Dispatched Love
Request: Reader had known Jay since she’d first started as a dispatcher for Chicago. It wasn’t long until she’d developed a crush on the older man. She didn’t say anything since she realized he was dating Erin but then she left. She left and Jay got kidnapped; reader heard it over the radio. Hank texted her to say they’d found him and she left her job without saying anything and sped to the hospital. When she saw the blonde detective in the waiting room they got into a fight and reader punched her. She refused to leave the hospital until Jay woke up and laid in bed with him the entire time. When he woke up, in the heat of the moment her lips were on his in a moment.
Pairings: Jay Halstead x Reader
Warnings: angst, fluff

When you moved back to Chicago you really didn't know anyone besides Hank Voight considering he was your uncle and he had raised you for most of your life. You had gone away for college and had just recently come back to Chicago.
You had been job hunting for a while but nothing had interested you or if you did find something they weren't hiring. You really wanted to be a 911 dispatcher but each time you tried to apply something always came up so you just gave up. Hank had come up to you one day saying he had a surprise for you and that he wanted you to come to supper and of course you accepted, you loved your uncle.
It was currently Thursday night when you went over to his house for supper. You drove over there and when you got into the driveway you parked and killed the engine. You got out and walked to the door and knocked and waited then the door finally opened.
"Hey! Come on in!" Hank said and you smiled and walked in.
"Hey, Uncle Hank." You said and hugged him and you returned it.
"I'm glad you could make it." He said as he let go of you.
"I was doing anything really. I was just thinking about opening a bottle of wine and sitting in front of the TV and ordering a pizza." You said and you watched his face fall.
"You know you're always welcome over here." He said and you nodded.
"Of course I do but I don't want to inconvenience you." You told him and he shook his head and you both began walking into the living room.
"Nonsense. Supper will be ready in 10 minutes." He said and you nodded. You both sat on the couch.
"You said that you had a surprise." You told him and he nodded.
"I got you a job at the 911 dispatch center." He said taking a drink of the beer that he had on the table.
"Wait. Seriously?" You asked with a look of shock on your face and you watched him nodded "How?" You asked.
"I know someone who owed me a favor." He said and you practically tackled him into a hug.
"Thank you." You said and he hugged you back.
"No need to thank me, kid. I know how much you wanted it." He said and then you both released each other. Dinner was ready and you both ate in a comfortable peace. You went home happy and grateful for an awesome uncle.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
When you weren't working you were hanging out at the police station and visiting your uncle. You had made fast friends with everyone in Intelligence including none other than Jay Halstead. You had developed feelings for him. He was always so nice to you when you came in and if you needed something while there he would get it for you. But he was with Erin Lindsay so you didn't pursue your feelings. What you didn't know was that he had feelings for you too.
"Hey, Y/N. How's it going?" Jay asked when you walked into the bullpen. You smiled at him.
"I'm good. Just been working." You said as you walked over to him.
"How's it going?" He asked truly interested and you loved that. He had been sitting on the edge of his desk.
"It's going well. I'm doing what I've always wanted to do." You said and he smiled but then Erin walked over and slung her arm over his shoulder.
"Hey, Y/N." She said and then turned and kissed Jay on the cheek.
"Hey, Erin." You said with a polite smile on your face.
You really didn't like Erin she gave off a vibe that just didn't sit well with you, even if she was part of your family. She would always pop into conversations and still him away even if it was just a simple friendly conversation. So you ended up steering clear of her and him and started to visit less often. You hated doing it but that didn't stop your feelings from forming.
"What are you doing here?" She asked turning to you.
"I was actually waiting for Uncle Hank." You said just being in her presence was awkward and not pleasant. "You know I actually need to go. I have work in a few hours. Jay, can you tell him I stopped by and I'll get into contact with him later?" You asked and Jay nodded and then you left saying bye to Trudy on the way out.
You didn't return to the station after that day so you didn't know what had happened. Your love for Jay still grew stronger. You met everyone at Molly's a few nights but you steered clear of Jay and Erin no matter how it hurt.
One day Jay had shown up to you as you were leaving work. This surprised you. "Jay, hi." You said a little confused.
"Hey, Erin left." Jay said and you didn't say anything but you wore a shocked expression.
"I'm sorry, Jay. I know how much it must hurt." You said and then pulled him into a hug which he returned.
"Thank you, Y/N." He said and you both talked for a while before you both left but not before exchanging numbers.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
It had been months since Erin had left and you hoped she didn't come back. You and Jay had been texting but never met up due to working hours. You wanted to but never found the right time. Sometimes it would go on for weeks and sometimes it would stop and you understood. You both had demanding jobs.
You were at work when tragedy struck. You had taken a 911 call from a women. She claimed that she saw someone, a male, matching Jay's description and your heart dropped.
You had texted Hank but he said that he didn't know anything and he would let you know. It had been a few hours so when you took your break you had called him.
"Hey, have you heard anything?" You asked him and heard him sigh.
"I'm not supposed to be telling you this but we're close to finding him, we think. You have to believe that we will." Hank said and you closed your eyes.
"I believe you. I love you Uncle Hank." You said and opened your eyes.
"I love you too kid. Everyone including Erin is here helping." He said and your blood ran cold. You didn't say anything else just hung up the phone and got back to work.
You didn't contact him for weeks or even visit them. You couldn't you hated the thought of seeing her face.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Going into 3 weeks of Jay missing you had gotten a text from Hank.
Uncle Hank: We found him. We're going to med.
You just stared at your phone you couldn't believe it. You got up and grabbed your stuff and headed out of work. Your boss was going to stop you but they knew what was going on so they just let you go.
When you got to med you walked right into the waiting room to Hank. He saw you coming and he opened your arms and walked into them fully closing the hug. "Where did you find him?" You asked him and as you broke apart from the hug.
"We found him in a warehouse locked to a pole and he was beaten pretty badly. He's in surgery now." Hank had told you. All of Intelligence didn't care that you knew but that didn't sit well with Erin and it showed.
"Why are you telling her? She's not supposed to know anything." Erin said and you turned to look at her.
"I thought you left. Why are you back?" You asked her maybe a little bit rudely.
"I heard that he was kidnapped and I came back to help look." She said and you didn't quite believe her so you scoffed.
"If you cared for him so much then you wouldn't have left him. You broke his heat. Now all of a sudden you're back trying to win it?" You asked her and she had an offended look on her face but you didn't care. You didn't know when you had stepped closer to her but at some point you had.
"What? It's not like you're dating him or anything." She said and rolled her eyes.
"You're a bitch you know that." You said with a look of disgust on your face.
"What did you just call me?" She asked
"A bitch. I called you a bitch." You told her and the next thing you knew you were getting punched in the nose and it started bleeding. You stumbled back into Hank but what she didn't know was that when you get mad you go into fighting mode. You took one swing at her and she stumbled and into a wall. Before it could get any further Connor Rhodes came into the waiting room to say that he was out of surgery and only one person was allowed to be with them while he recovered, Everyone agreed that you should be the one, Erin was offended but you really didn't care.
When you walked to his room with Connor. He had stopped and checked you out and cleaned you up before continuing on. "Hey if any swelling occurs call me." He said and you nodded and then turned to him when you reached the door.
"Thank you, Connor." You said and he smiled and nodded. You walked into the room and waited.
Waiting can be a horrible thing at times. Waiting gave you time to think and those thoughts could be good or bad. Jay had been unconscious while you were there and you refused to leave his side. He had visitors come and Erin surprisingly didn't show her face. Hank visited often it was to check up on you and to see if any changes happened with him.
"Hey, Sweetheart. Any changes?" He asked and you shook your head and he sighed.
"Nothing new but that's a good thing. That just means that he isn't getting worse." You said and he nodded.
"You need to go home. You're probably missing a lot of work." He said and you shook your head.
"I had the next few days off since I work late nights. I'm not leaving him." You said and he nodded and left it at that.
"Text me if anything changes." He said and you nodded.
"You got it." You said never leaving your eyes off of him.
It took a total of 2 days for Jay to wake up. You had fallen asleep in a chair next to his bed. He groaned and started moving and that is what woke you up. You jumped up and before you knew it, your lips were on his. What you didn't expect was to from him to kiss you back. You only broke apart when you needed air. He looked at you suprised.
"I'm sorry. I just really wanted to do that. For awhile now. I should go." You rambled but he grabbed your hand and pulled you back and crashed his lips back onto yours, this time it was turn to be surprised but kissed back. You pulled apart again when air was needed.
"You don't know how long I've wanted to do that." He said and you smiled and you sat down.
"Really?" You asked and he nodded his head.
"Really. Y/N I fell in love with you when Hank first introduced the Intelligence group to you. Yea I was with Erin but we were already going out of the relationship." He said and you smiled.
"I've had a crush on you when Hank introduced me to you and then it slowly turned into love." You said and smiled.
"Well would you like to go out with me on a date?" He asked and you nodded your head.
"I would love that." You said and you both smiled at each other. You didn't know if you ever would love again but Jay Halstead just proved that you could. You loved each other and nothing was going to change that.

Okay okay, y'all. Imagine Jay during this.
He knew neither of his parents were gonna show up, and Will was in New York, so maybe Jay didn't even tell him about it. He didn't wanna distract from med school. But one of Jay's friends (probably Mouse, but idk if they went through basic training together or just deployment, but it also sounds like a pretty Mouse thing to do) calls Will in advance.
Jay thinks he'll just have to stand there at attention and listen as most of his fellow soldiers reunite with family until a kind person taps him out with a look of sympathy or, worse, pity. He's not looking forward to it. At all. Sure, it means he completed basic training, but it's not much more.
Will's there. He was grinding even harder at school the past week or two so he'd have less to worry about while he missed. He has enough unused absences to miss a few days. (Ngl I'm applying community college knowledge to ivy league medical school so I don't actually know the ins and out of missing a few days of classes.) But he's not gonna miss this.
He's not shocked when he's waiting there as family members of everyone else arrive, and his parents are nowhere to be seen. He hadn’t been sure if he was going to try staying with them, but he's sure it's not a good idea now. He would not keep quiet about them missing this. Hell, he'd love to go tell dad off about it anyway. But that's not what he'd want to come home from, so he's not gonna stress Jay out. See, he can, in fact, take the high road.
So once the family side of the field (or room?) is free to go tap out their loved one, Will silently makes his way over to stand in front of Jay, whose face impressively shows no indication of whether or not he can feel someone standing there, and knocks on his chest lightly. Jay's arms relax as he opens his eyes, and the default appreciative half smile he was gonna give a stranger only appears as a flicker before excited shock takes over.
Will grins and pulls him into a tight hug. He's not actually thrilled about his little brother wanting to ship out and risk his life, but that'll never stop him from being anything but proud of him.

