im kinda bad at talking to people on the internet but i always want to comment on art and music i like by small creators 1) because its nice to know and 2) depending on the website (like youtube) maybe it might help a little with spreading it around. but im still kind of bad at it. so a lot of people get an "awesome!!" from me and lemme tell you - i mean everyone of those "awesome!!"'s. i mean it with all my heart. sometimes a thing is just awesome, so awesome it needs more than one exclamation mark!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been at one of the biggest conferences for my field over the past few days, and one of my old professors from undergrad was there. I hadn't approached him because he was always talking to people when I was wandering around, but he had also gone zipping past me multiple times when I was standing around and hadn't seemed to recognize me, so I figured that it had just been too long. Tonight I was hanging around with a group outside, waiting for their last few people to come out so we could head back to the main hotel. Since we were outside, I had my mask off. My old professor and his group came out, he glanced over- and immediately went "YOU!" and insisted that I join their group so I could catch him up on what I've been up to.

...apparently my mask just makes me completely unrecognizable.

He then proceeded to introduce me to his group of students as "a recent graduate of <their college>" and I had to tell him that it's been eight years, actually, and he had to take a couple minutes to recover from that.

(possibly funnier is the fact that on the first day of the conference, my advisor- who has seen me in a mask plenty of times, since I wear one on campus when I'm not in the grad space or outside- went tearing right by me (literally within two feet) (I think looking for check-in?) and evidently didn't notice. Ma'am, my old professor has the excuse of eight years and a mask, you saw me a week ago.)

back when i had my own horse he was ALWAYS getting injured so i had to rehab him a ton which meant we had a lot of rides where i could literally only walk so i would just go to the barn later at night when no one was there and get on him bareback so that i could open google docs and do hw or write fics while letting him wander around the ring at his leisure

one of my advisors emotionally eviscerated me in my dissertation meeting this morning and made me cry in front of him and my school dad (my other advisor). i know that some people have the “you doubted me and i’m going to prove you wrong so you can eat your words” instinct when they receive criticism but instead i was cursed with the the “internalize it until i feel worthless and the last five years of my life in which i’ve been studying toward this goal i deserve but have had many undeserved obstacles to feel pointless” reflex

I was tagged by the ever-lovely @apeacebone to share the last six sentences I've written in a WIP, which ... I haven't touched a WIP in MONTHS so ... uh, you get what might, one day, be a kink meme fill. Sorry whoever's prompt this is.

"You know I love you, right?" George says, digging his spoon listlessly into the bowl of ice cream Lando's holding. Vanilla. The sort with flecks of actual vanilla in. Ridiculously expensive and handmade and bought from the shop around the corner in preparation.

"Yeah," Lando smiles, "course." His voice is hoarse, still a bit ragged from, well. From. He's warm and solid against George now though, tucked under his arm on the couch and wearing one of George's hoodies. It makes George feel incrementally better.
