middle of the night making life choices (writing fanfic for a series I haven't thought about in years)
Summary:
Jason Walker, one-time mysterious missing kid and now Vista’s resident weird loner kid, doesn’t really hold out hope anymore for a miraculous return to Lyrian. Not until a familiar face appears in his life, years after he stopped believing. Or: time runs oddly between Lyrian and Earth, and Jason’s Ferrin-sponsored vacation back to Colorado lasts longer for him than it does on the other side.

Beginner's Guide to Batman (and Batman-related) Media
(based on my knowledge and the things I enjoy)
Live action Batman movies are very hit or miss. Most of them are fairly middling, but the Dark Knight Trilogy is generally pretty bad. Poor Bruce characterization, white-washing, inaccurate representations of Gotham, etc. I have several thousand words written on that trilogy, and many more on live action movies in general (all of which are accessible thru my pinned post). The Batman (2022) is pretty widely regarded as being good and accurate. It has a much more emo depiction of Bruce. A major pet peeve of mine is that I, personally, don't think it's a very good Riddler, but everything else is good.
As for shows, those are generally less accurate but more enjoyable. Gotham is not technically canon I don't think but it has better aesthetics, canon accuracy, and character design than every live action movie imo. It starts with Bruce seeing his parents' murder and goes up until he first decides to become Batman. Gotham Knights is a much more AU-style show, detailing the death of Bruce and how his adopted son (invented for the show) handles it. It also has Stephanie, Harper and Cullen Row, and Duela Dent, plus great queer rep. Heavily recommended for people who want to know more about general character personalities or who enjoy AUs. Titans has Dick, Jason, and Tim, and while I personally don't think that they did well with the characterization of the other Titans, the Robins are well-done. If you want a good idea of Dick right after he became Nightwing, you want to see Jason as Robin, or you like Tim pre-Robin, this is the show for you.
As for animated shows, the usually widely loved ones are Justice League, Justice League Unlimited, and Batman: The Animated Series. B:TAS is largely accurate to the comics at that time, though it plays a little fast and loose with the Robins (goes straight from Dick to Tim). Plus, it's the first appearance of Harley Quinn! Additionally, I enjoy The Batman (2005), though it plays with the timeline a little and targets a younger audience. Batman Beyond is amazing if you want to get into the future of Batman/Terry McGinnis universe. The accompanying movie, Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker covers Tim becoming Joker Jr.
Speaking of animated movies, there are a Lot. Standouts include the Batman Unlimited movies, which are some of the only ones to include Tim. They're very futuristic, so if you enjoy AUs or the science side of Batman, these are the ones. There are a lot of AU style ones, like Gotham by Gaslight (which I personally really love but don't think is anything particularly special outside of being interesting for characters), The Doom That Came to Gotham, and Batman Ninja. Batman Ninja isn't one of my favorites, but it is very good and has general good characterization. If you want to know more about how Barbara became Oracle but you don't want to read one of the most sexist comics ever, watching the Batman: The Killing Joke movie is a good way to do it. It frames the movie from Barbara's perspective and focuses on her story. If you want to know more about Damian, Son of Batman and Batman vs Robin are good. They detail him becoming Robin and his brush with the Court of Owls. Batman: Under the Red Hood is absolutely necessary viewing for anyone who likes Jason, as it details him coming back to life and becoming the Red Hood (along with having one of the all-time most depressing lines in-context ever).
When it comes to media that doesn't have Batman in it but is Batman-affiliated, Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of Harley Quinn is a really good post-Joker pre-Ivy look at Harley, and it has Helena Bertinelli (Huntress), Dinah Lance (Black Canary), Detective Renee Montoya, and an AU-ized Cassandra Cain. The show Young Justice, particularly the first season, is a really good look at Robin!Dick in non-Bat teams, as is the animated Teen Titans. Both take slightly different routes when it comes to his personality, but both are equally good (especially if most of what you know about Robin!Dick is "holy dental hygiene, Batman!" or his vague backstory). They also both provide introductions into other team families, particularly Young Justice, so if you've just gotten into DC via Batman and want to know more about other characters, YJ is the way to go.
My personal idea of best piece of media for any character:
Bruce Wayne
Pre-Batman - Gotham
Batman: The Animated Series
Alfred Pennyworth
Batman: The Animated Series
Barbara Gordon
Batman: The Animated Series and The Killing Joke
Kate Kane
Batman: Bad Blood
Dick Grayson
As Robin - Young Justice
As Nightwing - the Son of Batman/Batman vs Robin/Batman: Bad Blood trilogy
Jason Todd
As Robin - Titans
As the Red Hood - Batman: Under the Red Hood
Tim Drake
As Robin - Batman: The Animated Series
As Red Robin - Batman Unlimited: Monster Mayhem/Batman Unlimited: Animal Instincts
Stephanie Brown
Gotham Knights
Damian Wayne
Son of Batman/Batman vs Robin
Feel free to send an ask about a specific movie or show (or if you want a detailed list of everything a specific character has ever appeared in!) - I'm currently watching every Batman movie in existence and writing reviews literally so I can provide better recommendations to people (on part 41 rn). I will gladly provide more details about any movie or show. Also if you want to know more about specific media or what media a specific character has appeared in that is Bat-affiliated but is not a Bat, I probably have info! Anyone who's ever been a Titan, most Supers, most of the JLA, etc.
