What if john's favorite tea was oolong. Something something healing by replacing bad sensory memories with good ones. Maybe john stocked it in the breakroom and requested martin for it early on, and martin powered through in order to people please. How the aroma would tie itself in his head to his workplace crush, to simple camaraderie...until it'd become a bitter thing, the smell intruding less and less often within the tense work environment. Until the scent is suddenly bittersweet, but only in memory; the tea itself sitting untouched for months at a time. And then, rarely, it becomes something of a comfort- but only in the way a handshake with an enemy as a call for a truce would be; a fragile, small shared comfort in the midst of war.

Only then after martins tipping point, like some kind of fucked up reset, martin makes tea for the two of them at the safehouse, and he realizes the smell, its just... johns favorite tea. Reminiscent of how that memory started in the archives, nostalgic almost, but...more, in a weird way- a good way.

I love to think about the archivist. About how everyone probably hates it except for our monster lover Martin, but even he just was waiting for the archivist to become John again when they appeared at the beginning. I like to think that their skin is very cold.
