I wonder if Wei Wuxian choosing Jin RuLan as a name for his sister's baby was subconscious Lan crush behaviour or if he knew what he was doing

something about how both wei wuxian and jin guangyao repeatedly say they ‘didn’t have a choice’ in their actions. in both cases, it’s not literal impossibility, instead determined by their mindsets and personal conduct…. but while for wei wuxian that means he can’t do something immoral, even if it means losing all his social power, for jin guangyao it means he can’t do anything to lose his social power, even if it means doing something immoral. the other option is still there, but it’s never one they’d pick.
something about how they’re trying to walk the same path but in opposite directions: wei wuxian willingly left the nice, broad road in favour of upholding morals and debts, while jin guangyao is trying to claw onto it and stay there by any means necessary. in both cases, being parted from it so easily is only possible because this nice, broad road — full of people whose social power is unconditional, given at birth, independent of their actions — was never truly theirs to begin with. but despite how it is possible to be forced off due to nothing, as we see with wang lingjiao, the positions of both these characters were ultimately due to actions they took.
(about how no matter the similarity of the paths, no matter the narrowness of the choices, the direction you take is still up to you.)

"i am neither your mom or your dad, and i can never be" i know. but do you realize that your murdered brother, my dead father, named me a name monophonic to yours despite of you being missing for seven years and a half? and i somehow just knew under the bed wasn't the answer when i saw your friend who you called after you went away and came in to secure my safety got killed by uninvited guests through the slight gap of my bedroom door, it's actually the fall from the window that'd kept the murderer away from me. and i was only seven at the time, but even the evil, evil man said "you are definitely his family by blood" and "the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree" when i chose to hurt myself just to get away from them, just to keep on living because you said you'd come back.
and you did come back.

Very specific but I'd love Jiang Cheng being Jin Ling's favorite uncle in aro4aro chengqing au and Wei Wuxian being mortally offended
People seemed to think that Jiang Yanli was completely blind to her brothers’ faults. This was not true. She just generally did not think those faults were nearly as bad as people made them out to be. Most of what other people found bothersome about her brothers, she was charmed by because she was nothing if not a doting sister.
Being doting and fond, however, did not mean she was unaware of how annoying her brothers were. In fact, due to regular exposure to the two of them, she was extremely aware of just how annoying they could be.
Case in point: their tendency to make everything into a competition, including the affection of her own son.
“I’m just saying, if anyone is going to be the fun uncle, it’s obviously me,” Wei Wuxian said, shaking a rattle over Jin Ling’s head.
“He’s two,” Jiang Cheng snapped, bouncing Jin Ling on his knee. “Anything that moves and makes noise is fun to him.”
“Well, I move and make the most noise, so.” Wei Wuxian leaned in and started making faces at his nephew. “Right, A-Ling? Right?”
Jin Ling gurgled happily and clapped his hands.
Jiang Yanli sighed and leaned against her husband. She appreciated her brothers taking her son off her hands for a while, but really, they were enough of a handful themselves. “Don’t fight, boys,” she said, shaking her head fondly. “A-Ling loves you both.”
“Yeah, but he loves me most, right shijie?” Wei Wuxian shot her a grin. Jiang Cheng huffed and smacked the back of his head, making Jin Ling shriek happy peals of laughter. She could practically feel Zixuan roll his eyes behind her.
“Please don’t give my son ideas,” he said in the long-suffering tone he tended to adopt when he had to be patient with his brothers-in-law. Yanli appreciated the fragile civility they attempted these days. “A-Ling, no hitting, okay?”
“Unless it’s your da-jiu,” Jiang Cheng added in a loud whisper, “Then you should hit him as hard as you can.”
“Nooo, A-Ling would never hit me, he’s such a good boy, isn’t he?” Wei Wuxian cooed, tickling Jin Ling’s belly. Jin Ling shrieked with laughter again and one of his flailing fists collided directly with Wei Wuxian’s eye.
Yanli only barely managed to hide her laugh behind her hand. Jiang Cheng snickered, and Zixuan let out a quiet huff of laughter.
