♒︎ This moon invites you to conclude ideals that lead you to have a certain attitude towards others or to seek a particular appearance in front of them. Everything related to how you identify yourself or how you lead your life should come into question. Restrictions in the area of money and material possessions can cause difficulties in communication or rationalization of your traumas, in sharing resources with others, or in how you approach your sexuality.

India-Gibraltar Finance Ties Strengthen: Opportunities for Growth - Acquarius
Tumblr media
Discover Gibraltar’s expanding financial ties with India, offering key opportunities and a gateway for Indian businesses into Europe and the UK.
Gibraltar’s financial services sector is critically important to the jurisdiction’s overall success with its contribution accounting for some 20% of annual GDP. It should come as no surprise that local firms look overseas for new opportunities as the sector could not have grown purely based on Gibraltar-sourced business.
‍Firms, including Acquarius, benefit from local connections that bring in overseas work. However, the sector must increasingly take the initiative by seeking new, sustainable business opportunities abroad. Acquarius’ peers include those focused on markets like Israel and Morocco, where they have made substantial progress. Most, however, are likely to prioritise the UK where part of the business sourced may involve UK-based individuals and companies, but by no means all of it. Intermediaries, especially in the City, attract clients globally, many of whom are directed to Gibraltar or (say this quietly) to competing jurisdictions such as the Crown Dependencies.
‍Wouldn’t it be ideal if there were a country to which Gibraltar could relate because of its history and where entrepreneurs could expand into the UK, Europe and beyond using Gibraltar-based company or trust structures?
‍Clearly, India meets these criteria at all levels. According to the United Nations, in April 2023 she became the world’s most populous country, overtaking China. At 1.45bn today, India’s population grows by close to 1% annually. That equates to around 14m extra people every year – or more than the entire population of Belgium!
‍Aside from enormous human resources, India’s non-aligned approach allows her to trade freely with almost every country worldwide. Today, Indian-owned businesses investing in Britain include Tata’s Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) and Hamley’s, owned by India’s largest retail group Reliance. And there are countless more examples.
What a prize then for Gibraltar-based firms. I have written in the past about the benefits of establishing holding or headquarters companies in Gibraltar that themselves own subsidiaries elsewhere, including the UK. Tie that in with an attractive residency scheme in Gibraltar (under either the “Category 2” or HEPSS regime) and one can see how attractive Gibraltar might be for India businessmen considering market entry into Europe, and elsewhere and one should not ignore Gibraltar’s well-deserved reputation as a safe environment in which to live.
‍Moreover, Gibraltar boasts some 600 residents of Indian Hindu heritage, predominantly Sindhi, many of whom are prominent public figures. The community includes several in senior positions across the financial services sector.
‍The building blocks are thus very much in place. This is particularly important at a time when business from the UK is somewhat more challenging given proposed changes to the non-UK domiciled regime, among other areas of concern.
‍Thus, it was most timely that the Indian High Commission in London recently hosted a seminar at their iconic Aldwych location as part of Gibraltar Finance’s hugely successful #GIBLDN24. The venue is magnificent.  But it was the content that impressed me. There is real momentum and a deep-seated desire to facilitate business between the two countries.
‍One of the guests at the event, Hilesh Chavda, Private Client partner at international law firm Spencer West LLP, was delighted to have attended the event. “The seminar was my first visit to the High Commission” he said enthusiastically, explaining that: “Indian clients are the fastest growing with huge potential”.
‍The event was well supported by the Gibraltar Government including the Chief Minister the Hon Fabian Picardo KC and the Minister for Justice, Trade and Industry the Hon Nigel Feetham KC. Minister Feetham commented “I was deeply impressed by India House event, and His Excellency, the High Commissioner, stood out not only for his vast knowledge but also for his warm hospitality and engaging demeanour. I am confident that we can build on this momentum to further strengthen and expand our trading relationship with India in the financial services and gaming sectors under my Ministerial responsibility.”
‍Aside from other advantages, the Gibraltar Authorisation Regime (GAR) – an agreement unique among Britain’s Overseas Territories – provides reciprocal market access for UK and Gibraltar financial services firms. Regulated in Gibraltar, electronic money institution Ribbon is a case in point.  Ashesh Jani, Co-founder & CEO, shares, "Our experience of setting up a licensed Electronic Money Institution in Gibraltar has been immensely rewarding. It has significantly reduced our time to market, enabling a faster launch. We encourage other Indian firms with global aspirations to #ThinkGibraltar, leveraging it as a gateway to access the UK market and capital. Stay tuned as we unveil GIB Connections, an exciting initiative to foster India-Gibraltar partnerships.”
‍A new world of business opportunities awaits, but we must put in significant effort to seize them. There are clear needs in India that Gibraltar firms can address with effective solutions. The joint initiative between the Indian High Commission and the Government of Gibraltar demonstrates strong top-level support. Let us build on this momentum and actively pursue business opportunities before others do.

