This may be the first Orpheus Charming the Animals scene I’ve found with a #pangolin in attendance…
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Aelbert Cuyp (Dutch, 1620-1691)
Orpheus Charming the Animals, c.1640
Oil on canvas, 113 x 167cm (44 1/2 x 65 3/4in.)
On display at Museum of Fine Arts, Boston
“The ancient Roman poet Ovid recounts how Orpheus, a legendary Greek musician, pacified wild animals with his soothing music. Here Cuyp places Orpheus in a typical Dutch landscape, populated with native species such as bulls, goats, and cats. But Cuyp adds American, Asian, and African creatures, too, including jaguars, a camel, an elephant, and an ostrich. Cuyp probably saw many of these species in person, but he almost certainly studied pictures of them in prints and books as well. His menagerie reflects the explosion of scientific knowledge that came with overseas trade and colonial ventures. The picture is, at the same time, an illustration of a Classical story, a landscape, and an animal painting. But it also makes a political statement, drawing a parallel between Orpheus's power over the animals and the Dutch Republic's dominance of the globe.”

Still thinking about my National Animals AU:
Micronations would not have animal forms. It’s one of the things that marks them out as not being real nations. If a micronation ever achieved their dream of being recognised, they’d gain a beast form then. If you’re curious about Sealand in this scenario: Peter would want to be a lion like Arthur…but instead he’d end up as a seagull. D’oh! 😂
Overseas territories and small, separate parts of countries (the ones like Hong Kong and Macau that have their own nation-people) would have animal forms. Which beasts they have would depend on their circumstances, but a general rule of thumb would be they’d be the same as the nation in charge of them. Not always, but usually. If the ownership changed then their form might change with it. They have the least amount of control over what they’d become as something that’s not quite a colony but not quite part of the “main” nation either.
Now a few more beast form headcanons from around the world:
Australia: lion → red kangaroo
Pretty easy to come up with these. Just like his big bros over in NA, little Aussie was a lion cub in his early days as a British colony. The adult lion he grew into would resemble the kind in Africa that live in scrubland because I think that would be better for roaming around the outback. So he might not have had a mane? Anyway, unlike biggest bro Alfred, Australia’s break with Arthur wasn’t violent enough for a skin ripping. Australia went the Matthew route instead and changed gradually. Until one day he assumed his beast form and found himself standing on two legs as a big ol’ roo.
New Zealand: lion → ram
The lion route strikes again! Calm down Arthur, lol. Another colony cub who grew into an adult lion and then settled on a different form after gradual independence. That form has to be a sheep. I mean, just look at NZ’s canon design. Making him anything else would be weird.
Sweden: ??? → lion → Eurasian elk
Sweden was once known as “the lion of the North” with a fearsome reputation to match. They still keep the lion on their coat of arms, but I think Berwald has moved on from that stage of his life. Sweden is pretty peaceful these days. Berwald would have spent his conqueror years as an Arctic lion with a pale mane. Then at some point he would have changed into an elk, which is Sweden’s national animal. Not a hunter any more but still not to be messed with either. You don’t want to be on the wrong end of those antlers. Yeah, an elk works. Not sure what he would have started as way back in his viking days.
Finland: reindeer
He’s lapland, bro! Father Christmas lives in his house. What else is he going to be? Berwald would be happy too after his final form change. Now his elk self matches his wife Tino’s deer. Nordic ungulate solidarity. 👍
Seychelles: dolphin
I think only small, isolated island nations would get forms that were completely sea based. Otherwise not being able to come up on land would be too much of a pain. Nation-people like Seychelles would have more space to roam in the ocean than her dry land. So her place to unwind would be beneath the waves. Also fits the big fishing culture there.
Argentina: black bull → silver bull
Antonio’s son: the little black calf who eventually grew up to lock horns with his dad over independence. If Arthur and Alfred had a badass lion duel in the North, then Argentina and Antonio would have had a sick bull fight that shook the plata in the South. Argentina didn’t tear off his skin like Alfred did after he won, but his beast form did change its appearance in a more subtle way. His black hide and horns turned silver because how could the Argent-ine be anything else? If Hima ever gives us a canon Argentina, I really hope he’s a guy to go with this headcanon. I just want this epic bull v. bull clash so badly. 😆
Brazil: ??? → jaguar
I haven’t decided what Portugal would be in this AU yet but, whatever it is, Brazil started as a baby form of that. Then changed into a jaguar after independence. I have no deeper reasoning other than jaguars are awesome.

