Further thought, Jedi regularly going to trash planets and recycling centers and looking for essentially free junk that they can repurpose into becoming pretty thing that makes them and others happy. Jedi unraveling rags to become thread for their embroidery or bits of metal to be melted down into wire. Maul might be found early on one of these trash picking ventures and brought back to the temple, bound up like a spider's dinner, and stuck into a force proof cell and given all the therapy. In this process, Maul eventually before the war starts, spills about Palpatine being the Sith.

And the tradition of giving away things, things that they've worked on, spent time on, come to love even, might hopefully help tiny Anakin with his attachment issues and understanding letting things go is possible. (Also, upon discovering that Anakin has been spending time with the Sith, suddenly the chancellor's requests to spend time with underage child aren't possible because he and Obi Wan are on a mission outside of Coruscant, can't be contacted, so sorry. Anakin and Obi Wan are in fact dealing with their own therapists and then yes, going to wild space and probably running into Master Fay before tripping over Kamino by accident five years early)

Also possibly these little trinkets and clothes that Jedi give away are inevitably just soaked with the feelings the Jedi were experiencing while they were meditating or working on their little art project because they had the time and it makes them happy to do so. The people that receive the prayer beads carved by patient jedi find they have an increased sense of peace when they hold those beads. People wearing Jedi embroidered tunics or cloaks find that they're calmer with them on, it's easier to be happier when wearing them, and they're "luckier/safer".

AU where everything is the same but instead of being ascetics the Jedi tackle the whole temporal nature of the universe by enjoying things while you have them while still remaining unattached and dress like magpies who collect interesting bits of trim and beads and stuff. It’s been rattling around my head for a while, not sure if I’ll do anything with it.

a redesign for marel, an old oc of mine! she's a jewelry obsessed fanatic and basically the jedi version of a magpie with a very sunny disposition, so i feel like the shiny little details on her outfit now suit her much better. overall very pleased with this update to her look.

i have to explain all of her lore at some point, but she does have a nautolan padawan named val'ryik who i've drawn before! marel thinks he's too focused on boring things like duty and proving himself to the council and needs to lighten up, while val thinks marel has to be on some sort of drugs all the time cause she never runs out of energy. i have to draw them together again at some point!

Identification Rings

Every Clone, at birth, is given an identification ring: a plain iron band with his number stamped on the surface. This ring, purportedly, serves a two-fold purpose. As well as being his official identifying information, it’s also an enchanted artifact: the Kaminoans claim that, as powerful as their alchemy is, it’s not strong enough to create and sustain an entire human being on its own, especially with modifications such as advanced aging; the rings are therefore created with a spell that supposedly splits the life-sustaining alchemy between itself and the Clone in question, and once a Clone reaches the age of nine-eighteen, he is told he must wear the ring at all times or his alchemy will begin to unravel and he’ll die. (Prior to this, cadets wear their rings on chains around their neck, as seen in their concept art; apparently, Kaminoan magic can hold itself mostly together until a Clone reaches adulthood.)

The Clones are extraordinarily protective and even possessive of their rings. Besides their life-preserving properties, they’re also the only items the Clones can truly call personal possessions, the only thing they can really point to and say “That’s mine.” (True, once the war breaks out and they bond with their Jedi Generals, many of them receive numerous gifts from their newfound families, but in truth they often have trouble really seeing these presents as truly theirs, since in the walls of Kamino Fortress there was an unspoken understanding that everything they had- armor, clothing, room and board, anything and everything they touched- was really on loan and would be given to the next batch of brothers when they couldn’t use it anymore.)

Since these rings are so important to the Clones, a culture of sorts has sprung up around them:

As noted earlier, Cadets (Clones under the age of nine-eighteen and/or who have not passed their final exam) wear their rings on chains around their necks. As part of their coming-of-age ritual, their rings move from their necks to their right hands, and they reconfigure their chains from a single loop to this cuff design:

This new chain has both a practical purpose and a symbolic one. Practically, it prevents the ring from sliding off of a Clone’s hand and being lost (the chain is non-removable; all the links are closed). Symbolically, however, the chain has a much deeper meaning. It consists of two segments: the chain of identity (seen in red in the diagram) and the chain of brotherhood (seen in blue). 

