Happy New Year! I live in the South of the USA, so it's still December 31st making this the last fic of 2024 in my part of the world. But this is the first fic of 2025 in other parts of the world. 🤗

I'm so excited to share this new one with yall. I know how much yall enjoyed Ungrateful, so I know yall will really like this one! Read the summary below for more information:

After the displacement of your family and your subsequent kidnapping, you want nothing more than to free yourself from your captor. However, you are unable to for days due to exhaustion and hunger. That is until the fateful morning where your kidnapper is caught in a deep sleep. So with all of the energy you can muster, you make a run for it. But you are soon stopped by a handsome outlaw that takes your breath away at the first glance. Will he be able to protect you from the monster who stole you? And will he help you find the true freedom you've so clearly desired? You'll just have to stick with him and see.

Author's Note: This fic is a prequel to Ungrateful set three years previous to that fic and takes place a few months after the events of the movie. The setting is the nice, quaint town of San Benito, set on the Mexican side of the Rio Grande. This settlement is the halfway point between Acacagua, where Joe went to heal up after the movie, and his destination of Santa Rosa on the American side of the Rio Grande.

“Hey,” a gravelly voice spoke from the depths of the dark.

Shit, you hadn’t meant to wake him. You had been fully prepared to sneak out and do the walk of shame to your own hotel room alone, you hadn’t been planning on an audience. But you couldn’t find where your underwear had landed and the attempts to find them in the dark had resulted in you clumsily stumbling over the coffee table.

“What are you doing?” He was half sat up, eyes squinting to adjust to the low light. The room was dark, the only source of light being the neon lights from the street below fighting their way through the curtains.

“I was-“

“Are you sneaking out?”

“Um,” you weren’t sure how you were suppose to answer that. You couldn’t pull your usual lie and say you had work early in the morning because you both had the same schedule. Damn press junkets.

He flicked on the lamp and you were suddenly aware you were naked. On the bright side, the light illuminated your surroundings and you spotted your underwear on the floor. You quickly snatched them up and pulled them on. Now to find your dress so you could regain some semblance of your dignity.

“I didn’t mean to wake you,” you eyed your dress from the night before crumpled in a heap on the sofa. The sofa, where an innocent glass of wine between friends had evolved into drunken flirting, eventually leading to you ending up in his bed.

“That much is obvious,” he was sitting up now, the bed sheets barely covering his hips. The lamp light bounced off his silver chain as he stretched, clasping his hands behind his head. He was watching you with keen interest and you felt completely exposed under his gaze. When you crossed your arms over your chest he smirked. He’d seen a lot more than just your chest last night. “C’mon darling, what are you doing?”

“I don’t know!” Your voice was shrill with frustration. “I really don’t know,” you hadn’t expected to end up in this situation; sneaking out after sleeping with your co-star, let alone that he would be questioning you while you stood practically naked in his hotel room after said sneaking out failed miserably.

“C’mere,” he held out his hand, beckoning you to him and for some unknown reason you felt a magnetic pull towards him. “I thought we had fun last night.”

“We did. I did. I just don’t know what this is.”

“Who says it has to be anything?”

“Oh,” you weren’t sure why that upset you as much as it did. Of course you weren’t anything, but maybe somewhere in the past year you’d spent flirting you’d built up the possibility that you two could be something more.

He must of sensed your hurt because he added, “I mean we don’t have to figure it out right now, we can just keep having a good time together.” He pressed a kiss to your hand, bringing it up to cup his cheek.

“You want to do this again?”

“If you want to, of course. I enjoy spending time with you.” He smiled, then added, “and I especially enjoyed our time together last night.”

You didn’t know what came over you but you let out a girlish giggle, a flush creeping up your neck. “I enjoyed that too.”

“So stay.”

“I’ve got to meet hair and makeup at 9-“

“I’ll set the alarm for 8,” he was pouting and it was taking every part of you not to kiss it off his lips.

“Fine.”

“Fine,” he matched your tone, pulling you on top of him, leaning in to press your lips together.
