hey! this is actually something i've thought about quite a lot before so here's how i see it:
since monsters are so diverse in the monster world, there are a vast amount of factors that are considered beautiful. some monsters may like 1 eye, some like 3 eyes and some like 8. some like feathers, scales, or fur. it just comes down to preference. but for monsters, generally, scary = beautiful
firstly, for the teeth thing, i imagined that just like human beauty standards, monster beauty standards can change. perhaps yellow teeth used to be the standard, but then it was discovered that whiter teeth made them more visible and gave them a scarier appearance. also, maybe they discovered that poor dental health caused monsters to lose their teeth sooner, which is a problem if you rely on them for scaring. proper dental care allowed you to stay healthy and kept your teeth in good condition, keeping you in the scaring career for longer. like when sulley is brushing his teeth in mi, mike really emphasizes getting rid of plaque
this change could also be why randall's teeth in mi are visibly whiter than they were in mu
as for female monsters, i see it sorta like how jessica rabbit from who framed roger rabbit is in toon town. she's regarded as very beautiful, but not as desireable or successful (to other toons) as roger rabbit, someone more cartoony and goofy looking
so though the more humanoid looking monsters could be considered beautiful, since being a scarer is known as the biggest achievement a monster could have, if you're scary, you're considered beautiful on a whole other level.
another idea i had is that scaring could be considered as a male dominated career, so the scary/beauty standards for female monsters aren't as scrutinized as much as male monsters. this could be why there are more female monsters that aren't necessarily as "scary looking"
this could also play a role into why the pnk's are so cutthroat- with a more conventionally beautiful appearance, they might not be considered the most successful in monster society. sure they could be models and movie stars
(though i can still see """scary/conventionally unattractive""" monsters being just as viable as models and moviestars in the monster world, maybe even more so),
but since scarers are the creme de la creme, "prettier" monsters could sometimes be seen as beautiful but maybe not typically the image of someone "successful" or "desireable" (my oc lia is a scarer and has a body type similar to the pnks so i made this an insecurity of hers hehe)
but monsters can combat this by showing their scariness through their glowing eyes, teeth, claws, etc. this could be valuable as well as there's a scary/surprising factor to appearing "innocent" at first, which could be advantageous in scaring, if you know how to use it (like the pnk's in the toxicity challenge or terri and terry in the scare simulator)
also considering the movie poster seen in maw; it's about monsters in space, likely referring to aliens. humans could be considered aliens/alien-looking to monsters because they come from another world, and heather has a more humanoid appearance
on the other hand, hss is more favored as "one of the most powerful, scary monsters in campus, and they have a more traditionally "scary" appearance. and in monsters at work, of the female monsters in the mu sororities, rosie levin was the one who made it to the same scare/(laugh) floor that sulley/(mike) are/(were) on, at monsters inc.
so really i think beauty is subjective in the monster world since everyone is so different. conventionally beautiful monsters are still beautiful, maybe even some monster's preference, but scary monsters are generally favored most, because of how much monster society is centered around scaring. after all, "scariness is the true measure of a monster."

Blue Devil #16
For as silly as some of this is, the in-world world-building of this page is fascinating and gives me so much academic nerdy glee.
And shout out to Clark for covering his ass by writing about himself. lol
(Transcribed text below the cut for easier reading for anyone interested.)
Apologia and Addenda: On the Secrets of Kid Devil
By S.W. Kirschtorte, PH.D., Elvira Coddleston, PH.D., and Irving Bleinseid, PH.D
L-2052
Aftermath--Following the return to mental stability of Van "Vanquisher" Vanucci, participants in his capture pose outside Herby's Health Hut, where the house special, Sprout Surprise for 10, was enjoyed by all.
