i was talking to a friend about this today and i, of course, am going to yap about it. because i've been incredibly vocal and it's pointed out a lot how annoying it is but,,,

discussions of jkr in the marauders fandom are ongoing, and they need to be. this is not a topic we visit once, it's a topic we need to continue discussing because it's constantly evolving.

when jkr first became public with her views, it was "boycott the studios, boycott the merch, don't interact", which was appropriate for the time of "this franchise is done, do not engage with what is already there"

when things like cursed child and hogwarts legacy come out, it's a different conversation. because we're not just discussing things with her name plastered on the front of, we're talking about her IP as a whole. as the franchise develops into other areas, we need to discuss how to navigate that. we have discussions about the contributions of others, on "supporting the theatre cast/developers, not her" and how that's still harmful. it's a different discussion.

and today, it's more important than ever. not just because trans rights are under violent attack, but because fandom is more mainstream. more people join who may not be aware and they need to be educated, and this increased traction contributes to complacency.

we need to discuss how blowing up random tiktokers comment section with "this is so james potter!!!" is harmful even when it seems like a bit of fun, because it normalises engagement with this media, and encourages people to join without education. how blowing up fancasts comment sections is harmful because then people get excited over the possibility of them joining the reboot, or even just the fact that a high-profile celebrity is now connected with this fandom, and if they don't speak up on it, engagement with jkr must be okay, right? whether you're speaking on it, commenting on it, or a reposting a tiktok, it's engagement.

because like it or not, being in this fandom and producing content for this fandom is a form of promotion, so what can we do to make sure that we are promoting the right things? that we are doing it ethically? that we are keeping people educated?

the changing face of the franchise, the changing face of trans rights, and the changing face of fandom spaces is why these discussions keep coming up. because newer fans need to be educated, and older fans need to stay updated as things change.

but the one constant, the one constant thing that i really want to emphasise here is that it has never been about shaming. or cancelling. or "ganging up" against people.

it's about human rights. it's about lives > content.

these discussions aren't had so that we can call people out - although, if you feel called out by such discussions, maybe that's a sign you need to do better - it's about education. a guiding hand. awareness.

we educate and we have these discussions because one person doesn't make a difference. one person not watching the reboot makes no difference, and realistically? a complete, total boycott of JKR will make no difference - trans people will be under attack either way.

but you don't need to change the world to change your corner of it. and you don't need to have global influence to have an influence - you may not make an individual difference to her income and influence by profiting her, but you make a difference to the people around you, the people in this space, when you openly do so. you don't need to change the world to show solidarity.

and that's why these discussions take place. and that's why they keep taking place.

because in the wider world? everything is shit. everything is fucking awful. trans people are fighting day by day to not off themselves, or be offed.

so, listen, because the way you shape your corner matters, and we should not have to fight to prove that us living authentically, and enjoying our time in this space, is more important than a remake.

so yes, these discussions might be annoying. you can reach out and complain in my dms as much as you want, you can leave comments on people's videos asking if it's that deep, and you can say you just want to enjoy your time without getting lectured.

you can say that it's annoying.

and it won't be a fraction of the annoyance trans people feel both in and out of this space.

I really dgaf about sports and the Olympics, but I just saw the tweets JKR posted. I can’t really stay silent on her nonsense, especially since her words hit me hard as a woman with PCOS.

JKR claims to be this "great feminist” standing for women against “transgender ideology" then goes and attacks a cis woman of color because she has a genetic disorder.

It is so stupid to claim that being born with different hormones means that you're automatically of the opposite gender.

I'm also a woman who produces excessive amounts of testosterone and did look ‘manly’ for a certain period of my life. I remember going through something similar to male puberty. Instead of menstruating, I got thick, dense facial and body hair, my jaw got wider and my acne worsened.

That's when the vicious rumors about me being a "fake girl". It pressured me to start taking hormones at an early age (13). Kids lacked basic decency because of their immaturity, but to have a grown ass woman bullying an athlete is just horrific. I seriously can’t put how I felt when I saw that stupid terf call a cis woman ‘a man’ into words.

It's also racist and sexist to assume woman = dainty and frail. It's mostly WOC who have increased levels of testosterone and maintaining that sexist stereotype affects us the most.