Backpacking Across SimNation presents
RALENA "Ral" ZIEGLER
Certified travel business professional and yogi, Ralena is here to keep our backpackers safe and guide them through the adventures of self-discoveries and new experiences! She won't hold your hand through the journey (unless you're a gal to her liking) but she will make the changes of you getting eaten by a jaguar a lot less likely!
PACK YOUR BAG NOW AND TAKE PART IN THE ADVENTURE! >>
🤿
Ral has always been energetic, all over the place kind of girl who doesn't hesitate to try new things. Especially spontaneous trips overseas or suddenly moving in with a girlfriend she has been dating for only a week won't make her doubt. Her dad taught her how to hike, fish and hunt when she young and she has followed those teachings all the way to her adulthood. Becoming a tour guide wasn't really the job she was looking for but still didn't pass the opportunity when she was offered one. And she's glad she didn't, since she fell in love with the work and hopes to pass on her father's teachings on to all kinds of strangers to make them class A survivors on any kind of obstacles - or at least in the wilderness.
┉┉┉┉┉┉┉┉┉┉┉┉
I wanted to have a tour guide figure for the backpacking challenge to act as a mentor who would either just hang on the background or get involved with the backpackers, whichever way the story takes them. And so I asked my husband to make me a sim for this role, and he created Ral! 💖 She won't also be counted as a participant so the maximum number won't be affected.

India-Gibraltar Finance Ties Strengthen: Opportunities for Growth - Acquarius
Tumblr media
Discover Gibraltar’s expanding financial ties with India, offering key opportunities and a gateway for Indian businesses into Europe and the UK.
Gibraltar’s financial services sector is critically important to the jurisdiction’s overall success with its contribution accounting for some 20% of annual GDP. It should come as no surprise that local firms look overseas for new opportunities as the sector could not have grown purely based on Gibraltar-sourced business.
‍Firms, including Acquarius, benefit from local connections that bring in overseas work. However, the sector must increasingly take the initiative by seeking new, sustainable business opportunities abroad. Acquarius’ peers include those focused on markets like Israel and Morocco, where they have made substantial progress. Most, however, are likely to prioritise the UK where part of the business sourced may involve UK-based individuals and companies, but by no means all of it. Intermediaries, especially in the City, attract clients globally, many of whom are directed to Gibraltar or (say this quietly) to competing jurisdictions such as the Crown Dependencies.
‍Wouldn’t it be ideal if there were a country to which Gibraltar could relate because of its history and where entrepreneurs could expand into the UK, Europe and beyond using Gibraltar-based company or trust structures?
‍Clearly, India meets these criteria at all levels. According to the United Nations, in April 2023 she became the world’s most populous country, overtaking China. At 1.45bn today, India’s population grows by close to 1% annually. That equates to around 14m extra people every year – or more than the entire population of Belgium!
‍Aside from enormous human resources, India’s non-aligned approach allows her to trade freely with almost every country worldwide. Today, Indian-owned businesses investing in Britain include Tata’s Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) and Hamley’s, owned by India’s largest retail group Reliance. And there are countless more examples.
What a prize then for Gibraltar-based firms. I have written in the past about the benefits of establishing holding or headquarters companies in Gibraltar that themselves own subsidiaries elsewhere, including the UK. Tie that in with an attractive residency scheme in Gibraltar (under either the “Category 2” or HEPSS regime) and one can see how attractive Gibraltar might be for India businessmen considering market entry into Europe, and elsewhere and one should not ignore Gibraltar’s well-deserved reputation as a safe environment in which to live.
‍Moreover, Gibraltar boasts some 600 residents of Indian Hindu heritage, predominantly Sindhi, many of whom are prominent public figures. The community includes several in senior positions across the financial services sector.
‍The building blocks are thus very much in place. This is particularly important at a time when business from the UK is somewhat more challenging given proposed changes to the non-UK domiciled regime, among other areas of concern.
‍Thus, it was most timely that the Indian High Commission in London recently hosted a seminar at their iconic Aldwych location as part of Gibraltar Finance’s hugely successful #GIBLDN24. The venue is magnificent.  But it was the content that impressed me. There is real momentum and a deep-seated desire to facilitate business between the two countries.
‍One of the guests at the event, Hilesh Chavda, Private Client partner at international law firm Spencer West LLP, was delighted to have attended the event. “The seminar was my first visit to the High Commission” he said enthusiastically, explaining that: “Indian clients are the fastest growing with huge potential”.
‍The event was well supported by the Gibraltar Government including the Chief Minister the Hon Fabian Picardo KC and the Minister for Justice, Trade and Industry the Hon Nigel Feetham KC. Minister Feetham commented “I was deeply impressed by India House event, and His Excellency, the High Commissioner, stood out not only for his vast knowledge but also for his warm hospitality and engaging demeanour. I am confident that we can build on this momentum to further strengthen and expand our trading relationship with India in the financial services and gaming sectors under my Ministerial responsibility.”
‍Aside from other advantages, the Gibraltar Authorisation Regime (GAR) – an agreement unique among Britain’s Overseas Territories – provides reciprocal market access for UK and Gibraltar financial services firms. Regulated in Gibraltar, electronic money institution Ribbon is a case in point.  Ashesh Jani, Co-founder & CEO, shares, "Our experience of setting up a licensed Electronic Money Institution in Gibraltar has been immensely rewarding. It has significantly reduced our time to market, enabling a faster launch. We encourage other Indian firms with global aspirations to #ThinkGibraltar, leveraging it as a gateway to access the UK market and capital. Stay tuned as we unveil GIB Connections, an exciting initiative to foster India-Gibraltar partnerships.”
‍A new world of business opportunities awaits, but we must put in significant effort to seize them. There are clear needs in India that Gibraltar firms can address with effective solutions. The joint initiative between the Indian High Commission and the Government of Gibraltar demonstrates strong top-level support. Let us build on this momentum and actively pursue business opportunities before others do.

