Oil is Thicker Then Blood (Part 77)
Khan was looking over a blueprint of the bunker, taking note of every empty hallway, abandoned room, and silent space.
There used to be so many more of them, a population over several thousand strong, living on the surface, it fell a bit when they retreated into the bunker, people locked outside when the doors shut for the first time, but there were still so many of them.
And yet… their population had fallen and had kept falling, a joint effort from the disassembly drones hunting and a falling birthrate, nobody wanted to have kids with a looming threat over their heads, and despite the bunker being safe, there were reasons people would go outside, the bunker ran on solar power, and those were outside… you do the math.
That was something they didn't have to worry about anymore, but now there was so much space that was left unused that he didn't know what to do with. A part of him wanting to keep these places accessible… in hopes that eventually the bunker would be full again. But another wanted to make use of the extra material, perhaps to reinforce the sections that were being used.
He was interrupted by a loud and urgent knock, pulling his head out of the sprawling blueprint with a jump. He sighed as he took a final sip of coolant before stretching, every gasket in his spine decompressing with a loud hiss.
He left his home office and made his way to the door. Expecting another visit from Dale, that man was exceptionally not happy with N and V moving into the bunker, and had been complaining to Khan ever since he'd found out about it.
He understood his qualms, Dale had lost his entire family to them over the years, it was why he dedicated the rest of his life to the protection of the bunker from the outside. But since day one, the man had been extreme.
Dale suggested that they booby trap the first door so that any drone that tried to get in would be summarily lit on fire, and it took too much convincing from both himself and Hal on why that would be equally dangerous to anyone needing to do maintenance on the doors or the solar panels.
Dale then moved on to outright demanding that they send an armed force to attack the disassembly drone “nest” (his words, not Khan’s.) head on.
Hal about strangled Dale for that, “We've lost enough people! Are you outta ya mind?!” He screamed, pressing him up against a wall, gripping Dale's shirt.
Hal had chilled out quite a bit in age, but when younger he had a little bit of temper problem.
He opened the door not to find Dale wanting to go on another drunken tirade, but his daughter, stress present on every feature of her face, his granddaughter (oh that was still exciting to say) tucked in her arms protectively, with N in behind her looking grim.
He immediately knew something was wrong.
“Uzi, N. What's the matter? Is everything okay?” His first thought was that, somehow, Uzi had lost the baby, but another minute of looking at the both of them took that thought away, they both looked more concerned then heartbroken.
“Sorry for barging in dad but… this is kinda urgent.” Uzi explained and Khan moved to the side to let them in. He noticed the way N's tail was arched around Uzi, not quite wrapping around her, but being angled in a way that he could pull her into him at a moment's notice. What has got him so on edge.
“It's not a problem. What's wrong dronelette?” Khan’s voice was as soft as he could make it, difficult due to how deep his voice was naturally, but it was an attempt all the same.
“Okay. Sit. I have a presentation for you, and I don't think you're going to like it.” Uzi led him down to sit on his own couch, a small wary smile breaking onto his face.
“I feel like that's become a pattern.” He chuckled, and for a moment she smiled back.
“For once, it's not about me.” And then the moment was over, stress lines returning as she sat Tera up next to him, his granddaughter smiling and belting “Pop Pop!” At the top of her lungs.
His core felt like it had been punched, and he immediately took her into his lap, he noticed her fangs, but said nothing, Nori had them too, it wasn't that strange.
In a moment, N had made a projector with his hand, displaying a slightly fuzzy, yellow tinted hologram onto his coffee table, his immediate thought was if N would allow him to take a look on how that functioned, but that thought was immediately taken away by Uzi's voice.
“Okay so N and I were outside, uh -” She didn't want to freak her father out by telling him about the nest N made, so she stammered slightly. “-Scavenging, for old times sake, when he found this.”
The blank hologram fizzled into the figure of a drone, limping and acting erratic, strange tendrils snaking up it's back, before it's head came off, and a thick black appendage was released from it's cavity.
Khan’s eyelights went hollow immediately, equal parts disgusted and horrified. What the hell was that?
“Before you ask, no, that's not the worst part.” Uzi seemed to read his mind as the hologram fizzled again, this time into a fairly accurate model of Copper-9 itself.
“This, is the worst part.”
A huge hole opened up on the side of the holographic planet, exposing the nonexistent core, tendrils snaked out of it before it fizzled into a closer, more detailed view of flesh and bone from the ground and slightly above.
Yeah, that was way worse.
“This… thing. Opened up not too far from here, N and V already scouted it, it's too big to burn, and any explosive would put the rest of the planet at risk.” His eyes turned to his daughter, her body language erratic, her tail was free without her notice, twitching like it was irritated. Despite her composed speech, she was on the verge of falling apart.
“We need to evacuate the planet, a-all of us, because this thing is spreading, and if you touch it it turns you into that.” The hologram switched back to the drone with the tentacle for a head.
