But it's a club and not a commercial gym and they are a tight-knit group, to say the least! In John’s own words “The club was one of the largest and most renowned in Sweden in the 90s with over 800 members and some athletes dominating the national scene and competing at international level. Then the club declined to just a few members and barely survived, but since a couple of years back (this is my fourth year) we have started to bring back some of the glory and are currently around 45 members with about 15-20 actively competing. CALISTHENICS IS NOT AN OPTION.
On the surface and for the pedestrian mind of the human monkeys in this world, the term “Calisthenics” is shrouded in dismissals. 
Same human monkeys walking around with cell phones pretending they know shit. 
In their little brains, “Calisthenics” makes reference to a physical exercise done using only body weight. That indeed explains about 1% of what Calisthenics is, and leaves unresolved so much that it can be described as percentages of knowledge and understanding beyond the mind’s threshold of 100%, that are not addressed by that definition and dismissal.
Do you know why no one ever tells you to do a Burpee? Yes, a burpee. Why never ever tells you to get off your stupid fat ass and do burpees?
Because it’s free. And because it’s good for you. No equipment needed. No personal trainer by your side counting the repetitions and telling you how good you are doing and to move the elbows closer to the body, yes very good, so that you can engage the shoulders when doing the exercise and com’on, four more and in three, two, one and very good!
That is why. Everything in the world of the A.I. monsters running the world, has to have a monetary value or it has no value. That includes the simple movement of the body with the aim of keeping it healthy and strong.
Unbeknownst to me, I have been doing Calisthenics all my life, naturally and organically, ever since I was a kid and the morning after watching a Chuck Norris’ movie, I will drop down to the floor of the shower and complete some number of push ups mostly around the mind limitation number of ten. And will keep doing it, for weeks on end trying to be Chuck Norris.
But ten push ups will do.
When a teenager, I found myself interested in going to the gym. My dad in all of his wisdom, built a pull up bar in the backyard where after lunch and before going to do my studies, will complete three series of ten pulls ups. 
Thirty pulls ups. Like if it was nothing. 
So much so that one time I told a friend and he couldn’t believe me. Oh really? Well, we went to the gym and from one of the metal bars holding together a basketball ring, Mr Diz completed three series of ten pulls ups in one go. Like if nothing. My friend was flabbergasted, I was cool.
As the years went by and the gyms became ever more filled with equipment and machines, I knew inside me that a pull up from a machine was inferior than a pull up from a good old bar, and I always did Calisthenics when going to the gym instead of busing myself with weights.
Now that I am a grown man, have discovered that Calisthenics had been present in my life all the time, and armed with the knowledge of a lifetime practitioner and some new moves, the goal is to gain strength.
Calisthenics or any other exercise is not about how you look in front of a mirror. That much is bullshit, and neither how a body looks in a Instagram photo. All of those are touched up beyond recognition. The looks matter not, as Yoda would’ve said when talking of body weight exercises.
Feeling strong, that is at the base of the Calisthenics pyramid. Becoming strong, is what happens when a person develops a daily practice of Calisthenics. Not a full blown routine every day, but a time where some exercises are practiced and others introduced. Even if it’s for only 20 minutes a day. 
Just imagine a person who is able to get only 20 minutes a day of Calisthenics during a full year, and each time would do five burpees. Five. Only five lame burpees in in 20 minutes a day, every day. 
That person would’ve completed more than 1,800 burpees in that year along, in only twenty short minutes a day, and doing only five lame burpees.
How much healthier and stronger would you feel after completing 1,800 burpees? 
You will feel and look much better than doing none, you fat ass piece of shit.