I can do another of these for comic recommendations if anyone wants bc I Do have opinions, I've just had some folks ask questions about specifically non-comic media recently!

Good morning! Good whatever-time-this-post-finds-you!
Tumblr media
My phone updated. Thanks, I hate it. Anyway, I had a bio pinned, but I took it down because I wanted my 6,000 years meta to be pinned. I’m currently on the side of procrastination — I should be working on my GO fiction, someone shout at me to write — so here is a little bit more in depth bio about the ghost behind this tumblr.
🥂🪽🐝
Real Name: Sarah.
Nickname(s): There’s a list. Caps, Ghost, Khas, Khasper, Khasper the Spicy Ghost, Pippin, Haands, Crowley, Ginger and Tapeworm.
Nickname Origin(s): Buckle up. Caps is an age old nickname that was given to me because I wear hats all the time. Ghost began with a chat group I used to be in eons ago. The different variants of Khasper were given to me at my very first job, but we collectively agreed to change things up a bit, and Khasper the Spicy Ghost was born. Pippin was given to me when the Lord of the Rings trilogy was first released. Haands was given to me by former coworkers. Their reasoning behind that is I’ve got big hands. Crowley was given to me by my work bestie, and Ginger was given to me by the rest of my coworkers for my only slightly red hair. Or maybe it’s for my fiery personality. Tapeworm is something my uncle calls me presumably because I’m always hungry, but isn’t that the nature of an actual hobbit?
Preferred Name(s): Ghost, Khasper, Crowley, Ginger or Pippin.
Ao3: Beyond_Ineffable.
Social Media(s): I have Facebook and TikTok. My TikTok is actuallyahobbit89 if anyone is curious. I’m hardly on it though. I’ll pop in to post a video and then disappear like a ghost.
State: Born in raised in Floriduha. It’s a state of chaos.
Birthdate: July 25.
Pet(s): I’ve got two dogs. Mycroft is a probably Dutch shepherd Australian cattle dog mix. I’ve never had him DNA tested, but his mother is an Australian cattle dog. Patch is a portly pitbull mix.
Tumblr media
Hobbies: Writing, reading, listening to music and true crime podcasts and stand up paddle boarding.
Personality: Here’s the best way I can describe this. I’m a permanently exhausted pigeon who functions on caffeine, anxiety and not enough sleep. I’m shy and socially awkward, but once I’m comfortable with someone and know that I can completely be myself around them, the anxiety disappears.
Favorite Holiday(s): Big spooky fan, me.
Favorite Drink(s): Coffee, Ice sparkling water + caffeine, London fog tea and cranberry juice.
Favorite Food(s): Sushi, tacos, salmon, crepes, lasagna, sweet potatoes and chicken teriyaki.
Favorite Dessert(s): Pumpkin pie.
Favorite Color(s): Turquoise, but any shade of blue, really. It’s pretty.
Favorite Quote(s): “She walks in starlight in another world.” “The world is not in your books and maps. It’s out there.” “Why do we fall, sir? So that we can learn to pick ourselves up.” “A witch ought never to be frightened in the darkest forest because she should be sure that the most terrifying thing in the forest was her.” “I know of witches who whistle at different pitches, calling things that don’t have names.”
Favorite Book(s): The Inheritance Collection and Neverwhere, which I still need to finish reading.
Favorite TV Show(s): Good Omens, Sherlock, Lucifer, The Exorcist and Hannibal.
Favorite Movie(s): Bad Samaritan, The Hobbit trilogy, The Lord of the Rings trilogy and the Legend of Sleepy Hollow.
Favorite Character(s): Crowley, Aziraphale, Furfur, Hastur, Pippin, Bilbo Baggins, Sherlock, John Watson, Father Marcus and Will Graham.
Favorite Actor(s): David Tennant, Michael Sheen, Martin Freeman, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins, Jason Statham, Keanu Reeves and Mads Mikkelsen. It’s an accent thing and a hair thing.
Favorite Song(s): There’s too many. I’ll just drop this here. Whiplash Radio.
Favorite Music Genre(s): Mostly everything under the sun.
Favorite Podcast(s): Small Town Murder.
Have You Ever Met A Celebrity: Yes. Jimmie Johnson, a NASCAR driver, visited the very first job I had. He brought his daughter. Story time! My former coworkers were being a bit too extra around him — personal space, what personal space? — and he didn’t like it. I had not yet had a chance to speak to him, and I was told not to because he’s rude. I didn’t believe that, so later, I saw Jimmie was standing at the fence with his daughter. I walked over, said hello and asked him if his daughter would like to pet the dog. He said yes, so I moved the dog closer so she could pet him through the fence. She did, he thanked me, and that was our interaction. He was very pleasant.