It was the late Prof. Jack Nachbar, during his ill-fated inquiry into the motivations of the notorious Lex Luthor, who first observed, "Oh, no, he's got a--a laser rifle of some sort! I told you we never should have tried to penetrate his--EYAAAGH!" (Nachbar and Bleinseid, "Inside Luthor's Lair: An Unfinished Odyssey," JHNCS, I:4, Autumn 1980). The strenuous objections, bordering on paranoia, with which scholarly attempts at conscientious scrutiny have been fended off by hero and villain alike have since been well documented, and long decried, in this Journal. Thus it must come as no small surprise to many of our colleagues that the authors of "The Secret Identity Scandal: Super-hero as Jekyll and Hyde" (JHNCS, II:3, Summer 1981) should have chosen to conceal the alter ego of the youth known as Kid Devil (see preceding article for an account of his origins).
Let us first assure one and all that this decision was not made under the pressure of recent publicity [editor's note: former heavyweight boxing champion Ted Grant has withdrawn his lawsuit stemming from the article "Wildcat: Brain Damage and the Heroic Ideal"], nor will we cease to publish such excellent speculative series as the current "Man and Superman" (in our next issue, longtime Superman watcher Clark Kent explains why he thinks that the Man of Steel may in fact have no secret identity at all).
In this special instance, however, explicit assurances of privacy and anonymity have been made to the parents of the lad we have called "Beaver." A second condition of Kid Devil's continued training, and the Institute's assistance in same, was that he be restrained from further public displays of hypernormal abilities. Thus, despite the exploits detailed above, Kid Devil can hardly be said to have reached the status of public personality that would make him "fair game," as it were, for incisive dissection by the scholarly scalpel. Therefore, while full disclosure of Kid Devil's progress will be made in subsequent issues of this Journal, it must and will be done within the parameters established in consultation with "Beaver's" parents.
Having taken this unusual decision, we thought it appropriate to review the issues in the secret identity debate. Longtime readers will recall our second anniversary roundtable on the subject (Kirschtorte, Dibny, Olsen, et al, "The Private Lives of Powered Persons: Secret Identities in a Free Society," JHNCS, III:1, Winter 1982), in which the estimable James B. "Jimmy" Olsen set forth the reasons why the typical "super-hero" (to use the common parlance) chooses to conceal certain facts from public view. Foremost among these was the familiar argument that "criminals could strike at a hero through his loved ones." The origins of this particular paranoid delusion are hard to pin down (cf. Coddleston, "The Loved Ones: Unresolved Oedipal Conflicts in the Orphaned Superman," JHNCS, V:2, Spring 1984), but it must be said that the experiences of Ralph "Elongated Man" Dibny, Dan "Blue Devil" Cassidy, and John "Green Lantern" Stewart do not bear it out. As Dibny said, "Anyone who tries it is gonna find my elongated fingers reaching down his throat and ripping out his (continued on p. 117)

Movies/TV watched 2024; asterisks * are rewatches, asterisks w/question marks *? are rewatches I couldn’t remember having seen before but had a vague sense of familiarity and/or I found evidence of watching elsewhere in my archive. Struck titles were unfinished (I absolutely loved the book In Cold Blood but dozed off a bunch during the movie; Under the Skin seemed promising but I had to turn it off because I could NOT emotionally deal with the baby on the beach.)
This year I treated myself to some old weird nostalgia movies on VHS (YouTube or Internet Archive links provided when available). We have a decent collection of thrifted DVDs and we borrow a lot of movies from the library. Occasionally I’ll sign up for a month of a streaming service if there’s something ~exclusive~ we want to watch, and then we’ll end up watching whatever horror garbage is offered. Honestly, I think “meh, it was okay” was my main reaction to a lot of the movies I watched this year? Kind of a bummer.
Favorites in 2024: BEETLEJUICE BEETLEJUICE!!!!! I just loved everything about it :D I thought it was aesthetically the right amount of Tim Burton without being *too much* Tim Burton, ya know? (Love movie environments that feel like a dark ride!) Beetlejuice is a forever favorite, one of my earliest “crushes” (proving that I have absolutely never had good taste in men & that as early as age 4 I yearned for a witty dirtbag prankster to show up and “promptly whisk [me] off from [my] ordinary life into wacky adventures in the land of the dead” [description from the box set of the animated series, yikes lmao; my other fave beginning around this time was Doctor Who lol, obvious underlying theme is obvious]). ANYway, BJ BJ was also the first movie we saw in theatres post-covid! Not necessarily due to covid-related concerns, but just like, idk, being busy and frugal homebodies. And I guess since more theatres are offering restaurant food nowadays, they’re making it more difficult to sneak food in (no bags allowed), booooo.
