The Regrets of Journey to the West (2021)大话西游之遗憾
Picture: N/A Type: Costume Country/Region of Production: Mainland China Type: Retelling
Summary:
Five hundred years ago, Sun Wukong, the Bull Demon King, and the Jiao Demon King joined forces to cause trouble in the Heavenly Palace. After the failure of making trouble in the sky, the Bull Demon King and the Iron Fan Princess began to live in seclusion in the mountains and forests; the Jiao Demon King had no choice but to take refuge under the Dragon Prince and became a sea-turning general. Sun Wukong, on the other hand, was pinned down by the Buddha at the foot of Wuzhi Mountain. He could not get out at the bottom of the mountain for five hundred years. If he went out even a little bit, he would be electrocuted. Every once in a while, Monk Tang would go to the cave to chant sutras and educate Sun Wukong, hoping to guide Sun Wukong to do good. However, Sun Wukong was tortured quite a lot because of his rambling words. Until later, Tang Monk mentioned that Sun Wukong still needs to go through a love tribulation...
By chance, he met Dengwick Ha Yi who playfully escaped from the Buddha's hands. Only then did they realize that they had crossed paths five hundred years ago. When Sun Wukong was causing havoc in the Heavenly Palace, he once lamented the beauty of Ha Yi, who was still a candle at that time. Ha Yi is innocent, cute, and inexperienced in worldly affairs. She is full of freshness about everything and chatters every day, but Sun Wukong does not find it annoying. In order to escape from Wuzhishan as soon as possible, Sun Wukong told Ha Yi that he had fallen deeply in love with her. Ha Yi started to pick a few peaches for Sun Wukong to eat every day, and also liked to buy some novel gadgets from the market. The two began a sweet life. Sun Wukong has a secret crush on Ha Yi, but he doesn't realize it, thinking that he is just lying to Ha Yi. When they were playing around that day, Ha Yi said that she wanted to kiss Sun Wukong, but Sun Wukong subconsciously avoided it, and then told a lie to avoid it without noticing Ha Yi's loss.
Ha Yi went out and met the Dragon Girl. It turned out that the Dragon Prince and the Jiao Demon King had a grudge against Sun Wukong because of their previous entanglements. They had always wanted to get rid of Sun Wukong. After learning about the relationship between Sun Wukong and Ha Yi, they sent the Dragon Girl to explore the relationship between them. Dragon Girl told Ha Yi that if a man doesn't want to kiss you, it means he doesn't love you. Ha Yi was deceived by the Dragon Girl and went to the Dragon Palace.
After Sun Wukong realized that Ha Yi was missing, he began to lose his mind. He suddenly realized that he loved Ha Yi deeply and wanted to go out to find Ha Yi. His former friend, the Bull Demon King, came over for a drink and comforted Sun Wukong, saying that maybe Ha Yi had changed her mind and returned to the Buddha to work as a wick, so it was better to let Ha Yi be free. Sun Wukong realized his previous mistake and was ready to give up the idea of chasing Ha Yi.
But later, Dragon Girl took the things of Ha Yi's and told Sun Wukong that Ha Yi was in their hands. If they wanted Ha Yi to survive, they should come to the Dragon Palace. Sun Wukong withstood the lightning strike from Wuzhishan Mountain and almost died. Moved his former friends, the Bull Demon King and the Jiao Demon King. The Dragon King and Prince set up an ambush in the Dragon Palace, planning to kill Sun Wukong and then claim credit from heaven. The war between Sun Wukong's demon clan and the dragon clan was about to break out. At this moment, all the demon clan brothers began to kill each other. Sun Wukong was shocked, and the Jiao Demon King ran to the Dragon Prince to perform meritorious deeds. The Dragon Prince laughed, Sun Wukong said that the Jiao Demon King betrayed me today, and he could betray you tomorrow! At this moment, the Jiao Demon King struck a heavy blow at the Dragon Prince. It turns out that as early as the beginning, when the Jiao Demon King realized that Sun Wukong was no longer the same Sun Wukong, he had already changed his mind, and then they designed this game-within-a-game together. However, the Dragon King Prince still shot a cold arrow at Sun Wukong and then ran away. In order to save Sun Wukong, Ha Yi was killed by the Dragon Prince. Sun Wukong was temporarily occupied by hatred, began to absorb the electricity in his body, and began to become powerful and violent.
