About sg prowl... ough I love the fact that he seems to have he's own weird claimed territory. He runs the place like the worst kind of mafia, forcing others who stay there to pay him protection money, or he makes sure they pay in other ways.

I love the idea of territorial prowl so much tho auuughhhh the moment you step into his turf he will sniff you out. How dare you intrude on his land. He will bite first and ask questions later. But when he does ask, you better have a good reason for being there

Sg jazz is primes bodyguard iirc? Or is he something else in the idw comics? Either way though, being a bodyguard makes him another kind of territorial. He doesn't let anyone near his charge and also doesn't let anyone near him. Any servos within reach of him or Prime are free game. He will bite.

He and Prowl would fight if they met. They both cross each other's lines in terms of what they are protective and territorial about. To Prowl there's a wild animal in his backyard. To Jazz someone has the audacity to even look at him.

They tear into each other and rip each other apart- but, later, once they come to some kind of mutual understanding, once they form a treaty of sorts, knowing they can both protect and have what they want at the same time, they start to work together.

Jazz can guard Prowl whilst Prowl watches his territory. Sometimes he goes out to do the dirty work for Prowl. They're always a hair away from fighting each other again, but they live with it. It works. And it's kind of exciting.

oughhhhh I'm thinking about them after Optimus dies too because that's a thing that happens in one or so of the shattered glass comic series. Because, after Optimus, Goldbug, Rodimus, and Ultra Magnus die... Prowl remains. And his control on Cybertron probably spreads. And, based on what I'm seeing, Jazz possibly survived too.

DRATCHET IS IN MY AU. I couldn’t resist. They are both old! But u can find love at any age.(Like I know drift was old in MTMTE but still now he just looks it.) sure! I’ll rant about them!

Drift was a warrior from the crystal city. Until he was dishonored was kicked out because he refused to kill those could couldn’t fight back on the Primes behalf. He travelled to kaon where he fought other warriors and swore revenge on his predecessors. He came across a young bot who wasn’t going to last long in kaon. He trained him and megatron rose to the top. And the decepticons came to power he would have his revenge but it didn’t feel as good as he thought it would. Did raising being Megatron’s mentor make him soft?

Eventually he switched sides. He currently works with an autobot group called the wreckers.

Ratchet has been a medic for Sentinel before he was Optimus medic. He had to obey Sentinel every command without so much as wrinkling his nose. He knew his skill could be better used else where. Ratchet actually liked helping people in need. But as he climb the medical ranks, that seemed more and more impossible.

So Ratchet would sneak to Kaon. He could go off the raider for a bit and almost everyone needed some type of medical attention. He just wanted to heal people. Free of charge. Tho not everyone in Kaon was grateful. Ratchet is tough but he’s not Kaon tough. Before he got ripped to shreds by someone that was mad he was there, a certain Ronan saved him.

They went back to Drift’s residence (outside of the city.) and Ratchet thanked him by giving drift a full check up. Unsurprisingly Ratchet found many things wrong with him, Drift is a medical nightmare. There was too much too be done in a day, that’s fine, more excuses to come back. The two clicked, Ratchet and Drift exchange kisses in between maintenance. Drift didn’t realize how much he liked getting touched by Ratchet. (He usually hates everyone.)

However when Optimus became a prime Ratchet had much more to focus on. Trying to make sure Op stays as healthy as he can and attempting to make things more comfortable for him. He didn’t get to see Drift, he assumed he probably never would. He would only go back to Kaon when the Primes were destroying it. All Ratchet could do is grit his teeth and look away.

Many many years later would they meet again on earth. Ratchet is more irritated and Drift is less. They balance each other out. Drift is good because he is slowly helping him move out of the mindset of being a servant of a Primes. Ratchet is slowly relaxing more.

You really capture the opposite attract dynamic super well. They feel like they compliment each other, and in the prequel drawings I can feel their dynamic growing. You are really good at making them mesh together well.