If I had a nickel for every blue eyes man, in a series, whose character arch was destroyed by shipping (canon and not), reducing him to the hot guy™️ who serves only as the main love interest in the group, I'd have two nickels. Which is not a lot, but I'm mad it happened twice.

the peak of heartbreak and love you can feel over one couple is when you're trying to write the word "upset" and you actually type "upstead", just out of habit

🔥
Jay is not ghosting Hailey.
The definition of ghosting, in the context everyone is trying to use it in, in the Oxford Dictionary is:
the practice of ending a personal relationship with someone by suddenly and without explanation withdrawing from all communication
...Jay told her he wouldn't be able to stay in contact while he was gone. That was an explanation. Not answering her calls is not ghosting, it's doing literally what he told her would happen when he left for Bolivia. There was also no "ending a...relationship" there. They're still married. Stop misusing words to twist a narrative. Words have specific meanings for a reason.

Stress Relief...
Tumblr media
Summary: Over the last 9 months, your life has changed a lot, it was hard not to feel stressed, but after meeting quite possibly the sexiest guy you'd ever met at Molly's, stress was the last thing on your mind
Warnings: age gap, smut, unprotected sex (wrap b4 you tap), drunk-ish sex
Word count: 3354
Fandom: Chicago P.D
Pairing: Hank Voight x halstead!reader
[A/N] I've been wanting to write for Hank a long time, but every time i watched Chicago P.D to get ideas and inspiration, I got distracted 🤣, It's very hard not to
You were a creature of habit. Always have been. So it didn’t take long for everyone to learn them. One particular habit was your nightly trip to Molly’s. The firefighter bar. You met Herrmann in the ER one day and you became friends. He was quite possibly the sweetest person you’d ever met. He was also the only one who knew your full past.
You weren’t always here in Chicago nor were you aware of your brothers, Will and Jay. Up until 9 months ago you didn’t know that they existed. You were an orphan, or at least that’s what you were always told and you had no reason to think otherwise. But sure enough, after a trip to Chicago and one freak accident that took you to the ER, you found them. Well one. Your older brother Will. How he found out, you still didn’t know but he did. Shortly after, you met Jay, who apparently is your twin brother.
You spent as much time with them as possible before leaving for your college graduation, promising to visit. Little did you know that they were coming back with you. You didn’t find out until they “dropped you off” at the airport the next day but with bags.
“You think we’d miss our little sister’s graduation?” Will asked smiling warmly.
"Seriously?" you asked, your face lighting up like a child's on Christmas morning.
Will chuckled, ruffling your hair, "Of course. We wouldn't miss it for the world."
As soon as your flight number was called, you all boarded the plane, excitement bubbling under the surface. You couldn't believe it. Just a week ago, you thought you'd be walking across the stage to receive your degree with no one in the crowd cheering for you. But now, you were going to have two people there, and not just anyone—your brothers.
As you settled into your seat, you glanced over at Will and Jay, who were chatting animatedly about the plans for the weekend. The reality of the situation finally hit you, and felt a smile creeping up your face. You'd spent so much of your life moving from place to place, rarely feeling like you truly belonged anywhere. But now, it felt like you finally did belong.
When the plane landed, you turned to your brothers with a smile. "I'll head home and change, and then I'll meet you both at the hotel with my husband," you said, still riding the high of excitement from the journey.
They nodded, and after a quick hug and a promise to catch up soon, you headed off towards your apartment. You didn’t live so far away, so you decided to walk. As you walked up the driveway, you noticed your husband's car was there. A small, happy smile crossed your face.
You unlocked the front door and stepped inside, calling out a cheerful greeting. "I'm home!"
But there was no response. The house was eerily quiet, and an uneasy feeling began to settle in your stomach. You walked through the hallway, your footsteps echoing in the silence. As you approached the bedroom door, you noticed it was slightly ajar. Pushing it open, your eyes widened in shock.
There, on the bed, was your husband—tangled up with another woman. It was almost too surreal to process at first; your mind struggled to comprehend what you were seeing. They both looked up, startled by your sudden entrance. Your husband quickly pulled away from the woman, but he didn't seem particularly shocked or apologetic. Instead, he simply stared at you. In fact, a look of mild annoyance was plastered on his face.
For a moment, you just stood there, frozen, as a tidal wave of emotions crashed over you—betrayal, anger, sadness. You felt like you had been punched in the gut. You'd been so excited to share your news with him, and now this?
You swallowed hard, forcing yourself to speak. "I'll be back for my things," you said, your voice surprisingly steady despite earthquake of emotions rattling inside you. You didn't wait for a response. You turned on your heel and walked out, grabbing your car keys on the way out.
As you got into your car, your hands were trembling. You took a deep breath, trying to calm yourself. Tears welled up in your eyes, but you wiped them away and started the engine. You drove to the hotel in a daze, trying to shake the image of your husband and the other woman from your mind. How you didn’t have an accident was beyond you.
Needless to say, they were furious when you showed up at their hotel room in tears. You had tried so hard to hold it together, but as soon as the elevator doors closed behind you, the dam broke. The tears came fast and hard, and you struggled to keep your sobs quiet as you rode up to their floor.
When you reached their room and knocked, Will opened the door, his smile fading instantly when he saw your tear-streaked face. Without a word, he pulled you into a tight hug, wrapping his arms around you protectively. The warmth of his embrace made you feel better, even if just for a moment.
Jay quickly crossed the space between you, "What happened?" he asked, his voice tense.
You tried to speak, but your voice caught in your throat. The pain was too raw, the words too painful. Instead, you just shook your head, fresh tears spilling down your cheeks. Will held you tighter, his hand gently rubbing your back in a soothing motion.
"He... he was with someone else," you finally managed to choke out between sobs, your voice barely above a whisper.
Jay's face turned red with anger, his fists clenching at his sides. "What?" he nearly shouted; his voice filled with fury. He took a step towards the door, clearly ready to confront your husband. "I'm gonna kill him," he muttered under his breath.
Will, still holding you close, turned to block Jay's path. "No, Jay," he said firmly, "This isn't the time. She needs us."
"I don't know what I'm going to do," you said, more tears streaming down your face as the realization hit you—you were now possibly homeless. You felt the weight of everything, slowly crushing you. But you needn’t worry about anything.
Jay offered you a place to stay and went back with you to collect the rest of your belongings. He was also there when you filed for divorce. Despite his assurances that he didn't mind you staying with him, you started looking for a place of your own. When you thought you had found one, Jay insisted it "wasn't safe enough" for you. So, almost nine months later, you’re still living with him. It had been a long time since you had a brother around, and you'd forgotten how much of a nuisance they could be—but you loved it.
You're now a nurse at Gaffney, the same hospital where Will works. While you love being near your brothers, the ER can be incredibly stressful, and when it gets overwhelming, you find yourself at Molly's, sitting on your usual barstool. Herrmann could tell just by the look on your face which usual you needed. You had two orders: one for a good day and one for a bad one. Clearly, today was the latter.
You smiled as the drink appeared in front of you. "Thanks, Hermie," you said, picking up the shot glass and downing it in one go, welcoming the familiar burn.
"No problem, kid," he said, a gentle smile playing on his lips. "Wanna talk about it?" You shook your head, offering a grateful smile. He casually draped the towel over his shoulder and placed another drink in front of you, a glass of coke with double vodka, "You know where to find me if you change your mind."
You nodded once more as he moved to serve other patrons. You let your eyes leave their place on the glass and wander around the bar. Many people were regulars, in fact all of them were except for one.
He caught your eye immediately. He was quite possibly the hottest person you’d ever laid your eyes on. He was definitely older than you, by about 20 years but damn you didn’t care. His short, neatly trimmed hair was greying slightly but it only made him sexier. As you continue to admire him you could feel yourself being pulled from reality as your eyes trace his strong jawline. They then made their way further south to where the luckiest pieces of clothing hugs him. Especially the leather jacket. You love leather jackets. You’re not sure why but when they are wrapped around men like that, do you need a reason?
He must have felt your eyes on him because his flicked over to them. You quickly avert your eyes back to your glass, feeling a blush creep up your cheeks and you hope that it’s dark enough so no one can see.
You want to talk to him, but you feel you need some more liquid courage. You continued to drink your double vodka and coke and when you finished you signalled for a refill but just coke this time. You picked up the drink and made your way over to the man and sat beside him.
“Hey, I haven’t seen you here before,” you said, trying to make yourself sound like you weren’t completely freaking out on the inside.
“It’s not my usual place,” he replied with the deepest gravelly voice you had ever heard. You had to squeeze your thighs shut because of the effect it had on you.
Nevertheless, you try and ignore the feeling and held your hand out to him, “I’m (y/n)” you said with a small smile.
“Henry” he replied, placing his hand in yours. The rough skin on his fingertips felt good against your soft skin. You couldn’t help but think where else they’d feel good.
You both talked for a while as more people started to filter in. It started to get really loud and you wouldn’t mind going somewhere private with Henry. So you asked, “Hey, wanna go somewhere quieter,” you bite your lip hoping he says yes... And he does.
The drive to his was quiet, I left you to your thoughts. This wasn’t what you intended when you left the apartment tonight but hey apparently sex is a great stress reliever and you have a feeling you are about to be well taken care of.
You shoot Jay a quick text to let him know you are okay and as you press send you stopped. He’s a gentleman and opens the door for you and holds his hand out for you to take.
You take it and you get out of the car, following him into the house, his hand on the small of your back guiding you towards it.
The next few moments are a blur. As soon as the door shut, his mouth was on yours. The kiss started off tender but slowly got more passionate. You certainly weren’t complaining. He slowly guided you towards the bedroom, his lips never leaving yours. You had no idea where in the house you were until the back of your legs hit the cool sheets. His hands moved from your face to the zipper on your dress pulling it down swiftly. He slid the small straps down your arms as you fiddled with the buttons on his shirt. The dress dropped from your frame and pooled at your feet, leaving you in just your underwear. When you undid the last button, you slowly removed both the shirt and the leather jacket. You let your hands follow the garments until they landed on his belt. Your mouths were still attached. You could taste the whiskey on his tongue and he could taste the vodka on yours. You continue fumbling with his jeans until thy joined your dress. His hands glide down your body until they reach your ass, you moan as he gives them a firm squeeze before lifting you up.
He turned and sat on the bed, so you were straddling him. You could feel him beneath you and you couldn’t help but grind against him. When he groaned you felt your pussy yip as if it had just been shocked. Was anything this man did not sexy?
Your tongues continue to battle each other as your wet core rides his clothed hardness. Until you couldn’t take it anymore. You stood only to remove your panties. He removed his boxers quickly before you climbed back on top of him, wasting no time sinking down on him.
“fuck* you breathed, the word falling from your lips as your head falls back.
His hands hold your shoulders, slamming you down harder on him. You were already seeing stars and you had barely started.
His lips attached themselves to your neck, licking and nibbling at the soft flesh. They then trailed lower towards your still covered breasts. He kissed the valley between but made no movement to take off the piece of fabric in his way. So you reached behind you and unclasped it, discarding it with the rest of your clothes.
He smirked against your skin taking one in his mouth, sucking hard on the sensitive nub, his hand played with the other, rolling it between his thumb and index finger. Then he switched, giving them equal attention.
Without warning, he stood up and chucked you onto the bed, leaving you feeling cold and empty. Your hand went to your clit to give you something as he climbed towards you. Eyes locked on you as if you were his prey.
His hand slowly runs up your thigh until it reaches your hand. He looks at you and you move your hand and rest it on your stomach. His hand replaces yours. Teasing you. One finger gliding through the lips, dipping it ever so slightly into your wet hole.
“Please” you whimpered as his fingers continue to tease you.
With a smirk, he enters you fully, making you arch off the bed. He starts to move in and out, your body begging for more. You can’t help but let out a low moan that echoes through the room.
“Oh, baby, you like that?” he whispers in your ear, his voice sending shivers down your spine.
You nod your head, unable to form words as pleasure overtakes you.
He slammed into you, hard and fast, the sound of skin slapping against skin filling the darkness. You dig your nails into the bed, trying to hold on as he fucks you into oblivion.
You’re not sure how long it goes on, but you feel yourself getting closer and closer to the edge.
And just as you’re about to go over, he pulls out and flips you onto your stomach, pushing your legs apart. You know what’s coming next, and the few second wait is almost too much to handle. He slams into you from behind, his hands gripping your hips tightly as he drives into you, over and over again.
You bite the pillow to muffle your screams as he takes you roughly, your body trembling with every thrust. You can feel yourself about to cum, and you know it’s going to be the best fucking orgasm of your life.
Finally, with one last, hard thrust, you do. Your orgasm rips through you like a tornado in a trailer park, leaving you a trembling mess on the bed. Henry follows shortly after, his own groan of pleasure muffled against your neck.
The two of you collapse onto the bed, both panting and sweaty. You lay there for a moment, trying to catch your breath, before you feel him roll over and wrap an arm around you.
The next morning you open your eyes, and you don’t recognise your surroundings. Your eyes squeeze shut as the bright light burns them and you become aware of the arm draped across your bare waist. Its then you remember the events from last night and it wasn’t just an amazing dream.
As your mind replays the sex a tone begins to sound. You knew it wasn’t your phone. The arm removed itself from your body and the sound stopped shortly after.
You turned to look at him, “hi,” your voice is small and unsure. You hadn’t done anything like this before so you didn’t know the protocol.
“Hey... I uh... Got to get to work,” he said removing the covers and going to get changed, “I’ll take you to get your car,”
“Thank you,” you smiled as you grab your outfit off the floor and quickly threw it on. You got your phone out your bag and checked the time, “shit,”
“What’s wrong?” Henry asked turning around as he continued buttoning up his shirt.
“Nothing, just my brother might have left for work already and he hasn’t given me a spare key,” you groaned inwardly. You couldn’t show up at the hospital looking like this.
As soon as you both were ready, as promised, Henry took you back to Molly’s to get your car. Much to your disappointment, plans were not made to see each other again.
You got in your car and drove as fast as you could without breaking the law but when you got there it was indeed too late. Jay had already gone to work. You got back in your car and headed to his workplace. What a first impression you were going to make. You haven’t met any of Jay’s colleagues and dressed in last night’s outfit and possibly smelling like sex.
You took a deep breath as you walked through the doors and up the steps to find a huge desk in front of you. You watched as the woman gave a sarcastic reply to a couple of patrol officers and you tried to stifle a laugh but failed. Her eyes flashed over to you, “Can I help you?” she asked in a tone that would probably send the uniforms running but you just give her your sweetest smile.
“I’m looking for my brother, Jay Halstead,”
“Oh, so you’re the mini-Halstead,” she said with the same tone, “Lets hope you aren’t like the other two,”
“Well, I’m a female,” you shrugged “Thats a difference,”
She pointed to another set of stairs leading up to a gate, “He’s up there,” she said resting her hand on the button waiting to buzz you in.
As soon as you hear it buzz, you open the gate and head up the rest of the steps. Jay spotted you before you got to the top.
“Look who decided to show up,” he called out. Everyone in the room turned to look at you and you kinda felt a little exposed. They probably thought you were a prostitute or something.
“Jay, I don’t have time for this,” you said walking over to his desk, your palm held out ready to receive the keys, “I’ve got to go to work,”
He fished the keys from his pocket and tossed them up in the air, a smug grin on his face, “Come home at a reasonable time then,”
“Or you could have gotten me a key cut, asshole,” you said rolling your eyes as you put the keys in your bag. When you looked back at your brother, he was looking at you funny, “What?”
“Where did you get that jacket?” he asked pointing to the leather jacket Henry gave you. You had forgotten you were wearing it.
You shrugged, “Just a friend,” you replied nonchalantly. Jay went to say something else when a voice spoke from behind you. A familiar one. You turned and sure enough, there he was, “Henry?”
It didn’t take a detective to connect the dots. You had slept with your brother’s boss. You hadn’t meant to. You had no idea who he was. But the thing is... You want to do it again. You want to fuck him again.