The Dragon Prince breaks off the Dragon Girl's horns to help himself escape. Before Dragon Girl died, she began to remember what she once told Ha Yi, if a man doesn't want to kiss you, then he doesn't love you. The dragon girl smiled bitterly and asked herself, if a man is willing to kiss you, does he definitely love you?
Sun Wukong finally killed the Dragon Prince, but Ha Yi could never come back. His friend Bull Demon King brought a bowl of Meng Po soup to forget everything...
After experiencing all this, Sun Wukong finally understood the Buddha's teachings: Only when you have experienced obsession can you let go of it; only when you have experienced love and hate can you get rid of love and hate. Sun Wukong voluntarily put on the golden fillet, took the golden staff made of the Dinghai Divine Needle, and began to learn scriptures from Tang Monk from the West. Only occasionally would he think of the afternoon when he pushed Ha Yi away. It turned out that the good times in the past had finally passed, and he had to shoulder his responsibilities. Sun Wukong took on the task of accompanying Tang Monk to obtain the Western Scriptures.

“My savior… Most cherished thing… I shall be your armor… And you - my temple, Worthy of devoted guard.”
This's one of the older WIPs I have in my album and a first truly mixed media picture I have finished in years (making sketches on paper as a base for future fully colored pieces do not count). A scene is somewhat "AU-ish" but it still represents the tone of events of JCA story it's taken from. Events where an OC Jiao has to face the consequences of decisions she made in hopes of aiding her newfound family. And Tarakudo, being a true gentleman that he is, doesn't shy from making a clear demonstration of mistakes a woman made.
Original image can be found below the cut. I was surprisingly satisfied by my experiment with a "coloring technique" I used here - adding hues and shadows by drawing lines with pens instead of markers (coloring by hatching if you will). It is not a perfect result by any means, but certainly smt which suits my style of drawing (if you look at my gallery, you'll get what I mean). I'll definitely try to use this technique more in the future.

What if after Peaches has her 8 kids she gets killed by the celestial realm or something, and there's nothing the Sun family can do but wait for their mother/wife to be reincarnated, which leads to the whole 'Monkey King meeting his Peaches again after hundreds of years due to MK' situation? How would that situation change with the babies being around, desperate to see their mama?
Sorry for the multiple asks! Feel free to ignore them if it's too much or uninteresting.
oh man. that'd be an awkward family reunion, considering she won't remember any of them.
also the destruction wukong would cause to the celestial realm after they murk his wife? astronomical. and his first three kids are old enough by then to join in, and they do so eagerly.
so to start, the sun kids are all basically grown by the time wukong finds mk, with seventh and eighth being around ten years old in demon age. the siblings more or less welcome the new addition with open arms, though some more than others.
mk grows up surrounded by siblings, and oddly enough, is better adjusted socially because of it? while the influence of some of them may be questionable (cough second third fifth cough), for the most part his family is his safe place. he'd probably be a smidgen less dependent on his friends because of it. he's also less defensive and scared than the version of him without siblings.
however, the subject of their mama is one that mk is woefully left out of. he never got to meet the original reader, and his siblings (except hua and chāo, who were a bit too small to remember her clearly) don't talk about her much. mk has gotten jūn and zíhào to talk about her a little bit, but da xia just gets defensive and refuses to entertain the subject. xīnyi also deflects whenever reader comes up. the only ones willing to give mk any sort of backstory are jiāo hui and xuě fēng. those two, along with hua and chāo, are his closest friends.
in the case of mk going to the human world, i imagine wukong being slightly less reluctant to let mk go, if only because he knows that jūn, jiao hui, and xuě fēng hang around the city as well, so mk would have support. wukong would still make mandatory home visits though, since he knows his kids might not be telling him the whole truth when they report on their baby brother.