And please don’t get me started on how that Italian boxer is a racist cop with links to the FAR RIGHT. Would I be taking it too far to say that she quit on purpose so she could sabotage the reputation of Imane 🤔 I don’t think so…

I couldn't give less of a fuck about anything happening in modern Harry Potter remakes because JKR is a terf, but I still have a lingering love for Snape despite the internet deciding he's garbage now, so I'm gonna weigh in real quick on a topic that is apparently controversial (on Reddit at least).

People are apparently mad that a black man got cast as Snape because *checks notes* Snape is mean and racist and also this will make the scene where the Marauders hang him upside down by a tree look really really bad.

And once again, may I remind Marauders stans in the year 2025 that the Marauders were absolutely bigots! They were. That's what they were doing, being bigots. It was really, really bad to begin with. Sirius in fact tried to kill him later, leaving Snape traumatized, and Dumbledore gave him a slap on the wrist over it.

And once again, may I remind you that Snape was an abused half blood child, so he was in fact a marginalized person, literally surrounded by the children of bigots who were being groomed and recruited for a bigot death cult, and his bullies were just other bigots from a different house. So like...shut the fuck up. This is like the third time I've known about in the past few years a black person got cast as a controversial white character and everybody made an "anti-racist" argument for why that shouldn't happen. i think a lot of us were bamboozled by the novelty back when the art prompt generators first started emerging -- i know i played with one for a few days several years ago before i really stopped to think about the implications and consequences of helping to train the ai model. and that was before i realized that the whole way they function is by scraping and stealing the creations of actual artists and writers.

but i know better now. we all know better now. we all know -- or at least, a significant portion of us know -- that the basis of ai art and writing is theft.

artists and writers are already devalued and underpaid as it is. using these ai generators that steal their work and by doing so, training them to do it more convincingly is frankly indefensible. even if you're doing it to critique or mock them.

it's like buying a jkr book just to deface it. the bigoted shitheel still got the money even if you pasted over every page with "the author is a shithead", just like the ai still got trained even if you made the bad art or story just to dunk on it.

i genuinely don't care how good a piece of ai generated art or writing looks on the surface. i don't care if it emulates brush strokes and metaphor in a way indistinguishable from those created by a person.

it is not the product of thoughtful creation. it offers no insights into the creator's life or viewpoint. it has no connection to a moment in time or a place or an attitude. it has no perspective. it has no value.

The Harry Potter fandom is such a miserable place to be in right now. A good chunk of the fandom has this obsessive hatred for J.K. Rowling (for supporting biological women's rights to safety and privacy) to the extent that they have to mention that they don't like or support her (branding her a TERF) whenever they post about HP or write fanfic or draw fanart. Not to mention the constant race bending of canonical white characters in both the fandom (e.g., turning James Potter Indian (?) and Hermione black) as well as that upcoming HBO adaptation (the ridiculous choice of actor for Snape). People are being branded as racist if you dislike characters' established races being changed for no good reason. Actors like Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson publicly support the transing of children. Nitpicking parts of the story to try and demonise Rowling further (the writing for Cho Chang and the goblins, etc). It makes you wonder why these people are even in the fandom, seeing as they clearly hate the story, the established characters, as well as the author. Trying to change something that you don't like or care for is a complete waste of time, in my opinion.

The HP fandom has always been like that to a degree. The funny thing about black Hermione is that, until JKR stood up for biological reality, they would always point to her quote from when that black lady was cast in Cursed Child where she said Hermione could be black because she never specified her skin color (even though she's described as pale in the books and JRK said that the actors cast for the Golden Trio in the movies was exactly how she pictured them in her head) but the moment she became a "TERF" suddenly they're all on board for Death of the Author. Sometimes literally.

This shit is why I ignore most fandoms, especially the HP fandom. I just go on AO3, block the trans tags, and search for fics.

I've been thinking a lot about the ruling in the UK and Jkrs actions toward it and her response. I've been thinking a lot about how terrifying it is here in the States right now with a proud, bigoted dictator.

My heart and soul are so fucking heavy right now. I try not to show it, but I know Im a naturally anxious person, and these things have been sitting in the back of my mind. Festering the more I try to ignore it because I have no one around me irl who will talk about this with me. I hate living in the silence all the time.