Thank you for speaking up about the treatment jazz gets in this fandom! as a black fan it can get tiring seeing all the signs of stereotypical and racist fanon on a black character, and i love jazz so much. having these discussions is really necessary in fandom spaces

i think we should greatly appreciate jazz's nicer traits, since all fanon likes to do is amplify and create negative traits for him so he can seem as a "deeper" or "more edgy character, when that not him at all! like when people say jazz is an assassin, hes not! hes a special operations agent! and theres so little canon content of him actually killing others, even less in the context of him being an agent than as a soldier. instead people should look at his love for human culture and humanity as a whole, and the fact in the comics he explicitly refers to black jazz musicians, and how he has great people skills!

i do also like jazzprowl, but again so many of their content is just racist stereotypes pushed on jazz to prop up against prowl. i think their relationship could be really interesting to explore romantically and platonically. ive read the magnificent six story and all hail megatron, which i think show a little of what their relationship could have if explored them further

another funny but sad thing about most jazzprowl fics is that they seem to treat prowl as more of a minority by his "praxian" race/the fall of praxus (which is completely fanon) than jazz! its bewildering how fics coddle prowl so jazz can be his heroic bf and support him. ppl seem more comfortable discussing a completely made up race for a white character than the very real coding of a black character

And I hate it when fanon that's offensive and almost feels like misinformation tricks people into thinking things about Jazz are true when they're not. I knew it was possible that some fans could ship JazzProwl because they were best friends in some older canon media like in the stories you mention. I do think I've seen people very, very occasionally mention things from canon, but it's so damn rare. Your take makes sense (also, yay, another person who has read "The Magnificent Six!" That made me happy lol), and it's sad that racist fanon is so constant and is everywhere and has completely obscured anything that was ever canon. Like, hey fandom, you could just build on canon if you want this soooo bad. You are not completely helpless. The bar is deep IN the ground at this point.

Also I couldn't help but laugh at "strange trails" being used in ref to ffn lmaooooooo. I first started reading fanfics on deviantart and then some wattpad. So ffn was the ordinary path after that. Now of course, I read fanfics on ao3 like everyone else, but when I've banged through all the fics in the pairing or topics I'm looking for, ffn's the natural choice after that lol. But now that ppl are starting on the internet with ao3, it's definitely leaving so many wonderful ffn fics in the dust which is super sad... Recently I've been using FicHub to download all the ones I really love so when ffn burns at least those won't be lost.

I rarely follow accounts that aren’t primarily Transformers-focused, but I reblog from anywhere and everywhere.

I do not believe in excessive woobification of characters without acknowledgment of their faults, especially those like IDW Prowl. Yes, I want to wrap him in a blanket. No, I’m not blind to the horrors he’s committed.

I avoid character “tribalism” as much as possible. When it comes to any character, I will never shove my opinions down another’s throat, but I will absolutely provide thoroughly considered opinions in a controlled way.

I’m not a hardcore shipper myself, but I have a select few I like. I also respect most other ships out there.

Ohhhh!!! I don't have much but i have some:33 (spoilers for autoboot camp episode and everything after it, beware!)

My number one favs are definitely bulkbee and longbee/shockbee!! I have some more too.I'm still trying to digest tfa and rewatching some episodes, but my favourite episode is definitely autoboot camp, because it has a lot of meaningful interactions between characters

I like bulkbee because it's very cute :33 literally both from romantic and platonic standpoints, they kind of add more to each other's characters. They are very different, but they compare in a very fulfilling way, they complete each other's development as people, and it makes me very happy. They both deserve to be loved and can give it to eachother because they know eachother well, went through a lot together and cemented their relationship. Also bee naps on him no objections

Longbee, on the other hand, is more dramatic/tragic. I would absolutely love to see them be cute together, go on dates in barracks, have first kisses or make presents for each other awkwardly. I once saw a very cute first date fic with them! But the fact of shockwave's mission and the fact that he encouraged bee and gave him affirmation he needed only to complete his plan is destroying. He doesn't belong in autobot ranks. He fakes a whole self. He's far from those he can trust. Does he feel anything for bumblebee? Maybe yes, maybe not. Maybe he can kind of relate to him, as bumblebee was bullied in the autoboot camp and had to fake coolness just to fit in with the others, and shockwave had to fake his autobot morales. Maybe he's disgusted by having to make expressions for bumblebee. Maybe he wants to take him to be a decepticon to stay with him. We don't know what's in his head. I love him

I have some others!! i like prowlbee and prowlbulk, for all those feelings, and i also need the prowlbulkbee poly to be appreciated more because it's so nice and cozy,, also jazzprowl because of their nice interactions and comfort!!