Just one double-parked car was the traffic equivalent of axing the whole lane. Of the illegally parked cars, half had placards. Many of those belonged to diplomats: the arrival of the United Nations in New York, in 1950, had attracted a population of incorrigible parking scofflaws to Manhattan, concentrated around the Oscar Niemeyer skyscraper on the East River and the consulates and offices that dotted the city’s east side.
Diplomats could not be held accountable for parking tickets, though that did not stop agents like Ana Russi from ticketing their luxury sedans. Between March and October 1977, representatives of the Soviet Union in New York received more than 6,500 parking tickets. Israel racked up almost 5,000. Nigeria, Ghana, and Turkey were not far behind. Two diplomats from the West African nation of Guinea had, respectively, 526 and 525 unpaid parking tickets apiece.
A later study, of the period 1997 to 2002, found that the number of parking violations per diplomat was strongly correlated with measures of national corruption—and with less favorable popular views of the United States. Israel and Turkey had really cleaned up their act by that point, and—along with countries such as Burkina Faso, Colombia, Canada, Ireland, Japan, and the Netherlands—recorded no parking citations. The leaders this time around were Kuwait, Egypt, Chad, Sudan, and Bulgaria. Violations by diplomats from Muslim countries fell by 80 percent after the September 11 attacks, though they soon rebounded.
[…] So with Mayor Koch’s support, he told his tow trucks it was open season on diplomats’ DPL plates. Traffic on the east Midtown streets flowed again; the west-side tow pound, stuffed with Mercedes and Jaguars and BMWs, began to resemble the parking lot of a country club. The State Department liaison to the UN called city hall in a huff. “The British say they can’t live with your plan because of security needs. The Soviets are outraged. Our diplomats get all sorts of privileges overseas, you know, and already some countries are threatening retaliation.”
Flanked by a representative from Foggy Bottom, Schwartz was summoned to the General Assembly to answer for his aggressive towing policies—prompting a rare moment of international harmony. “The Israelis and the Arabs were getting along; Iran and Iraq, which were then at war, were offering each other coffee. All united in attacking me,” he recalled. “If someone were taking a tour of the UN at that moment, he might think I had the answer for world peace.” Such was the rapt attention in the room. Diplomacy prevailed. It was not until 2002 that, at the behest of the technocratic mayor Michael Bloomberg, the U.S. Senate passed the Clinton-Schumer amendment, which allowed the city to tow diplomats’ cars and instructed the State Department to deduct the unpaid fines from U.S. government aid.
Parking violations plummeted.

Getty Images It took until mid-October, but the first trade of the 2024 NFL regular season has reportedly occurred. Williams, Bears blast through Jaguars overseas, 35-16.
Tumblr media
By; BenJarmin Munguia
Date: October, 13, 2024
We are now in the Caleb Williams era.
The Chicago Bears flew to London and stomped on the Jaguars 35-16. Caleb Williams had an impressive win, going 23 of 29 for 226 yards and four touchdowns. Williams also ran the ball four times for 56 yards.
Williams threw two touchdowns to tight end Cole Kmet in the first half and two touchdowns to wide receiver Keenan Allen in the second half,
The Jaguars' drive went to the Bears' 12-yard line. Jacksonville ran 14 plays, which resulted in a 30-yard field goal, giving the Jaguars their only lead in the game, 3-0.
After that drive, the Chicago Bears took control for the rest of the game, but Jacksonville didn't have an answer for most of the first half.
In the second half, the Jaguars quarterback completed what could have been a 20-yard completion to tight end Evan Engram, but Bears linebacker T.J Edwards punched the ball out, and Bears cornerback Elijah Higgins recovered, which resulted in a Keenan Allen touchdown.
Bears tight end Cole Kmet had himself a game, hauling in 5 catches for 70 yards and 2 touchdowns. Kmet even played long snapper for the remainder of the game as their starting long snapper, Scott Daly, was ruled out with a knee injury in the first quarter. There wasn't even a change in the long snapper. Kmet held his own at long snapper.
Chicago scored 35 points today and 36 points last week vs. the Carolina Panthers. This is the first time the Bears have scored 35 points or more in back-to-back games since 2013.
The Bears came hungry, sacking Trevor Lawrence 3 times and forcing 3 turnovers
The Jaguars looked horrible as they entered 1-5 on the season. Quarterback Trveor Lawernce went for 23-of-35 for 234 yards and two touchdowns with an interception,
The Jaguars had 3 turnovers on the day; they came into the game with 5 on the season.
It's unsure about Doug Peterson's job security look, but it's not good after this 1-5 start.
If Peterson gets fired this week, it's best not to lose while playing over the season. The New York Jets fired head coach Robert Selah last week after losing to the Minnesota Vikings in London.
Chicago Bears will fly back to the country and head into their bye week at 4-2, while Jacksonville will sit in London over the week and think about the game they just played as they take on the New England Patriots in London at 1-5.

