tell us your jeverus thoughts
Ahhhh there's so many of them anon,,,
For one, it's interesting how much these two somehow obsess over one another.
By logic and the way the book and movies would want to portray it, Sev should've kept on referencing Lily (though this isn't a good point because he does quietly live on and take care of Harry to atone for his mistakes that costed Lily's friendship and life), but instead he kept droning on about how Harry is just like his father. The image of James kept on haunting him and he didn't let the memories died out and move on from it, much like he did the memories of him and Lily. Like one comment I randomly read in a YouTube video said, Sev's "you're just like your father" is like seeing a bitter, divorced single mother chastising their child for acting up 😂
Meanwhile on the other side, like people I've seen around pointing, I do not get why James is so attached to bullying Severus in particular (especially baffling when he told Lily he's mean to Sev just because he existed, like? boy? care to explain yourself?) If he did hate dark arts and magic, he should've go against crueler Slytherins like Mulciber and Avery that 'deserved it' far more than this weird, quiet, friendless, poor half-blood that just likes to read and chill at the lake. Like seriously, the start of SWM is just him reading his book after the DADA test, completely alone, but James immediately zeroed in on him, like why??? If he did it for Lily's sake, his own jealousy and possessiveness, then by logic he should've stopped the moment Lily finally accepted his courting. He shouldn't have gone behind Lily's back and still exchange hexes with the guy who called Lily a slur. The way it's portrayed and written in the book made it feel like James is having an affair and it's never not funny to me
Overall, it's really interesting to dive in and read more into their strange relationship past 'popular rich bully vs poor weird kid'.
I don't know why Sev didn't put Sirius as his most hated person when this guy almost killed him.
I don't know why James is obsessed with tormenting Sev when actual mini DEs are out there 'bullying' kids with cruel hexes.
Thinking about them and their thoughts about eachother is so fun to me <3 had James been alive, would he still try to chase after his dear ol' Sniv and pull on his pigtails some more, or actually move on with his life?
#txt#ask#jeverus thought (one thought)#i havent read the whole series yet but planning to when there's time#but even from the movies i was already weirded out on why sev keeps alluding to james lmao#and the “who want me to take off snivellus' trousers” line before james smirked was like??? why did he immediately go there#rather than to just... chuck him in the lake or keep him dangling in the air/stuck up the tree? ruin his book?#can james just be normal... can these potters just be normal

Why's Jeverus and Prongsfoot so rare as James centric enemies to lovers and friends to lovers ships? I never thought about it till now.
Community, timing, style of shipping.
Prongsfoot got a lot of its framework in book 5, two and a half years after book 4, where Wolfstar was already locked in (after being so strongly established in book 3). James was dead and had a wife already, while Wolfstar was alive, single, and living together. Even upon reading in full in current day, Wolfstar is going to be the first thing for one to react to as the first pair of adult men the same age we're meant to root for.
Jeverus didn't lock in until book 7, at the very end, where we learn the bullying was sexual jealousy and there was a mutual obsession at play here. Snape's involvement in Lily gave him guaranteed proximity to James, who is fixated on him because he's standing next to Lily and is ugly about it...You know. Also, most fans start out strongly disliking Snape, and it's a crapshoot on whether the procession of the story is enough to change their minds. For people who do like Snape, their affection often begins because they find the bullying so horrible, so they're not going to give him to James. The 3rd faction is Alan Rickman fans, who prefer to use a character who functions as reader insert to romance him as their own personal Heathcliff.
So the fandom is rapidly approaching 30 years old. Often, you'll find a fandom has common ships where everyone just ships it out of a compulsive need to participate with others. Even after the tendency dies down and other ships gain prominence, you'll still see vestigial trends. Wolfstar gained fucking immortality. Why would you break up Wolfstar and Jily, the Best Ships? They're all paired up!
Do you remember ship wars? Because I remember ship wars. Your cast being neatly paired up used to be best case scenario. Nowadays people don't even use "OTP".
Not to mention they're teenagers and Harry is born a mere 3 years post-grad, so a lot of the most popular enemies to lovers tropes have almost no room to breathe. Sooooo much Drarry is post-war, I remember being on FFnet before the books finished coming out and it was still so much post-war. In the MIDDLE of a war? When James is married weirdly young? Doth our angel CHEAT? IN A WAR?
It's important, then, that Jegulus was a bunch of brand new fans taking the piss. There became a community of taking the piss. Good fics happened. They chatted about their joke fic getting good fics. Everyone wants to be in on the joke. Community is formed. When asked "what's a good gay ship for my boy James", their instinctive reaction will be "well I'm in on this little joke..." I like to lurk on Marauders fandom like an anthropologist and they're doing this exact process to Gilderat right now.
Not to mention Regulus characterization is reconstructed to fit the circumstances; he's a quiet black cat softboy who's beautifully tortured, and he's often presented as a brief relationship James has before Lily, as Lily doesn't date him until like, 6th/7th year, so we got a cross-section of "best friend's brother" trope, black cat/golden retriever, tortured Slytherin boy, sports rivals (seeker/chaser), forbidden love, breakup angst, Regulus isn't related to Lily at all so their wires don't get crossed, and Regulus isn't publicly a friend of James so it's actually possible to cleanly break them up so Jily can function.
Most importantly, people actually like Regulus, and Regulus is 1000x more susceptible to Draco in Leather Pants characterization than Snape, who's glazing trends towards the gothic and byronic, not the dark academia sensitive flower having a moral crisis. It's a very lovingly set playground, and steals attributes from other ships to make a more generically appealing whole vs the other two James dynamics going on here. People accuse Regulus of stealing Snape's personality, but in reality he is stealing a truly galling amount of Sirius' tropes (everything BUT his personality), and honestly I think people underestimate the dramatic potential of Regulus being the one malding over James dating the brother who he hadn't been able to connect with, because the malding is utterly hopeless, and the tragedy hurts worse, and the Wolfstar hits like a home run when Lupin is the dick grayson or whatever the hell that guy from ATYD's name was in this relationship picking up the pieces.
Can I say bad taste? I'll also say bad taste.
#asks#you must also remember snupin was the OG of the once-tiny marauders era fandom before book 5 re-calibrated it all.#i willingly consumed marauders content (which i didnt like) to access more snupin until snirius knocked my head off my shoulders#i dont like remembering this was like 18 years ago because it turns me into the cryptkeeper.

