I swear that Peter J. Hall, who designed the costumes for Franco Zeffirelli's iconic Metropolitan Opera production of La Bohéme, must have seen this Little Women illustration by Jessie Wilcox Smith. It must have reminded him of Musetta and Mimí in the opera, because the dress he designed for Musetta in the last act looks almost identical to Jo's dress in this drawing.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/13e23e903f292785237cd5ab92649256/b43d003f1d72541d-59/s540x810/7fda917b7aed081279362b1f9de1d131c77f684a.jpg)
Meanwhile, all three of Mimí's dresses are blue, even though none of them look quite like Beth's dress.
Even though Musetta has nothing in common with Jo apart from being feisty and hot-tempered (Jo would rather die than try to be sexy or flirty), the parallel of a fiery girl who reveals her tender and nurturing side by caring for a quieter, gentler, terminally ill girl still seems to have inspired the designer. The fact that Beth is sewing in that illustration, which is what Mimí does for a living, probably helped too.

final fantasy: rebirth {a mess of emotions, not in chronological order}
this is more story-based, so heads-up spoilers below.
“question. does that make me a dumbass?”
not aerith asking about reno
chadley nearly outing cissnei and cloud getting real confrontational about it.
cloud is so much more conversational in this, i felt in remake he was bordering on joker level’s of player-character. he’s a lot more laidback, which is understandable since he didn’t really know anyone but tifa and midgar’s only like what a week long?
the game now feels like an ensemble piece rather an a cloud simulator.
cloud not realising he’s the one loner friend
americans aren’t the best swearers - put to much emphasis on the swear itself but cloud does it so well.
he’s a prickly, backchatting bitch in this game and i love every single second of it. he’s not mopey, stubborn and grumpy. he’s ‘i’m going to actively make myself your problem if you cross me, so don’t.’
barret immitating yuffie?! or, “oh, wow. tell us more.” it’s giving abridged.
yuffie’s little naruto run!
yuffie and cloud’s growing sibling dynamic is the cutest shit. like, he should be be pissed at her but immediately protected her from the captain.
all i hear is priscilla’s dad’s irish accent from abridged when ever someone says her name or, “mr dolphin, ye daft bastard.”
rufus shinra… the man that you are.
every rude and elena scene, just, yes. her with the ice-lolly, the corneo fight, rude’s pub club?! babysitting palmer. (also, they call it the clean-shaven club when rude literally has a beard).
i genuinely thought we were gonna at least get that iconic reno and rude scene outside of gongaga (and as a long-shot a reunion with cissnei - i stand by the fact tseng absolutely knows where she is.)
that final turks training facility was a bitch to find.
don’t get me wrong, yuffie, barret, tifa and red’s trials were sad but aerith’s absolutely wrecked me. like i’ve got a stuffy nose already and i literally couldn’t breathe with the tears.
same with dyne and barret, like what you mean you want me to fight palmer?! i’m sitting here ugly crying about two men who love their daughter and have been through hell and back.
i’d love to see cissnei and leslie get involved with the wutai turk team-up
as much as i love aerti’s ‘improved over og’ friendship. it’s not passing the bechdel test anytime soon.
fuck queen’s blood.
cloud saying “down boy” sir- THE WHIMPERING!
the kids locking yuffie in with the hooded men on the cruise.
nanaki walking in the cabin on two legs fucking kills me. i also caught barret admiring himself in the mirror.
the fact the name tag is, “???” when we can hear yuffie cheering on cloti.
did they kiss?!
so, we finally see loveless and it was everything i ever wanted. genesis, i’m sorry, you were right.
“death doesn’t suit a turk”
cloud jr is too cute and i love my chocobro protagonists
speaking of, i’m in two heads about ffxv. you can see a lot of the inspiration the team got from that game but i think they left out the one thing that made ffxv perfect, which was the constant chatter during traversal
cloud turning on tifa during the gongaga reactor mission is giving the ffxv: omen trailer
i need a tonberry robot for my desk
jessie’s poster! i really thought she’d be alive with biggs
cloud calling gus a prick is when it clicked for me, like cloud’s got bite
i need esther’s red boots
cid is played by j. michael tatum?! sebastian- france- kyouya-
elena stuck in the heat yelling at rude, omg this is the turk moments i love.
as someone who is scottish, i can’t believe i witnessed cait sith tell cissnei to “wheesht”.
not the biggest fan of cissnei’s new colour scheme. would’ve gone with browns, accented gold buckles and mustard yellow personally
wished they’d’ve put in an turk easter egg in her house.