Oh my, you're so right. There are not enough Will Halstead fics in the one chicago fandom. I would have an idea for this fine man. Maybe you like it.
It's the best fiends to lovers trope... I'm obsessed with this kind of stuff. They're both idiots in love but are too afraid to destroy their friendship when they would tell the other how they feel. Will is super protective of reader. Reader has a chronic illness (cause I NEED to see him in worried protective doctor mode) like a heart desase or asthma or epilepsy. So he always watches out for her helping her when she feels sick... One day he gets hit on at Molly's and reader sees him flirting with a girl. He starts to date the girl. The girl is super bitchy and is jealous of reader cause she's Wills best friend. So the girl tries to drive a wedge between reader and Will, maybe weave some lies, hurts reader mentally etc so that reader distance herself from Will cause she's hurt of what his girlfriend said to her or how she treats reader. That lead to huge emotional stress which flares up her illness. Reader is feeling bad both emotionally and physically. And it gets dramatic in some kind of way. Maybe Jay or another character notices reader getting worse and tells Will. And first he doesn't belive it, cause his best friend would tell him of she's super sick, wouldn't she? Until reader is admitted to Med or is found unconscious in her apartment or something else.
Sorry for my long rambling. This is just an idea maybe you like some parts of it.

Okay so this is one of the longest requests I have gotten for Will so far. I honestly enjoyed writing this so so much and I truly hope I did as much as you asked for 🤗 🤗 🤗 🤗

When people talk about having a best friend you have to remember that no relationship is going to be the same as someone else’s. But when my friends think of a best friend duo they look at me and Will Halstead. We’ve been in the others life from the time we were five years old and haven’t left each other’s side since then.
He had went onto to become a doctor and I had persuade working in the same police department as his brother Jay had. Years ago when Will had a fight with his dad about wanting to go off to college I was there for the aftermath when Will stormed out. He told me the main reason he wanted to become a doctor was so that he could help people, especially people like me. I was born a few weeks earlier at the end of my mom’s pregnancy which gave me underdeveloped lungs and asthma.
Walking into Molly’s bar wearing some ripped blue jeans shorts and a white tank top I was looking for Will until I finally found him up at the bar. Striding over I was about to say something until I saw him with a blonde that I couldn’t really stand to be around. Her and I had gotten off to the wrong foot and she basically always made a point to lead my best friend away me. Heading to the bathroom I leaned my body into the wall just needing a minute to myself except to my surprise the very girl I didn’t want to see came up to me. “How long do you think he’s going to be there to babysit you hmm?”
“What are you talking about?” I asked her sensing some annoyance in her tone.
The blonde named Brooke snapped. “I mean he can’t babysit you and be your best friend forever. He is an ED doc and now spends most of his time with me.”
“Did he tell you this?” I questioned her knowing my friend was very busy as was I since I was doing everything I could to someday become a paramedic for Firehouse 51 with my friend Sylvie Brett who had recently joined the team.
Brooke rolled her eyes like I was an idiot or something. “He’s just spending time with you because he’s a doctor and feels it’s his sworn duty to protect you and make sure you’re well.”
“Will and I have been friends since we were five years old. So, I think you’ve got your thoughts mixed up.” Responding to the girl I had faith in my friend way before I would ever believe what this woman was saying.
She throws her hands away from her sides. “I’m just saying he clearly doesn’t have feelings for you like he does for me.”
“How would you know huh. Can you see what he is thinking inside his head cause I certainly can’t.”
She shrugged her shoulders. “I’ve seen your little asthma attacks the first time I met you at this bar. Do you seriously think that he’s gonna want to be with somebody with a disability.”
“I’m done talking to you.” I began walking away from her until she yanked me back by my forearm.
“Just face the facts and realize you’ll just be another patient to him and nothing else.”
Yanking my arm from her grasp I stomped away not bothering to talk to her or Will for the night. The next few weeks I had basically been avoiding Will’s phone calls or texts figuring that she was right that I would always be a patient in his eyes. I decided to take a walk and see Brett so headed to the firehouse seeing her stalking supplies inside the ambulance. “There’s my favorite paramedic.”
“Hey Y/n! I wasn’t thinking I would be seeing you today. How have you been?” She climbed down out of the ambulance coming over and embracing me in a hug.
I wrapped my arms around her hugging her back. “I’m good. How are you and Casey?”
“We’re doing good. I’ve been meaning to ask how are you and Dr. Halstead. I’ve been meaning to ask lately.”
I raised a brow at her question. “Me and Will. I – I don’t understand.”
“Oh please. There’s something clearly going on between you two.” Brett rolled her eyes like I just said something completely ridiculous.
I raised my hands waving them in front of my chest not believing that there was something going on between me and my friend. “I don’t think you understand the relationship that he and I exactly. We are just friends and nothing more. Besides I’m fairly certain he doesn’t think of me in that way.”
“Pfft I’m sorry but that is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard.” She made a noise snorting out a laugh. “Have you missed the signs where he sends you those lovey doe eyes, looking out for you, and I’ve never seen you hanging around anyone else but him since the day I met you two.”
“Look Brett, I appreciate you being hopeful. But there’s never going to be anything romantic going on with me and Will.” I felt my eyes beginning to water and I ran my fingers through my hair slowly feeling a tightening in my chest. I grabbed my chest gasping for air not expecting this to happen. “I mean why would he ever go for me. He has a girlfriend, regardless if she’s a bitch. But it’s fine – argh!”
Brett rushed forward catching my body before I could hit the concrete. “Y/n! Hey, hey, woah, woah. Kelly! Casey! I need some help out here.” She shouted before my eyes got heavy and I loosened my grip on her arms passing out on her.
I’m not sure how long I was out for by the time I slowly blinked my eyes opened and saw some bright lights that clearly looked like the hospital lights. I sucked in some breaths feeling a mask over my nose and mouth meaning asthma medicine was getting pushed into my body. The curtain drew open and I saw Rhodes enter the room carrying a chart underneath one arm. “Hey Y/n, you’re breathing seems to be doing better. I’ll just slowly take this off now.”
“Thanks Dr. Rhodes uh where’s Brett – at?” I coughed after he pulled the mask down from my face and helping me sit upright more on the pillows.
He glanced towards the curtain answering my question. “She’s outside by the nurse desk. Will is actually with her too.”
“He is?” I asked leaning up feeling hopeful for a brief second.
He nodded walking out into the hallway waving them inside the room. Brett came in and smiled brightly hugging me and I hugged her back pulling away letting my best friend have my attention more than her. “I’ll let you two talk for a bit. Come talk with you afterwards.” She stepped outside the room back into the hallway leaving the two of us alone.
“I was so worried about you when I saw Brett bring you in like that. I mean I thought we had a better understanding going here. That – that we – “He stuttered out his words frantically running a hand through his auburn curls. “You’re my best friend so I thought you’d tell me if something bad was really going on with you.”
I did my best to lie, biting my lip unknowingly. “Will, I just had a small episode. You know flare ups can happen from almost anything.”
“I’m aware of that. But that’s not the point.”
I snapped. “The point doesn’t matter.”
“Yes it does matter.”
Shaking my head I wished he wasn’t so argumentative like I was. “No it doesn’t. Look I’m fine now so we don’t have to have this conversation anymore.
“Yes, enough of this. Okay I know you’re lying o me about something and I’m hurt that you didn’t feel comfortable enough to talk to me about it.” He raised his hands in the air.
I rolled my eyes wishing this wasn’t happening right now between us. “You don’t need to know all of my business, William!”
“We’ll excuse me. I thought us being childhood best friends meant we were much closer than you think we are!” He raised his voice at me in frustration.
Clutching my hands into fists punching the hospital bed sheets shouting up at my best friend with some tears falling down my face. “Gosh damn it Will just stop it. I don’t want to be your friend who is always a patient in your eyes. I know that’s all I’m ever going to be!”
“What. Who, who told you that?” Will made a confused face at me.
I scoffed. “That blonde girl named Brooke you’re dating. She told me facts that you clearly aren’t comfortable saying to my face.”
“Why would she say those things. We’re not together anymore.” He responded.
I parted my lips thinking he was joking. “You’re not. Why – why not?”
“She just liked the idea of dating an ED doc. I broke up with her last Friday. That’s what I was wanting to talk with you about in my multiple phone calls. But I guess I got my answer when you never answered.” His gaze lowered down to the floor and he went to leave.
I gently called his attention. “Will, wait a sec. What was the calls about?”
“They were about my feelings for you.”
Sucking in a shacky breath I wasn’t sure how to feel about what he was about to say. “Will, are you saying that you think of me more than a friend?”
Rather than giving me a verbal response he strides forward climbing up onto my bed with his legs on either side of mine. He gently grabs my face in his hands crashing his lips down onto mine not giving me a chance to say anything. It took me a minute before I ran my fingers up his arms wrapping my arms around his kissing him back.
Threading my fingers through his hair, tugging on it hearing him moan into the kiss. I thought this was a dream for a brief moment until he broke the kiss resting his forehead against mine. “You’ve always been more than a friend to me. I just - didn’t want to say anything and ruin what we have if you didn’t feel the same. And don’t ever think for a minute that you’re just a patient to me. You’re anything else but that Y/n.”
“It’s crazy that my reasoning for not telling you how I felt before now is the same reason as yours. It’s a relief we both come off as idiots in love.” I smiled chuckling resting my other hand on his cheek.
He sent me a cheecky grin. “Well can this idiot in love officially ask you out on a date tonight?”
“Yes, yes I’ll go on a date with you.” I leaned forward beginning the next kiss we shared. We were entirely too worried for nothing and it wasn’t too long after a few dates that Will was already working on having me become his Mrs. Halstead.
Comments really appreciated ❤️