as for the event of meeting reader; wukong almost cries, seeing her again. his first interaction with her new incarnation is...softer, more subdued. reader feels a little bad for him. he seems so withdrawn, he must miss his son. she's less suspicious of him because of his attitude.
wukong doesn't know what to tell his children. their mother is reborn, but she isn't their mother anymore. she won't know any of them. he doesn't want to put them through the pain of seeing her if she can't greet each of them knowing who they are.
however.
there might be a way to reawaken his wife and mother of his children. she still exists in the soul inhabiting this new body, he just needs to bring her back to the forefront of their consciousness. he'll tear apart heaven and earth looking for a way.
cue angst and fear, and a fun time for mk trying to keep reader a secret from his more volatile siblings. zíhào, da xia, and xīnyi would likely just kidnap reader for their father if they knew, thinking, similarly to him, that they can bring back the spirit of their mother.
also, macaque has been freed by now (it may or may not have been jūn and xuě fēng who removed the seal on his mountain), and is close friends with reader. in this case, jūn warns macaque of his father's plan to try and bring back the previous reader, so he has more time to plan on how he's gonna save her.
macaque has missed the smile on reader's face, her jokes, her sass...she's much like she was when they were on the journey together. he doesn't want her new, free incarnation to have to live as a prisoner to the monkey king's sick idea of love.
he failed her all those centuries ago. he won't fail her again.
....
(also, the reason none of the other kids can weild a magic staff, but mk can; half humanity. at least that's what wukong figures it is. his kids are all almost as strong as him, so that can't be why they can't lift it. must be magical bullshit, he thinks.)
#the royal sun children#bad end mk#this got long#i had a lot of thoughts for this one#bad end wukong

Lily liveblogs: Thunderbolt Fantasy 4x04, "Spectacular Showdown"
This episode has everything.
we open with Ba Wang Yu eating a giant chicken han jiao wing on a stick. look. you have me right there. I would watch an entire episode of demon meshi "fireside cooking with ba wang yu".
"Mantis" turns up and she even offers him a piece!!! Ba Wang yu is so great.
it turns out her powers allow her to draw strength from the foes she consumes, even more so than normal, hence why she's so devoted to eating and I love it.
"Mantis" goes to poke Spider, who is super-into choking people with chains, but just has to brag to his junior about how he knows Locust's true identity, hahaha
meanwhile, cyborg grandpa's rampage continues.... but our own beloved mad scientist grandpa USES HIS CANE AS A POGO STICK to flip into a cave and comes out with a goddamn mech, I am LIVING
thunderbolt fantasy truly means never having to say you're making it up and god bless
I joked about this last episode, but I didn't think they'd actually do it, but they did and it's AWESOME. new levels of puppetry achieved.
I thought cyborg grandpa was also going to transform into a mech or reveal a cool new feature of his robot arm, but instead he isekai's everybody to the demon realm and dies just at the moment his life's wish is granted because even minor characters are not immune to dramatic irony. GO OFF KING.
chao feng gets slammed to the ground and her officer guy is having a freakout, meanwhile Tian Ming gets caught by the mech and gently lowered to the ground.
chao feng is learning the hard way why daddy always delegates, lololol
meanwhile, Lang is cornered by Jia Li and forced to choose again between human and demon, blah blah blah. Ling Ya is like "are you sure?? you're leaving your friends behind" and Lang's like "do it" and then they do, RIP Jia Li.
Xing Hai gives Lang a token from her corpse and tells him that he's won her respect.
Lang: "your approval fills me with shame."
Azibelpher: "are ya winning, son?"
Tian Ming and Chao Feng both hear Lang's screaming as he powers-up yet again and perk up, haahahahaha
so Tian Ming and Chao Feng are going to have to work together to survive (or at least Chao Feng is going to have to pay lip service to the concept)... oh, this is gonna be good
in the wasteland of spirits, Shang, Dan Fei and Juan Can Yun are in a sandstorm and the kids are tired and Shang's like, "no, come on, we gotta keep going"
anyway, let us just appreciate the irony of ling ya saying they'd leave shang and tian ming behind only for the latter to turn up, and it's only a matter of time before Shang joins them.
next episode: demon court intrigue!!! new characters!! YESSS!!!
if it seems like I'm not saying very much, it's because words cannot properly convey the experience; some things you just have to observe for yourself
strong contender for the most enjoyable media experience I've had all year... at least until the next episode.