I don't really have any for decepticons. Maybe i like megashock for the drama and beauty? Maybe i like blitznut for their silliness? Tbh i needed more inside interactions for the cons

Tfa is heavier on cross-fraction ships imo. Optimus/blackarachnia is very sad for me, as well as ruining sentinel's relationship with op (from rom or plat standpoint, you choose). Past sentioplita is interesting, I don't go here much though. Also I'm intrigued by lockprowl but not in a rom/plat sense, more in an enemy and revenge and sadness sense

I'm not really into more popular ships here (shockblurr, blitzbee, megop) but i respect them. I just don't really get the dynamics for them as they didn't have much good interactions to me and I'm not sure about how they are portrayed in fan content, but i can enjoy them

And finally. megadac. because it's fucking insane it's so gross and sad and bitter I'm sneezing all over the screen. it's very uncomfortable that's why it intrigues me. They make me cry and cough they need to go to couple counselling or divorce NOW

But seriously, he was one of my favourite gravity falls characters, i feel like he's very much misunderstood by the fandom, either deeply villanized or has his reletable flaws whittled down to be more palatable. there is so much wrong with him to explore. alas, i am not smart enough to dig as deep

I think he was actually quite reletable and not to have a kin moment or anything, but I saw a lot of myself in his flaws, so I can't really imagine why someone wouldn't sympathize with him.

Not quite sure, I think he would be extremely fun to pair with anyone just because he's such a dick and no one likes him. I honestly think that a chapter dedicated to him and Rodimus getting into shenanigans would be hilarious

Not sure if this is necessarily me going against the popular opinions, perhaps just me against the expectations i had when i heard everyone else talk about him, but... I don't think he's actually as evil and twisted as people make him out to be? he's an asshole, yes, but I don't think he's actually a heartless bastard incapable of not feeling guilty for his actions, as i've seen him portrayed sometimes. if anything, guilt eats away at him so much that he's doing everything he can to stay in control of it. if he keeps stubbornly assuring himself that he did what had to be done, he'll manage to stay sane. i don't know. re-reading that, it sounds stupid as hell but i don't have anything else to say so i can't delete that....

And they're both doing crazy shit to get prowl pregnant. Ie, prowl pokes holes in the condoms and then tarantulas refuses to pull out when it breaks. Prowl starts drinking additives that are supposed to help with fertility, tarantulas uses science to track when prowls spark is more fertile. Crazy shit that they do not communicate to each other at ALL.

And then Prowl does finally get pregnant with springer. And now they've got this whole weird domestic partner ship going on bc tarantulas needs to provide transfluid for the bitty obviously so prowl has to stick around more often. Just for springers sake. Not because prowl cares or anything. Baka.

Do you have favourite transformers ships?

Before I answer this, I would like to make a point of "the relationships characters may have in canon is nebulous, there are many differences between continuities, and what one writer sees as familial, another may see as romantic". I'm fine with most interpretations, and I don't get grossed out by reading different interpretations that may not agree with my own personal headcanons. While I do have ships I try to avoid because their relationship in canon is unhealthy/toxic, most characters without a whole bunch of canonical interactions are likely to at least be moderately interesting to me, mostly on the strength of the writer's characterization.

Like over half of the entire fandom, I like JazzProwl like the basic normie I am XD also like it when they add a third. I've enjoyed JazzProwlBarricade, JazzProwlSoundwave, JazzProwlBlaster... (continued ad nauseum)

I actually really like OPStar (Optimus/Starscream). Like,

I also like Ratchet/Soundwave, Barricade/Soundwave, Amica flavored Heatwave and Chase (Rescue Bots is PEAK), I've read good Prowl/Smokescreen, Sideswipe/Prowl/Sunstreaker, Bluestreak/Sunstreaker, I am a BIG Silverbolt/Blackarachnia girlie (saying a canon ship may be cheap BUT I LOVE THEM), Primal/Dinobot is a masterpiece and I will go down with that ship, I've seen a few compelling Prowl/Starscream fics, I like Cosmos with either Soundwave and Blast Off because Cosmos deserves to be the world's most sexy transformer who's successfully seduced several decepticons.

