[The Winchesters finale spoilers]
[first impression]
Speaking of happy endings…
John and Mary: complete and living together in Heaven.
Sam and blurry wife AKA EILEEN (thank you very much): married, raising a family together on Earth.
So which part of Dean’s “family” had an unhappy ending?
(yes I have legit been ugly crying)
Because all I can see now is how Dean went on that drive, skipping between worlds, looking for a happy ending for him and Cas.
No. Let’s say that again. Slowly.
Dean Winchester…
…got into Baby in Heaven…
…started driving, knowing Cas was free of the Empty and somewhere in Heaven with Jack…
…Dean thinking for sure Cas will show…
…right?…
…and when Cas didn’t…
…Dean was like well That Sucks…
…and went universe hopping to see if another world might have a different ending for them so that he could be reassured that it wasn’t over yet…
Ummmmmm. WHAT??
Where the hell are you, Castiel??? Your man is in pain!!! Also, Dean, the last time Cas spent a year as a multidimensional wavelength of celestial intent all you had to do was pray!! (and have a plot related prop to entice him with but that was a secondary reason and you KNOW IT) Stop avoiding having the talk!!! Omfg with these two!!!
I’m still processing. I’m in such shock and awe I keep oscillating between the two.
And Jensen singing: Looking out over the water/see as far as the eye can see/and I live and die another day to find you there/where did you go when I needed you?/you were gone and you left me all alone/but you were never alone, you told me/but here I sit with you on this stage in Rome
Don’t.
Don’t even talk to me.
Don’t look at me don’t talk to me.
Jensen literally went: Dean dies and then drives around Heaven finding that peace when he’s done while waiting for his brother and what? That’s it? Not even a proper nod to the greatest love story ever told??
NOT ON MY WATCH.

I don’t know how much this TW lawsuit can affect Jensen's career as a whole, but personally this whole thing left a bad impression on me. It's like TW is one project in his life where everything got wrong, not a single thing fell into place. I don’t know if it is his incompetence or misfortune, but for me TW is a black spot in Jensen's smooth career and he could be so much more better without it.
I mean, I do agree on it being a complete clusterfuck. But I also think fandom is blowing its importance absurdly out of proportion - because of its connection to SPN, recency, and fandom being fandom. In terms of the lawsuit, Jensen's degree of direct personal responsibility and how much anyone else in the industry will remotely notice let alone GAF. In terms of TW, how much anyone will even think about it in the grand scheme of things in just a few years. Actors have failed projects all the time and it's very rarely what they're remembered for.
As to Jensen's choices in doing it? From various things he's said over the years, I rather get the impression Jensen sees just jumping in and trying things as a way of challenging himself and exploring potential interests. He's got stories of doing it with acting, with directing, with music - which I'd say have all worked out pretty well for him. Except directing was on SPN after talking it through with veteran directors like Kim Manners and working with a familiar story/setup/etc. Music has been with Louden Swain and Steve and Jason who all together have a fair bit of experience with live performances and making albums. He got a known name in brewing to be their brewmaster at FBBC as well, speaking of trying things but getting expert help.
But then with producing/showrunning? He jumped into it primarily with ... Robbie and Danneel. Sure Robbie has some producing credits from SPN and there were other more experienced people involved at TW, but the three directly at the wheel? Barely had a driver's permit and it showed IMO. In not being prepared for the announcement, in the publicity and promotion in general striking a lot of the prospective audience wrong, in the story itself, yadda yadda. Which was made all the weirder by how Jensen talking about it never really seemed all that enthusiastic about it as a project (at least IMO) after being so ready to jump in without a more experienced showrunner in sight.
To this day my primary feeling about the whole thing is IDGI on any level. But I also don't really care any more about it than I do about Bloodlines or Wayward. Jensen is as potentially fallible as anyone else, especially when trying something new. This may be a complete aberration - or it may turn out that Jensen just isn't as good at picking/creating projects as acting in them and staying on SPN for 15 years kept it from being a factor 'til now. He'd hardly be the first actor that was true of and only time will tell as we see what else he does going forward.

TW is one of the best things, the greatest things, to happen to the spn universe and I am cherishing every hour of it. I love it. And I love it because I’m a fan of spn, because of its reflection on aspects of the main series, and on themes the main series touched on, but TW lingers in a different way or from a different angle. I love the new characters, I love the monster club group, and I’m appreciating the rumination on mothership themes. Like Robbie Thompson said, “shining a new light on new corners of the spn universe that maybe hadn’t been brought to light on the mothership.” I’m not on board for any one conditional reason beyond it’s pleased me immensely. If I had never heard of spn in my life, this series would catch my interest anyway and then it would be inevitable I would go and watch the og series. I would always wind up here.
With 6 episodes so far to ponder, just putting some love out there for Jensen, Robbie, Danneel, the writers, the cast, the crew.

Jensen Ackles and The Winchesters team promise to carry on Supernatural legacy: 'Trust us'
"It was full pandemic lockdown 2020, Danneel and I with three kids in a house and we're like, uh, we need to do something creative," Ackles, who executive produces The Winchesters, tells EW.
You remember the time: John Krasinski was hosting Some Good News, everyone was baking, and Patti LuPone gave us all a tour of her basement. "Almost every celebrity was doing something ridiculous in their house, and I'm like, well, I don't want to embarrass myself by trying to make a sourdough loaf," says Danneel Ackles, who appeared in later seasons of Supernatural and also serves as an executive producer on The Winchesters.
So instead, Jensen and Danneel decided to start a Supernatural rewatch show: They'd film themselves watching fan-favorite episodes and share their thoughts. And the idea was a hit! After shooting a pilot on their iPhones, the CW wanted to bring the series to broadcast. But when Jensen and Danneel realized that creating 10 episodes in as many weeks wasn't realistic, the idea died about as quickly as a demon during an exorcism.
But that experience had sparked something. "That kick-started Danneel and I workshopping ideas and it also put us in the Supernatural world," Jensen says. "Then we asked: What would be a story that I would want to see outside of the show?"
It's not the first time someone's pondered whether there were more Supernatural stories to tell. Over the course of the series' long run, the show tried more than once to launch a spin-off, first with Bloodlines — which followed monster families in Chicago — and then again with Wayward Sisters — which followed Jody Mills (Kim Rhodes) and Claire Novak (Kathryn Newton) as they led a group of women through the hunting life. Neither idea took off. So, what was left? "If you're going to spin off from this world, it's gotta be about a main character, it's gotta be about a Winchester," Jensen says. "I think it was Danneel who was like, 'Well, it's your mom and dad.'"
With the launch of their new production company, Chaos Machine Productions, in October 2020, Jensen and Danneel called Robbie Thompson to see if he'd be interested in serving as The Winchesters' showrunner. Thompson worked on Supernatural from season 7 to season 11, and penned some fan-favorite episodes, including the 200th episode, "Fan Fiction," and one of Jensen's favorites, "Baby."
"I remember very vividly [executive producers] Bob Singer and Jeremy Carver coming in and saying, 'The 200th episode is going to land this season and we want to do it as a musical in a high school where kids are adapting the Chuck Shurley books,'" Thompson says. "My first reaction was, 'Oh my god that seems so terrifying, I really want to do it.' I had the same kind of reaction when Jensen and Danneel pitched this to me."
Because what could be more terrifying than creating a prequel that doesn't mess with the mythology established by Supernatural, while still giving viewers something that feels new and unexpected? If Sam and Dean thought saving the world was hard, they should try rewriting it.
"A lot of people are like, 'Hang on, are you changing the lore? Is this like Back to the Future, where Dean and Sam are going to start to disappear in the picture?' It's not," Jensen says. "We obviously don't want to change anything that was experienced on what we lovingly call the mothership."
"It's a big ask, but we are asking the fans to go on this journey with us and trust us," Danneel says. "Everybody who's involved in this project loves this show. We have lived this show for 15 years; it's a family member. So just trust us that we're going to take care of it."
Thompson adds, "The Supernatural fandom's extremely passionate, but I consider us part of that. How do we do this but keep Supernatural exactly the way it is? That was the intriguing challenge to me."
For starters, you have to cast the right people. And you have to find them on Zoom. With the help of Supernatural casting director Robert Ulrich — and an estimated more than 30 hours of chemistry reads — they landed on Drake Rodger and Meg Donnelly. Rodger plays a young John Winchester, a bit goofier than fans remember him, just back from Vietnam and about to be introduced to a world where, as Dean once put it — or will later put it? — "Unless it's Godzilla, it's real." Donnelly is a young Mary, someone who's all too familiar with the life of saving people and hunting things. They're characters we know, characters we've seen played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Matt Cohen, by Samantha Smith and Amy Gumenick. But they're also completely different. (For one, I doubt we'll be seeing Mary in a pink nightgown anytime soon.)