I love your au! It is one of my favorites since not many people tend to include Investiture of Gods and how this possibly affected Erlang (but I also understand why bc Investiture of Gods has many chapters, and there is only one or two English versions of the book). but I wanted to ask, what Erlang stories are canon in your AU? Since myths tend to have many versions and Erlang has a role in Investiture of Gods as well as in Lotus Lantern. Just curious!
Thank you!! I struggle a lot with remembering details of the book but I genuinely try my best to add in what I can because I love how Erlang’s character is more than “HAHA I WANT TO FIGHT THAT MONKEY GUY” and although the movies aren’t always accurate either I like to watch them just in case
What stories are canon…
Well because of the timeline in this LEGO Monkie Kid AU you’d think Lotus Lantern wouldn’t be canon but it is, with that being one of the major reasons why Erlang and SWK’s relationship is so strained throughout the rest of the AU (something about imprisoning your brother in arms and then your blood sister… ough)
I wanted to do more research on Erlang’s myths but iirc he also freed? Accidentally? The Demon Bull King and another demon because he shot the demon revealing mirror while drunk with Nezha. And I wanted that to be one of the reasons why DBK is out so early in the AU
What else… he had a brother (Yang Jiao) and when the Jade Emperor sent his armies to capture his family only him and his sister, Yang Chan, survived. It’s also why he has such a grudge against the Jade Emperor in my fanfic Boy Savior, the prologue to the AU
I love studying this dude and I LOVE his change of wanting to be loyal to Heaven to leaving Heaven entirely

Lie Huo Jiao Chou review (spoiler free) by Priest:
This gorgeous gorgeous novel has two main settings: one 3,000 years ago when the war between humans and demons was at its peak, and the other in modern times when a few old heros and villains were dug out from their graves to finish off what was started all those thousands of years ago. The main setting is the modern one, and the ancient setting shows up in flashbacks.
Two amnesic lovers who never even got to confess their feelings 3,000 years ago happen to meet again. Is it fate? Just a coincidence? Or perhaps a planned scheme by certain someones? They dont even recognize each other anymore, after all those centuries. While one of them was just forcefully pulled out of their coffin to go on a mass killing spree, the other materialized out of thin air on a random day 10 years ago, in an abyss of flames, with no past memories or even a name. Sounds intriguing, right?
To be honest, the two of them gave me major mo ran and chu wanning vibes. Like the chemistry and their dynamics were almost too similar. Except imagine it was chu wanning who was forced to become the evil emperor while mo ran remained a passionate and kindhearted devoter who wouldnt harm a single human. Perhaps, that’s what kept me hooked despite the extreme slow burn (i mean the romance only turns reciprocal in ch90 out of 145😭) ((priest seriously is a master of slowburns and edging ok)). Nevertheless, once the romance gets going, oh boy does it get KICKING. Priest just KNOWS how to hit all the right spots especially after taking her sweet sweet time laying out the base.
Next, the plot: While definitely not as excellent as Mo Du or Can Ci Pin, it’s still definitely on par with Sha Po Lang and Guardian (actually it gave me major guardian vibes), and definitely far superior to Lord 7 and Faraway Wanderers (this is my personal opinion on my personal post please dont come for me). It’s intricate, detailed, well crafted, and i love how everything always ties up at the end, with no loopholes left here or there. Priest will introduce a lot of mysteries that will keep you on edge, then proceed to slowly untangle them with you one by one until everything starts to make sense. You’ll be sent along with the characters on quests exploring ancient tombs, digging out dead kings and demons, attempting to prevent natural catastrophes, covering things up as earthquakes and tsunamis, all while working overtime cleaning up a mess that dates back to 3,000 years ago. And everytime you think it’s over, a new plot twist lands and all hell breaks loose once more. It was definitely a thriller, and it was almost impossible for me to put down the novel without reaching the end of each arc first.