cosmo canyon’s lantern scene is so pretty.
gold-fucking-saucer. woah
sitting at the water tower with aerith felt wrong, and i know that was intentional.
omfg vincent, why he kinda dressed like gyuvin in en garde?
jesus, roche.
still not keen on seph’s voice - mainly because i don’t like tyler and also zack is better but i’m still not keen
symbiote!peter to “OMG GUYSSS HAIIII” is like fucking whiplash. two minutes ago we were crying over harry, now hotels?!
i knew that’s what marlene saw! and now zack knows! i am not okay!
was low-key waiting on elena throwing the keystone to reno to catch for a grand intro but he kinda just appears, and i loved every second of it.
the way both tifa and aerith have had to stop cloud murdering a turk.
cloud with blood by his own hand on his face is such a chilling image. it’s like seeing someone like superman with it.
avalanche versus reno and rude’s fight was giving advent children, like specifically reno and rude’s fight with loz and kazoo. (which i rewatched recently. rude’s face when reno steps on his glasses is the funniest thing in that film, also i can’t unhear fred from scooby-doo when loz speaks even though i know it’s not frank welker - it’s the dude that plays corneo).

last one !! for part eight of your amazing ask extravaganza, could i please ask about questions one, three, four, and eight, again for my absolute beloved kit ?
looking forward to the answers, and i really hope you're doing well !! <3
Hiiiii Dolly, thanks for the ask! As per usual, you're getting both Kit versions because Reasons, okay?
1. What if your OC were a villain?
OH boy, I could easily see both Kit version being pushed over the edge. If it weren't for Hannibal giving them a way to channel their energy and aggression into something productive, someone else would've come along and led them to channelling it into destruction and cruel violence. And while neither version of Kit is actually cruel at hearts, I could unfortunately see them just going batshit insane and stabbing anyone who gets in their way. They're not a calculated villain at all. They throw knives at anything that moves. Very much a case for the "I could fix them" meme.
3. What song plays during their fight scene?
For 80s!Kit? The A-Team theme, obviously! But aside from that, I could totally see something like I'm Still Standing, Crocodile Rock or Holding Out For a Hero. Something fast and 80s-adjacent.
Movie!Kit might get Circus by Britney Spears because... well... circus kid. But also Do It Like a Dude by Jessie J, Immortals or Planetary (GO!). Generally, Fall Out Boy would be a good choice, MCR or P!ATD also works really well.
4. Make up your OC or OTP's ___ doing ___ for ___ minutes straight video
OH boy. Lots of bickering. Eternal bickering. Also lots of gender.
For 80s!Kit: "Kit Kelley being a genderqueer icon for 8 minutes straight", which is a compilation of her correcting people on her gender, some very gender fashion moments, all that good stuff. "Kit Kelley making me a lesbian for 7 minutes straight", which is essentially Kit being hot in her slutty tank tops/tube tops, abs out, muscles, all that stuff that would prompt the "not to be a lesbian but" reaction image. "Face being completely whipped for Kit for 9 minutes straight", which is just what it says on the tin. This video has a part 2.
For Movie!Kit: "Kit Kelley being an acrobat for 6 minutes straight" aka all the scenes of Kit either doing acrobatics to complete a mission, stretching or getting up to acrobatic antics in the background. "Kit Kelley identifying as a problem for 4 minutes straight" aka this version's gender compilation with Kit hating on transphobes and saying the line that gave the video its title. Also has some small moments of just Kit being visibly trans thrown in. "Hannibal and Kit being father and son for 5 minutes straight" aka all the soft moments between them and Hannibal holding Kit on a metaphorical leash. "FaceKit bickering for 7 minutes straight" is just what it says on the tin.
8. Describe your OC or OTP using AO3 tags
Let's see here... 80s!Kit: Androgyny; Genderbending (in the literal sense); Knifeplay; [Character] Has Anger Issues; Threats Of Violence. Movie!Kit: Transgender; Knifeplay; Gender Dysphoria; [Character] as [Character]'s Parental Figure; Affectionate Insults.
That's it! Hope you like it and thanks again for your ask! <3
Taglist: @starcrossedjedis @oneirataxia-girl @daughter-of-melpomene - let me know if you’d like to be added or removed!

Show Breakdowns - Moulin Rouge!
This one should be fun! The tricky thing with MR is that they specifically ask for non-musical theatre songs (Hadestown does this, too). My challenge for myself for this breakdown was trying to stay away from the pop songs already featured in the show. Some of the songs repeat since they can fit a few different characters.