"We talked about that contrast a lot. There's the Jeffery Dean Morgan John, who is amazing and complicated and dark, and then there's Matt Cohen's John, who was the kid who was abandoned by his father at four, at least from his point of view, and who went off to Vietnam early," Thompson says. "With Mary, it was who is the kid who, much like her own children, got handed a knife at such a young age and was told that the monster under her bed was not only real but here's how to kill it?Being able to dive into that and stay true to who they are but also show this different slice of their lives and different perspective on them has been a blast."
"She's not very vulnerable," Donnelly says of her Mary. "She doesn't like to show vulnerability, because she's gone through so much, especially as a hunter her whole life. She didn't choose to be in this world, and she's trying to look for ways to get out."
Although Donnelly admits she didn't watch Supernatural when it was on — "It was definitely too scary" — Rodger was a huge fan, and even watched the show with his brother. That's why he wasn't sure he'd want any part of a prequel. "When I came in for the pilot, I was like, 'Okay, cash grab. Let's see what we're doing.' I was so skeptical," Rodger says. "And then once I read the pilot, I realized pretty quickly that there's actually a story to be told here."
Unlike the show that came before it, this isn't a story of two brothers against the world. John and Mary find themselves more consistently working with other hunters. In the pilot, fans are introduced to Carlos (Jojo Fleites) and Latika (Nida Kurshid), friends of Mary who help them on their search. "We are embodying a lot of what Supernatural did, at the same time, Supernatural was a two-hander," Thompson says. "That family expanded as characters like Castiel [Misha Collins] and Bobby [Jim Beaver] and others came in, but we're starting with a larger family. Robert [Ulrich] did an amazing job of putting together some incredibly talented kids who have now all bonded and come together to form their own thing."
Together, they will take on monster after monster. Put another way, they'll take on monsters of the week. "A touch point for us was those early seasons of Supernatural. We will have a big bad for the season but we're going to do some classic monsters of the week," Thompson says, with Danneel adding, "That's the scary stuff. And we're gonna be scary."
For those working on the show, the scary part comes with legacy. Because joining the Supernatural universe isn't just about learning exorcisms and getting used to an endless supply of fan-made Gifs. It's about joining the Supernatural family, one of the most passionate fandoms out there. "There's such a unique relationship between the cast of Supernatural and the audience of Supernatural," Thompson says. "The actors are extremely aware of the legacy that they are stepping into."
And if anyone can help prepare them for that legacy, it's Sam and Dean. At this point, Rodger and Donnelly have had a couple "Welcome to Supernatural" talks over dinner with Jensen and over lunch with his former costar Padalecki, who isn't a producer on the project but has shared his support. "When we were in New York, Jared sat down with Drake and I and was like, 'If you ever need anything, I'm always here for you,'" Donnelly says.
Recalling what he said to the new leads, Jensen says, "There was probably a small pep talk. This isn't just coming on to a new thing, this is something that has 15 years of intense storytelling and you guys are a representative of this thing that we built, of the family. And there's a big population of people that are very protective of the story and of these characters and you are the new stewards of this and you need to understand the weight of that and you need to understand how important it is to treat this with care and respect." He then adds with a laugh, "Because I'm like, listen, I didn't work my ass off for 15 years to have you kids come in here and f--- it up."
(Donnelly admits she's already gone to Jensen for help with picking locks and the more complicated matter of dealing with a height difference between you and your costar. Jensen's an expert in both.)
So, with a support system in place, there's nothing left to do but dive right in. "You can't recreate Supernatural, you just can't," Thompson says. "What we wanted to do with this show was shine a light on new corners of the Supernatural universe."
And they're doing just that. Production is underway in New Orleans as they introduce a new John and Mary, before they created the two men destined to save the world. So, what's their story? That's what Dean wants to know. And if anybody's good at getting answers, we hear it's that guy.
The prequel's first season has 13 episodes to establish what they hope will be the first successful Supernatural spin-off. This time around, there will be less Sam and Dean and therefore, probably less flannel. But there will be monsters. There will be lore. And most importantly, there will be Winchesters.
The Winchesters premieres Tuesday, Oct. 11 on The CW.

https://hologramcowboy.tumblr.com/post/699366459770568704/youre-being-unfair-to-jensen-by-talking-his-show
Couple of things here...
"You're being unfair to Jensen by talking his show down like that, do you realize that a bunch of the things you are criticizing here were done 100% on purpose? Yes everything and everyone feels a lot like Dean, duh because this is the John and Mary winchester story as told by Dean"
So you're admitting this is a show made by Jensen for Jensen because he couldn't let go of Dean?? Cool. Also, YOU anon, are being unfair to the actual stars of the show by making it all about Dean/Jensen. They already got sidelined so the EP's could steal the spotlight during promo and now fans like you are doing it while the show is airing as well. You are sidelining the mains (and the poc sidekicks who are already getting done dirty by the show itself) in favor of Jensen/Dean. Do you not see an issue with this???? Oh and people are free to criticize if they want to, Jensen has been in the industry for more than half his life and if he can't handle it by now he's in the wrong line of work.
"Yes the romantic scenes feel way too cheesy like a soap opera, down to the music, and yes, John's infatuation with Mary feels odd and unjustified. But that's the freaking point! They are being forced together by divine intervention! How do you know this entire thing isn't a play put on by the Angels, just to manipulate them into falling in love."
Ok, well the problem with this is that you are making assumptions based on og spn canon which TW is clearly not following. Yea, the people who actually watched spn know that the angels forced John and Mary together, but at this point I'm not convinced Jensen or Robbie are those people. And we certainly know Danneel didn't watch. Plus why do they push the fact that its a "love story" at every turn if what they mean is "well, its not actually a love story because the angels are going to force them together but we're going to call it that anyways!!" That's not a love story, that lack of consent and free will which is NOT love. But again, this is all based on assumptions that YOU anon aer making. We know how it happened in the original show but TW doesn't seem to care about that so I wouldn't necessarily assume that's going to happen here too.
"just relax and give Jensen a chance."
Ya know what? No. No thanks. I gave him more than enough chances over the past year to listen to fans and course correct. Or hell, even take a modicum of responsibility for the whole debacle. He did neither. When the prequel announcement was made, before prequel-gate happened, the overwhelming response by most fans (including many who are now claiming they love the show simply because they have deluded themselves into thinking its somehow a "gotcha" to Jared) was "what? why? no one wants that!" It was only AFTER it was revealed that Jared was left out that some hellers and AA's got on board purely out of spite. It was a bad idea from the jump and fans were very vocal about that. And not just saying they didn't want it, they were very clear, concise, and detailed about WHY they didn't want it and what the inherent problems were. So it was all out there for the Ackles' & Co to source and see where they could maybe make some changes so the idea would be more accepted by fandom. Instead of doing that they doubled down on their bad idea. So if Jensen doesn't want to give the fans a chance and listen to their feedback (we've seen how he handles that... "hate watch", "if you don't like the prequel were you ever really fans of spn", etc) then I am done giving him chances. He's had wayyyy too may over the years and my goodwill towards him has run out.
Thank you for expressing this beautifully and candidly. I resonate deeply with what you wrote.

I don't have twitter and I'm seeing posts but a lot of them involve knowing what I'm looking at...can you pls explain the latest spn/Jensen news, pretty please?
