There is an omitted scene from The Terror in which Morfin, Crispe, Holding, and Charles Best are all snuggled in a tent together right before Morfin goes nuts. It's like a morbid sleepover. Only without snacks. Anyway, I will never forgive them for not keeping it in the script.

the whole time i was watching The Terror with my friends, one of them kept saying "it's Morfin time" every time Morfin came on screen and the thing is, he never said it.

The scene where Morfin is killed is so well done. There is so much happening all at once but it never feels busy and it packs such a punch. You've got Morfin, a man who is in so much pain that he is begging to be killed and when the others refuse he uses what little strength he has left and forces their hand. You've got Crozier, all calm and cool and keeping control over the crew. Fitzjames, once again watching Crozier hold the mantle of Captain in a way he would have thought impossible at the start of the expedition. Goodsir begging Morfin to let him help ease his pain. Silna watching Goodsir. And of course Tozer getting into position with his rifle. And all the while everyone is dead silent except for Neptune barking his head off in the background. But then there's Hickey. He turns away from Morfin and the crowd and walks away through the tents. And while you're absorbing everything else that's happening you think yeah of course he's walking away he did that with David Young too you think yeah that's his typical coldness...and then Morfin is shot and killed and you realize...Neptune has stopped barking.

rewatching The Terror and uncovering whole new layers of story to die inside about like "the tragic inevitable trajectories of that poor guy with a headache, that other poor guy with the cocaine, and that still other poor guy with the brother"
and "most of those random marines were actually just one (1) marine with a character arc"
and "edward little, eldest daughter, quietly spending every scene visibly stressed about his parents' unfolding divorce"

I do wonder, with Hodgson, whether he was perhaps more affected by lead and scurvy than previously thought, and affected sooner.
I'm skimming the E07 script - because clearly I have nothing better to do on a Saturday night - and there are several tiny details that suddenly jump out at me.
During the confrontation prior to Morfin's death, for example, and after the line "My head. Cut if off. Put it with the others..." it is Hodgson who is singled out and mentioned specifically as noting the oddness of Morfin's comment and actively being spooked by it.
Then, of course, Hodgson leads the burial party where it's unclear whether he actually takes part in the physical work - we only really see him standing eerily still in the background and then staring contemplatively down when the job is done.
And afterwards, there's slightly more in the script compared to what we eventually see on screen. Hodgson walks through the camp, appearing much more explicitly upset by the events preceding and actively trying to settle his thoughts. He literally sits with his head in his hands when Hickey finally does approach him.
With all that in mind, it would make sense to me if Hodgson were already suffering the ill-effects of the lead and/or scurvy, if he took one look at Morfin's sorry situation and came to the terrifying conclusion that the same thing would soon be happening to him.
And if Hodgson were thinking more along those lines, then it also makes even more sense why he would be swayed so quickly and effectively by Hickey providing such an immediate solution to the issue, right there right then, literally in the flesh.