Unfortunately I can't seem to find actual notes for the ranges (but given they changed keys for all of Christian's stuff when they brought in Derek, I don't think it's too important).
Satine
Playing age: Late 20s-Mid 30s
Leading Role. Star Vehicle
Dance Requirement: Strong mover at the very least, ideally a dancer
Range: Mezzo belt (Bottom note is about an F#3)
Sexy and confident on the outside, Satine wants nothing more than to be free of her life in the Moulin Rouge to be a real actress. She's both strong and vulnerable with a decisive pragmatic streak.
Suggested Songs: Breakaway by Kelly Clarkson, Leave by Jojo, A Million Reasons by Lady Gaga, Fighter by Christina Aguilera, Bang Bang by Ariana Grande & Jessie J, ft. Nicki Minaj, Since U Been Gone by Kelly Clarkson, Big Girls Don’t Cry by Fergie, Trouble by P!nk, Who Knew by P!nk, Circus by Britney Spears, Shadows of the Night by Pat Benatar
Christian
Playing age: Mid 20s-Early 30s
Leading Role. Star Vehicle
Dance Requirement: Some dance
Range: Tenor (or Baritenor)
A true idealist, Christian is a bit naive. More or less a male ingenue at the start. He believes love can and will conquer any obstacle and that art is the true meaning of being human. As the newcomer character, he is also the main cipher for the audience.
Suggested Songs: DJ Got Us Fallin’ In Love by Usher, Mr. Brightside by The Killers, You Give Love A Bad Name by Bon Jovi, I Write Sins Not Tragedies by Panic! At the Disco, Livin’ La Vida Loca by Ricky Martin, Attention by Charlie Puth, The Other Side by Jason Derulo, Tearin’ Up My Heart by NSYNC
The Duke of Monroth
Playing age: 30s-early 40s
Supporting Role
Dance Requirement: Mover
Range: Tenor w/ a strong lower extension or high Baritone
Darkly charming and seductive, with a violent temper, The Duke is the other third of the iconic love triangle in Moulin Rouge. However, rather than the sniveling man-child of the movie, he's a viable, though dangerous, choice for Satine. He knows what he wants and will not take no for an answer.
Suggested Songs: Everybody (Backstreet’s Back) by the Backstreet Boys, Paralyzer by Finger Eleven, Tonight I’m Lovin’ You by Enrique Iglesias, Bad Guy by Billie Eilish
Santiago
Playing age: 20s-30s
Supporting Role
Dance Requirement: Strong dancer with partnering skills
Range: Baritone with a gruff, scratchy color. Lots of false fold work.
Santiago is the narcoleptic Argentinian, the greatest tango dancer in either Spain or Argentina, and "also the biggest gigolo." Suave, and just a touch silly. He's the choreographer of the show within a show. He and Toulouse take an immediate shine to Christian.
Suggested Songs: Smooth by Santana, Bailando by Enrique Iglesias, Hips Don’t Lie by Shakira, Livin’ La Vida Loca by Ricky Martin, Maneater by Nelly Furtado, Rock Your Body by Justin Timberlake
Toulouse Lautrec
Playing age: Mid 30s-mid 40s
Supporting Role
Dance Requirement: Some movement
Range: Baritone
The great painter, Toulouse is another of the Bohemians. He grew up with Satine (or at least has known her since before her time at the Moulin Rouge). A little world weary, he still believes in the ideals of Freedom, Beauty, Truth, and Love.
Suggested Songs: 24 Karat Magic by Bruno Mars, Somebody to Love by Queen, The One that Got Away by Katy Perry, A Million Reasons by Lady Gaga, DJ Got Us Fallin’ In Love by Usher
Harold Zidler
Playing Age: Mid 40s-mid 50s
Supporting Role
Dance Requirement: Strong Mover
Range: Baritone
The MC/Ring Master of the Moulin Rouge. He is flamboyant and fun, though very morally gray. Everything he does is for the MR and he will do anything to keep it running.