Sure! Explanation of the events of the past week (some of these dates might be relative to my timezone, apologies for any errors):
JUNE 24: News breaks that Jensen Ackles and Danneel Ackles’ production company has a prequel in the works focusing on John and Mary Winchester; entire fandom displeased
Fandom ire at the prequel focusing on John and Mary momentarily overshadows the fact that it seems like Jensen Ackles has the rights to Supernatural (!!!) and has ‘five shows in the works’ of which this is only the first
Showrunner is Destiel fan-favourite Robbie Thompson, responsible for such Absolute Banger Episodes as ‘Meta Fiction’ (see more here)
A lot of blowback from absolutely all sides of the fandom - BiBros et al mad that it focuses on Not The Brothers, Destiel fans mad it focuses on Not Resolving Destiel, everyone largely mad it focuses on John Winchester (widely regarded as abusive) and the ‘epic love story’ of John/Mary (canonically forced by cupid magic)
Various cast members including Misha Collins, Jim Beaver, Jake Abel, Ruth Connell and Julie McNiven reply to the article with comments indicating they’d like to be involved
Eric Kripke tweets that Jensen and Danneel are ‘the perfect people’ to take control of this story and Jared is ‘too busy Texas Rangering’ to be involved
JUNE 25: Jared Padalecki tweets about being left out of the loop on the prequel; absolute chaos ensues
See this ask reply for a list of tweets, events and reactions
I’ll also add that this gets large enough to get coverage on Vulture, Variety and other news sources
Robbie Thompson retweets his tweet from 2019 saying ‘I ❤️ you #SPNFamily’ in response to… everything
JUNE 26: A scramble for Jensen, Jared and Eric Kripke to do PR damage control on the Jared issue. Meanwhile, Misha Collins does his best impression of this scene from the Lion King to promote GISH
Eric later deletes all tweets about the issue, which is VERY funny. Man can’t handle the heat!
Very funny contrast between Jared’s ‘have a talk, as we often do’ and Jensen’s ‘miss these talks'
Jensen later changes his twitter header and bio from Supernatural/Dean Winchester to The Boys/Soldier Boys which IS somewhat unfortunate and perhaps deliberate break-up related timing
Jared tweets that he ‘doesn’t want anyone to receive hate or threats’ which is like… Jared YOU started this, YOU tweeted this to your millions of followers
JUNE 26: Jensen Ackles does further damage control by tweeting ‘Canon? we got you’ and linking to this article about what the show might hold, which points out the Problems of John Winchester
See article for further details but this implies Jensen actually does care a lot about doing right by the fans and the narrative canon
This, combined with the fact Robbie Thompson is running it, convinces most Destiel-side fans that the show Might Be Better Than Expected and one CW-approved stepping stone to greater things
BiBros are furious because article is written by ‘known Heller’ Natalie Fisher, who is friends with writers such as Meredith Glynn and Robert Berens
Meanwhile, Steve Yockey references the ‘Steve Yockey is dead?!?’ tumblr meme on twitter in a reply to Ruth Connell
JUNE 27: Gen Padalecki posts an instagram story which may or may not be shady commentary on Jensen Ackles
However, yesterday Danneel Ackles also promotes the Padalecki MLM product on HER instagram - can I just say I simply love the use of a) product promotion and b) instagram stories as tools of warfare and diplomacy
JUNE 28: Various scripts drop thanks to the team at tumblr’s spnscripthunt (go support and fund their efforts if you can!)
Notable changed content includes Castiel telling Dean to ‘parent’ Jack in 14.16 and Castiel texting emojis to Claire in 12.16 (possibly an in-script joke about Dean being attracted to a poodle?)
JUNE 29: News breaks that Chaos Machine Productions was started as ‘Free Will Entertainment LLC’
The name was apparently changed in October 2020 - was that as a result of the 15.19-15.20 filming? Or something else?
The idea that Jensen set up a company called ‘Free Will Entertainment’ to continue telling the story of Supernatural is honestly BONKERS. A lot to unpack here to do with the textual and metatextual narrative of Supernatural that I don’t have time to get into, since there’s about twenty wild implications that could be speculated from that name alone
Stock price on ‘Jackles’ Sexy Silence’, conspiracy that Jensen didn’t like the ending of Supernatural and was quietly plotting to take the narrative under his own control, to bring Dean back to life and possibly to canonise Destiel, reaches historic high
The fact does not go unnoticed that, through coincidence or not, Jensen and Danneel registered the company on a Thursday very close to September 18, the Lazarus Rising/Castiel Anniversary Date when Dean was saved from Hell
JUNE 30: Misha Collins makes a social media post with Castiel art for the last day of Pride Month
Twitter post liked by Robbie Thompson
On his instagram, Misha also puts music on the story of ‘Can’t Help Falling In Love With You’ a song made famous by Elvis and then subsequently Destiel AU Fanfic Twist and Shout
“The song was initially written from the perspective of a woman as “Can’t Help Falling in Love with Him”, which explains the first and third line ending on “in” and “sin” rather than words rhyming with “you” - Wikipedia knowledge obtained via @jurisffiction
Falling… sin… But we don’t have time to unpack all of that-
JUNE 30: 8.17 Goodbye Stranger script excerpt surfaces with Dean’s ‘I love you’ to Castiel
Fandom has long known that the ‘I need you’ was formerly an ‘I love you’ because Jensen believed Dean saying it in that moment to Castiel was out of character - but we did not have the script to prove specific changes
Additional ‘I forgive you’ not included in the episode - the original scene reads as very romantic, since this was Dean absolving Castiel for past crimes and telling him he loves him in the moments before death, as well as ‘I love you’ of course being what ‘broke the connection’ of Naomi’s control
Notably this episode written by Robbie Thompson, the very man Jensen and Danneel chose to helm their next project
JUNE 30: Misha Collins misses his blanky text
To cap all this off, Misha Collins texts fans a selfie of himself at ‘the spare room at Jensen’s apt in Vancouver’, saying he ‘misses his blanky’, implying he has spent many nights there
It has been an open secret that Misha basically shared Jensen’s apartment in Vancouver since around 2018 due to [redacted dubiously obtained information] but it’s never been publicly stated (to be clear, this does not imply anything other than friendship, as actors in Vancouver often share accommodation and Misha had previously couch-surfed at Jared and Jensen’s places)
Cockles shippers go wild. Does the ‘blanky’ refer to Jensen? Was there a reason to send this on the last day of pride month? Will this man ever shut up?
Hope that helps! May this wild carousel of News About A Show That Ended Eight Months Ago never end!

Hi, Ary, very inactive ex-mutual(i think???) here. Good to see you thriving! ♥ It's been a while since I've dipped my head into cockles stuff. Could I perchance maybe ask uuuuum tf is going on??? lol I see Mish apparently confirmed he used to stay over at Jensen's in Van, and heard newbs were apparently freaking out about it and getting a bit messy, which I get that, business as usual. But I'm also seeing shit about spin-offs? And Jared getting in a twitter fight with Jensen, causing/resulting in stans to going feral and sending hate?? I know you're not as big a fan of Jar, but that's part of why I figured I'd ask you, you usually have a really level head about this kinda stuff. If you don't wanna answer publically, or at all, that's totally chill!
Hey, Rhi! We're still mutuals! Of course we're still mutuals! When I saw the notification of your ask, I was like "Hey! I haven't seen you in a while!" and my husband was like "???" and I said "Tumblr" and he said "Oh."
It was a wild time haha.
In any case, welcome back to the dumpster fire! We are obviously still a mess. So to catch you up, I guess I will start by summarizing both before and after the finale (not sure where you left off so this might be redundant for you) ... basically, it became obvious as the end of the show neared that Jensen was not on board with the plan for the finale; although Jared never stopped singing its praises.
We got confirmation of this during a zoom interview where Jensen said that he actually went into the writers room as well as called Kripke to basically voice how he didn't agree with the direction the final season was going, but he was shot down on all fronts. In another interview, he was asked "What would you tell your younger self going into this career?" And Jensen responded with: "I would tell myself to just keep your head down and do the work" meaning, "Don't try to change things because you can't." I also think that this whole situation is what he wrote "Let Me Be" about for his first Radio Company album, but that is just my own speculation. All of his reluctance, even though he always followed it up with "But I eventually saw the value in the script" or "I came around in the end" (which never sounded sincere, and I don't think he was really trying to sound sincere) made us all very nervous about what was to come for 15x20; and of course, when the last two episodes aired, we saw just how badly they fucked it up.
After the awful finale, the entire fandom became aware of the CW's heavy handed role in the thing, basically squeezing all the life out of SPN to shape it into a ramp from which Walker could launch itself. They not only erased all the love and joy and representation that Cas's love confession gave us, they also tore apart the things that made sense about the bond between Sam and Dean, making it really just about Sam-- and therefore Jared, which of course, Jared seemed to be fine with ... even though no one else was. Misha barely said anything during the finale, and a few of the other actors talked about the show ending in various posts, but Jared tweeted up a storm ... and Jensen? Jensen just sat in sexy-silent resentment of the whole thing. He didn't tweet, he didn't post, he didn't say a word once he no longer had to, and I think that's because he was already going full-steam-ahead on his plans for redemption.