No idea why everyone’s sleeping on this gem. i mean xuan ji has WINGS OF FLAME ok all the fanarts are just beautiful 😭😭😭. If not for the plot then at least read this novel for Sheng Lingyuan’s hair and Xuan Ji’s wings ok.

the missing sixth sword brother
Do you know how in the novel Sun Wukong has six sworn brothers, well, something I realized
The demon bull king:
Macaque king:
lion-camel king:
Peng demon king:
I think it Yellowtusk could be snub-nosed king:
but what about jiao demon king, well
What if the jiao demon king was the first of the brotherhood to attack Monkey King? It could be for some reason attacking both SWK and Macaque probably during journey to the west
I have a couple of theories will be share later

Lily liveblogs: Thunderbolt Fantasy 4x05, "The Demon Court Nobles"
"Have fun storming the castle!"
picking up from where we left off last week with the road trip through the Wasteland of Spirits and Juan Can Yun and Dan Fei asking "Are we there yet?"
Shang: Don't make me turn this expedition around!
they want to stop and rest in a crevasse and Shang thinks this is a bad idea but they do it anyway
they are attacked by evil vines and NOPE it back out into the sandstorm, lololol
Wasteland of Spirits is Tatooine from Star Wars, confirmed
I don't know why Shang thought he could just let these kids go off by themselves, thank goodness he got smacked by plot or else they'd be toast.
meanwhile, in the demon realm, Chao Feng's sole surviving officer freaks out and runs off... straight into a han jiao's mouth and is devoured on camera with lots of blood and gore. OM NOM NOM.
Chao Feng also freaks the fuck out, but is saved by Mu Tian Ming. When Chao Feng asks why, she's like, "I dunno, seemed like a good idea at the time". beautiful cinnamon roll, too good for this world, too pure.
Instead of thanking her, Chao Feng yells at Tian Ming for taking Lang away and says it's all her fault; Tian Ming does not slap her across the face, but says that that might be true if Lang came here by chance, but she thinks he has a purpose. AND SHE'S RIGHT.
I hope Chao Feng has a redemption arc, but I fear for the worst for Lang and Tian Ming and everybody else as soon as she finds herself on more solid ground. (you just know Azibelpher will LOVE her scheming little mind)
The Order of the Divine Swarm arrives at Azibelpher's castle and Ba Wang Yu decides to storm the gates while Hua Wu Zong turns invisible and slips inside in the chaos. Lin, disguised as Piao Miao, opts to wait outside and watch.
this pays off when Xing Hai shows up with Lang and he immediately switches back to his normal form to surprise them.
Lin immediately picks up that Lang is part demon (the horn kinda gave it away, lol) and turns him temporarily invisible so he can sneak into the castle. He then turns his attention to charming exposition out of Xing Hai and plays her like a damn fiddle.
elsewhere, Ansaato is skittering around the Demon Court on his little insect legs (complete with sound effects) and is pissed that Azibelpher is early for their meeting (and apparently in the flesh???)
the other nobles show up, including Parasol Lady my beloved, but unfortunately, we don't get a good sense of their personalities in their brief back and forth. Other demons include: Covid Safety Protocols (wears a mask); Megamind (turban, big head); and Blue Enforcer of the Status Quo. I thought Megamind was going to be an evil advisor based on his character design, but he's just a guy, I guess??? At least there's nothing much to distinguish him here.
the demon king is a shadowy figure hidden behind a screen and HMMM THAT SEEMS FAMILIAR WHERE HAVE I SEEN THAT ONE BEFORE, but he's got a new VA, so he's probably not somebody we already know. Probably.
(can you tell I'm still scarred from last season's reveal, lol)
turns out that the statue macguffins are seals that allow you to summon demon gods if you get a quorum (4). There are 8 total, one for each demon noble and the king.
everybody is freaked out that Jia Li is dead and her seal is missing. Azi plays innocent, lol.