oh....oh but i haven't considered the sick fics. OHHHHHH BUT I HAVEN'T CONSIDERED THE SICK FICS.
first thought? hanahaki disease. MHMMMM I'M THINKING. i'm thinking james who's always watching snily - in whatever iteration - and he's so fucking consumed by them. he's so JEALOUS. he's so annoyed about the fact he's been doing everything he can to get lily and This Guy???? this guy gets her??? nah. he's fuming. he's jealous. he's going insan-
awh :( a petal :( he has hanahaki disease
then you have some fun things of:
james assuming it's lily so the first bit of the story is him trying to convince her that he's sick and this isn't a prank but she doesn't believe him because it's so early but he can't leave it too long or it won't be reversible!! he's panicking !!!
he goes to the marauders for help and they team up to save james. how? any way they can.
then eventually, james gets too sick to deny and lily mhm yah smooch
oh :(( ohhhhh no it doesn't work because the whole point is that feelings have to be reciprocated and they haven't, for want of a better word, blossomed yet
WABAM! jeverus
didn't work because he was rarely looking at lily. she was rarely the part of snily he was looking at, no his eyes alwaysss drifted a bit. and now he's given up because he's like omg >:( it's snape! how will i ever convince snape to like me back and he starts planning all of these plots and plans
meanwhile snape has already been in the potion lab making nutrition and strength potions because yeah, he fucking hates potter but he's not gonna let him die after the guy saved his life. plus part of his potion apprenticeship could be that he helps makepotions for the hospital wing so he's just Always there. he's the one that adminsters james' potions, he sees james deteriorate, he sees him turn into a shell of himself and he sees this person who once used to fill him with,,, something. even if it was rage and anger, it was something and now james is so EMPTY and he hates that. and i want you to imagine hbp drarry and the bathroom scene. that kind of rushing realisation that "shit, i don't actually hate this guy" and we all know that the bathroom scene should've ended with a kiss so-
:D fixed. james no longer has hanahaki disease :D feelings reciprocated and all is good agai-
now they have to Deal With The Aftermath. and it would be so messy. so so messy. maybe yk, double it. maybe remus walks into the hospital wing right as they kiss and now he's burdened with the fact he should NOT tell sirius. sirius will go feral. so james has so much pressure to not fuck this up on either end but there's no way for him to make them both happy AND himself, so he just has to bite the bullet and decide what one he- OH WHAT IF THAT'S SWM 😭😖 what if he's so fucking scared of losing sirius and he's so scared of everything he's feeling that swm happens after his realisation
#the timeline doesnt match up !!!#because swm and the prank which i referenced arent that far apart#use your imagination and ignore that pls#then technicallyyyyy#the disease stays#away#because they never stop having that reciprocation no matter what#they just dont act on it#or we could let them be happy#and have them stay together but yk#wheres the fun in that