“Ah, it was just an accident!” Wei Wuxian insisted. “He’s going to be a very strong cultivator with quick reflexes someday, I can tell!” And then, because he never learned to leave well enough alone, he said, “We should just ask him. Just because he’s little, that doesn’t mean he can’t answer questions!” He poked Jin Ling in the belly again to get his attention, “A-Ling, who’s your favorite? Da-jiu or jiujiu?”
Technically, Jiang Cheng should be er-jiu, but he got priority as the one who met Jin Ling first and saw him the most often. It couldn’t really be helped; Wei Wuxian was still unofficially banned from Carp Tower due to his inability to stay out of trouble, which meant Jiang Cheng got to visit his nephew on diplomatic visits, but Wei Wuxian only got to see him during their frequent trips to Lotus Pier. That meant Jiang Yanli was fairly certain she knew the answer, even before Jin Ling said it.
“Jiujiu!” he happily cried, reaching up to grab Jiang Cheng’s cheeks. The betrayal on Wei Wuxian’s face was comical, especially compared to the way Jiang Cheng’s face lit up. Yanli felt a little bad for Wei Wuxian’s feelings, but it was worth it to see her typically dour baby brother beam under his nephew’s uncomplicated affection.
“Ah, come here A-Xian,” Yanli said, sitting up so she wasn’t leaning against Zixuan and could instead summon her pouting brother to her side. “Don’t take it to heart, okay? He’s a baby, he doesn’t mean to hurt your feelings.”
“I know, I know, shijie,” Wei Wuxian sighed, but leaned in so she could pet his hair anyway. “You don’t think I would be resentful of a baby, do you?”
The noise Jin Zixuan made behind her made it very clear that he wouldn’t put it past Wei Wuxian to be resentful of a baby. Yanli reached back and pinched his thigh, but otherwise focused on Wei Wuxian. “The next baby we have, I’ll deliver here in Lotus Pier, how about that? Qing-mei can be my midwife, and you can get first dibs on holding the baby. Aside from me and A-Xuan, of course.”
“Promise?” he said, giving her the pleading eyes that always earned him an extra portion of soup.
“I promise.” She kissed his forehead, and this seemed to improve his mood, though his eyes immediately narrowed in suspicion in Jin Zixuan’s direction.
“You’re not already having another baby, are you?” he asked. Zixuan coughed awkwardly, and Yanli pinched Wei Wuxian’s cheek this time.
“A-Xian, be nice,” she said, lightly scolding. “We’ll tell you when we know, okay?”
“Okay, shijie,” Wei Wuxian grumbled, still shooting Jin Zixuan judgmental looks. He turned back to Jin Ling, who was being gently tossed in the air by Jiang Cheng. “A-Ling! Do you wanna go down the river and visit A-Yuan?”
“Yuan-ge, Yuan-ge!” Jin Ling happily exclaimed, clapping his hands. His uncles scooped him up and grabbed the bag of diapers and snacks Yanli had brought, bundling him out onto the pier with promises not to drown their beloved nephew in the lake.
Zixuan let out a tired sigh as soon as they left the room, taking his turn to lean against his wife’s side. “Why are they always this exhausting?”
Yanli laughed and petted his hair. “Maybe another baby would give them something else to focus on,” she suggested lightly. Zixuan immediately flushed red and hid his face in her shoulder, making her laugh again.
Yes, her brothers’ antics could be annoying, but they were good uncles. She was very grateful to be able to trust her son in their hands for a few hours.

Lan Siwen has inherited grandpa wwx's terrible naming sense? His spiritual bunny has a pun name, his sword probably has a pun name, and if he ever acquires a kid, he probably gives the kid a pun name too. Or maybe he's like his great-grandma cssr, who named her baby "baby."
I don't really think Wei Wuxian has bad naming sense (afaik the only "silly" name he ever chose was Little Apple, since Jiang Fengmian named Suibian, and Jin Ling's courtesy name is actually quite beautiful)...but Siwen digs out the generation poem from Sizhui's maternal family and uses that to choose his child's formal name. Until said Wangxian great-grandbaby turns five, though, he answers to the baby name of "Salty Porridge." ᕙ( : ˘ ∧ ˘ : )ᕗ

Winter |
Tumblr media
"Winter paused long enough to feel the shiver of trees, the stars and the breeze, the marvel of nature in pure harmony." (Angie Weiland-Crosby.)