Lin finds all this out from Xing Hai, so he'll probably start collecting them now because thieves gonna thieve. Lang is also collecting them, but he's the only one at this point who doesn't know what they do, and this is probably all part of Azi's plan to awaken the demon gods and start the War of the Fading Dusk in earnest.
[look, if you put a sleeping demon god in the first episode, it had damn well better wake up by the last episode, I'm just saying].
also Lin has decided to torment Xing Hai by speculating he might be a demon, too because he's not affected by the demon realm the way a normal human should be.
he's trolling, obviously, but it's funny because he uses the same phrase Shang does: "no matter what anyone chooses to call me, it doesn't matter because I know who I am"
I've said this before and I'll say it again: Shang and Lin are opposites, complements, parallels, and foils, and also archetypal, and this extends to their backstories as well, which means it's unlikely that we'll see parents for either of them.
Xing Hai is objectively speaking a terrible person but I feel so bad for her because her shitty kind-of ex being a demon would solve a lot of problems for her because demons are supposed to be shitty to each other. So she's actually really into this, and while nothing Lin says is an outright lie, it certainly isn't the full truth.
{Xing Hai being in love with Lin is mostly subtext in the show itself, but it's in the light novel, and also there is a delightful series of social media posts where she fantasizes about what to do with him when he's theoretically under Seven Blasphemous Death's control and one of them is marrying him in a Western-style wedding with Azibelpher as the minister. And even then they're STILL not the most toxic het couple in the show by a wide margin!!!!}
meanwhile, Ba Wang Yu murders everybody and walks into the castle and Lin tells Xing Hai that Azibelpher isn't there because otherwise some would have stayed back to defend their master.
[this is why Azi was at the meeting early, lol]
Cut to Lang Wu Yao wandering around the empty castle, only for Spider to sneak up on him with chains, believing him to be Azibelpher.
.... you know what, he's not exactly wrong, Lang really does resemble his dad and the portraits are everywhere because Azibelpher lives in a gothic castle and has decorated accordingly
I really hope Wasp and Spider team up with Lang since they all hate Azibelpher, because the alternative is that Lang kills both of them next episode and I want to keep them around for as long as possible.
this episode is so fucking funny and I laughed so hard, twenty minutes just FLEW by, can't wait for next week

❀ ˎˊ- prompt: jiaoqiu had been content to quietly love you as your best friend, but his patience gets tested when he sees an IPC outlander blatantly ignore your boundaries. ❀ ˎˊ- jiaoqiu x gn!reader ❀ ˎˊ- wc: 816 ❀ ˎˊ- warnings: implied sexual harassment but like its vague asf u dont even know what ipc bro did ❀ ˎˊ- a/n: jiaoqiu makes another ipc man shit himself. i think this should be a running joke because honestly? i think its the funniest thing ever. you go king. do a crime. i support you. ❀ ˎˊ- taglist: @sh0jun , @themoderatelyawesomeninja , @xphantasmagoriax , @rainswept , @lucensei , @akutasoda , @naraven , @scribs-dibs , @apathicace ❀ ˎˊ- img credits
It’s not often that Jiaoqiu scares you.
You’ve known him for a while after all. While he can be rather mischievous and, admittedly, sadistic, at his core Jiaoqiu is a soft-hearted individual who cares deeply for his friends and coworkers.
You know Jiaoqiu would never hurt you, nor would he ever intend to. The most he’d ever resort to was a petty prank or a swift smack of his fan to your face if he was especially exasperated.
You know this, but the way Jiaoqiu’s currently gripping his knife and dismembering mushrooms with a spiteful fervor makes you keep a safe distance away from him.
“Jiao-ge -” You flinch as his head nearly cracks at a 90-degree-angle. “Sorry. Uh, I know you like spice and all, but- isn’t that a little too much, even for you?”
Jiaoqiu smiles coldly. “Nonsense. There is no such thing as ‘too much spice’. Besides, I’m sure our little ambassador-” there’s a venomous bite in his voice at that word, “-can handle at least this much.”