Suggested Songs: Circus by Britney Spears, Mambo No. 5 by Lou Bega, Bang Bang by Ariana Grande & Jessie J, ft. Nicki Minaj, Nothin’ But a Good Time by Poison, Tik Tok by Kesha
Nini Legs-in-the-Air/The Lady Ms
Playing Ages: Mid 20s-Early 40s
Supporting Roles
Dance Requirement: Strong Dancers
Range: Alto, Mezzo, or Soprano
Nini is another dancer at the Moulin Rouge, though jealous of Satine, she's deeply loyal to all the girls. The other Lady M characters include Baby Doll, Arabia, and La Chocolat. These characters also serve as a bit of a Greek Chorus, and ensemble members. These Four: Nini, Baby Doll, Arabia, and La Chocolat sing Lady Marmalade to open the show. Typically Baby Doll is cast with an amab actor though the character is femme presenting and La Chocolat is cast with a Black actor.
Suggested Songs: Bang Bang by Ariana Grande & Jessie J, ft. Nicki Minaj, Maneater by Nelly Furtado, U + Ur Hand by P!nk, Genie in a Bottle by Christina Aguilera, He Said She Said by Ashely Tisdale, When I Grow Up by the Pussycat Dolls, S&M by Rhianna, I Wanna Be Bad by Willa Ford, Kings and Queens by Ava Max

the closest taeyeon equivalent i can think of is christina aguilera? she can sing and serve and has had some iconic pop moments, but is also currently in that weird space of not unpopular and doing some good stuff, but no longer shifting the culture.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/614e1a4260942541d01daaffe0a44d5e/6b40d214feb7dac3-ae/s540x810/9209df6349338ccd27bd8146260d4296d01eb2a2.jpg)
see none of these are selling it for me but Jessie j is not it 😭 taeyeon is way more famous in asia than jessie ever was in the west... idk if she is on christina's status of vocalist because christina is simply insane but yeah maybe

"BTS j-hope, why are you in the audience?" The legendary appearance of "The Seasons".
"The Seasons - Park Jae-beom's Drive" delivers more special enjoyment with the audience's talk.
Singer Kwon Jin-ah, Gumann, and J-Hope of BTS appear on KBS 2TV's music talk show "The Seasons-Park Jae-beom's Drive," which airs on the afternoon of the 12th.
In this broadcast, World Icon BTS's j-hope will have a special meeting with viewers.Through the audience talk, which was held for the first time in 30 years on KBS' late-night music program, the audience will get closer.
Along with Park Jae-beom, he will also perform his recently released new song "on the street (with J. Cole)" and Toygo's "BLUE CHECK (Feat. Park Jae-beom, Jessi) (Prod. by Slom)."The unique swag and high-quality combination of the two artists provide great pleasure.
In particular, the instant dance battle, which was introduced in time for the Jeongma and Kungchitachi band sessions, is also only available in The Seasons-Park Jae-beom's Drive, raising expectations. It is also said that Park Jae-beom impressed J-Hope by showing his own rap to the beat of J-Hope's new song.
In addition, Kwon Jin-ah, who has a honey-colored voice, surprises Park Jae-beom by perfectly reproducing New Jin's humming of the introduction of "Ditto" as well as the stage filled with Kwon Jin-ah's emotions. In addition, he proved once again his charm with a cover stage that he had never shown before.
Singer-songwriter Koo Min, who appeared in the new discovery corner Tarout, reorganizes Park Jae-beom's "Yesterday" into a retro sensibility to target the tastes of the audience as well as Park Jae-beom.

I was going to write this in the tags but I ran out of space so fuck it I’m replying directly.
I would like to put a quick disclaimer that I’m neither a music nor rap nor language expert I simply listen to sounds that make my brain go brrr. Furthermore this isn’t meant to tear other rappers down but to hype idol rappers up.
I am also aware that this post wasn’t meant to be taken that seriously but K-pop and to some extent K-pop rap is currently rent free in my head and what is Tumblr if not a void to scream into?
So K-pop rap is actually really good.
(In my opinion)
First of all the Korean language lends really nicely to rapping as it’s so syllabic? It sounds really satisfying (the opposite reason of why French rapping sounds good because of the way it runs together). And although speed does not equal good rap, you can’t deny Korean being rapped at high speeds sounds cool as fuck.
And of course some people will say ‘well they could be saying anything’ and that’s true but for me I don’t fully process lyrics when I’m listening to music, especially not rap even when it’s in English and I often have to google the lyrics anyway. Fortunately there are English translations of many K-pop songs so that’s that problem sorted.
People also critique idol rappers for not writing their own lyrics. Although this is true in some cases this cannot be a blanket statement. Off the top of my head, Hongjoong and Mingi of ATEEZ, Soyeon of (G)I-DLE and Bang Chan, Changbin and HAN of Stray Kids all write their own lyrics and there’s definitely more that I just can’t think of off the top of my head.