In my opinion, Jeverus is a romantization of bullying
I completely agree! I also think that even if it is an Au, like ooc James Au where they’re friends and whatnot… that it’s still a romanticization of bullying, or Bully x Victim romanticization.
Even if James and Severus “make up”, if they confront the past- it’s just. It wouldn’t work out. That’s just my opinion at least.
James bullied Severus canonically just because he wanted to. Even if you take that out of his character- it’s still there in the original work. To me, it’s like trying to hide his past by taking it out. It’s not fixing the problem, even confronting their past, I feel like. James wouldn’t genuinely care. It’s just, not in his character to care. I see James as someone that manipulates others that he finds easy to control like Sirius, Remus and Peter. Though, Peter wasn’t as easy to control as he thought. Which led to him getting betrayed and later killed- My point being is. His feelings for Severus in my opinion IF genuine would be more so as a different kind of Power Grab. A way for him to feel like he’s still in control, like he’s the boss.
Similarly to Peter he’s someone that wants power, control, status, backing. But. Unlike Peter he wants to be the one in charge, the top dog. Peter wanted all of that but to be PROTECTED yet still Feared and respected. That’s why he followed James and then ditched when he found someone stronger. James wanting to be in control, the boss, that to me, is what his character is. He acts based on his own desires. I think, the reason James wanted Lily wasn’t actually because he loved her or was interested in her. I think it was a way for him to feel like he conquered two people who refused to follow him.
Lily at the beginning was hesitant, because of her friendship with Severus. Though, it was implied by JKR that she was ALWAYS interested in James because he was the “Bad Boy” type.
Severus openly rejected everything that James was about. Not necessarily by words but just by being himself. Here we have a kid who wasn’t seen as attractive, he was a Halfblood, poor, not popular. Someone that SHOULD be easy to control; be easy to get under James’ “wing”. But Severus sneered at him, rejected wanting to be in Gryffindor. He made it clear he wanted to be in Slytherin. The house James had animosity towards already.
So, I think. The reason why he got with Lily was to prove he could still have control. That he was still in charge. He took away the only friend Severus had, married her, and had a child with her. That was his way of getting back at the one kid that rejected everything that he was about by simply existing. It was also his way of getting back at Lily for being so hesitant to be friends with him. To me, I feel like. Even if Lily found out about the continued bullying, the going behind her back to torment others and such- with the fact that she had a SON, a CHILD with James she’d be stuck.
Lily wasn’t particularly rich. She didn’t come from a rich family, she was in a better financial situation than Severus, but she wasn’t rich. They lived around the same neighborhood before going to Hogwarts. If she got a divorce with James after having Harry.. she wouldn’t be able to support the both of them. She was essentially trapped in a relationship. James was from a rich family, he had money. He’d be paying for everything. Lily would likely lose so much during the divorce process as well, James would likely only lose a little bit of money. James could support them financially, Lily wouldn’t have been able to for a while. Especially since they were in hiding.
That’s why, I think it was a way to get back at the both of them. To make sure they knew he was in “Charge”.

It really grinds my gears when people think they can psychoanalyze writers based on their writing. Like, no one does this with any other job. If a retail worker smiles at me I don't assume they are actually happy to see me. It's an act they put on for their job.
When I write fanfics, I treat the characters like they're actors in a play. Sometimes the role they are given is the villain, sometimes it's the hero. If I give a character a villain role it doesn't necessarily mean I hate that character, it just means they were the character who's canon storyline and personality best fit the role.
And if I write jeverus, it doesn't mean I'm trying romanticize bullying or whatever the fuck. It's because it fits the story I want to tell first and foremost. I'm one of those writers your lit teacher warned about, I've got themes and symbolism in my shit. When I was writing Norwegian Wood, I was inspired by the writings of WW1 and Vietnam veterans, at their disillusionment of the supposed heroism required to march into battle, their anger at these old men who sit behind desks, starting wars without thought for the young people who will have to fight and die in them, and I thought what better character to rip the scales from his eyes than James? And Severus, who is his mirror opposite on the other side, would be a perfect partner in this romance because they are foils and could really open each other's eyes.
And then I wrote a very one-sided jeverus in which James is a serial killer in His Masterpiece who is obsessed with Severus, much to Severus's horror. Again, I was writing it because I wanted to tell a particular story and James fit the part the best. Not because I actually think he really was a serial killer in canon. I had Sev play the role of a manipulative, cheating homewrecker in The End of the Affair, and I am very much a Snape fan. He was just the best character for that role.
Like if you don't like a pairing, it gives you the ick factor or whatever, then that's perfectly fine. I promise you, no one gives a flying fuck. But don't act like you know what's going on in the writers heads when they write it.