Which brings us to Chaos Machine-- Jensen and Danneel's new production company that is being run by a queer creative director and has a mantra of inclusivity and representation woven throughout it's fabric; and apparently, the first story that Jensen wanted to tell through this new platform is the origin story of Sam and Dean's parents; so last week (?) he announced the upcoming production of "The Winchesters" -- the untold love story of John and Mary. Obviously, John is not the most likable character from the show, so the idea was met with a lot of resentment when it was first announced, but Jensen has gone on to say that he is excited to take on the task of telling the "true" story behind these characters-- the one that makes sense with the pre-established canon and doesn't reject it. So, given that, the idea is being mulled over with a bit more optimism from the fandom.
Who isn't being optimistic though?
Jared Padalecki.
When Jensen made this announcement on Twitter, many of his friends and coworkers congratulated him, but not Jared. Jared responded with a passive aggressive: "I'm happy for you, man, but I wish I didn't hear about it through Twitter." This of course, sent all the die-hard Jared fans into a tizzy and they immediately began asking him if he was serious (hoping it was just a joke-- we all hoped it was because there would be fallout no matter what one's opinion on Jared is). Instead of leaving it there though or just deleting that tweet, Jared went on to tweet some more, saying that he was being serious that he didn't know about the plans for the prequel, and that he was "gutted" that Sam apparenlty wouldn't be included (mind you, this a prequel to SPN... meaning BEFORE Sam and Dean were even born, so how could Sam be included? But Dean is apparently narrating this story so maybe Jared thought Sam should be helping to narrate it? I don't know). But Jared being Jared couldn't just leave that there, he then went on to tweet at Robbie Thompson who was announced as a writer for "The Winchesters" so then Jared went off on him too, calling him "Brutus" and a "coward" acting like Robbie betrayed him (speculation is-- Robbie refused to write for Walker, so Jared is pissed that he essentially chose Jensen over him). He did fairly quickly, remove that tweet attacking Robbie, but of course the damage was done at that point. And it truly only took his first tweet calling out Jensen for some people to be like "Jared-- that sucks if you didn't know but why are you saying any of this publicly?"
As you might know, Jared has had issues in the past with posting hurtful things on social media, and has even used it as a tool for attack before-- calling out customer service agents and public workers that he felt have wronged him, which is bad enough ... but for him to then do the same thing to his best friend of well over a decade? Many people who had once liked him or at least gave him the benefit of the doubt (I used to ...) stopped after this latest twitter tantrum.
However, some people have suspected for some time that J2 had a falling out either shortly before the finale or just after. Their public/social media interactions have seemed awkward, stilted or even non-existent in moments that they normally wouldn't be. In the past year, when Walker premiered, Jensen didn't say much about his friend's new venture other than a "Congrats. buddy" here and there. Later, we learned that Jensen refused to work on the show ... Jared said he make him do it, drag Jensen to the set "kicking and screaming" which made many fans quirk up an eyebrow because, why would Jensen put up a fight unless the two weren't as close as they used to be? And then Jensen moved his family to Colorado (either permanently or for an extended period at least) which is notable considering how he moved to Texas seemingly to be closer to Jared, even buying a house that was near his. All this was just speculation though; but it wasn't until Jared's tweet complaining about not knowing about the prequel that the theories behind them falling out, became less theory and more fact.
The day after his twitter tantrum, Jared tweeted again-- not retracting his statements or apologizing, but instead saying that he and Jensen "talked" and were "all good". Jensen then tweeted too, parroting this statement to some degree, which only made the whole thing even more sour in the mouths of the fans. The fact that Jared didn't apologize for his outburst and throwing his friend under the bus, and also the fact that Jensen-- Mr. Sexy Silence, Mr. Never Tweets, Mr. Tech-Ignorant-and-Proud, actually had to POST SOMETHING saying that he and Jared made up, it just screamed OPTICS. It was obviously the work of agents and PR firms and lots of people going "Look, if you two keep beefing, that will mean the death of both of your projects. Even more people will stop watching Walker, and this SPN prequel will never get picked up due to the scandal." So, the two "made nice" publicly to quell the chaos, but in my opinion, it's all too little too late. Jared started a storm that he can't contain now with a little tweet, and it seems like he knows that too because before he talked about him and Jensen making up, he asked that people "not send threats". He could have just as easily said that he shouldn't have made this a public issue and that he's sorry, but instead, he continued to play the victim and stoke the flames by alerting us all to the damage he's done.
Now, like I said before-- I used to give him the benefit of the doubt. I don't think he's an awful human or that he deserves to be attacked or anything, but he is an adult man with very poor judgment and an obvious selfish-streak a mile wide. He should know better, and he should have more respect for his so-called "friends" and "brothers" than to make them targets to public ridicule. I have a hard time believing that Jensen still sees Jared the way he used to, and I wouldn't blame him a bit for wanting to pull away-- especially when he's moving on to so many new and exciting things. Jared certainly deserves happiness just as much as anyone else, but he went on twitter and basically asked for a scandal, and he got one.
The question is now-- was there a motive behind it? Was just looking for a reason to bring his and Jensen's falling out to light-- while making himself looking like the victim in the process? Or did he genuinely not know about the prequel and just decided to go about "not knowing" in the most toxic and hurtful way he could manage?
In any case, that is the drama ... that is the J2 insanity in a rather lengthy nutshell ... that is the tea ... and I hope it all makes sense.
But the good news out of all of this is, Cockles is thriving-- they are happy and in love and Jensen calls Misha "Babe" and Misha misses waking up to see Jensen in the morning, and they are just as cute and wonderful as can be.
So, I will end that there. I am so glad to see you back, and I hope I answered all your questions in a way that made sense ... I tried anyway!

You know I'm excited about the theory of the existence of a prequel. But I soooo don't care about John. Like he seriously doesn't become interesting (as an antagonist to the boys in a way) until Mary dies. Like what? He grows up without a father and goes to Vietnam? Yeah I don't give a shit. Go cry about that in the basement. Mary however? She's my sweet girl and I wanna know everything about her. Like how she helps her parents on hunts, what her private life looks like, her interests, her yearning for normal that was still offset by her still wanting to hunt later. I also hate how it's always presented as the epic love story of John and Mary... THEY WERE SET UP BY A CUPID. There's literally nothing epic about that. It's tragic if anything, it's horror to be determined by heavenly powers to fall in love and even that was a struggle if we look at the fact they didn't like each other at first and later on their marriage was less than perfect.
So, yeah in short, I don't give a shit about John, only want to have a focus on Mary and this should be told as psychological horror, thank you and goodbye, Jensen, Danneel, Robbie, I have my eye on you.

What are your thoughts on the prequel? I'm on the fence .. cause while I wouldnt have chosen this prequel, if the show actually plans to address important elements (John not knowing the SPN, angels having to set up John/Mary who actually dont like each other, the angels in general playing an important role) plus the fact that nearly all supernatural-characters are technically alive and present
um. i mean..... i'm gonna watch it, obviously. i'm glad robbie is the writer because i'm a fan of his within the realm of spn. and i trust jensen and danneel with my life lol. honestly, idk how i feel. the thing i'm definitely excited the most about is getting dean back in whatever capacity!!! like, anything is worth that to me he is my boy he is my man. and i love mary, but as we all know john can go choke. and i don't like........ necessarily know if their story is something that needed to be told?? considering we already know it, and we got glimpses of it in the time travel eps of the show. i kinda feel like we got that covered. and i'm not really sure there was much of a demand in the fandom being like "i NEED to know john and mary's story!!!!!!" and i don't really see too many people invested in shipping them haha. also, idk how this is gonna go beyond one season??? it's definitely an interesting choice! i kinda feel like this show is rich with characters that we care about deeply - like the baneses or the wayward sisters or garth or the men of letters and how they got started. and like, idk. like...... the reason i stuck with spn for so long and the reason i watched the show after a certain point was for the characters, especially sam, dean, cas, and jack. so idk how invested i'm gonna be in the plot of this show if the characters i love aren't there (barring dean, again in whatever capacity.)