UK car production falls 7.6% in first half of 2024
New data has revealed a 7.6 per cent fall in UK car production in the first half of the year.
The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), which published the data, said the decline was “expected” as carmakers rebuild their lines to produce electric models. Factories produced 416,074 new cars between January and June, 34,094 fewer than the same period in 2023.
The fall in electric car production reflects the overall trend and stands at 7.6 per cent. 106,157 cars were produced for the UK market, up 17.7 per cent on last year, but for overseas buyers production fell 13.9 per cent to 309,917 units.
SMMT chief executive Mike Hawes commented:
“The UK auto industry is moving at pace to build the next generation of electric vehicles a transition that can be a growth engine for the entire British economy. The new Government’s commitments to gigafactories, a decarbonised energy supply and a faster planning system will help boost our competitiveness and sustain employment in a sector that delivers well-paid, skilled jobs nationwide.”
He also added:
“Amid fierce global competition, however, industry and Government must work quickly to deliver those commitments, creating an industrial strategy that enables the growth the economy craves.”
Mr. Hawes explained that the industry had started the year with “a degree of optimism” due to investments in manufacturing totalling £24million made last year.
He added that the transition from the production of petrol and diesel cars to electric models “has always been complex and volatile,” noting that the overall 7.6% decline was due to “significant model changes” by companies such as Mini, Nissan and Jaguar Land Rover.
The European Union remains the largest recipient of car exports, accounting for 55.4 per cent. The United States, China, Turkey and Australia made up the remaining top five export destinations, accounting for 29.4 per cent of all overseas orders.
Japan, Canada, South Korea, South Korea, the United Arab Emirates and Switzerland rounded out the top ten. According to the latest independent forecast, total production this year will be around 910,000 units, down 9.3 per cent from 2023.

The main chinese company that produces cars in america is volvo. It is not Swedish anymore. Chinese bought it years ago. Then the indian auto manufacturer in the united states is tata motor and they own Land Rover and Jaguar.
The point is, there's only two remaining american car companies, really..... And they only have a few brands of the forty two brands that are sold in america for automobiles.... So that means the majority of everybody who works in the auto. Industry works for foreign company..... The majority of auto workers do not work for an american company very few of the auto workers work for an american company, overwhelming majority, overwhelming majority work for foreign company......
So, america, you would say is very diverse..... Who knows how long Ford & General Motors will hold out.... 🤔
General Motors sells more cars overseas than America & the percentage is getting larger...
So Ford is the last American car company that does the majority of its sales in America. So Ford still sells 80% of its cars in America, so investing in Ford.is investing in America... Meaning if you want a pure play and you're doing asset allocation. Then the only car company you can pick that has its majority of sales in the United States. That is an American company is Ford....
So the president and presidents before not investing in the white pore in america, have really done a number on the white population. All this white trash..... It's pretty fucking disgusting 🫣 😤 😒 😑 😐 🤧 🫣

General Motors (GM) sold more vehicles outside the United States than in North America in 2023:
China
GM and its joint ventures sold 2.1 million vehicles in China in 2023, which accounts for about half of GM's total worldwide sales. This includes the Wuling Hongguang Mini, a joint venture economy car that has sold more than 1 million units since its release in 2020. However, some trends in China could be challenging for GM, such as increased domestic brand adoption and China's rapid shift to electric vehicles.
Korea
GM's Korean operations sold 51,415 units in December 2023, which was a 116% increase from the previous year.