Another thing I like about rap in K-pop is that it isn’t the entire thing. I’d compare K-pop to Bang Bang by Jessie J, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj. People of vastly varying talents coming together to create good art. It also improves the rap verses, in my opinion it’s better to have a few really good verses and singing than having the entire thing being rap as in my opinion sometimes some songs can get a bit repetitive or overbearing (although this definitely isn’t always the case). Having these contrasts keeps the song interesting and can often improve the rap verses. Do you think Nicki’s verse in Bang Bang would be as iconic without Ariana and Jessie’s vocals before it? If it was just her rapping the entire time?
I also think this is something Western artists used to do, pop artists would often feature rappers who came in for a verse but that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore? Correct me if I’m wrong I don’t listen to the radio by choice these days and when I do it’s mostly ads and whatever Lewis Capaldi song they’ve decided to overplay that month.
Many K-pop groups often have multiple rappers which keeps things varied and interesting. One very clever thing ATEEZ does is having Hongjoong start a verse and then have Mingi following him. It usually starts off with Hongjoong’s iconic laugh and then he’ll rap, his style is very smooth? Very satisfying, kinda cunty. Then Mingi will rap and his voice is a lot deeper and often more aggressive. This works so well and they’re a fantastic duo. Two examples that come to mind are Deja Vu and THANXX.
This also works with rap line songs, for example Heyday (Prod. Czaer) by 3RACHA of Stray Kids, the three of them have such distinct styles that fit well together. Another example of idol rappers working well together is in another Stray Kids’ song: MIROH. In the lead up to the first chorus Changbin and Hyunjin take the rap line about until Changbin takes over the ending to the beat drop. It’s important to note that K-pop isn’t just about the music, it’s also visual as dance and performance is a big part in it. I like to think it’s somewhere between western music and musical theatre. So when most rappers are doing their parts they have some form of choreography or they’ve just been dancing, and having shared lines like that is a smart little way to keep the hype up and the quality of both sound and dance.
Another critique is that sometimes rap verses are shoved into K-pop songs and they don’t fit and they sound out of place and although this is correct sometimes they can enhance a song. I am talking about Pray (I’ll Be Your Man) by BTOB. At the very end with the rapping and then the baby I praaaaay over the top? Impeccable. It wouldn’t be the same without.
Also concerning the comment about the background some groups are very creative with it. In the song VENOM by Stray Kids they have like a comb in the background? Like if you were to run your finger along it? It’s very unique and not as annoying as I thought it would be when I first heard it. In Hongjoong’s verse in HALAZIA you have Seonghwa’s ethereal voice, kinda like he’s in a choir? In Shut Down by BLACKPINK you have the classical music played by the violin, I can’t remember which piece it was sampled from but it’s good.
In conclusion? Rap in K-pop songs fucks hard and sometimes it misses but that’s the case with everything in music. It’s sometimes great and it’s sometimes not.
I’m mostly writing this because there are many misconceptions about K-pop, many that I had, and that put me off listening to it and I’d hate to think of all the music I adore that I would just miss out on if I wasn’t shown I was wrong at that K-pop is more than Butter by BTS and The Feels by TWICE. (This isn’t to diss them, I like some of their music just not those songs)
But I can’t defend Hamilton (/j)
I’m not sure this entirely makes sense, I’m tired but passionate and I hope even if you don’t like K-pop you can at least respect it a bit more. Just listen to what you like, life would be boring if we tried to adhere to Spotify Wrapped beauty standards and would be more fun if we were listening to Hoshi pom pom on our morning commute.
I’ll link below all the mvs/lyrics for the songs I mentioned and bonus gidle song because I didn’t mention any of theirs specifically but it still slaps

A few decades ago, maternity wear was quite one-note. However, in the 2000s, things have gotten bolder, more colorful, and honestly, wilder. We love daring maternity looks, especially from our favorite celebrities on the red carpet. We’ve seen some sexy maternity looks, gothic maternity looks, and more, but we need to show some love to the wilder maternity red-carpet fashion that got fans talking. You may be asking yourself, “What makes a maternity look wild?” Well, a maternity look is a wild one if they make you do a double take, something that makes you go: “What am I looking at, and why do I love it?” While we’ve seen a lot of naked maternity dresses over the years, but even they can surprise us every now and then. From Rihanna’s unique maternity looks at Paris Fashion Week and the Met Gala to neon ensembles from Fergie, we gathered some of the wildest maternity looks from the red carpet since 1988.