i definitely have my doubts, and i know i just listed all of them so this is gonna sound disingenuous lmao, but i am generally positive about it. (or maybe cautiously positive.) and i think this is just the beginning and we'll see more stuff in the spn world and i mean, it'll probably all ramp up to the actual show coming back after a few years. so, i'm excited to explore the world a little more. so, we'll see. i think i'm gonna reserve judgement until the show actually airs and i've seen it. i know there's a lot of hate going around about it and it's like - idk whatever. if you don't wanna watch it, don't. but there are people who are excited about getting spn back in some way, so let's just let people enjoy things lol

gonna vent for a second, i’m sorry. (i’m starting to treat you like my text thread to misha lol.) whatever comes of the prequel, i’m excited to see dean again and i trust no one more than jackles to bring him back to us. not to get emotional in the inbox, but it’s so obvious how much he loves that character?? can you believe he wants him back as much as we do?? to give him a chance to SPEAK. to exist again on his own terms. i know the narration thing is weird (it might be interesting!) and i think everyone is in their right to be upset and scared, but i really want this to happen (if it’s done well). i want CMP to have a fighting chance. it’s such a good team of people and this leaves potential for more stories. ever since i started watching, i’ve said how frustrated i was that they dropped amazing characters and storylines. or never explored intriguing themes enough. jensen’s even said it. now he gets to take the reins. we don’t know the j*hn and mary premise yet. we know nothing, and that leaves room for anxiety, but it leaves room for possibility too. the c/w, i know. the finale, i know. but there’s more creative control from trusted sources. no singer. no buckleming (god willing). and now a jensen who’s warming up to deancas and the ackles duo who clearly love misha. robbie who writes women well and might make this more mary centric. jackles and robbie are aware of j*hn’s shitty behavior too. we have so much evidence that we can trust them. we got burned before because people we constantly fought against were butting in. now hopefully most of those walls aren’t here to block our paths. obviously not the network (sigh) but there’s more wiggle room than there was before yk. are these words making sense? i feel like i sound too optimistic, maybe even naive. i promise my expectations are low, but i feel willing to give them the benefit of the doubt right now. i hope i’m right that this is his way to right wrongs and fill in empty spaces. to clear the path for characters getting justice, deancas actually seeing the light of day, and team free will getting their toes-in-the-sand ending, which will take time and some smaller water-testing projects like this. i don’t know. i wanted to boost morale and spread some love for this here. the finale left a bitter taste in my mouth, all of ours, and clearly jensen’s too. he said he wouldn’t touch the show if it was perfect, but now here he is basically expanding on it (for the better) because we all deserved to walk away satisfied. also just to see the characters happy. i’m cautiously, or maybe recklessly, optimistic that it’s at least worth considering. sorry for how long this got lmao. thanks for reading it, though, and i hope you’re well. <3
it's my goal in life to be treated like a text thread to Misha (maybe just not the one from me).
you are so right and you should say it ALL of THIS. this is the energy I want the fandom to send Jensen, Danneel, and CMP.
and dean, even if its just his voice, back on my screen?? NARRATING?! HIS POV, we are inside his head?! I am emotional in the inbox right along with you, nonnie. I think this is the perfect team to start this journey that Jensen has always wanted to take, and Robbie is the perfect captain to steer that ship with his incredible, nuanced, intelligent writing. I watched the panel with him and Rachel and the man cares. He cares about the show, the characters.
Most of all he cares about the fans. I am happy this is in his capable hands.
And if y'all think known Casgirl Danneel Ackles, who literally told SPN to create an OC character for her just so she could be in scenes with Cas/Misha, isn't going to involve one (1) Dmitri in this in some way? Pfft. Jensen voice 'what show have you been watching,' etc.
Thank you for sending me your incredible points, and sorry for being so long winded in my response :)
bumps don't stop us, send me an ask!

ROSE I AM FREAKING OUT HAVE YOU SEEN THE PREQUEL STUFF???? WHAT IS GOING ON, my god... I was literally about to go to sleep, decided to check Tumblr one last time and see this.... what WHAT!! WHATTTT!!!!!! I don't even know if this is good bad or what but just JENSEN IS PRODUCING A SUPERNATURAL PREQUEL AND DEAN'S GONNA BE THE NARRATOR OR Sth LIKE???? -🐸
YEAH i am normal about this <3 (jk i am also freaking out) welcome to: people screaming to me in my inbox about prequelgate ft. j/2 fallout theory. let's goooo!
Another copypasta and suddenly chaos machine is full on gay I love this prophecy
you know whats funny i just checked the j/2 tag and i feel like for the first time in a long time they are starting to realise that maybe THEY should be the ones who are "gutted" *sips tea*
ROSE HOLY SHIT ROOOOOOOOSE ITS HAPPENING HOLY SHIIIIIT
YEAH
Nevermind just read prequel and well good luck I guess but just you know kind of bleh who wants to watch John Winchester well let’s have hope anyways
i know a lot of people are bummed out but i am kind of very excited actually?? i trust robbie and even though yeah j*hn winchester turned into a nasty abusive bastard, it can be interesting to explore how it all started (imo). it's just the first of many stories they can tell.
I can only accept this circus if it’s Dean telling the stories to his and Cas’ kids and then we have a revival to show that the whole finale was in fact the end Chuck wanted there Jensen I fixed it
i would not say no to this
heyloo bee anon here
um- wtf is happening?
jackles prequel series?? why? i want to be excited about this but sheesh im scared
because supernatural is never dead <3
okay, but, jensen... john winchester ≠ jdm, you don’t have to go /that/ hard for him 🙃
true true... though i am waiting for jdm to comment on this, please i need it
WAIT A SECOND J2 FALLOUT THEORY TRUE??
LMAO HELL YEAH BESTIE
Rose you really picked the worst time to sleep for real
bestie it was literally 4 in the morning, what do you expect from me sdfjsfhsf
I can’t literally can’t we were all right LMAO j2 fallout theory is real and cockles (Misha supporting Jensen) is [gunshots] I’m just laughing cause what the hell is this timeline we’re living LMAOOOOOOOOOO
we would always end up here <3
Do we have the copypaste anons to thank for JP basically confirming the J2 fallout? lol 🦚
yes, everybody say 'thanks annoying idiots!'
ROSE, WAKE UP, COME HERE,
THERE'S A LOT GOING ON FFS
YEAH I KNOW BUT I NEEDED SLEEP
Anticipating that there's going to be a lot of yelling about the prequel on here: I am cackling, but also, I mean, the first time Dean got a look into his parent's past, Cas was the catalyst: literally entered Dean's mind and catapulted him to the 70s. So idk, it's not completely unreasonable to expect some Cas cameos, maybe setting up a parallel timeline since Dean is narrating. What I'm saying is, this is Jackles, he's getting JDM and Misha in on this lmao -Honeymoon Anon
you were right lmfaooo also i fully agree. misha's tweet further cemented that thought for me. he knew about this prequel and i dont think he is cas-baiting us, i think he'll be involved. i'd also be obsessed to see jensen and jdm act together again (though idk who jdm could play seeing as it's a prequel and he is way too old to play young j*hn)
longlivethetribbles heeft gevraagd:
Heyyyyyy bestie, are you SEEING the absolute madness going on right now holy shit
well a little late but I SURE AM BESTIE
bestie wake up pls s16 finale just dropped.
- 🍯
and WHAT a great one it was
I love coming home from work to see all of the chaos unfolding on Tumblr and Twitter. I'm absolutely buzzing right now. I'll probably still be here by the time you wake up and check tumblr 😂 - 🐢
lmaooo and were you still awake?? did you see my freak out??
Oooh bestie wake the fuck up, I know you’re gonna be excited for this one jsnsjsj
god i had SUCH a morning like. it's 12:00 now and all i did since i woke up is check tumblr rip
short summary: jen and dee gain the rights, they post on ig/twitter about a prequel ft john and mary that no one asked for, the fandom loses its everloving shit as usual, they trend on twitter thanks to the beloved twt intern who missed us, misha qt’s jen about cas possibly benefiting from being in the prequel, then j*red qt’s jensen abt how his feelings got hurt by him not being told about a prequel his character as no involvement in & he initially throws a tantrum, and the rest is history - 🦋 anon (ps: i hope this helps a little, i’ve been scattered brained trying to keep up with it all night lmao so pls let me know if i missed anything, bug crew !!)
thank you so much darling i figured it out eventually but this is a helpful summary!!!
I hope you enjoyed waking up to all of this XD -🐢
i sure did!!! also that answers my question about you being awake lmao
I WILL NEVER EVER EVER FORGIVE MYSELF FOR SLEEPING THROUGH ALL OF THIS DRAMA AND NOT EXPERIENCING IT IN PERSON I DIDN'T NEED THIS SLEEP - tea anon
well the party was still going strong this morning so im not TOO "gutted" see what i did there lmaooo
Now that you are caught up with the news... So idk if you remember this but...didn't jarpad tell jackles he was up for a reboot in an online panel? And jackles answered that this was news to him??