You glance at the bubbling hotpot that’ll soon be served to the IPC ambassador in a few minutes. It looks like something that was vomited by a demon that had crawled up from the deepest parts of hell. The bubbles that pop and burst in a vicarious red are almost menacing in their behavior.
A sigh leaves you.
“Gege-” you shake your head, placing a hand to your temple, “-I know you’re angry, but he’s still a guest. We have to treat him with the respect he deserves.”
“Who said I was angry?” Jiaoqiu slams the knife’s blade into the final mushroom with a thud, without so much as a single glance away from you. “All I am doing is giving our dear guest a taste of traditional Yaoqing cuisine.”
“Uh-huh.” You deadpan. “Is that why you’re throwing in ghost peppers too? You do realize that we’re also going to have to eat this, right? As does Feixiao.”
“Feixiao can handle it, as can you.”
“But he can’t.”
For a sliver of a second, Jiaoqiu’s eyes peek open, revealing a slit pupil in a cold topaz gem. Their corners crinkle slightly as his smile grows with sinister glee. With a flick of his ears, he gives you a look before returning to his preparation.
He moves on from the mushrooms and begins slicing apart the meat to be used in the hotpot, this time with a much gentler and more controlled motion. Deciding that it was now safe (or at least, safer) to approach, you take a few tentative steps towards the silently seething Foxian.
“Listen- I’m not happy about the way he treated me either,” you start, cautiously putting a hand on his shoulder. “But this is a matter of diplomacy. Tricks like these…”
“Calling this a ‘trick’ makes it sound like a childish prank,” Jiaoqiu interrupts. “When in reality, it is a lesson. Folks like him won’t learn unless they’re forced to, you know.”
You roll your eyes. “You mean you just want to see him in pain for your own sense of justice.”
He chuckles.
“Who knows?”
“Why are you so worked up about this anyways?” Leaning your face onto his shoulder, Jiaoqiu’s hair tickles at your face as you idly watch him prepare the meat. “It’s unlike you to be so... spiteful. You know he’ll be out of our hair by tomorrow.”
Behind you, you feel the fluff of his tail as it sways in agitation.
“It goes without saying that I hate seeing you be treated like that,” says Jiaoqiu after a brief moment of silence. “And the way that you’re expected to simply stand there and- take it, it infuriates me. Being forced to watch you suffer and not being able to do anything about it is - quite frankly, it’s one of the worst feelings in the world.”
He heaves a heavy sigh. Frustration bleeds into his tone, and yet his voice is gentler, softer. His tail comes up to touch your waist tenderly, before he lets it drop back to its natural position.
“I care about you.” It’s a simple sentence, but it’s the way Jiaoqiu says it that makes you feel as if it is more, so much more than just that. “You know that you’re one of the most important people in my life.”
He turns his head, and presses it to yours fleetingly. His hand stills, knife paused in the glistening meat.
“So let me do this small favor for you, hm?”
“Small favor?” you snort, shaking your head against him. “You call giving a foreign ambassador a nearly lethal dose of chili a ‘small favor’?”
“Please, this is nothing.” Jiaoqiu lifts his head and returns to the cutting board. “If it eases your mind, I’ve decided to half the dosage of laxatives in his tea to compensate for the spice.”
You blink.
“You halved what?”

Xci Nicco is actually a runt harpy, despite her harpy form being 7'5" or so.
Knowing this, her species completely disregards her. Constantly making fun of her height.
When Hua Jiao's side of the family found out about this, they were honestly flabbergasted, because 7'5" is really tall!
What do you think Hua Jiao's side of the family said to Xci Nicco's adoptive harpy parents after disregarding her and disowning her after they found out she married the Demon Bull King's grandchild?
DBK and PIF have both experienced being disowned by their families and communities, so they would def jump to comfort Xci Nicco + chew out her adoptive harpy parents for their treatment of her. That their grand-in-law after all!
Mac and Wukong have also experienced being "other" in their communities, so they would sympathise with Xci Nicco being considered a runt harpy.
And you know if MK and Red heard the harpies disregarding Xci Nicco, there would be a lot of burnt feathers. Even if their feelings on Xci Nicco and Hua Jiao being together isn't 100% chill, they still recognise the Harpy as a pretty great ally.