Might as well build what we at Jailhouse Strong call back arms, or what pencil necks in lab coats call triceps. Although traditionally done on a dip bar, behind-bars prisoners have been known to do dips off a bed, or on two stacks of books. In your room, two chairs are best.  With one hand on each chair and your feet placed on the bed, you can get a full range of motion.  But, really, any stable object can be used as placement for your hands. Lower yourself until you reach a ninety-degree angle at your elbows, then return to full extension. Leaning forward with your upper body will provide a larger load, and greater workout, for the chest and front delts, while keeping a straight back shifts the focus of the workout to your back arms (or triceps). In traditional dips on a bar, your feet are suspended in the air. In a modified version, your feet may be placed on the ground or, for more of a challenge, they can be elevated on a chair or bench. The wide range of possibilities for performing dips makes them a perfect workout for the compressed space of the individual doing ten to twenty years, or the traveling salesman on the road for seven to ten days. An approachable workout for dips is to bang out a routine of the “Tens.” What’s that? You do ten dips.  Rest ten seconds.  Hit ten more reps, then rest ten seconds again.  Complete for ten sets.  At the end you will have done 100 dips. Too hard?  Do a routine of the “Fives.” Five dips, rest five seconds, and continue for five sets.  At the end you will have done twenty five dips. #Repost @jailhousestrong with @get_repost ・・・ The concept of breaking training down into discrete periods of focus is not a new concept and is not solely a practice of athletes. Siff and Verkhoshansky, in their 1996 book, Supertraining,noted that ancient civilizations, such as the Chinese, Greeks, and Romans, understood the need for proper physical preparation for warfare. They realized that you simply couldn’t give a soldier his weapon and start to teach fighting techniques. The first thing they needed was to be whipped into shape. As for athletic training, the ancient Greek Olympians spent time in preparatory training for up to 10 months during each year, even in non-Olympic years. Kotov (1917) advised that training should be divided into general, preparatory, and specific training stages. Several Russian texts were written after this, emphasizing such training in track and field, skiing, gymnastics, boxing, water polo, and swimming. One of the earliest examples of periodization reached the Western world in 1946 in England, when Dyson used the Eastern approaches to training and developed a five-phase system of training. It included (a) non-competitive periods, involving gymnasium activities and cross-country running, (b) pre-competitive periods, (c) initial competitive periods, (d) main competitive periods, and (e) post-competitive periods. Today, periodization is used by all organized athletic teams. This is due not only to athletes’ needs, but also to guidelines set by governing bodies. In the NCAA, for example, there are strict guidelines for pre-season and off-season training. Think about all the great powerlifters who focus on hypertrophy and work capacity in the off-season, then dial in the big three specifically as a meet approaches. By cyclically attacking these goals and changing training methods and modalities as objectives were sequentially accomplished, this was periodization in action. Just think about it logically. Would a bodybuilder train the same way for a show four weeks out as he would four months out? If strength is a serious goal, you must eliminate training partners that are lazy, negative, and not willing to work. Surround yourself with like-minded people with similar goals and attitudes, in turn you will feed off of each other and success will be a foregone conclusion. Don’t train with jabronis 2. Insufficient Sleep It’s very difficult to get stronger and ignite hypertrophy without adequate sleep. Sleep is when a large percentage of anabolic hormones, like growth hormone and testosterone, are released. Besides hormonal disruption, one study found after three days with only three hours of sleep per night, maximal bench press, deadlift, and leg press were down significantly. The bench press decreased by 20 pounds. Other findings in the literature caused by sleep deprivation include reduced energy, decreased time to exhaustion, increased injury rate, reduced sprinting speed, reduced accuracy in basketball, and slower reaction times. Since strength is the goal, strive for eight hours of sleep nightly, minimally seven. 3. Training at Gyms Without a Squat Rack In 2006, Albert Argibay, a bodybuilder and a state correction officer, was training at Planet Fitness in New York and literally had the police called on him by gym management for grunting. Interestingly, Dennis G. O’Connell, a professor of physical therapy at Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas, has piloted studies on the effects of grunting. O’Connell found that weight lifters produce between two and five percent greater force when they grunt. On a 500-pound squat, that is 10 to 25 pounds—no gym rule is worth giving up that! Furthermore, Planet Fitness has removed all squat racks. A Day Inside
I will be writing a true story here soon. I have decided to name it A Day Inside.

It was October 1, 2018 and I woke up with my mind prepared and bummed but I knew this was the day. I kissed my girl and took a shower and started to get ready for the big day. Once we were all set, I sneaked over and wrote a small note that I placed under the blankets on the bed that said, “I love you and know that I am thinking of you”.
 We drove down the street to where my girl dropped me off at the corner, I kissed her goodbye and I walked over to the metro in order to take the train, while I was in the tunnel waiting on the train, all I could think of was my girl, how sad she was but we both knew it had to be done and I only would be gone for awhile.