“And you are literally the only drone I know who everyone would actually listen to if you told them to. So…”
Khan was speechless for a moment, all the information bouncing around in his head like an arrant pinball. Eyelights frozen hollow and his mouth agape.
She wasn't wrong, that hole looked like it went straight to the center of the planet, and if that was the case, more holes would surely follow, like a worldwide sinkhole.
But.. leaving the planet?
He had respect sure, and he was certain he could at least get all of his team of engineers in board, they were all itching for a challenge. But he knew getting everyone on board wouldn't be easy…
“That's a lot to ask… even for me.” He finally found some words, even as they came out choked. “This is our home Uzi, we don't know anything else.”
He was including himself, logically, she was absolutely correct, evacuation was the best course of action. But he'd been built here, built, worked, loved, lived an entire lifetime on this planet. And leaving it - that was scary.
“Dad, if we don't leave we're all going to die. There's no… hiding from this. There won't be a planet to call home anymore.” Uzi stepped towards him, almost pleading.
“I-I don't know, m-maybe if we vacuum seal the doors-” He stammered, looking for another solution, a familiar one instead of one so bathed in uncertainty.
“Please Dad, just trust me!”
And suddenly he was back in that dreadful moment, Uzi panicking, bladed wing impaled through her shoulder, pleading with him to just point and shoot and to trust her. Where his body was trembling watching that murder drone - N, drool all over the floor in prep for his next meal.
His greatest regret. And a chance to redeem himself.
He looked down at his granddaughter, all smiles, looking up at him with such wide eyes, eyes that reminded him so much of his little girl… that was now pleading for him once more.
He'd listen this time.
“I-I, Okay. We'll try.”

some peter head-cannons because this fandom neglects the poor boy
he/they (prefers they but dosnt want to inconvenience others by saying that so only really the other marauders use they)
short but not the shortest (is like an inch or a couple cm for you not americans taller than sirius and loves to talk about it)
is aroace but doesn’t realize it until like the middle of sixth year, and because he doesn’t realize it for a while dates and sleeps with so so many people. like you could point to a random student in the great hall at dinner that was about their age and they would probably be peter’s ex of some kind
loves cheese. loved cheese before they became animagi. when they were working on that james and sirius would joke that peter would be a mouse or a rat because of how much they likes cheese
is like besties with cat form mcgonnagal. he doesn’t know it’s her but she knows it’s him and they sometimes will hangout and run around the hallways. they bond over their love of cheese.
because he’s besties with mcgonnacat, he never had any problems with pet cats and strays bc minerva told them pete’s a friend. (also helps that they steal cheese for them from the kitchen)
is actually pretty good at school but his B+s and A-s aren’t that noticeable next to james and remus’s consistent As and A+s (or whatever the equivalent would be at hogwarts)
a god at chess
is a really good singer but only ever sings in front of the other marauders (once he drunkenly did karaoke with mary and she asked for his autograph after(jokingly ofc but still))
got a muggle driving license bc he thought that would be helpful. bc of this he was the designated alcohol getter on their cornwall ‘77 trip (atyds is canon shhh)
also always the designated snack getter from the kitchen when they’re doing anything
always has ibuprofen or some kind of pain relief potion in his pocket/bag bc remus is always in some form of pain from his furry little problem, james is always sore from quidditch and sirius gets migraines. mary also gets really bad cramps and never complains but peter can tell when she’s in pain. he himself has chronic joint pain but never takes the medicine because what if his friends need it?
also always has extra cigarettes and a lighter in his bag even though he dosnt smoke
he also always has an extra tampon and pad
when hes drunk he can’t transform to or from his rat form. so if hes drunk and a rat at the time, hes kinda stuck at a rat, at least until he sobers up a bit
can play guitar and the drums and a little bit of piano
loves quidditch and watching quidditch and the idea of playing quidditch but in reality is a bit afraid of heights (though in james’s backyard where the goal posts aren’t to high, he’s an amazing keeper)
will probably reblog with others as i think of them!

I'm so scared because it's my 8th house profection year (20 years), my Pluto and vertex are there...
Could you talk more about the profection year of each house and what we can expect?
Annual profections are a traditional astrological technique used to predict themes and experiences that may be prominent in a particular year of your life. The concept is simple: each year of your life corresponds to a different house in your natal chart, and the affairs of that house take center stage during that year.
The house that is activated is called the "Profection House," and the planet ruling that house, called the "Time Lord," is considered especially significant during that year. The activated house and its ruler provide clues about the areas of life that will be particularly active, challenging, or rewarding.
1st House Profection Year (Ages 0, 12, 24, 36, 48, 60, 72, 84, etc.)
- Themes: Self-identity, personal growth, health, appearance, and overall vitality.
- Expectations: This year emphasizes your relationship with yourself. It's a time for self-discovery, redefining your identity, and focusing on your physical body and personal goals. You might feel more motivated to take control of your life and make decisions that reflect who you truly are.
2nd House Profection Year (Ages 1, 13, 25, 37, 49, 61, 73, 85, etc.)