-🍯
yeah i think you are right but he was clearly joking and didnt expect jackles to actually be working on something already
J2 anon spare more of those anons let's finish this - tea anon
please, we're having a ball in this bitch
I saw a post on tumblr where someone said now that Kripke gave J&D the rights, maybe they’re starting with a prequel just to end on a reboot in years time and honestly ? I wanna believe that so badly. This is tinhatty but what if this is all calculated in a way that makes it so that Jensen is slowly starting to fix everything that was wrong with spn - now that he has the rights and he’s slowly making spn his own story ?! I mean he did say in his ig post he wants to ‘fill in the rest’ - and maybe Mary and John’s story is only the beginning of spn related content from J&D to come ??? Maybe he wants to give spn the justice it deserves ?? Thoughts ??
i dont think this is tinhatty at all i think this is very possible and not that much of a reach. i could see this happening yeah for sure
want to hear something funny. I found out I had a ruptured blood vessel in my eye because I was sending my friend a video freaking out when the prequel news dropped and I noticed the corner of my eye was red af. and when I got back online jared had tweeted.
DJFHSJD ANON THE CHAOS OF IT ALL, HELP, are you okay? <3
rose.. bestie... how are you feeling about The News? nsfshsf being european is a curse </3 🐞
i feel GREAT im living for it i feel on top of the world tbh (and yeah it really is dsjfhs)
What am I waking up to I can't WHAT I rested my eyes for like 5 minutes help *hits reblog button* - anon anon
yep yep essentially djfhs
“Jensen and Misha are Co workers who barley talk”
I can’t be sure of course but I’m fairly certain that this is the copypasta that brought the j/2 fallout theory back to life. Who’s apparently ‘barely talking’ now? skansjsjsj. It’s almost prophetic, these j/2 anons have superpowers I’m telling ya.
-poker face anon
next time we get one of them we should be thanking them lmaooo
ok, but are we gonna talk about the "When Daneel and I formed Chaos Machine Productions, we knew that the first story we wanted to tell was the story of John and Mary Winchester [...]"-quote because the way this is phrased implies they formed CHAOS MACHINE Productions with the intent of telling this story (first), i haven't been in this dumpster long enough but the name just tickles me in that Misha way, isn't it so sus??? am i missing something???? i mean with this announcement they SURE lived up to that name... 🧩-anon
you are absolutely right, chaos machine SCREAMS misha and we are all here for it!!
hey hey hey. joining the clownverse, there's no way THEE cas girl danneel doesn't know just how much the fandom loves misha and cas. so 2 + 2 = misha in the spn prequel!
AGREED
So I think I finally managed to catch up on wtf happened while I was asleep and my brain melted. What a shit show to wake up to.
Anyway thoughts.
I don't hate the idea of a Mary&John sequel. I think it has the potential to be good (It has the potential to be really bad too, so I'm kind scared).
🕯️🕯️🕯️ manifesting Mary being badass and John being kinda useless🕯️🕯️🕯️
As for the Jensen and J*red thing.
I can see Jensen not telling J*red even if they are still friends, because J*red is kinda good at accidentally telling Secrets. He could have told him right before he announced it so, so that J*red didn't have to find out from twitter. He was on the show for 15 years, he is bound to get asked about it. The public twitter meltdown was really unprofessional so. Like you have Jensen's number J*red. You could have sorted that out in private like a normal person, but instead you choose to act like a toddler throwing a tantrum.
Is it weird that I'm actually going to be kinda that for them if the actually had a falling out, even tho I don't like J*red all that much. They seemed to be really important to each other and while I thought before that the might have triefted apart a bit, I didn't think that the where actively fighting.
- 🐌 anon
the thing is, the polite/normal thing for jensen to do was text him before announcing it on twitter. it's weird he didn't, and that makes me believe that maybe yeah they did have a falling out. especially with the way j*red responded to it on twitter. if he had no other reason to be this upset (no prior beef or falling out) you'd think that he wouldn't be responding like this. on the other hand, the man is a mysterie to me so who the hell knows. i'm not gonna mourn about it if they did/do grow apart because j*red is just.... awful imo.

I can't believe I am saying this but I truly felt sorry for Gen after Jared's pathetic internet meltdown. It must be so hard to babysit Jared all the time. And If you think about it, yes, Gen is very fake but so is Jared. I was angry that Gen didn't care about Jared's public meltdowns before, but now I can see the reason and why. Imagine that you have a husband who basically acts like a 4 years old kid, who never learns or grows and acts like shit in PUBLIC and that you have to deal with all of his bullshits all the time. It must start to get tiring at some point, and that you just don't have the power to care about it anymore so you just act like it's not there in the first place because it helps to ignore since it's tiring.
I used to give Gen so much shit and I still don't like her and I think that she's also fake as hell, but I don't give her any kind of shit about Jared anymore. Nah, not anymore. Jared is worse than Gen, and his public meltdown proved that very clearly. His tweets made me cringe so hard I had to take a few hours from internet. I could feel the second hand embarrassment in my veins and all over my body.
It just reeks of entitlement, man baby and patheticness combined with manipulation, gaslighting and deceiving all over. Jared knows how rabid and attack-dogs his fanbase is. He knows how they act and how they react. And he knew that his fanbase would go after Jensen, Danneel, Kripke, Robbie etc and anyone involved or potentially involved in this thing. He knew. Then he has the audacity to come and act like he cares so much about people and think about their well-being, hours after the mistake has already been done and that he created this mess in the first place and started this hate and attacks. Talk about bad PR.
If I had a ''brother'' or ''friend'' like Jared, I wouldn't need any sort of enemy in my life. After all, when you have friends like Jared you don't need an enemy.
I went from thinking Jared needed saving in the marriage, to realizing that he was just fine in his marriage, to realizing that they're cut from the same cloth. They deserve each other, they're both selfish and allergic to accountability.
I will say that while Gen is a rotten person on her own, it does have to get exhausting to deal with the flack from Jared's baby fits. Though she seems to thrive on the attention from all the fans telling her how strong she is and how great of a wife she is for standing behind her man and being there for him.
Jared knew exactly what he was doing, so his "oh wow, don't attack people on my behalf!" act was a crock.

'The Winchesters' Team Explains How They Will 'Carve Own Path,' Rather Than Recreate or Rewrite 'Supernatural'
"This was obviously something that has been long-talked about: how to expand this world, what would that look like, how would that be done. There were two attempts prior to this one that unfortunately didn't make the cut, but here we are," said executive producer and actor Jensen Ackles during a Television Critics Association press tour panel for the new spin-off series.
Although Ackles starred on Supernatural for 15 seasons as one of the lead characters, he continues to confirm that he was never ready to put the world of the show completely to bed, only to "take a break" when it came to an end in 2020. So, when he and his wife, actor and executive producer Danneel Ackles, were in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, they "were forced to sit together and figure out how to be creative within the confines of our house," and as they were kicking around ideas, they landed on The Winchesters. After workshopping it, Ackles said he knew exactly who needed to write it and called him up to make sure he would be interested. That man is Supernatural executive producer Robbie Thompson, who now serves as showrunner on The Winchesters.
The Winchesters is a prequel to Supernatural, following Sam and Dean's parents as they meet and fall in love (and hunt monsters and demons together). Meg Donnelly stars as their mother, Mary Campbell, while Drake Rodger stars as their father, John Winchester.
"Obviously there's a version of these characters that lives very prominently in my head, and when we were going through the casting process, Drake really jumped off very quickly as something who almost seemed as a hybrid of Dean and Sam, not necessarily someone who seemed as a replica of a previous John Winchester," Jensen Ackles said. "This is pre-John turning into the person that we really knew...so there was an innocence, a youthfulness, and a thirst for life that Drake brought to this character that was really unique and refreshing, but it reminded me of somebody who could very easily be the father of those two brothers.
"And then with Meg...she's just such a pro she just knocked it out every time. There was a look and a confidence. I mean, look at her," he continued.
Danneel Ackles noted that she and her husband knew Donnelly very well because their children watched her movies for years, and especially during the pandemic.
"I could probably sing just about any song [of hers]," he said with a little laugh. "Don't test me because I'll never live it down. Meg was certainly somebody who just exuded something that we were all very interested in immediately. There was really no question. She's so strong...and there was almost a Dean-esque quality to the way she was playing Mary that I felt the role really needed, and nobody else was really bringing that. It caught all of our attention."
