Hiya! I love the Marauders but have yet to dive into the world of Regulus, Evan, and Barty.

If you have a moment, would you be so kind as to briefly introduce them to me? There's so little material in canon and I'm wondering if the fandom has decided upon traits for them.

There’s so much to unpack here and I don’t think I’m the best person to do this BUT I’ll try

So, in canon, Regulus Arcturus Black is a pure blood Slytherin and the younger brother of Sirius. He died at 18, trying to get Voldemort’s horcrux.

Bartemius Crouch Junior is also a pureblood Slytherin, and he was Mad-Eye Moody in the fourth book.

Evan Rosier is a pure blood Slytherin and Moody killed him as he fought instead of going quietly when arrested. (They were all Death Eaters)

HOWEVER in FANON

Regulus may have a good relationship with Sirius. If he had an animagus, it would be a black cat. On the outside, he would seem very cold and mean, but he’s really soft on the inside. He does have trust issues (i think) and the person he’s closest to is Pandora. Yes, he will threaten to hex and curse you, but unless you piss him off, there’s a chance he won’t (THE CHANCE IS STILL THERE). His common nicknames are Reg and Reggie and he’s headcannoned (hc) to be pretty short, unlike canon.

He’s commonly shipped with James (ship name: starchaser, sunseeker, Jegulus), Lily (Regulily), or both (Jegulily, Jelly). Rarer ships include Bartylus and Moonwater (Remus and Reg) and more.

Barty is described to be very chaotic and always up to no good. And with this he often drags his best friend, Evan, with him. He’s quite clingy and he does pull pranks if he wants to. Mind you, he’ll always get revenge. He’s also a pyromaniac and can set anything on fire. His animagus is a raccoon (i think so anyway). Nicknames include Bat and Bart

He’s commonly shipped with Evan (Rosekiller, Darkrose). Rare pairs are Bartylus, Party (Peter), Darksun (James) and more.

Evan is quite chill but he’s also pretty chaotic, considering he’s Barty’s best friend. Pandora is often hc as his twin sister, so Evan Rosier and Pandora Rosier. His animagus would be a fennec fox or a crow (to me). He’s hc to be quite possessive (TO ME) so he and Barty goes pretty well. Nicknames include Ev, Evvy, Evangelical, Rose, Rosie.

He’s shipped commonly with Barty. Rare ships are Regulus and Evan (idk their ship name), SunStarRoseKiller (James, Barty, Reg) and more

They’re all part of the Slytherin Skittles (or Pantheon or Vipers) with Pandora and Dorcas Meadowes.

I mean, there are such a few rare pairs that I really hate, and I accept most of them and sometimes reblog fanart and stuff for a lot of them… but my favourites might be Sunrose (James x Evan), Sunkiller (James x Barty) and Jegulily. And hear me out on this one, but I kinda see James x Peter when they were kids. I’ll get back to that!

Idk, I just stumbled across this cute post once about how no one understood Evan the way James did and since then I’ve had a soft spot for the ship for them two. The post headcannoned that they always had quite deep discussions about emotions and stuff and when Evan was at his worst and needed a break from the chaos that is Barty, James was who he turned to. And I just melted 🫠

For James and Barty, I headcannon that they’re both bipolar (I kinda hc that Sirius is too) and they might not know their exact diagnosis, but they relate to each other with the struggles it brings and they find comfort in each other. In public they’re crazy and pranksters and sometimes do things no one else will ever understand, and alone they open up and talk and fall in love ✨

Jegulily. This one is mainly because I saw this badass piece of fanart for them once which included kisses and an absolutely stunning Lily who gave me the finger through the screen. I reblog it every time I see it XD

I mean, I like Jegulus (scratch that I LOVEEEEEE JEGULUSSSSS), and Jily will always have a place in my heart, and in a way I think that Jegulily would make sense in canon. Ya get what I’m saying?