thoughts on Crabbe/Goyle, Crabbe/Draco, and/or Goyle/Draco? also in terms of canon, what do you think happened to Goyle post-war?
thank you very much for the ask, anon!
in canon, crabbe and goyle are only ever really viewed by harry through the lens of their relationship to draco. indeed, the reader would be forgiven for assuming that both of them spend any time that draco isn't with them staring at a blank wall, not talking to anyone else or doing anything draco doesn't permit them to do or going anywhere without him, while draco - who is shown socialising with other slytherins, like pansy parkinson and theodore nott - only pays them attention when he wants something.
but something i am absolutely committed to thinking is that this is a classic case of harry "lack of object permanence" potter both being unable to comprehend people he's not interested in having lives and thinking that since malfoy is the member of the trio he considers the most important to his own life he must be the most important of the three generally.
instead, i am always struck in canon by the heavy implication - even prior to half-blood prince, in which it's stated outright - that draco doesn't have any actual friends, that he's quite lonely, and that harry never notices this.
and so my preferred way of thinking about these three is to read crabbe and goyle as each other's ride-or-die bff, and draco as someone they think of as a yapping terrier who follows them around and whom they humour.
which is to say, when it comes to vincent crabbe/gregory goyle... it's canon. they're the slytherin equivalent of romione, falling in love in snape's remedial defence against the dark arts classes while breathing a sigh of relief that draco passed first time.
and then when it comes to vincent crabbe/draco malfoy... it's a flop. crabbe's pining over goyle, while draco's driven to ever greater heights of clinginess and being insufferable by the realisation that the boyfriend he thought would be grateful he'd even deigned to look in his direction actually thinks he's annoying and mid.
[it's giving won-won and lavender.]
while they're at school, gregory goyle/draco malfoy is going to have the same issue.
but after it?
i think there's an awful lot to be said for pairings in which the people involved only end up together because of mutual grief - it's my preferred configuration of lilypad or jeverus, for example, and it's also one of the only circumstances in which i could ever see harmony working. and i think it would slap with droyle.
after all, goyle's lost his other half - and not only that, has lost him because of a spell he cast. draco's seen everything he believed was correct and certain about his childhood torn to pieces - including the fact that crabbe and goyle were faithful minions who'd always be there when he wanted them.
they're both going to be completely adrift and terrified about the future - not least because, assuming goyle gets out of azkaban too [which i think he would; i find it inherently plausible that harry insists upon the ministry issuing a blanket pardon for anyone eighteen and under who fought for voldemort], he's not exactly going to have the pick of the job market.
and so why shouldn't they have a little codependent cuddle? as a treat.

Hey my loves!
Bere here with some fun news!
Over the days of spring break, I got to enjoy a couple of days off work. On those days, I started playing Hogwarts Legacy again, im lv13 in a new account so it was a bit challenging given the fact that im lv40 on my main 🤭
With that said, I feel like I've gotten a bit of inspiration to continue writing, BUT, currently i have 5 works and its proving difficult to choose which one to focus on.
SO, I had a thought in asking you guys which one of them y'all would like to get uploaded first! That way, I can take priority in the story that's actually wanted 🫶🏾
Then, I will focus on the next depending on the results!
If this proves to work, I might continue to use it, or not, y'all let me know!!
( i have also gotten inspo for my first snupin fic! let me know if y'all are interested in that too!!)
Love ya!

Okay, my thoughts about Jegulus|Drarry|NottPott|Jeverus similarities & differences.
Let’s start with Drarry & Jeverus similarities. And before you ask: in this case it’s James - Draco and Severus - Harry parallels. They are different people though, so parallels, not copies.
One of them is pureblood, proud and full of himself (Draco, James) and the other is a halfblood, that grew up in abusive household (Severus, Harry). Yes, Potters are rich, unlike Snapes, but did it help Harry specifically? Not really.
They have a very open rivalry/hostility that sometimes escalate into a full on fight. In Drarry’s case it’s rather homoerotic in some moments. I’m not going to list them, bc my understanding of homoerotic is def not the same as yours, but you can probably remember some. We cannot tell if Jeverus had the same dynamics, bc we’re not shown much and also told that they fought over a girl. But they had a hostile relationship.
Also, in Jeverus case we can’t tell if it was one-sided or not. Drarry definitely was a rivalry, not just hostility. But Jeverus? We don’t have enough canon material. Snape did retaliate, surely, but did he start some of the fights? We don’t know. I think it was a rivalry, based on some canon bits, but that's just my thoughts. But was James obsessed with Severus? Probably.
Draco tries to humiliate Harry (“Potter stinks” badges, “Dementors” during quidditch, etc.) And “Snape’s worst memory” exists. I don’t like Snape, that’s true, but damn, I feel bad for him in that moment. It’s mixed, because he also calls Lily a slur in the same scene, but still.
Draco saves Harry’s live (DH, in the Malfoy manor). To Draco it’s also an action against his family. James saves Severus in the Shrieking Shack, when Sirius gets him there while Remus is transformed. It’s an action against Sirius. Please, tell me you understand what I mean, please, I cannot put it into words.
If we go into Cursed child, there’s also some interesting things. Draco outgrew his rivalry with Harry, like James did, became a better person for his wife and son. Harry… Harry didn’t, at least not entirely. Harry, just like Snape, judges a child by his father’s actions (seeing Scorpius as a “dark cloud” near Albus and all that). He’s not as bad as Snape, but he still sees “sins of the father”.
Thank you for coming into my Ted Talk, I guess. I’ll post about Jegulus - NottPott another time, this is already really long…
#harry potter#headcanon#fandom discussion#jeverus#drarry#harry potter fandom#harry potter and the cursed child#snape is difficult character to grasp#and james is too bc we have so little#and none of the sources are unbiased#you can make them rivals or you can make them a bully and a victim#the point is we don't know#but i hate jkr#so it's better if we never know#she'd fuck it up so bad#also you can contextualize Drarry to make them more or less shipable#is that a word?#like you can focus on the details that make them more inclined to be a ship#english is hard#marauders era#lightning era#I'm ready for hate#and i will cry