- Themes: Finances, personal values, material possessions, self-worth.
- Expectations: This year centers around your resources and what you value. Financial matters come to the forefront, as well as questions about what makes you feel secure. You may focus on earning, saving, or re-evaluating your material and emotional security.
3rd House Profection Year (Ages 2, 14, 26, 38, 50, 62, 74, 86, etc.)
- Themes: Communication, learning, siblings, neighbors, short trips.
- Expectations: Expect increased activity in your immediate environment. This year is often marked by a desire to learn new skills, engage in more communication, or connect with siblings and neighbors. Writing, teaching, or learning could become prominent.
4th House Profection Year (Ages 3, 15, 27, 39, 51, 63, 75, 87, etc.)
- Themes: Home, family, roots, emotional foundations.
- Expectations: Focus shifts to your home life and family matters. You might move, renovate, or explore your ancestry. Emotional security and your relationship with your family take precedence. This is also a year to establish a strong foundation for the future.
5th House Profection Year (Ages 4, 16, 28, 40, 52, 64, 76, 88, etc.)
- Themes: Creativity, romance, children, pleasure.
- Expectations: Creativity and self-expression are highlighted. This could manifest as artistic pursuits, romantic relationships, or activities that bring you joy. Children, whether your own or others, may also play a significant role this year.
6th House Profection Year (Ages 5, 17, 29, 41, 53, 65, 77, 89, etc.)
- Themes: Health, work, daily routines, service.
- Expectations: Health and daily routines come into focus. You might adopt new habits, address health issues, or find yourself focusing more on work and service. This is a year for refining your routine and improving your day-to-day life.
7th House Profection Year (Ages 6, 18, 30, 42, 54, 66, 78, 90, etc.)
- Themes: Partnerships, marriage, one-on-one relationships, contracts.
- Expectations: Relationships take center stage. This could be a year of marriage, forming new partnerships, or renegotiating existing ones. It's a time to focus on how you relate to others and the dynamics of your significant relationships.
8th House Profection Year (Ages 7, 19, 31, 43, 55, 67, 79, 91, etc.)
- Themes: Shared resources, transformation, death, taxes, intimacy.
- Expectations:Matters involving shared resources, such as joint finances or investments, are prominent. This year may also bring a focus on deep psychological transformation, confronting fears, or dealing with endings and rebirths.
9th House Profection Year (Ages 8, 20, 32, 44, 56, 68, 80, 92, etc.)
- Themes: Travel, higher education, philosophy, belief systems.
- Expectations: This year is about expanding your horizons, whether through travel, education, or exploring new philosophies. You may be drawn to new ideas, spiritual pursuits, or cultural experiences that broaden your understanding of the world.
10th House Profection Year (Ages 9, 21, 33, 45, 57, 69, 81, 93, etc.)
- Themes: Career, public image, authority, long-term goals.
- Expectations: Your career and public life come into focus. This year often brings changes or advancements in your professional life. You might gain recognition, take on more responsibility, or work towards long-term goals that define your legacy.
11th House Profection Year (Ages 10, 22, 34, 46, 58, 70, 82, 94, etc.)
- Themes: Friendships, groups, aspirations, social networks.
- Social connections and friendships are highlighted. You might become more involved in groups or organizations, or work towards goals with others. This is also a time to focus on your hopes and aspirations, often within a community context.
12th House Profection Year (Ages 11, 23, 35, 47, 59, 71, 83, 95, etc.)
- Themes: Solitude, spiritual growth, endings, hidden matters.
- Expectations: This is a year of introspection and possibly retreat. You may feel the need to withdraw and focus on your inner world. It's a time for spiritual growth, healing, and dealing with subconscious or hidden issues. Often, this year can also bring closure to certain chapters in your life.
After determining which house is activated, identify the ruling planet of that house in your natal chart. The condition and aspects of this planet will offer further insight into what the year might bring. Look at how current planetary transits are affecting the activated house and the Time Lord. This will add more depth to your understanding of the year's themes.Reviewing previous years when the same house was activated can give you a sense of recurring themes or lessons. Understanding the house profections can give you a roadmap for the year, helping you navigate challenges and make the most of opportunities aligned with the themes of your activated house.

Pain emerges as dominant symptom in long Covid, UCL study reveals - Published Aug 28, 2024
Pain may be the most prevalent and severe symptom reported by individuals with long Covid, according to a new study led by UCL (University College London) researchers.
The study, published in JRSM Open, analysed data from over 1,000 people in England and Wales who logged their symptoms on an app between November 2020 and March 2022.
Pain, including headache, joint pain and stomach pain, was the most common symptom, reported by 26.5% of participants.
The other most common symptoms were neuropsychological issues such as anxiety and depression (18.4%), fatigue (14.3%), and dyspnoea (shortness of breath) (7.4%). The analysis found that the intensity of symptoms, particularly pain, increased by 3.3% on average each month since initial registration.