Have You Ever Been To A Concert: I have not, unfortunately.
Do You Collect Anything: Yes. Coffee cups, gnomes and pocket knives. That’s a weird combination.
Do You Have Any Idols: Yes! Neil Gaiman. He’s a legend and someone I admire, especially when the writer’s block is slaying me.
Is There A Real Life Friend You Can Completely Be Yourself With: Yes! I made a tumblr post about him! We’ve known each other a long time.
What Are Your Interests: All things spooky. Ghosts. Graveyards. Stars. Galaxies. Planets. Everything about the solar system. True crime. History. Metaphysical things.
Where Would You Love To Travel To: Ireland. New Zealand. Scotland.
Is There A Random Fact About Yourself That You’d Like To Share: I like flamingos.
No pressure tags: @phoen1xr0se @ineffabildaddy @peregrintook @sad-chaos-goblin @spot-o-bodysnatchin @apocalypticginger-blog @crowleyscleaninglady @missdeliadilisblog @ritz-writes @ineffablemoist @turquoisedata @azirapalalalala @peachworthy @pretendygood @belladonna413 @jackinistafflower @aziraphalalala @scarecrowcloud @tragic-cosmic-magic @musingsofmaisie
It’s open to everyone, but here is an apology dance in case I missed anyone! 💚

There are a lot of questions but I'm excited to ask you!!! 3, 4, 12, 13 and 19 from the last ask game ✨
3. How do you feel about your current WIP
Oh my goodness. I am having so so much fun with The Bird and The Hood. This is probably the most fun I've had writing in quite some time and I have just loved exploring and expanding and tweaking this little idea I started with in the beginning and forming a whole story around it. Getting my thoughts on to actual paper in sentences comes and goes (mostly limited just by my working schedule and general exhaustion) but I'm always amazed that my love for this story has never once wavered. It just hasn't. And I cannot say that for some of the other original fictions I've written, so I think that just speaks to how close this story is to my heart!
4. A story idea you haven't written yet
Ooooo fun question! Okay, I would say I've had about three ideas bouncing around in my head. 1st: A Jaytim story (I just can't get enough of this couple apparently) of Jason and Tim in their late 30s/40s in a more Batman Beyond (esq) animated universe. It wouldn't follow the show plot line, but I just love the cyberpunk style world and I think it would be fun exploring two jaded vigilante has-beens (lol not even old and still being upstaged by some youngsters in their teens) being general grumps and coming together in the end. 2nd: A Damijon friends to lovers angsty story dealing with time travel shenanigans and fixing a world gone horribly wrong (together of course). And 3rd: Terry McGinnis! No thoughts just Terry. I adore his character and he would be so fun to write about (once again really just loving that cyberpunk blade runner aesthetic).
12. A trope you're really into right now
God I just loveeee lovers/friends/soulmates to enemies. I love it. It has so much angsty potential and I'm really working hard to find maybe a fanfic idea that I could incorporate it into. It's the main trope of an original fiction trilogy that I've written (Book 1 done, 2 and 3 still in the works) but I could go on and on about how much I just enjoy writing/reading it. Maybe one day.
13. A fandom you're thinking about writing for
Hmmm. Hard to say! There's so much variety in DC so that's why I've felt drawn to it. But if I couldn't choose DC, while I love so many universes (Kyoshi, Baldurs Gate, ATLA etc) I think the one I could see myself dipping my toe into would be Arcane or some other League of Legends world. If I found a Champion I really connected to, I'd probably have some ideas! But for right now I am just very happy to stick to DC
19. The most interesting topic you've researched for a fic
Okay, now I would never go so far to say as this was "interesting" because reading about it was probably as pleasurable as chewing on stale toast. BUT, I did go into a deeeeep dive into money laundering and embezzlement and the inner-workings and the How-tos. And... I don't know. I'm probably on some list somewhere. Lol. Thank goodness for VPNs.
Thank you THANK YOU for asking! Definitely feel welcome to ask follow up questions if you have any! I had so much fun answering these. Take care!

Have a (late) merry Christmas to you as well friend! :D
1: which movie is their favorite in the kung fu panda trilogy? & what’s their favorite moment?
2: speaking of kung fu panda, are they excited for the fourth one? Or thinks the trilogy is ok; no need for an another one?
3: fun fact: Chris was based off of the kid in the movie Superman returns (or was it vice versa don’t remember) & the kid can play piano; both the real & keyboard. So I have a Headcanon that Chris can play piano.
4: what kind of slapstick does the duo “perform?” Like slamming into walls, slipping on something slippery, landing crotch first on something, etc…
5: what’s the saddest video game they played?