Littlest Halstead

Jay Halstead was a great father to you, Y/N Halstead, and if you asked anyone if he was a good dad they would say that he's not just a good dad but a great dad. He has loved you ever since you were born and he thought he could spot anything since he was a detective but he was wrong and he found that out one night.
You were sick. You just felt run down and just overall felt like shit, especially when it came to playing your favorite sport, softball. Recently your entire 5th grade class had been going through a round of sickness. Some had the flu, some had a viral infection, and some just had a cold. You were lucky enough not to get anything until last week.
Jay had been busy with a case that he admits that he wasn't paying as close attention as he normally did. Even though he wasn't paying as much attention he did pick up some stuff like your lack of wanting to eat and you being really cuddly towards him, a movement that you only did when you were sick or getting sick. He wasn't concerned enough to call your uncle, Will Halstead, just yet but that would all change tonight.
You started to feel sick one Monday morning and it just progressed from there. Jay was in the kitchen preparing for his day at work and preparing your lunch for the day. He looked down at his watch and smiled when he saw that it would soon be time for your footsteps to start padding down the hallway. A few minutes went by and no sign from you which made him frown. “Wonder what the holdup is?” He asked himself as he put down what he was doing and walked to your room. He gently knocked on the door and usually he would get a response but he didn't. “Y/N/N it's time to get up for school.” He said using a soothing fatherly tone as he opened the door.
“Daddy?” You asked lazily looking up at him and he furrowed his eyebrows that's not like you.
“It's me, Baby Girl. It's time to get up.” He said coming to sit by you on your bed and just like a magnet you curled into him. He didn't think much of it, he just thought you wanted to be near him. “Are you ok?” He asked as he cuddled you and you nodded, you didn't want to inconvenience him.
“Yea I'm fine.” You lied easily. He didn't look convinced but went with it.
“Ok. We need to leave in 10 minutes so you need to get up and get ready.” He said and you nodded. He bent down and kissed your head and hugged you then he was getting up and leaving. Once he was gone you were sluggish to get up. It was like your movements were in slow motion and everything hurt but you powered through it. The time you got to the kitchen your father was already packing your lunch in your lunch box and grabbing your bag and waited by the front door. “Khloe and her mom are taking you to practice and I will pick you up after ball.” He said as he handed you some breakfast and your water bottle.
“Ok.” You said as you slipped on your shoes and then your backpack and took the lunch box from him. He nodded and then the both of you were out the door.
Once outside and in his truck that you loved so much you settled into the passenger seat and got comfortable. As you started to move you started to feel better and your dad picked up on this so the concern, he had this morning went out the window. You ate all your breakfast sandwich that your dad made that you loved and drank some of your water. He was really a good cook even though he doesn't like to admit it. The truck ride was filled with low music and quiet laughter and smiles. You definitely felt better after eating something. He pulled up to the school and parked and you got ready to get out. “Remember Khloe is taking you to practice and I will be picking you up.” He said and you nodded.
“Got it, Dad.” You added smiling and he smiled and nodded then you were getting out and opening the backdoor to grab your softball gear.
“I love you.” He said as he looked back at you.
“I love you too.” You said and then closed the door. He made sure you were in the school before driving off. You sighed preparing yourself to start the long boring day and the dreaded practice.
Throughout the school day you were back to feeling sluggish and your nose started to run. You also just wanted to lay down on something cold and take a nap. “Ms. Halstead, are you feeling, ok?” Mrs. Jean asked while everyone was at recess, you had been staying close to the bleachers and the students, which wasn't like you, you took a minute to respond but you nodded your head. She came over to you and sat next to you. It took a minute for you to notice she was there and you turned to look at her.
“I'm ok.” You said in a quiet voice.
“You look a little pale. Why don't you head to the nurse to lay down?” She asked in a concerning motherly tone; she did have 4 kids of her own. You shook your head.
“I'm really ok.” You said and she smiled softly at you.
“Ok. I won't push you. If you start feeling worse let me know and you can go to the nurse.” She said and you nodded at her and then she got up and left.
Lunch came and you didn’t feel like eating so you hardly ate anything. You left the rest in the lunchbox and went on with your day. The rest of the day you just dragged throughout the day not having the energy to do anything. When it came to gym class Mrs. Link let you set out because she could see how much you were struggling today. By the end of the day, you were feeling worse and you just wanted your dad but first you needed to get through softball practice.
“Hey, are you ready to go?” Khloe asked as she came up to you with her bag and gear. You looked at her smiling and nodded.
“Yea, I’m ready.” You said and she smiled and the two of you walked out. You grabbed your water bottle and downed half of it as you got to her mom’s car. Drinking something helped so you weren’t too concerned.
“Good afternoon, girls. Did you have a good day at school?” Khloe’s mom asked.
“It was alright.” You said and she frowned.
“You look a little pale my dear. Are you feeling, ok?” She asked as she looked at you.
“She hasn’t been feeling good since this morning.” Khloe said and you elbowed her. “What? I could see it when you walked in and didn’t say hi to me.” She said and you huffed and sunk into the seat. Her mother nodded but you knew she was still concerned. The car ride to the field was filled with car music and Khloe and her mom talking and laughing. You would comment when needed but you were just trying not to throw up. When you arrived at the field all three of you got out. You and Khloe grabbed your gear and you your backpack and walked over to the dugout and started to get ready.
You went through the motions of practice not really putting in the effort and everyone could see that which is why you had gotten pulled over to the side by Coach Ludgate. “Sweetie, are you feeling, ok?” She asked and you shrugged your shoulders.
“Yes.” You said and she looked at you in a concerned fatherly look. “No.” You admitted and he smiled softly at you and nodded.
“I can tell. You’re red in the face and you look pale. You also don’t seem as energetic as other times. Why don’t you go sit in the dugout out of the sun and cool off? Can’t have my best player collapsing on me.” He said smiling and you smiled back and walked sluggishly back to the dugout and laid down on the bench and closed your eyes. You don’t know how long you had your eyes closed but you then felt something cool being draped over your head. Your eyes shot open quickly and you came face to face with your dad.
“Dad?” You asked and he smiled, running a hand through your hair.
“Hey, Baby Girl. Thought I would come early and watch you practice. When I asked where you were they led me here.” He said and tears welled up in your eyes. “What’s wrong?” He asked as you sat up.
“I don't feel good.” You said quietly and he nodded, smiling softly.
“Let’s get you home. How long have you been feeling this way?” He asked
“Since this morning.” You said as you got up and grabbed your stuff and he nodded. He turned to look at your coach and he nodded and so the two of you made your way to his car and then home.
“Why didn't you let me know?” He asked as he threw your bags into the backseat.
“You were busy and I didn't want to disturb you or put more on your plate because you had a sick kid.” You said and his heart broke. For such a young kid you were smart and very generous of people's feelings.
“I would do anything for you.” He said and you nodded and sank into the cool leather of his truck. The ride home was quiet and uneventful; you had actually closed your eyes and fallen asleep. The music was down low so as to not disturb you. Jay was beating himself up, he should've seen the signs, he should've asked questions, he's a detective he should be able to pick up on things especially when it came to his own daughter. But you were just like him and you hid a lot of things well and you didn't let emotions show. By the time you got to the apartment you were out. He parked the truck and turned off the ignition. He sighed “Looks like I’ll be carrying you.” He said, chuckling to himself. He opened his door and got out then went over to the passenger side first grabbing your backpack and slung it over his shoulder and then he quietly shut the door and opened the passenger door. He quickly worked to get you unbuckled and then he picked you up, you threw your arms around him out of habit and buried your head into his neck. The moment your head touched his skin he knew how sick you were. You were warm despite having the ac blowing in the truck. As he situated you in his arms, he shut the door and locked it and started to head to the building.
“Good afternoon, Jay. I see you have a sleepy one.” Mrs. Mueller Quell, your elderly neighbor, and Jay smiled and nodded.
“Yea, she's not feeling good at the moment. Going to get her settled.” He said and she smiled and nodded.
“You should make her your famous chicken noodle soup. I know me and Grant love it.” She said
“I just might do that. We'll see you later.” He said and she smiled.
“If you need anything let us know. We've taken care of a few sick kids.” She said as she began to walk away to the mailroom.
“I will be.” He said as he got onto the elevator and pressed the button for the correct floor. He was amazed that you had slept through that interaction. As the elevator went up and eventually dinged, he walked out. In just a few quick long strides he was arriving at the door. He skillfully got his key out and unlocked it making sure to quietly shut it as he walked in. He sat your bag down and kicked off his shoes. He walked over to the couch and gently set you down but you had a grip on him like no other and he chuckled. He gently pried your grip apart and then laid you down, took your shoes off, then covered you up with a light thin blanket. He went into the kitchen to grab the children's Tylenol and pulled up the right dose and walked back into the living room. He hated to wake you up but he needed you to take it. “Baby Girl, can you wake up and take this for me? I promise you can go back to sleep.” He said as you opened your eyes and took the medicine and went directly back to sleep. He walked into the kitchen and put the now dirty cup in the sink. He then went to your backpack and there he sat your shoes down. He picked up your backpack and set it on the table and started to unpack it. At first it was all normal and he saw all the work that was sent home but everything was done and he smiled. You always finished your homework early; he had asked why and you responded casually saying that if you got it done early you could have more play time. He was shocked but he understood it and it was actually smart. As he was going through your backpack his phone started to ring. The shrill of the ringer was loud and he was quick to take it out of his pocket and answer it without looking at it just to get it to stop ringing and not wake you up.
“Detective Jay Halstead.” He said quickly.
“Well hello Detective Jay Halstead.” Hailey’s voice came through with a chuckle.
“Sorry, Hails. I didn't look at my phone. What's up?” He asked
“I just wanted to see if you and Y/N wanted to go out to a movie and ice cream.” She said and he smiled at that and looked over at you still sleeping. He began seeing Hailey when you were 9 years old and had just turned 10 years old. She was making the effort to connect with you and it was working.
“We're going to have to take a rain check on that. She's not feeling all that great. Didn't even practice at softball.” He said
“Oh man she must be bad off. That's not like her. She loves the sport.” She said and he smiled loving the thought that she actually paid attention to your interests.
“Yeah, she does.” He said, chuckling.
“I could pick some stuff up and come over.” She offered
“I would like that and she would too. She's asleep right now.” He said
“Anything specific you need?” She asked
“I think I'm out of children's Tylenol, just gave her the last dose, and cold medicine, do you mind getting that?” He asked
“Not at all! I'll be over there soon.” She said
“Thank you.” Jay said
“Anything for my boyfriend and his lovely daughter.” She replied and he smiled and chuckled and then they were both hanging up the phone.
When Jay got your lunch box, he pulled it out and opened and was shocked that there was most of your lunch still left. You love your food and would take any chance to eat it. All this just told him how sick you were. “Oh, Baby Girl.” He said, sighing. He got all of the stuff out and put the items that needed to be refrigerated in the fridge.
“Daddy?” You asked sitting up and he was over to you in a matter of seconds bending down in front of you.
“Hey, Baby Girl. What's wrong?” He asked and you looked at him. Your eyes weren't as bright as they usually are and you overall just didn't look great.
“I'm hungry.” You said and he smiled and ran a hand through your sweat soaked hair.
“Do you want some soup and crackers?” He asked and you nodded.
“Please.” You said and he smiled and nodded. He had taught you to be polite from a young age. Before he left, he grabbed the remote and handed it to you. You turned it on and turned on Disney+ and turned on Wizards of Waverly Place. You settled in as Jay went to the kitchen to see what soup he had on hand in the meantime. He grabbed the saltine crackers and then some canned chicken and noodle soup. He would have to go to the grocery later, he would've had Hailey pick it up but there was more he needed to get and he didn't want her to pay for his groceries. He quickly got to work on getting your food ready and when it was, he brought it into the living room and you sluggishly sat up and he could see this. He sat down and then gave it to you. You instantly cuddled into his side.
“Careful it's hot.” He said and you nodded and then started to eat. You ate about half of it and 3 crackers before you were handing it back to him and he was sitting it on the coffee table in front of you, you snuggled into him and he instantly cuddled you. As he sat there with you, he could hear now that you had become congested, he brought a hand to your forehead and frowned you were warmer than you were when he got you out of the truck. “You really don’t feel good do you, Baby Girl?” He asked as you snuggled into him more.
“No.” You said in a quiet voice and his heart broke. He kissed the top of your head.
“Hailey is on her way over with some medicine.” He said and you nodded but continued to snuggle into your father. It wasn’t 2 minutes later that there was a knock on the door and he was getting up to answer it but not without you whimpering out for him. “I’ll be right back. I promise. Hailey is here.” He said and you nodded and you let him get up but as he stood up and second later you were standing up and tucking yourself into his side.
“I don’t want to leave you.” You whined, tears welling up in your eyes and threatening to spill and a sniffle from you being sick and the tears.
“Ok ok you don’t have to.” He said as he picked you up and walked towards the door. You snuggled into him and wrapped your arms around his neck and legs locked around his waist. Yup you were definitely sick you were being super clingy. He got to the door and unlocked it then opened it and there stood his girlfriend/partner with bags of medicine and a cup holder filled with three drinks, milkshakes to be exact.
“Hey you two.” Hailey said and Jay smiled but you had already fallen asleep.
“Hey.” Jay said and leaned in to kiss her and she ran a hand through your hair. “I think she is asleep.” He said chuckling and she nodded in agreement.
“Well, she can have her milkshake later. I thought something cold would be nice.” Hailey said and Jay smiled as he led her in.
“You didn’t have to do that.” He said
“I wanted to. I love her like she is my own.” Hailey said having not seen his face since her back was turned to him as she put things away and your milkshake in the freezer. His face was one of love and appreciation.
“I can’t even begin on how to thank you.” Jay said and she shook her head.