The study also examined the impact of demographic factors on the severity of symptoms, revealing significant disparities among different groups. Older individuals were found to experience much higher symptom intensity, with those aged 68-77 reporting 32.8% more severe symptoms, and those aged 78-87 experiencing an 86% increase in symptom intensity compared to the 18-27 age group.
Gender differences were also pronounced, with women reporting 9.2% more intense symptoms, including pain, than men. Ethnicity further influenced symptom severity, as non-white individuals with long Covid reported 23.5% more intense symptoms, including pain, compared to white individuals.
The study also explored the relationship between education levels and symptom severity. Individuals with higher education qualifications (NVQ level 3, 4, and 5 – equivalent to A-levels or higher education) experienced significantly less severe symptoms, including pain, with reductions of 27.7%, 62.8%, and 44.7% for NVQ levels 3, 4 and 5 respectively, compared to those with lower education levels (NVQ level 1-2 – equivalent to GCSEs).
Socioeconomic status, as measured by the Index of Multiple Deprivation (IMD), also influenced symptom intensity. Participants from less deprived areas reported less intense symptoms than those from the most deprived areas. However, the number of symptoms did not significantly vary with socioeconomic status, suggesting that while deprivation may exacerbate symptom intensity, it does not necessarily lead to a broader range of symptoms.
Our study highlights pain as a predominant self-reported symptom in long Covid, but it also shows how demographic factors appear to play a significant role in symptom severity.
With ongoing occurrences of Covid-19 (e.g., LB.1, or D-FLiRT variants), the potential for more long Covid cases remains a pressing concern. Our findings can help shape targeted interventions and support strategies for those most at risk."
-Dr. David Sunkersing, Lead Author, UCL Institute of Health Informatics
In the paper, the researchers called for sustained support for long Covid clinics and the development of treatment strategies that prioritize pain management, alongside other prevalent symptoms like neuropsychological issues and fatigue.
Given the significant impact of demographic factors on symptom severity, the study underscored the need for healthcare policies that addressed these disparities, ensuring equitable care for all individuals affected by long Covid, the researchers said.
Study limitations included a lack of information on other health conditions participants may have had and a lack of information about health history. The researchers cautioned that the study may have excluded individuals with very severe Covid and those facing technological or socioeconomic barriers in accessing a smartphone app.
The study was led by the UCL Institute of Health Informatics and the Department of Primary Care and Population Health at UCL in collaboration with the software developer, Living With Ltd.

It was the dogs. The dogs are what got me.
A few years ago we visited the 9/11 Memorial Museum, and we saw a lot. Twisted steel girders. Baby-faced portraits of the deceased. Mutilated emergency vehicles.
But it was the dogs that wrecked me.
The dog exhibit is pretty small. Located in the far corner of the museum, with photographs of search and rescue dogs.
You see dogs nosing through rubble, wearing safety harnesses. You see them in their prime. They’re all deceased now. But they were spectacular.
There was Riley. Golden retriever. He was trained to find living people. But, he didn’t find any. Instead, he recovered the remains of firefighters. Riley kept searching for a live survivor, but found none. Riley’s morale tanked.
“I tried my best to tell Riley he was doing his job,” said his handler. “He had no way to know that when firefighters and police officers came over to hug him, and for a split second you can see them crack a smile—that Riley was succeeding at doing an altogether different job. He provided comfort. Or maybe he did know.”
There was Coby and Guiness. Black and yellow Labs. From California. Surfer dogs. They found dozens of human remains.
And Abigail. Golden Lab. Happy. Energetic. Committed. Big fan of bacon.
Sage. A border collie. Cheerful. Endless energy. Her first mission was searching the Pentagon wreckage after the attacks. She recovered the body of the terrorist who piloted American Airlines Flight 77.
Jenner. Black Lab. At age 9, he was one of the oldest dogs on the scene. Jenner’s handler, Ann Wichmann, remembers:
“It was 12 to 15 stories high of rubble and twisted steel. My first thought was, ‘I can't send Jenner into that…’ At one point, [Jenner] disappeared down a hole under the rubble and I was like, ‘Ugggggh!' Such a heart-stopping moment..."
Trakr. German Shepherd. Tireless worker. Worked until he couldn’t stand up anymore. Trakr found Genelle Guzman-McMillan, who was trapped for 27 hours among the debris. Genelle was as good as dead, until the cold nose poked through the mangled steel.
Apollo. German shepherd. An NYPD police dog. Coal-black muzzle. Liquid eyes. The first dog on the scene, only 15 minutes after the attacks. Apollo worked 18-hour days. Once, he was nearly killed in a fire during his search. But Apollo had been drenched in water and he was quick on his feet. No injuries.
Jake. Labrador. As a puppy, Jake was found on the side of the road in Dallas. Abandoned. Left for dead. Like trash. He had a dislocated hip and a broken leg. They made him a rescue dog.
Jake worked until his body threatened to collapse from exhaustion. After his shifts, local New York merchants saw his rescue-dog vest and treated him to free steak dinners in upscale Manhattan restaurants.