6: I think I asked this already but what is something the duo does traditionally with their families?
I would like to say a late merry Christmas & a happy new year to you my friend! I’m thankful for you bringing the duo to life :D
Thanks so much @gothicghost2000 fir your kind words and encouragement. It’s truly appreciated
1) Oh beyond any sort of doubt, the second one reigns supreme as the best of the entire trilogy fir the two. That they can agree on for certain. Now where they differ are their favorite moments of said trilogy. For Chris can’t stop thinking about the battle against Kai in the Spirit Realm while Jake vets absolutely starstruck with Tai Lung’s prison breakout.
2) The Duo are utterly mixed by the fourth film as while the fact Tai Lung is returning and teaming up with an interesting new villain certainly has their attention, they do think that the original trilogy worked out perfectly as is. The fourth one has a high bar in quality to clear if it ought to justify its inclusion.
3) Oh yes, I remember Jason White and the influence he had when Chris was being created. So I can see Chris at first learning how to play piano during the earlier years of staying on Earth. It’d be around the time he turns 9 when he transitions more to playing Bass. But even nowadays he can still play piano despite not being his main instrument.
4) Slamming into walls while either running real fast or likely flying straight into them due to failing to look ahead, getting bonked on the head via failing to look up for incoming objects in the air, sometimes getting slapped in the face by unappreciative people they rescue, very uncomfortable leg splitting when they hold two separating large building to prevent them from falling apart (SpiderMan Homecoming style), and yes… ‘gentle’ landings when they sometimes fail in trying to proper look down below; all of that are very constant in the daily superhero life of these two despite their best efforts
5) It’s a toss up between Mother/Earthbound 3 and Omori as the gut wrenching takes both games have leave Chris and Jake rushing for their tissue boxes by the time they’re done. Though Mother 3 might slightly edge out as the sadness there has a more clever disguise with its goofy Nintendo charm while Omori’s more psychological thriller/horror approach at first spooks the Duo and then some before it’s breaks their hearts
Honorable mention though goes to FNAF 4, especially when they see the mini games.
6) Well it doesn’t hurt to give new answers to this one
Chris: I can see Conner and him drop by the Metropolis Grand Mall together, checking out all sorts of the various stores inside, browsing around anything that catches their eyes or at least if said has something they’ve been thinking about in the back of the minds. Though of course if Conner starts getting flirty with some girls at the food court, it’s quite easy for Chris to roll his eyes and drag Conner away by his ear, just like how Mom Lois does that
Jake: Every now and then, the entire family would pay a visit to the new permanent residence of Haly’s Circus, settled in Bludhaven’s Mealtide Park when it’s not on a cross-country/worldwide tour thanks to Dick’s ownership of it. Jake especially liked having small talks with some of the performers and staff who had been there when his father was little and performing along his own parents, curious fir all sorts of stories from that time. Also, Mar’i and him flat out love Zitka the elephant and she loves them right back, allowing to settle on her back and play around her trunk.

The Hunger Games Return: A Deep Dive into “The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes”
Tumblr media
Hey there, movie enthusiasts! Settle in because on November 17, 2023, “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes” graced the screens, treating fans to a captivating journey into the dark and enthralling world of Panem. Under the skillful direction of Francis Lawrence and based on Suzanne Collins’ prequel novel, the film promised to unveil the mysteries of the Hunger Games’ origins, unfolding a tale set 64 years before Katniss Everdeen’s iconic arrival to the arena.
A Glimpse into Panem’s Past: Coriolanus Snow’s Tale Unfolds
Now, let’s dive into Panem’s past with the main man himself, young Coriolanus Snow, played by Tom Blyth. He’s navigating the tricky terrain of the 10th Annual Hunger Games, once a part of the fallen Snow family. Now, he’s unexpectedly thrown into the role of mentor for Lucy Gray Baird, played by Rachel Zegler, a tribute from the struggling District 12. The film explores Snow’s moral struggles, tangled relationships, and his surprising journey from privilege to the edge of power.
Star-Studded Ensemble: A Stellar Cast Graces the Screen
And can we talk about the cast? A bunch of stars that had us counting down the days! Viola Davis, Peter Dinklage, and Jason Schwartzman brought their A-game. Davis rocked as Dr. Volumnia Gaul, the mastermind Gamemaker with a seriously sinister imagination. Dinklage was the brains behind the Hunger Games as Casca Highbottom, and Schwartzman added humor and charisma as Lucretius “Lucky” Flickerman, a distant relative of the original trilogy’s charming host.
Beyond Survival: Privilege, Exploitation, and Power Unveiled
Now, “The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes” wasn’t your typical survival thriller. It went beyond the previous Hunger Games entries, digging into deeper topics — privilege, exploitation, and power. All of this unfolds in a condemned amphitheater where the lives of tributes hang in the balance. Coriolanus’ moral tug-of-war and his intricate bond with Lucy Gray Baird promised a storyline packed with unexpected twists, giving us a fresh take on Capitol society.
