JEAN PILDO X FEMALE READER (MY NAME-KDRAMA)

THE LECTURE HALL was full mainly because of the asteroid of humming students filling the space before diving for their seats. You had barely made it on time, slipping into an empty spot before the professor began.

It was only after you had dropped your books on the desk that you realized who was sitting next to you.

Jean Pil-do.

You knew him from high school—same year, same school, but never particularly close. He had always been on the shy side and more into sports and his own friends. But here he was some years later in a police academy class, sitting right next to you.

He turned slightly, eyebrows raised in recognition of you. "You?"

You stifled a small chuckle as you leaned back in your chair. "Me."

He smirked. "Didn't really expect to see you in a place like this."

"Right back at you," you shot back. "Didn't take you for the police type."

Pil-do just chuckled and started to twirl his pen. "Says the one stuck in the same class as me."

Touché.

The professor's voice rang in the room before they knew it. Both of you turned back to pay attention at the front. Every now and then, Pil-do would sneak a look your way, like he was trying to work you out.

By the end of the class, you learned a few things about Pil-do: he wanted narcotics, something to do with hunting the worst of the worst. He was sharp and quick-witted, and even with his laid-back attitude, evidently, he took this pretty seriously.

"You staying in the dorms?" he asked you as you walked out.

"Yeah," was your short reply. "You?"

He nodded. "Fancy, isn't it? Nothing like the dump I expected."

You laughed. "What, you thought they'd throw us into bunkers?"

"Wouldn't have been surprised." He nudged your arm lightly, a playful smirk on his face. "Guess we're stuck together for a while, huh?"

You rolled your eyes but couldn't fight the small smile on your lips.

Something told you this was only the beginning.

After spending weeks of almost sleepless nights with assignments and projects with Pil-do, you two had settled into an easy routine. He'd drop by periodically to help with your assignments, and in return you'd make sure he actually ate something other than instant noodles.

Tonight was no exception, you had just wrapped up a major project together, and the air was thick with relief.

 "You finally have no one nagging you," you said, stretching your arms above your head.

Pil-do leaned back, a lazy smile on his lips. "Don't sound too happy; you might miss me."

You scoffed and hurled a pen at him. "Yeah, sure."

He snatched it without any effort, twirling the pen between his fingers. "Let's go celebrate."

You blinked. "Huh?"

"Dinner. Korean BBQ. Soju," his list continued as he pushed back from the table. "A couple of my friends will be there. You should come along."

You hesitated for just a second. "I'll be the only girl, won't I?"

Pil-do shrugged. "Yeah. But I'm there, so it's fine."

The statement was simple, but the way he said it did something to you inside. It was safe. That's how you felt with him.

"Okay, but I'm leaving if they're annoying."

Pil-do laughed. "Deal."

The place was packed; the air was laden with the mouthwatering aroma of sizzling meat and the frantic sound of clinking glasses of soju. Pil-do navigated through the crowd to the table where a few of his friends were already seated.

"Finally brought her, huh?" one of them said teasingly as Pil-do arranged a chair for you.

You raised your eyebrow. "Finally?"

Pil-do glared at his friend, then poured soju into your shot glass with nonchalance. "Just ignore that guy."

His friend chuckled, but you didn't miss the knowing glances exchanged around the table.

The night passed in laughter, drinks, and training stories. You had a ball glued to your ears listening, fascinated by their experiences, but more than anything, you were hyper-aware of Pil-do. He would subtly check if you had enough food. His arm rested against the back of your chair always, making sure your glass was never dry, but never letting you go overboard.

By this time, you were pleasantly mellow, warm from what's left of the alcohol and the comfort of the company. Pil-do continued to pen his attention properly on you.

As he walked you to your dorm, you nudged him playfully. "You're not that bad, you know, Jean Pil-do?" 

He laughed, stuffing his hands into his pockets. "Careful, you might actually start to like me."

You rolled your eyes, but your smile lingered.