And, of course, there was Bretagne. Golden Retriever. Easygoing. Dutiful. Obsessed with food. Her owner and trainer, Denise Corliss, a firefighter from Harris County, Texas, brought Bretagne to Ground Zero while the rubble was still hot.
Bretagne went straight to work. She worked for 10 days solid. Ten agonizing days. Bretagne never quit. She napped onsite.
Denise recalls: “...There are images of Bretagne going to where she was directed to search, into the unknown, the chaotic environment. But even then, she knew who needed the comfort of a dog, and which firefighter needed to hold her close and stroke her fur.”
After 9/11, Bretagne also helped recovery efforts during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, and Ivan. She retired at age 9.
Old age finally overtook her, she had a hard time using stairs, so Denise installed an above-ground pool to keep Bretagne’s joints limber.
In retirement, Bretagne became a reading dog at a local elementary school. First graders, too shy to read aloud, would read to a white-faced, elderly retriever who looked them in the eyes and smiled.
Bretagne visited students with special needs. She visited students with autism. She visited everyone.
She suffered kidney failure at age 16. She was put to sleep on June 7, 2016, and became the last of the 9/11 rescue dogs to end her earthly career.
Bretagne hobbled into the Cypress, Texas, animal hospital, one sunny Monday, only to discover the sidewalks and hallways were lined with firefighters, first responders, and rescue workers who saluted her.
Her remains were later escorted from the hospital, draped in an American flag.
We do not deserve dogs.

It’s never too late to build something new.
Take R.L. Burnside, born in in 1926, who moved out of the Mississippi Delta and up to Holly Springs, where he lived for most of his life. He was a farmer & fisherman who learned to play guitar from his neighbor, went on to play a lot of shows and blues joints, gained some notoriety, and finally started putting out records in the 1980s, when he was around 50.
These were excellent blues records, but stay with me here, because it gets better. I’m not going to give you his whole discography, and I’m skipping over a lot of great stuff, with most of it firmly rooted in both north Mississippi and in the Delta. Original music to be sure, and very good, but also very much in the style of its place, what you might expect to hear in a blues joint.
After the release of Too Bad Jim in the early 1990s, he started getting invited to perform at music festivals around the world, increasing his popularity and access. He toured with Jon Spencer in the later 1990s (yes that’s his voice on Chicken Dog and him playing guitar on other songs) and he picked up a lot of new fans who were into the garage, punk and blues-rock scenes. Around 1997, Burnside released Sound Machine Groove, including some new versions of his earlier work, like this one:
During all that time, this old man was getting more and more into dubbing, remixing, and the newer sounds of the 90s, and only one year later—1998, when he was 71 years old—he released this album, Come On In. To me, it’s groundbreaking; he was trying out new things with the blues, with rock, with dubbing, things that just work.
You can hear a bit of how his time with Spencer influenced him (and the other way around), but the clear confidence of it is what really gets me. And he kept pushing himself, making music, and in 2004 at the age of 77, he recorded this masterpiece, A Bothered Mind.
Seriously, just go listen to it all. Here’s a sampling:
Sadly, Burnside died in 2004, never getting to keep building on that sound. But he’s an inspiration to me in how he kept trying new things and absorbing new influences for his whole life.
He took his classic sound and kept playing and inventing and experimenting, traveling the world, meeting new people, connecting different styles, and making something no one else ever had.
And it’s all so damn good.

Collection post about everything physical (will probably expand)
Rozália Raia was born in 1980, yet she seemingly stopped signs of aging in her late 20s (early 30s if you want to be rude) thanks to great genetics and conditioning.
Overall she has three tattoos; leopard prints on her right side from feet to hand (mostly to cover up the hand surgery scars, then the idea got out of hand, so to speak), abstract gothic underboob tattoo which contours her abs perfectly and a delicate lace anklet on her left ankle:
Raia's diet is extremely healthy, rich in fiber, protein and fluids. She doesn't smoke, drink alcohol nor coffee, prefers teas without caffeine such as honeybush. Drugs are absolutely out of the picture, the only additional supplement she is taking is fruit flavored collagen powder mixed daily into her water.
Her exercises are personalized, fine tuned to her limits by her: cardio, weight lifting, different kinds of martial arts and yoga, breathing exercises, stretching; this combined with her diet not only allowed her to look youthful but also to not lose anything from her abilities even in her 40s
She is 6' / 182 cm & approximately 175 lbs / 80 kg of dense bone and hardened muscle
While her physical strength isn't something to be overlooked, speed, agility where she shines the brightest. She is engineered, built for speed, quick hits, lightning strikes and endurance. She is an explosive sprinter, an terrific long distance runner: her average running speed is 14 mph / 22.5 kmh. She can work herself up to 16-18 mph / 25.7-28.9 kmh and keep this speed over extended periods of time. Her record was 25 mph / 40 kmh. (With her height and form combined, it's basically the T-1000 chasing you. She even has the blades ready)
Raia is absolutely in peak physical shape, always giving her utmost which is almost Olympic athlete / acrobat level regarding multiple events. And sometimes heavily skirting limits humanly possible. She doesn't feel her age the slightest, never slows down, can't sit still; she always has to do something with the amount of pent up energy circulating in her.
