravity.
Vindr wanted to help but he was too weak to move from what happened inside the dome. Móði reached his hand towards the unconscious Vindr, but then he noticed a puff of light smoke flowing pass his face. Hyrr use his fire ball to protect Vindr, but the rain was so heavy that it extinguished the fire, mere seconds before reaching towards Móði.
Jorð didn't back down though, he created an earth wall to protect Vant and Ljos from Magni. He then created gauntlets made out of stone to fight Magni hand in hand. "Hahaha!" Magni laughed in amusement "This'll be fun!" He dropped his weapon and they both charged at each other.
Meanwhile, Hyrr stood up with his trembling legs. His stands is unstable. Móði charged on in and tackled him to the ground. Without hesitation, Þrymja slashed Móði from his back, but his attacks are still useless. "Have you learned nothing, boy?!" said Móði. He then swings his club and knocks over Þrymja. He layed down on the ground as Móði picks up Hyrr by the tunic and headbutts him making him unconscious. He dropped Hyrr and walked up to Þrymja.
Jorð fell to the ground cause he can't beat Magni. He noticed Þrymja is at a complete disadvantage. Just when Magni came on closer and Móði just about to swing his club, Jorð slammed his fist on the ground that cause an earth pillar to launch Þrymja up in the air in order to escape. "Ooohhhh... You've made a big mistake." said Magni as he lifted Jorð. When he did, the rain had finally passed over them. Leaving the five septaplets on the ground, covered in mud, dirt and some with bruises.
"Let's take them to gramps," said Móði "our just reward awaits." they then gathered the five while Þrymja will be landing around the middle of the land. Jorð launched him into the air, unknowingly where his destination will be. Luckily, he crashed at Lauf's location.
He's been unconscious around 8 hours since he arrived. Lauf is just sitting by Þrymja with Myer on the opposite side on the hammocks.
Zuri placed her hand on Lauf's shoulder to get his attention. "Lauf" she said calmly "What did you do to upset the gods?"

Runa’s magickal name reading to those who reblog 16th-20th
what is a magickal name? does everyone have one?
a magickal name is a name used in witchcraft that reflects the owner’s true self. often when found, the name feels ‘out of reach’ and i know that when i found mine i didn’t feel i was worthy of it.
not everyone desires a magickal name and that’s absolutely fine!!
how does the reading work?
i review the answers to the questions i will ask and from the answers i will aim to either sense a name or a meaning of a name.
finding your magickal name takes time and often there are personal goals that you must reflect and work on before reaching a point where the universe can start giving you hints!
if a name i give doesn’t resonate then in all honesty it probably isn’t right! i am doing this to get practice so please, be patient.
questions (can answer in reblog or PM me):
1. what are your preferred pronouns?
2. do you identify as a certain type of witch? which paths do you resonate with most?
3. do you have any deities? if yes, who?
4. what are some traits that you are most proud of?
5. what are some traits that you are not so proud of?
6. what do you value most in relationships (romantic, familial, friendship)?
7. would you say that you have a strong and clear sense of self?
8. what about you do you think is holding you back in life?
PLEASE let me know if it does/ doesn’t resonate with you! feedback is so helpful :)