 Soon enough, I was standing in front of the Van Nuys Superior Courthouse, I was walking in and knew that I would not be walking out this time, I waited for my attorney to finally show up which was around 10:ooish that day. I went in front of the judge and my case was heard, I was sentenced to 180 days, (6 months) in the Los Angeles County Jail, a Felony charge of Grand Theft.
 The court officer escorted me and sat me on a chair, the sheriff deputy was kind enough to chat with me for a bit and I told him what I was sentenced for and today was my last day of freedom, he searched me and took my property and processed all of my belongings. I was sent to a large holding cell and waited for the Los Angeles County Jail bus to come pick us all up.
 The bus finally arrived and we were chained and handcuffed one by one, escorted to the bus and sat down and went for the ride, some of the guys were used to it and knew the ride like myself back in the olden days but you really never get used to it. We arrived at the Los Angeles County Jail and one by one, we were sent inside in a straight line to a holding cell where we were all lined up and were told to remove our shoes and socks, we were told to turn around and not face the deputies while they came around and searched us one by one. We were escorted to another cell while we waited to be called out to be processed like cows in a heard to be branded.
 Hours went by and finally my name was called, I went to the deputies and received a wrist band that would not come off unless you cut it off. It was a barcode with your full name and a number which only belongs to you; it was like your ID for jail purposes. We walked in a line to another cell where we waited for a bit, we were told that when your name was called, you shouted out the last three digits of the white band ID on your wrist, you would be scanned twice and given a clear plastic bag and sent to a room with everyone else, the deputies when they opened the doors and to tell you to take off everything, become completely naked and throw all of your belongings into that clear plastic bag and tie a knot on it. We would walk into another room that was a shower room; we would all wash up while we placed our clothing on a bench.
 We waited in that shower area for almost three hours until the door opened up and the deputy shouted out, the people who have a size shoe of 11, 12 or 13 come to the front of the line, the rest of us received a pair of shoes like crocs, we were told to walk a red line on which we received two bean and cheese burritos and two small cartons of orange juice. We had our left shoulders on a wall and were asked to remove our blue shirts while we walked into a small room and took an x-ray of our chest, once we were done we were told to take a seat in this open room of chairs, blue chairs and some benches while we all saw some other inmates dressed in like blankets and handcuffed to a chair with both hands, we were told these people were the crazy ones and not all their in the mind.
We all sat for hours, while a staff of deputies was at a large bull pen area, approximately 5 to 6 deputies were in this bull pen and next to them was another room that was made to be a small clinic.
At times, guy would walk to another open room, and jump on a call as I did as pay phones were placed on the walls and you needed a passcode in order to make calls, you would need to ask a deputy for a four digit pin in order to call out, mine was 5690 along with my ID that was given to me in order to place a call. While we were either sitting down, laying down on the ground or just walking around, at times the inmates that were crazy would snap at the deputies, other times they would shout out at each other and try to fight and sometimes, they would shit on themselves or pee on the floor while the deputies just looked unless they were fighting.
Finally, I hear my name called and I am done being processed, they announce out loud that I am getting a bed, after a day and a half of being processed and I am super tired and just want to sleep. We walk in a line up a long hallway, up an escalator and into a hallway with rooms on each side, they place me and several others into a room that is a two man cell with a toilet/sink combo. One of the beds has a mattress while the other does not and I take it and immediately fall asleep, it felt like I just fell asleep and all of a sudden a deputy walks up to our cell and ask me if I want to go to school or become a trustee, I say yes to the trustee position and he tells me to wait for a bit but to be ready.
A few minutes later he comes for me and tells me to go into another room with some other guys; we walk back down that hall way into a ward that is called 2600, it’s the old jail and we go into a day room, something like a laundry room but without the machines, that is called a day room, it is middle of the night since it is super dark and everyone in the cells are deep asleep. They give us all a change of clothes, like a light greenish color and we change, they send me to one of the tiers called Abel row, I was sent to Abel 11, took the top bunk and tried not to make that much noise and fell asleep.

Meditating with my Hailey. Animals are so in tune with our energy. Hailey is a pretty shy and calm girl, so she loves our mornings together in our meditation space at home. She even hops up on my lap to lay with me while I meditate or read, and trust me, she is NOT the type of cat to normally sit on your lap! Sure, it might make meditating a little less focused, but the happiness I get from it far outweighs the need to sit alone in quiet to meditate. I look forward to waking up every morning and starting my day with a smile, and you can too!