The chain of identity is the segment that goes over the back of the hand and connects the ring to the chain of brotherhood. It symbolizes the connection that an individual Clone has to his brothers, and also his own individuality and personhood. Many Clones use this chain to express their own quirks and personality, painting it or attaching small mementoes to it. 

The chain of brotherhood is the segment that goes around the wrist, and to the Clones is the most important segment. It represents the brotherhood between all the Clones, and- eventually- between the Clones and their Jedi generals. There is a very important ritual associated with this chain: they are painted in memory of fallen brothers and Jedi, one link (usually; it can be more, depending on who or how many died) for every slain friend, in the color or colors of their armor (or, in a Jedi’s case, the color of their lightsaber). The inch or so of chain right over the back of the wrist, where it meets the chain of identity, is considered the most personal segment of the chain, and is usually reserved for fallen batchmates (though there have been exceptions to this norm- for example, after Ahsoka left the Jedi, Rex painted his section green for her.)

So I first saw this typeset and bind done by Hoshruba for @celestial-sphere-press for the Renegade Fic Exchange of 2022 - and it was fucking fantastic. I unfortunately can't share photos of someone's bind but I have to tell you, it was exquisite. I actually lust and crave for the physical copy, but alas. The typeset was also absolutely incredible, and as such I decided I wanted to make a physical copy of the shared typeset too.

This isn't a fandom I normally dabble in - this being Star Wars and featuring Obi-Wan, but i'm intrigued as it's a detective noir fic and boy do i love fics involving a premise like that.

I leaned heavily on @celestial-sphere-press who helped me with the themes for the fic so i could bind it blind. I chose pink, red and gold as my theme colours based on the endpapers I had selected. (I've only just realized Hoshruba selected the same colours - so lemme tell you, great minds think alike)

Endpapers are from renato crepaldi - he is an absolute master and every time he releases some, I go: hmmm do i want to drop 25 bucks on shipping to buy paper - a resounding YES. SPARKLY. ok, we are all dragons/ magpies here.

Some trusty colibri cranberry bookcloth again - which i always know takes HTV well (MOST OF THE TIME).

I'd like to say that that gold R for the titling is very intentional - 'made to look like a keypad!' - but i'd be lying. made some egregious mistakes here - the lesson to be learnt is more heat doesn't necessarily fix all the mistakes you make (it actually made it 1000x times worse) - but hey, fuck around and find out, right?

i've already started my next blind bind - Remedial Jedi Theology - and then i'll have just 6 more naked textblocks to go before I'm finally done with the backlog! for the next bind, i think i am going with purple...

who I am

A 21 year old French-Canadian Sagittarius, baby! queer, ashkenazi, doing an English major, hopefully a future lawyer. Big feminist (despite what my writing might consist of LOL). I write songs, too! I’m a big fan of moral philosophy (John Stuart Mill and Krenshaw are my favs) and ecocriticism — I’m writing my honours thesis on indigenous ways of knowing, particularly in connection with anti-humanist narratives centering non-human species (I love magpies and mother trees). Canadian humour and Canadian wildlife. Oh — I also love a good em-dash. DILFS.

For now, dark fic involving Pedro characters & dark fic about Soldier Boy from the Boys. Might be more later on, but that’s it for now.

Overly specific requests (it’s always going to be reader insert so don’t ask me to use your name or defining characteristics), anything related to feet or bodily fluids beyond cum LOL, real person fic (yes, that includes Pedro, he is a person), and fandom cross-overs.

Cal Kestis Fanfic.

I am jumping on the bandwagon like...way too late, with Survivor about to be dropped any week now (and tbh, I prefer Fallen Order Kestis...older Cal isn't my Cal.). But I only just recently have been blessed with enough money for a Gaming Laptop, my very first, and Fallen Order was on Sale, I am a Star Wars fan, so it had to be done.