“No need.” She replied as she turned around to look at Jay holding you and she practically melted right then and there.
“I’m going to try and go put her down. Then I will be right back out.” He said and she smiled and nodded.
“Take your time.” She said and he nodded and turned heading to your room. Jay walked down the hallway into your room he walked you to your bed and started to gently lay you down and you whimpered.
“No.” You whined as he laid you down and sat on the side of the bed.
“You’ll be much more comfortable here than on me. I promise. I’ll be in the living room with Hailey so I’ll be able to hear you if you call. Ok?” He asked and you looked at him tiredly and nodded.
“Ok. Tell her I said hi.” You said and it ended with a cough and he smiled as he ran a hand through your hair.
“I will. Now get some rest.” He said leaning up and kissing you on your sweaty hot forehead.
“Ok.” You whispered as your eyes closed and you were out like a light. He tucked you in and gave you your favorite stuffed animal and headed out of your room making sure to crack the door slightly. He looked at you one more time and then he was walking back to the living room.
“How is she?” Hailey asked
“She’s warmer than normal and she coughed which was new. She ate about half of her soup and 3 crackers before she was putting it down and snuggling into me before you got here.” Jay said
“What do you think it could be?” She asked and he shrugged.
“It could be anything. There has been some sickness going around her class but honestly don’t know.” Jay said as he grabbed your half-eaten soup and package of crackers into the kitchen. He put the bowl in the sink and the crackers back in the cabinet then he walked back into the living room, Hailey handed him his milkshake “Thank you.” He said and sat down and turned on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, a cop show that they were watching together. Jay slung an arm over shoulders and pulled her into him and they drank their milkshakes. They loved to comment on everything but it was mostly a show they didn’t have to really think about but with them both being detectives they ran the cases that were showing on the TV. They probably got about 3 hours into it, it was 8 PM, before you started to cough more and more and that concerned him. He had decided that he wouldn’t be going into work tomorrow and had let Voight know beforehand and he gave his approval saying family came first. “I’m going to check on her.” He said as he paused the show and Hailey nodded and sat up for him to go to your room. As he was walking to your room you started to cough more and more. He walked into the room and you were still sound asleep but coughing a really deep cough. He walked over and sat down on your bed and rubbed you back as you were turned onto your stomach. “Baby Girl.” He said and started to wake you up and all he got was a cough that he could feel wracking your body. “Hey, wake up.” He said as he started to pick you up and you snuggled into him.
“Daddy?” You asked followed by a cough.
“Yea, it's me. Hey, do you want to come into the living room with us? You coughing is worrying me.” He said and you looked at him and your eyes weren’t as bright as they were when you weren’t sick.
“Please.” You said and she smiled and got up and went into the kitchen to grab the milkshake. She put it in the microwave to soften it slightly and then walked back into the living room and handed it to you as she sat down. You took it but you were shaking and that concerned them both. Whatever you had zapped the energy out of you. “Thank you.” You said and took a sip of it and she smiled.
“Yea.” You said followed by a cough and he nodded and then he picked you up and took you into the living room. He was quick to dim the lights until it was semi-dark and Hailey was already making a spot for you between them. “Hi.” You said when you spotted her but it wasn’t as energized as before.
“Hi Sweetie.” She said with a smile as Jay sat down then he disappeared to grab more children’s Tylenol and come back in. He sat down on the other side of you and you somehow ended up more on him. “I heard you weren’t feeling good.” She said and ran a hand through your hair and you nodded snuggling more into your father and she smiled “I brought you a milkshake. Do you want it?” She asked and you looked up at your dad and he looked down at you and you nodded. You looked over at her and she could see the nonexistent light.
“You’re welcome, Sweetie.” She said
“Here, take this and wash it down with the milkshake.” Jay said and you nodded and said what you were told. Then they were turning their attention back to the TV as Jay pressed play. You watched it but didn’t pay any attention to it, not even finishing your milkshake. You were falling back to sleep and he was taking the cup out of your hands and putting it on the side table.
“She only drank half of it. She’s definitely not feeling well.” Jay said as you let out a cough.
“I hope she feels better soon. I hate seeing her like this.” Hailey said and Jay nodded.
“Me too.” He said
Around an hour later Jay was putting you back into your bed and he was bye to Hailey and he was heading off to get ready for bed and when they were done, they slid in and fell into a somewhat peaceful sleep. You coughed and coughed throughout the night and it seemed like it got worse when you were laying down. Jay being your parent had parent ears on all the time and they never turned off so when you stopped coughing during the night he was instantly awake and sitting up. He walked into the room and he was instantly kneeling by your bedside and he could see you breathing and he sighed but he wanted to wake you up just in case. “Y/N. Baby Girl. Can you wake up for me?” He asked as he petted your hair and you let out a cough and slowly cracked your eyes as best as you could but they were almost like caked shut and he could see that. “Oh, Baby Girl.” He said as he started to take the goop away from your eyes. As you started coughing again you started wheezing and that brought a new worry to your father that was new. It was time to call Will. “Come here.” He said picking you up and taking you into his bedroom and laid you down on his bed while he picked up his phone and unlocked it and pulled up his brother’s contact information and pressing call.
“I’m sorry for waking you up but no everything isn’t ok. Y/N is sick and at first, I could handle it but then she started coughing and just a little bit ago she stopped and now her eyes are filled with goop and she is wheezing.” Jay explained keeping watch over as you slept and wheezed.
“Jay? It’s 4 in the morning. Everything ok?” Will asked, voice full asleep.
“Has she been running a temperature?” Will asked
“She didn’t even practice?” Will asked
“She’s been running hot ever since I picked her up from softball practice where she was lying on the bench.” Jay said
“No, she was pale and sweaty and red in the face.” He replied
“Oh, damn she must be really sick. Go get a thermometer and take her temperature and tell me what it is.” Will said and Jay did just that. “Have you given her any medication?” He asked.
“No, not recently.” Jay said as he walked into this bathroom to retrieve one of many thermometers. “She had a dose of children's Tylenol when we got home and then at 8 PM.” Jay said as he grabbed it and then walked back into the bedroom. “Alright, I'm taking her temperature now.” He said and put it in your ear and you didn't move you were so sick you didn't even care.
“Has she thrown up any?” Will asked, already getting out of bed and getting ready to head over to the other Halstead household.
“No.” Jay said as the thermometer beeped. “102.2.” He read it out loud.
“It should've gone down with the children's Tylenol.” Will said, worrying about his one and only niece. “Let me hear her.” He said and Jay put the phone on speaker and put it next to you. You coughed and started to wheeze and Will sighed. “Let me grab some stuff from the hospital and I'll be right over.” Will said.
“Ok.” Jay said “We'll see you soon.” He said and then they both were hanging up the phone. Jay was worried and now Will was worried. He hated waking his brother up after he worked a 24-hr. shift but he didn't know what to do. Jay laid down next to you and shut his eyes.
30 minutes went by and he was jerking awake by a knock on the door and he was making sure you were breathing before he got up. He was surprised you didn’t wake up to the knock because you were such a light sleeper much like him. You coughed and were still wheezing and that broke his heart. He was quick to get to the door and open it to reveal his brother. “Hey, how is she?” Will asked as he walked in and Jay closed the door.
“Still wheezing and coughing.” He said as he led Will to his bedroom.
“Has she had anything to eat?” His brother asked and he nodded.
“Half a bowl of soup, 3 crackers, and half a milkshake.” Jay replied
“Normally she would eat everything. She has a fast metabolism.” Will said as they walked into the bedroom and you were in the middle of bed.
“That’s what I’m worried about. What did you have to get?” Jay asked
“I went and got a nebulizer with some medicine that will help with the wheezing and hopefully it’ll help with the cough as well.” He said
“What do we do about the coughing?” Jay asked as he stood arms crossed watching you and Will was looking at him.
“You need to be careful not to suppress a productive cough too much, unless it's keeping her from getting enough rest. Coughing can be useful, it can help clear the throat and airway of germs, mucus and dust. If it doesn't go away or comes with other symptoms like shortness of breath, mucus production or bloody phlegm then that could be the sign of a more serious medical problem and would need to be addressed.” Will said giving out medical information easily and keeping it to where Jay could understand it. Jay nodded glad to have a doctor for a brother.
“What should we do first?” Jay asked
“I wanna assess her and then go from there and that means unfortunately waking her up.” Will said and Jay said and nodded and went and sat down on the bed and began to wake you up. When you were awake and looked at him confused you then spotted Will and gave him a weak smile and he sadly smiled back at you. He could tell right away that you didn’t feel good. He approached you and sat on the other side of the bed. “Hey, Kiddo. I heard you weren’t feeling good.” He said in a sympathetic voice he used for his younger patients. You shook your head and cuddled into your father.
“Yea.” You said in a quiet voice and that wasn’t like you. You then coughed and coughed until you started gagging. Will was quick to grab the empty trash can by the nightstand and thrust it under just in time for you to expel everything in your stomach, which wasn’t much. Jay held your hair and rubbed your back.
“It’s ok, Baby Girl. Let it all out.” He said and once you were dry heaving you practically collapsed into your father exhausted. “That was new.” Jay said and Will sighed he hated seeing you in such a state, you were naturally a strong-willed girl much like your father and to see you dwindle down to nothing saddens him.
“I’m going to listen to you and take a couple of vitals. You don’t have to move from Jay, ok?” He asked
“Ok.” You said in a now hoarse voice. Having no energy you just sat there while Will checked you over, you actually started to fall asleep.
“Is she asleep?” Will asked and Jay looked down at you and your eyes were closed and head resting on his chest.
“She’s asleep.” Jay said, looking back up at his brother.
“She’s really is sick.” Will said and Jay nodded. “I want to get a dose of medicine from the nebulizer in her and I want her to be awake for that but if she falls asleep during it then it should be fine.” Will added and Jay nodded and once again he was waking you up and he felt so bad about it. When you were awake Will explained what the machine was and what it does and he could tell that you were listening but not fully there but enough to understand. He hooked the machine up and put the medicine in and then handed the piece to Jay who put it over your nose and mouth. At first you protested but when you started to feel better and not wheezing you embraced it and leaned into your father and started to fall asleep the brothers talked about whatever came to their mind mostly the recent Jayhawks game. Once the medicine was done, Jay, not having the heart to move you back to your room, tucked you into his bed and then the brothers were heading into the living room.
“How long do you think it’ll be before she gets better?” Jay asked
“I’m thinking and hoping in a couple days but it may take a week or two.” Will said and Jay sighed but nodded. Jay looked at his watch and saw that it was 5 AM. He looked up at his brother.
“I can either make us some coffee or we can try to get some sleep. Guest room is free.” Jay said
“I’m gonna get some sleep and I suggest you do the same.” Will said and Jay smiled.
“You’re the doctor, you know what is best.” Jay said a smile turning into a smirk and Will rolled his eyes but smiled. As they headed for the rooms Jay’s phone pinged and he looked at it. “Her school has been closed due to so many kids sick.” Jay said and Will nodded.
“That’s what needed to happen when all of this started.” Will said and Jay nodded in agreement. They walked into the rooms and Jay got into bed and somehow you sensed he was there because you were cuddling into him. He smiled and cuddled you kissing your head as he was doing so, he noticed that you weren’t wheezing anymore and the coughing had died down. Once he knew you were ok, he let himself relax and eyes closed and he actually fell asleep.
The next morning Jay was waking up and he was expecting you to be next to him but you weren’t and that made him confused until he heard the laughing coming from the kitchen and followed by your cough. He slowly got out of the bed and walked into the kitchen to find you and Will up to now good. “Good morning, Daddy.” You said in a hoarse voice when you spotted him and that made Will look over in his direction.
“Good morning.” Will greeted
“How are you feeling?” Jay asked and you shrugged. He could see your eyes were not as bright.
“Not great but not worse.” You said and coughed deeply and Jay was rushing over to you rubbing your back. After you were done you took a deep breath and nodded.
“You ok?” He asked and you nodded.
“I’m ok.” You said “We decided to make breakfast.” You said and he smiled and kissed your head.
“You’re actually trusting Uncle Will with the kitchen?” Jay joked
“Hey! I can cook.” Will defended
“No, that’s why I’m supervising.” You said throwing a signature Halstead smirk.
“Oh lord, good thing we have Firehouse 51 on speed dial.” Jay said and everyone laughed. The morning was filled with laughter and joking and eating and every now and then your coughs. By the afternoon you were in the middle of them passed out on the couch as they watched a random hockey game. By the end of the day Will had gone back home but he made Jay promise to keep him updated and he stuck to his promise. Throughout the next week you were getting stronger and light was coming back to your eyes. The coughing had subsided. Your school opened back up and Jay went back to work. You were actually able to get through a softball practice.
By week 3 you were back to normal. Your eyes were bright, you were eating like your normal self, and you were energized again. Everyone was currently at your softball game and of course you were winning. “She’s back to her normal self, I see.” Will said and Jay nodded.
“Yeah she is. I’m so glad about it too.” He replied
“She even had me worried.” Hailey said “I never have to worry about her, she is too much like her daddy that she doesn’t need to be worried about.” She added and everyone nodded in agreement. The crowd erupted in a cheer and they looked up in time for you to slide and steal home base to win the game. Everyone cheered and crowded around you. Once everyone cleared out and you grabbed your stuff you walked over to your dad, uncle, and Hailey.
“Great job, Kiddo!” Will said and brought you in for a tight hug.
“Thank you, Uncle Will.” You said and hugged him back.
“You did an amazing job, Baby Girl.” Jay said and hugged you after you got done with Will.
“You were amazing out there. I’m so glad you’re back to your normal self.” She said running a hand over her head and you smiled and looked up from your position from hugging your father and smiled at her.
“Thank you.” You said and then you snuggled into your father’s side and looked at Will. “Thank you for being Dr. Uncle Will.” You said and he smiled.
“Anytime, Kiddo. I hate seeing you so down.” He said
“We all do.” Jay said
You hated being sick and being down for so long. You hated not being up and doing something and you got that from your dad honestly. Hopefully you wouldn’t be getting that sick again but you never know what life would throw your way. Next time could be just a 24-hr. bug or it could put you in the hospital, you just never know.