With a mix of new faces and familiar elements from the Hunger Games universe, the film hit the sweet spot. This movie works as a great expansion of the world created by Suzanne Collins. As we got lost in the roots of Panem’s most infamous tradition, “The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes” is set to make a lasting mark on the Hunger Games legacy. It was a thrilling and thought-provoking joyride, inviting us to revisit the dystopian universe that first captured our hearts and witness the rise of a young Coriolanus Snow. Fingers crossed the odds stay forever in our favor!

Gonna break the rule and go off anon 😉
What is your ranking for your favourite Chris Evans movies/TV shows????
Tumblr media
Niamh! do you know how hard this is.
Top ten-
Snowpiercer- Really is anyone surprised? I loved this film for how dirty, tragic, and beautiful it was, Curtis is my husband forever and ever. I love him.
Captain America Trilogy- Loved them all, especially The Winter Soldier. I have watched them so many times.
Puncture- God this movie was so tragic and Mike was such a mess but I still really enjoyed this movie and appreciated the issues this film covered.
Avengers Trilogy- comfort series for sure. I will never forget seeing Endgame in theaters, that scene still makes my heart race.
Defending Jacob- Loved Andy! So so much. Probably too much. It's not higher on the list because it's a tv show and tv shows are hard for me to watch cause it felt like such a long movie.
Gifted- Beautiful story and it always makes me tear up
Playing It Cool- This movie was messy but I loved it because of that. Even the storytelling was a mess.
Before We Go- Honestly simple and not exciting but it had some beautiful scenes in it and I was so proud of the work he did for this.
Knives Out- Ransom really was just a piece of the artwork of this film. Top Tier, I am so glad I got to see it in theaters.
Ghosted- Honestly, I thought this one was good, even for all the hate it got. Cole was a disaster and unreasonable at times, over dramatic, but I loved it. Also, I think he had better chemistry with Ana than some of his other female co-stars over the years.
Push- One of those films I saw right around the time it came out and I just liked it. If they just left out his love interest, it would have scored higher.
Losers- Just a fun movie! He should do more comedy.
The Red Sea Diving Resort- This film has so many mixed reviews but I did enjoy it beyond Chris being fucking beautiful in it.
The Gray Man- Fucking Lloyd man... I just loved that mustached prick more than I should have.
What's Your Number? This was a cute one and I absolutely adored him working with Anna. I wish they did more films together.
Fantastic Four 1 and 2- Johnny was a cutie and I had a little crush on him back in the day.
Streetkings- I have only seen this movie a couple times but always enjoyed the drama.
Sunshine- What a interesting Sci Fi. Only watched it once or twice, mostly in bits and pieces, and I find myself getting really frustrated every single time that no one just listened to James.
Lightyear- It was cute. It won't be one I watch regularly though, but cute.
Loss Of A Tear Drop Diamond- I wanted to throttle all of them, but I did love Jimmy in those suspenders and Chris trying his hardest at that accent.
The Nanny Diaries- Cute, but not really my kind of movie.
Cellular- HAHAHA I did love this back in the day, BUT rewatching it I forget that my standards for films has gotten higher and I do cringe. Especially with Jessica popping in, I just don't like her or Jason Statham all that much. William H Macy though... loved him. Lol.
TMNT- I loved this for him, but it wasn't MY TURTLES from the 80's and 90's, so yeah I was judgy.
Fierce People- everyone was just annoying in this movie. I kinda liked it, I kinda didn't. Depends on the day.
The Perfect Score- probably if I had watched this when it came out, I would have loved it. I only recently watched it a few years ago and had a very "just wait till you all start actual adulthood" frame of mind. Lol.
Not Another Teen Movie- My first ever introduction to Chris and I absolutely hated Jake although I admit I still laugh at his insulting jokes.
The Ice Man- So I will give Chris credit in his acting in this, I wouldn't have realized it was him except I mainly watched it to see his work in this. I can't say it was a great film, for me it felt slow. But I can see where others would like it for the true crime aspect of it.
Scott Pilgrim- His part was small but funny. I will never get over the eyebrows. Beyond that part, I didn't have an interest in the rest of the film.
Never Seen -
The Newcomer- no real interest.
London- Y'all really don't know the absolute dislike I have for Jessica Biel. She is the main reason I don't watch this film. Syd also sounds like an absolute prick and I would probably hate him with a passion. I know, I'm sure I am missing out on some great scenes, but... I just don't think I could listen to Jessica's character and Syd whine and carry on the whole movie.
The Battle for Terra- No real interest.
Or the few shows he was in as a kid.
So, how do we compare? I know you didn't ask for reasons, but I am in a writing slump and wanted to give something.

I am a BATMANIAC I love BATMAN this sucks because Batman is DUMB AS HELL when he should not be in fact he should be smart as a whip but then if he’s smart as a whip he wouldn’t do all the really viscerally satisfying fan service stuff!!