been thinking abt how the marauders era relationships would pan out in every universe and here are my thoughts!!
Wolfstar — lowkey controversial but I don’t think they’re soulmates — they’re more, kinda-wrong person, right time. I think they’d only end up together when things go to shit. Which is part of why I love them so much and why I love them in the canon universe. James and Lily are dead, Peter is a traitor, remus is unemployed and sirius….poor sirius. So yeah, They’re just two fucked up lads trying their best to love despite the world being against them. In universes where they don’t fall in love, can imagine they think the other’s a little off-putting or perhaps no really strong emotions. I think that’s why their connection in the canon universe is so special to me, because I just don’t think they’re relationship would be as prominent if circumstances were different (in other universes).
Prongsfoot — they’re literally soulmates. In every fucking universe. Sometimes, it’s platonic (tho never strictly), sometimes, romantic, sometimes an intense sexual bond as enemies?? Either way they’re always a little bit in love with each other. I do hc James as straight in the canon universe but yeah they definitely made out. And in other universes where James is queer they’re having the time of their lives. Anyways so yeah. Soulmates in every universe.
Jily — Love Jily! I see them as a first love situation. Some universes (like the main one) their love becomes immortalised. However, in others, maybe they move on and find other people, but since they were each other’s first love they always have a special place in their heart for each other <33
Jegulus — …………………………………………………………..
Prongstail — always doomed in the long run. Kinda childhood friends to lovers to ……. . A bit of unrequitedness because I don’t think James could ever love Peter enough. And in every universe Peter always has an inferiority complex and bottled resentment. They’re relationship rarely ends well.
Snily — ooh this is an interesting one. Similar to prongsfoot, I think they’re also a kind of doomed childhood-friend-to-lovers. Except I think that in the universes where Sev does not end being a bigot, they could probably date for a bit. They wouldn’t last tho and would remain as friends. In one universe Lily is an out and proud Lesbian and Sev is a closeted t-girl and they date for a bit but eventually decide to become friends (Lily still supports transfem!Sev in her transition tho). Canon universe tho,,, Sev had a crush on her and maybe Lily did too, but fifth year and James lol.
Nobleflower — ooooh love me some sapphic friends-to-star-crossed-lovers! I feel like in every universe they’d be on opposing sides, depending on circumstance.
Marylene — Friends to lovers, right person wrong time in the canon universe, but in other universes they’re thriving. They still would have had some sort of codependent, homoerotic friendship leading up to it lmaoo.
Dorlene — I like to think they’re always rivals in some context. Sometimes it leads to a fiery relationship, and sometimes it’s just aggressive sexual tension while they’re on opposing fields.
Jeverus — oooh people hate this but. Toxic rivals/enemies to lovers. Sometimes it works out, most of the time it doesn’t. The hate they hold for each is very strong but so is the sex
anyways this was fun!! Lemme know what u guys agree/disagree with! Maybe I’ll do a part 2 lol.

To The Winter Woods
Prompt:
Each decade, a mysterious light signals the arrival of wizards into the fairy realm—a rare and magical event. During one such visit, James is among them. Though he lives in the wizarding world, he’s always felt an unshakable emptiness, a sense that something was missing.
That feeling vanishes the moment he caught a glimpse of Severus—a winter fairy whose presence seems to both echo and defy the frozen beauty around him.
Hello everyone! As I am nearing the completion of 2 of my fics. I would be pre-launching my newest fic, To The Winter Woods!
I started writing this fic a few weeks ago and to be honest, it became a bigger and heavier plot than I thought. I went through some books to study writing about heavy emotions and surroundings just to write this fic. At the moment, I'm halfway done (maybe) and have most of the plot lines for each chapter until the ending.
It will be a TinkerBell AU just to celebrate the publishing of 'Wings of Starlight' which I am gushing about right now.
This little project of mine will be somewhat of a gift to myself and I'm not sure if it will gain interest but, if you are. Please come along for the ride!
Based on Chapter 32 of 'My Jeverus/Snames Prompts'

Dependence And Magnetism By OutcastDeity

Yay another Jeverus fanfic! I don't usually enjoy top!Severus, but this series is too good, so I made an exception for it. The dynamic between James and Severus in this fic is quite different from what you usually find in other fanfictions or the canon since the the characters are made to be OOC. I never thought I would ever read a fanfic where James is so much shorter than Severus lol it's kinda cute 👀
This is the longest typeset I've ever edited—620 pages in total! It took me a really long time to carefully check for errors and typos. One problem I kept facing while editing was overlooking blank pages and it's driving me CRAZY. Thankfully, I made sure to double triple checked the document before printing them out.
Main ship(s): James Potter/Severus Snape & Remus Lupin/Regulus Black
Thank you so much m.blakeart for this gorgeous art cover! ✨