Basically, to summarize, the ships I rate above ALL others are probably JazzProwl, OpStar, and Amica Heatwave and Chase. I just like a whole bunch of others XD (Listen tho, if y'all wanna come to me with your off the wall, crazy, can't get anyone else to ship it, "please don't let me be the only one who ships this PLEASE" crackship, I am a place of no judgement. Opinion on some good ol fashioned Prowl/Jazz?

It's a cute ship, I've seen a lot of good fics of it and they're the primary people I ship them with. It's got a story behind how it became popular (I think something to do with the marvel comics?), Though I admit at times I take it for granted

It's a nice ship, I like it... But I don't LOVE it, y'know? It's not my otp, but I can see why it's other people's and that's great for them. But I feel like after all this time it's lost that spark of inspiration earlier jazzprowl fics seem to have. But who knows, always accept the possibility of me being wrong on things

Done this before, but I should be able to do three new ones:

(a) The sheer emotional range that so many of the writers and artists can generate (and the fact that the source material gives them that space);

(b) The way that the people who create the canon interact with the fans. Again, maybe this is normal to lots of fandoms, but (for example) I can't get over Peter Cullen actually signing someone's "booby trap that really catches boobies" bra - and then setting boundaries for the future in the kindest, firmest possible way;

(c) I think you said this, or a version of it, but the skill of the artists. It's not just that they draw incredibly detailed robots in complex poses, it's that lots of them cover the different styles of all the different continuities, and the way they manage to present emotional expression in people with part or none of their faces on display.

4. say something nice about a ship you don't ship (it can be another ship in your fandom, a mutual's OTP, etc)

This is a popular one, isn't it? Well, all of SkyStar, JazzProwl, StarOp are pretty beloved, so one of the most important things about them is that they inspire a lot of people and make even more extremely happy, and that is an unalloyed good in the world.

7. your favorite tropes to read/write/draw

Reading: Miscommunication/cultural differences/aliens being alien (and isn't there a lot of room for that in TF?); enemies to friends/lovers and negotiating through the differences (likewise); parenting done well (is that a trope? Anyway I'm having it); arranged marriage or near-equivalent.

Writing: I've not actually finished a lot yet, but one thing that keeps coming up in my drafts is external viewpoint.

Drawing: I can draw nothing but the Decepticon symbol, and I'm not sure that comes with tropes really.

Viewing (wasn't there, but I feel I should complete the set: dance, and formal compositions with something going on beneath the surface, and complicated stuff with ropes and wires. Oh, and I'm very fond of propaganda posters.

Mythology, various, if that counts - that was my small-child obsession before there was Transformers. After 1984 - Transformers first, last and in between...

I had ordered the zine when preorders first started and when I saw that you were in the zine many months later i got very excited!!

I took a pic and sent it to Smooch and shared the rest of the art with them and their friends and we loved it all and I love what you did with Jazz ans Prowl!!

Also personal update myself, I probably didn’t do good on one of my exams today because i forgot there was an exam and I didn’t have my book and it was open book and so like, i didn’t do good but it is what it is

Also I want to hold your sideswipe so much, he is such a pretty boi and when he pops up he overtakes Sunny for a minute and is the star of the show and he knows he’s a pretty boi and will use it

I want to hold him so badly and domestic soft thoughts are my enemy cause I want them to be happy and heal from their pain and they are twins and they know each other the best and they went through hell and back and deserve good things!!!

Let Sunny become a famous artist again, let Sideswipe help with selling his brother’s paintings and also maybe own a lil bar and stuff also Bob being his cute self and get doted on and Sunny also maybe makes vent arts and let out his pain

I do personally headcanon that Sunny makes some vent arts but keeps some of them secret cause he doesn’t want to worry Sides too much with how he feels and it helped to just draw it out

Also me and my friends in the JazzProwl discord server made a lil meme thing into a bug angsty au and then we talked about the future after they mostly heal and it was from dark and angsty and stuff to more fluffy but still some angst(it’s with the Elite trine but i am gonna ask if we wanna include other ships and other lil stories besides the elite trine’s)