Right??
I have very similar thoughts on this, like yeah I get it, they're good looking, they're nice, they look cute together or whatever, but character wise?? Yeah those are some good actors, but let's be honest character wise they weren't that extraordinary to obsses so much over them.
And yeah there's some charm and magnetism about characters who constantly try to stay on "the light side" or have a strong moral compass, but have you guys actually watch the show??? No character in the whole one Chicago universe, not one on the dickwolf universe to be fair, is completely moraly right or is completely clean or free of guilt, they all have shades of gray, not just Hank, he is just the most obvious/cynical about it, and if there's something the series show fequently is that sometimes the harder you try to stay "light" the easier you'll end up doing something with a darker result. Just take a minute to think about PD alone, Hank does some really dark things but at the end of the day it's for a greater good, and before anyone even try to argue that at least take the time to ACTUALLY watch the show, to ACTUALLY comprehend the story, not just drool over the actors appearances or whatever fan thoghts you have about your characters.
We're not saying Jay and/or Hailey are not good characters, they are, they have their own things that are quite good and enjoyable even likable, but honestly they are not that interesting/new/great. Sorry if that or the next things hurt anyones feeling but honestly they are the tipical fearless chaotic doom/fail romance every show has just because there wasn't enough drama. Which leads me to my next point.
The obssesion over Jesse/Jay is way bigger whenever he gets into a relationship no matter with who, same to Hailey/Tracy, like you can't not hide/lie about it, now is Upstead, but it once was Linstead or Upzek, whatever the name is, and it still is for some people, and yeah I get it it's fun to give a little more drama to shows adding romance here and there and shipping or whatever (personally I have never quite understood shipping characters but like yeah can be fun) and that's mainly because amatonormativity in our society, that can not see two people care/love each other so deeply without making it romantic, and let me tell you sometimes loving someone platonicly can be way deeper/important/bonding than romantic wise. So on that note I'd like to ask Upstead shippers/fans do you actually like the characters, like their actual traits/believes/ behaivoirs/decisions? or is it just because you get excited imagining all this romantic thrill that seems there's going on on the show just because TV knows romance is a good business?? Like really think about it, how many shows (whose main focus is not romance) have you watch just because there was a good romance/ship?
As @chicago-pd-is-weird said if you don't like the show for what it actually is, or for who it is actually about, don't torture your selves watching it just to see 3 minutes about the drama of 2 side characters, or for 3 seconds of your favorite actor, like trust me is not worth it.
Now if you have read all that and still think like your ship/character/favorite actor is worth suffering so much, and want to create fan content for them go ahead, but do not tag the things you don't like or that are not related, 'cause if you're doing it is because you like/love what you are creating, because you want to see that, not to get followers/likes/notes/reblogs whatever, 'cause you'll be filling other people's feed with content they might not want to see, or might not be interested on, and making them harder to find what they really want to see.
*Long Sigh*
TL;DR - Why do Tracy (Hailey) and Jesse (Jay) from Chicago PD get so much attention for no reason? What’s the matter with other characters/actors?
Listen guys, I get it. I understand. Y’all love Tracy and Jesse. But come on - one post on Instagram and I see it several times?
It isn’t right that I get more posts about Jesse, Tracy, Jay, Hailey or Upstead (and whatever their ship name is for their actors) in general than for things I actually care about in Chicago PD. I am glad they’re living life and having fun and being friends or whatever they decide but I just don’t understand the hype.
Shipping characters is great. Actors, alright, as long as it’s not pushed onto them or pressuring them in any way. But I mean… where’s the love for everyone else? I rarely see appreciation posts for Elias Koteas (Al), Jon Seda (Antonio), Patrick John Flueger (Adam), Marina Squerciati (Kim), LaRoyce Hawkins (Kevin), Amy Morton (Trudy) or any of the other actors/characters aside from Jason Beghe/Hank Voight. Everything else under the Chicago PD tag is Jay/Hailey stuff…
I guess I’m just thinking it’s not fair that Jay/Hailey get all of this attention when we haven’t even gotten a gif set of the S11 finale with Hank and Al (except when I asked myself and @andgry4 made me a very beautiful one). But I had to ask!!! Everyone just cared about Tracy’s departure from the show and said it wasn’t enough when the whole episode was about her. :/
The show is about Hank and always has been. He’s the main character, period. How does everyone hate him? I love his complex character. Not to mention how much better and complex his character is than anyone in Chicago Fire. (Not bashing the actors, but the characters themselves.)
I personally never cared for Hailey and I understand loving one character a lot, but when Tracy/Jesse post something on Instagram, it’s a big thing? Why? Who cares? And why do I have to see it four times per day with 0 other posts about anything else PD under the Chicago PD tag? (The Instagram post wasn’t even about Chicago PD, they weren’t on set or anything, so why tag it that??)
I guess I’m just wondering what makes them so special over anyone else from the show? :/ It is obnoxious that so many people love them so much and “aren’t watching anymore” or are “finally free” because Tracy and Jesse left. If you didn’t like the show, why watch in the first place? I like Jon Seda, but I only watched one season of La Brea because it got kinda boring to me. I wasn’t “finally free” of it, I just stopped watching - simple as that. If you don’t like the show, quit watching. I don’t care who’s on it. It could be my favorite actor and yet if it wasn’t interesting, I wouldn’t watch it…
It’s incomprehensible to me why they’re so special when they’re not even on the show anymore anyways… I get the fanfics and don’t mind them. But things like this? One post on Instagram that they’re being friends? Crazy how much attention the fandom gives to this instead of anything else Chicago PD related. 🤷‍♀️