I havent had any problems here so far, but I want to make this message loud and clear. If you are a TERF, or a transphobe in general, if you are homophobic, sexists, racist, xenophobic, then get the hell off of my page. I will never stand for any of that here, ever. Because if you are going to act intolerate and ignorant for no reason, then I will for a good reason. My safety, and the safety of others.

I will make this loud and clear. Trans women are real women. Trans men are real men. Nonbinary/ Agender people are valid. Marriage was around BEFORE religion. Lgbt love is real and valid love.

No woman should be afraid to be arrested because they are using the womens restroom. Are we seeing how absurd that sounds? How scary that is for transwomen? How scary that is for women who don't fit the feminine stereotype? ALL WOMAN IN GENERAL??

Im going to put this very plain and simple and it may shock some of you so be prepared. If a man desperately wanted to sa or grape a woman in the bathroom, he would. If he wanted to dress as a woman and harm other women, he would. Lets think rationally. A Real transwoman is not going to go through all of the hormone therapies, or surgeries, or other tasks to transition just so that she can get into the womens restroom and inflict harm. I can guarentee that a man is not willing to go those lengths for that, because he can infict harm if he really wanted anytime.

Transwomen are real women just trying to live their lives like everyone else.

What scares me more is how are they going to police this? Are they going to start checking peoples genitalia to determine if theyre in the "right" bathroom or not? Absolutely the FUCK not!

This affects women as a whole.

Now. We need to talk about the fandom. Never will I ever allow another penny of mine to be given to that horrid author. Ever. However, the hp and marauders fandom has changed my life. I become more accepting of myself because of it. I've found such an amazing community full of incredible artists, writers, bloggers, and other creatives alike. Ive said it before, we have taken a world born from bigotry and turned it into a place of inclusivity in spite of the creator and hp and marauders will forever have have a special place in my heart.

With that being said. You can hate the artist and appreciate the art. How? Where u put ur money, you put ur support. For instance. Me personally I avoid Starbucks. They won't be given my money because of their unfair treatment and being anti Palestine was the cherry on top, also im poor and its not worth it. Are there other companies like it? Yes but but i chose starbucks. It's a small change on ur end that becomes a collective change when everyone else is involved, and together, we significantly dropped starbucks earnings.

Same for jkr rn. You know what she supports and where she takes her dollars earned from viewers. How do you enjoy the world of hp then? Dont give her the money, dont give her attention on social media. Dont interact with her accounts. Block her. Want to buy the books or even the video game? Buy them second hand or from a nondirect seller. I have resources to recommend. Do NOT WATCH THE NEW TV SERIES!!!! I just know that with casting choices, there are going to be racial micro aggressions in the show, and that's more hate that the world doesn't need. Get involved with the community on here, ao3, and/or other SM platforms.

My friends and siblings of the LGBT+ community (and allies), it is important more than ever that we take a stand to love, support, and protect our fellow trans people. Sacred safe spaces are becoming more sparse. Protect the spaces we have now and help to create new ones. It feels like we are going back, and its up to us not let it happen.

the marauders fandom has exhibited and continues to show some of the most severe cases of 'ignorance is bliss' that quite literally extends to all corners of the fandom from turning a blind eye to the problematic behavior of friends/mutuals, enabling and defending plagiarizing writers and artists that face NO consequences or whatsoever, buying and selling bookbinds after writers explicitly said not to do so, not even batting an eye when someone actively funds a raging bigoted fucking racist terf who will strip you of your rights at any given chance because you don't have a single confrontational bone in you

because at the end of the day, they just want to consume and consume and consume and consume and are smart enough to know damn well it's wrong but privileged plenty to continue doing so bc it doesn't affect them anyway. they want to play the shitty games. they want all the publications of the shitty books. they want to showcase the shitty over-priced merch they got. doing all of that and reblogging fundraisers or awareness posts thinking it cancels out their soul rot

it just pisses me off because they treat transness like an accessory or a weird, fucked up badge of honor. they use it as a way to “give oppression” to characters who are otherwise privileged in every way. to make the tiny little white boys seem more oppressed than they are.