Overall: "Your loss. Our harpy family member now."

2. Puppet AU
Synopsis: One day the Monkie Kid Crew; Sun Wukong; Macaque, and DBK family are all at Pigsy's Noodles when Macaque gets a message on the wind. His master is coming for him after all these years and he must return to Jiao Mo Wang, The Flood Dragon King and The Great Sage Overturning the Sea.

LMK AU's I intend to write at some point:
1. Bakery AU - More Slice-of-life than action/adventure. Follows Macaque after being resurrected by Lady Bone Demon and her General, The Mayor.
Synopsis: Instead of Macaque throwing the key away and going after Sun Wukong, he instead convinces LBD and her lackey to let him recuperate so he can create them both new bodies with shadow magic and effectively make them both Celestial Primates. He does this, but adds a caveat that he can't be harmed by what is basically his own magic. He then takes off to Europe with the two new adolescent Celestial monkeys in tow. After a few hundred years of odd jobs, Macaque meets a woman Lin Moniang (Mazu), who helps run a lighthouse and whose older brothers run a bakery. After falling in love with her, Macaque; LBD and The Mayor all assist with the bakery.
Character Names:
The Six Earred Macaque - Renamed Zao Yueliang
The Ancient Lady White Bone Demon - Renamed Qiao Guniang
The Mayor - Renamed Wudan
Secondary Character Names:
Lin Mei (Beautiful Forest) - Macaque and Moniang's eldest. In canon, she would have been LBD's host.
Lei Sheng Paishou (Thunder Clap) - Known as Rumble in the playsets. The eldest of Macaque and Moniang's twins.
Shandian (Lightening Bolt) - Known as Savage in the playsets. The youngest of Macaque and Moniang's twins.
Characters Possibly Only Mentioned by Name:
Lin Moniang - A shamaness turned sea goddess, and protector of sailors. Her Red Light Lantern compliments Macaque's Shadow Lantern
Lin Tingjue - Moniang's "brother", a powerful demon who can hear for great distances. He likes baking savory pastries and breads.
Lin Yankan - Moniang's "brother", a powerful demon who can see for great distances. He likes baking sweet treats.
MK/Xiaotian - The Monkie Kid, Sun Wukong's successor.
Chef Zhu/Pigsy - Owner of Pigsy's Noodles, MK's boss, and reluctant (and somewhat incompetent father figure)
Tang Sanzang - A teacher of myths and legends at Megapolis University and a frequent "customer" at Pigsy's Noodles
Mei Long - MK's best friend and partner in crime
Sandy and Mo - Pigsy's old friend and his therapy cat
Sun Wukong - The Monkey King.
Guanyin - Goddess of Mercy
Erlang Shen - A General in Heaven's Army and the Jade Emporer's nephew
Nezha -
Demon Bull King - Otherwise known by his friends and enemies alike as DBK
Princess Iron Fan - Otherwise known as PIF, she is DBK's super scary wife
Redson - DBK and PIF's heir and only child
Spider Queen - A female spider demon. She is the oldest of her sisters.
Changed Spider Queen's Retinue. All, but Syntax, are female now.
Wood Spider (taking the place of Huntsman) - A female spider demon, the second eldest and second in command. She helps SQ with her plans even when she thinks they're a bit too far-fetched.
Joro (taking the place of Strong Spider) - A female spider demon whose thinness belies her strength in combat against the Monkie Kids
Phantom Spider - A female spider demon with an attitude. She's SQ's chosen heir. She has a one-sided attraction to MK.
Syntax - The only male spider "demon". He used to be a human scientist that worked for SQ, but had the loquid mutagen he'd developed for SQ and his Spider-bots turned on him. He's smaller and weaker than any of the girls. Joro and Wood take great delight "teasing" about eating him.
How close to canon!LMK, on a scale of 1 to 10; with 1 being not very canon, is this? Depending on length: short one or two chapters, it's at best a 2. If I write it out all the way, it's an 8.5 with Spider Queen and DBK being the primary antagonists.