Giggling - Jay Halstead
Requested: yes
Word count: 309
Warnings: none
a/n: sorry it's short
Masterlist
Tumblr media
“You smell real good, love" They say while nuzzling their nose in your shoulder and you start to laugh because it tickles so much but they won't stop doing that to make you all giggly”
Being with Jay was nice. It was safe. It was cozy. You felt truly loved. And every night you were reminded of how much you loved him. Sure he’d come home late sometimes but you were always there to accept him into bed with open arms.
And days where he wasn’t working, he would find you at some point throughout the day and shower you with his love and affection.
You were laying in bed, tired from the extra work you had put into your job yesterday, just trying to get your back to rest up a smidge.
Jay was on his side, eyes closed from the nap he’d been taking for a bit, and you sighed, deciding to flip onto your side and maybe catch some sleep too.
As soon as you rolled over, Jay looped his arm around you, pulling you to his chest. His breath tickled your neck as he hummed, “You smell really good baby,” He murmured, rubbing his face into your shoulder.
A laugh left your lips as his breath tickled across your skin. “Stop-“ You managed through a giggle, attempting to cover your neck with your shoulder.
He chuckled softly, nuzzling his face further into your neck, peppering kisses along with them,”Mmm, no,” Jay muttered, too distracted by the beauty of your laugh to stop himself.
“Jayy,” You dragged his name out, moving a hand to the side of his face to push him back, rolling over to face him with a wide smile still on your face. “Enough,” You added, firmly but with no actual malice or annoyance behind your words.
Jay popped his bottom lip out, sending you big green puppy eyes with the pout. Lightly you leaned down, pressing a quick kiss to his lips. “That’s for you to promise you won’t tickle me again.”
“I make no promises.”

Who are your mutuals or friends on here – and – who do you want to be your mutuals or friends?
Before I go into this I want to say. If you're looking for friends on here, want to talk about writing, fandoms, couple cannon or not message me! I love to talk to new people. My writing and coming on here has slowed a bit but I'm happy to talk!
It was nice to go through all these and reread some of the stories I loved and see if anything was new.
Mutuals that I talk to often
@polkadotpenguin16 and I talk often. I follow her stories and we often preread each other's stuff. Also just a generally awesome human. If you like Sonny Carisi (SVU) she has quite a few stories out now. And she gives awesome recs!
@chicaotaku17 and I have recently started chatting. They recently started writing for Chicago One. They have started a light hearted HalsteadSister fic if that is your jam.
People I follow & Recommend
I put some of these in another post but they deserve the credit and maybe this will help more people find them! Seriously check them out!
@felicitysmoaksx writes fanfics for Jay Halstead & Kim Burgess (Burgstead) for my followers who found me reading RRR. They also have a wide variety of stories for Connor Rhodes/ Sarah Reese that I love! It's my two favorite couples to read for One Chicago and they are both near impossible to find.
@tropes-and-tales-archives has awesome Sonny Carisi content that I reread probably a little too much. Whistle Down The Wind is probably my favorite at this point.
@bullet-prooflove writes for so many different fandoms and does a damn good job at it. Be warned if you start going through their masterlists you will be there for days. Totally worth the hyperfixation! I go back to comfort read all the time.
@plaidbooks SVU content- you will definitely spend some time on this page before you run out of things to read! Nick Amaro and Joe Velasco got it for me.
@svuwritings SVU mostly Nick Amarou and Sonny Carisi
@itsgrimeytime has great Rick Grimes content but I don't think they are actively posting anymore. Still, check them out!
@crossbowking Some of the best damn Daryl Dixon stories you will ever read. They capture him perfectly. Binge to your heart's content.
@arrowenchantress reblogs a lot of stories I like which introduces me to new authors. I think it's Rick Grimes and Logan Howlett (X-men) content that brought me to the page.
@storiesofsvu has so many fandoms for you to choose from SVU, Chicago PD, Criminal Minds, and NCIS
@fightmewiatch I'm pretty sure that Nick Torres content brought me to their page. But I keep around to read their Bucky Barnes, Steve Rogers, and Teen Wolf content.
@pascalispretty SVU stories. Sonny Carisi and Nick Armaro. They also have SonnyxRafael if that tickles your fancy.
@angelwings-crossbowstrings Daryl Dixon stories- need I say more. Enjoy

How Do I Do This?
Tumblr media
Fandom: Chicago PD/One Chicago
Pairing: Jay Halstead x Female!Reader; Kelly Severide x Platonic!Reader; Stella Kidd x Platonic!Reader
Warning/s: Mentions of Divorce, Anxiety and Alcohol Consumption
Request: No
Word Count: 979
A/N: This is based off of the song, How do I do This? by Kelsea Ballerini. You don’t need to listen to the song to get this by any means but I recommend you do! It’s a song that’s been on my mind for a while and I just love Kelsea’s music as a whole! It got a little away from me so apologies for that! I’m also still working on requests and some more chapters of my Jay Halstead fic so please be patient with me.
Enjoy!

Are you free Saturday? I know a spot
Those two texts come in rapid succession as you finish cleaning the store up. You’d usually try to avoid checking your phone so often in front of your manager, but by this time you were usually the only one left.
What did you have in mind?
You erase the message in-between organizing the new book shipment.
Saturday? That’s a little too close for me.
You erase that message while balancing the books for that day.
By the time you lock up the store and head home, you had thought up a couple million ways to respond before erasing them. Putting your key in the lock and you finally respond with a simple Yes.
Your next thought was right before you slid into bed for the night. Where the hell is your dress?
Specifically, your little black one that showed off all of your curves. The one that was probably lonely from being unused for so many years.
Having split from your husband over a year ago and trying to start fresh back in Chicago, you were worrying yourself into a spiral. You hadn’t been on a date since you were 22 and you were feeling out of place, getting back into the dating scene at 29.
You and your ex had grown apart from the moment your marriage started. You had done everything you could to keep everything together. You—being the one who made more money—had bought a big house. One that had room for you two to grow a family and have a backyard for a dog. It felt right at the time, maybe it would be enough so the walls didn’t seem like they were closing in.
You and your ex had been fine. But that’s all you were…fine. You finally convinced him to do therapy with you and, unfortunately, the final straw for you was when you realized that he loved you more at 23, then at 27.
You had filed for divorce not long after that. He claimed he hadn’t seen it coming, and fought you for the house. You gave into it, wanting him to just sign the papers and be done with it. In the end, when you signed your lease back in your home city of Chicago you finally checked the box “divorced.”
It had been quite the change, getting used to being back in the city. You contacted one of your oldest friends, Kelly Severide, to hang out and catch up.
It was at one of those meet ups that you met Kelly’s girlfriend, Stella Kidd, and the two of you hit it off instantly.
Now a year later, Stella and Kelly were getting ready to get married, and you voiced your thoughts to them about dating again. Stella said that she had a friend who was your type.
You had no idea what that meant, but after a few failed attempts at signing up for one of those awful dating apps, you gave Stella permission for her to give her friend your number.
The day after the first two texts were sent, he texted you again saying: Great! I’ll pick you up at 7.
You remembered at 22 being a little more cautious about a man picking you up for a date, but you trusted Kelly and Stella so you tried trusting this guy too.
It was hard, everything you’ve ever known about dating, relationships, and love had been ruined with the breakdown of your marriage. Now you wished it wasn’t affecting your thoughts this long after.
So is it any wonder that it’s 6:52 on Saturday and you’re trying to reassure yourself by saying you got this during your last looks in the mirror.
“You’ll be fine,” Kelly was saying over the speakerphone as you contemplated taking a shot to calm your nerves, “Do you think we don’t have your best interest at heart?”
“Kelly,” you say plainly, “It’s been years since I’ve been on a date. I’m gonna look so stupid stumbling over myself and what if he brings up my marriage? You told him about that right? How do I fucking do this? Is it wrong if I take a shot of something?”
“Stella,” you hear Kelly call from his end, obviously feeling like he needed backup, “she’s freaking out.”
“Yes I am.” You almost growl in confirmation, “I blame you both for this. What was I thinking?”
“Relax, girl,” Stella’s voice says over the line in a reassuring tone, “I got you. Look, I’ve known Jay for a while okay, and I’m sure you’ll charm the socks off of him.”
“Oh god,” you say, slapping a hand to your forehead almost dramatically, “I know he’s too good to be true. What have you done, Stella.”
“Breathe, Y/N,” Kelly says, his voice clear and unyielding.
There was a knock on the door. You jump slightly, looking up at the clock on the stove. 7:00 on the dot.
You curse, telling Kelly and Stella that he was there. They told you to have fun and they’ll call you later for details before immediately hanging up on you.
Cursing your friends once more, you open the door, and your breath lapses. You were going to kill Stella for understating his looks by saying he was “good-looking”.
He was much more than good-looking. He was gorgeous. His dark hair was cut evenly. His eyes were a mix of blue and green and freckles littered across his features. He was dressed for a date, his outfit lining the structures of his body. You feel slightly better about choosing your black dress for this, you may even want to wake up tomorrow with it on a floor that isn’t yours.
I’m ready, you tell yourself in your head.
And for the first time since this whole thing started, you believe it.