Thankfully her exposure to drugs during captivity wasn't overly excessive as the Don wanted her to be lucid during sessions, to not allow her the mercy of unconsciousness and to see her break. He didn't get to see that. The damage however is slowly creeping up on her, she is slowly developing tachycardia and ventricular tachycardia. She is aware yet she doesn't lessen the stress on her body; after all she has to die in something.
Raia had undergone multiple surgeries regarding her mauled/tortured/ruined right hand, the best surgeons, neurosurgeons managed to restore full dexterity, despite how hopeless it looked, motivated by the triple of their usual salary. It was 80% successful, she has to warm it up after every rest, needing near constant blood circulation. The worst is after waking up and in cold weather.
She has a ridiculously high tolerance to heat. Most of her workouts are done outdoors, usually 8-12 am, warming up as the weather does. Her most comfortable weather is around 95 F / 35 Celsius (can be higher) with clean air and an occasional breeze. She does just fine in tropical conditions as well.
However, she does not like the cold the slightest, meaning anything below 77 F / 25 Celsius. Her joints are stiff, harder to maintain their fluidity, flexibility which is crucial to her skillset. Therefore if her job calls her to colder climate, the price is usually the double than she would ask for a ‘jungle expedition’.
Shameless muscle group highlights:
She definitely doesn't skip leg day. Yes, she can crack a watermelon open with her thighs; tried it because the gang kept nagging her about it.

In ‘99 Simon suggested he saw one of thelonius monk’s last performances (I believe he stopped playing in 76) while he was “a kid” sneaking into a bar (so I assume a teenager/younger than drinking age, which in NY was 18 at the time, but it could have been a matter of not being classy enough for the joint).
Assuming he was ~16-17, that would make him just under 40 at the time (chronologically, idk if there’s any statement on how long he was dead either time and obviously he doesn’t age). Hank and Wanda were both nebulously under 30 (but older than 24) then afaik, hence Hank’s chickenplucker line (I just read Avengers v3 14)
That's a good point, the sliding timescale does play into this. In Uncanny Avengers #10, Eric makes a reference to sitcoms he and Simon would watch together as kids, specifically Cheers. This would roughly place Simon in his 40s now, too, although his incubation period probably means he's more in his 30s. It's a weird one, because Simon is definitely from an older era, but he's been dead so often on and off again that his actual age is a bit strange. Personally I prefer to keep Simon as someone perpetually from the 50s who just stayed dead a long time but I understand that isn't the route comics take these days and it makes Eric sort of awkward to deal with so I guess yeah, he did watch Cheers as a child.
Simon's sort of someone who simultaneously had to grow up too young and also someone who never really matured. As in, he had all those responsibilities taking over his father's company, but also had no social life and never developed interpersonal relationships or experience. It's an interesting juxtaposition, and his sense of being out of time really does go with this.
And re: Simon's incubation period, when he first comes back from the dead it's basically treated as continous. He has been dead for 13 years in and out of canon. In more modern times, I don't see this lasting anything longer than 7 years, given the Cheers reference, but it does need to be long enough for there to be some sense of whiplash and to allow for all the changes to occur in his absence in a way that feels natural. It is a real shame though because it's one of my favourite aspects of his character that gets lost; the difference between '64 and '77 is way bigger than like, '93 to 2000 or whatever. Not that there's no difference, but you know what I mean. Society progressed so much between his death and revival, and it plays very interestingly to his dynamics with the other Avengers and especially Steve, who reads as untrusting to Simon in those days following his return.