Hcs for slytherin!james?
He was devastated at first since he's a proud descendant of the great Godric Gryffindor, and now he's their family's only Slytherin
^ but he'd settle in nicely in the snake's den after he busied himself with Quidditch and gained lots of friends and fame
He saw with his own eyes how not all Slytherins are evil like he thought of before. There's actually non-purebloods, as well as decent, nice purebloods in this house!
^ And he experienced first hand how unfairly judged Slytherins are by the rest of Hogwarts, especially Gryffindors
^ Opened up his eyes to a more nuanced perspective, and he became much less judgmental and one-sided than canon Gryff!James
On one hand, I want Sirius to also be in Slytherin, but on the other hand, Sirius Black becoming a Gryffindor and James Potter a Slytherin is absolutely hilarious
^ The duo of all time. Ended house rivalry. They hang out with each other more than they do with their own housemates.
^ Marauders never gets established, therefore no animagi. It's only Sirius and James.
He's one of the most popular Slytherins; he's from a respectable pureblood family, he's good looking, rich, smart, and their Quidditch team's star Chaser
Slughorn adores him. He believes he's ol' Sluggy's favorite snake eventhough he's not that invested in potions
James made sure to stay away from the people he suspected as DE supporters/recruits, and try to convince his fellow Slytherins to do the same
^ This earned him quite a mixed reputation among the Slytherins (and Gryffindors)
Still does his 'pranks' alongside Sirius, but a bit smarter about it and they managed to avoid detention most of the time
Goes into fights a lot with Mulciber and Avery since he still insists on refusing to have anything to do with Dark Arts
^ The two call him a hypocrite for his 'pranks' and mock him for being a blood traitor
Speaking of the duo, he shares a dorm room with Mulciber, Avery, Rosier, and Snape! (RIP)
He would either be besties with Regulus, or they'd absolutely despise each other (it has everything to do with Sirius) (and Quidditch) (and Pureblood politics)
And the rest of these are more jeverus-adjacent, but could be read as platonic too :3c
THE classmate who laughed the loudest and teased the longest when Sev was struggling to mount a broom during their first flying lesson
He'd have a secret admiration (and jealousy) of Sev since he sees firsthand how Sev is so dedicated (and weirdly enthusiastic) to his potions research, his studies, and even cheering on the Slytherin Quidditch team
^ (Sev literally just sometimes watches their practices and games but James counts it as a huge, insanely ooc gesture lmao)
^ He also saw firsthand the bullying and shaming of Sev's blood status from their housemates
^ He might be hostile towards Sev, but his heroism and 'I can fix him' mentality wins
Despite their early tension, both James and Sev managed to warm up to each other and settle their differences after one too many confrontations with the other three dormmates
James would drop comments on how Sev needs to stop burying his nose in books and enjoy the sun (like watching their team's practices and games, wink wink)
Made sure that Sev isn't going to be swayed by the DE lot since he knows how crafty and smart Sev is, and how dangerous the other side could be if they have him; so he made extra effort to befriend Sev and pull him towards the 'light' side
After hearing about Sev's family situation (through Sev himself or via Lily), he stopped mocking his looks and started to gift him stuff every Xmas
^ He'd also softly tell Sirius to leave Sev alone (making up excuses of course so that Sirius wouldn't feel like James is warming up to the dungeon bat)
He still struggles a lot to not be overly sarcastic or mean when he talks to Sev (it's just so hard to when he's Snape) but he makes a conscious effort to be nice and patient towards him
Sev would tutor him in Potions, while he tutors Sev in Transfiguration
^ They would make bets and challenge each other to see which one of them would get more house points
^ This, in turn, made the Slytherins more friendly and accepting towards Sev (because he racks up those pts like his life depended on them, like hell he'd lose to James Potter)
He'd actually open his mind to Dark Arts after years of knowing and befriending Sev, and see that having knowledge in it would bring benefits that people often overlook
^ He would ask tons of questions to Sev (which Sev would begrudgingly and happily oblige)
He feels kinda proud that he gains Sev's friendship, like he'd just befriended a Bearded Dragon; it's something special and not a lot of people get this close to the prickly git
Lily would get jealous that her best friend is being pulled away by the arrogant toerag LOL
#ask#slytherin!james will always have a special place in my heart#he's a fun character to think of#jeverus#im so sorry this took so long to answer anon 😭😭😭 it's buried so deep in my drafts

Jegulus is just a Jeverus in a slightly different font. Marauders fans already push severus' entire personality into regulus nowadays
you know i have thought about this myself before. There are a lot of similarities between the ships, the underlying dynamic can definitely be compared, but there are also enough things that work for jegulus that do not work for jeverus, and vice versa (best friends brother, quidditch rivals, the prank)
For me i prefer jegulus because i like working off of canon and don't like snape, and because, quite honestly, my favourite thing about jegulus is the james&sirius dynamic.
I definitwly agree with you though that snape is being pushed away in marauders fics, especially in jegulus fics. I've talked about this before as well, because I realised I am very very bad at including snape in jegulus fics. I don't really knkw why, but for some reason the snape/james rivalry is near impossible to write in jegulus fics and I would love to figure that one out. I think it is a combination of james having to realise 'if regulus can be good while being a slytherin, then maybe snape is too', regulus not having anything to do with snape in canon, and the character developmrmt simply playing somewhere else. If i write a jegulus fic outside of hogwarts, i simply see no reason why james/regulus should be interacting with snape since they wouldn't go out of their way to seak contact
Would absolutely love to get other people's thoughts on this tho!

