Eurovision Fact #267:
Tumblr media
For the first 10 years of the Eurovision Song Contest, France placed in the top five. However, no one knows the real rankings of the first Eurovision, so every nation aside from the winner was given second place.
The subsequent rankings are as followed:
Paule Desjardins took home second place in 1957 for the song 'La Belle Amour.'
'Dors Mon Amour' by André Claveau won the 1958 contest.
Jean Philippe's 'Oui, Oui, Oui, Oui' won third place in 1959.
1960 saw another victory for France thanks to Jacqueline Boyer's 'Tom Pillibi.'
'Printemps (avril Carillonne)' by Jean-Paul Mauric took fourth place in 1961.
In 1962, France won the contest once more with 'Un Premier Amour' by Isabelle Aubret.
'Elle était Si Jolie' by Alain Barrière gave the nation its worst score yet in 1963 when it earned fifth place.
Rachel's 'Le Chant De Mallory' won fourth place in 1964.
Finally, in 1965, 'N'avoue Jamais' by Guy Mardel placed 3rd.

Anyone remember that one app called Eurovision Lookalike or something? It was around 2019 and you could upload a pic of you and get to see what eurovision singer you look like. It was a cool app ngl

Welcome to the Eurovision Song Bracket!
This will be a fairly large bracket, consisting of two "teams" of 68 songs for a total of 136 competitors!
The first team has been preselected, and will consist of all previous winners or popular vote winners if applicable.
This means that if your favorite song won, you do not need to submit them (a couple of exceptions apply, see list at the bottom/read more for details)
Submissions are closed!
Rules!
- Entries must have been a part of the main competition of Eurovision of any year (I might do a MGP mini bracket if the people want that)
- Once again, you do not need to submit winners, they are (mostly) automatically in. Again, see bottom for details and explanations.
- You may submit multiple songs, but please don't send the same song over and over.
- Propaganda is highly encouraged! There is a spot for it in the submission form, and adding it on to the poll itself or sending an ask is also allowed. You may send a DM, but I'll probably be slow to respond that way.
How it Works!
- There will be multiple brackets of 34 songs
- Each of the preselected winners will be randomly against one of the submitted songs. Pairings will be decided through number assignment and a random number generator.
- Vote for your favorite! I will include links to the songs in the poll so you can listen to both before voting. The winner will move onto the next round until we find the winner of that bracket.
- Once all brackets are complete, the winners of their individual brackets will go onto the finals to determine the (unofficial) Ultimate Eurovision Song Winner!
- There will be a preliminary around, as 1969 (hehe nice) had a four way tie, so we will need to determine which of those four will represent that year!
Tagging some other brackets to get the word out
@animalcrossingshowdown @ultimate-soup-showdown @least-sexy-man-competition @soulmatebracket @irlcats-bracket @little-cat-showdown @bestvegetablepoll @baby-brawl-bracket @died-but-not-dead-tournament @unusannusbracket
Click the read more for the list of songs that are automatically in the bracket!
(The colors are just to make it less of a wall of text and easier to read)
(Please let me know if a different color would work better)

Any ideas for non twins & Simon crossovers?
Tried to cover lots of different vibes but feeling like I missed some possibilities 😅 (also tried to avoid ones that have been on past crossover asks to keep the vibes fresh)

**Some sites list Tymofii's birthday as being in September, however his actual Ukrainian Wikipedia page shows it as February 6th, so that's what I'm going with
Corrections/additional information welcome!

It's Eurovision week!
Let's find the best loved winning songs from each decade, and then make a final poll to determine the supreme winner of eurovision.
There was a special poll yesterday to figure out which of the four winning songs from 1969 should be included in today's poll. Vivo Cantando by Salomé won with 36.7% (30 votes in the poll total).
The 70s poll is out today, too, so go ahead and vote there as well.
All polls will go on for 24 hours and will be tagged as 'my eurovision poll'.
Here goes:
If you like, you can listen to excerpts from the songs in the following video to help you decide. The 60s start at 1:27.

Eurovision Fact #444:
Tumblr media
More solo artist women have won the Eurovision Song Contest than any other type of act.
Solo act women have won 37 years out of the 67 years the contest has been running. That's about 55% of the total wins. (This is counting Conchita Wurst, and counting Loreen twice for both 2012 and 2023).
Additionally, all four winners of the 1969 contest were solo act women, and Loreen won twice.

The God of Endings by Jacqueline Holland
"I thought you might find some use for the world, and it for you."
While reading this book, I actually quite enjoyed what it had to offer. Collette is an interesting character, and I really liked spending time with her... while I was spending time with her. The problem with Jacqueline Holland's The God of Endings, though, is its structure. I don't necessarily mind books jumping between two timelines chapter-by-chapter, but here, it does very little more than take the reader out of the book. Aside from the final few chapters, which manage to bring everything together for an thematically resonant and satisfying ending, the events and themes in each alternating chapter don't complement their counterparts enough to warrant the constant back-and-forth. It might've been better to tell this story in "parts", keeping larger chunks of the book in each timeline, giving the reader more of a chance to consume this character as she is in each of these timelines; giving them a better chance to understand these worlds in which she's eternally stuck. But hey, maybe I'm wrong. Maybe this just wasn't the slump-proof book I needed these past ~10 days. There's almost certainly more I could say about some of the themes, here, but I'm really not compelled to do so, just as many nights I wasn't really compelled to dive back into this story. I think that probably sums it up, really. While this wasn't necessarily a bad book, it wasn't the fresh, compelling take on vampirism I was hoping it'd be.
5.5/10