James Donaldson on Mental Health - Suicide now second leading cause of death among NCAA athletes
Photo by Pixabay on Pexels.com Key takeaways: - Suicide overtook cardiac events as second to accidents in terms of causes of death for NCAA athletes. - The rate was highest among male cross-country athletes. Suicide is now the second most common cause of death among college athletes in the United States, surpassed only by accidents, according to findings published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine. “Athletes are generally thought of as one of the healthiest populations in our society, yet the pressures of school, internal and external performance expectations, time demands, injury, athletic identity and physical fatigue can lead to depression, mental health problems and suicide,” the authors wrote. According to one of the authors, the group’s work deals largely with sports medicine, and injury and illness are “a big part of our focus.” “We’d witnessed what seemed like more reports of suicide in athletes and wanted to know if it was truly more incidents, or if more were just being reported,” Bridget Whelan, MPH, a sports medicine research scientist in the department of family medicine at the University of Washington, told Healio. Whelan and colleagues studied a database of deaths kept by the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA), which includes all deaths from any causes, to assess total deaths and death by suicide among NCAA athletes at Division I, II and III institutions. They identified athlete deaths from all causes using the NCAA Resolutions List, the Parent Heart Watch Database and prospective media searches, NCAA insurance claims and the National Center for Catastrophic Sports Injury database. The researchers identified 1,102 deaths among college athletes from 2002 to 2022, with 77% being males. Their average age was 20 years but ranged from 17 to 24 years. More than 11% of the athletes took their own lives. The authors noted that the yearly incidence rate of suicide for males increased throughout the study period (5-year incidence rate ratio = 1.32; 95% CI 1.14 to 1.53). For females, it increased from the 2010-2011 school year onward. This was in sharp contrast to the incidence rate of deaths due to causes such as accidents, cardiac events, homicide, cancer and heat stroke, which all fell between 2002 and 2022. Overall, the proportion of suicide deaths doubled from the first 10 years (7.6%) to the second 10 years (15.3%), with suicide overtaking cardiac events to become the second most common cause of death, after accidents, among NCAA athletes. “Unfortunately, our study shows that while the overall death rate stayed mostly stable over time, the rate of suicide amongst collegiate athletes has gone up,” Whelan said. Wheland said they were surprised to see the rates increase how they did, especially as nonsuicide deaths decreased. #James Donaldson notes:Welcome to the “next chapter” of my life… being a voice and an advocate for #mentalhealthawarenessandsuicideprevention, especially pertaining to our younger generation of students and student-athletes.Getting men to speak up and reach out for help and assistance is one of my passions. Us men need to not suffer in silence or drown our sorrows in alcohol, hang out at bars and strip joints, or get involved with drug use.Having gone through a recent bout of #depression and #suicidalthoughts myself, I realize now, that I can make a huge difference in the lives of so many by sharing my story, and by sharing various resources I come across as I work in this space. #http://bit.ly/JamesMentalHealthArticleFind out more about the work I do on my 501c3 non-profit foundationwebsite www.yourgiftoflife.org Order your copy of James Donaldson's latest book,#CelebratingYourGiftofLife: From The Verge of Suicide to a Life of Purpose and Joy www.celebratingyourgiftoflife.com Link for 40 Habits Signupbit.ly/40HabitsofMentalHealth If you'd like to follow and receive my daily blog in to your inbox, just click on it with Follow It. my week 3 assignment
In this assignment you will find three data managed variables, provided from NESARC codebook, as frequency distributions. For the variable ‘AGE’.
I split the ages of the observations into four categories (18-21, 21-24, 24-27, 27-30) in order to examine the age frequency distribution of the sample into quartiles. I included missing data in the cannabis use variable distribution for ages 18 to 30, with the row ‘Unknown’ set to ‘nan’. In addition, after recoding variable ‘S3BD5Q2E’, which represents average rate of cannabis use, I created a new variable called ‘CUFREQMO’ that indicates how many days an individual used cannabis per month, and when using the most. I ran frequency distribution for the variable ‘CUFREQMO’ and calculated the counts and the percentages of this use per month. I then created a secondary variable with the name ‘NUMJOPMOTH_EST’. This variable estimates the quantity of cannabis joints smoked per month for the first 30 participants (18-30) when using the most by multiplying the amount of joints smoked per day (variable ‘S3BQ4’) with the variable ‘CUFREQMO’, which indicates the number of days an individual smoked per month. I finished with the creation of one more variable called ‘NUMMDGENANX’ that stands for the total number of participants who were diagnosed with either major depression, general anxiety or both. After examining the frequency distribution of the variable, I used the define function to create the last variable with the name ‘DEPRESSIONANXIETY’, which characterizes the mental state of the first 30 random cannabis users aged 18 to 30, as far as these two disorders are concerned. For the code and the output I used Spyder (IDE).
CODE
OUTPUT
First, a new variable called ‘AGE4GROUPS’ was necessary to be created in order to divide the participants ages between 18 and 30 years old, into four age groups: 18-21, 21-24, 24-27 and 27-30. From the frequency distribution it is noticed that about 30.73% were between 18 and 21 years old, 23.78% were between 21 and 24, 20.65% fell into 24-27 group and 24.82% fell into 27-30 group.
For the frequency distribution of variable ‘S3BQ1A5′, the missing data is included and option 9 is set to ‘NaN’ which represents the choice ‘Unknown’. As we can see the number of the missing data is 81 individuals and the proportion is 0.84% which is significantly small. Regarding the new variable with the name ’CUFREQMO’ which I created, the distribution results shows that about 15.96% smoked cannabis less than once per year, whereas approximately 22.13% used to smoke cannabis on an everyday basis. The rest of the cannabis use rates vary from about 2.65% for less than once per month to 11.6% for an average use of 6 times per month.
The new variable ‘NUMJOPMOTH_EST’ I created shows that the output illustrates the estimation of the quantity of joints smoked by those age 18 to 30 per month, by multiplying the quantity of joints smoked per day with the total number of days that they used cannabis per month. By examining the first 30 observations of the sample, it is noticeable the majority of these individuals smoked approximately less than 10 joints per month. With that said, there were also some participants who were smoking more than 100 joints monthly. Since the individuals with ID numbers 511 and 506 for example, peaked at 180 and 150 joints per month.