See when you talk percentages, it doesn't work... Percentages are designed to ignore size. Percentages are designed, so you can measure things of different sizes against each other. But when you're talking actual numbers, then let's talk about actual numbers....
So poor whites in america make up one third of the total latin population in america, which is thirty three percent... 🙄 🤔 Poor whites in america make up over fifty percent of the black population in america 🇺🇸 😢 😕 😳 White, poor equal or are little more than the total Asian population in American... So we're talking about a sizable population that has had no economic investment into its community, no government programs and the federal, the state, the county or local targeting them to help lift them out of poverty...... There has been only programs that have discriminated against them from rising out of poverty.... So the government has created the system where people that are white can't get off the bottom.... So they've done what you would call reverse discrimination..... And so you throw in all the illegals coming in to the United States? And then you throw in making them citizens and then giving them all kinds of economic incentives over poor whites which get none... And I've been watching this growing up since the 70s. And going back into the 60s, the civil rights movements and everything else and it turned everything against poor whites....
So whereas the government gave all kinds of incentives and this is why we had the housing crash to minorities, and they were purchasing large quantities of real estate and governments constantly giving them incentives. Were poor whites had no incentives, and my family had to move into trailer parts... 😢 My auntie immerdl lived in arizona in a trailer park... My brother and his wife with his two kids lived in a trailer park.... For almost twenty years and the majority of my life and my younger brother's life, we haven't been able to purchase any property....

There was a disturbance at a
I called the university of chicago talking about graduate school... I asked them if they had any incentives for economically challenged poor whites... 😔 They said no, they offer no economic incentives to anyone who is poor white... Then I said, how about poor white and disabled? And they said no, we offer no economic incentives to poor whites who are disabled.... Then I went to my friend j. Ro... Who is korean who went to the university of chicago booth... 🤔 I said Jay. Did you get any economic assistance from The University of Chicago to go to graduate school? And he said yes, I got economic assistance to go to graduate school at the university of chicago.... Interesting how that worked out me. I couldn't get anything but him. He comes from a better off family and he does come from a more Economically, rich family and he gets incentives because he is a minority.... So it doesn't matter how poor you are. As a white person, you don't get any assistance... As I found out when I tried to apply 4 medicaid and welfare multiple times because my mom threatened to kick me out. I didn't want to, but she threatened to kick me out on the street if I didn't. So I applied twice and I got turned down twice... They also turn me down for social security disability. I didn't apply for it. They just did it for me at the mental health institution. I was first put in in Lake County. I didn't even know they applied for me. I got a leather saying they were contesting my application. And denying me eligibility for social security disability.... And then I watch my friend Pete. Talk about how the black family living across the street from him. Add multiple link cards, head nicer house. They were living in than his and had nicer car. And other things than he had... Mass of fraud by blacks on these welfare systems.... But if you're black or a minority, you're just automatically approved.... 🤷 🤔 😏 😉
Then somebody had the Sioux, the University of Michigan. Because they wouldn't give assistance to poor whites. They refused to at the University of Michigan same financial situation, but they took it and refused. Economic packages to go to the University of Michigan for poor whites and they gave that assistance to more minorities... This was a case with the pell grant system. Then I found out across the nation talking to people who work in the financial aid offices. Because I was part of a organization that had lots of financial aid officers. That were attending our conferences that they actively discriminate against poor white. And you say? How is that possible because the department of education financial aid officers permission to discriminate... So I tried to get my niece assistance at Bradley university and the black financial aid officer said too bad for them... And I said, and I wrote him and gave him the financials that it's up to your discretion, but they meet the exception role because of their unforeseen hardship that they should get assistance... He said it's not my fault. They bought that big house and had that big mortgage. And you know, have these other obligations... So let them sell it all two fucking bad 👎 😤 😒 🙄 That's what he said, but it's the same thing A university in naperville, I went to appeal for my nephew, eric for further assistance so he could stay in the university and they denied me... Yes, they had the discretion to give him even a Perkins. Favorable, but they didn't. That's a fixed interest rate at 5%. I think it was. 🤔 But they had the ability to give him Other assistance and they refused and eric had the drop out of school.... I did the same for my nephew. Jimmy for wynona university because of his legion on his brain... And again he was turned down.... Then I experience it myself as I went to school. I was turned down for things, and minorities were given things equal situation. I was discriminated against. They were given..... So I'm supposed to suffer for them. Fuck you!!!! They need to get off their f****** a** Get off the f****** subsidies and make it. On their fucking own.... That's one thing I appreciated about my ex. She didn't take any financial assistance. Her mother paid for everything and she paid for her sister and her brother got a scholarship and they took no government assistance in any way, shape or form... So we're talking about fair competition because right now it hasn't been end as you see, this percentage really hasn't changed of poor whites. You think it would have gone down, it hasn't gone down. It has been maintained constantly that means the government has failed. The white community, not lowering the percentage of poor whites.... 😢 😔 😞 😕 😐 😪 But they've been actively working at everybody else....