I have a fantasy of my ideal Batman who works really hard to play the role. He’s been in the game for years but stayed close enough to the ground figuratively speaking that almost nobody outside of Gotham thinks he’s real. He helped found the JLA but left after the first year of that organization and isn’t acknowledged in any of their records. Most of his rouges gallery are actually on okay terms with him. He’s got a middlingly sized bat-family where most everyone actually likes him.
He’s subtle. He spends most of his time doing detective stuff. 6/7ths of his time is spent on terrestrial, normal human stuff like organized crime and working to negate small scale stuff like murder and blackmail. He has to do a lot of the work himself in the rain with binoculars and directed microphones because there aren’t cameras through most of Gotham. He has a grapnel gun and reactive cape like in the Arkham games and the dark knight trilogy, but he also keeps his old fashioned manual grapple hook to swing from gargoyles across the rooftops. His Batmobile and batwing (Bat-plane?) and bat-subway rocket (like in Knightfall) and any other vehicles are made to be as quiet as possible. This doesn’t mean they’re silent, or even close to silent depending on the vehicle, but they’re as low profile as they can be.
He takes the time and effort to preserve his myth and do his research so he really is scary when it counts. Sure “the Bat-Man” has been spotted on a couple of high profile occasions, but that was years ago. Besides, do you really believe the people who said they saw it? So when a mobster or whatever gets snatched out of an alley, it COULD have been Batman. Or it could’ve been something else. Gotham is an old, old, city build on haunted, cursed land with foundations sinking into older, more evil foundations sinking into…
Within the his circle though, there’s little pretense. The people who know that Bruce Wayne is Batman FOR SURE are:
Alfred Pennyworth, Dick Grayson (Nightwing), Jason Todd (Ressurected Red Hood), Tim Drake (Red Robin is such a dumb fucking name and it doesn’t make sense for the maximum efficiency world of the bat-family because it overlaps with Red Hood and Robin. I think of him as “Cardinal,” which I think is appropriate as a bird that kinda looks like a robin but is way more red), Damian Wayne (Robin), Cassandra Cain (Batgirl), Barbra Gordon (Oracle). Bane (of course), and bane’s inner circle of Bird, Zombie, and Trogg. Last, the Founding members of the JLA, so at least Superman, Wonder Woman, and the Flash. I haven’t settled on the other members, but it’d be 7 counting Batman. Catwoman might be on the list idk how I wanna play it. Batwoman almost certainly is, but I’m not familiar enough with her to make that call yet. At the very least she’d know quickly in the story. Idk if she’d let her lesbionic partner Renee Montoya/ Question in on it either, as I also don’t really know shit about her beyond some appearances in a supporting role as a detective.
The Riddler basically knows but is kept in check in sort of the same way he was at the end of Hush (which probably happened in some capacity in this fantasy continuity). Besides, he, and many of his fellow villains have less destructive interests these days (though they are definitely still dangerous and regularly spend time at the asylum. But the asylum has more actual asylum stuff than ever and has made progress to some extent with many of the regular patients. There’s still some mad science and unethical treatment from time to time though :]). Riddler has a lot of online stuff going on, and while he’ll still hijack the city from time to time it’s usually an effort to “raise the collective intelligence” of its citizens through high stakes games rather than just “solve my riddles so I don’t blow up a hospital for ransom Batman!!!”
Basil Carlo/ Clayface is mostly aligned with a Gotham theatre troupe now, and has earned minor local prestige for his performances and how he can take advantage of his powers to enhance them. He’ll still knock over a bank for cash or get roped into a collaborative scheme, but if anything that kinda endears him to many of the performers and techs.
Pamela Isley / Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn are deep in lesbionics and bounce around a couple cities doing ecoterrorism and animal welfare stuff. Human endangerment brings in Batman and the asylum will keep them like the rest of the gallery because that’s the only place with the specialized facilities. But they’re also generally looked upon fondly.
Dr. Victor Fries/ Mr. Freeze is doing better than ever. He actually managed to save Nora Fries but the process makes her need to stay sub-zero like him. She’s TOTALLY into it (and now bald like him). They’re now a husband and wife team doing bleeding edge research and occasional mad science with everything to do with the concept of “cold.” The have a private lab that’s partially funded by Wayne enterprises but the Fries’ never let Wayne have much influence over their work, as he frequently has moral objections and safety concerns. They do villainy but they’re also leading scientists who Batman alternately admires and values and opposes.
Waylon Jones/ Killer Croc doesn’t do much cannibalism these days. He bounces around crime families and on rare occasions subs in as a cook in mob controlled kitchens. He still enjoys villain team-up schemes, but values comfort and simple pleasures in his day to day. Croc does whatever he wants. One day he’s doing meat prep for Bane’s cookout in Gotham’s Santa Priscan enclave, the next he’s standing in as muscle for one of Penguin’s arms deals, the next he’s playing cards in Black Mask’s strip club. People know of Croc, and the people who actually spend time with him generally like him. When he’s busted he spends time in Arkham reading cookbooks abd other assorted literature, and paints. He’ll still eat a motherfucker raw though.