@acquarius-saint has sent: Camus pats Aiolo's head "Calm down child."
Tumblr media
He takes a deep breath. "Tell me, Camus. Was I too naive to assume you guys would grow up to be good people?"
"No need to bring up Saga. And cut that out. I was once older, than all of you."

Full Moon in Aquarius Tarot Spread 🌕♒
🌕 For the Full Moon in Aquarius, I have prepared this Tarot reading that helps focus our energy on what we need to let go of and learn from the culmination of this cycle.
🌕 This Full Moon in Aquarius emphasizes the areas of our lives where we seek to stand out for our eccentricity or where our ideals differ from those of others.
♒️ Although Aquarius is considered the sign of the unusual or countercultural, its evolution consists precisely of overcoming detachment and the need to be unique, to find harmony with the aspirations that social, communal, everyday, and ordinary life have to offer.
🌸 Altruism, friendliness, humanism, and innovation can allow it to discipline its impersonal and irresponsible nature.

Acquarius Insights on New Labour Government Tax Changes
Explore how the new Labour government's tax policies will impact UK residents and non-doms. Acquarius provides expert financial insight to help you stay informed.
It became evident, during the first few days of the new administration, that the Prime Minister is a man in a hurry. Without seeming to take a breath, he appointed his new cabinet, embarked on a whirlwind tour of the Home Nations, and attended NATO’s 75th anniversary summit in the US. It is safe to assume then that other departmental plans will also be pursued rigorously by his team and, to use one of the new government’s frequently used phrases, “at pace”.
‍Significant changes are in store for private clients, particularly those who are, or are considering becoming, UK residents. These include the well-known non-domiciled individuals, or “non-doms”. The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rachel Reeves, will present Labour’s budget in September – its first in fifteen years. We can anticipate much of what is planned based on their election manifesto, and other assumptions about Labour continuing or extending the previous government’s already announced changes. The devil, as always, will be in the detail.
‍It is tempting to simply pack a bag and head for the beach until September.  After all, it is holiday season, and nothing much happens in summer, right? Everyone is away anyway so one might be forgiven for thinking about taking a break until the autumn.
‍At Acquarius, we adopt a markedly different attitude. For us, the summer of ’24 will be a busy one. While we cannot be sure what measures will be included, we have a pretty reasonable idea of the broad approach. Instead of ignoring the likely impact, why not get in touch with us so we can at least start reviewing your affairs or those of your clients? By doing so, we can be prepared when the changes are announced. By opting for a September Budget, it is possible that significant change will affect UK taxpayers, including non-doms, from the next tax year – that is in April 2025. Although the implementation date for some measures may slip, it is far better to be ready for whatever proposals emerge in the coming months.
‍We already know a fair amount about Labour’s plans aimed at non-doms. The concept of domicile used in tax planning will be replaced by a four-year residence-based plan that allows for free non-UK income and capital gains during that initial period only. From the fifth year, liability to such tax on a worldwide basis will apply. Moreover, inheritance tax on assets anywhere in the world, including those in non-UK structures, is in the plans and this may continue to apply for ten years after someone ceases to be UK resident. The use of offshore settlements (including excluded property trusts and foundations) is also likely to be severely curtailed. There may be some relief, such as the ability to import historic income and capital gains at a reduced rate of tax, but as yet, nothing is certain.
‍One might be forgiven for believing that there is nothing to be done, at least in the next few weeks and months. I take a different view and do not think that any planning we put in place will prove futile. Whilst we cannot predict that much too far ahead, there are actions we can take now under the current rules that will remain “future proof”.
‍Every case is unique as I constantly remind Acquarius’ clients and their advisers. Asset type and location, including how they are currently held, will all be important factors. So too is the notion that the current “owner” may not need, or wish, to retain a beneficial interest in these assets. Planning opportunities might then present themselves, even in these uncertain times. Careful structuring, which may include using an offshore life bond, could provide the optimum solution. Together with our hugely qualified UK taxation partners and in collaboration with a fully regulated global financial services group, we have developed a comprehensive, robust series of solutions for our clients, regardless of the challenges posed by their individual circumstances.
Of one thing I am certain; the time to act is now. Get in touch with me at any time for an initial, no obligation, discussion.