hi Robyn!! im curious, what are your thoughts on bartylily? idk if you’ve talked about it before or anything, but i heard your thoughts on Lily’s complex morality in the jeverus yap video and wondered how you think that applies to bartylily
MHM YEAH YEAH I HAVE !!! only briefly and yk,, i don't have TOOO many thoughts about them but i'm definitely intrigued!!
i mean we can go very simple with academic rivals: we can go simple with lily constantly trying to prove her worth, constantly trying to prove that she deserves a space in this world even if she came into it two steps behind whilst everyone else keeps moving forward, like she's neverrrr going to catch up because they Won't Let Her. pair this with that one annoying boy who just doesn't do anything !! she's so fucking frustrated that this guy just blazes through everything and he's so arrogant about it (add an extra layer here if wanted because i like to imagine barty truly did like learning so maybe there's a bit where she realises how much work he puts in and that intrigues her a bit. why not flaunt it? why put on this big show of arrogance when it's all hard work? what else is he hiding etc etc). you can go simple but still complex with a poot muggleborn and a rich pureblood and all of the assumptions she would have about him and how quickly it's thrown upside down OR alternatively, how little it changes??? academic rivals with a touch of a field experiment LOL
i think you could also go more,,, hm. this is the bit that's related to what i say about jily/snily - snape is Fundamental to lily. there is no lily without snape, he is the forefront of her complexity - both in terms of Him and also the shared experience they have of homelives and cokeworth etc - she haunts the series with her love but love is MESSY! and dangerous. and her standing by snape for so long until his actions affect her personally is so so soooo complex. i have a dorlily fic that i never got around to posting but a big part of that is their connection over slytherins. a big part of it is yk, people are mad at lily for sticking by snape when he does all of these bad things, but dorcas Gets It. dorcas gets it so so much. so they can bond over it all. over that grieffff even though they're still Here. barty and co are Still Here and snape is Still Here but they're both grieving the people they used to be and yk, also grieving maybe a part of themselves because they never expected to be the kind of people that stand by and do nothing but they Can't. love is messy man. so i'm thinking that kind of vibe of "okay if there's something inside snape worth saving, maybe we've been too quick to blow off all of the slytherins". i'm thinking a girl that is so fucking scared because the world she was brought into isn't built for her and she is so desperate to find proof that this can be changed. that they just need to fix it. they need to find the rot and cut it out and plssss don't say this is just How Things Are, surely somehing went wrong along the way? anything. literally anythingggg that could have gone wrong besides Herself.
i do wonder,,, a lot of that complexity i mentioned is rooted in shared experiences and time spent together, so i think it would be slightly different? i think the reason snape is the one lily sticks by is because of that history and how much they relate to each other and i'm pondering how barty and lily would do the same? vastly different backgrounds and experiences - arguably a lot of overlap too. similar themes with petunia and barty crouch sr. you could do something there! forced proximity via dorcas and/or snape? prefect duty? lily finding barty doing something he probably shouldn't be - does she turn him in or does she turn a blind eye because they've been spending more time together and she thinks she's finally starting to unpick who he is underneath all of this?
i think there's mhm yeah a lot of potential avenues you could take to make them something so fucking tragic. so tragic and so complex and also so,,, gentle? i think there's some tenderness you could find there too.
but ultimately,,, i don't *personally* see bartylily as something long-term or even really,,, definable??? more as a phase, at least for lily. OOOO i think it could be really cool if it's NOT a phase for barty and you could work a bit with the longbottoms' attack? you could work a bit with okay there's two houses that could be hit, dear god don't let it be lily's son. let it be the other boy. don't make me have to ruin her life again type vibes??? obviously we'd play around with that a lot so you still get the twisted insides because a past relationship isn't enough for that so yk, that's where we pad out the trauma and messy morals prior to it all! bonus points if lily and alice were friends so he's fucked either way really. but,,, i'm thinking. it wouldn't be long-term. for lily it's a phase. maybe even post-SWM??? are you catching my drift with the thoughts there? post-SWM and all the anger there that she couldn't fix him or save him and she's really angry and upset and heartbroken after that happens that she seeks comfort in the first person she can find and if she convinces herself that she can save barty and she can crack him open to find something nice inside, maybe she can still do the same with snape? so it's this short-term, desperateeee thing in my mind of trying to convince herself people can be saved but she ends up losing herself even more because of it (see again: she never thought she'd be the type of person to stand by someone like snape for so long).
tldr (sorry i yapped): mhm yeah i could definitely sit down and try to get myself intrigued in them! i could definitely sit down and develop a cool scenario that makes me yearnnnn for them but,,,, my overarching thought here.... the. the thought eating away at my brain is like. snily. i feel like it would mimic snily a lot so i think i'm leaningggg towards that short-term fling. i'm leaningggg towards that desperate "plsplspls prove that you can be fixed because i need to know if snape still can be, pls give me some indication that you guys are still human" and barty proving that he CAN be good, he's not like his dad no no he can be different and good and there's something worth saving within him, just find it plsplspls type of vibe so really !!! i'm potentially just inflicting my snily feelings onto bartylily but,,, i could be intrigued. i could be intrigued and i say this as if there's ever a chance i wouldn't be intrigued in a ship LOL.
but yah !! i could see how the same kinda themes and traits pop up and i can see how i'd get invested in them but in my mind they exist - in the wizarding world at least - as this short-term desperation to prove something to each other and to themselves but muggle world,,,, i could be convinced of anything 🙂↕️