THE THREE GUIANAS, THE FORGOTTEN GEMS OF SOUTH AMERICA
Tumblr media
Strung side-by-side along South America’s northeastern Atlantic coast. The Three Guianas, from east to west, are Guyana, Suriname, and French Guiana. Only French Guiana remains an overseas territory of France.
Tumblr media
Guyana claimed independence from the British in 1975. Also, the same year, Suriname rid itself of Dutch rule.
A concise history of the Three Guianas
Back in 1498, on his third voyage for the Spanish. Columbus first laid eyes on the mangrove-strewn coastline of the Guianas and its warrior-like Carib Indian inhabitants. He didn’t particularly like what he saw.
The hungry gold and silver Spanish decided plundering the Guianas wasn’t worth the effort. However, they did make the occasional slave raid.
When the Dutch, French, and British began pushing south from the Caribbean. They were keen to stake out a piece of South America for themselves.
That only left the Guianas since Spain and Portugal had already claimed almost the entire continent.
The Dutch began to settle the land in 1615, by establishing trade in sugar, cocoa, tobacco, and other prized commodities from the tropics. Introduced diseases quickly wiped out the indigenous workers they’d initially hired. So the Dutch imported new sources of labor in the form of West African slaves.
After the Second Anglo-Dutch War, under the 1667 Treaty of Breda. The Dutch retained modern-day Suriname and ceded the area east of the Maroni River to the French.
The following 150 years were marked by power struggles that saw the sovereignty of the region shift between the colonists.
By 1800, Britain had established dominance in Suriname, although it remained under Dutch control.
At the end of the Napoleonic Wars. The Treaty of Paris reaffirmed Dutch sovereignty in Suriname, while Britain purchased the adjoining Dutch colonies, renaming them British Guyana.
Finally, in 1834, slavery was abolished throughout the British Empire. Once again, the colonists found themselves seriously short on labor.
Hence, this triggered the next wave of immigrants, this time from the Asian colonies and particularly India. Consequently, today, the Guianas are perhaps the most widespread mix of ethnic backgrounds in Latin America.
Today, Guyana, Suriname, and French Guiana showcase overt Asian and Sub-Continental influences. They naturally mixed in with European, Latin American, and indigenous culture.
Why visit the Three Guianas? You’ll never complain they’re “too touristy.”
The Guianas remain three of South America’s least-visited countries. That’s not because they’re not worth visiting (far from it). Tourism hasn’t been high on the agenda for these, until recently, agriculture-based economies.
In contrast, their big brother neighbor, Brazil, overshadows them. The three Guianas are home to precisely zero world-famous “bucket list” attractions. Thus, the Guianas remain obscure to just about everyone.
They’re full of incredible natural beauty, including one of the last pristine rainforests on earth.
A fact you may not know is that The Three Guianas form part of the 270 million-hectare Guiana Shield. Known as “the greenhouse of the world,” thus ensuring this globally important eco-region straddles the northern boundary of the Amazon Jungle.
Now plenty of Pristine forests covers around 80% of the Guiana Shield. Also, its dense vegetation and mountain-fed rivers are a refuge for iconic species like the jaguar, river otter, and giant anteater.
Tumblr media
Although the coasts of all three countries meet the warm northern Atlantic. If you’re hoping for postcard-perfect beaches, sadly, you won’t find them in the Guianas.
Instead of sandy beaches, you will encounter tangled mangroves dominating the coastline. In addition, beyond them, lie the Orinoco Delta Swamp and Guiana Freshwater Swamp Forests. Culminating, in rivers, mudding the seafront as they empty into the Atlantic.
Remember, delving deeper into the wilds of the Three Guianas isn’t going to be easy. In fact, only a few roads connect Georgetown, Paramaribo, and Cayenne to a handful of regional rural towns.
To hike this barely explored wilderness, with its sheer mountains, windswept savannah, and countless waterfalls. The help of an independent expert adventure motorcycle touring operator is essential.
Surprisingly, and slowly, ecotourism is making in-roads into the Guianas. While at the same time, their economies are swiftly transitioning to being oil and mining-based. In particular, Suriname’s recent gold boom looks to be setting the country on the path to widespread deforestation.
Culture of the Three Guianas
The mishmash of cultures that are glaringly evident in everyday life in the Guianas is nothing short of fascinating. Did you know that Guyana, South America’s only English-speaking country, is home to the only two Test Cricket Grounds on the continent?
In complete contrast, Guianan cuisine is a hodgepodge of influences garnered from the French, the Bushinengue descendants of the West African and Caribbean slaves. And all blended with indigenous ingredients.
You’ll also see Chinese, Vietnamese and Indian eateries alongside Creole restaurants and French patisseries in the capitals.