To my Fanfic idea:

Cal runs a mission on (currently still unnamed planet), runs across a sudden spike in enormous Force Energy, for like...a split second, but even that was enough to take his attention off his initial target (He sees weird stuff or chest, he goes for it, Magpie Cal)

The Empire ofc also notices that and is on the Force Sensitive in minutes, causing Cal to run into a wall of Stormtroopers.

In an act of "safe the idiot from getting himself killed", they end up as a team for his mission Yada Yada Yada.

Goes on for a for a while, she joins the Mantis Crew, I might, depending on my mood, skip a big part of that bonding time since that ISN'T the main attraction.

It is...Inquisitor Cal Kestis. Yes I know, I am so original, give me an Oscar rn...

The main Character is already a more neutral Force Sensitive, to a point she doesn't just question the Dark Side, but also the Light, the one she's supposed to serve. But that's something she keeps in her background monolog, never let's anybody openly know until later.

She's basically a Grey Jedi...well, Padawan. They both were never knighted before the Purge after all.

Ramble at me about some of your favourite bits of Ride Or Die symbolism

Oooo there is SO much to choose from.

So, I'm going to pick one I haven't really touched on before, even if it is really minor.

So we've mentioned the Kite Clan members are falconers, and we've even named the species of Drago, Bolen, and Dralla's birds.

Drago's bird is the strongwind kite, which is heavily based on the real life Swallowtail Kite.

However, the outlined, luminius feathers his clan uses as favors are from the Black-billed magpie.

...and the strongwind kite is described as having four legs instead of two. Still, let's talk about this kite!

It is a graceful bird native to where I live. Small and fragile compared to other birds of prey, not unlike the status of Kite clan itself. It's a stunning bird, and Drago is described as a particularly handsome Pau'an- tall with long facial marks, pearly black eyes, crooked teeth, etc.. They are known for their acrobatics and relatively docile nature, and are primarily insect eaters. Kite clan members also heavily eat insects, earning them a notorious reputation among other Pau'an, and Drago is a known pacifist.

Now let's talk about Bolen's bird, the stingerbuzzard. So the only mention of this bird is in Chapter 25, in a short section where Dralla mentions gifting Nagee and his mate Pleida a jar of honey. This bird is based heavily on European and Oriental Honey Buzzards, which eat bees and wasps, and are sometimes seen flying off with their honeycombs.

Bolen is a very romantic individual with an emphasis on personal relationships and family. I thought it would be fitting to give him a bird who could give him something that is sort of a comfort to others. He's sacchrine-sweet with his grand gestures to others, singing songs for them and giving physical displays of affection, so the association with honey felt right for him.

And dear Dralla. The Pyrefalcon. So, in Australia there are 3 species of birds associated with wildfires, even those that have been seen specifically SPREADING wildfires to flush out wildlife to prey on. These are the Black Kite, the Whistling Kite, and the Brown Falcon. Obviously 2/3 of these are Kites, which is fitting in itself, but let's look a little deeper.

Falcons are also most strongly known for preying on other birds, which felt right. She's a human hunting and killing other humans that have invaded the Pau'an landscape. Tsino is a former Jedi who hunted other Jedi. It tracks with the company she keeps.

Fire has also obviously been a powerful force that we've spoken about in-depth as a metaphor. When wielded by the Empire, it brings about an absolute end, a final death to all things. In the hands of the Plainsmen, it brings about a cycle of rebirth and is both cause for mourning and the center of their celebrations.

So when we see the pyrefalcon chasing prey fleeing the fire, we can think of the Grand Inquisitor, the Imperial, hunting down the remaining Jedi scrambling to flee the destruction of Order 66.

Or, we can envision a more triumphant image of a human hunting humans alongside a former Imperial hunting Imperials, chasing the invading force off of their lands. Diving from great heights to strike unaware prey below just like a Peregrine Falcon does in real life.

There's the potential for both, it's really a sort of dark image, which is why I feel it fits the themes of the work so well!