Characters: Choi Jong-in, Cha Hae-in, Sung Jin-woo, Woo Jin-chul, Eun-seok, Lee Ju-hee, & Min Byung-gyu.
~ ❆ ~
Choi Jong-in
• He wondered if he could ever get cold. The soft freezing wind, nibbling on one's skin, always turned into warmth when it touched his own. Snowflakes melted in his palms and had not lasted a few seconds in his hand. Jong-in used to be fascinated with the cold season, wondering how it formed and fell from the sky, but now that he was an adult, winter was rather a passing hello. A hello to the frozen waters, a hello to the desire to feel the heat, a hello to the powdery white snow in the streets. Nonetheless, Jong-in liked watching the snowflakes, tiny particles waltzing in the air until they gracefully touched the ground, dissolving out of plain sight; he reached his hand out and waited for the single snowflake to slowly descend on his hand. He smiled when it finally did, feeling as if the snow had kissed his fingertip. He might not be able to completely experience the winter's wonder, but he always felt the winter's magic.
Cha Hae-in
• For once, she felt at ease; the icy blues of the sky and the tiny specks of snowfall drifting gradually in the air, they made her enamored, drawn in a spell that she could never take her eyes off. There was something about the winter that soothed her soul like a lullaby. Today, she woke up past her usual time, which only meant that winter had arrived. The season allowed her to sleep longer until her body was satisfied. Hae-in made herself hot chocolate milk, added with marshmallows, she stirred her mug and sat on the bean bag next to the broad glass window. She dragged a fur blanket over her lap as she glanced at the city outside of her condominium, the sky was clear and clouds were like cotton, utterly white that there were no trace of a bad weather in them. The streets were engulfed with snow and some areas might be slippery. Hae-in's mind ran over various of ways she could spend her day as the first day of snow. Sure, winter would stay for quite some time, but Hae-in hoped she wouldn't miss a thing. Winter had brought the inner child of her which she never expected it was still there.
Sung Jin-woo
• Inhaling the frigid air, it reminded him of the coziness brought by the heater as he and his sister were wrapped under the comforters, watching the movie their father had chosen. His mother would return from the market and prepare the most delicious stew. Jin-woo tugged on the collar of his jacket, burying his hands into his pockets to feel a tad warmth. Tank and the other bears were rolling around the snow, whining tenderly, their pleasant mood was palpable for Jin-woo to stay longer outside in the empty field where no other person could see them. Kaisel crawled under the snow and sprung up, sending fragments of snow everywhere, flapping its wings in delight. The ants were oddly curious of their surroundings, sniffing and even eating the snow, while Beru and others had found themselves forming shapes out of snow. Whether he admit it or not, he liked what he was witnessing, rather than a bloodshed battle. With his shadows happy, he was happy too. Seeing their other side was enough for Jin-woo to feel as though he had not lost that part of him either. Perhaps he could drag his sister out to play later on. Make snow angels and throw snow balls at each other. But now, Jin-woo chose to relish in the happiness radiating from his soldiers.
Woo Jin-chul
• The barista placed the cup of coffee on the counter. Jin-chul muttered his 'thank you' and grabbed the cup, bringing it to his lips to take a sip on the creamy, chocolatey coffee. He pushed the door on his way out and the temperature immediately changed. From the warm and cozy ambiance of the café to the icy and tough atmosphere of the winter. His breaths came in small clusters of mist, the tips of his ears turned into a soft taint of red, though he did not shiver and continued his stroll. Usually, most would do the best out of snow, but for Jin-chul, he'd rather stay in the background and watch the lives of people and the way they coped with the cold. It was him and his hot coffee against the breezy winter, shrouding the whole city — country — into pale white.
Eun-seok
• He had a dream. . . The shivering wind gyrating around his hand, the softness of snow beneath his feet, and the tender warmth from the fire. He wished to feel it again. In his grandfather's home, where it was him and his cousins, curled on the ondol floor, sprawling their bodies as they waited for the old man to finish the oyster stew. Winter had been the happiest season in his life, he loved each day of it more than the rest of the seasons. He couldn't wait to hold a mug contained with hot chocolate and a movie waiting for him in his living room. Eun-seok cracked a smile, staring at the clear blue sky, imagining the things he wanted to do. . . Things he still wanted to do. As his life came short, falling into the deadly hands of the vicious ants, devouring every inch of his dear life, he hoped that if the afterlife existed, he would wake up in winter's embrace, surrounded by endless snow.
