The Mitford Trial by Jessica Fellowes
Today I am sharing a long overdue review of The Mitford Trial by Jessica Fellowes @author_jessicafellowes @littlebrownbookgroup_uk #books #bookreview #themitfordtrial #mitfordfamily #historicalfiction
I’ve had this book sitting on my shelf for a while now and as part of my promise to myself to clear down Netgalley it has made a very overdue leap to the top of mount TBR at last. My (greatly belated) thanks to the publisher, Sphere, who provided an e-copy of the book via Netgalley. I also. bought the audiobook so this was part read, part listened to. Here’s what the book was all about: Source:…

Mystery/Thriller Monday
Tumblr media
The story takes place around 1920 in London and is about Louisa. She’s nearly their age, but still, becomes a nursemaid/nany sort of companion to the MItford sisters (who were apparently a real family, and, this is partially based on a real unsolved murder? Cool!). When a retired nurse is killed on a train, Louisa, Nancy Mitford, and a railway police officer are on the case, mostly because they also get all messed up in the mystery/murder.
It was a very in between (i.e. the two world wars) sort of novel for sure. The changing of mores and such. I hadn’t known much about the Mitford sisters, but, thankfully I didn’t need to, to enjoy the story, and, now I do sorta want to go find more information on both the sisters, but, also the murder that apparently also really happened. All around really fun mystery read.

Is it just me or is Coldshot not looking at the money here and instead looking at Jessica with an expression of desire?

Tributes to Maggie from the Downton Cast and Crew:
Julian Fellowes: “Maggie Smith was a truly great actress and we were more than fortunate to be part of the last act in her stellar career.  She was a joy to write for, subtle, many-layered, intelligent, funny and heart-breaking.  Working with her has been the greatest privilege of my career, and I will never forget her.”
Gareth Neame: "Maggie Smith was one of the greatest actors of our time and a much-loved member of the Downton family. In Violet Crawley, the Dowager Countess of Grantham, Maggie created one of the finest screen performances we have seen across six seasons of the television series and two movies, spanning twelve years. The entire cast and crew of Downton Abbey considered it an enormous honor to work with her, she was an actress of such stature whose incredible talent could encompass high comedy and full-blown tragedy. Off-screen she was particularly close to the cast who played the other members of her family and was very generous and full of encouragement for the younger actors. It is personally poignant that my late grandfather directed one of her finest performances in ’The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie’ for which she won her first Academy Award. Jean Brodie and Violet Grantham are but two creations in an extraordinary career spanning decades and delighting audiences across the globe. There is only one Maggie Smith and she will be greatly missed. Our thoughts are with her family.”
Hugh Bonneville: "Anyone who ever shared a scene with Maggie will attest to her sharp eye, sharp wit and formidable talent. She was a true legend of her generation and thankfully will live on in so many magnificent screen performances. My condolences to her boys and wider family.”
Michelle Dockery: "There was no one quite like Maggie. I feel tremendously lucky to have known such a maverick. She will be deeply missed and my thoughts are with her family."
Dan Stevens | Jessica Brown Findlay:

Alastair Bruce: "What a great privilege it was to work with her & play a small part in her creation of Violet Countess of Grantham. A titan of the filmocracy, Maggie embodied the aristocracy with absolute ease: she made us gasp, shudder and laugh. She was #TheBestOfThem"
Peter Egan: "Very sad to see that this giant talent has fallen"

And surely more to come in the following days (and some I've likely missed already, my apologies).

AU where Bo-Katan randomly winds up on Lothal shortly after Ezra's parents are taken and finds him and, well, she may not be one of those weirdo traditionalists but she still respects the ancient creed when it comes to foundlings so... guess she's responsible for raising a small child now! wait his parents are possibly alive? well now she's gotta go find them if they're still living and reunite him with them! but she can't bring a defenseless foundling on such a dangerous mission! who could she possibly trust to take care of him? wait doesn't her old bestie from her terrorist phase have a couple kids his age? heyyyyy, ursa, girl! long time no see! can you watch this kid for me for a little while thanks byeeee~~
and then the AU is just Bo-Katan's hunt for Ezra's parents, interspersed with increasingly frantic and/or furious comms from Ursa about how the half-starved traumatized nonverbal foundling is manifesting wizard powers. bo this is not funny. get back here and get your telekinetic hellion. he's helping my daughter put paint on the ceilings.
alternate endings include (1) Ephraim and Mira are alive and Bo rescues them and everyone lives happily ever after, (2) Ephraim and Mira are not alive and now Bo-Katan has to hunt down a Jedi to raise the boy and she ends up locating Kanan, (3) Ephraim and Mira are not alive and Bo-Katan decides that her best bet for Jedi Most Likely To Have Survived The Purge is obi-wan and so she goes looking for him, darth vader encounter shenanigans optional, and (4) Ephraim and Mira are not alive and Bo-Katan cares for Ezra herself and somewhere along the way he gets the Darksaber and well apparently bo is raising tarre vizsla 2 electric boogaloo. this should be good.

Calling someone with a Dune hyperfixation, please
Disclaimer: I am a casual fan of the first two Dune movies. I have not read the books. I have a question.
I know that Lady Jessica was supposed to have a daughter with Leto Atreides I so that the daughter could have a son with Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen. I know that she chose to give Leto a son, who ended up being Paul, and nobody (specifically Reverend Mother Mohaim) was happy about this.
My question is why did it have to be Jessica’s firstborn child?
I think I’m missing some context, because the way I see it, if Mohaim had just taken a chill pill and let Jessica have her fun and make her boyfriend happy, waited a few years, and then reminded her to have a daughter as well, some of this chaos could have been avoided. Sure, the plan would be delayed a few years, but Mohaim herself said that the Bene Gesserit plan in centuries. What difference would a few years make?
Is there some kind of dilution of ability that happens between the firstborn and the second-born child? Was the timing of Paul or the would-be-mother of the Kwisatz Haderach that sensitive and delicate? Was Mohaim just a control freak? I’m confused.

The opening half plot of Fallout New Vegas is can really be summarized as everyone thinking Benny was hot and coming to deeply regret it later.

I’m just saying get you a friend who you can write fanfic with and then you both get distracted during the editing process by randomly talking about Mrs. Doubtfire and why it’s the best Robin Williams movie for half an hour.
