I only read this fic (posted over a decade ago) last year, and I loved it the minute I did. It takes place at Hogwarts, where after unexpectedly leaving the Aurors, Harry joins the staff as Defence Professor. This Draco's older, established and successful in his own position, and thoroughly unimpressed with Harry's attitude to the job. There's more to it all than meets the eye, naturally, which Draco discovers as they spend time together over the course of the fic. That they fall in love feels inevitable; these two lonely professors were meant to be together from the first scene of the fic, but watching them realise it too, and admit it to themselves and one another is done so skilfully here, and their developing relationship feels all at once new and exciting, and refreshingly mature.

My December Reads

‘Tis the season! 2024 flew by and was brutal to many of us, but the merry spirits are growing on me now that my favorite month has begun. I get a lot of my December magic out of the reading list I prepare in advance (check my 2023 list here) so I thought I’d share this in case anyone’s looking for something similar. This year I’ve reflected a lot, among other themes, about how to age gracefully and find courage to face our demons and take the unknown road (such a big Drarry reference, tysm Turn) so I was looking for healing, contemplative vibes. Some of these I revisit religiously every year, others are new additions based on recent reads and cravings. starting the list with a lie, because this isn’t a single fic; it’s 8. But when i reread this, i reread the entire series in order so i gotta give you the whole thing. quite simply: arthur & eames gradually make a home together. i adore the pace of this, the way they slowly peel back the barriers they’ve erected within themselves and between them. as it’s by gyzym, it’s also VERY funny. pre- and post-canon, 75k, rated E.

eames is an author, arthur is an editor, eames insists that he needs to take a trip for his process and drags arthur along with him. i love how in-character these roles are for them. AU, 8.5k, rated E.

after saving arthur’s life, eames realizes that arthur has fallen for him. which is very inconvenient because eames is not capable of love.  naturally, he is up-front about it and then spends the next few years breaking into arthur’s home and generally making a nuisance of himself. totally natural way to act around the man you definitely aren’t into. post-canon, 8.6k, rated E.