Lee Ju-hee
• She was not a big fan of the cold. Lee Ju-hee already missed the beaming shine of sunlight, radiating across the city. Bright and lively. Now, she had woken up to the streets covered in white, so rather than making breakfast, she dressed herself in layers of clothing to keep herself warm and a pair of mittens to protect her hands from touching anything that had been grasped by the harsh atmosphere. She returned to the comfort of her home once she was done, along with the purple petunia that she had picked up after noticing how it was not coping well with the snow, she placed it next to the window where it had the most sunlight. Ju-hee gently caressed the petals with her bare hand, feeling the softness beneath her skin; she smiled, glad how it did not easily waver in the freezing wind. Just like her. Winter had not been her favorite season, but she learned how tender things could be, thus must be held in the warmest hands.
Min Byung-gyu
• Children were always rhapsodic no matter what season it was. Whether it was the embracing winter or the beaming summer, Byung-gyu lived to see those smiles on their faces as if the world they stood upon was a paradise. Laughter echoed in the wind across the neighborhood, kids threw snowballs at one another, Byung-gyu watched with a broad grin; he used his arms to shield his face from being hit by the snowballs and turned to his back on the playful children as he gathered a cluster of snow, pressing it into a ball, then he launched it at one of the kids. He guffawed when he heard them squeal. Unfortunately, it was all when he heard a cry among them. A little boy was sniffling after being hit in the head, so knowing what he must do, Byung-gyu placed his hand on the boy's head to ease the pain; everything returned to the way it was in an instant. Byung-gyu wished to maintain the happiness amidst the cold climate, as well as keeping everyone from pain.

For the OC ask!! (This is more general than specific)
How did your first chosens react to...all of that lol. I'm just curious in what differences we have, aside from the general panic and not knowing wtf is going on lol
But like. Who got activated first? Which legend got caught first? Did they tell anyone outside of the three chosens? How did it affect the first chosens overall? I'm very curious!!
I'm gonna talk about the Hoenn and Johto gang for this one!
Starting with Jin, they were the one of the duo to be "looked after" by Rayquaza from the very beginning. Not that Jin knew of this. All they knew was that they loved looking at the sky on the beach near Olivine city in Johto. The first time they were ever aware they could have a potential connection with Rayquaza as a Chosen....was when they were drowning during the final act of Emerald. When they looked up, they saw a green light and a mighty roar that shook their core. This is actually something new that I'm adding when thinking about it: for a moment they were able to breathe, and with the help of their Milotic, they were able to swim close enough to the surface for Archie to save them. But that was when Jin knew they had a connection with the legendary Rayquaza. And it terrified them. Yes, it terrified them a lot. They grew to fear that dragon. So much so that they grew up to be pretty avoidant about the whole Chosen thing, only really involved because holy fucking shit there's more of them and all of them are younger than they are. But yeah, Jin isn't really close to their Chooser, but has some control over their powers. They weren't exactly thrilled to get them, but was too scared of what would happen if they went away. They've long since gotten used to them, using them for regional patrols and minor threats if needed.
In terms of who got to meet their legendary first( between the two) that would be Kohaku. I want to add more to this story, but for now I'm going by the game: Kohaku met Latios when Latias came to her and Steven to try and save her brother from Team Magma. After being saved by Kohaku, Latios ended up Choosing her, though the powers don't happen until much later. Again, I want to tweak this in the future, but that's how it goes. I don't think Amber was actually panicking when she found out she had powers. Probably because Latios had the decency to ease her into it, showing she can turn invisible without having to touch him( still workshopping those powers lol), but mostly due to her being a researcher. If anything, Amber was insanely curious and excited to look into the whole Chosen business, what she can and cannot do with her powers, etc. She's probably the reason Jin has some level of control with their powers, now that I think about it. The minute she found out they have powers, she dragged them to testing, which then resulted in training of powers.
