there's a lot of talk about joint pain in chronic illness communities which like fair, it hurts like a bitch. but shoutout to my fellow spoonies who are painfully incapacitated by things like muscle spasticity and nerve compression. just because people can't see red, swollen, dislocated, or malformed joints doesn't make your pain not real. and extra shoutout to spoonies who deal with all these types of pain, because i know how hard it makes things.

Ive hit 4K and taking a break to eat. Have another Vik x reader smut snippet while I wait for more coffee to brew (its only midnight). On that 2nd cup and my drink isn't the only thing getting steamy.
Part 3 is already being outlined and I'm thinking Heimerdinger's lab or Hoskels house 🤭
Part 1 Here
“In.” His thumb started to stroke between my shoulder blades as his breath fanned the side of my face, voice a low thrum in my ear. My breath hitched as I felt myself gravitate toward him, eyeing him from the corners of my vision. My heart starting to make its nervous ascent up my throat again. “What?” “It’s incautious.” His corrected with a self-satisfied smile, delighting in my surprise as his hand shifted up to thumb at the cord wrapping around my neck to hold up the front of my dress. He played with it, running the finger along the stack, his hand resting at the base of my neck. Holding me gently as he guided me away from the increasingly crowded table, deliberately closing any lingering distance between us as our sides came together. “How do you say…” We were so close he only needed to murmur, “The student becomes the master.” A rush of heat coursed through me, breath hitching in my throat. The cord around my neck felt suddenly too tight, and I weakly pulled with it in search of relief. His thumb slid under the cords in response, relieving some of the pressure from the back. Simultaneously, pulling them into my throat, the contrast made my insides twist and flutter. Did he know just what he was doing? “Viktor—"

the draw of pseudoscientific medical practices is really interesting to me cause like...i kinda get it. these con men tend to prey on like...intuition? they peddle things that sound like they COULD make sense, on some "common sense" level, and then get you hooked in before letting loose the truly bonkers stuff.
like, chiropractic for example.
"the central nervous system is located in the spine." yes.
"everything in your body eventually leads back to that system." also yes. go on.
"problems in your spine (bulging disks, pinched nerves, etc) can have pretty big impacts elsewhere in the body." yep, good, with you still.
"so i will now fiddle around with that with no proven method or safety precautions and cure everything from halitosis to cancer. also i learned this from ghosts or something." now hang on i think we need to check ur calculations on that one, chief.

It is interesting how much math comes into even the most basic of like. Making things. Making almost anything. And often not numbers necessarily but proportions and geometry. I think all the time about how castles were built with geometry at the heart of it. And I use the same kind of proportional math to make socks fit. And none of my pieces are ever knit with a prime number of stitches--because you use factors to make neat colorwork and ribbing and different stitches. Idk ! I remember constantly thinking 'how the hell is THIS gonna come in useful ?' But it always does. Math is at the heart of everything, and knowing how to apply it is a tool of critical importance to Thinking Up A Shape And Making It.

hey roach, no answer needed, but i'd value your perspective. i was talking to a friend about gender, and we got stuck. he said that statistically men are more common in certain manual jobs due to physiological differences - differences that are important to acknowledge in the effort towards true equality. i said that men and women are more alike than not, and if we focus on the differences that's all we see. is there anything you'd add to this? i respect your opinion, is all. have a lovely day!
men are more common in certain manual jobs largely due to HISTORICAL AND PRESENT DAY DISCRIMINATION AND RAMPANT UNCHECKED SEXUAL ABUSE OF THE WOMEN THAT DO SHOW UP.
like, yes, there's certainly a lot of women's jobs that don't involve manual labor, and arguably a lot of women work jobs that don't involve manual labor. but like so do finance jobs, programming, engineering, trucking, data entry, being a fucking CEO? which are male dominated, but are mostly done sitting down.
there's a lot of jobs thought of as feminine, like nursing and waitressing, that involve hauling ass all fucking day, and this is not thought of as hard manual labor, because women do them. similarly, keeping house? cooking, cleaning, caring for children, getting groceries, running errands: these are not sedentary tasks for weak little ladies. this is exercise.
it's like the low pay. women don't take low paying jobs. women are paid less than men, regardless of the job they take. women don't take 'easy' jobs that 'aren't physical'. they're considered to have easy, non-physical jobs because they are seen as weak.
i gained a lot of weight and muscle going into welding, because HRT made it faster and easier for me to get the benefit of the strength training i was deliberately putting myself through. if i had stayed a girl, i would still have become just as strong. it would simply have taken me longer. even now, five or six years in, i don't have the skeletal build for pronounced upper body strength, but i have the ass of a dump truck, and the thighs of two more dump trucks. i can lift whatever i need as long as i can use core strength to heft it, no manly biceps necessary. there's no reason i couldn't be doing the same thing as a woman. one of my friends who is a nurse hauls people around all day and they can pick ME up without trying and they've never done T at all.
tl;dr: women are seen as weak and therefore their jobs are seen as easy. neither perception is actually true.

For those of you who saw the last post, this is who's responsible for Fuji's illness.
Kageguchiomi was Lower Moon 3 around the early 1700s, with the appearance of a dull but well dressed wooden doll with an uchiwa and tenugui wrap. In life he was a gossiping servant, often spreading rumours among the other servants of the house he served to entertain himself as he tended the gardens, which ultimately led to his execution. His blood demon art is a fine mist of his own blood, fanned through the air like a pathogen, relaxing the muscles (including the heart). He is also able to use his words to disorient opponents who breathe in the mist, namely through convincing them of barriers or targets that don't actually exist.
Fuji had first caught his "illness" in early childhood, carrying its symptoms through his life. Since it was not a true illness, the best solution he could get was staying bundled indoors, away from strenuous work, with wisteria incense flooding the room. The only true cure was to kill Kage, which he would do later once he'd grown and trained.
I made a sketch in class with Fuji and Kage, here's the cleaner digital revision:
