Had a great time seeing James Lance in Uncle Vanya in person and watching again online. Although I did spend most of the online watch taking screenshots. I just love watching his expressions when the other actors are speaking.

I can't stop thinking about how emotional Ted got during his little speech about his friend who had to watch the Super Bowl alone twice. And how he should have been there. It's been 25 years since he didn't watch football with his friend, and he gets upset when he talks about it. Surely there is more to it than what we're lead to believe by the silly comparison. His body language and way of talking (and the background music) reminds me of the scene in season 2 episode 1: Goodbye Earl when he talks about the dog that he took care of when he was younger. Go watch that scene and then go back and watch the scene from the latest episode from the moment he says "'Cause I wasn't there. 'Cause I "didn't care."" And then note when the music starts when he says : "I should've supported him." The way he's looking down, not meeting anyone's eyes. I don't think he's really talking to the team at that point, he's talking to himself.

I want to know what Ted realised as he was telling that story, because his mood changes, or he lets his mask fall, I don't really know. But you can see the change in the way he looks at the people in the room, and how he gets more and more emotional. To the point where he's not even really looking at the other people in the room. You cannot convince me that is a man who is simply upset about not watching two Super Bowls with a friend 25 years ago.

This is a fantastic waistcoat originally made for the Eglinton Tournament of 1839, a lush historical reenactment of Merrie Olde Englande. Inspired by Tudor and Elizabethan knightly jousts, but also the historical novels in vogue, it was a multi-day extravaganza held at Eglinton Castle in Scotland with a few dozen knights and a hundred thousand spectators, many in fancy dress.

This waistcoat was probably sold as a souvenir of the tournament. Aspects of historicism are present not only in the fabric but also the construction; the lapel is sewn on, but it closes with covered buttons off center rather than with a more open front, possibly in reference to a doublet.

It can be seen from the surviving engravings that though there were attempts at historical accuracy, they often mixed centuries and countries, and were distinctly late-1830s flavoured.

The Tournament was a reaction to the modernizing world and removal of many old royal ceremonies, but also was seen by some as a lavish waste of money in a time of widespread poverty. Though tickets were free and distributed to any who wanted them, it was a particularly aristocratic event; participants had to supply costumes and armor, and to have enough money to buy antique armor or to have a family suit of armor would require a great deal of money and/or an old family.

There were a few accounts of the tournament printed: a short description, a longer description with an account of the history of chivalry, a very detailed description, and a massive tome which also took the task of the origin of all social ranks which also has a lot of it narrated by the ghosts of King James VI and Sir David Lindsay, and an absolutely wild amount of stuff in it.

did Lance hit him? yes. did he deserve the penalty? yes. was the accident caused by a chain reaction at the front? YES.

I know there's a lot to unpack in James' new interview but I am feral, FERAL I SAY, over this fucking line right here:

"His need was to be loved, and his tragic flaw was the belief that he was unlovable."

Back before Season 3 hit and Tedependent became ~trendy~ (not actually lol) I was heacanoning and writing Trent as a pretty anxious individual, someone with a ton of internalized self-loathing whose "whole vibe" was more of a mask than legitimate self-confidence. At the time I worried about him coming across as too OOC because really, what did we have to support this? Ted Lasso's prevailing theme of men discovering love and support when they previously had none? The lovely parallel of Trent struggling with many of Ted's own flaws, but presenting in opposite ways (cutting cynicism vs. endless optimism)? The then—far less developed—comments from James that Trent might have a rough relationship with his father? It felt unsubstantiated, unpersuasive, built more on my own interest in those kinds of characters and the occasional awkward moment from Trent than actual canon. Even into Season 3 I questioned whether my reading of him as struggling, significantly, with the care Ted offers wasn't just a result of my own, imagined inner life for him.

But NOW.

I'm sorry, hold up, can I just re-confirm that TRENT'S TRAGIC FLAW IS HIS BELIEF THAT HE'S UNLOVABLE? Unlovable??? Thank you, James Lance, for validating every reading I've had of this character since he first appeared on screen. Do people realize the depth this adds to every interaction Trent has? Particularly with Ted? Unlovable Trent Crimm starts off this relationship with a sincere compliment on his style ("I like your glasses"), something that Season 3 will present as a core part of his personality, something he's largely hidden away. Unlovable Trent Crimm grappling with the fact that yes, Ted enjoyed spending time with him. Him. WHILE he was playing the part of the asshole journalist. Unlovable Trent not being rejected when he admits, in moments of vulnerability, that he "Loves [their] chats." Unlovable Trent having his father's (likely snide) "Independent" comment reframed as a fun pun + advice to follow his "bliss": you have support, Trent, no matter what you choose to do. I don't care if you're successful covering a masculine-coded sport, I care if you're happy. Unlovable Trent committing the ultimate betrayal and being forgiven for it, immediately. Unlovable Trent being forcibly integrated into the Richmond family; actively accepted rather than passively tolerated: yes you should work here, yes you're a Diamond Dog, sit your butt down, Trenthouse Magazine, you will never be excluded again.

I'm sorry for the rambling post but I'm just so!! Insane about this!!! So much of Trent's hesitance could have been written off as a result of his career. That is, it might have been merely a learned reaction after decades of deliberately pissing people off. Of course they dislike him, but take him out of that environment and everything's fixed. Yet James has confirmed that he played Trent as intrinsically believing this. The career was a result of that unfounded fear—Might as well keep people at a distance before they hurt me first—as well as, simultaneously, a desire to somehow achieve the love that should have been unconditional from the start—Maybe my father will like me if I can be that "alpha male man's man" in print. Because this isn't just a flaw, it's a tragic flaw, a literary term that denotes a deficiency that leads to the character's downfall. This belief is so entrenched that it has led to Trent actively self-sabotaging his chances of being loved in the first place; a horrible self-fulfilling prophecy. He NEEDED someone like Ted—a fucking love sledgehammer that forces people to accept his care in the least subtle ways possible, even when they're acting as their own worst enemy—and by god, he got him!

Aside from Nate, Trent has always felt like the most isolated character to me at the start of the series (and even Nate has a good relationship with his mother and sister). What we've learned in Season 3 and James' interviews has only reinforced that reading for me: he was closeted in his marriage, unintentionally hurting his daughter, he's suffering under his father's expectations, he hates the press persona he's created to survive, he's bored at his job, footballers and other potential interviewees despise him—and not without reason (Roy). He has no friends that we see pre-Richmond and he's reached a point where the simple act of someone saying that they liked spending the day with him—again, while he's actively TRYING to piss them off and keep his distance—has him in such a state of shock he runs for the door, pens an uncharacteristically hopeful write-up, and is well on his way to upending his entire life for that man.

Because of course he is!!! From Trent's perspective Ted is a fucking impossibility shaped into human form. This is a man in his 40s whose greatest lifelong fear—now all but a certainty at his age—has been dismantled in a matter of hours. I'd write a book-length love letter to him too! And RIP to finale!Trent, but I would have run fucking Rom-Com style after the man who not only changed my life, but my entire sense of self-worth. (Ah fuck, but there's that tragic flaw again, keeping Trent hesitant. I now stand by my reading of the "I'll leave you be" scene as an unrequited goodbye.)

But finale aside, the man who'd convinced himself he was unlovable fell for the man who was love incarnate.

Just gonna start cross posting every single bit of Twitter nonsense soooo

Lance joining Keith on blade missions post war and calling him "Captain" in the most flirty tone. He does this during meetings and such just to make Keith blush or stutter in his words.

The first time lance does this it catches Keith so far off guard his reaction isn't at all subtle.

"Excuse me, Captain~" Lance all but purrs the title in that lovely lilting tone of his and Keith damn near chokes on his own spit right in front of a room of BOM personel.

He clears his throat best he can trying to gather himself- because what the fuck- "y...yes Lance?"

"What if we went in teams of two? That way at least two people could tackle that northern section there."

Keith turns to look at the map, fluster momentarily forgotten, and sees Lance is right it would make more sense.

So plans are changed with unanimous agreement and things move on.

The flirtatious captain is forgotten until it happens again, this time in the halls.

Keith is talking to a commander for one of the resistance outpost when he feels a presence slide into his side so smooth and efficiently he nearly ignores it.

He knows it's lance, it always was, and he's more surprised by the fact Lance stays so silent.

It's not until the Commander, a man named Zyre, starts to comment on lack of trust that Lance speaks up before Keith can even get a word.

"Excuse me Commander but I can assure you Captain Kogane has it all under control" he says it with a charming smile that seems to ease all of Zyres worries.

Keith never knows how he managed it with such ease and simplicity, to calm someone's worries as if it's his living purpose.

He watches as the two talk, ending with a light laugh and a kind goodbye.

As the commander leaves Lance turns to look at him, blue eyes sparkling like the ocean "what's wrong Captain?" And there it is again that flirtatious sing song of his title that makes Keith gulp. A tanned hand smoothly slides up Keiths arm making his mouth run dry "cat got your tongue?"

Keith fights the flaming blush rising up his cheeks, he turns to rush away in place of a reply knowing it was far more incriminating thid way.

If he hears Lances twinkling laughter as he turns the corner Keith makes nothing of it.

The third time is, unfortunately for Keith, during a joint BOM and Atlas meeting.

Griffin was arguing the benefit of using some of his crew alongside one of the other branches of the resistance and it was draining Keith's patience to no end.

Sure they get along now, somewhat, but that didn't mean he found James particularly pleasant to listen to.

He drones on and on about the efficiency and things he'd already covered in his pitch but despite a good amount of the room being a tad annoyed no one seemed willing to stop him...yet

That's when Keith sees It, the look™ on Lances face and he knows oh God does he know.

Lance smiles when he notices he's caught Keiths eye and tosses him a knowing wink.

Keith fights everything in him not to groan as Lance shifts to cut Griffin off without even looking at the guy. Those blue eyes zeroing in on Keith from across the room with terrifying accuracy and focus.

"Captain Kogane" he says oh so sweetly it shuts everyone up in an instant. Lance even bats his lashes for extra effect because his new favorite thing to do is apparently publicly torture Keith.

"I-" Keith starts far too distracted to even notice the way some have started giggling at his demise. Too far gone for this boy that his loss for words is so heavy for something so small.

"You had a contact in that Sector didn't you? Why not utilize them?"

It's not until after the meeting that Keith realizes others have taken notice to Lances....well, whatever it is he's doing.

Keith tries to ignore the look, the whispers, the focus. He really does. But then Shiro has that shit eating grin on his face as he walks up next to him and Keith would rather be literally anywhere else.

"So Captain Kogane huh?" Shiro asks smugly.

Keith glares at him "shut it grandpa, he's just being respectful."

That makes shiro snort "yeah sure respectful is definitely the word for that."

Keith reserved to say nothing as they walked to the cafeteria and did his best to ignore every giggle and whisper thrown as he passes.

If he thought that was bad he wasn't ready for the way people mockingly called him Captain at lunch. They'd say it with that same flirty lit and over the top gestures that made his skin crawl. Its not in a mean way, he knows. It's more in the they were clearly mocking Lances tone kind of way and Keith found that unacceptable.

It irked him to no end. If they were gonna poke fun at him fine! But don't bring lance into it.

So Keith did the only rational thing left. He left the cafeteria.

He tracked down Lance because even if he was the cause of the teasing Lance was still far better company than anyone else on this god forsaken ship.

He found him in the ships artificial courtyard humming to himself as he played with the vines.

He sits next to Lance enjoying the simplicity of the moment since they usually don't get much time like this and returns the smile Lance throws his way. It's comforting when they're together like this. Just the two of them with no prying eyes or mission discussions.

"What brings you here Samurai? I would've thought you'd eat lunch with Shiro."

Keith huffs a bit "with everyone jokingly calling me Captain I'd rather sit somewhere relaxing."

Lance frowns "do...do you not like being called Captain?"

Keith looks at lance dumfounded, he's unable to reply before lance continues "should I stop?"

"NO!"

The two look at eachother wide eyed for a moment.

A beat pases.

Two.

Lances surprise fades into a small smirk, a dangerous understanding filling his eyes "oh so you do like it when I call you Captain?"

"I- well..." He stutters trying to fight the rising heat on his ears. Keith wouldn't dare admit it out loud he can't. He can't give lance a weapon like this, his heart wouldn't survive.

But despite the lack of voicing his agreement Lance picks up on it anyways. Those sharp eyes always on target, lazer focused, and amused much to Keiths dismay.

Lance chuckles standing to leave "well, I'll see you around then Captain~"

And Keith has never wanted to smack himself more for being such an oblivious idiot.

Just like a small question based on that one ask, but... might the lack of brown/black men in popular M/M ships have to do with people trying really hard not to be racist so they just... never feature black/brown men? Because I know several F/F ships with brown/black women, but I can't remember a single M/M or even M/F with a black/brown male love interest... well, maybe Link/Gan or Zelda/Gan? But besides that one... nothing rings a notable bell.

Part of it is "I don't know. I just don't find them hot for some reason..."-style racism. That can shift with time and exposure but there's no instant fix even if someone is interested in changing their own tastes.

Part of it is being instantly screamed at and held to higher standards. (And yes, no matter how much people want to whine and say this isn't true, it is true, and anyone who goes ahead and writes despite the haters will tell you so.)

Part of it is fear of messing up above and beyond fear of reactions. Personally, I think this is toxic white guilt-flavor time-wasting and it's better to try and fail than not try, but it's a massive factor in what some people choose to write.

A lot of it is simply the composition of the mega-franchises that tend to generate the ships with bajillions of works. If we're looking at AO3 circles, the biggest f/f ships are not that big. If you look at m/m ships of the same size, there are some with some guy who is not white and not a pale-skinned Asian.

I don't see anything particularly significant until we get further down the listings, but there are definitely smaller fandoms like Leverage where everybody loves and ships the black guy.

I mean, yes, clearly, media does have a bias against darker skin, and the darker the skin, the bigger the bias. This bias may be exacerbated by fandom, but in a lot of cases, it just seems to be replicated at about the same level.

That pattern notwithstanding, it seems like you just haven't heard of a lot of ships.

you first met James Aubrey when he helped you and your husband Lance figure out who framed your best friend Seeley Booth.

Your first thoughts of him was that he was kinda adorable with his extreme eating habits and goofy personality.

“he's adorable” you whispered to Booth, when you said it back then you didn't mean it as you were attract to him. You ment as if someone called a small child adorable.

What you didn't know was he was smitten when he saw you, he thought you were beautiful and extremely smart. He couldn't stop staring at you and your husband and best friend noticed.

Lance trusted you and it was clear you weren't interested to Aubrey, he let it go and focused on the case. He was still sharp towrds him though, he was checking his wife out after all.

Booth had a different reaction, he thought it was humorous but wanted to Inform him before he started playing with fire. He took Aubry aside without you two knowing “married” he pointed at you, he then pointed to Lance. “husband”

He didn't know why it hurt so much, especially do to the fact you guys just met, but there was something about you and he couldn't get you out of his head. He really tried to let it go but failed, he had a crush on a married woman.

“don't worry” Seeley said, patting his back. “you'll get over it like the rest of them” meaning everyone has had a crush on you at least once.

To make matters worse he was there to witness your husband getting gun down. He felt tears run down his cheek as he watched you hold Lance lifeless body and sob.

“please don't leave me” you cried and rested your forehead on his. “I love you so much” Lance said softly

James didn't know what to do, he wanted to help some how but he only stood there in shock.

Seeley tried to separate you and Lance but you weren't having it. “he's not dying! Please Temperance help me” you cried.

Temperance was trying to hold it together herself. She held back her tears and looked at her husband then back at you. “honey... He's gone”

Seeley made his final good by in privet. “I'll make sure they're alright... Y/n and Charlotte both, I promise to protect them”

And just like that the love of your life was gone, it left a huge whole in your heart and all you wanted to do was avenge Lance.

What hurt you most was telling your daughter Charlotte that her daddy was gone, and on top of that your son hadn't even been born yet.

You stayed strong for your daughter, she had yet to real learn about death. She would have with when her gold fish Gus died but Lance replaced it while she was at preschool. All she knew was her daddy was in Heaven now.

You couldn't sleep on Lance's side of the bed, work got harder, and you just started to drift through time. Your brother Jack got worried about you and asked you and your daughter to move in with him and Angela.

It was a nice change, you got to be with your big brother, who you saw as your hero and Charlotte had the opportunity to grow up with her cousin Michael-Vincent.

A couple months went by and you started to feel better, you knew Lance wouldn't want you to be in so much pain so you tried to just live every day in his name.

Suprisenly James became a good friend to you, for awhile he forgot about his crush on you and just wanted to be there for you and your Daughter.

He made you laugh, the first time you really laughed since Lance passed away was when you went on a case with Seeley and James. It was video game company and James stoped to take a goofy selfie with a bigfoot. Seeley would have told him to knock it off, but it was the first time he heard you laugh in a while and he didn't want to take that away from you.

The more you hung out the more he fell for you and it scared the hell out of him... The both of you. At the time you didn't want another relationship, Lance was the love of your life and you always thought you only get one. You were scared you were giving off the wrong signals to him. Your kindness has been mistaken for flirting before.

Two years passed and your friendship with James only grew stronger. He was their when your son Seeley Lance Sweets was born. He was in the waiting room while your brother and Angela was there comforting you.

James got to be one of the first few to hold little Seeley and was aw struck. Once he saw that little boy he made a promised that he'd protect him and his sister from now on.

People noticed how differently James would treat you. He was naturally a kind man, but with you he treated you like a queen and was always there to protect you if you were out of the lab helping with a case.

He treated your kids like his own, he knew he'd could never replace Lance and he wasn't trying to, but if he need to babyset he would, if they want him read them a story he'll go all out and make difference voices for the characters. He loves your son and daughter.

Then there was the whole sharing food. People knew not to get in between James and his food. Your friends suspected his feelings when they cought you two sharing a plate of fries at the Diner. “that's different” Seeley said.

Hodgins, who just happened to be with him shared a worried look. “you don't think... He would be trying to get close right? She just lost Sweets”

The two didn't try to over think it, Jack knew your stance on a new relationship. He didn't want you to be in anymore pain but he couldn't help question James reasoning, it had only been two years since Lance left.

When the bottled up feelings became too much for James he went to Booth for advice. He was pacing back and forth while also rambling, Seeley tried to keep up as he watched him pace back and forth infront of his desk.

Then it finally clicked. “Wait! Your in love with her!? And she's into you, are you sure?”

“I can't help it.. I would never push her into anything but i cant-” he started but Booth cut him off.

“No, no, no. It's just that Lance was, Lance was perfect for her. I mean, that girl's heart beat for Lance Sweets. It just, it never occurred to me that she would ever be with anyone else.”

James knew how special your relationship with Lance was to you and he respected it. If you two were ment to be he would never be jealous or mad that you'll always love Lance.

But he is human, he would feel a pit in his stomach at the thought his first with you will always be your second with him. You experienced everything that was involved with a relationship with Lance first. Sex, cuddling, having a kid, everything.

Your first reaction to your feelings for him was absolute panic and remorse. You felt you were cheating on Lance or betraying him for having feelings for another. It ate at your already broken heart and you kept it bottled up.

It would go like this, you'd sneek a glance at James, admiring his beautiful eyes and his cute little smile. Then you'd immediately start feeling bad.

Jack caught on, he knew you like the back of his hand and loved you with every fiber of his soul. One day your big brother took you to the side and asked you if you're okay. You broke down in tears and told him how awful you felt.

“buddy, your not cheating on Lance” he said softly. “he would want you to be happy... You lost Lance at such a young age and now Your experiencing something most people wouldn't after losing a spouse, your getting another chance”

You looked at him with tears in your eyes. “what if I lose him too? And I can't expect him to take care of me and my kids? My son didn't even meet Lance”

That became another fear, you were so afraid of losing him too, what if James dies on you too?

“I think you two should have a long serious talk” your brother said.

You took your brother's advance and talked to James, you talked for hours and brought of everything that was on your minds.

“just promise me you will never die on me” you said with tears in your eyes. “I promise” James nodded and slowly leaned in, you mentally panicked and moved you face so his lips landed on your cheek.

“I'm sorry.. I-” he quickly said. You looked at him saddly and pecked his cheek. “I'm just not ready for all that yet”

He nodded “when ever you are... We'll take things slow there's no rush, just know I'll always be there for you and your kids”

It's been a while since you felt so much love and it scared you, you knew you could trust him but there was still fear of losing him if you got too close.

Even if you took things slow you both loved every moment. It was the little things that mattered most, you'd go to New restaurants, watch movies, go to your kids school functions.

James didn't miss a single thing involving your kids, if your daughter had some kinda concert with her class he'd be recording the whole thing. He even got to witness your Son's first steps.

Seeley Lance or LJ has know James all his life so it wasn't a surprise he called James dad, you told him stories of his father, but he couldn't help but see James as father. Charlotte calls him Jamie, she looks up to him and all but in her mind, her daddy is in heaven.

They do have a strong bond though, the little girl loves to be a round him and feels safe with him.

Speaking of which, James did get you and your kids a puppy, a Beagle puppy that your daughter named Bluey.

The first time you ever said I love you was about a year into your relationship, unfortunately it was after a life threatening experience. You went on a case with Booth and you ended up being in a coma for about a week.

You thought you were dying, and this sad thing is you accepted it. While you were under you could have sworn you talked to Lance, you didn't know if it was hallucination or a ghost.

You ran to him and hugged him tight as tears filled both of your eyes. He was so happy and sad to see you, it just wasn't your time.

“our kids need you.. They can't lose both of their parents”

You held his face in your hands and kissed his lips saddly. “you didn't even get to meet your son... He's so much like you”

He smiled. “I know... And couldn't be more prouder of him and Charlotte both, but I know you three are being tooken care of”

Once again you felt a pit in your stomach when you thought about James, you will never be ashamed of falling in love with him. James put your piece back together and helped you heal, but Lance will alway be your first love.

“don't you ever feel bad for falling on love again... You remember the pain you felt when I died?” Lance asked softly, you nodded sadly. “Aubry is feeling that right now, he's so scared of losing you”

You knew he was right, but you still shook your head and cried... All you wanted to do was stay with him forever.

He smiled softly and whipped your tears away. You said 'I love you' one last time before you started to blink back to reality. You took deep breath and looked around the hospital room. Your brother Jack was fast asleep on a couch in the room, Charlotte and Seeley was piled up with him asleep as well.

James was fast asleep next you, he had a chair pulled up to your bed with his head in your lap and his hand holding your. You took your free hand and ran your fingers through his hair softly.

He jolted awake in a panic, he left out a sigh of relief when he saw you smiling softly at him. “your awake” he said with tears pricking his sleep-deprived eyes.

He leaned over and wrapped his arms around you. “I thought I lost you” you placed your hand on his jaw and pulled him towrds you kissing his lips passionately, it was so soft but held so much emotion. “I love you... So much James”

He smiled, you didn't know how long he's been waiting to hear thoughs words. He smiled from ear to ear and kissed you again. “I love you too”

You only pulled away when you hear your kid chearing your name. “mama!” they jumped from Jack's lap and ran to you, giving you a big hug.

You finally had peace and felt you could move on, your life was better knowing Lance and you are better person because of him. Now it's time to start over with a man you knew loved you just as much as Lance did.

October 2023

Em hadn't realised how tired being thirty weeks pregnant would make her. She was constantly sore and had run out of room for Lulu to grow but grow their daughter did. Even going up stairs was starting to wear her out. Pregnancy was tough.

But she'd held Dan's hand the whole day when they were at the Spurs Stadium, smiling as they appeared on screen at the Bills game. Her life was, yet again, fucking surreal, because she was sitting next to Hailee Steinfeld, the two talking about dating athletes and some of the ridiculousness that entailed. But she was there with Blake and Dan, laughing at Dan's antics and excitement at seeing Josh. The icing on the cake for Dan was being handed a Bills onesie for Lulu with Josh's number on it, as well as a tutu outfit. But finally they were back home before the race started.

There was a basket of clean clothes on the coffee table, Em folding them every few moments through the race. Lulu's stuff was going into a different basket, to go into a vacuum sealed bag and into the drawers in the nursery to keep them clean and dust free. But every single time she looked up she got even more worried for the drivers on track.

She knew it was bad and she didn't need to be a genius to know that, it was obvious to her. Between the heat and the tyre issue that had happened it was a weird weekend, but this seemed worse. The last time they were in Qatar was the end of November and that was bad. This seemed so much hotter. Every time Dan put another driver's camera on she could see how exhausted they were, the moment of seeing visors cracked slightly to get a breath of wind.

Her husband was watching in absolute silence, his good hand gripping hers. Usually he'd commentate on what was happening and how Max and Yuki were doing, but instead he was just watching, his left hand moving with the flow of the wheel in the drivers hands.

Blake was silent too, his phone glued to his hand as he was texting Cal and probably filling Charlie's texts for when she woke up. They were both worried, and the moment Logan came over the radio and she heard James tell him to let them look after him. She watched him barely get the car back to the pits, Dan putting the cameras for the drivers they were closest to on the screen as they watched in silence. She thanked whatever was out there that Dan wasn't driving as she watched her friends need help getting out of their cars. She squeezed Dan's hand before texting Chloe, asking for her to tell them how Lance was as soon as she heard.

Once she put the phone down it hit her. Dan had used his hand completely normally all day. There was no swelling, no pain, even his scar was healed up and looked nearly normal. He'd been folding the tiny clothes with her. He'd even caught a football in his left hand.

"You could have driven this week, couldn't you?" It was barely more than a whisper, not wanting Blake to hear it.

"Maybe." It wasn't the word that mattered, but Dan's oh I got caught face was clear. He was staring down at the sleepsuit he'd picked up to fold, too nervous about her reaction to even look at his wife's face. "I was ninety, ninety five percent there. But with only one practice and Liam hasn't driven there before it was a risk. I didn't want to risk it. I figured it'd be bad, just not this bad. It wasn't worth it for me to risk it and it wasn't worth you worrying."

It was the easy explanation. He wasn't totally there, it was a sprint, and Austin had the announcement anyway. But she knew how huge this was for Dan. He desperately wanted to be in the car, he wanted to be driving and was so excited before the crash. But he gave up a potential weekend of racing to make sure she wasn't stressed. He spent it at a football game with her and putting tiny baby clothes away so when they left for the US in a few days everything was ready for when Em and Lulu arrived back in London. He did all of that. He loved them that much.

"I love you." Em curled into his side as much as she could, sighing with relief as her phone went off with a text from Chloe confirming Lance would be ok and showing it to Dan. Then she let her husband hold her while she revelled in the luxury that he was right there with her.

Had a great time seeing James Lance in Uncle Vanya in person and watching again online. Although I did spend most of the online watch taking screenshots. I just love watching his expressions when the other actors are speaking.

I find it fascinating to witness the straight audience of any media not being able to pick up what the makers of the movie/show puts down.

It’s like when people reacted to the “You wear fine things well” scene in Our Flag Means Death with “aw, they’re such good friends” whereas the queer audience went “omg, this is happening”. We all had access to the same scene, we’d all watched the build up to that scene but the straight audience wrongly read it as friends/straight whereas the queer audience had suspected they were building up to a romance but this was the confirmation. Even the creator of the show was baffled that people were surprised that Ed and Stede fell in love. Because he thought they had made it obvious.

And as I said, we, the queer audience picked up on it. And I feel like the same thing is happening with Ted Lasso. Do I know that Ted and Trent will get together? No, I am unfortunately not a writer on Ted Lasso. But you can’t deny that there are clues pointing to it. But the straight audience barely pick up the fact that Ted and Trent like each other, be that in a platonic way or romantic way. I’ve seen several reactions to the last episode of season 2 and ONE of them included the scene where Ted reacts to Trent not being in the press room. All of them severely cut down the scene in the parking lot. One of the scenes most of us Ted/Trent truthers point to as a huge piece of evidence for it going canon. The parallel of them meeting in an empty parking lot, just like Ted and his ex-wife and Roy and Keeley. But because Ted and Trent are both men it couldn’t possibly mean anything. And Ted has an ex-wife and a kid so he can’t possibly be into men, as if there is no such thing as being bisexual. “But I’m pretty sure Trent has a family, he has a kid right?” So? He could be divorced, we also have no idea if his daughter has another dad or a mum. And the same thing applies to him, it doesn’t mean he can’t be into men (take also into account all of James Lance’s interviews, and his choice of shirt in one of them, friend of Dorothy anyone? He's the captain of this ship, we're just along for the ride tbh.)

Then we have the wonderful “I’m so not homophobic, in fact, you are homophobic because you think Ted is gay just because he likes musicals and has ‘feminine’ traits” um no… it’s the fact that he kind of acts in a way that an ally wouldn't. Yeah, he called himself an ally in that one episode. But every single person who is now out as queer who at one point considered themselves an ally because "I’m not one of them but I sure think they're neat" raise a hand 🖐️ (been there, done that. Was very into queer things before I realised I myself am one of them). What it always comes down to is "it's pandering", "it's tokenism" (having the main character on the show be queer wouldn't be fucking tokenism), "not everything has to be gay", "why can't men just be friends, there is a severe lack of male friendships on tv". And like the last one makes me go??? There are a MILLION friendships between men on TV. There are even multiple friendships between men in Ted Lasso. Beard and Ted, Ted and Higgins, Ted and Roy, the himbos and so on. Having Ted and Trent become a couple wouldn't really change anything because there are still friendships between men. They also claim that Ted is needed as the "straight without toxic masculinity" representation. As if Beard isn't right there. The man who has no problem going to an immersive show about the menstrual cycle. Has no problem with shrieking when he's surprised and so on.

I also like that if we'd get Ted and Trent together, we'd get two middle aged queer dads. Which isn't that common. It's not even super common to see people realising they're queer late in life on TV, and yet it happens every day. Because let's face it, most queer men on TV kind of look like Colin, and I don't mean that as a bad thing. And I'm looking forward to his storyline. But it's also nice seeing middle aged or old people finding themselves and being allowed to be who they are (see Ed and Stede from OFMD). Also would enjoy seeing people lose their minds when they realise they've been fooled this entire time. It'll be like Black Sails all over again.

I do not have any doubts about the fact that, had Trent or Ted been a woman and they saw Trent give up his career because of Ted's influence, they sure as hell wouldn't protest people thinking they'd become a couple. But because it's two men it's just delusional for some reason (homophobia).

What I'm saying is, it's clear that the straight audience has a hard time picking up subtext and clues that the makers are planting. Because they've never had to do that. Because they are always clearly represented. They don't have to look for minor side characters and hope that they might be queer. Because the main character is straight and most of the supporting cast too. When you've grown up with a lack of representation or with representation that is meant to be subtext, you'll learn to pick up on it. And you do look at media differently. I just wish that the straight audience could listen to us for once, without getting defensive and dancing around the fact that they are uncomfortable relating to a character that turned out to be queer.

A brief article with James Lance in support of THE FAMOUS FIVE.

Someone on Reddit took a screenshot of the galley copy of Trent's book, with the focus on the lorem ipsum page that made it into the shot, but let's look at Trent's little detour on page 43.

In the winter of 2020, on a sunny and crisp morning I bumped into an old acquaintance of mine on the tree lined banks of the river Thames. Smiling at the world, he strolled comfortably with hands in pockets, the man seeming without a care or stress in the world.

On noticing me he exclaimed, and led his friend placing an arm over the man's shoulder over to me, already singing my praises and opening his greetings with a well meaning and personally insightful question.

The man, of course, was Ted Lasso. A Kansas born American football coach come UK football coaching phenomenon.

Few of my interviewees would have such a reaction to seeing me outside of their working lives, knowing that I could ask questions that would make them uncomfortable or they wouldn't know how to answer. As well as knowing that what they choose share with me was not in confidence but could be shared with all of those that read my articles. However for Ted this pressure never made an impact. For Ted, everyone that comes into his life is a potential friend, no matter the circumstances of meeting. This attitude, it becomes clear, and I truly hope you will understand the power of its effect by the time you finish reading this book, contributed not only to Ted's personal life but to the sporting capabilities of the AFC's Richmond team.

I’ve just watched a couple of the TPs post race reactions, as well as saw the strategies that the teams used and we can conclude a couple of things from it:

The Mercedes power unit had quiet a noticeable presence today, especially with Williams, who fun fact, also take a lot of the legal components that they are allowed from Mercedes, according to James Vowles (Zak Brown, where did you dip to now). Alex and Logan both had the pace, and could have been in points today. But the power units on both the cars, in addition to Logan’s steering wheel caused them the race. But the issues were not only in the Williams, Mercedes themselves had issues, with the batteries not working properly or dying. Mercedes, what is wrong with the power units after securing multiple multi year contracts?

You can take the man out of Ferrari but not the Ferrari out of the man (Laurent Mekies I’m looking at you). The way RB handled today’s race was actually shit. Again this team was close to points, even closer than the Williams with Yuki P11. But the way they handled the race, and especially in those last few laps, just proves that Laurent still doesn’t have the handles of how Red Bull teams work, he’s, you could say, still stuck in the Ferrari haze. The car is actually good, which we saw in testing and the data, but the team handling was just shit today, and with this, Red Bull could overlook both of them, even drop one of the 2, for Liam, who was promised (maybe even signed?) a seat for 2025.

Nico is absolutely unlucky, and that is a ghost that is hunting him down. Man had a good start, but that collision with Lance cost him his race, which he could have finished in the point. Also, that Haas has pace, it’s not so bad. Let’s see if the absence of Guenther and the presence of a more technical TP is going to impact the team.

Zhou is impressive. He gained quiet a lot, with gaining 6 places and the car is not that great. I did not know his game.

Ferrari pulled a Ferrari. That’s all that could be said. Charles was very confident yesterday. He even was visibly very upset with the fact that he got P2, to today. Like, yes we don’t know if there was something, but fucking it up to the extent that the car is dangerous to even stop. This man just signed a fucking multi year contract, don’t make him regret it.

And finally, we now understand Red Bull’s runs. The runs that were only (or mainly) on C1, C2 and C3 only. They were able to properly visualize the race. And the fact that we saw how everyone in Red Bull expected the car to be slower shows that they have cooked (Adrain Newey, looks like you did it again). And the fact that these runs of Free Practices and Testing showed correct data of this track, not really focusing on topping the time sheets or any of that shit. They put their heads down and focused on the time sheets that mattered, focusing one race at a time, as well as visualize how the car is going to be and how it will work and react, gathering the data needed for checking the car (in football terms: partido a partido).

So yeah, these are kind of my initial post race analysis. Still want to geek more, but I guess this is enough for now?

I love this analysis so much.

The way VCARB fucked Yuki over by forcing him to let Daniel overtake and proceeding to not even being able to overtake the fucking Haas in front of him is absolutely appalling. I know Yuki has some temper issues he definitely needs to work on when he's in the car, but I fully support his anger this time. The move was completely uncalled for, and VCARB desperately need to realize that they can't put their eggs in the wrong basket. No matter what his die-hard fans say, Daniel is not the future of F1 and Red Bull.

With the exception of Max pulling a very Max race and being superior to the rest of the grid, my favorite part of yesterday's race was definitely Zhou. He did so well, and it was such a pleasure to see him finish P11. I really hope this season will be good for him because I so desperately want him to succeed.

Ferrari being Ferrari was, sadly, not even remotely surprising. But, it's only the first race of the season and Charles still being able to drag that broken fucking car to P4 is impressive as hell.

Red Bull has handled testing and the first race weekend masterfully, and their 1-2 finish yesterday was truly deserved. I have a feeling this season will be a good one for them, even if their domination might not be quite as extreme.