Set in 1972, the series begins when John gets home from Vietnam and sets off to learn more about his father after finding mysterious documentation with the Men of Letters symbol on it (although he does not know what that symbol means). Meanwhile, Mary wants to get out of the hunting life, but her father goes missing, and she has to find him before she can really move on. The show also features Jensen Ackles as Mary and John's eldest son Dean Winchester, narrating the story as he also hunts for more answers about his parents' story, something Thompson said he was excited to do simply because he wanted the opportunity to write more dialogue for Dean Winchester.
Fans of Supernatural know that Dean is born in 1979, but how Mary's pregnancy will be covered in The Winchesters is a "spoiler for season question mark," said Thompson. The first season can't get too far ahead of things as Mary and John are only beginning to orbit each other, while going on a road trip with some friends (played by Nida Khurshid, Jojo Fleites, and Demetria McKinney) to save people, hunt things, and learn more about their fathers.
Along the way, Thompson said, there will also be "some very familiar faces" in the first season of The Winchesters. After all, there are a number of characters from the flagship series who would have been around and hunting in 1970s. But they won't stop there with the Easter eggs and world expansion: "We also have plans to bring back not just familiar faces, but also younger versions of characters we maybe haven't seen yet," he confirmed.
What the show won't have just yet are genre-bending episodes, such as musicals, even though Thompson is also known for some of those on Supernatural, including the infamous 200th episode "Fan Fiction." The first season needs to establish the new world and its characters, but because he likes going big and because the cast is full of "a lot of kids who can play here and people who can sing and dance," he said, "we'll get to that down the road."
The Winchesters is not out to undo anything Supernatural already did, nor rewrite the world or its ending, Thompson said.
"It was a bit the expression, 'Physicians do no harm,'" he explained. "We can't recreate Supernatural. It's lightning in a bottle: Jensen, Jared [Padalecki], Kim Manners, [Eric] Kripke, everybody."
Instead, the show is out to "carve its own path" and only drop some clues as to where it's going and why certain things are different than Supernatural fans may remember or expect.
"There's some hints in the pilot and then there's some hints in subsequent episodes, and we have a little run at the end of this first 13 [episodes] where we start to turn over some cards. Our plan is to pull the curtain back in that 13th episode," Thompson continued. "We used Better Call Saul a lot as a creative North Star. Better Call Saul predates Breaking Bad, but it exists in its own little universe. ... I know people who haven't seen Breaking Bad [that watched Better Call Saul. But] because we are a show that deals with the supernatural and paranormal, we have a few more tricks up our sleeve."
Supernatural had a lot of ghouls, ghosts, vampires, demons, and angels to play with, but at its core, as Jensen Ackles reminded during the panel, was the relationship between the two brothers.
"If we could tell that with John and Mary, but also have this love story be the kicker, I just felt like that was really important," he said.
"Robbie and I use the Back to the Future reference quite a bit: We don't want the picture of Dean and Sam to be erased. ... We're trying to preserve everything we possibly can on the mothership," he continued.
While preserving that "integrity," they also want to "give this show its space" to be its own thing, which he admitted sometimes requires "tricky writing," the result of which you can see when The Winchesters airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. beginning Oct. 11 on The CW. While Supernatural earned a series Metascore of 60, The Winchesters does not yet have a Metascore. Click here to read a more in-depth discussion with Drake Rodger about playing John Winchester.

Jensen stood on the stage, Robbie and the boys of Louden Swain behind him, music pumping into his earbuds as he smiled at the roaring crowd. A wave of panic filled him as the opening notes of his intro music sent the crowd into a frenzy, and he tried to swallow the lump in his throat.
In the back of his mind, there was a voice screaming at him to turn around and leave the stage as quickly as he could. That would be the smart thing to do. Especially since his stunt was about to lead to career suicide.
But as he glanced to his right, he caught sight of Misha and the smile on the other man’s face took his breath away. With a shy smile, he looked down at his feet for a moment.
You can do this, Jackles.
It wasn’t a spur-of-the-moment decision that brought him up on stage during the con’s Saturday Night Special.
It started out as something he wanted to do for Misha. Which was totally the wrong reason to want to do this. But he’d had such a hard time after the show ended.
Truthfully, he’d been having a hard time the last couple of years, and Jensen knew he hadn’t made things easier. Misha had never shied away from his sexuality, while Jensen had still very much been in the closet except for a few close friends.
But the whole Destiel thing had been like watching a trainwreck you just couldn’t look away from. The network and studio handled things badly and forced Misha to take the brunt of it, even though it wasn’t anywhere near the scope of his responsibility.
But he did it.
And Jensen hated it.
There had been a few bigwigs in charge who hadn't known but highly suspected that Jensen and Misha had been an item. It wasn’t like they really hid it on set, but they didn’t flaunt it either.
Misha called their remarks whenever they were on set or at a con, a microaggression.
Jensen took his word for it, as he really had no clue, other than that Misha meant it was homophobic, even if they didn’t seem to be on the surface.
So, he wanted to do something for Misha. To show him that he was loved and appreciated. And that he was committed to him, even with the show being over.
Misha and Danneel were his forever. And he never wanted either of them to forget it.
He had spent long hours over the last couple of weeks leading up to Vegas Con, talking it out with not just Misha, but with Danneel and even Vicki. They, along with the kids, were his life. And he would never make a rash decision, especially a possibly life-altering one, without consulting them first.
But they understood what he wanted. And what it could mean for all of them.
And they were all ready to stand by his side, no matter what he chose.
So, two months after he first got that cursed idea, he found himself on stage, in Vegas for the first time since the show wrapped up.
What a clusterfuck that had been. He knew it was bad as soon as it had been pitched. There were too many ways that things could go wrong by the time they got to the finale. And boy, did they ever go wrong.
Not that he was against Dean and Cas ending up together.
Jensen snuck another peek at Misha and smiled to himself. No, he definitely did not mind Dean and Cas ending up together. They deserved to be as happy as he and Misha.
The only problem was that, as he suspected, by the time push came to shove, no one was able to pull the trigger.
They’d cocked the gun and pointed it, had Cas confess, but then the execs at the studio were on edge over the dailies they’d been sent. With a global pandemic knocking on their door, they were afraid to go with anything but sticking to the status quo.
Except the show had been anything but status quo for quite some time. They were just too slow to realize.
He knew some of it was personal bias but that most of it was business. Though they managed to screw up even that.
But he was at the con, and he was going to do what he could. For everyone involved who deserved some vindication. They deserved to know they weren’t crazy.
Jensen took a deep breath and looked out at the crowd and gave them the most charming Dean Winchester smile he could manage.
And it sent them wild.
“Hey, guys!” When the crowd cheered their own greeting back at him, Jensen grinned.
With another deep breath, he steeled his nerves and mentally nudged himself forward. This had been his idea, and he still knew and agreed that it was the best idea, but that didn’t make him any less nervous.
Especially since he knew he was about to piss off the studio execs who were footing a large portion of the bill for his and Danneel’s production company.
He was almost certain he could kiss that goodbye.
“Look, I know there has been a lot of discourse since the show ended, and even more questions. I wish I could give you all the answers you’re looking for, but I hope that tonight, we can clear some things up.”
He knew it wasn’t a lot, but he wanted to be able to give the fans as much as he could, as much as he was comfortable with.
“Wow,” he said with a chuckle. “I haven’t been this nervous up on stage in a long time.”
He grinned at Rob as the music morphed and the opening bars to a Taylor Swift song kicked into his ears.
Part of him felt stupid. This was a stupid song for him to sing. But it was fitting.
He didn’t like to be backed into a corner, nor did he like his loved ones to be put into uncomfortable positions. And that had happened with most of them since their twelve-to-fifteen-year tenure on Supernatural ended.
Jensen knew he made a lot of mistakes in the last decade, and tonight he planned on correcting some of them.
A cleansing breath went through his lungs as he caught sight of Misha again, who flashed him a grin and a thumbs up.
He could do it.
He needed to do it.
Misha deserved it.
Jensen deserved it.
Their wives deserved it.
He opened his mouth and as soon as he started to croon out the first line, his voice low and smooth like a fine whiskey, the fans erupted into such a frenzy. Jensen thought might never stop grinning.
“I don't like your little games
Don't like your tilted stage
The role you made me play of the fool
No, I don't like you
I don't like your perfect crime
How you laugh when you lie
You said the gun was mine
Isn't cool, no, I don't like you”
As Jensen finished the first verse of the song, he felt his confidence grow. He’d practiced - a lot. He knew what he was doing and he trusted the band to be there for him and back him up as they’d rehearsed.