Tumblr media
What´s really awesome is the fact you will find common ingredients including fresh seafood, smoked fish, cassava, and a vast array of tropical fruits.
Furthermore, if you want local flavored spirits, head for the rum and locally produced firewater called tafia.
Destinations in the Three Guianas
Cayenne, French Guiana
Tumblr media
Cayenne, a port city of roughly 138,000 inhabitants, is the capital of French Guiana. It’s charming if run-down aesthetic in sharp contrast to its strong ties to the EU as well as French culture, law, and order.
However, by far the most surprising addition to the city is the French European Space Centre. Also known as the Guiana Spaceport since 1964. Furthermore, it’s strategically located close to the equator and where the French and European Space Agencies launch their satellites into orbit.
Paramaribo, Suriname
Tumblr media
Laidback, tolerant and diverse. The capital of Suriname, built on a shell-sand reef over the Suriname River. Barely five meters above the ocean at low tide.
The city’s historic center was granted UNESCO World Heritage status in 2002. Famous locally for its fusion of European and local elements, particularly its distinctive Dutch colonial architecture. Also, lovely wooden cathedrals and grand government buildings add to the city’s slightly bizarre aesthetic appeal.
Check out the 17th century Fort Zeelandia and the bustling Central Markets.
You will enjoy the crowded market with the morning’s seafood catch and food stalls serving cheap, freshly cooked Dutch-Indonesian favorites.
Georgetown, Guyana
Tumblr media
Guyana’s capital population of 200,000 dwell in Georgetown, with nearly all running at their own leisurely pace.
The closest city to the Caribbean, in its heyday, Georgetown was considered the “Garden City of the Caribbean.”
Georgetown still boasts a vibrant contemporary street life. By painting a curious contrast against a background of crumbling colonial mansions, overgrown parks, not-all-that-visited museums, and European churches.
Yet Georgetown is no sluggish backwater. The city is the headquarters of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM-Caribbean Community – CARICOM), established to further economic development in the Caribbean nations, and its restaurant and nightlife precinct showcases a surprisingly cosmopolitan sensibility.
Beyond Georgetown
Georgetown, situated at the Demerara’s mouth, originates some 346km inland in the central rainforests.
Georgetown, is surrounded by lush tropical scenery, including the incredible Kaieteur Falls. The world’s largest single-drop waterfall is approximately four times taller than Niagara Falls. Surprisingly it is one of the most powerful waterfalls on earth.
Tumblr media
The Iwokrama Forest spans 3,710skm in the very heart of the Guiana Shield. One of the four last pristine tropical forests in the world. Tropical lowland forest covers much of the reserve, protecting some of the most species-rich habitats on earth.
The Burro-Burro River winds its way through the center of the rainforest. At the same time, the 1,000m high Iwokrama Mountains form the geographical focal point of the park.
The Iwokrama Reserve is one of the only localities within the Shield to boast eco-tourism facilities. The Iwokrama River Lodge is a hub for sustainable tourism, research, and conservation. It offers guided hikes, suspension bridge walks, wildlife-spotting boat cruises, and treks to Turtle Mountain. You will marvel at the panoramic views of the jungle canopy and the mountain ranges beyond.
Getting to the Three Guianas
By air
Most international flights into the Guiana capitals arrive from the Caribbean or Brazil.
It maintains close ties to its French overseers, around a dozen flights per week from Paris to Cayenne.
Direct flights still connect Paramaribo and Amsterdam. You can fly straight to Georgetown from New York, Miami, Port of Spain, or Panama City.
Overland
Reaching the Guianas overland is way more fun, although not without its challenges. You’ll need to ride in on your own set of wheels as there are no real options for obtaining a bike in the Guianas.
Brazil has the only open border crossings with all three of the Guianas. The Venezuela-Guyana crossing has been closed for years).
Most overlanders enter the Guianas by crossing Oiapoque in Brazil to St Georges de L’Oyapock, 188km north of Cayenne.
The border towns are split in two by the Oyapock River. The crossing is done on motorized wooden boats. Some will comfortably accommodate a couple of big bikes.
Once inside the Guianas, the highways between the capital cities are generally good. There aren’t too many roads heading inland, and the ones that are, are usually unpaved and guaranteed rough.
Rural traffic is pretty much limited to the odd 4WD or truck slowly grinding its way through the dirt. These roads cut a winding sliver out of incredibly dense forest surroundings, making for a spectacular off-road adventure.
Ride the Three Guianas the Forgotten Gems of South America
Getting to Guianas by motorcycle is a logistical challenge and a guaranteed workout for your off-road riding skills. Not many people do it.