That's so exciting! I just got mine a few days ago~ I'm so happy to hear that you like my piece! I was really nervous about it because it was kinda spoofy compared to the others. It's pretty silly even by my normal standards hehe As far as my digital work goes, Sideswipe has been given so much love lately. It's great that his "pretty boi" status has been recognized. I purposefully designed him to look more friendly and open, so if he's making you think soft domestic things then I have done my job correctly hehe. On the subject of Sunstreaker's art habits, I think all artists make vent pieces at some point, writers and other creative mediums too (I know I do). So Sunny does probably have some pieces squirreled away here and there, I agree. I'm glad you're having fun on the JazzProwl server, and hope you get through whatever requires your attention now.

asjgjdh one i am writing no unless you mean one that's partway published because turtles is still kind of eating my brain so right now in transformers i am writing 1. mushroomverse 2. fathomless 3. that's it. fathomless is currently either self-explanatory or spoilers and i never know where to start with mushroomverse.

oh i guess technically i have the romance novel TFA au! that's started. haven't worked on it in earnest for a while but it exists! it's plotted out in my head as a series of four shipfics in a cybertronian high society divided not on gender lines but on 'land management' vs 'military'. autobot and decepticon affiliation has nothing to do with it. the decepticons are like. Scottish nobility.

so we go from JazzProwl friends to lovers mutual pining to MegOp 'love and hate tension 'you profited off my family's ruin and ugh now you're HOT' to one that's just a comedy of errors involving BlitzBee and ShockBlurr (one of those chained idiot plots where person c is helping person b, who c has a crush on, help person a, who b has a crush on--a=shockwave b=bumblebee c=blitzwing) and in the background the chaperones are distracted from this mess by Bulkhead getting seduced by married couple Strika and Lugnut who love him for his brain and his body.

jazzprowl side of this au is Mutual Restrained Longing and Respectful Intellectual Exchange. jazz is a sea captain prowl collects fossils and they go to lectures together. megop is Belligerent Sexual Tension and Good Things One-Upsmanship. optimus was supposed to go to military school but his family lost all their money and so he's back for his second season after he left his first very early to help blackarachnia, so he's no longer a shy young thing and he's very over these fawning young military officers who can't even beat him in a strategy game.

Ratchet and Arcee are chaperoning the canon autobot team. they have their work cut out for them. i may or may not ever write this more than the one scene i already have (start of Jazzprowl one, below the cut) but if i do it will be so much fun.

“...and of course, for embellishments, our establishment is up to date on all of the latest trends, my lord. Circuit boards are especially popular right now—one may arrange them to convey any and all manner of messages, with of course varying levels of discretion depending on their placement.”

Prowl was barely listening. He turned in front of the mirror as the modiste prattled on to Ratchet about current fashions, skirt held up in one servo so he could better watch the dark swish of the fabric. He had been skeptical of the merits of clothing, but he supposed he could see the decorative value. The dark fabric flowed like oil. Like the ocean.

“Prowl?” Ratchet sounded annoyed, but that wasn’t a sign he’d let them leave yet. He’d sounded annoyed ever since he’d found Bulkhead and Bumblebee in Prowl’s kitchen, and that hadn’t stopped him from shepherding Prowl off of Yoketron’s derelict estate and through all the forms and fancies that preceded a season in Metroplex. “You got an idea on the stenciling?”

“The point of this is that I present myself as a suitable candidate for conjugation, isn’t it?” Prowl asked. He didn’t look away from the mirror, turning again to watch the swirl of mesh floating around his plating. “Whatever is fashionable will be fine.”

Ratchet sighed. “If all I needed was an assembly-line opinion, I would’ve brought your measurements and not you,” he grumbled. “The point is that you find someone who can tolerate your personality. You have to show a little of it for that to happen. Primus knows you’ve got plenty to spare.”

“I don’t have time for—” Prowl clenched the fabric tighter, catching himself before he could turn in a temper. Ratchet was trying to help him. Prowl needed his expertise.

Seeking harmony with the universe, Prowl released the fabric, smoothing his servo over the wrinkles in the mesh. It did smooth beautifully. Like sand washed by the tide, before the sheen of the water faded.

“Ammonites,” Prowl said, into the silence that neither the modiste nor Ratchet had broken. “You can pattern it with ammonites. I’ll send you a design if you require one.”