Batman is definitely a bat-dad now, if a little brooding and distant. He’s in just the last few years of his already ridiculously long lasting prime, and his children are already surpassing him in specific ways, like Jason being stronger and meaner and more organized (somehow lol), Dick being more agile and overall physically effective with a subtle knack for detective work, Tim and Barbra being smarter and more useful with technology by more and more as the months pass, Cassandra and Damian’s strength coming in to match their long superior fighting technique, etc. etc.Bruce is only staying ahead by being the most well rounded and experienced. Alfred is right on the cusp of retirement. Julia Pennyworth is somewhere and occasionally in touch, but sure as hell isn’t stepping in to replace her dad as “home base.”
His family all take the mission seriously (to one degree or another). Certainly more seriously than nearly anyone else in the broader JLA and “superhero community.” They all eventually, for their own reasons if not through direct training, took it to heart that their only way to stay ahead in their world is to be prepared and fight dirty. They all have their strong suits but can also preform well in all of the “bat-family” skills of fighting, stealth, and detective work. This is satisfying on its own, but I’ll admit a lot of it is hoping for a “booyah” moment when one of Batman’s kids just SMOKES some chump JLA member at whatever objective.
To wrap up (as I really ought to Jesus) the fan service stuff I was whining about at the start of the post is basically me moaning that if they really were smart and focused on efficiency and subtle work, the bat family would never all be in one place for a cool “yeah there are like 12 of us” moment outside of the Batcave or a dedicated out of costume vacation. Most of them aren’t even in Gotham except for rare visits home! Whatever. Whatever. I’ll make it happen. I’ll make the Batman who can be serious and also make silly animated series one liners and even dry jokes if my dreams someday. With a Joker who’s actually funny!! I love funny joker who does audacious schemes for money and announces them ahead of time to invite people to stop him!! I don’t care about scary joker anymore I know he was always supposed to be subtly serious and scary but I don’t care anymore I was to laugh with him!!!

Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you've written, then pass on to at least five other writers. Let’s spread the self-love 💗
5. Ritual Children (Fatal Frame 2) Fatal Frame 2 was my first exposure to the series and I absolutely fell in love with it. I loved the mixture of tragedy and horror and all the world-building of this village and its rituals. This fic focused on the Kiryu twins (Akane and Azami) and follows from their birth to death. It's years old now but I'm still proud of my first real dip into the horror/tragedy genre. I debated between this and "Vita e Morte" as number 5, but I like this one a bit more since I got to experiment with horror and really flesh out the tragedy of the story.
4. The View from Here (The Greatest Showman) From the first time I saw The Greatest Showman in theaters, I loved it. It's a very tough call between this and West Side Story on which is my favorite movie musical. The music, the choreography, the story, and the celebration of dreamers really touched me. This fic focused on the relationship between Philip Carlyle and Anne Wheeler, going a little beyond the story in the musical. I put this at #4 because I really enjoyed converting the musical numbers into written dialogue. Plus I got to develop Anne and Philip's relationship beyond what we see in the movie.
3. Inside Eternity (Heroes) Heroes was one of the first fandoms I remember really getting into when the internet became commonly used for such things. I love superhero stories so this one about more ordinary people gaining powers was cool. This fic focused on Peter Petrelli and Gabriel "Sylar" Gray while they were trapped in Sylar's mindscape in season four. Even at the time, I saw that episode as fan-service (Pylar was a VERY popular ship in the fandom) so of course i took advantage. This is a unique one since I didn't really have a plan for where the story was going at first, but as people commented on the chapters I took their suggestions as inspiration. It was a really fun collaboration between me and my readers.
2. Someone (Mass Effect) I was a little late to learning about Mass Effect, only playing it once all three games were out. Now it's one of my favorite video game series. Who doesn't love a space adventure story that takes inspiration from so many other space adventures? This fic is focused on Kaidan Alenko and John Shepard (Paragade Earthborn War Hero) as their relationship develops over the trilogy. I'm ranking this so high because it's my go-to romance whenever I play. Kaidan is my favorite character and I love his relationship with Shepard. I also like it because I got to write a slow-burn that really developed their friends-to-lovers dynamic
Living with Ghosts (House of Ashes) Like most people, I got into the DPA because I enjoyed Until Dawn and wanted to see more from the developers. Little Hope is my favorite but House of Ashes captured my imagination with its well-written characters. This fic follows the aftermath of Jason being infected by the dead alien he inhales. This is my #1 because without even meaning to, I put a lot of myself and my own processing into it. It has personal, special meaning to me because of that.