Acquarius Awarded “We Invest In People” Accreditation By Investors In People
Tumblr media
Managing Director Oliver Andlaw explains why the accreditation is important and what the award means for Acquarius staff and the business’ ambitious growth plans.
Investors in People
Investors in People (IIP) have awarded the “We invest in people” standard accreditation to Acquarius Trust Company Limited. In announcing the award, Managing Director Oliver Andlaw stated that it is an acknowledgement of the work done by management on processes and staff wellbeing combined with total buy-in by all staff in recent months.
IIP began as a UK government initiative more than thirty years ago when the Department of Employment developed a national standard of good practice for training and development. IIP offers accreditation to organisations that can demonstrate adherence to its rigorous standards. UK based, IIP’s international arm operates in more than 80 countries delivering services in 30 languages.
In their summary report to Acquarius, IIP highlighted key strengths and characteristics that led to the award. They point out that by building for the future,Acquarius have tackled challenges head on. They have implemented new processes and made changes necessary to create a “fantastic work environment” for its people allowing the firm to position itself for future growth. IIP acknowledges the implementation of a streamlined structure leading it to state in its summary that Acquarius “has a bright future ahead”.
Ambition
Acquarius management have previously made it clear that future growth plans are ambitious. They recognise that in order to grow, the business must develop their staff so that they are supportive of the firm’s plans. IIP accreditation corroborates independently that the approach is working and this is something of which all Acquarius staff should be rightly proud. Oliver added that the accreditation provides a clear, positive message to potential new staff considering whether to join the growing team.
Oliver went on to highlight some of Acquarius’ key strengths and characteristics summarised in IIP’s report that led to the firm’s accreditation. In particular, “The Acquarius Way” impressed IIP. This is an ongoing collaborative effort by management and staff leading to a common understanding of the culture the firm seeks to create. In IIP’s words “it’s clear there’s a real sense of belonging evolving”.
IIP also highlighted that the flow of information all the way through the organisation had improved markedly thanks to a determined effort to improve communication at all levels. Acquarius’ people feel more cohesive and collegiate, and appreciate the caring and compassionate approach created by the firm. In summary IIP stated that Acquarius’ focus on improving the business as a great place to work bodes well for its ambitious future growth plans.
Paul Devoy, CEO of Investors in People, said: “We’d like to congratulate Acquarius. Being accredited with “We invest in people” is a remarkable effort for any organisation, and places Acquarius in fine company with a host of organisations that understand the value of people.”
Looking forward
Oliver went on to sound a note of caution when he said that whilst the accreditation was a matter of great satisfaction to all staff, Acquarius would not be caught resting on its laurels.  As he explained, the initial three-year IIP accreditation depends on the firm maintaining its strengths whilst making improvements where IIP identifies opportunities so to do. Acquarius will need to develop its collaborative culture allowing it to adapt to changing circumstances in Gibraltar and beyond taking account of changing industry work practices.
Oliver concluded by saying that the firm will display proudly its IIP accreditation certificate in the office and promoting the logo on correspondence to clients, their advisers and business introducers. It is important as a constant reminder that Acquarius has achieved this standard and its significance to the business. He ended by thanking the staff once again for their input into the rigorous IIP process that had led to this hugely appreciated Christmas present for all concerned.