At the moment I am writing 4 fanfics. A heads up. I ship basically anyone that remotely interacted with Snape, brought lore to his name with Snape. In other words I ship:
Lucius Malfoy x Severus Snape (Snucius)
James Potter x Severus Snape (Jeverus)
Regulus Black x Severus Snape (Snegulus)
Remus Lupin x Severus Snape (Snupin)
Barty Crouch Jr x Severus Snape
Evan Rosier x Severus Snape
Harry Potter x Severus Snape (Snarry/ equal age)
Draco Malfoy x Severus Snape (equal age)
Peter Pettigrew x Severus Snape
Tom Riddle x Severus Snape (Tomerus)
male Lily Evans x female Severus Snape (Snily)
Albus Dumbledore x Severus Snape
Bruce Mulciber x Severus Snape (Snulciber)
I don't really care about other ships with women really. It's not that I am mysoginistic since I make Severus a woman more than often. It's just that I am basically obsessed with him and I can't help it. Also many women in Snape's era sucks ass. Lily Evans being the biggest one of them.
Anyway, my fanfics have not been posted yet. I feel a bit insecure about them since they are not popular ships at all and I love polyandry. If people don't know what that means. This is the definition:
Polygamy: in which a woman has more than one husband.
Which means in my story, Severus Snape has often more than just 1 husband/lover. So if you still read this and think, either "hmm, interesting. I wonder where this is going." Continue.
But if you are "Wtf, I hate it. What the fuck is wrong with you and these ships are crack." Please stop reading. You're too vanilla oriented I guess for my ships. I want to write as horror/psychological and canon oriented as possible. I will post 4 messages like these and have three links to them explaining my fanfics.
My 2nd fanfic is a Peter Pettigrew x Severus Snape. So after Eileen's death, Tobias immediately moves in with his new girlfriend without a care or thought about how his son would feel. Snape knows immediately who it was judging by the surname and is reluctant but his father isn't exactly a negotiable man. So he accepts his fate. Thanks to the room being destroyed that he'd sleep in, he is now place in Peter's room.
Mother of peter is called Delilah and Tobias got a new job for higher pay at a new factory. Peter to me is raised with a submissive and timid mom, that if peter says A, she does A. He wouldn't cuss her out but he definitely would demand many things for her under the idea that he's her child and has rights to do so. Eventually becoming fat since his mom can't say no.
That abuse Snape went under, is now fully reflected on peter. He's beaten on the first day for eating so much that his head is slammed in the food right where Delilah sat but she didn't care. Because again, she's a timid woman and Tobias made her feel loved for the first time in her life after Peter's dad left her. When peter talks to her about it, she tells him that he was eating too much and could do less.
Peter not being raised with Tobias steps on many triggering points of Tobias meanwhile Snape avoids them flawlessly. Snape digresses into a depression as he meets a boy ghost in the magical forest doing summer homework for extra credit. Ghost is called Matthew and Severus simply let's it all out. Ghost litterally could take it back to his grave. Seeing Snape so miserable, peter began taking pictures. Few too many for Matthew's taste but he doesn't say anything to Snape.
Tobias began to take care of Severus since the boy looks so empty and vulnerable after Eileen's death. As Delilah is changing Snape to use him properly for climbing the social ladder. She changes the family into a Catholic christian one to be more accepted in the community and with a husband that works for their income she could help around and cook. While she has her kids attent Sunday church and Sunday school, whilst doing homework.
Peter eventually gets a job in the boxing club as a cleaner boy because Tobias finds that if peter wants to eat like a pig, he better pay for it too. Other kids in their community also take notice of Severus as the new face and the close knit community that they are. Snape promises Matthew to give him his body as peter falls for him more and more over the summer vacation.
Severus is tense at first when he has to perform homework with peter, but peter shows actual intellect when he does his homework. Surprising the Slytherin. Then again, Snape is also disappointed in Peter for leeching onto others and copying their homework.
It's a lot of topics I am putting into this fanfic such as greed, fat phobia, body dimorphism, incest, religion, suicide and depression. It has 10 chapters and I'm working on more. Also here, Snape becomes a woman.