So those are my top 5 favorite fics I've written. Sorry I don't know who to pass this on to, but if you are a content creator (writer, artist, etc) feel free to list your top five favorite pieces anyway. We are our own worst critics so it's important for us to acknowledge the things we're proud of.

Did you get your copy? I certainly got mine! Hope it arrives swiftly “That’s all I’m asking for.”

It’s important to support boutique labels such as VS that are keeping physical media alive and going above and beyond with their special features and archiving techniques. There is nothing out there close to this 4K restoration standard.
Grab a copy today!
😍😍😍😍😍😍
A brand new 4K restoration from the only surviving film material, a 35mm theatrical print! from Vinegar Syndrome
This is very cool and a long time coming, if a 4K Blu-ray doesn’t excite you, there’s an amazing collectible VHS too!
CANNIBAL! THE MUSICAL has always warmed my heart like a baked potato! I’m looking forward to owning it in 4K at last!
I have a long history with TREY PARKER’S CANNIBAL! I was first handed a bootleg VHS back in the 90’s and instantly fell in love with it, spending many an hour persuading friends of its delights and subjecting them to multiple viewings. Fast forward to 2008, and I produced and directed the WORLD PREMIERE large-scale (west end cast) stage production of TREY PARKERS MASTERPIECE ‘CANNIBAL! THE MUSICAL, THE MUSICAL’ advertised as ‘The World's BEST and ONLY cannibalistic cowboy boy comedy’ at the tender age of 28.
Starting in London and then transferring to Edinburgh for four weeks, our 6-week London run was scheduled in the west end shortly after but tragically cut short for various logistical reasons (and Trey had a little show he was concentrating on... book of something). Crazy but fun-filled times. Some of the cast have gone on to become West End stars; our POLLY PRY Aimie Atkinson just finished a stellar West End run as the lead in Pretty Woman, and other cast members have won multiple awards, including Olivier and Tony's!
Mounting the first large-scale production was an amazing experience, and the show in other forms has continued to thrive ever since with a brand new large-scale pro run in the past decade and smaller but mighty productions across the world every year. Keeping that shpadoinkle feeling alive in the baked potatoes of audience members across the globe! I’m thrilled to be a part of that legacy. Working on Trey Parker's first musical was an amazing opportunity.
My history with Trey Parker goes back further.
I was one of the first in the U.K. to circulate Trey Parker and Matt Stone's rough and ready ‘Santa vs. Jesus/Spirit of Christmas’ (an early viral homemade South Park Pilot) thanks to an American buddy who got his copy from FOX exec Brian Graden way back in ‘95. It was created as a viral VHS Christmas card (we didn’t have memes, internet, or iMessage; heck, we didn’t have internet then!). Viral memes were all manual. I’d show it at house parties up and down the U.K., copying it freely for anyone that wanted a copy (as was intended by its creators). The ageing hipster in me gladly states, “I knew about South Park before it was cool,” and in this case it’s weirdly true. In fact, if you’re in the U.K. and have a VHS copy, it may well be from me and my master copy 🤣.
I was over the bloody moon to bring Trey and Matt's masterpiece to the stage on such a large scale. Reworking parts of the script for the new setting. Ten years later, I was a producer on the multi-award-winning West End premiere run of TOXIC AVENGER THE MUSICAL! Keeping those TROMA musicals alive! I’ve been working out which show to produce next to complete my theatrical trilogy of musicals. POULTRYGEIST perhaps?
Trey Parker did some wonderful and supportive PR and broadsheet interviews for us back in the day, and Cannibal! head honcho Jason McHugh exec produced and played Mr. Mills (check out his WIKIPEDIA page for a photo of him in costume). We got some amazing 5-star reviews (BBC, Metro, etc.) and some brutal 1-star reviews too (The Stage, the Scotsman), as well as some amazing TV and radio coverage. Our illustrated poster ended up in Dynamite comics ‘ART OF TROMA.‘ many years on. Good times.
I spoke with both Jason and C!TM star Dian Bachar these past weeks, as well as the fine folk at 𝖵𝗂𝗇𝖾𝗀𝖺𝗋 𝖲𝗒𝗇𝖽𝗋𝗈𝗆𝖾 , to congratulate them! Everyone is rightfully excited about Cannibals 4K debut. This Blu-ray is going to be stacked. With original cast members such as Dian and Jason providing new, never-before-seen interviews. There will be some great past stage show stuff on there too. Including interviews about its debut in New York. Congrats to Lloyd Kaufman and the Troma Entertainment team on this world-first transfer.
I’ve brushed off some wonderful archival material from our show recently. Stuff I haven’t seen or looked at in 15 years since our production. There’s some really great video, design, and photographic material I’ve never shown anyone. I’ve discussed this material with and offered the exclusive license to VS for future pressings if they want it. I may post some of it here or on our old musical channel if I can remember the passwords (it’s been 15 years).
Break a leg to all involved! Exciting times to be a CANNIBAL! fan.