For Peter and James, I think they were childhood best friends long before Hogwarts, and that they did everything together. Who can blame Peter for falling in love with his best friend? I’m not sure if I hc them actually getting together or nah, but in the end it all couldn’t continue. They began Hogwarts and James got a bunch of new friends, and Peter had to adapt to that. Must have been a hard time for him :(

How I Feel About This Character: I'm in love with her. I don't really write with her a lot because I get overwhelmed when I need to write more than two characters... which is most of the time, but I've written in her pov twice and I loved it both times. I like getting inside her head it can either be a really fun place to be (cowboys) or it can be awful and tragic (dorlily). I love writing her having a hard time coming to term with her sexuality I think it's an interesting thing to explore. And the chance for sister angst is a lot. I find myself not able to fully delve into it but if I did oh it would be awful. I love her.

All The People I Ship Romantically With This Person: Okay so I go through phases when it comes to shipping so I'm gonna just go down in no particular order.

Pandora: Pandalily was my first Lily ship that I actually really loved I love those two they are everything to me. I love them being a little insane together.

Dorcas: This is on the newer side but oh they are a tragedy they never really work out and I love them so fucking much for it. I've also put Pandora, Dorcas AND Lily in a throuple and that is fucking good. They balance each other out a lot I think it works.

MARLENE: Newest obsession as why it's in all caps. This is the one ship I could never understand with Lily I didn't get it. BUT NOW I DO. They are everything. They are childhood friends who went away from each other and came back and everything was different but there was just this something there was that spark that never went away. They could go to the ends of the fucking earth for each other. They would destroy the world if it meant that the other person was safe. Going with the headcannon that Lily went into dark magic to save Harry... her realizing that she can use dark magic to bring marlene back to life she could literally ruin her entire self and body to save marlene. that's all. im in love with them your honor

Regulus: This one comes and goes, right now it's gone. But I have written regulily and that one shot is everything to me. I think they're very insane about each other, and the devotion they have for each other is indescribable. They are just insane. Regulus would crawl through hell to get Lily back to him.

James: Okay maybe I'm feeling jily right now. I don't think I'd ever write for them unless it's jegulily, but idk I see some fanart and maybe I get it. They're cute. They fit together. And I've enjoyed every fic I've read for them so there's that.

My Non-Romantic OTPs for this ship: I forgot about this part! Okay so Remus. That's all I love Lily and Remus together. I also really like Lily and James as platonic I do like them romantically too but there's something about platonic Jily that just gets me. Whether they break up and remain friends or James just gets over his crush and they become friends they are everything to me.

My unpopular opinion of this character: This doesn't have to do exactly with her but I don't think people talk about the whole Snape thing enough. They just ignore she was friends with him, or put it off as it was a short while and then she moved away from him, but I think you're wrong. I haven't written canon or have even written Snape so I'm included in this, but I just think of a Lily who tried to cling onto Snape for as long as she could. Who even after she said she wouldn't ever talk to him again wanted to talk to him and reach out. She has such mixed emotions for him, because for a while it was all love and she's not sure where that hatred fits in. Snape doesn't just go away is what I'm saying. And She hates that. She wants him to go away. She never wants to think about him again she just wants to be done but it doesn't work like that. So maybe she never actually tells anyone the thoughts she's having, but she still has them.

One Thing You Wished Happened To This Character In Canon: Well... she's dead the entire time 🤷‍♂️ but I think it would've been interesting if she fell into dark magic and that's actually how Harry was saved. It was still love but different. She loved him so much she threw her body into destruction. She was basically just killing herself for Harry. It's still love, but not as innocent as Harry might've thought before. Maybe he goes back to Godric's Hollow and finds her collection of darker books, or finds other remnants of it. That realization could've been interesting, like realizing that there was much more to his mom than he realized. She threw herself into the unknown knowing she would be ever-changed and did it anyway because of Harry.