Going to Johto, both Kenji and Aiko saw their respective Choosers in their youth. Kenji saw Ho-Oh flying across the sky one day, similar to Ash in the anime. Aiko saw Lugia on a boat trip gone bad in her youth, Lugia in the midst of a storm. Neither of them knew exactly what they saw, but they felt something when seeing them. They didn't know that they were Chosens then, and that they were seeing their legendaries for the first time.
I'm just gonna take a moment to say how hgss is really great Chosen fodder. Like you have the kimono girls, seemingly all knowing in the knowledge of Ho-Oh and Lugia, going out of their way to test Kenji and Aiko as Chosens, heck, even Professor Elm seemingly being in on it.
Anyway, going back tomorrow Kenji and Aiko. When Kenji was Chosen, he was beyond excited. He not only gets to be a hero by defeating team rocket and saving Johto, but also one with actual powers?! Heck yeah! Yes it's very childish on him to think that, but he was 10 at the time, cut him some slack. Really, his excitement came from a genuine place to help. He vowed then and there that he would use his powers for good, and make Ho-Oh proud. Funny how things work out, huh?
For Aiko, unlike Kenji, she was officially Chosen by Lugia ( I mean, she always was, but in a sense of meeting without any dangers), post game. She stayed in Johto with Silver to start her training with the Kimono girls, as well as preparing to meet Lugia. This whole thing is a way of having her and Silver bond, as well as character growth for the both of them. But ultimately, Aiko faced off with Lugia and caught them! Though she released them after realizing they were planning on having a kid. They still keep in touch though, especially as Aiko trains to take her Uncle Chuck's place as the fighting type gym leader ( which is conveniently near where Lugia rests). Lugia waited for Aiko to be a little older to give her her powers....cause an overenthusiastic 10 year old with a tiny bit of bloodlust probably shouldn't have the power to move waves and cause storms. Though, with age, and her training under the kimono girls, she became more serious about the matter. But she's still Aiko. She's gonna make her staff a swirling tycoon and throw it at her enemies and there's nothing you can do about it 😤
Beryl is funny because this whole journey was not what they were planning. They were planning to help Elm with his research without much fuss. They were not planning on suddenly being the older sibling to energetic and very angsty 10-11 year olds, while also fighting off the Mafia. So other than being in awe by the sight of Suicune, their first thought was " you know.....this might as well happen". And it did. My version of HGSS is pretty different than the original, with my goal making Team Rocket a bit more threatening, cause they don't feel like it. I get that's the point, but it's my au, I can do what I want and I want team rocket to be searching for Ho-Oh and Lugia, actually capture them, and Suicune calling Beryl to aid in the fight. Beryl doesn't capture Suicune, just since Suicune doesn't seem to want to get captured. Though, it's hard to say when they end up constantly around Beryl when Beryl told them to keep a low profile. Beryl is pretty sure Suicune is only doing it to spite them. As for powers, Beryl's first thought when getting them was "yeah, that checks". Almost nothing surprises them anymore. They are grateful though, since it's very useful for pokemon rehabilitation work, mainly for healing injured pokemon before getting better medical help. They do need water for it though.
When it came to telling others, I imagine that for a while, when there was no powers, they didn't really tell anyone. Cause what was there to tell? Legendary pokemon are still pokemon and so bonds are bound to happen, so it would be very hard to believe. When the powers started to kick in, however, was when they started telling people. Jin first told their mom, Archie and Maxie ( they were temporarily Cursed in my au),and ( reluctantly) Steven and Wallace. Their dad was the last person to know, due to angst/hj. Aiko immediately told her dad, being a pokemon professor, who was equally as fascinated by the concept. However, despite the very little knowledge all these people have on the subject, they all agreed it's best to keep it on the hush. Wallace and Zinnia ( who tbh, probably already knew but didn't say anything), are arguably the most adept in understanding Chosens, but still their knowledge is pretty limited.
Ho-Oh and Lugia urged Kenji and Aiko to not go blabbing their mouths on the Chosen stuff, which fortunately they didn't do. The only ones that are aware is Kenji's mom ( momma's boy), Aiko parents ( Elm was kinda involved from the start?), gym leader Chuck ( Aiko's uncle), Lance, Clair and Silver. Oh and Morty and Eusine, who are very useful in terms of trying to understand what's going on. The kimono girls already knew, they didn't have to be told.
I hope I answered your questions well! Sorry if I didn't!!!