Other faves: Asteroid City (I’m not usually a Wes Anderson person but this was visually stunning), His House, Poor Things. The Seeding was pretty wild, if heavy-handed. Tho I kind of thought *everything* about male/female relationships in horror movies I saw this year was getting pretty heavy-handed :/ Sisters with Transistors was a cool documentary about women (Delia Derbyshire, Daphne Oram, Wendy Carlos, Pauline Oliveros, et al.) in the early days of electronic music, dreamily narrated by Laurie Anderson (*heart-eyes*). Beatles ’64 was surprisingly okay! I *really* appreciated the interviews with people who were young Beatlemaniacs back in the ‘60s, hearing (mostly) women talk about how the Beatles represented a new way of being masculine, how liking the Beatles could provide a sense of agency for women navigating their own desires, etc. That was a cool perspective which I do not personally encounter very often in the Beatles cinematic universe. (For background: My two most recent long-term relationships have been with indie musicians who just happen to be extremely obsessed with the Beatles, so I’ve spent the past 17+ years absorbing deep dives about how great they are, and while I like many of their songs and Understand Their Position of Importance in the History of Pop/Rock/Human Culture, I just do not give a fuuuck on a personal level. But I do still begrudgingly respect my partner’s interest enough to occasionally watch a Beatles documentary with him.)

by Kervia Kori’andr, the princess of Tamaran, was the only surviving member of her planet. The two orphans grow up to be best friends which their parents encourage, until the day everything changes. Pics:
1 & 2. Covers for the book being studied. They are collections of short stories.
3 thru 6. Subterranean tales have proven to be sure sellers, probably since Plato's "Parable of the Cave."
1906: The Earth (is) Not Hollow.
Intro: "The Cavern World" is actually a short work by James P. Olsen.
He also used the pen name of James A. Lawson while writing for Spicy Romance Stories!
Though born in Denmark, James lived & married while at Salt Lake City.
Plot: A great oil field suddenly goes dry!
And, our hero finds himself 2 miles deep - trapped far under the surface!!
Unluckily, he's not alone...
But, it's among the revolting Petrolia that he finds out what went wrong & he's able to fix everything!
Criticism: Few readers found nice things to say about this short tale.
Instead, they found not much to like!! The writing was unexciting & full of implausible coincidences!
The characters were all shallow & unlikeable!! Even the monsters aren't interesting...
Worse, the subterranean world is just another repeat out of better works!!
Author Output:
1. "Date With Death" - a short murder mystery.
2. "Werewolf's Bride" - a short horror tale for Spicy Romance Stories.
Note: All his works seem to be for pulp magazines.
Legacy: James seems not to have left much of one. So, any info on him would be greatly appreciated...
There's got to be some good tall tales about a Viking who dared settle in our Wild West!

songs i think the marauders era characters would EAT THE FUCK UP!!
james potter
‘say yes’ by elliott smith
i feel like james doesn’t really listen to music that much, more so just pick out a few songs that sirius and remus like and just go with it. remus loves elliott smith (despite his more ‘grunge’ music taste) so he would play a lot of his songs when he’s alone or just chilling out.
james would hear this song and be like “UMMM THIS IS SO ME CORE” and he’d listen to it on repeat for WEEKS.
remus lupin
‘my iron lung’ by radiohead
this mother fucker is a radiohead stan. remus is the radiohead bf sirius is his blur gf.
he loves a little guitar riff and then absolutely nonsensical breakdowns in the middle of the chorus 👍
also i feel like he just relates to the teen angst vibe of it. he listens to it when he’s upset that he’s a queer werewolf from care home. so HIS ‘iron lung’ in that sense would be he queerness and his upbringing, or maybe even sirius at some points.