They’d smoothed out some of the music, made it more fitting to his vocal style, and the crowd erupted as the music morphed into what was more likely to resemble a 90’s rock ballad than a Taylor Swift song.
In the back of his mind, he thought it was a little sacrilege, but he’d never admit it out loud.
“But I got smarter, I got harder in the nick of time
Honey, I rose up from the dead, I do it all the time
I got a list of names, and yours is in red, underlined
I check it once, then I check it twice, oh!
Ooh, look what you made me do
Look what you made me do
Look what you just made me do
Look what you just made me-
Ooh, look what you made me do
Look what you made me do
Look what you just made me do
Look what you just made me do”
Jensen soon found himself bopping his head along with the crowd.
With a grin, he turned and strode over to Rob, who shook his head with a hearty laugh.
“I don't like your kingdom keys
They once belonged to me
You asked me for a place to sleep
Locked me out and threw a feast (what?)”
This was it.
His moment.
Their moment.
Jensen is no longer looking at the crowd. He’s all but forgotten there is even anyone else there as he continues to sing without even thinking about it.
How could he think, when he found himself lost in the perfect storm of those blue eyes that stared back into his green ones?
He moved with purpose as he marched across the stage.
“The world moves on, another day another drama, drama
But not for me, not for me, all I think about is karma
And then the world moves on, but one thing's for sure
Maybe I got mine, but you'll all get yours”
And in one swift motion, he pulled Misha, who had taken his outstretched hand, and pulled him out on the stage and Rob picked up the vocals and sang the chorus.
They had taken a few steps back when they let go and Jensen’s hand reached up to cup Misha’s face while his left hand, which still had his microphone, snaked its way under his boyfriend’s arm and wrapped around his back.
Jensen gently pulled Misha against him, who complied, putting both his hands on Jensen’s hips as their lips met and lazily molded together.
They fit perfectly.
Kissing Misha wasn’t even something Jensen had to think about, it just came as naturally as kissing Danneel.
He was sure the crowd was going crazy, but all he could hear was the whimper he elicited from his boyfriend as their lips parted and Jensen’s tongue caressed Misha’s.
“But I got smarter
I got harder in the nick of time (nick of time)
Honey, I rose up from the dead
I do it all the time (I do it all the time)
I got a list of names, and yours is in red, underlined
I check it once, then I check it twice, oh!”
Jensen pulled away, hand sliding down to Misha’s shoulder, breathless as always when Misha is near.
“I love you, babe,” Jensen whispered as he looked into Misha’s shining eyes that threatened to spill tears. Because even though he knew what Jensen was planning, it was real, at that moment, and Jensen could see that it was hitting Misha harder than he could have imagined.
His heart swelled as he moved his hand from cupping Misha’s shoulder to wrap around the back of his neck and pull him into a hug.
As he turned their bodies to face toward the crowd, Jensen smiled, his own teary eyes taking in the crowd that had gone wild, and dropped a soft kiss onto the top of Misha’s head.
With a grin, he stepped back and glanced over his shoulder to see Rob grinning at him. He threw the other man a wink as he gave a nod of appreciation for all his support and love not only given to him, but to Misha.
As he turned his gaze back to the crowd, a wicked grin spread across his face as he tilted his head at Misha, who was still securely snuggled into his side, and brought the microphone back to his mouth.
“Ooh, look what you made me do
Look what you made me do
Look what you just made me do
Look what you just made me-
Ooh, look what you made me do
Look what you made me do
Look what you just made me do
Look what you just made me do”
Jensen couldn’t help but chuckle into the microphone as he caught Misha’s eye roll. Of course, the older man thought he was being over the top and more protective than he needed to be. But he also knew how much it meant to him.
The look in his eyes, at the unshed tears and the smile that went on for miles, was all Jensen needed at that moment.
He knew he made the right decision. His family was more important than some job. There were plenty of things he could do besides acting or having a production company, if it actually came to that.
There was the Family Business Beer Company, there was Radio Company, not to mention the profits they turned from renovating houses and flipping them. And it wasn’t like the studio or network could now retroactively go back and undo the contract he already had for residuals from the show.
Jensen tried to swoop in and steal a kiss, but Misha let out a shy laugh and playfully pushed his face away as he gave one of his patented not-so-subtle winks. He immediately found himself letting out a chuckle as he let his arm fall from Misha’s shoulder and took a step forward, really paying attention to the crowd for the first time.
They were on their feet still, and going wild. All the bright lights from the cameras snapping pictures was a little much, especially since there wasn’t supposed to be flash photography, but he couldn’t find it in him to complain about anything at the moment.
As the bridge was about to kick in, he motioned with his hand for the crowd to join him.
“I don't trust nobody and nobody trusts me
I'll be the actor starring in your bad dreams
I don't trust nobody and nobody trusts me
I'll be the actor starring in your bad dreams
I don't trust nobody and nobody trusts me
I'll be the actor starring in your bad dreams
I don't trust nobody and nobody trusts me
I'll be the actor starring in your bad dreams”
He was grinning like a loon as he dropped his arm to his side, but he really didn’t care. Especially as he made his way back over to Misha and slid his hand home within Misha’s. They were a perfect fit.
“(Ooh, look what you made me do)
(Look what you made me do)
(Look what you just made me do)
I'm sorry
But the old Jensen can't come to the phone right now
Why? Oh, 'cause he's dead (oh)”
He knew he’d get in trouble for it later, but with a dramatic flourish, Jensen held his arm out in front of him and let the mic fall to the stage.
What were they going to do? Fire him?
As Jensen stared into the endless pools of Misha’s blue eyes, he didn’t really care what they did anymore.
He was going to do what he wanted, what felt right . And not let anyone else tell him differently.
And at that moment, all he wanted to do was kiss Misha.
His movement caught the other man by surprise, as he reached over and put one hand behind his back, and one behind his head, and gave him a slight dip before he leaned down and claimed his lips.
When they came up for air, they didn’t even realize there was anyone else in the room. They only had eyes for each other as they reached for each other at the same time, took each other’s hand, and walked off the stage as Rob and the band finished out the song.
Ooh, look what you made me do
Look what you made me do
Look what you just made me do
Look what you just made me-
Ooh, look what you made me do
Look what you made me do
Look what you just made me do
Look what you just made me do
Ooh, look what you made me do
Look what you made me do
Look what you just made me do
Look what you just made me-
Ooh, look what you made me do
Look what you made me do
Look what you just made me do
Look what you just made me do

June 24, 2021: SEASON 16 FINALE
Jensen Ackles announces that he, his wife, Danneel, and ex-Supernatural writer Robbie Thompson are executive producers for an in-development Supernatural prequel show called The Winchesters, focusing on the "epic love story" of John and Mary Winchester. No one wanted this. [source]
However, every cloud has a silver lining. J*red Padalecki takes to Twitter and, in a spectacularly unprofessional series of tweets, reveals that this is the first time he is hearing of a Supernatural spinoff, and is incredibly upset that he was not previously notified and thus will not be appearing in the new show. In other words, J2 Fallout Theory Real! I’m so enamored with these tweets that I’m going to embed them as images, rather than link them, just in case any of them get deleted (in fact, the third actually was deleted shortly after J*red posted it).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
At some point he makes another tweet saying he appreciates the support but would be soooo so sad if anyone involved was "harmed or threatened" (a tweet which many have pointed out sounds like it ought to have a winking emoji on the end).
Tumblr media
After this, many other Supernatural alumni (Ruth Connell, Julie McNiven, Jake Abel, Misha Collins, Eric Kripke-- possible others I've forgotten) congratulate Jensen on the prequel, making lighthearted jokes about finding ways to get their own characters on the show. No one connected to the show publicly interacts with J*red's tweets.
On Tumblr, we have a ball.
June 25, 2021
Jensen and J*red post on Twitter, claiming to have talked it out and made up.
Tumblr media
Note 1: J*red has yet to apologize to Robbie Thompson for calling him a coward.
Note 2: Some have found it interesting how J*red says they talk often, yet Jensen's reply seems to imply that they haven't spoken in a while.
Since then, Eric Kripke has apologized for a tweet congratulating Jensen. As of now he has deleted both the original tweet and the apology tweet. Jensen's lesbian aunt has started flaming J*red stans on Twitter. Right-wing columnist and former Trump advisor on the 2016 presidential transition team, A.J. Delgado, has also leapt to J*red's defense. Eagerly awaiting further developments.
Hope this helped <3 mwah