Regulus would oppose but politely because he's only a sarcastic dick (endearing) around people he's close to. James would find it hilarious and always encourage the shirts to be worn. And Lily would find it kind of tacky but very sweet and also funny and join James in forcing Regulus to wear the shirt (even though all of them know he does love it really)

why do people act as if reg and lily have no way of working out ever? whether that’s in jegulily, or just regulily, or even platonically?

of course, fanon is different for everyone, so maybe it really doesn’t work for some people, but i feel like there are general characterizations here for most people to at least see some of the connections.

like for example:

reg and lily are both usually depicted as very intelligent and scholarly and all that. they could bond over that if you let them.

reg is often made into a prefect, and lily was a head girl, so it’s not as if there was no chance of them running into each other in those situations.

they are both the younger sibling who have a… difficult relationship with their older sibling. the bonding potential that has? ASTRONOMICAL.

both lily and regulus, in most fanon interpretations, have no problem rejecting james and acting annoyed by him (or genuinely being annoyed by him). it normally takes a while for lily or regulus to warm up to james, for more or less the same or similar reasons.

like… imagine them whispering about james’s latest shenanigans together, to varying levels of annoyance and fondness, but just blankly staring at james whenever he tries to get into the conversation.

some people also bring up that he was a death eater and she would never give a death eater the time of day, to which i say: since when have we given a fuck about canon? if we can turn barty and evan into babygirls, i think we can have au’s where lily and regulus don’t hate each other and actually maybe like each other.

there are ways for them to work in any way you want them to, just like there are ways for any ship to work if you want them to.

i don’t get why it’s such a problem coming from a fandom that literally makes up everything. after all the headcannons we pull out of our asses, lily and regulus kissing is where you draw the line? really?

The Valkyries are the girls like Marlene, Dorcas, lily and Mary (I think that's all of them). Mary is aroace, Marlene cut her own hair at late hours of the night. You'd just go to the bathroom at 2am and she's in there chopping away (me). Lily was good friends with Remus, and Dorcas knows tarot (taught by Pandora)

Also I love all your head cannons so much.

Personally I think Peter would be off doing random shit all the time too. He'd come back from being gone all day and be like, me? Oh I was off teaching a Hufflepuff how to cook pastries. He also paints/draws/does any kind of art (tcoptp gave me that one). And he like chess (art heist baby). Personally I like to headcannon James as Indian, and he absolutely was a horrible roommate. Left dirty smelly socks all over the floor. I also agree on Jily jegulus or jegulily. Sirius I think was super dramatic and would transfigure a normal couch into a victorian era fainting couch just to fake faint on it. He's shortish, whereas Remus was super fucking tall. (I have so many Remus hcs I'm gonna have to pick my favorites)

But Remus I think had two stashes of chocolate and candy. One was communal and he didn't care who took from it. The other one was secret and absolutely no one knew about it cause they'd all sneak one or two if they did. It's hidden under his bed and it's mostly just his favourite chocolates (that's the only hc I've come up with all on my own). Also he's dyslexic.

Skittles, I think Barty had dark brown/black hair with part of it dyed green, and hes super physical in the ways he's shows affection. Like running at you and tackling you in a hug, squeezing you so tight you can barely breathe. He absolutely loves to cause chaos of any kind. Evan is much calmer than Barty, but is just as crazy and loves to cause trouble, just in a more subtle way. Pandora was a seer and had dreams/visions of the future, and I saw somewhere someone suggested Pandora saw the future and Evan heard it (like auditory hallucinations kinda thing) and I absolutely love that. Pandora and Evan are twins. Obviously. Regulus is absolutely a sad wet cat. He glares at everyone and everything, and a neutral face is his smile. Occasionally the corner of his mouth will twitch for his friends or James, or Remus. Cause him and Remus were absolutely friends. They bonded over the chaos of their friend groups and their love of reading and so much more

skittles? barty is a clingy little freak. he is absolutely a mean ass person, do not doubt that, but he contains multitudes. evan doesn't wanna say that his crazy sister is actually kind of always right (fine maybe i just like her) and reggie? reggie is a small traumatized mean little shit. sopping wet kitten type vibes. poor little meow meow, except that it's all actually poor little meow meow