sirius black
‘beetlebum’ by blur
one thing abt sirius is that he only listens to brit-rock or 2000’s pop punk bangers with explicit sexual innuendos. they just hit!
he’s an early p!atd stan btw. soz.
and a deftones boy. cringe!
but he really likes blur!! he listens to it for hours at a time. he just LOVES the chorus soooo much. it’s a bit basic but he likes it.
lily evans
‘velvet ring’ by big thief
i feel like lily is a folk fan above all other genres of music. obviously she loves fleetwood mac, taylor swift, etc… but her loyalties lie with the cluttered, wordy and intimate lyricism of artists like big thief, clario and sidney gish.
lily listens to this specific song whenever she feel nostalgic or when she’s got growing pains. it kinda grounds her. she’s the type of person who gets so fixated on the past or what her futures gonna look like, so she channels those feelings into reflection instead. she finds a lot big thief’s songs do just that :)
marlene mckinnon
‘debris’ by lowertown
marlene loves indie girl music!! she loves messy vocals and melancholic chord progressions, so she lovesss lowertown.
this song is basically the verbalisation of how she feels other people would treat her if she finally opened up. she feels deeply attacked by the lyrics lol xx
mary mcdonald
‘this is what makes us girls’ by lana del rey
this mf loves lana del rey more than anything. she is a dark feminine born to die giant falsies dark pink french tips and ices mocha latte typa girlie.
this song just makes her feel so powerful and so connected to her friends!! she thinks it’s just so her. she also feels like her attractiveness is one of her best qualities (which isn’t true she’s literally the funniest and kindest girl at hogwarts) and one of her only strengths and she HATES FEELING THAT WAY… so when she listens to lana she’s like ‘mmm she’s so mother! she gets me!!!’
she knows she’s a pretty girl with a group of pretty girl friends and she loves it!!!!
regulus black
‘you’re on your own kid’ by taylor swift
ok regulus is not a tswizzle fan by any means.
but pandora likes her and forced him to listen to a few of her favourite songs. when this song came on he was like “… ok wtf 😧 she’s so me”
all of the lyrics just ATE in his mind. he relates to every lyric PAINFULLY SO.
pandora
‘whatever’ by elliott smith
pandora listens to literally every type of music ever.
she likes phoebe bridgers and found out about elliott smith though her, and heard this song and was like “elliott smith wrote this song about reggie and i xx”
they’re best friends! they are literally the bestest of friends. such a pure friendship.
all of them :)
‘spring’ by angel olsen
bro you’ve gotta listen to this song. it’s like evil crack.

TOMSLAND'S FC MASTERLIST
Aloha! He decidido hacer este FC Masterlist en lugar de una muse page porque durante 10 años de rol tuve más niños que una guardería. A continuación encontrarán faceclaims que he roleado/roleo/me gustaría rolear. Los escritos en negrita son personajes ya creados y el icono de estrella señala a mis musas principales, pero siéntanse libre de pedirme a quién sea que tengan como wanted opposite porque me abundan las ganas de rolearlos a todos.

Superman's Daughter
read it on AO3 at https://ift.tt/ABdUm3j by Kervia Kori’andr, the princess of Tamaran, was the only surviving member of her planet. Her parents, knowing of an ancient prophecy concerning their second child, placed their daughter in a pod for her own safety, as Trigon destroyed their planet. Discovered by a newly married Clark Kent, he and his wife, Lois, decide to raise the alien princess as their own. They have never regretted their decision, especially since they could have no children of their own. Meanwhile, Dick Grayson is adopted and raised by Bruce Wayne to be a vigilante, a superhero, and a manwh@re. Much like Bruce, Dick is angry, broody, and withdrawn. He pushes away anyone and everyone, only keeping certain people close, but never letting them get too close. That is, until he meets Kory Kent at the Justice League Daycare & Academy. The two orphans grow up to be best friends which their parents encourage, until the day everything changes. When Clark tries to intervene in the burgeoning relationship between Kory and Dick, he sets off a chain of events which will lead to new relationships, new families, world-changing events, dangerous situations, unexpected consequences, and a love story for the ages… fated before either Dick or Kory were even born.
