I used to think that only certain stories could lend themselves to music, but that has changed. There's a musical about Mean Girls, Heathers, Dracula, Jekyll and Hyde, even Shrek. So my mindset has changed. Get the right songwriters and scriptwriters behind it, and ANYTHING could become a musical. So what do you think? What would you like to see as a musical?

in light of the wicked hype and the talk of more broadway film adaptations in the future, this is my official nomination for the next big project

I'm still thinking about how different adaptations of Jekyll and Hyde have inspired each other, the novella inspiring plays inspiring movies inspiring the musical... and how that game of telephone absolutely peaked with Val Caniparoli's ballet adaptation in 2020.
It was a beautiful, chaotic combo of the Broadway proshot of the musical, some Jekyll/Hyde fanfics from AO3, and skimming through the Wikipedia articles for the original novella and R. L. Stevenson himself.
It was a mess and I loved it, what else can I even say.

I’ve realized “Baritenor Having A Complete Mental Breakdown” is my favorite genre of music, so if you can reccomend me any more baritenors in crisis I’d love you

Someone needs to draw Jekyll and Hyde as the phrase "a wolf in sheep's clothing".

The way I have studied this musical since 2016 and have made it one of my longest standing hyperfixations is worrying, because I swear on my rare musical merch I have so many opinions and so many words. I love this musical so much that I plan to audition for a show a company 2 hours away from me is putting on. That is the closest I have ever gotten to being in or seeing this musical.
I have also convinced myself that the musical imploded cause of horrible casting decisions, because, like, HOW CAN YOU GO FROM MULTIPLE AWARDS AND BREAKING RECORDS TO NOW NOBODY’S EVER HEARD OF IT. More people have heard of WAY more niche musicals and it’s baffling to me. WHY oh WHYYY did they have to make the TV special that ALL OF AMERICA COULD SEE be the one with Hasselhoff. Why. Why did he have to be the one. To be frank, he sucks ass as this lead. Like, he’s maybe ok at singing, his acting is cheesy and hammy, and he is just absolutely not fit for that role at all. He’d do fine in an ensemble, but not the lead. He cannot bounce between tenor and baritone effectively, he does not sound or look like a different person when he “changes”, unlike Cuccioli and Warlow, his vibrato is out of control… I could keep going, but I won’t unless someone wants to hear it in dm or something lol.
And with the revival??? Why did they have to change the aesthetic??? Why did they have to make it over sexualized AND steampunk?? IT’S A GOTHIC MUSICAL!! IT IS NOT A PUNK ROCK CONCERT!! IT IS IN THE EXTENDED TITLE!!! I could go on forever about this. I am so mentally ill. I wrote a 4000+ word, 10-page, cited paper for fun about how it could be properly revived for broadway and although some of my thoughts and ideas have changed, I will definitely die on quite a few hills with the opinions I have. I’ll likely rewrite that paper over the summer or even make a video on YT discussing it, cause I wanted to make a Jekyll & Hyde iceberg video anyway. In any case, thanks for listening to my TED talk.

i have wrapped myself in melodies like a lost child in blankets for a long as i can remember. blindly, i have felt my way through labyrinths seeking the safe havens beneath the organ listening for the red flares of the sun seeking the face, my prosopagnosia will not lose in the mall and the voice my synesthesia loves to paint with. dutifully, i have imagined flying picking up the broom in my hands belting as loudly as i can and soaring far above the clouds - painting my skin green because it is passable the only "girl's" role i have ever wanted. fearfully, i hide beneath the table, dodging bits of smashed glass. sometimes, the doctor and i lie side by side and wonder what not lying by omission might feel like. at other times, the creature and i discuss what it might mean to be loved. lovingly, i cradle their faces my parent's hands cupping each school boy's cheeks, as i memorize voices singing "drink with me; remember my life means something." names, i do not remember, but the songs, their communion, i know. note by note, i sing myself a home: an underground lake, a castle in the west a disheveled lab armchair, a house on rue plumet, and - when i am sad- i run home to the music notes that have made me who i am. in the labyrinth, i defy gravity, and feel alive; for they tell me "who am i?": a musical medley of a life of near thirty years - p. s. shuller.

What about crossovers with Jekyll and Hyde?
As an example, the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.
I've honestly never gotten super into that one, I'm partial to the book and musical. But y'all seem chill.
It's just Glass Scientist fans that I have beef with... You guys know what you did >:(
(It was one person on Amino in like 2019 that was in that fandom and they pissed me off to such an extent that I vowed to never ever get into Glass Scientist, lest they win.)

Yall, I need an honest opinion. Which version of Dr.Jekylle and Mr.Hyde's Confrontation is better? Anthony Warlow's concept for it, or the official Broadway release? I know where I stand *cough* *cough* Anthony Warlow! *cough* What's your take?

i just listened to the entire jekyll & hyde 1995 musical on spotify and like...i'm obsessed. one of the best things i've ever listened to?? like EVERY SONG? THE CONFRONTATION?? the lyric writing is insane, the score, the SAME dude singing jekyll and hyde but sounding completely different...i'm mindblown
i own the book and have planned to read since forever (esp after listening to this omg) and was wondering if people know of any good movie/show adaptations (musical or otherwise) of jekyll & hyde? and GOD DID THEY EVER RECORD THE CAST ON STAGE??? I CAN'T IMAGINE HOW COOL THIS IS ON STAGE