Figures
Fandom: Chicago Med
Characters: Halstead!Sister, Jay Halstead, Will Halstead
Genre: hurt/comfort, illness, fluff
Warnings: seizures, hospitals, injections
Word Count: 1897
Summary: The reader has a rough day of seizures, they are reluctant to go to Med until they have no choice. - but things are always easier with two big brothers by your side.
Requested By chrisevansdaughter: [...] could it be possible for you to do a halstead! Sibling reader where she has seizures, because of previous problems with low blood sugar and she had one whilst they are at home after not feeling the best, but she has to take a trip to lex because they don’t let up but she hates the hospital so it’s just fluff and comfort from a personal experience.
A/N: Thank you so much to @elius-learns-to-write for convincing me this wasn't total garbage. Sorry, it's shorter than usual, I am having a confidence crisis, but I'm working on it! I hope my research on this subject made this more readable.
-
The first thing that registers is the sharp throb of a headache that radiates throughout your forehead, intense biting stabs that make you wince even in the haze of your semi-consciousness.
The second thing you notice is the heaviness in your limbs, your eyes feel sensitive to the light and your absolute reluctance to move is the giveaway that you hadn’t fallen asleep on the couch in a natural or peaceful way.
Soon the memory of your intense nausea and shaking came back to you. There are vague memories of you trying to make it to the couch but not quite managing it - slumping into the arms of your brother, Jay, who luckily happened to be heading to the kitchen.
Your blood sugar must have been in the tank, causing you to pass out. You started seizing soon after, leaving Jay to holler out to Will who was in his bedroom to bring the emergency kit that he kept for when you stayed over.
The third thing that comes to you is that the ‘pillow’ beneath your head was not a pillow at all, but rather the muscular cushion of someone’s leg.
There's a hushed murmur of conversation that you can't quite concentrate on when a clearer voice reaches you, “Come back to us, kiddo, open those eyes.”
A gentle hand cards through your hair, brushing stray strands away from the clamminess on your forehead - it sparks a flurry of warm memories of being cared for, of being protected, from childhood right to the very present.
The owner of the voice was simultaneously irritating for asking that you wake up, but also soothing upon registering it to be the voice of your brother Will.
“Mngh, no. Hurts.” You mumble, turning yourself to face the back of the sofa, trying to somehow make Will’s leg comfier to rest your head on.
Your brother chuckles, squeezing your shoulder, “I know, I know it does, but I need to make sure the glucagon is doing its job.” Ah, yes, the magic of glucagon, the thing in charge of keeping your blood sugar in check, especially after a seizure.
“You finished napping yet?” Another voice comes from the direction of the kitchen, and you huff, playfully punching Will in the knee.
Will sulks as he pays for Jay’s teasing remark, “Hey! What was that for? I’m not the one accusing you of napping.”
You groan as you try and sit up, squeezing your eyes shut as the headache zings behind your eyes. “Mh, you’re closer, otherwise he’d get it.”
“He deserves it more anyway, he’s the one that stabbed you.” The voice is closer to you, on the couch, by your other side. Jay makes yet another joke as he tries to keep the mood light, wrapping an arm around you to steady you in your newly upright position.
“How are we doing, sweetheart?” He asks softly, being more sincere now that he was taking a look at you. You were groggy and in discomfort - seizures often took it out of you.
“Peachy.” You grunt, opening a weary eye to see Jay offering you a sandwich and a bottle of water. Something with carbs was always advised after a seizure, and Jay was usually the one to take care of that department, he always made the best sandwiches. ‘Thanks, Jay.” You murmur, sitting still as you slowly snack on your recovery food taking sips in between.
Jay's warm palm moving in small circles on your back is a safety blanket for you, feeling the tension between your shoulders and at the base of your neck begin to melt away.
You answer Will’s questions as you let him take the new readings with a finger-prick test, the method he swore by due to the delay in a glucose monitor reading.
Jay had taken that time to focus on looking out the window, moving his view away from the needle.
Will does what he needs to do with the lancet, pricking you for a sample of blood.
Like a well-practised dance, Will takes the test strip with your blood and inserts it into the meter, waiting for it to provide a reading, whilst you hold a small piece of gauze to the prick on your finger.
Will sighs, humming in concern.
“These levels aren’t what I’d like, Y/N, if it gets worse or you start to feel like you’re gonna seize again, we’re going to Med.”
Jay turns back to you at those words, a grimace on his face, knowing that your reaction to Will’s decision would be emphatically in opposition.
“Will, seriously? No way, I hate that place, I’ll be fine!” You try and stand up to prove your point, only to feel the world swim and your legs fail to cooperate.
“Woah, hey.” Jay is quick off the mark, hooking his arm around you to bring you back down to the couch.
You glance at Will who’s got his hands out to steady you too, you involuntarily scowl at his “Told you so.” expression.
“A little backup would be nice.” Will addresses Jay, scratching at his head as he wonders whether he should just take you to Med now, not missing the way you try to act like you’re not moments away from passing out again.
“Don’t look at me, you’re the doctor and the bad cop in this situation, I get to be the good cop when it comes to medical emergencies.” Jay seems rather smug and it makes you laugh half-heartedly despite your exhaustion and shakiness, both you and he shared a deep disdain for Will’s place of work.
You’re trying to get up again, not really sure where you want to go or what you want to do. A fog of confusion shimmers in your mind, and before you know it Will is grasping your shoulders, looking at Jay.
“Lay her down on the floor.” Will commands, and Jay wastes not a second in obeying. He shifts to support your head and gently encourages you to lie down on the floor, giving you one of those stern yet loving looks as you try and resist. He’s watching worriedly as your eyes wander erratically, knowing you’re trying to fight what’s coming.
“It’s alright, Y/N, just-” Jay’s about to encourage you to let it happen, to let them take care of you when your whole body goes limp. Jay holds you steady, turning you on your side as you begin to convulse again.
Will moves back to his kit, preparing a secondary dose of glucagon, there’s little Jay can do but stop you from hurting yourself as you ride it out.
Your brothers share a look as Will injects you in your upper arm, there’s an unspoken agreement that there is no choice but to take you to Med now, they needed to get this under control in a secure environment with additional solutions available - even if that meant you’d be in a sour mood later, they would take it.
-
The second you consciously smell the air after waking up you let out a disgruntled groan, you knew exactly where you were - and it wasn’t Will's apartment anymore.
You were indeed at Chicago Med, and more specifically in the diabetic clinic on the third floor - a space you were unfortunately all too familiar with.
“Hey kiddo, you with us?” A gentle voice pulls you to open your eyes properly, scanning the room briefly your gaze settles on Jay sitting on the chair beside your bed, smiling at the sight of you finally awake.
He had his detective badge around his neck.
Observant as he was trained to be, he clocks the question on your lips, and speaks before you can ask, “Visting hours were over a few hours ago, so was shift change - so I may or may not have implied it was a police matter of importance that I was here with you.”
You laugh groggily, but then it falters into a frown, softly chastising your brother. “Jay, I shouldn’t get special treatment.”
Jay chuckles too, you were always conscious of not using his job nor Will’s to get any kind of tenuous form of preferential care. Your self-awareness was something he admired about you.
“I know, I’m sorry, sweetheart…” Jay pauses, scratching at the back of his head. “But uh, Will got called in downstairs, and I couldn’t sit at home alone knowing you were up here alone too… You worried me today, Y/N.” There’s a somberness in Jay’s eyes, he didn’t do well with not being able to have control over a situation, and not being able to help fully was one of his biggest struggles.
Your eyes soften, carefully reaching out a hand to hold Jay’s. “Big brother, I’m alright, they’re really great at what they do here, I’m sure they’re gonna figure out how to keep me on a safer track with all this. I’m feeling better, I promise.”
Jay shakes his head with a smile, despite your disdain for the hospital you had always done better than him. “When did you get so wise?” He teases, squeezing your hand gently.
“I’ve always been wise, thank you very much.” You snipe jokingly, taking mock offence to the idea that you hadn’t always been of sound logic and optimism.
“Yes you have, you definitely get that from me though, not this guy.” Will’s voice catches your attention, he was now in scrubs and had you giggling a little more as he poked fun at Jay.
Your other brother studies you with his medical eyes and then his worried sibling ones, approaching the free side of your bed. He smoothes out the flyaway hairs atop your head, giving your shoulder a squeeze. “How are we doing, kiddo?”
A yawn escapes you, still holding Jay’s hand as you shrug, reaching for Will’s hand too, “Much better. I’m sorry I caused such a fuss. Do they know what’s going on?”
“Nothing to be sorry for, Y/N.” Will reassures, “They think you might have overdone it this week with the extra shifts you took on after school, your body couldn’t keep up.”
You sigh with an understanding nod, it didn’t surprise you that was the cause of your problems, “I thought I was doing a good job of keeping up, guess not.”
Will gives you a reassuring smile, “Hey, it’s alright, sometimes we can’t always get it right. You know you can always ask me or Jay to help you keep track or reassess, it’s not a bother.”
“Never a bother. It’s not even a question.” Jay chimes in, squeezing your hand gently.
Listening to their reassurance made you feel more relaxed for the first time in a few days, knowing that it was okay to take it easy and rely on your brothers a little more than you had been lately. “Thanks, guys. I guess you are pretty good brothers after all, even if you did stab me with needles and drag me here.”
The two of them laugh at your slight pout, Will looks at you with that smug face, “Sweetheart, sorry to say but we’d do it again and again if it meant getting you better.”
“And I carried you, actually, there was no dragging.” Jay corrects, feeling smug.
You huff, but you’re smiling too, slapping at both of their arms playfully, “Figures.”