As for the new secondary variable ‘NUMMDGENANX’ is concerned, it is obvious that around 77% of cannabis users age between 18 and 30 were mentally healthy in the last 12 months after using marijuana for more than 1 year, while a percentage of 21.07% were diagnosed with either major depression or general anxiety. Only 1.91% of them were diagnosed with both depression and anxiety. Lastly, regarding the first 30 observations table presented in the end, the define function used, returns 0 if an individual had no problem with either depression or anxiety in the last 12 months, 1 if an individual met the criteria for both disorders, 2 if an individual was diagnosed only with major depression and 3 if an individual was diagnosed only with general anxiety. For the results, a new variable named ‘DEPRESSIONANXIETY’ was created.

Papua New Guinea’s prime minister was backed by three quarters of legislators in a parliamentary confidence vote Thursday, following riots last month that highlighted the Pacific island country’s tenuous hold on stability. The motion of confidence in Prime Minister James Marape was introduced by a government lawmaker and supported by 84 of the Parliament’s 111 members. Opposition parliamentarians, who had been attempting to get the legislature to debate and vote on a separate motion of no confidence in Marape, stormed out of the chamber. Assignment(Week 3): Making Data Management Decisions
In this assignment you will find three data managed variables, provided from NESARC codebook, as frequency distributions. For the variable ‘AGE’, I decided to split the ages of the observations in four categories (18-21, 21-24, 24-27, 27-30), in order to examine the age frequency distribution of the sample into quartiles. Furthermore, I included missing data in the cannabis use variable distribution for ages 18 to 30, with the row ‘Unknown’ set to ‘nan’. In addition, after recoding variable ‘S3BD5Q2E’, which represents average rate of cannabis use, I created a new variable called ‘CUFREQMO’ that indicates how many days an individual used cannabis per month, when using the most. Moreover, once I ran frequency distribution for the variable ‘CUFREQMO’ and calculated the counts and the percentages of this use per month, I created a secondary variable with the name ‘NUMJOPMOTH_EST’. This variable estimates the quantity of cannabis joints smoked per month for the first 30 participants (18-30) when using the most, by multiplying the amount of joints smoked per day (variable ‘S3BQ4’) with the variable ‘CUFREQMO’, which indicates the number of days an individual smoked per month. I finished with the creation of one more variable called ‘NUMMDGENANX’ that stands for the total number of participants who were diagnosed with either major depression, general anxiety or both illnesses. After examining the frequency distribution of this variable, I used the define function to create one last variable with the name ‘DEPRESSIONANXIETY’, which characterizes the mental state of the first 30 random cannabis users aged 18 to 30, as far as these two disorders are concerned. For the code and the output I used Spyder (IDE).
Code:
Output:
Firstly, a new variable called ‘AGE4GROUPS’ was necessary to be created in order to divide participants, aged between 18 and 30 years old, into four age groups: 18-21, 21-24, 24-27 and 27-30. From the frequency distribution it can be noticed that about 30.73% were between 18 and 21 years old, 23.78% were between 21 and 24, 20.65% fell into 24-27 group and 24.82% fell into 27-30 group.
For the frequency distribution of variable ‘S3BQ1A5′ the missing data is included and option 9 is set to ‘NaN’, which represents the choice ‘Unknown’. As we can see the number of the missing data is 81 individuals and the proportion is 0.84% which is significantly small. Regarding the new variable with the name ’CUFREQMO’ which I created, the distribution results show that about 15.96% smoked cannabis less than once per year, whereas approximately 22.13% used to smoke cannabis in an everyday basis. The rest of the cannabis use rates vary from about 2.65% for less than once per month, to 11.6% for an average use of 6 times per month.
Taking into account the new variable ‘NUMJOPMOTH_EST’ which I created, the output illustrates the estimation of the quantity of joints smoked by young adults aged 18 to 30 per month, by multiplying the quantity of joints smoked per day with the total number of days that they used cannabis per month. By examining the first 30 observations of the sample, it is noticeable that the majority of individuals smoked approximately less than 10 joints per month. On the other hand there were also some participants who were smoking more than 100 joints monthly, since individuals with ID numbers 511 and 506 for example, peaked at 180 and 150 joints per month respectively.
Concerning the recently introduced secondary variable 'NUMMDGENANX,' it is evident that approximately 77% of young adults aged 18 to 30, who have used cannabis for over a year, maintained mental health in the last 12 months. Conversely, about 21.07% received diagnoses of either major depression or general anxiety, with only 1.91% being diagnosed with both mental disorders.
The final table, encompassing the initial 30 observations, employs the 'define' function. This function assigns a value of 0 if an individual had no issues with depression or anxiety in the last 12 months, 1 if an individual met the criteria for both disorders, 2 if diagnosed only with major depression, and 3 if diagnosed only with general anxiety. The outcomes are captured in a newly generated variable termed 'DEPRESSIONANXIETY.'