HIGHLIGHTS AND MAIN MEMORIES OF 2023 FOR ME
2023 had many memorable times for me, some great and some not so great but all together they are what made my year the year it was. How was 2023 for you? I recommend copying this format and making a post about 2023 for you.
JANUARY
Lost My Father I am actually struggling to put this devastating experience into words, however I feel like it needs to be acknowledged as it was such a major thing that happened this year. I will not disclose what happened as that is private information that I do not wish to share, however I will say that I love and miss my Father every single day and the pain a year later is still so raw. R.I.P. Dad <3
FEBRUARY
Fitness Photoshoot James, the photographer who I also worked with last year, called me back to do another photoshoot. The theme of this photoshoot was fitness which required a natural, dewy look. The poor model had so much olive oil on her body to create that "sweaty" look.

Tumblr media
Went To Singapore This was my first overseas trip since 2018, I was very excited to finally be leaving Australia again. I went with my Mum and my Boyfriend at the time Aaron. I already made a blog post about the trip earlier in the year, however to do a quick recap, my trip was amazing. Singapore is a very clean and beautiful country and so much fun!!!! the highlights of the trip for me were: - Gardens By The Bay - Seeing the amazing Cloud Forest and the floral fantasy and then returning at night to see the Garden Rhapsody show that takes place every night. - Mandai Wildlife Reserve - Two zoo's in one and easily the best zoos I have ever seen, the "Amazon River Cruise" ride in the River Safari is amazing, my favourite animals in both zoos were the Panda's. Jaguar, Western Gaboon Vipers, Horned Viper and Poison Dart Frogs. - Haji Lane - A fun, bright and vibrant little area that comes alive at night. It is also the location of the famous Sultan Mosque - Lau Pau Sat - The BEST!!! Meal I had in Singapore was at this famous hawker centre. I had chicken satay stick, haianaese chicken and rice and spicy tofu - Universal Studios - I don't feel I need to explain much here, had great fun at this amazing theme park, my favourite rides were Revenge Of The Mummy and the Jurassic Park Rapid Adventure.

Aaron And I Separated After five years together, Aaron and I both made the difficult decision to seperate. The split was totally amicable and there are absolutely no hard feelings between either of us, we just simply felt we had grown apart and it was time to move on. I wish Aaron all the best for his future and thank him for the good memories we made together over the time we were together.
JUNE
Bathurst My Cousin Cameron and his wife Anna, left to go to Ireland so before they did, myself and my family all met up and had a little farewell party for them at my Aunty's house in Bathurst. She lives in the South Coast so Mum and I decided to make a little weekend trip out of it and stopped in at Kiama on the way. Michele's party was amazing!!! the food was great, the music was great and we all had such fun. Her beautiful daughter Grace had an exchange student from Japan staying with her and her and I instantly bonded over Studio Ghibli and Japan in general, oh how I wish i could go back.

Maddy's Birthday I have been with Horizon Theatre since year 11 when I was sent by my school for work placement. The woman who runs the theatre, Maddy is the only Marionette Puppeteer in Australia!!! She is amazing, so amazing that she she and Horizon Theatre have won awards over in Romania and Russia, anyone who knows anything about puppetry and performing arts knows that this is HUGE!!! as puppetry and performing arts unlike in Australia is huge in these countries and throughout Eastern Europe. Maddy turned 70 this year and Shab, who is an Actress but also runs the theatre with Maddy organised a surprise party for her. She put on a performance called "Beauty" which I got to be a part of, and in the meantime people set up the party outside the theatre. Maddy got such a lovely surprise when she went outside at the end of the show.

Singaportal Mum and I missed Singapore so much that we jumped at the opportunity to experience it again, albeit in Sydney. Klook hosted an event which basically brought Singapore to Sydney, one of the supertree groves from Singapore was actually flown out for the event, and there were stalls selling hawker style food, a pop up Raffles bar and live music. This event really took us both back to Singapore.

Oz Comic Con I attended my first Oz Comic Con this year with my good friend Izzy. I was originally planning to go as Wednesday, however with a trip to Uluru booked in for November, I needed to save money so I instead went as Broken Heart Harley in Birds Of Prey. We both had a great time, met some lovely people (I ran into my friend from TAFE Destiny and her family) and spent more money than we should have (so much for me saving money).

Girls Weekend My good friend Izzy and I went to the Australian Museum to see the Ramses II exhibition and we decided to stay overnight in the city. The exhibition was amazing!!! this particular exhibition had never left Egypt until now. Izzy and I are both fascinated with ancient Egyptian history so this exhibition really ticked all the boxes for us. We stayed at the Pullman Hotel and that night we had dinner at Lotus in the Galleries. We spent the entire next day swimming in the hotel pool.

Bathurst Christmas Party Mum and I went up to Bathurst for our annual family Christmas party from my Dad's side of the family. We went up a day before the party and did our last minute Christmas shopping and chilled out by the hotel pool and I of course had an Annie's or two. For dinner we went to the Church Bar which does amazing wood fired pizzas. The family Christmas Party was the next day and it was great, it was so lovely to see all of my family and catch up, I also got some awesome presents, they know me so well, the two highlights were a replica skull of a West African Gaboon Viper. and an Emu Egg
